Panam and Romy have a weird kind of friendship. They're total opposites, but both on the outer dregs of the family hierarchy. Panam for her red-hot temper and free spirit, and Romy because she's just kind of weird and off-putting. They don't always understand each other, but they have each others' backs, even after the clan moves on and Romy stays behind in Night City.

I gave Romy the storyline I thought Panam would have when I first played through the game - someone rejected by their family who learns to make their own way. The other Aldecaldos don't mistreat Romy by any means, she just never quite fit. There's plenty of love between them, but it takes more than love to make a happy home. She knows she's always welcome around the campfire, but life on the road just isn't for her.

Besides, tinkering with bots is easier when she's not having to constantly blast sand out of their gears.
