I went for a walk with my mamma earlier today at rosaryville state park and it was Nice and then i came home and decided to make a smoothie and put some spinach in it bc im like, ok, i started my day off with a Healthy Choice like going for a walk, so I’m gonna keep it up and eat something halfway good for me. 

So I put some frozen peach slices and strawberries and blueberries and banana chunks in the blender with a lil bit of juice and chia seeds and the Worlds Smallest Handfull of spinach 

but I feel so :( :( because every time I make a smoothie and put veggies in it, I wind up only eating like maybe 30% of the smoothie bc the slight leafy taste winds up fucking with my brain enough that I start to feel queasy after a short while. :(

Life/running updates:

It’s a super long story, but the short version is that five days before my ultra I started having some very concerning heart/circulation/??? problems, and at this point it is unclear what’s going on with my health. It’s really scary, and I hope I can get some answers soon.

Longer version below-

I went to urgent care last Tuesday, and my blood pressure was 164/111 and my resting HR was over 100. I was also having pain, numbness, and tingling in my left arm. They did some basic bloodwork (normal), an EKG (normal), and sent me to a radiologist for a venous ultrasound of my left arm (no clots). I was told to rest, decrease my sodium consumption, monitor my blood pressure at home, and follow up with my PCP. 

Over the weekend, I started experiencing extreme fatigue and light headedness (I even had to sit down for a bit while grocery shopping), as well as pain in my back and neck and intermittent chest discomfort. My BP and HR were still elevated, but I had no fever or other signs of infection.

I saw my PCP yesterday, and she was very concerned by the elevated BP and HR readings. They did another EKG (still normal) and took a bunch of blood to test my liver, kidney, and thyroid function as well as vitamin/mineral/electrolyte levels. I should hopefully get the results back tomorrow or monday at the latest. In the meantime, she gave me a prescription for a medication to lower my BP and HR, and a referral to a cardiologist (Monday morning) for an echocardiogram and maybe some other heart studies as well.

It’s been a scary time. I’m just so grateful that I have wonderful health insurance through the NIH, an understanding advisor who has told me to take as much time away as I need, access to doctors who can see me in a timely manner, and above all a loving and supportive partner who has been by my side.

i’m somebody who spends a slightly above average amount of time in natural/wilderness areas, and I’ve still never encountered a venomous snake! Or any dangerous animal, for that matter!

I’ve come across:

black rat snakes

northern black racers

dekay’s brown snakes

I’ve even come across some sort of thread snake or blind snake

probably the most hazardous animal i ever came across was at rosaryville state park in MD where the forest is HELLA DENSE and while rounding a corner on a trail, i scared the FUCK out of a white tailed deer that was only about 15 feet away from me and it kinda spazzed around before deciding which direction to run off in, and i was keenly aware that it could seriously maim me if it decided to fight instead of flight 

but nope nope nope, never seen any vipers anywhere, ever.
