here’s the short of it: 

the beginning isn’t as interesting as the present. her childhood is a blur now. vague memories that hardly seem like her own after growing up as part of the help in the winter palace, cold and bored out of her mind. her mother was a seamstress, her mother’s mother, a maid, her mother’s mother’s mother, a cook, and so on and so forth into the years---one more tedious than the one that came before it. 

it took her until her sixteenth year to decide that she was made for more than a life of thankless servitude. the breathy praises that young lords whispered into her ears during intimate embraces in hidden corridors only encouraged her. 

it started with handwritten letters requesting her company being sent to the kitchens where she worked, then subsequently burned by the messenger to leave no trace. the letters arrived more frequently as whispers of the young woman were exchanged in parlors. 

there is so much more to what she does than just what she can offer with her body. sabina is the perfect conpanion. she is a chameleon when she needs to, figuring out a way to fit into any crowd her clients may bring her near. behind closed doors she has been a confidante to lonely duchesses, a source of comfort to widowed kings, a friend to counts and coutesses, alike; sought after for her opinions on life, art, policies. whether or not you agree with her practices, sabina has figured out a way to make herself desired and useful to nobility in a number of ways, and in exchange for her company, she is compensated generously.

due to the nature of her work, there has been little opportunity for her to get close to many people who are not in high class circles. she has few friends that she does not also consider clients. she can become terribly lonely at times because of this. 

dissociation is something she has struggled with all her life. she has odd habits of getting herself to feel something, anything.

a large part of why she is so valuable to royals is because of how long she has kept clients within the palace and never spilled a single secret. if you tell her something in confidence, she will take it to her grave

while she does not express it freely, there is a sense of entitlement that burns inside of her that stems from her not knowing who her father is, and the fantasy that she has held since she was a girl that her father is a king from some far off land.

They were at one time (when he was positioned in Genovia) partners in crime, or so she thought. By blurring the lines of business and pleasure he used her, and her services, to climb the social ladder until he got where he needed to be, lying the entire way there. Once he no longer needed her, he vanished back to Italy. Sabina genuinely loved him. The same can’t be said for how he felt about her, though during the times when he wasn’t being dishonest, he was kind. A mink coat he once gave her is her prized possession, still, after everything that happened between them. )
