Ok hear me out.

In my experience, people usually only know a perfume or a cologne by name for 2 reasons. 1) they wear it, or 2) someone they love wears it.

Now. Santal 33.

Considering it’s a cologne and not a perfume, there’s only 4 men close enough to Henry that he’d know their exact cologne. Percy, Phillip, Shaan or his dad.

So, allow me to bring out my headcannon.

Santal 33 was Arthur’s cologne. It’s a newer cologne, yeah. 2011 debut, coming as a replacement to 2006’s Santal 26. So I get that. But sometimes your favorite cologne or perfume gets discontinued or reformulated to hell and you need to find a new one. Maybe that’s how Arthur stumbled onto it in 2011, and for the memory building years of 11 to 17, that’s what he smelt like.

So in Rio/Melbourne, when Alex is very close to a young, still freshly grieving Henry, the scent of his father is just too raw, too overpowering, too painful.

and that’s why he reacts how he does. But promptly forgets it, also.

And when when Henry stumbles into Alex in that closet, stressed, truthfully a bit scared too, suddenly he smells home. He smells safe and home and comfort and love and realizes it’s Alex he smells but it’s also dad. It’s dads cologne. It’s “Santal 33”.

And, it’s doesn’t take long for Alex to stop just smelling like home and safety but for Alex to become his home and safety. And he laments to Percy, that it’s weird, that he’s a freak that his fathers cologne does it for him.

And Percy asks, does Alex’s cologne arose you? And Henry stops in his tracks.

No, actually. The smell of Alex under it? That’s sexy sure but not as much as it’s comforting. Alex smells uniquely like alex. His own natural scent and his fucking cinnamon everything- coffee, gum. His detergent, his dryer sheets. He smells like alex and it’s not that the smell does it for him, smelling alex just smells safe. Alex’s scent just makes him feel calm. And the cologne? It’s part of it. Part because it smells like his dad, part because it smells like alex. Equal parts honestly. Henry isn’t aroused by Alex’s scent, he’s calmed by it. He feels loved when wrapped up in it. He wears Alex’s clothes and smells Alex all over him and he feels wrapped in a blanket of love.

Anyone with two eyes that can see, could see, and feel the tension between you two. Everyone has seen the way she looks at you when she knows you're lost in your thoughts, not giving care to your surroundings. She stared, and she didn't even realise it until someone confronted her and told her that it's rude to stare.

One of the people who told her off was her friend Addison.

(Flashback)

A: You know she's my ex.

A/M: Sorry. I can only imagine being left behind over and over.

A: I'm the one who left her.

A/M: Why? She seems great.

Amelia walks out, tired of her friend's endless teasing. Addison's smirk that she was holding back began to show.

(End of flashback)

Addison took a mission upon herself to make Amelia jealous and make her realise her mistake. But an innocent flirtation with you led to something, unto another, and you ended up sleeping together.

You and Addison had a conversation about it and come up with an agreement that it's just a one (many ones) time thing, and that it should never happen again, but they would stay friends.

Every time Addison sees Amelia, she feels guilty for what she had let happen.

You were all at a common friend's house celebrating someone's birthday. Addie pulled Ames out of the crowd to confess.

A/M: I need to tell you something. Please, don't be mad at me, but it's totally understandable if you do.

A: Addison, what is it? Just tell me.

A/M: I slept with Y/N.

Amelia was shook to the core, but she tried to mask it with a smile and a very awkward chuckle.

A: I- uh, I'm with Kai now-- It's none of my business who she chooses to sleep with. And, you- didn't need to tell me.

A/M: So, are you mad?

Amelia walks away. After a few steps, she halted and turned to look at Addison "have a good day, Addison," then she continued to walk away from where her friend stood.

Addison was left with her thoughts. She sigh loudly 'she didn't say she was not mad, but she didn't also say she was not, not mad' she thinks to herself but eventually shrug it off and went on with her life.

Amelia was now sitting in a bathroom stall. Her mind wanders to what Addison had confessed. She wasn't mad, but she was rather hurt by her friend's revelation. A tear escape from her eye so she lift her head to look up, and not let any tear escape from her again, it was getting harder for her to hold those tears but before she broke out into a sob, she smelled a familiar scent, her sadness turned to panic.

You went to the restroom to wash your hands, check yourself out in the mirror, and then fix or flatten your clothes. Someone had followed you. "Hey! There you are-- you disappeared from me back there. " Teddy places a hand on your back, and gently caress it, trying to comfort you. "I just need a minute to recharge, you know how I get on parties," you told her, but you really just wanted to go home, to sleep, or just lie in your bed.

Amelia waited for the familiar voices to go out so she could go out of the stall.

Kai would sometimes catch Amelia stealing glances of you.

They would notice her smiling every time she sees you smiling. They notice how she would quickly turn to look away when your line of sight turns to her direction.

One night, Amelia said your name in her sleep while she coddled with Kai, and them watching her sleep, it broke them a little.

Later in the morning, Kai confronted Amelia.

K: You were saying Y/N's name in your sleep last night

A: Really? --I did?

K: Yes

A: I don't know, I don't remember

K: Was it a sex dream?

A: What?! I told you, I don't know and I don't remember. Now, let's get coffee

Amelia stood on the corner of the bed, and Kai suddenly grabbed her, making her fall back to the bed. As Kai said "wait" Amelia is shocked. "Sorry. I didn't mean to--" Kai apologises and tried to explain themselves, but Amelia cut her off, "what is it?!" Her voice a little bit laced with anger and disappointment... "Are you still in love with her? With Y/N?" Kai finally asks the question that has been looming around everybody else's mind.

Amelia just remained quiet while she got off of the bed, but she suddenly blurted out, "Stop with these nonsense. Let us go and get coffee. Don't ruin such a beautiful day. " Kai doesn't know what validation they need, but that is enough with them.

They felt like this conversation had happened before. It did, somehow, word for word, but they didn't remember the first time, this time though, they surely won't forget.

You were aboard the elevator. When the door was about to close, someone shouted for you to "Wait. Hold it. " it was a familiar voice, so you followed the instruction. When the owner of the voice came, you smiled at her, and she smiled at you.

A: Hi. Thanks for waiting.

Y/N: Hi, as well. It was nothing, I'd do it for anyone

Amelia doesn't know what she's thinking, but you saying you'd do that for anyone kinda hurt her. She thought to herself that she became just anyone to you.

People started filing up in the elevator and and you were both pushed into the back corner. Her back rubbing in front of you, you both cleared your throats by the sudden connection when the elevator halted.

You are so close together she can clearly smell the scent she's been missing without knowing, even if you're in a small space with a lot of people, your scent triumph over other scents and she finally figure out what that distinct smell of your perfume. "Sandalwood," she blurted out, and everyone in the elevator turned their head to look at her. "What?" You ask her, "sandalwood. I figured it out, the scent I really like from you, it's sandalwood, right?" You were confused for a second, but then you figure out what she's talking about. "Ah, yes-- right," you chuckled awkwardly.

You didn't avoid her. She didn't avoid you. It's like nothing ever happened, but something did, and it still hurts you.

Amelia is still feeling feelings for you.

Everyone knows she's still in love with you, except you, and she's about to admit it to herself.

cannabis santal is back on fresh’s site too! been wearing it for eight years so it being temporarily discontinued was crushing and i never found a perfect replacement. what’s your dupe for it??

YES delighted to see you can get it as normal through the site! the dupe i have is one made by nantucket perfume company; they make high quality dupes of pretty much any fragrance you can think of, especially designer discontinued scents, so during the period when cannabis santal was temporarily discontinued i took a chance and bought their "ressemble" and it absolutely still hits

Alex's scent- Le Labo Santal 33

I love this fragrance so much! The description may make it seem wild and masculine, but it's actually a very mature and composed unisex scent. Santal 33 opens with a relatively strong leather note, along with the woodiness of cedar. Sandalwood stays in the background to provide a sense of steadiness. To me papyrus is really the star support here- it tones down the "cowboy" elements while adding sophistication.

I had imagined Alex's fragrance to be more on the suave and smug side, but Santal 33 really works well for the politician side of Alex- that's probably why Henry smells it on Alex when they get pushed into the janitor closet. This is also an incredibly calming scent so it would be a great choice for any time Alex might be bothered by anxiety. However, IMHO, Alex would wear something more playful when he's out partying😆

Santal 33 shares similarities with Maison Crivelli Papyrus Moleculaire, which I also adore💖

Finally found a scent thats almost exactly the same as santal 33 and the edp is half as cheap but also almost exactly half as long lasting... I'm going to blow something up
