omg i need all your thoughts and feelings about rwrb asap - go go go
okay so. keeping in mind that i don’t remember much of the book (only that alex has a sister and henry’s description of grief), the movie absolutely shattered my expectations. is it still kinda corny? yeah for sure it’s an amazon studios rom com. who cares. i went in expecting an absolute travesty and zero chemistry between the actors but i was sooo wrong. the trailer sucks. the movie doesn’t. for that alone it’s a 10/10
there are definitely things they could’ve improved on: alex is Not an only child and i think having his sister in the movie was more important than having their best friend. henry’s father dying should have been explored a Bit more in that we should have gotten to know the depth of his grief better. in my opinion they rushed that part of his character. also! the emails! they missed THEE most important one from alex and that kinda made me 🫥 like how do you make a movie abt alex and henry loving each other without including the incomplete list of things alex loves about henry… and whatever accent alex’s mom jas got going on threw me off big time.
but putting that stuff aside, it’s good!! i was very pleasantly surprised! i think the best thing to do is to view the book and the movie as two separate things. feels like the movie is loosely based on the book rather than an adaptation. for what it is, i thoroughly enjoyed it <3
