#saved tags broken

for context, prior to summer 2023 tumblr would save tags that i used (frequently or not) which made it easy for me to re-use them in other posts (ie. edit tags, character tags, tw tags, ship tags, etc). i found them to be a fundamental aspect of tumblr, to the point that people would often make games of it by providing a random list of words and challenging people to share the first saved tag that came up when they typed that word. you could not actively choose to save a tag, rather, tumblr would automatically save it once it was used.

as of summer 2023, saved tags as a function no longer works for me. no matter how often i use a tag, it will not save and is not suggested to me when i go to re-type it in future posts. the suggested tags that now show up for me are generic popular tags across the site. personally, it does negatively impact my use of the site.

i have been exchanging emails with staff since august 2023 about this issue and am hoping to collect data regarding other users experience, if saved tags are broken or functional for them, and how integral to your use of tumblr is this feature.

i also encourage you to send me an ask if you have any other added context you want to share when i reach back out to tumblr staff. please feel free to reblog this poll so it can reach a wider audience.

Hi, I honestly don’t mind it too much if people share my gifs around, but if you’re doing it to farm likes on twt, upvotes on Reddit, or saves on Pinterest, the bare minimum you can do is to link/credit the gifs back to the blog.

I know a few people that have told me that my gifs are so distinguishable that they immediately know I made them, but it’s still mildly annoying to see them being posted as something to farm engagement without me knowing. These gifs take time and effort to do. The least you can do, if you want to farm engagement out of the gifs I make, is to link it back to this blog.

And honestly, serious gifmaking takes time. People say I’m “fast” but these still take an hour, hours, or sometimes days to do. It’s not just putting stuff into an app and automaking the gifs I make. There’s a reason why people say they’re super “high-quality”. It’s because I still make them via Photoshop, sharpen, edit, and color them etc etc.

I’m not here trying to make any money or asking for money with making gifs. I’m very privileged to say that I don’t need to. But I make these things out of own free time for fun, out of the love for the show and its characters— and that’s free time that I could spend doing something else.

Ever since the new year started, I’ve gotten pretty burnt out making stuff everyday (except for CaitVi and making the occasional requests from the Discord server that I love very much). I have no idea if I can still keep up with making daily gifs at this point since I’m also much busier now with irl things.

But if you wanna see more gifs being made and support me with this hobby, please do reblog, like, share with credit, or link back the gifs I make. That’s really it!

And no, spamming likes or spamming reblogs isn’t annoying! In fact, I enjoy them so much! Tumblr thrives on reblogs as well! Fandom is all about having fun and interacting with people who enjoy the same interests as you, so please don’t hesitate to reblog or like the posts!

If you’re wondering why there’s less and less of gifmakers out there, this is also one of the major reasons why people stop making things. A lot of gifmakers and especially graphic/edit makers feel like the effort they exert for the things they make is simply not worth it.

And if you have a problem with me or with my gifs, then make them yourself.

You can find so many tutorials here too! There’s so many talented people on Tumblr that have posted their gif-making tutorials that I personally also learned from. They’re all amazing! Turn your love for the media into something that we all can enjoy together!

The wine bottle and symbolism

this is personally my take on the symbolism of the wine bottle/bottle opener as based on a post by galaxitic

The wine as a symbol for obsession for a loss of control. For how Vincent feels about his fixation with Rody. Of even in a way a symbol for Rody himself.

The wine opener being Vince's semblance of control over that obsession. That he believes he has control on his feelings about Rody. But when he goes to open that bottle its not in a semblance of control but that of panic, that of impulse but he still tells himself that it's something, not realizing that with a sip of the wine he's consumed back. His rational is consumed. Just like how this whole time Rody has made him drunk with impulse.

How the wine is admittedly what does him in.

Vince breaks the bottle, breaks 'Rody' through a lack of control. He uses the bottle opener to try and open the real thing, drunk and searching for more, willing to truly give into his impulses and be intoxicated.

Vince has for the most part up until this point been bottling up his feelings, playing the part of mild mannered and in control (though his control isn't perfect. The rat, the watching through the peep hole-)

Rody taking that broken bottle in hand, takes said obsession and kills Vincent with it. Because a broken bottle is going to hurt you. Because Rody is so broken right now, shattered, reeling from the revelation that Manon has been killed. The love bleeding from his body and a hot demand for revenge coming to him that results in the burning of Vince.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but a few things I've noticed regarding the broken saved tags: 1) I have *some* of my saved tags, but probably less than half at most. the ones I do have are all pretty common, but not all of my common tags are there. 2) if the person I'm reblogging from didn't have any tags, then as soon as I click into the tag area before I start typing, I'm suggested my 10 most used tags, *even though they're not saved/suggested at any other time*. hope that helps!

thanks so much! yeah, i'm realizing as my poll has gotten reblogged that i probably should have defined my terms a little better. i've seen people bring up prev tags, as in, when they go to reblog a post and the previous person's tags are suggested to them, and then i've also seen people make mention of the top 10 tags that you brought up. these tags will only appear in that drop down and will not be suggested to click on even if you start typing them.

when i refer to saved tags in my poll, i am explicitly talking about the ones i think you're referring to in your first point. these are the tags where as soon as you start typing, tags will be suggested to you based on what you're typing in. like, if i wanted to tag my post with my generic 'kat liveblogs her life' tag, i could start typing k-a- and tumblr would auto suggest the saved tag. even though i've been using that tag for over a decade, it's just no longer populating for me.

i don't have any of those anymore. some of them hung around for a while, but the more time passed, the more that went away until we reached this point where, even though i've continued to use those tags, they are no longer saved or recommended to me.

it's fun seeing other people's interactions and uses and understandings of saved tags! and i appreciate all the people who've reached out to share their thoughts 🥰 more information is always better

a lot of post-coup fan content seems to revolve around chris's relationship to robert and/or trevor which makes sense but i'm chrissandra-pilled so i can't stop thinking about that particular betrayal, especially with my headcanons for them.......chris has only recently started hesitantly letting her back in, he thinks that for sure she will back him up here, only for his heart to sink when he learns she was on board with this too.........she knows what robert's like, just as much as he does, so it hurts that she'd willingly go along with him, that she'd choose him over chris, especially knowing how much directing means to him..........

when he asks she tries to brush it off with well, we just need a change, that's all, i thought maybe we could give him a shot but the damage is done, she's just fed into his fears that she's never actually respected or liked him and this whole time she's been thinking of him of, at best, someone to laugh at behind his back, that what they're doing here at cornley isn't real, that it's just a stepping stone in her journey to stardom........sandra doesn't mean all that, of course, she's just frustrated with how badly their plays go like the rest of them, but with this one gesture she's awakened chris's trust and abandonment issues that led to the bitterness and resentment that nearly caused him to leave them the first time around, except this time he's internalized it into a quiet self hatred and a begrudging acceptance that no one at cornley actually likes him, and she's horrified by the thought that she helped contribute to that......
