t'was inspired and I did a bunch of these for fun but I am posting this one in particular because it’s so funny to me that this barely even constitutes as a ship for me because neither of them exactly love each other like I couldn't even say one-sided for the tropes because yuri's feelings are too complicated to define as love or affection. I think if they ever attempted to develop a relationship they could at best only ever be mega advanced levels of situationship and they'd come out of it traumatized

Two Golden Rings, Chapter 1: Engaged

Yuri sighed as he looked out the window at the sunset. He had recently gotten engaged to a very sweet boy named Yuya, but he was starting to have second thoughts. This was the second time the cabbage-head had gotten engaged, and he couldn’t stop thinking about how his previous engagement had ended very badly. Every partner he’d ever had turned out to be a gold digger.

Yuri was an incredibly wealthy orphan, so wealthy that he was in the top 1% of the country’s population. He’d always spoiled his partners with luxurious gifts, but his partners had always turned out to be with him only for his money. By the time he and Yuya started their relationship, the cabbage had just been so tired of all the gold-diggers. He didn’t spoil Yuya nearly as much as he spoiled his previous partners.

But… Yuya did seem to be different. As Yuri thought back on their relationship, it occurred to him that his tomato-haired fiance had never asked him to pay for anything, or buy things for him, or anything that his gold-digging exes had asked for. Yuya pretty much always paid for his own stuff, unless Yuri was feeling generous and offered to pay for him.

Was it possible that Yuya really loved him for him, instead of for his money? Yuri tried to squash the spark of hope he was feeling. It would not do for him to get his hopes up again, only for them to be crushed once more.

There was one way Yuri might be able to determine the truth. The very thing that had ended his previous engagement. When Yuri was engaged to his ex-fiance, he’d asked her to sign a prenup to protect his assets in the event of a divorce. His ex had thrown a tantrum at the suggestion, not wanting to risk walking away empty-handed if they ended up divorced. They’d had a nasty fight, and in the end Yuri had broken off the engagement.

If Yuya really was with him for his money, he’d likely be upset about the idea of a prenup. But if he truly loved Yuri for him, then he’d most likely accept the prenup.

Yuri’s phone rang, startling him out of his reverie. It was Yuya. Yuri answered the call immediately. “Good evening, Yuya!”

“Good evening, Yuri!” Yuya said. “Hey, will you have time to stop by my house tomorrow? I want to talk to you about something important regarding our engagement.”

Yuri’s heart sank. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Yuya was going to ask for a big, expensive wedding. Just like his ex-fiance had asked for before he suggested the prenup. “Yeah, I’ll come over. There’s something I wanted to talk to you about too.”

“Great!” Yuya sounded happy. “I’ll be home all day! See you tomorrow!”

Two Golden Rings, Chapter 5: Yuri's Great Love

Yuri was in a great mood as he left the theater that Yuya worked in to head back to his own job. He had the best fiance in the world, and he really wanted to show him off to the world. Luckily he had photos of Yuya to share with his co-workers.

“Well, someone’s in a good mood!” his co-worker Dennis said when Yuri walked into the office. Yuri replied, “Oh, yes, I just visited my beautiful fiance at work and got him his favorite tea. He’s the sweetest boy in the world!”

“Wait, you’re engaged?” one of his other co-workers asked, surprised. “Who’s your fiance?”

Yuri pulled out his phone and pulled up a selfie he’d taken with Yuya before he’d left the theater. “This cute little tomato-head is my lovely, sweet fiance!”

His curious co-workers gathered round to see the photo. Most of them had assumed that Yuri had no interest in dating, much less getting married. Seeing the photo of him and his fiance was surprising to most of them.

Dennis, who was one of the only people who had known about Yuri’s relationship, smiled at Yuri. “You two look so happy together! Even more than in the photo of you two right after you proposed!”

“Mhm!” Yuri hummed. “You know how all my previous partners were gold-diggers and even my ex-fiance was only after my money, and how she threw a tantrum when I asked for a prenup because she wanted to take half my money and assets if we divorced, right?”

“Yeah, I remember that!” Dennis agreed. “She threw a bunch of stuff and broke some of it until you threatened to call the police. It was a good thing you asked me to be there as a witness, just in case!”

“Yes, and I’d never been able to shake the feeling that everyone I would ever be in a relationship with would only want me for my money,” Yuri said. “Even though Yuya never asked for money or asked me to pay for anything, and almost always paid for all of our dates, there was always that little voice saying he only wanted my money. I was going to ask him for a prenup, but then yesterday he asked for one, and that’s when I realized he really does love me for me, not my money.”

“Aw! That’s so sweet! I’m glad you were able to finally find someone who really loves you and isn’t just after your money!” Dennis said.  “I hope you two are very happy together! And you better invite me to the wedding!”

Yuri chuckled. “Dennis, you’re my best friend. If you aren’t my best man, I’ll disown you!” he joked.

Their coworkers were all very fascinated with all this lore they were learning about Yuri. None of them had known anything about the cabbage-head’s romantic history, so hearing about his struggles with finding love made him seem a bit more… human.
