Palestine is a geographically significant region with great historical and religious importance, located in the heart of the Middle East.
It stretches along the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, bordered by Lebanon and Syria to the north, Jordan to the east, and Egypt to the south. Among its most notable cities is Jerusalem, a city sacred to Muslims, Christians, and Jews, housing landmarks such as Al-Aqsa Mosque, Dome of the Rock, and Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Palestine boasts a rich history spanning thousands of years, having witnessed the rise of numerous civilizations like the Canaanites and Phoenicians. In modern times, it endured British occupation in the early 20th century, followed by Israeli occupation since 1948, leading to the displacement of millions of Palestinians and the intensification of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Despite ongoing challenges, Palestine maintains its cultural and historical identity 🌍. It is renowned for its natural diversity, including plains, mountains, and valleys 🌿⛰️. Most importantly, its resilient people continue to strive for freedom and justice ✊🇵🇸.
Our Story: A Family's Journey Through War
My name is Mounir, and I am part of a family of seven.
We used to live a simple life in Gaza, before the war changed everything. My father, Raed (47), my mother, Amani (39), my older sisters, Rasha (22), who is married, and Rana (21), who is also married, my brother Mohamed (16), and my little sister Sham (4), we all dreamed of a safe and stable life.
When the war began, we were forced to leave our home due to heavy shelling nearby. We took shelter in the shop that was our only source of income— a sanitary supplies shop where my father, brother, and I worked. We could only stay one night before leaflets were dropped from airplanes ordering a full evacuation of the area.
We had no choice but to move to Al-Shifa Medical Complex, where we lived in a tent for a week. Then, another evacuation order came, and we were told to head south of Gaza.
With no relatives to take us in, we ended up in an unfinished school building in the central area. The 90 days we spent there were the hardest of our lives— no water, no food, and nothing fit for human life. We had to walk more than 1.5 kilometers just to buy a small amount of food to keep us alive. After this long ordeal, another evacuation order came, but before we could leave, the school was bombed. It was terrifying— we narrowly escaped death, leaving everything behind.
We fled to Rafah, a place that seemed safer at first, but there too, we found no shelter. We had to live in a tent, in the freezing winter cold. We had no way to keep warm, and we nearly froze to death.
My mother, who suffers from chronic asthma, was in a dire situation because we couldn’t find her medications. She ran out of the medicine that helps her breathe, and she started having painful attacks. The smoke from the fire we used for cooking and the terrible smell from the lack of sanitation in the school made her condition worse.
My little sister Sham is also suffering from skin rashes due to the unsanitary conditions, and she has diarrhea and vomiting because the drinking water is contaminated. We are living in inhumane conditions, and we don’t even have the clothes we need to survive the coming winter.
My brother Mohamed and I carry a heavy burden— we fetch water from faraway places, and we search for food to ease our hunger. My married sisters and their small children are also in desperate need of baby formula, clothes, and diapers. Even the food that reaches us in the school from charity kitchens is barely edible due to poor cooking.
This is our life… fear, hunger, cold, and bombing.
We live in constant terror and uncertainty.
We desperately need your help and support— any donation can help save our lives and ease our suffering.

Under Pressure | Eric x You vs. The Apocalypse | Series Masterlist
Chapter Twelve: This Could Be Our Only Chance Summary: You and Eric make a break for it. Very quietly. Words: 2.4k
You wake in the same position you fell asleep in; the big spoon to Eric's little one. Your is arm still slung across his middle. His finger is tracing some imaginary shape on the back of your hand. He's awake.
"We need to talk," you sigh, rolling onto your back to stretch.
"I'm sorry," he whispers. You turn your head to him in the dark.
"Why?"
"For freaking out," he whimpers. "I'm sorry. I couldn't help it."
"Baby, there were literally monsters in the street yesterday," you whisper, rolling back over and embracing him. "You are fully entitled to monster-related freak-outs."
"If I'd made a sound, I could have killed us both."
"But you didn't," you remind him. "We got through it, together. We're okay."
Eric lets out a shuddering breath, and you give him a squeeze before returning to your back and trying another stretch. Ow.
"But we do need to talk about what comes next," you say quickly, wanting to get this out there before his brain can conjure up another reason to feel bad. "I turned on the radio again last night. There are survivors. On islands, off the coast. They're sending boats back here tomorrow, they put out a list of places for survivors to gather. One of the piers is just a few blocks away. We could make it."
"It's not safe," he whimpers, turning to face you.
"Nothing is safe anymore," you whisper, reaching for his hand. "But this makes sense. The monsters wouldn't be able to get to an island, because they can't swim. They said that when the helicopters were overhead; seek shelter on water, the fuckers can't swim."
Eric lets out a shaky breath. You haven't won him over yet.
"We can try," you suggest. "Or we can make a stand here. When we run out of food, we can raid the neighbors. Plenty of apartments in here, if we can figure out how to get into them. It would be hard, but we could try to survive here, at home. But is that what you want?"
"I don't know," he sniffs.
"We don't have to decide right now," you breathe. "We can think about it until morning. But whatever we do, we're doing it together. Alright?"
"Alright," he agrees.
You eat a quiet breakfast together. You gesture to the Central Park blanket, asking Eric if he wants to soak up a little of the morning sun. He shakes his head and retreats to the bedroom. You walk to the window, looking out at the bloody spot in the street and weighing your options.
You end up sitting at the kitchen table with a notebook and a pen and writing a letter to Evan. Every emotion you've felt since he's been gone, every thought that's crossed your mind since you brought Eric home. By the time you sign it, you know what you have to do.
You close the notebook and go to the bedroom. Eric's lying there, awake, tears shining on his face in the light from the hallway. You close the door and crawl to him. His arms open to draw you closer, and you rest your head on his chest.
"I think we should go," you whisper. "This could be our only chance."
"What do we take with us?" Eric wonders, having reached the same conclusion as you.
You spend the next hour brainstorming. Then, you leave the bedroom together and start gathering supplies. You dump them on the couch. Two old backpacks from college that Evan threatened to throw away during every cleaning spree turn out to be godsends. You fill the backpacks with tightly rolled clothes and plastic zipper bags containing everything from medical supplies to photographs. You'll be guarding those precious paper memories with your life. What good is digital content now? You pack your phone, too. Just in case.
You feast on canned food for lunch and dinner, not wanting to take any of it with you. It would only weigh you down. It's no Thanksgiving feast or Christmas dinner, but it's a nice change from the rationing you've been attempting.
When you return to bed for the night, you find that sleep won't come.
"I'm going to miss this place," you whisper. "Out of everywhere I've ever lived, this is the place I'll always think of as home. I spent the best years of my life here with your brother. And survived the end of the world with you. This place has been good to us."
But we can't survive here forever, you think.
"Where's home for you?" you ask. He thinks about it for a moment, and you mentally flip through photos of Evan and Eric's childhood home. Professionally decorated, meticulously maintained. Forced smiles for everyone.
"Here," he whispers, "with you."
"Dammit Eric," you growl, wiping away tears. "I'm already sentimental and scared, stop making me cry."
"Sorry," he chuckles, pulling you closer. "I'm told that it's okay to be scared."
Memories of finding him terrified and alone in that hospital bathroom flood back, and you hold him a little tighter.
"But now, we have to be brave," you whisper.
"Now, we have to be brave," he echoes.
"Actually, now we have to rest," you smile. "We can be brave tomorrow."
You're both shaky and nervous the next morning. You eat canned food for breakfast again, keeping watch out the window for more survivors making the trek to the pier. You don't see anyone. What if there is no one else?
The clock seems to stand still as you wait for time to leave. You double and triple check the contents of your bags, making sure you haven't forgotten anything. There's a framed photo of you and Evan on the kitchen table, on top of the notebook where you rambled for twenty-eight pages about how much you'll always love him. This morning, you added another page about where you and Eric were going. Eric scribbled a few things too, but you hadn't asked to read them.
When you run out of things to do, you decide to go.
You hesitate at the door, remembering all the great times you've had in this apartment. Lying on the couch and watching trashy TV with the best friend you've ever had. Watching him baby his beloved bonsai tree by the window. Watering the hard-to-reach plants he always forgot about. Making dinner together. Decorating Christmas cookies. A magic show and a picnic in a makeshift park.
You didn't even consider taking Eric anywhere else when the world ended. This was home. This is where you both needed to be.
And now, you need to go.
A tear falls from your eye as you reach for the doorknob. Eric's hand closes over yours. You look up at him, and he pulls you into a hug.
"It's going to be alright," he whispers. "We can do this."
"I know," you whisper back. "I love you."
"I love you, too."
You give each other one final squeeze, then turn the doorknob and step outside your apartment for the first time in over a week. You make your way down the stairs - easier this time, since Eric's no-longer-bandaged feet are protected by shoes and you have a flashlight - and out the door on the ground floor. The blood spot on the street looks much bigger up close. You can't stop staring at it.
Eric takes your hand and gives a slight tug, and leads you down the street and away from everything you know. You reach the pier well over an hour early, and proceed down the creaky boards with caution. There are no creatures or other people in sight. It's eerily quiet, and a little cool outside today. There is no sun; everything is dull and grey. The smell of smoke still lingers in the air. You wish the wind would pick up and add some extra noise. You don't like feeling this exposed.
When you reach the end of the pier, you take off your backpacks and sit with your backs to the railing. Your fingers intertwine. You take turns watching the water and watching the city. No signs of life anywhere except right beside you. It's unnerving.
You squint into the distance, eventually seeing movement on the street. People. Just a handful, but there are still living people here. You tap Eric's knee and point in their direction. He watches them for a moment, then looks to you and smiles. Hope. There's hope.
You stay put and wait for them to get to you, eyes sweeping the river again. Eric gives you a nudge and gestures behind you. You turn and see the boat approaching, so far away it looks like a toy. Your face breaks into a grin, and you turn back to him. You're getting the fuck out of here.
A scream sounds from the street. Your heads whip toward it. The people have started to run. Those massive monsters skitter across the sides of buildings on all fours, at least a dozen of them, breaking glass and sending bricks crashing to the ground as they move in. The people don't stand a chance. Not running and screaming like that. Hide! Shut up! How did you people survive this long?! You and Eric look on in horror as the monsters jump off the side of the building and onto the crowd below.
The screaming stops abruptly.
Eric's hold on your hand is becoming painful. He's shaking, and crying, and you need him to calm down. You bring your free hand to hold the side of his face.
"Breathe," you mouth, no sound coming out. You turn his face away from the city, hoping your fingers block his view of the street so he can't see the monsters still lingering.
He's starting to hyperventilate. You try to keep his eyes on you, showing him how to breathe in and out. He tries. He tries so hard.
And then you hear the motor of the approaching boat.
So do the monsters.
You hear them taking off before you see them. But they're coming, and they're coming right at you. The boat's not close yet, but you can't wait.
You have to go now.
You stand and put on your backpack, but Eric doesn't move. His eyes have locked onto those creatures, and he's paralyzed with fear.
"Eric!" you hiss. His head whips toward you, his eyes big and watering. "Come on!"
You reach down and grab his collar, pulling him to his feet. It seems to shock his senses back into him. He grabs his bag, and doesn't even have time to put it on before you drag him over the railing and into the freezing river. You keep a firm hold on him, refusing to let go of his sweater even after you've surfaced.
You both gasp for breath and look up to see those things thundering toward end of the pier. Why do have they so many teeth?! You pull Eric backward, kicking frantically and trying to put some distance between you and all the fangs. They stop at the railing and leer at you, and you swim away like your lives depend on it.
When your legs start to get tired and you realize that you're in the middle of the fucking Hudson, where those things can't get you, you settle for treading water and waiting for your rescuers to get closer.
Climbing the little ladder on the side of the boat is one of the hardest things you've ever done. A man grabs your hands when you're in reach, and hauls you the rest of the way. You land on your side on the deck, water rapidly dripping from your clothes and forming a pool around you. You're exhausted. Your body shakes, but you're not sure if it's from the cold or from the fading adrenaline.
"Thank you," you breathe, unable to speak any louder.
Eric hits the deck next to you, and you reach for him. You pull each other close, grateful to still be together.
"Fancy meeting you here," you shiver. His chattering teeth form a smile. It reaches his eyes, unlike last time you tried that line on him. That birthday adventure at the arcade feels like it happened a lifetime ago. In a way... it kind of did.
Scattered shouts come from around you, but you're too exhausted to hear them. Your eyes are locked onto Eric's, and you're perfectly content to lie there and stare at him for the time being. You made it. The two of you actually made it. You're getting out of here, and you're going to be okay.
Someone eventually helps you up off the deck, which is tough on everyone involved because of how much your wet clothes weigh you down, and leads you out of the way. You don't realize you're still wearing your backpacks until you try to sit down.
You and Eric are given blankets and kind words and assurances that you're safe now, then left alone in a quiet little corner of your own.
You sit quietly, huddled under your blankets and holding onto each other for dear life, as you watch the city pass you by for what might be the very last time. Buildings are destroyed. Clouds of smoke still rise from places you can't see. Those things hover by the shore, following the sound of the boat's roaring motor.
More people come aboard.
Not many, but you feel your spirits rise with every rescue.
When the boat veers away from the battered buildings and toward the open sea, you heave a sigh. You don't know if it's filled with more sadness or relief.
"We're gonna be alright," Eric says, gazing out at the water ahead.
"As long as we've got each other," you add, resting your head on his shoulder.
The sun finally peeks through the clouds. When those first rays hit your wet clothes, you can feel the difference in temperature immediately. You stretch out your legs, and Eric does the same. You look to him with a smile. You're so glad he's here with you.
"Dumbest people left alive," you grin.
"But they'll live to see another day," he smiles, his eyes warming you more than the blazing sun.
"And maybe even live happily ever after?" you suggest.
"I love you."
"I love you, too," you whisper, out of pure habit.
Maybe you'll be able to break that one of these days.

Less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene tore through the American Southeast, hospitals and health care providers in Florida are preparing for yet another destructive storm as Hurricane Milton hurtles toward the state’s west coast.
The National Hurricane Center described the storm, currently a Category 5 hurricane, as “extremely dangerous” late Tuesday morning. As it makes landfall late Wednesday or early Thursday near Tampa, Milton is predicted to bring high winds and storm surges of 10 feet or higher to parts of Florida’s west coast and heavy rains throughout most of the peninsula.
As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 200 health care facilities in impacted areas were reporting evacuations, including over 100 assisted living facilities and 10 hospitals. In preparation for the storm, the Florida Department of Health has deployed more than 600 ambulances and other emergency response vehicles and has set up 11 special-needs shelters for people with disabilities.
“We truly are concerned about the magnitude of this hurricane and the potential catastrophic impacts,” Mary Mayhew, president and CEO of the Florida Hospital Association, tells WIRED. The organization represents the state’s more than 300 hospitals. In Florida, which gets hit with more storms than any other US state, hospitals have closed in the past because of weather disasters, but Mayhew says what is unusual this time is the high number of health care facilities that have evacuated ahead of Milton.
Affected hospitals are transferring patients to other facilities within their health care systems. Steve McCoy, Florida’s chief of emergency medical oversight, said during an emergency preparedness briefing on Tuesday that nearly 600 vehicles, including buses, ambulances, and vans, have been deployed to move patients to safety. “This has been our largest evacuation ever,” he said.
HCA Florida Healthcare, a network of hospitals and physician practices that operates across the state, said Tuesday afternoon that it is temporarily closing or suspending services at several hospitals and emergency rooms. “Once the patient transfers are complete, the hospitals will be temporarily closed and will reopen when it is safe to do so following the storm,” the health care system said in a statement.
Hospitals that remain open have implemented flood-mitigation plans, moved electrical equipment away from flood areas, and stocked supplies that may be needed in an emergency.
Tampa General Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Milton’s path, will remain open and has activated its hurricane-preparedness plan. The academic health system is the region’s only Level I Trauma Center and, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said it is “ready to meet the needs of patients throughout the state who require care after the storm has passed.” Health care providers and staff who are trained in emergency management will remain on-site throughout the storm to care for patients. Additional providers and staff will return to work as soon as the storm passes and the roads are safe.
The hospital—which is sited on the Davis Islands at sea level and is protected by various systems including an AquaFence barrier—has an on-site central energy plant located 33 feet above sea level that can provide a power supply in the event of power disruption. According to Tampa General, the energy plant was built to withstand the impact and flooding of a Category 5 hurricane. The hospital says it has more than five days of supplies, including food and linens, on-site.
For people who need emergency care in the immediate aftermath of Milton, Mayhew worries about the ability of emergency services to get patients to hospitals. “Milton is coming on the heels of hurricane Helene, which left significant debris strewn in the same area where Milton is approaching,” she says. Drains are likely clogged, which could add to flooding and make more roads impassable.
With the state’s highest concentration of nursing homes located on its west coast, thousands of residents are also being transferred out of the hurricane’s impact zone. The Florida Health Care Association, an advocacy organization for nursing and long-term-care facilities, has been working with the state’s Agency for Health Care Administration to identify facilities in the Panhandle, as well as in Georgia and Alabama, with available beds. All long-term care facilities in Florida have a generator on-site.
“I don’t have to tell you this storm is bad,” said Emmett Reed, CEO of the Florida Health Care Association, during Tuesday’s briefing. “Even if it's downgraded a little bit before it makes landfall, it's going to be catastrophic.”
Depending on location, kidney dialysis facilities across the state are planning appropriate closures and were trying to treat as many patients as possible on Tuesday.

Return of hundreds of thousands of forcibly displaced people to Gaza City and North Gaza must be secured, not used as blackmail card
Palestinian Territory - The international community must take swift and serious action to force Israel to stop committing its crime of forced displacement against the people of the Gaza Strip. Israel has forcibly displaced over 1.2 million residents of the Strip in a systematic, widespread, and repetitive manner since the start of its genocidal war on 7 October 2023.
After being forced to travel and shelter south of the Gaza Valley in recent months, thousands of people must be allowed to return to their homes in the Gaza and North Gaza governorates. This is especially important since the Israeli military attack on Rafah has effectively ended the existence of the so-called “safe zone”, which served as a relative haven for those who were forcibly displaced from various parts of the Gaza Strip and had no other place to stay.
Since the Israeli army issued the final orders for forced displacement on 6 May, more than 700,000 people have left Rafah. The forced displacement is still occurring despite extremely difficult circumstances, with families struggling to find tents large enough to house them, arrange for transportation, and pay costs associated with their evacuation.
The orders to leave Rafah come eight months into the genocide, which has destroyed most families’ sources of livelihood and left the majority of them jobless. These families have not only endured repeated forced evacuation and expulsion, but have also lost a great deal of their belongings, including the meagre food supplies they started out with.
Given the numerous Israeli threats to invade the border city, Euro-Med Monitor estimates that roughly 150,000 people were forcibly removed from Rafah in the weeks prior to the official orders of forced evacuation.
Most of these are displaced people who were forcibly evacuated from Gaza City and North Gaza last October after the Israeli army issued widespread orders for forced displacement on 13 October 2023, stating that all residents of the two governorates were subject to the following warning: “Urgent warning to residents of the Gaza Strip: Your presence north of the Gaza Valley puts your lives in danger. Anyone who refuses to flee from the northern part of the Gaza Strip to the southern part of the Gaza Valley might be linked to terrorist groups.”
Over the course of several months, the Israeli forces have taken various measures to forcefully displace more than 900 thousand Palestinians. These measures have included direct evacuation orders and the creation of a coercive environment that has resulted in a mass exodus due to Israel’s violent bombing, intimidation, storming of homes and shelter centres, and its forcing those sheltering inside to leave and travel south. Nearly 400,000 people have remained internally displaced in the Gaza City and North Gaza governorates.
Since there is no longer any area in the Strip that is even relatively safe following Israel’s invasion of Rafah and forced evacuation of its residents about two weeks ago, Israel’s argument that those displaced from Gaza City must stay in the Strip’s south for safety purposes is rendered invalid.
Due to their large numbers and lack of access to basic amenities, hundreds of thousands of displaced people have been forced to take refuge in the streets and on the coast, west of Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah in the southern and central sections of the Strip.
According to statements made by Israeli and international media, Israel stated during the cease-fire negotiations that it was willing to return displaced people to their areas of residence in Gaza City and North Gaza. This means that, in defiance of all international legal regulations, the international community is currently permitting Israel to use the possibility of the cessation of this serious crime as a tool of negotiation and blackmail.
Forced displacement is a grave crime that is negatively impacting the lives of over a million civilians, most of whom are women and children. As it is being carried out methodically and extensively, it is considered a crime against humanity and a war crime, and is included in the crime of genocide that Israel is committing in the Gaza Strip.
After nearly eight months of Israeli aggression and forced displacement, which has left over a million people in tents and inadequate shelter centres without access to basic necessities, and in light of the end of combat operations in most residential areas in the north, their right to return home must be granted immediately.
Even though Israeli bombing and bulldozing operations have destroyed about 70% of the Strip’s residential areas, going back to their homes and living next to them is still an obligatory right that needs to be fulfilled right away. This must be supported by an international commitment to immediately provide water, basic necessities for survival, health care, and other temporary housing needs, as well as to compensate the victims for all of their losses in compliance with international law and hold Israel accountable for all of its crimes, including the crime of forced displacement.
Denying this right leaves 1.2 million forcibly displaced people homeless, without any guarantee of return, amid a lack of basic necessities or adequate shelter. Further, Israel’s closure of border crossings, plus its blocking of aid entry and cash into the Gaza Strip, amount to an Israeli decision to impose a new catastrophe on the Palestinian people and continue to cause famine and use starvation as a weapon of war in order to complete its genocide against the Palestinian people.

Economic Overview: Key Market Developments
Critical Update
Sudden market shifts may occur due to significant events. Monitor trading positions and implement risk management strategies during these uncertain times.
Economic Overview
As we enter a new quarter, the market faces numerous challenges. Rising war tensions, de-dollarization efforts, and upcoming elections in the U.S., France, and Iran contribute to the uncertainty. Here’s a detailed analysis of these developments and their potential impacts.
Currency Shifts
Russia’s move to use the Chinese Yuan for international trade and the increase in gold reserves by central banks are noteworthy. While the Yuan may not replace the U.S. Dollar soon, these actions indicate strategic shifts. Gold purchases serve as a hedge against potential currency volatility.
Geopolitical Conflicts
Middle East: The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon has intensified, with Iran warning of severe retaliation if Lebanon is attacked. Daily strikes continue, and countries like the U.S. and Germany have advised their citizens to leave Lebanon.
South China Sea: On June 19, 2024, Chinese coast guard officers attacked Philippine military personnel near the Second Thomas Shoal, escalating tensions. The U.S. has reaffirmed its defense treaty with the Philippines, which could lead to military involvement if violence escalates.
Korean Peninsula: North and South Korea are on edge, with Russia signing a defense treaty with North Korea. Border incidents and threats over South Korea’s potential troop deployment to Ukraine have heightened tensions.
Nuclear Brinkmanship: France and Russia’s nuclear brinkmanship is a significant risk, with both countries attempting to establish deterrent boundaries.
Economic and Market Effects
These conflicts could alter monetary power dynamics and supply chains. Expect increased oil demand and gold purchases as safe-haven assets. Silver demand will also rise due to its military applications.
Diplomatic Relations
Zimbabwe and Zambia: Tensions are high as Zimbabwe aligns more closely with Russia, accusing the U.S. of militarizing Zambia.
Election Updates
Iran: Presidential elections are nearing completion as candidates drop out.
France: The first stage of snap parliamentary elections is complete.
U.S.: The first debate between Biden and Trump was contentious, adding to the uncertainty of the upcoming election.
Natural Disaster Considerations
While not detailed here, it’s crucial to consider the impact of natural disasters on economic activities and implement strong risk management.
Key Market Data and Analysis
Final GDP: Increased from 1.3% to 1.4%.
Unemployment: Fell by 3k more than forecasted, indicating a stronger U.S. economy.
Core PCE: Decreased from 0.3% to 0.1%.
Consumer Confidence: Fell but remained above forecasted numbers.
Housing Market: New home sales dropped significantly, while pending home sales improved slightly but missed expectations.
GOLD
Gold prices remain within a range, with resistance at 2431.705 and support at 2295.536. A bullish trend is expected despite fluctuations.
SILVER
Silver prices showed growth, reaching 29.900 before settling at 29.018. Resistance is expected at 29.900, but an overall upward trend is anticipated.
DXY (Dollar Index)
The dollar index showed growth but may face weakness with the anticipated September rate cut. A bearish outlook is expected.
GBPUSD
The pound remains within a range. With potential rate cuts in both the U.K. and the U.S., significant price changes are unlikely in the near term.
AUDUSD
The Aussie dollar shows upward momentum but needs to break above 0.67142 to confirm this trend. Analysts predict rate cuts only in late 2025, potentially benefiting the currency.
NZDUSD
Similar to the Aussie dollar, the New Zealand dollar shows growth and may benefit from delayed rate cuts until late 2025.
EURUSD
The ECB’s cautious rate cut approach has weakened the Euro. Further cuts are expected but at a slower pace, indicating potential continued weakness.
USDJPY
Despite interventions, the USDJPY continues to grow. Watch for further interventions and economic data to gauge future movements.
USDCHF
The Swiss Franc fell after recent rate cuts. Further rate cuts are uncertain, making the USDCHF volatile.
USDCAD
The CAD showed weakness against the dollar, with analysts predicting further rate cuts. Price consolidation is expected as we await more data.
Stay informed and practice diligent risk management as we navigate these challenging market conditions. More updates to come.

Officer Grinch gives speeding drivers in Florida a choice: a fine or an onion (Reuters) Officer “Grinch” was in a generous spirit in the days ahead of Christmas. Colonel Lou Caputo of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office donned the Grinch costume and worked with other deputies to pull over speeding drivers on the Florida Keys Overseas Highway at Key Largo. Those who were only a little over the speed limit were given a choice by Officer Grinch. “Because it is the holiday season, if they’re just going a few miles an hour over the speed limit what we’ll do, we’ll give you a choice of the citation or an onion,” said Caputo. As well as being handed an onion, offending drivers are given a lesson on slowing down. “Even though you’re hectic, it’s busy. Slow down. Let’s keep our kids safe throughout the holiday season,” he said.
Mexico launches coast-to-coast passenger and cargo railway (Reuters) Mexico on Friday launched operations on a train line that crosses the country’s narrowest point from the Gulf coast to the Pacific Ocean, kicking off a flagship government project as the administration enters its last months in office. The “Inter-Oceanic Train,” which will carry both passengers and cargo on a three-hour trip from the coastal hub of Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz state to the Pacific port of Salina Cruz, is part of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s plan to bring investment to the country’s poorer south. Officials have pitched the train line as a potential rival to the Panama Canal, which curbed operations this year due to a historic drought.
Volcano eruption dashes Iceland families’ Christmas hopes (Reuters) Families from the Icelandic town of Grindavik won’t be going home for Christmas this year even after the tremors from this week’s volcano eruption died down and the lava stopped a few miles short of their front doors. They were allowed back briefly on Thursday to collect presents and belongings and check on their properties. But authorities say it is still too dangerous for the fishing town’s 4,000 residents to move back full time.
Russia Makes Small Battlefield Gains, Increasing Pressure on Ukraine (NYT) Russian forces have scored small territorial gains along Ukraine’s eastern front in recent weeks, using their manpower advantage in grueling battles and prompting the Ukrainian authorities to consider a push to mobilize up to 500,000 soldiers to sustain the exhausting fight next year. The chief of Ukraine’s military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said this week that he saw no alternative to a large-scale mobilization to make up for Ukraine’s losses. And President Volodymyr Zelensky said his army chiefs had asked him to mobilize 450,000 to 500,000 men. “This is a serious number,” Mr. Zelensky said at a news conference on Tuesday, adding that a plan still had to be drawn up before he could make a decision. Although many Ukrainians have yet to be drafted into the military, the authorities are reluctant to resort to mass conscription for fear of stirring up social tensions.
China's Henan province hit by shortage of winter heating after cold wave (Reuters) Several cities in the central Chinese province of Henan are facing a winter heating supply crunch after a cold wave swept through a swathe of areas, bringing blizzards and sending temperatures to near historic lows. Persistent cold snaps have put thermal power suppliers under strain in Jiaozuo, a city in Henan, with a breakdown of heating boilers in one of the major suppliers leaving some areas in urgent need of more heat supply. The city will suspend heat supply for most businesses except essential service providers such as hospitals and senior centres to prioritise residential heat usage. However, some residential compounds will still be affected during the device maintenance period, the media reports added.
U.N. Passes Resolution on Gaza Aid but Does Not Call for ‘Suspension of Hostilities’ (NYT) The United Nations Security Council on Friday adopted a resolution that would allow more aid to reach desperate civilians in the Gaza Strip, ending nearly a week of intense diplomatic wrangling intended to prevent the United States from blocking the measure. But the resolution stopped short of past attempts to impose a cease-fire. The vote was 13 to 0, with the United States and Russia abstaining. The resolution was adopted after diplomats repeatedly delayed the vote this week and reworked the measure in heated negotiations aimed at winning support from the United States, which previously vetoed two resolutions that called for a cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hamas. The measure did not impose a legally binding cease-fire and instead called for “urgent and extended humanitarian pauses and corridors throughout the Gaza Strip for a sufficient number of days to enable full, rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access.” It also dropped from earlier drafts demands for the “urgent suspension of hostilities,” replacing them with more watered-down language that recommended creating “the conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities.”
A Times Investigation Tracked Israel’s Use of One of Its Most Destructive Bombs in South Gaza (NYT) During the first six weeks of the war in Gaza, Israel routinely used one of its biggest and most destructive bombs in areas it designated safe for civilians, according to an analysis of visual evidence by The New York Times. The video investigation focuses on the use of 2,000-pound bombs in an area of southern Gaza where Israel had ordered civilians to move for safety. While bombs of that size are used by several Western militaries, munitions experts say they are almost never dropped by U.S. forces in densely populated areas anymore. In response to questions about the bomb’s use in south Gaza, an Israeli military spokesman said in a statement to The Times that Israel’s priority was destroying Hamas and “questions of this kind will be looked into at a later stage.” The spokesman also said that the I.D.F. “takes feasible precautions to mitigate civilian harm.”

doom?? a guide to staying alive
"An atmospheric river is a newer name for a familiar weather pattern called the “Pineapple Express.” Meteorologists use the term to describe a flow of moisture from areas just north of Hawaii directly into the Pacific Northwest that is usually accompanied by heavy rainfall and high snow levels."
So we're here just south of the Bay Area in NorCal, certain we're safe from hurricanes, as Hawaii exists—right?
Wrong!
This ✨beautiful phenomenon✨ is a rare occurrence reported to be rolling in all over the Central Coast sometime later tonight, bringing with it mudslides, heavy wind and rainfall, flash flooding, and maybe most concerning, a week-long power outage all over the county.
Well I have 6 younger siblings I couldn't keep infecting with my anxiety, so I had to do something. What better to do than to gather my knowledge so we can prepare?
FIRST: keep your devices updated with all the alerts and news in your area, as well as communications with your family and friends.
SECOND, WARMTH: your heater ain't gon be working, unless you have a wood-fueled fireplace. In which case, I got nothing more for you. Otherwise: Blankets. Blankets, blankets, blankets. If you're not out of electricity yet, use this opportunity to wash any that need it, and break out extra. Your beds will need plenty ofc, maybe some on couches and other comfy places too. Use tents and blankets as tents around small areas you need warmest, covering windows while not in use will help too.
THIRD, LIGHTING: candles are the obvious, but also a fire hazard. The windows remaining in use will be great during the day, and for the night: flashlights. If you use an empty milk jug (washed out, for the love) and tape its mouth to the flashlight's head, it'll be a great lantern, completely safe, too. Candles are still a great option, we mainly use them in the bathroom and kitchen tho, as water is nearby and the counters won't catch. If you're desperate, crayons (Crayola, atl) will burn for 30 min each.
FOURTH, FOOD: ok ngl there isn't a whole ton to be said here when a power outage is already approaching. Shelf-stable food is the way to go, and a gas stove will still work, even if your microwave and oven don't. In advance, keep a storage of 3 months worth for each person in your household, we keep ours in the garage. Cans of fruit, beans, veggies, etc; boxes of pasta, cereal, dried food, as long as you don't have a pest problem these are safe.
LAST, WATER: soooo most power outages aren't gonna bother the water. Problem is, the causes can: the flash flooding brought on by the storm is likely to infect the water supply, and as my dad says, "we may actually need to boil the literal crap out of it". So, there's that, and mostly along the same lines as the food you'll need it in storage. We use empty milk gallons (also washed, plz don't be nasty) and fill them up, clean tap water will be fine. These are used for flushing, washing hands, cooking, drinking, everything short of bathing. We personally have large water storage containers, but it's not uncommon to lack the room (these are also kept in the garage). In addition to that, ig prep once you know contamination is on the way. We're running laundry, washing produce, showering, and securing the perimeter so we don't have water damage inside.
Aaaaand that's it! Hope this helps somebody~

Storm Bert 2024: Latest Weather Warnings, Snow Hazards, and Impact Across the UK
The UK is bracing for Storm Bert, the second named storm of the season in 2024, as it promises to bring severe weather challenges this weekend. With weather warnings issued for strong winds, heavy rain, snow, and freezing rain, the nation is gearing up for potential disruptions. This article delves deep into the impacts of Storm Bert, including its effects on cities like Glasgow, Aberdeen, and beyond. Stay informed about the evolving weather situation and prepare for the changes ahead.
youtube
What is Storm Bert?
Storm Bert, officially named by Ireland’s Met ireann, is a powerful storm undergoing explosive cyclogenesis, often referred to as a weather bomb. This phenomenon occurs when the central pressure of a storm drops by more than 24mb within 24 hours, significantly intensifying its strength. As it moves in from the Atlantic, Storm Bert is set to bring multiple weather hazards, including high winds, snow, and heavy rainfall.
Weather Warnings for the UK
1. Amber and Yellow Warnings for Snow and Ice
Met Office Amber Warning: Central Scotland, including parts of the Grampians and Highlands, is under an amber alert for snow and ice on Saturday, with up to 30-40cm of snow expected on higher ground.
Yellow Warning: Widespread snow and rain are expected across Scotland and northern England, with accumulations of 5-10cm even at lower levels. Blizzard conditions could disrupt travel on higher routes.
2. Wind Warnings
Strong Winds Across the UK: Gusts of 40-60mph will be common across Scotland and northern England on Saturday morning.
Irish Sea Coasts: Winds could reach up to 70mph, potentially causing damage to buildings and transport networks. Power outages are also possible.
3. Heavy Rain Alerts
Flood Risks: Areas in south-west England and Wales may receive up to 125mm of rain, equivalent to the average rainfall for the entire month of November. Localised flooding is a significant concern.
Weather Impacts on Cities
Glasgow Weather
In Glasgow, residents should prepare for heavy rain, strong winds, and potential flooding. Temperatures will rise slightly over the weekend, but road and rail disruptions are likely.
Aberdeen Weather
For Aberdeen, snow and icy conditions will dominate. Commuters and residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially on routes prone to snow accumulation.
The Winter Hazards: Snow and Freezing Rain
As Storm Bert collides with Arctic air already settled over the UK, significant snowfalls are predicted in Scotland and parts of northern England. Some regions may also experience freezing rain, where rain freezes upon contact with icy surfaces, creating treacherous roads and pavements.
Temperature Shift: Turning Milder
Despite the cold snap leading into the weekend, temperatures are expected to rise as Storm Bert ushers in milder south-westerly winds:
Saturday: Wales, central, and southern England will see temperatures of 12-15°C, while Scotland and northern England remain colder at 2-7°C.
Sunday: Milder air will spread across the UK, providing temporary relief from the harsh winter conditions.
Preparing for Storm Bert 2024
Given the wide-ranging impacts of Storm Bert, here’s how to stay safe and minimize disruptions:
Monitor Weather Warnings: Regularly check updates from the Met Office for changes in weather warnings.
Travel Safely: Avoid traveling in areas under amber or yellow warnings unless necessary.
Flood Preparedness: Protect your property if you live in areas at risk of flooding.
Winter Essentials: Keep emergency supplies like warm clothing, food, and flashlights on hand in case of power outages.
Conclusion
Storm Bert 2024 is a stark reminder of the unpredictability of winter weather in the UK. From snow weather warnings in Scotland to flood alerts in Wales, the storm is set to challenge residents across the country. Stay vigilant, prepare for potential disruptions, and keep updated on the latest developments as this powerful weather system unfolds.

Florida on Edge: Hurricane Debby Approaches
Good day, Florida! As we brace ourselves for what could be a significant weather event, we turn our attention to Hurricane Debby, which is rapidly making its way toward our shores. With the potential to impact millions, this storm is a reminder of the power of nature and the importance of preparedness.
The Name Behind the Storm
Before we delve into the specifics, let’s take a moment to understand how storms like Debby get their names. The name “Debby” comes from a list created by the World Meteorological Organization, which rotates names every six years. While Debby has graced the hurricane list before, each storm brings its unique characteristics. Originating in the central Atlantic, Hurricane Debby has steadily picked up strength as it moves westward, now threatening the southeastern United States.
Current Status and Trajectory
As of now, Hurricane Debby has been upgraded to a Category 2 hurricane, boasting sustained winds of up to 100 mph. Meteorologists are closely monitoring its path, which is projected to lead it directly toward Florida’s Gulf Coast in the coming days. There is even a possibility that Debby could strengthen to a Category 3 hurricane before it makes landfall, which would significantly escalate its potential impact.
What Could Happen if Debby Hits Florida
If Hurricane Debby makes landfall at its current strength or stronger, Floridians could face dire consequences. Heavy rainfall, powerful winds, and dangerous storm surges are expected, which could lead to extensive flooding, power outages, and infrastructure damage. To provide context, we only need to look back to Hurricane Ian, which struck Florida in September 2022. Ian, a devastating Category 4 hurricane, caused catastrophic damage, particularly in Southwest Florida, with losses estimated in the billions. If Debby follows a similar trajectory, the impact could be severe, especially for vulnerable coastal communities.
Preparing for Hurricane Debby
As the storm approaches, preparation is key. Here are crucial steps everyone should take:
Stay Informed: Keep a close eye on updates from the National Hurricane Center and local news outlets to stay informed about Debby’s progress and any evacuation orders.
Emergency Kit: Assemble an emergency kit stocked with essential items like water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.
Evacuation Plan: Identify your evacuation routes and have a family plan in place, including arrangements for pets.
Secure Your Property: Trim trees, secure outdoor furniture, and consider boarding up windows to protect your home from wind and debris.
Fuel and Supplies: Fill your gas tank and ensure you have enough supplies to last several days, as power outages and road closures are likely.
Communication: Establish a communication plan with family and friends to ensure everyone knows how to reach each other during the storm.
Hurricane Debby is more than just a storm; it’s a serious threat that could profoundly impact Florida. As we prepare for its arrival, it’s vital to take this situation seriously. By staying informed and taking proactive steps, we can minimize risks and protect ourselves and our loved ones.
Stay safe, Florida! Keep an eye on the latest updates as we navigate through this storm together. Remember, preparation is our best defense against the forces of nature.

A well-maintained water filtration system acts as a barrier, ensuring that the water you consume is free from harmful substances. Regular maintenance helps prevent malfunctions and guarantees the system's effectiveness in purifying your water.
2. Changing Filters Regularly:
Filters are the backbone of any water filtration system. Over time, they accumulate particles and contaminants, reducing their efficiency. It’s crucial to follow the manufacturer's guidelines on filter replacement. In Sydney, where water quality can vary, replacing filters at recommended intervals is essential for consistent performance.
3. Checking for Leaks and Drips:
A common issue with water filtration systems is leaks or drips. Regularly inspect all connections and fittings for any signs of water leakage. Addressing leaks promptly not only prevents water wastage but also avoids potential damage to your filtration system.
4. Inspecting for Sediment Buildup:
Sediment buildup in the water storage tank or pipes can compromise the system's efficiency. Periodically inspect for any sediment accumulation and flush the system if necessary. This step is particularly important in areas like Sydney, where water quality might lead to sediment deposits over time.
5. Testing Water Quality:
Conducting regular water quality tests ensures that your filtration system is working effectively. There are professional services available in Sydney that can analyze your water and provide insights into its quality. Additionally, some water filtration systems come with built-in indicators that signal when water quality might be compromised.
6. Professional Servicing:
While some maintenance tasks can be performed by homeowners, professional servicing is recommended at regular intervals. Water filtration specialists in Sydney can conduct thorough inspections, identify potential issues, and perform maintenance tasks that require expertise.
7. Monitoring Water Pressure:
Adequate water pressure is crucial for the proper functioning of your water filtration system. Low water pressure could indicate a clogged filter or other issues within the system. Regularly monitor water pressure and address any deviations promptly.
8. Seasonal Maintenance Considerations:
Sydney experiences seasonal variations that can impact water quality. Consider adjusting your maintenance schedule based on these changes. For instance, after heavy rainfall, there might be an increase in sediment in the water, requiring more frequent checks.
9. Educating Yourself on System Operation:
Understanding how your specific water filtration system operates is key to effective maintenance. Read the manufacturer's manual thoroughly and educate yourself on the system's components and functions. This knowledge empowers you to troubleshoot minor issues and communicate effectively with professional service providers.
10. Promoting Eco-Friendly Practices:
Sydney residents are increasingly conscious of environmental sustainability. Consider eco-friendly practices in your water filtration system maintenance routine, such as recycling used filters or choosing systems that are energy-efficient.
In conclusion, maintaining your water filtration system in Sydney is a proactive step towards ensuring a continuous supply of clean and safe water. By following these maintenance guidelines, you contribute not only to the longevity and efficiency of your system but also to the health and well-being of your household. Regular upkeep is a small investment that pays off in the form of consistently high water quality.
