Embers from the fire catch on the wind in bright flurries, drifting up into the yawning dark like fireflies. We are here to talk about witchcraft, about spirits, about the land. We are going to talk about the cycles of nature and what they mean. We'll talk about our dreams and visions. We'll nourish our spirits with wisdom from the old lore. Beyond the crackling fire's glow, the shadows lingering between the trees could almost be our ancestors. . . .

the following is an idea i had for @bylerween2023 which i have no plans of actually writing so please, feel free to take this as inspiration for your own work for the event ^-^

au where, while pursuing her witchcraft studies, el accidentally stumbles across an ancient book of incantations and decides to try one of them out: a summoning for what is described as a "protector". a "guardian angel" of sorts, which is precisely what the byers have needed for a long time.

so she performs the spell and lo and behold, a mystical being of ethereal beauty who's so gallantly asking for her command.

exactly what el wanted.

except,,, well. the being in question is no angel, but a demon instead. one that is incredibly confused about el's evident obliviousness about his true nature. one that decides not to steal el's soul for he finds her joyful innocence charming and refreshing. one that is immediately clocked as a demon by el's twin brother, will, a powerful witch who swears he will banish mike back to his fiery realm as soon as he finds out how.

(one that might've immediately had his heart stolen by will who mike, as a demon, feels the mischievous need to taint and corrupt and maybe possibly seduce into being his boyfriend.)

{The Shop at the Corner's End 📚 | read on ao3, ~12k, modern, wicca, witchcraft, occult bookstores, enemies to lovers (sort of)}

Drawn towards a local occult shop that lies on her route to school, Morgana Pendragon takes it upon herself one Saturday afternoon in September to visit the store, hoping to purchase with her meager allowance a book or two on witchcraft, a practice she has been secretly reading up on online but has no hands-on experience with due to her father's no "nonsense" stance on all things supernatural. Entering the shop, she finds it to be as magical and sublime as her expectations, but what she doesn't expect is the confrontation she is about to have with one of its employees, a young man by the name of Mordred, who may just possess the secret to helping her realize her dreams of forging her own path and become more certain of herself in the process.

Or, based on the prompt: Modern AU. Mordred works in an esoteric Wicca bookshop. Curious, Morgana visits the shop secretly because her conservative and stern father doesn't like her "unscientific, silly" hobbies. Romance, initial dislike for each other, find themselves drawn together.

the following is an idea i had for @bylerween2023 which i have no plans of actually writing so please, feel free to take this as inspiration for your own work for the event ^-^

s5 au where mike and will have been trapped in the upside down by themselves for a little bit, escaping countless democreatures and trying their hardest to avoid detection as they seek for a safe place to rest for a bit.

they are tired. from running and fighting and from the frequent scares, of course, but more than anything they are utterly exhausted from the rising tension between them. ever since they got there they've been in a constant state of stress, and just a few minutes earlier they had their fourth argument in a roll, the fact that will just won't answer mike's questions slowly taking a toll on both their mental states.

for now, however, they find themselves calm and, as they quietly enter the empty wheeler residence, safe.

they can't be too careful, however, so they take a few minutes to check the house for hidden foes, the fact that they're desperately avoiding another confrontation something they'd rather not acknowledge.

so they check the basement. then the ground floor. then all the bedrooms and even the attic. and their plan is to chill out in the basement, but they're just too tired to walk down the stairs so they decide to rest in mike's bedroom for a few minutes first. and mike's on the brink of passing out, but seeing his old toys and knick-knacks has him excited and so, he starts talking about the past: about their old campaigns and the games they used to play, about school anecdotes and tales of simpler times.

so will chirps in. they smile and laugh a little. for a little bit, it seems the tension has defused and they can go back to their usual dynamic,,,

but it doesn't last. because as they joke around and will teases him for the mess, the tired will byers reaches for mike's han solo vest that he wore just a week before the upside down breached into their world. and that in itself would be innocuous, were it not for the fact that upon picking the garment, a piece of paper falls from the pocket and lands wide open on the floor for will to stare in confusion and, in mike's case, mortification.

because there, on the paper, with his distinctive stick-figure art style, twelve-year-old mike had drawn himself as han solo, and will as luke skywalker, kissing very clearly on the lips.
