Can you see John being all “duty and family first”, while Rudy was basically a party animal, always trying to make John loosen up. He was supposedly one to keep John in line but it was actually other way around. Or is it just me?

- “ What? I assumed that's why you lived on an island. You spent as much time on the Ohio river as you did on dry land.”

- “I... I... I stopped right about the time I left Cincinnati.”

It was definitly important. IMO he was sailing to escape experiances/things he had done in the camps but after he left he couldn’t sail anymore cos instead of helping, it started to remind him of Cincinnati so he stopped. And of course Helen knows all about it cos John confides in her.
