#rings of power for me is in the frustrating category of 'it would be SO GOOD if it was GOOD'

After watching the new episodes of rings of power, I was honestly a bit… disappointed. Don’t get me wrong I liked it! (and have high hopes for the rest of the season) But I also liked the last season and it felt like they had improved on some things and other things (cough writing cough pacing) not at all. HOWEVER, a huge improvement for me was Gil Galad and I am now completely sold on him. I’m not even sure what the change is, maybe simply just more screen time, but he feels like a new character, and I’m super excited to see him through the next seasons!! Nothing substantial to say here just wanted to rant about rings of power lol
Also Adar is the sexiest character on the show…
Take my opinions with a grain of salt because I have only seen ep 1-2 so far, but I do agree. I raised my expectations a bit for season 2 (and I'm still holding out tentative hope and my expectations remain high for the eregion plot, because it seems like the strongest one out of all of them. Partially just for Charlie and Charlie's performances and chemistry!), but I lowered them right back down. I love the show! It's enjoyable to watch. But really I enjoy it the way I enjoy some soft-serve ice cream or a light novel, you know? I'm pretty gentle with it. The trouble with it is that when it's good, it's really good, but when it's bad it's really bad and there's no in-between.
That being said there have been some noticeable improvements! I'm really happy to see that the worldbuilding has filled out, and that the costuming and hair/makeup departments seem to have gotten more time and budget. The costumes are fire this season! It also seems they consulted some language experts in between seasons (ignoring the Mirdania name kerfuffle...), because the elves are now speaking Sindarin, which is a massive fix which just should not have even been a problem in the first place. And yeah, Gil-Galad is much more dynamic and complex. I think part of that is that Ben seems a little less stiff in his performance. For some reason more of his natural charisma is coming through that I felt was missing in S1. It helps, I think, that we have more scenes with him -- and especially more scenes of him interacting with Galadriel. Ben and Morfydd have such great screen chemistry, and it felt like their scenes together had some of the best script writing overall (aside from the Charlie and Charlie scenes -- but honestly Charlie and Charlie could carry even an incredibly disastrous script on their backs and make it enjoyable, I think).
Adar was a character I was very fond with in S1, but I'm insane about him in S2. He's so fucking good. I love what they're doing with him.
#rings of power critical#rings of power for me is in the frustrating category of 'it would be SO GOOD if it was GOOD'#love the show. will happily support it. it's good fun. but I do not think it's 'good' -- and that's okay! not everything has to be#as long as they continue to get Elrond and Celebrimbor right I'm content#i'm so grateful it has such an amazing cast because they really do carry it so far#it would be unwatchable if the cast was mid imo

I Thee Wed…
Premise: Ethan and Cassie are ready to say, ‘I do,’ but they forget one important step.
Book: Open Heart (post series) Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Cassie Valentine) Rating/Category: Teen. Fluff. Words: 1,560
A/N: So, I first did Ethan and Cassie's wedding in June 2021. In all that time, I've never written their wedding vows. Maxenna's vows were easier to write. Well, I finally cracked this nut! Yay, me 🎉
Submission for @choicesaugustchallenge prompt "summer wedding"
Cassie Valentine updated the patient chart and mentally crossed off another item from her seemingly endless to-do list. In just nine days, she would stand in the garden of her family home and marry her soulmate.
She couldn’t contain a small, excited scream, a dreamy smile spreading across her face as she imagined Ethan’s awestruck expression when she glided toward him at the floral-decked altar. But, she thought with a smirk, she couldn’t wait to knock him over on their wedding night with what she had on beneath the layers of tulle.
All in good time, Cassie reasoned, turning her attention back to work.
“Marlene?” she called to one of the regular nurses on her floor, handing over the tablet with the patient record. “Keep an eye on potassium levels for Mr. Dubois in 504. Page me if there’s any change in his condition.”
“Will do, Dr. Valentine,” Marlene nodded, scanning the chart quickly to confirm the orders.
She flashed Cassie a friendly smile. “Are you excited about the wedding? You and Dr. Ramsey make such a beautiful couple.”
“I’m counting the minutes,” Cassie grinned. “I have a final fitting for the dress next week, but otherwise, we’re all set.”
“Summer weddings are the best,” another nurse piped in. “Flowers are my favorite part.”
“I love hearing the couple’s vows,” Marlene said. “Are you and Dr. Ramsey writing your own?”
Cassie nodded in response, keeping her expression smooth even as alarm bells blared inside her head. Crap, crap, crap!
Between work, packing up her things at the apartment for the move to Ethan’s and coordinating with Sienna and her mom on the wedding, she had forgotten entirely about the vows.
She and Ethan had negotiated a hybrid ceremony, honoring her Episcopalian beliefs and his agnostic ones. He had agreed to have a priest officiate and receive a spiritual blessing in exchange for non-religious but personal vows, no Communion, hymns or readings.
Writing their own vows had sounded so simple before. A few words of promise, a declaration of their love, exchange rings and you-may-kiss-the-bride. End scene.
But now she realized it was anything but easy. Worse, she had no idea what she would say on the most important day of her life!
The pen dug into the paper, leaving dark, jagged lines on the legal pad as Ethan scratched out yet another sentence. His handwriting, usually neat and precise despite the doctor-like scrawl, had turned into a chaotic mess of crossed-out words and half-formed thoughts. Frustration simmered in his chest, his mind spinning as he tried to wrestle his emotions into something coherent.
He sighed, leaned back in his chair, and rubbed his temple. Sitting through a room full of demanding board members was a walk in the park compared to this. How was he supposed to find the words powerful enough to capture the depth of what he felt for Cassie?
Each attempt felt clumsy and inadequate, the words slipping away from him no matter how hard he tried. Irritated with himself, he muttered a curse under his breath, tearing the paper from the pad and crumpling it into a tight ball. It joined the other pieces of crumpled paper balls scattered around him.
Why had he insisted on their own vows? Should’ve just taken a template and been done with it.
He had been working on them all week and was no closer to the finish line. He had tried writing at home, in his office with the door closed and on a bench in the serenity garden at Edenbrook. Eventually, he retreated to Derry’s Coffee Shop in the hope that a place special to them both would inspire him.
The wedding was a week away, and he did not relish the idea of standing at the altar with nothing more to say than “I do” while Cassie no doubt recited something meaningful about him being her soulmate.
“Tough case?”
Startled, Ethan looked up to find Cassie standing above him.
He had been so absorbed in his frustrated scribbling that he hadn’t even noticed her enter the coffee shop, place her order and walk over to him.
“You could say that,” he hedged, hoping she wouldn’t press for more.
“Maybe I can help,” she suggested, sliding into the seat across from him.
Before he could stop her, she reached for the pad, and he blurted out, “No!” even as she read the words out loud.
“Cassie, my love for you is like an unspecified virus that I couldn’t shake….”
Ethan saw the look of shock on Cassie’s face. Her eyes widened, and her mouth opened slightly. For a moment, they just stared at each other in stunned silence.
“Wait, are these your wedding vows? And did you just compare me to a virus?”
Ethan quickly tried to recover, realizing how the words sounded when said aloud. “I—I didn’t mean it like that. What I’m trying to say is that my love for you is something I never expected, something that took hold of me and changed everything.”
Cassie blinked, and then, to his relief, a smile tugged at the corners of her lips. “Babe, I appreciate the on-brand medical analogy, especially since I diagnosed Naveen’s bacteriophage, but maybe we can find a less…clinical way to describe it? This is our wedding, after all, not a keynote at the AMA annual symposium.”
“A keynote at the AMA would be easier than these damn vows,” Ethan muttered, running an exasperated hand through his hair.
He picked up his coffee and looked at her over the rim. “I suppose you’ve already written a masterpiece?”
To his surprise, Cassie blushed and looked away. “Not exactly. If you must know, I kind of forgot about them.”
She waved one hand dismissively. “Anyway, this isn’t about me. If you’re struggling, just focus on us, our relationship—what makes me the one for you? How you see our life together. Things like that.”
Ethan narrowed his eyes. “That’s some solid advice.” He reached for his phone, unlocking the screen. “In fact, it’s almost identical to the advice I got from another Valentine just a couple of hours ago. Ah, here it is.” He turned the screen to show her the text from Max.
Cassie’s eyes widened in disbelief. “That cheat!” She snatched the phone from Ethan’s hand, scrolling up to check the time stamp. It was from earlier in the day before she’d texted her brother. “He totally copy-pasted his response to me!”
Ethan chuckled, leaning back in his chair. “Looks like great minds think alike…or at least steal from each other. When did you speak to him?”
Cassie gave him a sheepish look. “Maybe half an hour ago. ”
“Isn’t it the middle of the night where he is?”
She rolled her eyes and made a face. “I know. Max wasn’t thrilled, which is probably why I ended up with recycled advice.”
She straightened in her chair, a hint of frustration in her voice. “I can’t seem to find the right words for our vows. At least you managed to compare me to a virus—I’ve got a completely blank page.”
Ethan chuckled softly, reaching across the table to squeeze her hand gently. “How about we work on them together? We always did our best work figuring out diagnostic differentials as a team. Why should wedding vows be any different?”
Cassie’s smile widened. “Just promise you won’t tell my mother this is how we wrote our vows, or I’ll have to call you a big, fat liar!”
“Deal.”
Nine days later…
Ethan faced Cassie, a deep contentment settling over him, unlike anything he’d ever felt before. As he held her hands in his, the words that once eluded him now flowed as naturally as breathing.
“Cassie, when I first met you, I had no idea we’d end up here, but from that moment on, you’ve captivated me in ways I never imagined. You’ve challenged me, frustrated me and inspired me to be a better person. And I've fallen in love with you again and again, even though I didn’t believe love or family were in the cards for me. You opened my heart to more. I promise to support and encourage you, embrace the unexpected with you, and always work on being the best version of myself for you. I vow to hold your hand and cherish your heart, loving you always and forever.”
Cassie flashed a mischievous grin, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she held Ethan’s gaze, recalling the day they wrote these vows. Her voice was light and playful as she began, making it clear she was savoring every moment.
“Ethan, from the moment you walked into my life—full of arrogance, calling me an amateur—everything changed in ways I never could have predicted. I told you then I was your biggest fan, but that barely scratched the surface of my feelings for you. I can’t imagine a single day without you, and I hope I never do. I promise to stand by your side, to love you fiercely—even when you’re driving me a little crazy—and to choose you every day, no matter what. You are my partner, my soulmate and my greatest adventure. I vow to cherish your heart with all that I am, always and forever.”
And then they lived happily ever after…

I am so excited that you are taking requests. If it strikes you could you do a drabble where Geordi and Data get to give each other the classic side eye because of someone else (could be in a meeting, working in engineering or while out exploring). I just love when they give each other that look of 'can you believe what is happening here?'
"Hey, Data. You alright?"
"Emotionally, I am not experiencing anything that could be deemed the opposite, however also not what might fall into the category of-"
Geordi interrupted him with a loud sigh. "Just say you're fine."
Data nodded. "Then I am fine."
The Engineer shook his head in exasperation. He certainly wasn't annoyed by it - he'd been dealing with his friend's shenanigans for too long for that by now - but it absolutely could become a means for raised eyebrows every now and then. He never really seemed to be able to grasp the concept of what that sort of question was actually looking for in a response.
"Alright, you got that report?"
"Yes, I have completed it as you requested."
"Thank you..."
"The Turbolift doors opened just beside them, exited by 2 ensigns before they closed once again as the lift travelled elsewhere.
For whatever reason, they chose to hang around nearby, talking quietly amongst themselves. Geordi couldn't necessarily berate them for dawdling, as he was aware that their shifts didn't start for another twenty minutes or so, however he would rather they stood a little farther out of the way.
"...yeah, and then he told me to piss off."
"Well, did you?"
Choosing to try to focus on the task at hand, he attempted to white noise their conversation. He couldn't tell whether or not Data was interested, although the android tilted his head ever so slightly.
"No! I told him that if I found out he was messing around with her I'd take the ring back and leave. That thing's been in my family for years."
"Well, why'd you give it to him in the first place?"
"I thought he was the one, you know? Stupid daydreams like that..."
Ignoring the precarious topic of conversation right behind him, Geordi placed the PADD down and bit his lip.
He turned to Data with a frustrated groan. "Man, it's gonna take days to fix that. I mean, it won't affect the power too badly, but..."
Data's gaze lost focus on him, staring over his shoulder instead with interest. Geordi turned around.
"You did what?"
"I kicked his cat. She was a little bastard, anyway. I mean, look at this scratch-"
He twisted slowly back round, meeting Data's equally bewildered look, as if to ask the other what the hell they each just heard. Shaking his head for perhaps the second time that day, Geordi diverted his attention back to the task at hand.
"So uhm...that report..."
"I have given you the report already, Geordi," Data said, a concerned expression upon his face.
"Right."

Excerpt:
“Her heart stopped. Primer, Boost, get over here and help!” Volte started pumping on her chest, compressing her blood for her since her heart had quit its job. “Boost, you watch the bleeding on her abdomen. It’s going to need reinforcement. Primer, you get over here, give her a breath when I tell you to.” Volte kept up the compressions, suddenly stopping at his count of thirty and barked “Two breaths now Primer!” He watched for chest rise critically and then immediately resumed compressions. Volte did another round, ordering Primer to breathe for her again once more, then he checked for a pulse. This went on for a good ten minutes - compressions, breathe, compressions, breathe, check pulse. Finally, her heart started beating on its own, and she was breathing, albeit shallowly. He sat back on his haunches, watching her, making sure she kept breathing. Dank ferrick, she was so pale. He may not have a choice about the blood transfusion if she was going to make it.
Primer watched Volte critically and finally asked “Well, do we need to do something else? What do we need to do, Volte?” He felt frustrated, terrified and angry. At himself, at this Lord Sideous that had given the order to kill Lara. He couldn’t bring himself to think about what he would do if she died because of their actions. He was so wound up, he was about ready to throttle Volte for not having the answers to his questions. He saw Volte look at him with slightly wild, frightened eyes.
“She needs blood, Primer. I didn’t want to try it because we are human and she’s… whatever she is. I was afraid our blood wouldn’t match and that can kill her just as fast as bleeding to death.” He took a deep steadying breath. “I don’t think we can deny it to her now. We’ve got to try something.”
Primer looked at his medic, realizing the truth of his words. He was stuck between his own personal knowledge of the General, and the rumors that had always surrounded her existence. Few knew for a fact that she was immortal, a true goddess. He struggled to believe she would actually die on them, though she gave every appearance of trying very hard at the moment. If she was as powerful as he’d always been led to believe by Cody, Echo and Fives, and Rex, then surely her body would be able to handle the blood donation from a clone. Primer took a deep breath, and said “I’ll do it Volte. Hook up whatever you need to, and I’ll give her the blood. If something happens, it’ll be my problem and no one else’s.” Besides, he’d made promises to Rex he had to keep; though more often he kept those promises for himself. He had to at least try for Lara’s sake; he couldn’t lose her.
Volte nodded quickly and grabbed Primer’s hand, placing the fingertips on her carotid artery. “If you feel the pulse stop, start compressions. The compressions are the most important part.”
Volte scuttled over to his pack quickly, dumping it upside down to find the contents he needed. He was in too big of a hurry to dig for stuff blindly. He called over to Boost, who was still holding pressure on her bandages. “Boost, how is the bleeding?”
“The bandages are getting soaked; she’s bleeding through. Want me to change them?” Boost looked up at the medic, his eyes full of anxiety. He wasn’t sure how exactly but he wanted to help as best he could.
“No, here.” Volte tossed more gauze packs at him. “Reinforce what you have there. Keep the pressure on.”
Volte continuing digging through the pile of supplies, looking for an IV spike and some venous catheters. He really needed another set of hands. Someone would need to take over for Primer if he was going to be the donor. There was a small crowd of clones growing on the periphery of their impromptu surgical area. Glancing up, Volte saw two men he knew had some extra medical training, cutting through the group of concerned men. He felt a surge of relief. “Turk, Dorian! Get over here. Y’all take over the CPR on the General if she needs it.” The two clones nodded without a word and moved to her side. Primer got up and moved to her other side, as Volte found the equipment he needed and stumbled back to Primer. Primer quickly took off the gauntlet and bicep guard on his left arm, rolling up the sleeve of his body glove for access to his veins. Volte tied a tourniquet on hurriedly, giving Primer’s veins time to build up a little stasis. The medic quickly cleaned Primer’s arm with a disinfectant, then reached back to insert the small cannula into a vein. He’d already connected tubing to the cannula, and with one hand he opened a small clamp to allow blood to flow back into it. He left the tubing down, to allow the blood to flow by gravity into a bag, and secured the tubing to Primer’s arm to stabilize it. As soon as he got some volume into the bag, he spiked another port on the bag with filtered tubing. Volte reached over and cleaned Lara’s arm quickly, then tied another tourniquet on her bicep, popping the skin to try and raise a vein. They were all very flat; she had bled so much. He was going to have to fish for a vein. Grasping the IV catheter, he delicately inserted it beneath her skin, going for a vessel that was at least visible and feeling for the exterior wall of the lumen. As carefully as he could, he felt his way with the tip of the catheter and felt the tissue give a faint pop when it went through the wall of the vein. Volte clicked the mechanism to withdraw the needle; he saw blood well back through the catheter and sighed in relief. He’d gotten it in with one try. Volte popped the tourniquet, attaching the tubing to the catheter now in her arm. He quickly allowed blood to start flowing through the filter tubing to the General. Volte secured the tubing to Lara’s arm as well; he dropped the level of the bag to take blood from Primer and then, clamping it off, he raised it above his head and unclamped Lara’s side of the tubing, allowing it to flow into her.
Volte couldn’t take too much of Primer’s blood at one time, but he kept track of the amount as closely as he could. He pulled two units, about six to seven hundred milliliters out, giving it to the General. While he was completing the transfusion, he heard Turk say to Dorian “Pulse stopped - start compressions Dorian.” Turk’s eyes flicked to Volte’s quickly as Dorian started pumping on Lara’s chest again, working to get the blood flowing that the medic was rushing to give her. Volte lightly compressed the bag, working to administer it faster. Dorian counted off his compressions just like the General had taught them, and when he got to thirty he stopped to allow Turk to give her two breaths. Dorian rolled right back into compressions as soon as the breaths were in. He didn’t stop until he got to thirty again. Turk gave her another couple of breaths and then checked for a pulse. “I’ve got a pulse. And… she’s breathing. Okay. We’re okay.” Turk spoke it more to himself, as if for reassurance.
Primer watched with a helpless feeling. She’d trained them for just about every scenario she could think of, but it was always to save themselves, to help their fellow clones. Lara had never imparted any education on how to save herself. She’d never considered that her own men would betray her. Volte finished pushing the donated blood into the General, then clamped the tubing off. He fiddled in this bag for a little package containing a small cap, and when he removed the tubing from her arm, he placed the cap over the catheter instead, to keep access to her vein. Volte reached over and removed the tubing and IV access from Primer’s arm, giving him a tiny piece of gauze to cover the site. “Volte, is she going to make it?” Primer was afraid to ask, but he had to know.
The medic leaned over her, placing his hand on her carotid pulse, then laying it gently over her chest. He could feel her heartbeat; it felt steady and stronger this time. She was breathing; it was regular and not ragged or shallow. He was afraid to hope much, but he felt there was a chance. As long as she didn’t reject the blood transfusion. “LT we will just have to give her time. If she doesn’t have a transfusion reaction, then it should help her. And if needed we will know we can give her more if she doesn’t have issues and keeps bleeding. But I think the next steps are going to be completely up to her.” Volte got fresh bandages from his bag and reached over to Boost. “Let me change them now, and somebody is going to need to give up their shirt to tie on a pressure dressing.”

So, Star Trek: Resurgence.
If you've played a Telltale game, you've played Resurgence. It technically has slightly more Gameplay than the old telltale games, with shooting sequences, stealth bits, fly-the-ship-through-the-rings bits, and a few other minigames involving the transporter and the tricorder, but frankly, they're all pretty forgettable. The core gameplay loop of Resurgence is talking to people and making tough calls, and everything else is kind of a distraction from that. I frankly would have enjoyed my time with the game more if it had stuck to oldschool Telltale-style gameplay that's just a series of QTEs. The bits where you have to walk places and do things just slow down progression, and you move and control painfully slowly and awkwardly.
As far as the story itself, well, I would definitely put it solidly in the C-tier category for Trek stories. It is very much patterned after a Trek movie rather than a Trek TV show. Things start off promisingly enough with a dispute between two rubber forehead alien species. Species A has been working a dilithium mine on their own planet for Species B for a couple centuries. And, of course, the Federation buys dilithium from Species B. So, you know, tense diplomatic situation, power imbalances, labor rights, pragmatism vs. idealism, cool cool cool. Yeah, that shit gets chucked out the window at the end of the first act in favor of Another Galactic Threat. Oy. I'm so tired of Galactic Threats.
You technically play as two characters, the new first officer of the Resolute and one of her engineering grunts, so it's interesting seeing both sides of the Starfleet coin - senior staff and lower decks. Calls you make on the bridge affect what you have to do in engineering at times, which makes the narrative hang together nicely. A lot of the actual dialogue between characters, and the choices you make there, basically do break down to "favor character A over character B" and depending on how many times you skew in one direction or another it'll change some minor story beats later in terms of what fixed events happen to which characters. Like, ho hum, guys, we know that Telltale games don't actually let you radically change the story, just swap details around, but this one wasn't even that particularly inspired. I have gone through the trophy list rather than playing the game again with different choices, and let me tell you, nothing in this game stacks up to the end of the second Telltale Batman game in terms of actually changing how things play out.
There are some great moments where you get to tell people to execute evasive maneuvers or fire the photon torpedoes, and you get to pick which thing your first officer says when you order the ship to warp (I went with "make way"), but overall... eh. $40 was a bit much for this game. I do not regret it, though. I am tired of Star Trek Online being the Only Star Trek Game. I want more Star Trek Games. We're getting one with Star Trek Infinite later this year or next from Paradox, but dammit, I want another Bridge Commander. I want another Elite Force. I want more quality Star Trek single-player games, so I voted with my wallet.
Last note: this game is pretty buggy, at least on PS5. A solid 15-20% of the subtitles don't match the spoken dialogue at all, which is frustrating. When I first started playing at launch, sometimes voice lines would also cut off in the middle, though I noticed none of that when I picked it up again a few weeks later after life got busy, so I assume there was an update. But, like, come on. It's a Star Trek game. There has never been a non-buggy Star Trek game. This is old hat for us.
I'm not a professional game reviewer obliged to give a letter or number score, so I'll just go the Steam route and say: do I recommend this game? Yes, if you like Telltale-style games and don't mind a little bit of bad shooting/stealth gameplay that feels like it's from 15 years ago, and probably you should also like Star Trek too.
So, you know... get it on sale.

Oh, no one but the trio can actually play this monstrosity. Trust me, they’re trying. Like Danny, Sam, and Tucker play it a lot and people notice. But the game itself sound like gibberish and every time someone asks about it, the trio Never even get done explaining the rules before that person backs out again. Even the gaming club gave up learning it so people just refer to it as ‘that weird game they play that no one knows how to do.’
And at first it was fine, it was their ‘nerd thing’ until someone saw Phantom with a card or playing with them. Now everyone wants to learn but they can’t. Figure. It. Out! It’s driving the A-listers mad.
(I’m all for the trope of Amity Parkers being above average at stuff to the world but I think there’s not enough of this trio specifically being the odd ones out. I need more content of this.)
Mr Lancer has no idea how to feel. On one hand, people are distracted and not doing their homework as much. On the other hand, he has never had so many people interested in his Latin Class. The grades have never been higher.
As for the justice League? It’s even worse. They don’t even have the advantage of knowing the cards or the rules. The strange glowing teenager just disappears after beating his opponent. They can never contact him (and no one wants to distract him in the middle of his game with planet destroying entities). Batman has been cataloging every card used and any rules or patterns displayed in the game. Which would be easier if they actually knew what the players were saying. It’s using 4 languages and the Justice league are going to be so confused and catch like, every third word. Like GIW, ghost getter 1, or fruitloop. Batman is forcing the lanterns to help use their rings to translate but it’s still frustrating (especially the last language. Ghost speak.) So far, all he’s managed to figure out is that there are 3 categories for cards. Beings, Items, and Effects. And then those have subcategories like Being = ghost, human, halfa. Item = artifact and gadgets. Effect = power, spell, character effect, permanent effect, and area effect. And then those cards have sub categories. (Why do the ghost have a hierarchy? Why are some humans enemies that they will attack each other even when on the same team? Why do the ghosts have so many powers you have to roll a dice to choose which one they can use per turn? WHY ARE THERE SO MANY EFFECTS!?) and that’s only the cards themselves. The game seems to be focused on either destroying this portal thing (which all beings have to come on the fields starting at the location of the portal) OR they have to capture every ghost in those thermos things. Only the ghosts, beings, portals, and thermoses keep moving. The power levels of the ghosts and humans can be enhanced with gadgets and artifacts if given enough time or have weird special abilities. And the things and the thermoses can be released if the opponent catches them only they are literally cylinders where you write the name of the card on paper and put them in so with all the thermoses being moved each turn (like chess), you might not remember which thermos had which card?! The ‘graveyard’ is just treated as an extra deck and is where all ghosts originate. Batman is pretty sure the rhunes on the board have some sort of pattern because choosing the placement of the card on which rhune means whether you can attack. Be attacked. Or randomly jump to a new location if it activates a new portal. (Natural portals?) there is a board with a spinner on it like twister to choose where you jump to. (Actually there are 4 spinners and each makes the spin more specific. One is for board location. The second for line location. The third for rune location. And the final for if you have to spin all of them again next turn and jump to a new location or not.)
It’s like the game was designed to drag on for days. Which, technically, it was. Each game will take hours at the very least. Not only to make the opponent give up but so if Danny ever lost, it bought time for earth to build a counter attack and plan. Like imagine a chess game where all the opponent does is run away. Or they get displaced randomly by natural portals. And then add defense spells and attacks to making destroying/capturing cards difficult when you finally catch up. And THEN add dodging so some attacks might not even hit and the character can move out of range again next turn. The game just. Keeps. Going. (Danny is absolutely going to use this strategy against Trigon. Like, he wins? But Trigon is going to be so frustrated by the end of it. Only he won’t be able to do anything.)
Also, here’s the board.
Just imagine that in each white line are tiny black runes that dot the path.
It is a game designed to confuse the opponent. To wear on the soul. Just reading the rule book and learning the necessary languages can take a few days let alone playing the game itself. It’s a slow, agonizing, suffering. Which is why Danny decided to name the game Hell.
But Anyways, back to Batman. He is cataloging everything and trying so hard to figure this game out. But the only people who ever seem to know the rules are the ones attacking earth (plus the entirety of Amity even if they don’t understand it.) and every game doesn’t always use the same cards. (Because come on. Have you every played magic or Pokémon or any card game 2 times in a row and drawn the exact same cards? Unless you had a card to specifically search for them?) So Batman doesn’t even have all the information when trying to put together a mock game.
Not to mention the EXPANSIONS THEY KEEP ADDING!
If he wasn't batman, he probbaly would have cried at this point.
And in Amity? The teens are losing their minds. They can’t even finish one game. Danny, Tucker, and Sam have a system that allows them to remember where they left off so they’ve just been chipping at each game throughout the day. Also, none of the other teens are advanced enough in the game to learn multiplayer so most of their games are between themselves. Plus, no one else is actually a challenge.
So the Justice league is losing it’s mind. Amity is losing it’s mind. Basically the only people actually enjoying the game are it’s creators and the ghosts. Hell has become pretty popular in the ghosts zone for those with too much time on their hands. (And most ghosts have been collecting their individual cards.)
DP x DC: The Most Dangerous Card Game
Ok so Danny has essentially claimed earth as his. And he is fully aware that there are constant threats to the planet. Now he can’t stop a threat that originates on earth (that’s something he’ll leave to the Justice league) but he can do something about outside threats. Doing some research on ancient spells, rituals, and artifacts, he cast a world wide barrier on the planet to protect it from hostile threats so they cannot enter. This will prevent another Pariah Dark incident. However, barriers like this come at a price. You see, there are two ways to make a barrier. Either make one powered up by your own energy and power (which would be constantly draining) or set up a barrier with rules. The way magic works is that nothing can be absolutely indestructible. It must have a weakness. The most powerful barriers weren’t the ones reinforced with layer after layer of protective charms and buffed up with power. Those could eventually be destroyed either by being overpowered, wearing them down, or by cutting off the original power source. No, the most powerful barriers were the ones with a deliberate weakness. A barrier indestructible except for one spot. A cage that can only be opened from the outside. Or that can only be passed with a key or by solving a riddle. So Danny chooses this type of barrier and does the necessary ritual and pours in enough power to make it. And he adds his condition for anyone to enter.
Now the Justice league? Find out about the barrier when Trigon attempts to attack, they were preparing after he threatened what he would do once he got to earth. How he would destroy them. The Justice league tried to take the fight to him first but were utterly destroyed, so they retreated home to tend to their injuries, and fortify earth for one. Last. Stand. Only when Trigon makes his big entrance…he’s stopped.
The Justice league watch in awe as this thin see-through barrier with beautiful green swirls and speckled white lights like stars apears blocking Trigon and his army’s advance. The barrier looks so thin and fragile yet no matter how hard the warlord hits, none of his attacks can get through and neither can he damage said barrier. That’s when Constantine and Zatanna recognizes what this barrier is. Something only a powerful entity could create. For a moment, the league is filled with hope that Trigon can’t get through yet Constantine also explains that it’s not impenetrable. And clearly Trigon knows this too for he calls out a challenge.
And that’s when, in a flash of light, a tiny glowing teenager appears. He looked absolutly minuscule compared to Trigon and yet practically glowed with power (this isn’t a King Danny AU though).
And that is when the conditions for passing the barrier are revealed. And the Justice realize that the only thing stopping Trigon and his army from decimating earth. The only way he can get through….is by beating this glowing teenager in a card game.
Not just any card game though. The most convoluted game Sam, Danny, and Tucker invented themselves. It’s like the infinite realms version of magic the gathering, combined with Pokémon, and chess. And Danny is the master. So sit down Trigon and let’s play.
(The most intense card game of the Justice league’s life).
After Danny wins, this happens a few more times with outer word beings and possibly even demons attempting to invade earth, yet none have been able to beat the mysterious teenager in a card game. Constantine might even take a crack at it and try to figure out how to play. He’s really bad though. Every time this happens, the Justice league worry that this might be the time the teenager looses. Yet every time, he wins (even if only barely).
Meanwhile, Danny, Sam, and Tucker have gotten addicted to the game and play it almost daily. Some teachers might seem them playing the game are are like ‘awww how cute’ not realizing this game is literally saving the world. Jazz is just happy they aren’t spending as much time on their screens playing Doomed.
#dcxdp#DPxDC#Danny makes a card game to save the world.#Technically he worded the ritual so that they had to ‘beat’ him as those are the most powerful barriers and most reliable.#keys can just get lost or stolen (like the one to Pariah’s Coffin)#A riddle would be useless once someone figured out the answer. Like how no one takes the sphynx seriously anymore.#(Sorry Tuck. But it’s true).#And there is NO WAY Danny is just leaving a hole open for anyone to pass through. No thank you!#So…beating him. But it’s not like Danny wanted to fight so…he edited the ritual a TINY bit. Card games are good. Much less painful too.#Danny Tucker and Sam made the most complicated card game they could imagine.#It’s based on their strategies for fighting ghosts. Capturing them in thermoses. And MUCH based on a on field battle strategy.#It often requires spontaneous thinking on the spot. So Danny? In his ELEMNT. It doubles as practice for his actual ghost battles too.#They had SO much fun making this.#Sam added an entire series of plant cards that act as traps and healing ointments and duds that just take up the field.#Tucker added legitimate hyroglyphics combined with Latin as well as English and ghost speak.#Yes. You actually have to speak that language to play. With proper pronunciation. (Amity Parker’s think the three are talking gibberish.)#I headcanon Sam and Tucker are fluent in Ghost.#Constantine WILL figure this game out SO HELP HIM!#Some of the cards also have combinations related to constellations either in name or placement on the board.#By the way the board is based on a Hexagonal summoning circle with Rhunes along the edges#And the placement of the cards on the board and on what rhune MATTERS.#Also the cards move disintegrate and have certain abilities. Think of Harry Potter Wizard Chess.#But they are normal when Danny plays at school. This is just for ✨effect✨ Against invaders.#Danny faces multiple opponents. He also halts alien invasions.#While Danny COULD stop crime on earth he’s not sure how to fight a normal human and hold back so he sticks to ghosts.#The Justice league are going crazy trying to figure out who this entity is and after deep research are convinced this is some sort of#Ancient being who has protected earth for millenia. They have paintings on ruins and everything.#Danny is not aware they think this.#Raven starts praying to Danny as if he is a god and wrangles the other Teen Titans into doing so as well. Danny is still unaware of this.#Danny is not a King or an ancient. Just a very VERY strong ghost.

Part Two of Oneiric Theater

IZ*ONE's Kwon Eunbi x Male Reader Smut
Categories: a lot of angry Eunbi, face-sitting, mommy kink, thighjo- yeah, just read the whole thing to know
Also written because of inspiration from this request
Merry Christmas! Here's Oneiric Theater Part Two. Hope you guys enjoy your Christmas and this queued scheduled piece.
It has been a week after the incident and you still haven't recovered from it. Not even a good helping of your favorite food or a thirteen-hour “nap” could help you feel any better about the situation you've gotten yourself into.
You have a bad feeling that the events would stay on your mind forever.
One day, you'll be eighty years old in a retirement home peeing your pants, having traumatic flashbacks of a pretty short-haired woman with an arrogant smirk.
Couldn't she have stolen some part of those memories instead?
You grumble to yourself, head in your hands. You have never hated someone more in your life.
Your hate would have been more intense if she weren't so pretty.
Why the hell is she so pretty by the way?
You throw your head back in frustration. Doing so causes you to hit it against the wall. "Gah! Son of a bitch!" The pain dulling the back of your head is an added tree log in the fireplace of your anger.
Massage your head in your hands and try to make sense of it all. But all that comes to mind are repeated questions:
Who really is Kwon Eunbi? How did she own that theater? How could she have these little powers of looking into people's minds and rob them of their life, dreams… everything?
And most importantly, how could she have done that to you?
You, out of all people? She must be kidding! How are you of any significance to a director who makes billions off of her films? You're just a guy who wanted to watch one of them worth his while!
Seriously, Kwon Eunbi, what the hell do you want from me?
How did you get into this cycle of cat and mouse with her? You don't remember, but you suspect that that's another memory she's stolen.
You wonder if she can read your mind right now even if you are far away from the Oneiric Theater. Maybe she's in her bedroom, laughing and kicking her feet in her sheets knowing she's got you wrapped around her little finger. She could be peeking through your memories as if she were scanning folders, shocked at its contents and laughing at the others.
You just want to tear your hair out. Fuck Kwon Eunbi! Figuratively and… literally?
Well, you did do so literally. And you enjoyed every second of it.
But for god's sake, she's your enemy! She's a selfish, greedy director who doesn't care about you at all! Why do you find her so attractive?
The sound of your phone ringing interrupts your thoughts. The screen lights up to a black screen with the red and green answer buttons, an unknown number flashed above them.
Weird. Nobody ever calls you.
Click the green button and press your phone to your ear. "Hello? Who is this?"
"Hi, sweetheart. Did you miss me?"
Oh.
Anger wraps your heart in its tight fist. You don't need to ask further to know who the caller is:
"Eunbi," you say spitefully. Grind your teeth together to handle the irritation overcoming your body right now. You should have expected this. "What do you want?"
She lets out an exaggerated sigh of boredom. "You promised Mommy you'd come visit her after a week, right?" she reminds you with a sickening sweet tone. You could tell she's twisting the telephone wire between her fingers as she speaks. "Did you really forget?"
"I didn't promise you anything. You just told me to do that."
"Ahh, so you do remember."
You don't respond. You are too overcome by anger to even mumble out an answer. You know that if you do, Eunbi might put more on your plate than you can chew.
"It's already 3:00, baby. I'm starting to miss you."
Why does the last statement sound so genuine to you? She really knows how to play with your emotions.
Swallowing a shuddering breath, you try to make your voice sound steady. "I can't visit you right now, Eunbi. I'm busy."
She giggles. "Aww, don't lie to me now. I know you're just having breakdown after breakdown on the couch. Really nice living room, by the way. Is that phone of yours a Samsung? Real cheap."
You almost scream. "Eunbi! What the hell!"
You look around the living room, hands tightening around the fabric of your sofa.
How the hell did she know that? Does she have stalkers hired to keep a hawk's eye on you? Did she magically put up CCTVs or something while you were asleep?
"Didn't I tell you that nothing bad would happen if you just didn't lie to me? You seem to keep forgetting that."
"I would have an easier time remembering things if you weren't a fucking mind reader!"
"But you remember what I told you," she points out once more. "Same place, 4:29 PM. If you're not here before that… oh, you wouldn't want to know the things I'd do to you."
±
Ridding yourself of all common sense, you have arrived at the Oneiric Theater again. Though the long ride in the the taxi has left more of a pain on your ass than your legs, they still feel like they've run a marathon when you finally reach Eunbi down the sidewalk.
You recognized her because of the gray dress. The sides of it hug her curves and are lined with black, cut just at the starts of her thighs.
Okay, fine, you recognized her because of her thighs.
But who cares? You're back in this fiasco with Ms. I Have Eyes Everywhere here and she still would not give you an explanation or at least a blunt answer to your various questions.
"Hey! I'm here! You owe me an explanation!"
"Oh my god, you just arrived and I'm already tired of you."
Today the director seems to have changed style. Gone is the pant suit and short hair from a week ago. What comes to replace it is a simple gray dress that is cut too high for decency, one that has round buttons running down the center and a lacy two-piece collar. Her short hair has grown to be able to hang below her shoulders. Two black ribbons grace both sides of her head.
Damn mommy. For a moment, you almost forget that this is the woman who ruined your life.
She turns to you with a smile that could break hearts from a mile away. "But since you're here now, come with me."
"Wait!"
She raises an eyebrow.
You suck in a deep breath. "Will you answer my questions?"
She taps her chin. "Hmmm, only after a few… drastic measures."
"What do you mean?"
"Like I said, come with me."
You do not trust her at all. Not after all she's done to you. What if she kills you this time? Or scam you into another frisky situation you wouldn't be able to fuck your way out anymore?
But as you watch her walk into the theater again, you realize you have no choice. Whatever you do, you will always be left wondering about the mysteries of the Oneiric Theater, and its owner who seems to have you wrapped around her little finger at all times.
You sigh. Fine, you'll bite.
You follow the directress into the theater. Everything looks the same as the last time you visited: the floor is still carpeted with a clever illusion that makes it difficult to walk on it without getting dizzy. The walls still have posters of upcoming films. One poster is for a movie entitled “La Vie en Rose”. The title is printed in large elegant font above twelve girls all dressed in red. Roses decorate the poster while feathers do so to the poster taped next to it. That one's title is… “Secret Story of The Swan”? What an odd name.
The moment you look away from the poster you realize that Eunbi is already far up ahead of you. You quickly shake your head to get yourself focused and run after her.
She pauses at a doorway. When you catch up with her, confusion fills your senses.
"We're here again?" you say in disbelief. "I thought you said you had a new movie prepared for me."
The doorway leads to the exact same room you've watched the last time. Aisles of velvet chairs line the familiar room, while the same projector stands at the farthest back part of the theater. Hell, even the movie playing is the same. There isn't anything new at all!
"I have!"
"Then why are we—"
You are swiftly pinned to one of the walls. Let out a sound mixing between a groan and a yelp. Your back suffers most of the impact, but it seems like your dick will go through even more of that, seeing Kwon Eunbi's evil gaze raking down your body.
"You're so fucking gullible, aren't you?" she asks. Her hands trail to your neck and squeeze there, rendering you gasping for breath as you try to stutter out your words. "You really didn't learn from the last time you went here."
You wheeze, your hands trying to tug her own away from your neck. But Eunbi, despite her small height and slim frame, is stronger than you. And she always will be.
"Fuck you. I should have—I should have called the police when I had the chance."
She chuckles. "Oh, you definitely should have."
A powerful shove from her causes you to fall onto the floor. You try to move away, but your back only meets the corner of a wall while your fate is trapped into the directress' hands.
"I always keep promises though…"
Now she lifts you onto a plush sofa. It's a welcome comfort compared to the dirty carpeted floor, but Eunbi still manages to make it tight for you. Straddling you, she tugs a ribbon loose from her hair and gathers your wrists into one knot with them. "So you'll get to see the film you want so badly."
"W-Where is it then?" You struggle to breathe as Eunbi seals the second ribbon around your neck.
She shrugs playfully. "Somewhere, someday, maybe sometime."
"I'm not fucking around, Eunbi. Where is the film?"
"I'll give it to you after I have my way with you. Mommy needs her release after all."
"What the fu—"
Suddenly Eunbi is sitting on your face, her soaked lips muffling the words that come out of your own. Strong hands sealed onto your hair, she grinds herself onto your mouth, thighs clamping around your head to keep you in place.
This is when you realize why she is clad ina dress cut so high.
Grumbling, you give her a tentative lick to test the waters; the little shiver she does is a good enough response for you. Tuck your tongue into her warm wetness, swirling it inside her at unsteady patterns. When she begins to ride your mouth for more, you stop completely. Your inconsistency causes her to pull at your hair.
"Fucking—! If you keep slacking I'll never give you the goddamn film!"
"Someone's impatient," you say, grinning. You mess with my head? I'll mess up your orgasm. It will do little damage to her that isn't equal to what she's done to you, but the little rebellion against her keeps you going.
"Oh, you think I'm not serious?"
"I don't think you're shit."
"0927 Avenue, 95th Stree—ahhh, that's much better."
Your own home address?! Seriously? What else does this woman know?
Just to keep yourself safe, you dart your tongue out again. Eunbi's heated sex rocks to and fro onto your mouth, and everytime she lifts her hips you try to catch your breath. She doesn't allow that, of course; she ruts her core on your tongue harder, curses leaving her mouth like a dizzying chant while your tongue slides in her clenching hole and retreats just as quickly.
Her moans start to grace the atmosphere more often. You suppose she's been holding them back to keep up her tough guise, but the moans that keep spilling out of her mouth like a waterfall make the guise falter. Kind of similar to her center that drips continuously into your mouth.
"Shit," she hisses. Another hard clamp of her legs around your head doesn't stop you from licking greedily at her. "You're being such a good boy right now. Mommy feels so fucking good."
The pet name makes your heart pump a little faster. You whine, but Eunbi pays no mind to that. She starts to ride your tongue, the rolls of her hips guiding your pointed muscle into her wet orifice. Kiss her clitoris and purse your lips, licking at it from side to side. Eunbi shakes like a leaf under rain as high-pitched moans are driven out of her hair with each lap, each suck, each lick.
"Your mouth has some good use after all," the directress says weakly. Now her voice isn't the matter-of-fact tone it usually is—it's a wavery one, one that's labored with heavy breathing and whines. "I hate to, hah, admit it but—you're q-quite good at this, aren't you?"
Maybe you are; everytime you impale Eunbi with your tongue another rush of wetness floods your mouth and dribbles down your chin. Her thighs quiver next to the sides of your head while you flick your wet muscle into her equally wet walls.
"I'll do—mmm, an even better job if you free my hands," you promise in between laps at her cunt.
"You must think I'm a fool to fall for that."
Her words suddenly make you recall the last time you visited the theater—when all chaos were unleashed upon you and your dick after you freed Eunbi's hands of the belt you tied around them. You sorely want to pull a trick like that as well, but the promise of the film to answer all your questions is too tempting that you wouldn't dare.
And besides, you do not want to hear her gasps of pleasure stop for just a minute. You want her to break.
"Gah"—you release your lips from suckling fervently on her pulsing clit—"please, mommy."
That word is the first crack. Though she has never actually confirmed she likes being called so, you could easily verify it as a fact seeing the way she winces when you say it. The way she whimpers, the way more wetness leaks from her pussy.
"Fuck, alright." She tugs away the ribbon. "But if you try to be funny, mommy will make sure you never—ahh!"
No more threats or arrogance from her; the moment your hands are freed, you clamp your hands over her milky legs and nuzzle your mouth completely in between them. Your nose tickles her nub while your tongue lathers her folds with saliva and unfalteringly fucks her hole. Eunbi's screams are blocked out by her thighs tightly pressing against your ears.
"That's it, baby. Fuck mommy's pussy with your filthy little tongue. Fuck her until she can't tak- hahh, she's so close—"
Wave after wave of pleasure washes over Eunbi as she wriggles and writhes above you. Her cries are rendered soundless once again because of her convenient thighmuffs. Her legs try to wring themselves out of your grip but you hold on to them relentlessly, eating Eunbi out with much gusto while her juices flood your face.
She quivers as you clean her up, tongue prodding and pushing at the sensitive core. When she cannot take any more of your laps, she dismounts your face with a gasp and falls on your lap.
You try to catch your breath, attempting to get used to breathing without being interrupted with another hump on your mouth from Eunbi. Doing so feels like rising from the pool after swimming deep underwater till your hand could easily glide the tiled floor.
In between heavy pants, Eunbi smirks. "See? Isn't it much better when you're being good for me?"
"No 'thank you'?" you ask, wiping your lips on your sleeve. "God, your heart is as hard as a rock."
"And it seems like you are too, hotshot. Just look at yourself."
Eunbi shifts in her place on your lap to show you how your bulge is practically fighting against the fabric of your pants. Red fills your cheeks as she palms it slowly, the friction from her hand forming tight heat in your crotch.
You whimper. "Mommy, please."
"Oh, would you look at that. I knew you'd warm up to mommy quickly."
Humiliation rings clear in your face as she tugs your cock out of your pants, hand wrapping tightly around your length.
"Because you're being such a good boy right now"—Eunbi twists herself on your lap to face you and crosses her legs, throwing her legs to the side of the sofa—"I'll let you have your fun. I would have rewarded you with a titjob, but mommy's thighs will suffice for now, won't they, baby boy?"
Fuck, not that nickname again. You swear that if you didn't hold back you would have come just from her words.
Forget that she's your mortal enemy. Forget about your grudges and everything terrible she's done to you. Your mind can only wrap around this gorgeous woman wrapping her godly thighs around your cock, soft skin squeezing your length and rubbing its veins as she starts to bounce up and down.
Up down, up down, up down. It's a heavenly repetition with Eunbi squeezing her thighs around your dick just like she did to your head, but now it's for your own pleasure. Her tits, though still hidden under the buttoned lapels of her dress, bounce along with her thighs, rippling the fabric and looking absolutely tempting to grope.
You give in to the temptation. Your groans and the sounds of her lap meeting yours are background music to the scene of you daringly squeezing your hand over her breast. Quickly finding out that they're sensitive just by running your hand over them and seeing the desperate look on Eunbi's face when you do, you take things up a notch by slipping your hand under her dress.
Eunbi's eyes shoot you a warning, but they close almost immediately when you cup her bust over her bra. They're massive, soft mounds of flesh that are apparently very sensitive, seeing as the director clamps her thighs harder around your length each time you squeeze.
So you squeeze and squeeze and squeeze. The more you do, the more whimpers come out from Eunbi just as her wetness leaks even more onto your bare lap. Unable to hold it in anymore hearing her girlish moans and feeling her gorgeous thighs rub tight around you, ropes of cum shoot from your dick and onto Eunbi's milky skin. Groans and grunts of your own grace the air as the merciless Eunbi keeps bouncing slightly on your lap, milking your cock again and again till her thick thighs are almost covered completely in your cum.
"Holy shit, you came so much." She sticks a finger into the puddles of white and tastes it. "Yummy. Didn't know your cum tasted this good."
"Eunbi, I don't think I—"
"Shhh, mommy wants more."
With just one shift on your lap, your cock slips from between her thighs and sheathes itself deep into her pussy. You whine at the remaining sensitivity that causes you to writhe and shift underneath Eunbi, but she pays no mind to it all.
"F-Fuck, you're stretching me out so well." Eunbi's words are stammered out in gasps. Though the constant stimulation on your aching cock is difficult and nearly impossible to bear, what makes up for it is the expression on Eunbi's face as she sinks down onto you. Oh, and how her firm ass meets your lap everytime her hips rise.
She must have known you were thinking of her ass since her fingers wrap around your shivering hand and guide it to her buttcheek. She squeals when you slap it, walls clenching tighter around your cock. Another slap, her breath hitches. The third is what she makes sure is the last one for she grabs your hand and places it on her boob instead.
Alright, this could work too. Sweat rolling down your face and its scent mixing in with the smell of sex, your upward thrusts stutter as a burst of cum shoots into the director's wet hole. Tug the lapel of her dress away from the other to reveal her bouncing tits to you—"oh, that's it, baby. Breed mommy—fucking fill her pussy with your cum"—and pull her bra down. Without the support of the underclothing her boobs shake with her movements, two large mounds of flesh bouncing in the air which you grope and squeeze. She whispers curses underneath her breath as you play with her sensitive tits as much as you can.
The whispers turn into uncontrolled screams when you close the little distance in between you and latch onto her nipple. She pulls on your hair and humps you faster, crying out with every swirl of your tongue around her erect nipple and suck on her full breasts. "Fuck, baby, don't stop! Mommy's cum—"
Nails digging in your scalp, she pulls you closers till your mouth is sucking and biting at almost all of her breast. Your other hand plays with the other, and when you pinch her nipple in between your fingers, she explodes.
A scream pierces the air as her body spasms and tightens around you. Swears come out as weak stutters while her walls tighten hard enough to draw another orgasm out of you. Your semen splashes into her cunt and drips out of it too, staining the little gray dress and the couch.
"Mommy's so full, baby. Can't believe how much you came."
You could; the director's tight little cunt and addictive moans drive you insane. Her pretty silk voice has a special way of affecting you, especially with the pet names.
Eunbi tries to move away, but when she rises from her place she whimpers and returns to her original position instead. Carefully lifting her body and unsheathing your used dick, white rolls down her milky thighs and creates splotches on her dress.
"I hope the camera caught how you almost made me cum just from your knee. That would be interesting to see."
Your comprehension is steadily lowering to a zero as exhaustion begins to take over you, but you're pretty sure she just said something about a camera.
Your body slides down and lies flat on the sofa. Eunbi still sits on your lap—at least, that's what your blurring eyes can detect—so you try to ask her about it.
"W-What camera?"
"For a special film. You see, the Oneiric Diary isn't the only film I prepared for you."
Oneiric Diary? What the hell was that? And what did she mean by the special film?
"But I see you're too tired to watch them with me. We shall view them when you wake up, do you understand?"
Eunbi's voice has returned to its usual formal tone. You can't tell if yours has become normal again as well because you are too weak to even mumble out a word. All that comes out is groans.
As your eyes flicker close and the world turns black around you, you could feel a pair of plump lips press against your cheek. It might have been pre-slumber delusions, but you swear you heard Eunbi whisper "Sweet dreams, darling" before everything disappears completely.
±
"Are you sure you can trust him, unnie? He seems weak."
A chuckle from the older woman as she stands in the way of the projected film, two shadows lurking in the now-dark theater. Her arms are crossed while her eyes stay on the man passed out on the sofa.
"He doesn't even trust me," Eunbi says with a grin. "But I'm sure of it. There are too many coincidences for all of it to be nothing."
"You know what happened last time, unnie. You can't risk it."
The grin disappears from Eunbi's face. Her eyes unlock from him as she turns to the younger girl, a warning in her glare. "What did I tell you about mentioning The Nightmare?"
"I'm sorry."
"You better be. You of all people should know how bad it affected the theater."
"I'm sorry, unnie."
"Save the apologies, Sakura. And turn off the projector; I want him to sleep well."
"So you could fuck him till he passes out again?" Sakura asks sarcastically.
"That, and another thing: I want him to be ready for what he sees in the Oneiric Diary."

Request: N/A Contains Spoilers for: N/A Word Count: 2.6k
—
Almost everyone knew - there was no doubt about that. Everyone should’ve known, at least, but those who didn’t pay enough attention… sorry for them.
Everyone who heard the sound of the heels clacking against the marble flooring would straighten themselves up as if the sound was coming from the men themselves.
Which men? Oh, which men indeed.
That’s not to say that the woman couldn’t have any kind of friendships with any of the men in the building - she does need a little bit of platonic fun here and there.
“Slow down, Aphrodite, you might chip the flooring.” A mocking voice calls from behind her. Despite it being from a familiar face, the other men still stiffen as if they were the ones doing wrong.
“You might shatter the mirrors if you look in them for any longer.” The woman retorts as she attempts to hide the grin that forms at her own comeback.
The man, however, doesn’t even try to hide his smile as he turns his strides into a jog to catch up with her.
“How do you even know how often I stare in the mirror? You spying on me?” Sam asks, the pair glancing at each other and both now smiling.
“So you admit that you stare at the mirror, and not just look at it?” The woman tactically avoids his question with her own retort.
Sam’s laugh echoes through the corridor they’re walking through. It’s quite spectacular really - some would mistake it for being a palace. A place where only the good-willed people reside. Almost a shame that it’s full of the likes of James ‘Bucky’ Barnes and Steve Rogers - the two men who own just about all the power there is in New York, let alone Manhattan.
“You know they’re not done yet, right?” The man quizzes, a content smile still on his lips as his hands rest in the front pockets of his black trousers.
The woman doesn’t respond, simply nods.
Sam catches it out the corner of his eye and simply shakes his head.
“You have a habit of interrupting their meetings.”
“And you have a habit of saying things that might get you killed one day.” (Y/N) answers, but her gentle smile admits that that’s not entirely true.
Her attire consists of a loose but very fitting crimson dress that sits mid-thigh, along with the matching red heels that are buckled around her ankles. A simple silver chain around her neck that has two small, but very expensive, black and red diamonds resting in the centre of her collarbone.
“Tell Steve that his car’s being valeted if he needs it anytime soon.” The man comments as he turns off down another corridor, different to (Y/N)’s route.
She simply nods again.
Why is it that she’s heading toward her husbands’ meeting? Because she’s interested in seeing how it will end. The man who has been persisting to speak with Steve and Bucky for the last sixteen months is desperate, to say the least. He wants investment in their three hotels that are situated across NYC, in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan.
She was the one who decided on where those hotels would be built, so she wants to see the man, John Walker, crumble as her partners’ pretend they care, only to tell him no.
It might seem like a waste of time but in reality, it’s to see how the man deals with hearing the word no, and whether Bucky and Steve need to deal with him.
“Ma’am.” Christopher greets as (Y/N) approaches the door of the conference room that her men are in.
“Chris.” She responds, nodding her head as he opens the door for her. “How’s it going, gentlemen?” The woman adds as she casually struts into the room, grabbing everyone's attention.
There’s a moment of silence as everyone turns to look at the woman who’s interrupted their meeting. Steve and Bucky simply smile as they take a moment to admire their wife.
“Excuse me?” John is the first to speak up and everyone’s attention turns to him, including (Y/N), who doesn’t seem phased by his evident frustration.
“You’re excused.” Her response is simple but ignites a spark inside of the man.
“Do you usually let whores just stroll around and cause inconvenience in their wake, gentlemen?” He asks, but his eyes remain on (Y/N).
The woman’s eyebrows raise, and a surprised but impressed smile etches its way onto her face. She says nothing. John stares at her with a quirked brow, waiting for a response from the two men his question was directed to, so obliviously aware of the fearful stares he’s now getting from everyone else in the room.
Bucky and Steve’s heads turned very slowly, in sync, back toward their guest, their smiles now distorted into that of pure fury.
“Would you like to say that again?” Steve speaks up first, John now turning his head toward the boss in curiosity of his sudden change of voice.
That’s when the man notices all the stares on him. His eyebrows furrow as he acknowledges everyone’s expression. His eyes flick from the other men in the room to Bucky and Steve, to (Y/N), and back to the two leaders.
He gulps.
“I said: Say. It. Again.” Steve enunciates.
“Come here, doll,” Bucky speaks up also, his eyes flicking from John to (Y/N) for a brief moment, his arm opening up and inviting the woman to situate herself on his knee.
The woman obliges, striding over to her husbands and letting the brunet’s arm wrap around her as she sits.
John’s eyes haven’t left Steve’s, too mortified to even blink, but he catches the action of Bucky and (Y/N).
Steve’s eyebrow quirks, reminding his guest that he’s waiting. And Steve hates waiting.
“I didn’t mean- I didn’t know she was- gentlemen, please, look, this is all a big misunderstanding, I just-”
“Called our woman a whore and an inconvenience.” Bucky finishes his sentence, his expression just as murderous as Steve’s, despite the soothing actions of his hand stroking his wife’s waist.
“I didn’t know she was your-”
“And you think that excuses it?” Steve interrogates. “You think calling any woman a whore is acceptable? An inconvenience?”
John gulps and the sound echoes in the room. His eyes flicker away from Steve’s for a moment to the woman herself, intentionally or not, but his eyes drop to the prominent cleavage on display.
Bucky smirks at the action that most definitely didn’t go unnoticed by himself.
“Sweetheart,” Steve begins, John’s attention darting straight back to the blond’s once more. (Y/N) hums in response. “Who do you belong to?”
(Y/N) bites her lip, core throbbing at the obvious dominance and possession of the two men.
“You and James.” She whispers, Bucky’s hand gripping her waist tightly at the use of his birth name.
The sweat glistening on John’s forehead is clear as day.
Knowing what’ll get everyone in the room riled up even moreso, (Y/N) turns herself around so she’s facing Bucky, sat on his lap, legs on either side of his body. Everyone else in the room keeps their eyes firmly locked on the glass table or the white ceiling.
A pleasant hum resonates from the brunet’s throat, his hands naturally adjusting to rest on her hips.
The moment John’s eyes flicker to (Y/N) once more and then drift down her back, a gun is cocked and metal is pressed firmly against the back of the man’s head.
The woman goes to turn her head around to see what’s happened but Bucky’s lips locking with hers prevents that from happening. She whimpers against his mouth and he absolutely adores it.
“Bend over this table for me, doll.” The man murmurs. “Let’s show Mister Walker what a proper whore looks like.”
The excitement that sparkles in his wife’s eyes makes his cock throb between his legs.
“Yes, sir.”
The pet name makes both men throb.
The woman stands up and turns herself around, making sure every sway of her hips is a show to be watched. Her eyes lock with none other than their security lead, Tony Stark, who’s holding the gun up to Walker’s head, as she bends herself over the table, dress drooping at the front to display her cleavage.
Tony’s eyes don’t even flicker away from her own. The staff in this building know better than to try and indulge in what is rightfully Bucky and Steve’s. John, however, sees this as a prime opportunity to stare at what he believes he’s being offered, his trousers getting tighter.
(Y/N) sees it. She finds is humorous.
Bucky’s hands slide their way up the backs of his wife’s bare thighs, pushing up the crimson material as he reaches it.
Her eyes flutter shut and lips part in satisfaction at the feeling.
“Tell us what you want, doll.” Bucky mumbles, sitting the bottom of her dress at the base of her back, grinning at her lack of underwear.
“Touch me.”
The explicit word that escapes John’s lips are heard clear as day and he knows it, face once again panicking as he looks back at Steve, whose expression still hasn’t changed.
“Where do you want me to touch you, princess?” James continues, not paying an ounce of attention to anyone else in the room right now besides his missus.
His fingers stroke the top of her inner thighs, seeing her soaking wet core already dripping down them.
“Want you to touch my pussy.” (Y/N) breathes, eyes flitting open barely a millimetre.
James presses soft kisses on his wife’s ass before sliding his middle and ring finger lightly over her slit. The action gets a mewl out of her.
Fifteen men in this room in total, only two of them can touch this woman yet all fifteen are dreaming about it.
“Move.” Steve states, prompting John to widen his eyes once more, but this time the words aren’t directed at him.
Bucky grins and obliges, removing his hands from his girl and stands up.
(Y/N)’s eyes open fully this time as she whines in complaint at the loss of contact, but a large smack on her ass distorts her whine into a large gasp.
“You’ll get what’s coming to you, sweetheart.” Steve states, manoeuvring himself so he’s stood directly behind his wife, Bucky casually pulling his own gun out of his inner blazer pocket and wiping it down with his hands.
John’s face stays facing Steve, but his eyes follow Bucky as the brunet moves behind him and out of his sight.
Tony takes the sign to back away and let his boss take over from here.
Steve has no shame as he unbuckles his belt, undoes his trousers and pulls out his rock-hard cock, stroking it with his hand a few times while his other hand returns to Bucky’s previous actions.
“You see that?” Bucky whispers in John’s ears, prompting the man to gasp and jump in his seat. He gulps again but remains silent. “I asked you a question.”
The man frantically nods, fearful for his life, and absolutely humiliated.
“You’re so wet, baby,” Steve murmurs, leaning down and moving her hair aside, kissing the back of her neck.
Before the woman can even respond, her husband thrusts himself inside of her in one go, (Y/N)’s back arching and moaning so loud that Christopher can probably hear outside the door, and Steve’s head being thrown back, his own moan equally loud.
Bucky almost loses his composure if it wasn’t for the fact that he knew not to falter when making sure a man like John Walker was wanting his woman.
“Fuck…” Walker whispers, lips parted as he stares at the woman in front of him being railed by none other than Steven Rogers.
“Keep watching because this is your death wish.” Bucky whispers, John’s eyes widening. “Does she look good?”
John nods his head almost desperately.
Her moans only get faster and louder as Steve fucks her.
“Remind him what you are, sweetheart?” The blond groans, grabbing the woman’s hair and pulling her head back so she’s more or less face-to-face with Walker alongside her other husband.
“A whore.” (Y/N) practically begs.
“Louder.” Steve demands.
“A whore!”
“I said: fucking louder!”
“A WHORE! I’m your whore, sir!” She screams, John losing it and standing up to lean forwards but a gunshot firing beside his head makes him stumble back down to his seat.
(Y/N) flinches are the known noise but settles quickly as Bucky strokes her face with the hand that’s not holding the freshly-fired weapon.
“Don’t you fucking dare move an inch toward our wife.” Bucky threatens to the man he’s leaning over.
John gulps but nods, not taking his eyes off (Y/N).
“Is she inconvenient now, Walker?” Steve asks, glaring daggers at the man. He only shakes his head, eyes only meeting Steve’s for a split second. “No?” He breathes. “Then what is she?”
The guest falls speechless, shaking his head as his eyes flicker between Steve and (Y/N).
“Hot as fuck.” He whispers, Bucky growling in his ear.
“Fuck!” (Y/N) cries out, desperate eyes staring at Bucky’s, who smirks at her state.
“Think our girl wants to cum, Steve.” He comments, John panting in his seat.
“Yeah? You wanna show this scum what a good girl you are for us, baby girl?” Steve grunts, not slowing down but rather speeding up as he too reaches his peak.
The woman’s head nods in desperation, face flushed as her eyes flicker across all men in the room, including Tony’s, who simply winks at her before removing his stare.
“Say it, doll.” Bucky demands.
“I wanna cum.” (Y/N) gasps, watching her brunet lover shake his head.
“Gonna have to do better than that, doll.”
“Please,” She begs. “Please, daddy. Sir. Please, let me cum!” Her voice screams, Steve grunting in response to the feeling of her squeezing his cock, milking him for all his worth.
“Cum, baby girl.” He permits. “Cum like the whore you are.”
And how she does.
Her scream could shatter glass, Christopher would be concerned if he hadn’t already established the differences between the woman’s fearful screams and her pleasure-filled ones.
Taking full advantage of Bucky’s distraction, John leaps forward to get a taste of the woman who’s almost passing out from the pleasure, but that’s the last move he makes as a bullet is shot through his back, knocking him down onto the table.
Tony doesn’t seem phased as he shakes the smoke from his gun, settling it back into his pocket.
Making sure the woman doesn’t collapse atop the, now dead, man on the table, Bucky holds her up while Steve sorts himself out before pulling her back across the table and into his lap.
“You okay, sweetheart?” The blond whispers, smoothing the hair out of her face.
(Y/N) nods but keeps her eyes shut as she rests against her husband’s chest.
“Words, baby.” He requests.
“M’okay.”
“That’s my girl.”
Two of the security men alongside Tony head over and remove the body from the room, Bucky asking for someone to clean up the mess whilst walking over to his two lovers.
“We okay?” The brunet murmurs, Steve smirking and nodding before both paying attention to their girl who’s still half unconscious.
“Does anyone else in the room have anything to say before we carry on?” Steve asks, everyone shaking their heads frantically. “Good, now leave.” And they do.
“You okay, baby doll?” Bucky whispers, cocooning her cheek with his hand.
The woman nods and manages to open her eyes.
“Yeah.”
“That’s our girl.”

——————————————————————————
If you’re looking for the personification of the bad boy stereotype, look no further than Lee Donghyuck. His legs were clad in ripped black jeans and on his shoulders always lay his signature black leather jacket. His usually bruised knuckles were adorned with silver rings and the cigarette that hung from his lips all made him look like the typical bad boy out of a cheesy 90s romance film.
As infuriating as the smirk that was constantly plastered on his lips was, and the way he insisted everybody called him ‘Haechan’ instead of Donghyuck, you couldn’t deny that something about him pricked your interest.
Maybe it was something to do with how self assured he was, the confidence he radiated in simply being himself and being in his own skin that made people almost resent him for it. Or maybe it was something to do with how he reminded you of every boy that your mother would warn you about when you were growing up, being told to steer clear of the boys in black, they would be the ones to break your heart. Maybe it was the fact that as soon as anybody new arrives in the area, they’re immediately told to ‘Avoid Haechan, he’s bad news.’ And you weren’t the exception to the rule.
There’s just one problem, you never do what you’re told.
So when you were told to stay away from Haechan, you simply rolled your eyes and kept walking, you weren’t afraid of some bad boy. You’d moved around your entire life, your father’s job meaning you had to be prepared to pack up and travel wherever he needed you to, and, throughout your time you had heard of and come across every kind of character that there was in a high school. A few groups in particular always stuck out to you.
The jocks. Probably the most famous group and likely the first group that comes to anyone’s mind when you talk about high school. Jocks are an elite crowd, often very popular and normally find themselves very important. For them, high school tends to be the best time of their lives, sadly finding that this popularity and fear doesn’t translate to the workplace. Jocks are a large group as well, in fact, they often have so many members that they divide into sub-categories, usually by sport. You have the baseball team, the football team, the soccer team etc. and then these are ordered into a hierarchy apparently based on the importance that each team has to the school when in reality it’s down to how attractive/popular the team captain is.
Splitting off nicely from the jocks come the cheerleaders. Originally part of the same pack but grew in popularity when they adopted mean girls cliché. Therefore, in order to gain more power and dominate the school, they became a separate breed. The Head Cheerleader was guaranteed to be just as popular as she was bitchy, a stereotype that you were fed up of. What if they were actually nice people and felt as though they had to be rude cause that was what the “role” of Head Cheerleader asked of them? What kind of a place would that be? Anyway, getting back to the point, the best thing to do with this group, would be to avoid them entirely.
Then, usually the polar opposite in terms of popularity, come the nerds/geeks. You had never really been sure why this particular group was always picked on. You always thought that being smart and doing well in life was something to brag about, but then, maybe you just had weird opinions. They formed a cluster and stuck with it, whilst also managing to keep themselves to themselves. They sat at the same seats in class, the same table at lunch and never argued back. Despite their deathly awkwardness and shy behaviour, they were usually pretty good people. You just had to be willing to put in the effort to break through their shell.
Next come the artsy kids. This group can, once again, split into sub categories based on Theatre, Art, Dance and Music but that depends on the size of the school. Normally they just come under the umbrella term of the artsy kids. Very easy to pick on but are normally left alone. They’re pretty chill and mostly mind their own business, despite often being slightly obnoxious about the art that they specialise in. You swore that if one person asked you to go and see their one woman show you might punch them. You’re a broke student, why would you pay to put yourself through two hours of pretentious speech? Yeah, the artsy kids weren’t quite your scene.
Honourable mentions go to the stoners, the class clowns, the hipsters, the ‘I was born in the wrong generation’, the gamers and the punks. But there was only one group left worth mentioning.
Finally, the last stereotypical school clique would be the troublemakers, otherwise known as the bad boys and bad girls The commonalities between the two groups tend to include things like, black ripped clothing, silver jewellery, sassy attitudes and bad decisions. They never stray from their crowd, finding other groups too boring and stuck up for their taste. The cheerleaders and jocks attempt to pick on them, but it rarely works out in their favour. Instead of leaving victorious while dropping the mic, they often find themselves running back to their respective groups with their tail in between their legs. They like to either find relationships with their own kind, or play around with various people until they’re bored. Things are never too serious for this group.
So as soon as you arrived, you knew you’d need to find somewhere to fit in. You didn’t really conform to one of the many cliche groups that roamed this new school. You instead thought that people were a mixture of all of them, and shouldn’t be defined by a single personality trait, but that often wasn’t the most popular opinion. In fact, that opinion is why you often found yourself alone, wandering the halls by yourself. Sometimes people pitied you (usually the hipsters or artsy kids who tried to make you “find your passion”) but, to be honest, you didn’t mind it.
Being by yourself meant that you didn’t owe anything to anyone, and it meant that you could turn the school upside down and disappear without regretting a thing. After all, that’s how you left your last three schools.
---
You walked through the doors on your first day, to empty folders tucked under your arm as you walked towards the Principle’s office. You had barely made it five steps before some guys in a football jersey stopped you. He moved in front of you, buffing himself up in an attempt to look more impressive. You refused to speak first, instead just raising your eyebrows judgmentally.
‘So what should I call you?’ He purred, looking at you through hooded eyes.
‘You shouldn’t.’ You cut back, already tired of his attempt at flirting. You knew you had “new kid” written all over you and this wasn’t a genuine attempt, but most like rather a “welcome to the school fresher” and you weren’t here for it.
‘Trouble it is.’ The guy flirted, sending you a cheesy wink to which you could only respond with a groan and an eye roll.
‘God could you get anymore cliche? You may want to be a bit more inventive if you wanna impress me.’ With a quick tilt of your head, you turned and stalked past him to the other end of the hall, leaving the poor jock with his mouth hanging slightly open at your reply.
You felt a bit bad turning him down so intensely like that, but you also knew that if you didn’t make a strong first impression, you would be like fresh meat to them. And you didn’t want to go through that again.
---
After meeting the Principle, getting his painfully rehearsed welcome speech, then dealing with the three students who called themselves the “Welcome Committee”, you briefly stopped off at your locker to grab the text book that had been left there for you and place your empty folders there. You wouldn’t need them until your classes anyway. You picked up the textbook and grabbed a pad of paper that was conveniently left there for you as well and headed towards your Maths class.
You walked through the door, sighing in defeat as you saw you were one of the last ones to arrive. This meant that all eyes were on you and the teacher stood up and introduced you as the new student.
‘So y/n why don’t you tell the class a little bit about yourself?’ The teacher gave you a wide smile, one that you were sure was meant to reassure you but it honestly just creeped you out slightly.
‘Uhhh, sure. My name’s y/n and I moved here about a month ago.’ You sent the class a quick nod before attempting to move off to head off an empty seat at the back.
‘Ahhh come now y/n, I’m sure there’s more that you can tell us.’ The teacher stopped you in your tracks, as you let out a breath of annoyance.
‘Ok. I’ve never lived anywhere longer than a year, I like coffee and I’m done with this now.’ You quickly moved away before the teacher could stand up and make you continue. You slouched in your seat, crossing your arms and letting out another sigh of frustration.
You had just opened your books and prepared to start listening when the door swung open again. All the heads in the class, including yours, looked to see who would be walking in so late. A boy appeared, his honey skin glowing slightly in the morning sun that reflected off his leather jacket and silver jewellery. He probably couldn’t get more cliche, but he also couldn’t get more beautiful.
‘Haechan, you’re late.’ Your teacher snapped and you looked back at the boy walking through the seats.
So this was Haechan, this was who you had been warned about earlier. You remembered the annoyingly cheery welcome that this group of three had given you, yet this preppy ginger was the only one who spoke. You were sure she was a really lovely person, she was just way too excited about the first day of school to not be annoying. Anyway, she’d told you about the groups at school and made a point to mention this “Haechan”. Her exact words being:
‘Let me save you the trouble, Haechan is the last person you want to get involved with here, in any way. He puts himself as number one and nothing and no one is going to change that. It’s in your best interests to stay away from him.’
And yet, despite your absolutely minimal effort to avoid him, this Haechan was standing at the front of your class, and you couldn’t lie, you were already intrigued.
‘Yeah I’m aware.’ Haechan retaliated, his bored voice bringing you out of your memories and back to reality.
‘Do you feel like apologising?’ The teacher asked, a very forced smile on his face. Haechan turned back towards him, breathing in as if he was thinking before responding with a smile.
‘Not really, no.’ He then turned away and walked towards the back of the classroom. He approached where you were sitting, examined you quickly causing you to frown at his behaviour, before he pulled out the chair next to yours and collapsed into it.
He slouched back into his seat, crossing his arms and staring mindlessly at the front of the class, where the teacher was still sending him the stink eye.
‘Haechan, did you bring your books?’ The teacher asked with the kind of tone that told you he probably already knew the answer.
‘Nope!’ The boy replied, popping the ‘p’ and causing the teacher to obviously roll his eyes.
‘Well, maybe our new student, y/n, would be nice enough to share with you for today?’
It took everything in you not to roll your eyes at his statement. But you still shifted your textbook in between the two of you so that he could see it. Haechan sat up in his chair slightly in surprise, as if he wasn’t expecting you to actually do it.
‘Thank you y/n. Now let’s begin-’ The teacher turned back to the board and began the lesson.
After only about five minutes you realised that you had done this entire topic in your previous school. It had been necessary for you to pass the entrance exam here, so you knew all of this already. You huffed once again in frustration, dropping your pen and leaning back in your chair as you began to pick at your nails. Why would they bother to ask you to know something that they’re just going to teach you as soon as you got here?
You could see Haechan notice and begin to subtly watch your behaviour so you leant forwards to whisper to him.
‘Is there something interesting about me?’
‘That’s exactly what I’m trying to figure out.’ Haechan replied, his voice just as soft as yours was and yet you couldn’t resist the shivers that it sent down your spine.
“Well let me know if you find anything?’ You spoke softly, turning away from him to look at the ceiling as he did the same.
‘Haven’t you been told to stay away from me?’ He asked you, not even bothering to look back towards you.
‘Oh yeah, I got that speech. The welcoming committee was quite informative about you and your personality.’ Now that got his attention. His head turned, as he looked at you out of the corner of his eye, examining your features carefully.
‘So...’ He spoke, dragging out the word as he looked at you.
‘So?’ You asked, not sure what he was getting at.
‘Why aren’t you doing as you were told?’ He questioned, leaving you to turn back to him with an amused look on your face.
‘What makes you think I wanna do what they tell me to? They look as though they have the personality of milk.’ You groaned, remembering the fake happiness that radiated off them.
Haechan couldn’t help the chuckle that came up in his throat, unable to believe just how accurate your words were. Nobody in that school would quite be able to admit that that girl wasn’t drop dead boring.
‘Well, you’re a little firecracker aren’t you?’ He smirked at you, causing you to simply raise an eyebrow in reply. ‘I think you’re gonna fit right in with us.’
‘Who says I want to?’ You smirked back, now enjoying the interaction you were having.
‘Do you want to?’ He leant in closer and you could smell the mint of his breath.
‘We’ll see. Don’t want to give away all my secrets so quickly.’ You pulled back, leaving Haechan awkwardly leaning over half of your desk just as the teacher turned back around.
‘Haechan! Not only are you not paying attention but you’re distracting y/n as well. If you’re not going to pay attention you can wait outside until you’re prepared to take this class seriously.’ He snapped, and Haechan turned to you with a surprised look on his face, not expecting you to have set him up like that. He nodded, unable to keep the small smile from his lips and stood, walking swiftly out of the door at the front.
He leaned back in for one second, just to cheekily wave at the teacher who looked as though he was about to explode and it took everything in you to stop yourself from laughing.
A couple more minutes passed before you were bored beyond belief. You were starting to think that getting your only source of entertainment, Haechan, kicked out of class wasn’t the smartest idea you’d ever had. You were halfway through counting the black marks on the ceiling when you heard a very quiet tapping from behind you, You turned around in your chair to see Haechan standing by the floor length window at the back of the classroom. He was on the outside looking in and quickly gestured for you to follow him.
He cracked the window open slightly and leant in, getting just close enough to you to whisper:
‘I’ve played your game, now it’s my turn. Your move y/n, are you gonna live up to your attitude or are you all talk?’
With that he moved away from the window, hiding behind the wall as the teacher turned around again. You didn’t want to get caught sneaking out on your first day, but you also couldn’t stand the idea of letting Haechan win. Somehow the boy was an addictive kind of annoying, no matter how infuriated or annoyed you had gotten, you already wanted more.
You waited for the teacher to turn around and quickly piled up your books, placing them on the shelf under your desk. This was your only class of the day and you were in here the next morning so you weren’t too fussed about leaving them behind.
You began to get up but your eyes suddenly caught sight of blue haired guy sitting a couple of rows ahead of you watching you. He raised his eyebrows in question, as if asking if you were going to go, to which you shrugged and he shrugged himself before turning back around.
You waited until the girl at the front had finished asking her question and, when the teacher turned back to the front to go through the example on the board again, you made your move. You quickly pushed your chair back, relieved when it didn’t make a sound and climbed out of the window. You pulled it gently shut behind you and turned to left, finding yourself face to face with Haechan.
‘Wow, for a minute then I didn’t think you’d have the balls.’ He grinned at you, pulling you out of sight of the class as you began to walk away.
‘Well as you can clearly see, I do. So what now?’ You replied, unable to stop yourself from grinning back.
‘Now we have some fun.’ Haechan said, the smile he sent you this time was the opposite of innocent and it made your heart pump.
This was someone you would enjoy causing trouble with.

The two of you decided that leaving the school and skiving on the first day was a bit too cliche and unoriginal, so instead you came up with the idea that, no matter what you guys did, it had to be on school grounds.
‘Interesting...’ Haechan mused, the smirk that you were already familiar with gracing his delicate features. ‘So we cause as much chaos as we like, and do what we like, but there’s a much higher risk of getting caught...’
‘Exactly.’ You clarified. ‘But we can leave for lunch though! I want McDonalds.’ You quickly added, Haechan laughing slightly at your expression.
‘Agreed. So we’ll have our fun here, then head to McDonalds for lunch. Tell you what, why don’t we leave a little earlier than the lunch break so that we avoid bumping into the rest of the students?’ Haechan watched as you nodded in agreement.
You allowed your gaze to drift around the unfamiliar halls until your eyes came to rest on the smoke detector on the wall. Suddenly an idea popped into your head. It was stupid, reckless and if you got caught you would be in serious trouble. Sounds ideal.
‘Hey Haechan?’ You began, turning towards him with a grin on your face.
‘Yeah?’ He answered, a grin appearing on his own. He didn’t know what you were planning but he knew it would be interesting.
‘Have you ever set off the fire alarm?’ You asked, raising an eyebrow as his furrowed in thought.
‘Like falsely pulled it? Yeah.’ He admitted, nodding like it was no big deal, but you shook your head.
‘No, not falsely pulled, actually set it off.’ You watched as his jaw dropped slightly and he shook his head. 'Yeah, neither.’ You told him, before looking away. He followed your gaze to see the smoke detector on the wall.
You both turned back to each other.
‘Well...’ Haechan began, a mischievous grin stretching across his face. ‘There’s a first time for everything.’
---
The alarm blared through the school as you and Hyuck laughed to yourself as the school emptied.
‘No talking!’ A teacher behind you barked, causing the two of you to roll your eyes in sync. Why you had to walk silently during a fire alarm you would never know. If the school was actually on fire you would be sprinting out of it swearing at the top of your lungs, not walking silently in an orderly fashion.
The two of you had had to find a way to set off the alarm, so you put your heads together. Neither of you had managed to come up with anything that wouldn’t get you caught, and you were about to give up when you noticed the cigarettes in Haechan’s pocket. Now that gave you an idea.
You had lit the cigarette and, with Haechan supporting you from beneath as you sat on his shoulders, managed to stuff it inside the fire alarm. You gently blowed on it, to make sure it was lit and there was smoke coming off it and suddenly the alarm blared throughout the school. You then proceeded to slip off his shoulders, him catching you easily in his arms and you both quickly moved into your respective bathrooms.
You stood by the door and counted to five before opening the bathroom door and leaving again. You’d noticed the men’s bathroom door next to you open and Haechan walked out. The two of you blended seamlessly into the crowd of students as they made their way out to the assembly point.
You had decided to hide in the bathroom for a couple of seconds so that neither of you were spotted underneath the fire alarm. You thought that if they noticed the bad boy and the new girl under the fire alarm that ended up having a cigarette stuck in it, the game would be over before it had even properly begun.
Students poured out of the doors of the school, lining up cleanly and efficiently on the sports pitches. You were standing in sections, divided by years and then each class split into lines. You faced your teacher at the front as they called out student’s names from the register.
‘Here.’ You spoke out as you heard your name, a similar call coming from your partner in crime behind you as his name was called. You turned around to face him. ‘Lee Donghyuck?’ You raised a teasing eyebrow.
‘Yep, that’s my real name.’ He replied, looking down at you.
‘So, can I ask then, why Haechan? Donghyuck’s a nice name.’ You wondered, tilting your head out of curiosity.
Haechan opened his mouth to answer but before he could, a boy who you recognised from your Maths class came up to the two of you.
‘Already corrupting the new kid Hyuck?’ He joked, a large smile on his face.
‘Trust me man, she barely needs corrupting.’ Haechan replied, laughing at his friend. ‘Y/n, this is Jaemin, he’s one of my closest friends.’
Jaemin flashed you a smile that you swore almost blinded you. You shook his outstretched hand and returned his smile with one of your own.
‘I’ve gotta say, I was impressed to see you follow him out of that window y/n. It looks like you’ve got some guts.’ Jaemin spoke, his face showing how he was clearly surprised. ‘And I’m guessing from what happened in Maths that this fire alarm may have something to do with the two of you?’
You and Haechan shared a grin and that small action told Jaemin all he needed to know. Jaemin laughed in disbelief, muttering something about how exciting the rest of the year was going to be if this was how you were acting on the first day. You couldn’t quite hear him though, your attention focused on the way that Haechan studied the features on your face, with such intensity you would think he was never going to see them again.
You spent the time making conversation with Jaemin and Haechan, getting to know the two boys, but your attention was drawn away from them when a fire engine made its way into the school gates. All the conversation surrounding you dwindled to a stop as one student asked what was going on.
‘Since there was no fire drill scheduled for today, we needed to call the fire department to determine what caused the alarm to go off.’ Your teacher explained.
The three of you looked at each other in disbelief, all of you unable to stop yourselves from giggling at the chaos you’d caused. You couldn’t help but think that Jaemin had been right. If this was day one, who knew what adventures this year would bring you? You’d never liked a place so quickly like you had here. Maybe for the first time in your life, you’d found somewhere you could actually see yourself staying.
You didn’t want to let yourself get your hopes up though. You had only been in this city a short while, and your father’s job would always mean that you had to move by this time next year. You couldn’t afford to get comfortable.
The boys watched as the firefighters entered the building, attempting to determine what caused the alarm to go off. It didn’t take long before they emerged with one of them holding a small plastic bag. A bad that you assumed that had the cigarette in. The teachers came into a small circle to have a short conversation before turning back to the waiting students.
The Principle suddenly stepped forward, immediately commanding attention from every student present as he began to speak.
‘This fire alarm was no drill. Nor was it an accident. We have evidence that it was set off on purpose and I seriously suggest that anyone who knows anything about how this happens steps forward. Do not make this any worse for you than it already is.’
With that, he turned, and made his way back into the school. An uneasy silence lay over all the students. You teacher walked back over to your group and spoke to the rest of you there.
‘Since it’s so close to lunch, we’ve decided to let you go early. But-’ They raised their voice as everyone began to move off. ‘This incident will not be taken lightly. To anybody who may have been involved, it is in your best interest to own up to it.’
You noticed their eyes were fixated on Haechan, and how they narrowed slightly. They seemed to fully believe that Haechan was involved with setting off the alarm.
‘They always assume it’s me. Whenever anything happens.’ He whispered into your ear and you nodded in understanding. ‘So... McDonalds?’
---
Haechan pulled back into the school grounds after your trip for lunch, Jaemin jumped out of the car and waved at the two of you before heading back into the building. While you and Haechan had a free afternoon, Jaemin didn’t, so, after some begging and bribing on Jaemin’s part, Haechan begrudgingly agreed to drop him off.
You turned back around to Haechan, wondering if you should propose to do something together, or if he was bored of you and had other things he’d rather be doing. However, before you had the chance to make up your mind, Haechan spoke for you.
‘I know where to go now.’ And with that he was off, driving out of the gates and off down the road. You couldn’t help but notice how good of a driver he was, always managing to keep his awareness on the road even when he was talking to you.
Haechan fumbled for something down near his feet, letting out a happy giggle when he found it and pulled out an AUX cord. He offered it to you, telling you to put something on the speakers.
You raised your eyebrows in surprise at his offer, considering he’d adamantly refused to let Jaemin play any of his music on the way to grab lunch, instead choosing to listen to the radio.
‘Already letting me choose the music? Damn, I feel special.’ You teased as Haechan laughed.
‘Just don’t play that song and we’ll be good.’ He looked over for a split second, noticing your offended face and quickly continued. ‘It’s a good song, don’t get me wrong, but all Jaemin plays is girl groups and you reach a limit of how many times you can hear a grown ass boy with blue hair sing Feel Special.’
You looked down at your phone, chuckling to yourself at Haechan’s story. You scrolled through your Spotify to find a good playlist, eventually settling on your driving music one. ‘What You Know’ by ‘Two Door Cinema Club’ started to blare through the speakers.
Haechan nodded, his fingers immediately tapping on the steering wheel in time to the song.
‘Good song!’ He complimented smiling at you as you gasped over-dramatically.
‘Ahhhh, Haechan likes my music taste! I have officially won at life!’ You placed one hand on your heart to emphasise your point as Haechan rolled his eyes, laughing at you. ‘Where are we going by the way?’ You asked, looking out of the window and realising you had no idea where you were. You were still new to the area so you hadn’t got everywhere memorised yet.
‘We’re almost there, don't worry.’ He replied, not giving you an answer in the slightest. You leaned back into your seat, accepting that he wasn’t going to tell you and just listened as Haechan began to sing gently along to the song. You were surprised by his voice, it was soothing and honey-like, the opposite of his image.
You watched him out of the corner of your eye, secretly enjoying listening to his voice more than the music.
---
You were standing behind Haechan in a quiet little coffee shop, looking at everything on the menu. Everything looked so amazing you could feel your mouth watering just from looking at the display cakes.
‘Any idea what you want?’ Haechan asked over his shoulder as you nodded.
‘I’m gonna get the Caramel Frap and a muffin of some kind.’ You replied. ‘What about you?’
‘Doubleshot Vanilla iced Coffee and a brownie. You gonna have coffee in your frap?’ He answered, moving forwards in the line as the person in front of you finished.
‘Always!!!’ You answered in a sing-song voice as Haechan rolled his eyes muttering something about you being as bad as Jaemin.
He stepped up to the counter and gave the cashier a friendly smile.
‘Hi, please can I get one large Caramel Frap with coffee and whip, one large Doubleshot Vanilla iced Coffee, one brownie and-’
‘Whoa what? It’s okay I can pay for myself.’ You interrupted him but he brushed you off.
‘Nah it’s fine, this is on me. And one peanut and banana muffin please?’ He finished the order and your eyes widened at his choice. ‘All the muffins here are good.’ He explained turning back to you.
‘Haechan I-’ You began, slightly in a panic.
‘Y/n, I told you I’m paying.’ He insisted but you continued.
‘Seriously I can’t-’ You stuttered, desperately trying to get your point across.
‘For the last time, y/n I am paying!’ He cut you off again.
‘No! I’m allergic to peanuts...’ You hurriedly told him and watched as his expression morphed into one of utter dread.
‘Oh god.’ He mumbled before turning around and almost throwing himself across the counter in an attempt to correct his order to a white chocolate and raspberry muffin. He turned back to you with the treats in his hand and gave you a sheepish smile. ‘Sorry.’
‘It’s okay, you didn’t know.’ You laughed, looking down at the muffin in your hand that smelt absolutely delicious.
It didn’t take long before your drinks had arrived and Haechan hurried you back into his car, claiming there was one more place he wanted to show you.
---
You were sitting on a bench in a deserted area of the park. Haechan had explained that if you wanted privacy, to come down here as people normally don’t bother to walk this far. He pulled his cigarettes out of his pocket, offering you one which you refused, before lighting his own.
‘It’s always worth it though. The tranquility that you get just from being a little further out.’ He looked sideways at you, tilting his head when he saw your confused expression. ‘What?’
‘Nothing it’s just... Why are you telling me all this? I mean I was told that you were aloof, never telling anyone but a close few details about yourself, keeping everything a mystery and yet here you are. With me, someone you’ve known now for about five hours and so far we’ve skived Maths, set off the fire alarm, brought the fire brigade to school, bought McDonalds, grabbed a coffee, almost killed me and now you’re talking to me about tranquility. You just... It doesn’t seem like something you’d do with someone you just met.’ You admitted, shrugging your shoulders as you finished.
Haechan looked away from you for a second, taking a drag from his cigarette before he faced you again to answer your question.
‘Well, I guess the only thing to say to that is, not all rumours are true. And yes, you have a point, not a lot of people sit and talk about tranquility with someone they just met, but not a lot of people get into trouble worthy of suspension on the first day. And even less of those people are willing to do it with me. Maybe that has something to do with it.’
‘Tell me something, then. Which rumours are true?’ You challenged.
‘Some of them.’ Haechan admitted. ‘I do smoke, I do cause trouble, I did sleep around quite a bit, and yeah, I hurt some people in the process. And also, yes, I didn’t really care that much. But the one thing I never did was lie to anyone or give them the impression that it was ever something more than just one night. That’s why I was “unsympathetic” to anyone. They knew what they were getting into so why is it my fault that they couldn’t handle it?’
Your jaw dropped slightly, not expecting that kind of answer. You mumbled a quick ‘fair point’ and turned your gaze back to the scenery. The river in front of you flowed gently, coursing it’s own way through life, the sun reflected off the constantly moving waves, casting flecks of light to dance across yours and Haechan’s bodies.
‘But I don’t think I’m gonna be doing that again. It makes you feel kinda empty, like you’re searching for something but anytime you come close to possibly having a chance at finding it, you take it away from yourself. Do you see that up there?’ Haechan changed the topic suddenly, pointing to a cliff edge in between the trees. You squinted slightly, trying to get a look at it, but it was difficult to see through the leaves.
‘Yeah, I think so. What’s up there?’ You asked, turning your body towards him as he grinned.
‘Real tranquility. If you ever want to properly get away, that’s where you go.’ He told you and you looked back. ‘From up there you can see the whole city.’
‘But how do you get up there?’ You wondered and Haechan simply winked in response, tapping his nose twice to signal that he wasn’t going to tell you. ‘Will you ever actually tell me anything when I ask?’
‘We’ll see princess, we’ll see.’ Haechan grinned, turning back to the river but at some point having moved closer to you, so close that your legs were almost touching.
Your heart was pounding, yet you weren’t sure if it was from the nickname or the close proximity of the two of, or both. As much as you tried to convince yourself otherwise, you had a strong suspicion it was the latter.
---
Before you knew it, another month had passed in your new city and you weren’t feeling so much like the obnoxiously new kid. You knew your way around without getting lost, your professors had started to get to know you and stopped treating you like you were made of glass because you were new, and you had a good group of people around you.
Haechan had easily become your closest friend, his constant teasing covered a layer of love that it took him a while to show to you. But once he did, you were constantly smothered by his affections. And if Haechan wasn’t smothering you, then Jaemin would be. Once you got to know him, Jaemin was almost too nice for his own good, his caring and loving nature making him a very easy person to get along with. There was never an awkward moment between the two of you and already, he felt like a friend you’d known for years.
Apart from those two, you had also become friendly with Momo from your sports class, Hyunjin from Chemistry, Siyeon from History and Dino from Music. But none of them really held a candle to how close you were with Haechan.
You found yourself spending most of your time with Haechan, Jaemin often came too but you realised pretty quickly after befriending him that, wherever you were, Haechan would find a way to be there too.
Your friendship hadn’t gone unnoticed by the rest of the school either. In fact, you were surprised by how quickly it had gone around that the two of you were close. The day after you had gone out for a coffee, you had walked into school to be greeted with confused stares and hushed whispers surrounding you everywhere you went.
You did your best to just ignore them, you told yourself you couldn’t care less what people here thought of you, it wasn’t as if you would be here for long anyway. Their whispers and accusations sometimes got to you slightly, but every time you finished your classes and saw Haechan waiting for you with his sunshine smile, you found all your worries melting off you.
You had always met some pretty cool people wherever you went, but you had never met anyone quite like Haechan, nor had you ever expected to. You already knew that he was something you would miss about this town when you inevitably left.
‘Bye Dad!’ You shouted through your house, a similar response coming from his study as you walked out of the front door. Even though you didn’t have class until late morning on a Tuesday, you and Haechan made it a tradition to grab a coffee together before it started.
And as you turned around there he was. Leaning out of the open window of his car grinning at you.
You smiled back in greeting, before climbing into the passenger seat, grabbing that aux cable he had offered you, and setting down as he took off.
Haechan had officially entrusted you with the music, naming you the car DJ much to Jaemin’s discontent. You were often on the receiving end of his whiny complaints about the injustice and unfair treatment he was getting.
Haechan pulled into the street that your favourite bakery was one, parking his car swiftly before you both made you way into the shop. You had arrived a little later than usual due to traffic, so you quickly approached the counter.
You leant forwards, catching the barista’s attention and gave them a smile before telling them your order.
‘Hi! Please can I have one Caramel Frap with coffee, one chocolate chip cookie, one Doubleshot Vanilla Iced coffee and one brownie please?’
The barista nodded, handing you the card machine as you quickly tapped your phone before Haechan could complain. You turned around, expecting to see him watching you in surprise, but instead he was nowhere to be seen.
The barista handed you the cookie and brownie in a bag before they moved to make your coffees as Haechan jogged into the shop.
‘Left my phone in my car.’ He explained before moving towards the counter.
‘Here.’ You said, offering him the bag which held his brownie. ‘Your coffee is on the way.’
Haechan reached for the bag slowly, confusion all over his face as he looked inside it.
‘I got you a Doubleshot Vanilla Iced coffee.’ You informed him, relishing in the way his face lit up with excitement at the mention of his favourite drink.
‘Why- You didn’t have to do this!’ Haechan whined. ‘I’ll pay you back!’
‘No you won’t.’ You said firmly, ignoring his protests. ‘I never paid you back for the first time we got a coffee together so this counts for then. Now we’re even.’
‘How did you know what to get me though?’ Haechan wondered, looking up at the menu.
‘I remembered?’ You offered, laughing at him slightly. ‘Plus you mentioned it to me a couple of days ago that it was your favourite so I thought it was safest to go with that one.’
You head turned towards the counter as your name was called, signalling that your drinks were ready. You walked over to collect them, missing the way Haechan watched you go with the softest smile on his face.
You handed him his drink as the two of you made your way back to his car.
‘Ready for class?’ You asked, groaning slightly at the thought of your history lecture that was looming.
But he didn’t reply, instead just looked at you. You tilted your head in confusion at him, wondering why he wasn’t starting the car.
‘Haechan?’ You asked and something in him seemed to wake up.
‘Hyuck.’ He corrected, turning away from you and beginning to drive away. ‘Call me Hyuck.’
You couldn’t help the small smile that spread across your face as you cruised through the streets.
‘Hyuck...’ You repeated to yourself under your breath, unaware of the way that Hyuck’s lips twitched upwards into a smile slightly as you did.
---
For the next two weeks you fully utilised your new privilege, calling him Hyuck at every opportunity you had. You also couldn’t stop yourself because every time you called him Hyuck, he would turn around to look at you with the largest grin on his face. There was no lying that both of you were happy with the rapid speed the two of you were becoming so close you were almost inseparable.
You were lying in your bed on Friday night, your chemistry textbook and worksheets from hours ago lay abandoned on your desk as you stared up at your ceiling. Your final lecture had been cancelled, so you originally planned to come back and try to get some work done. Only, once you started did you realise that your mind was just a fuzzy mess and there was no way you were going to get through it.
Instead you decided to go to sleep, hoping that some rest would help you clear your head and you’d feel more refreshed the next morning. However, your attempt to get an early night for once was disrupted by your mind and body purely refusing to let sleep take you.
You groaned, rolling over on to your side and staring at your clock. The numbers shined brightly in your face, the red 2:08am reflecting off your eyes as you stared at them. Turns out it was Saturday morning.
You were just about to give up and go downstairs to watch something, when you noticed your phone screen suddenly light up. You grabbed your phone and lifted it to your face to see a text sitting on your home screen.
Hyuck: yo
Hyuck: are you awake
You grinned at your phone, texting back a quick reply.
You: yeah
You: couldn’t sleep. why
Hyuck: come outside
You furrowed your eyebrows at that, silently moving to your window and pulling the curtains back. You looked down at your drive and saw Hyuck’s car sitting there with him in the driver’s seat staring up at your window. You made eye contact with him and he nodded towards his empty passenger seat. You held up a finger, asking him to wait a minute, and you shut your curtain again.
You quickly grabbed a pair of shoes and ran out of your bedroom, making sure to grab your keys on your way. You made your way through your house, leaving a quick note for your dad in case he woke up and thought you had disappeared, and slipped as silently as you could out of your front door, jogging down to the car that was waiting for you.
‘God it’s cold out there!’ You exclaimed, rubbing your arms to warm yourself up as you directed the heaters in his car towards you.
Hyuck raised his eyebrows at you, replying sarcastically.
‘Well, maybe if you’d worn more than a thin t shirt in October this wouldn’t be a problem.’
You looked down at what you were wearing, huffing when you realised he was right. Your choice of pyjamas, a t-shirt and jogging bottoms, while comfortable, were not doing much to battle the cold night air. You opened the door to run back inside and grab a jumper but Hyuck stopped you.
‘Don’t worry, I had a feeling you would do this, so I came prepared.’ He leaned backwards, reaching into his back seat and pulled out a hoodie of his before dropping it into your lap. ‘Here, wear this.’ He told you, quickly turning his attention back to his car as he got it started.
You looked down at the hoodie in your lap, unable to stop yourself from smiling slightly, and you whispered a quick thanks. You pulled it over your head, allowing yourself to be submerged in the soft fabric. The first thing you noticed was Hyuck scent taking over your being. You were surrounded by him and it was much more comforting than you were expecting.
Unknown to you, Hyuck found himself unable to take his eyes off you. Seeing you in his hoodie made his heart beat a lot faster than he was willing to admit, and, if he was being honest, he didn’t want you to ever take it off.
Hyuck began to drive and you found yourself automatically reaching for the aux cable. You decided to play one of your favourite songs that you hadn’t heard in a while, and soon ‘(Un)Lost’ by ‘The Maine’ gently filled the car, immediately reinforcing the relaxed atmosphere.
‘You hungry?’ Hyuck asked, and you shrugged slightly.
‘I could go for some ramen to be honest.’ You replied. ‘What’s going to be open at this hour though?’ You looked out of your window and found yourself filled with confusion. ‘Where even are we?’
‘Somewhere I like to come when I can’t sleep.’ He answered you. ‘Also, don’t worry, I know a place to eat.’
You hummed in response, trusting Hyuck’s judgement when it came to food. You had learnt that he always knew the best places. You couldn’t help the feeling of deja vu you were having, flashbacks to the time you and Hyuck first got coffee together and he refused to tell you where you were going, travelled through your head.
You stared out of the window, trying to recognise any of your surroundings, but you were on an empty road with trees on either side of you. If you weren’t with Hyuck you would have been terrified.
Eventually, he began to slow down, and you spotted a neon lit diner to your right. Hyuck drew the car to a halt and you both climbed out. He noticed the slightly nervous look on your face as your eyes darted across the dark woods surrounding you, and held out a hand. You smiled shyly, reaching out for him. The second you felt his hand in yours, you immediately relaxed and allowed Hyuck to pull you towards the diner.
A small bell sounded, signalling your arrival as Hyuck pushed the door open, and a man who you assumed was around mid-twenties appeared from the back. One look at the two of you and his face lit up into the biggest smile.
‘Donghyuck! Welcome back!’ He exclaimed, throwing his arms out to the side for emphasis.
‘Hi Johnny.’ Hyuck laughed, bringing you forwards as the tall male came around the counter to give him a hug. He pulled away from the hug and turned towards you. ‘Johnny, this is y/n. Y/n, this is Johnny, he runs this diner.’
‘Ahhhh, so this is the famous y/n!’ Johnny laughed, turning towards you. ‘It’s nice to finally meet you.’
‘It’s nice to meet you too.’ You replied, slightly taken aback at how nice this guy was.
‘So the usual?’ Johnny asked Hyuck and he nodded in response. ‘Anything for you, y/n?’
‘Surprise me.’ You said, having no idea what this place even offered, and Johnny nodded, his large smile never leaving his face.
‘Oh, Taeil is in the kitchen tonight if you want to say hi.’ Johnny said, turning back to Hyuck. Hyuck’s eyes lit up at the mention of Taeil and he turned to you, telling you he’d be back in a second.
‘Don’t rush, Hyuck.’ You laughed. It was clear from Hyuck’s expression that he hadn’t seen this Taeil in a while.
‘Tell him the order while you’re there?’ Johnny shouted, getting a shout back in reply. Johnny chuckled to himself, offering you a seat by the island and sitting next to you. ‘You know, Donghyuck talks about you a lot when he’s here.’
Your eyes shot up to his, your eyebrows lifting slightly in surprise and he nodded.
‘Yeah, you must mean a lot to him. Not only are you wearing his hoodie and you get to call him Hyuck, but he brought you here. That’s something...’
‘What makes you say that?’ You asked, sending Johnny an appreciative smile as he poured you a glass of water.
‘This is his safe space, the place where he comes whenever he wants to escape. Mainly from other people.’ Johnny gestured around him, and you followed his movements, your eyes resting on the seats, tables and jukeboxes that decorated this place.
‘I don’t get it, why would that make me important to him?’ You asked, looking at Johnny once more.
‘Well, most of the time, when you want to escape from something, you don’t bring the thing you’re running from with you. Donghyuck has never brought anyone here, not even Jaemin, and those two grew up together. So for him to bring you here, you must be something pretty damn special.’
You were speechless by the time Johnny had finished. You had been completely unaware of just how much Hyuck had cared for you. You weren’t even aware of the smile that was stretching across your face until Johnny chuckled.
‘I can see he’s special to you too.’
You looked back at him and nodded.
‘I...’ You swallowed slightly before speaking again. ‘I wasn’t expecting to care for someone this much.’
Johnny lifted up a hand, placing it on your shoulder and squeezing gently. You found the gesture surprisingly reassuring and you sent him a grateful smile.
‘For what it’s worth, you two make a good pair.’ Johnny said. ‘I’m glad he’s found someone he cares for this much.’
At the moment a laughing Donghyuck came bursting back through the kitchen doors, quickly followed by a slightly shorter male who you assumed was Taeil. Taeil looked up and saw you.
‘This is y/n?’ He asked Hyuck, who nodded in confirmation.
You stood up to greet him, placing your water on the counter as you did so.
‘It’s nice to meet you.’
‘You too, I’m Taeil.’ Taeil introduced himself, and you smiled at him.
Hyuck held up two boxes of ramen, the smell making your mouth water.
‘Shall we?’
---
You sat on the hood of Hyuck’s car and looked out over the skyline. The entire city was illuminated, the lights shining through the darkness and creating bright patterns in the night. You were mesmerised by the sight in front of you, the beauty of the twinkling lights demanding your attention.
The two of you were currently at the look out point which Hyuck had pointed out to you the day you had first met. It was a cliff edge that you could drive to, and it was only a couple of minutes away from the diner.
Your trip to the diner has been surprisingly entertaining. It was clear that Johnny and Taeil had known Hyuck and each other for a long time, but they made sure to welcome you and make sure that you felt comfortable. They wanted to know about the previous places you’d been to and any stories of your life or previous schools that you wanted to share. There was never an awkward moment, the three of them being so quick witted with their humour that you were in stitches the entire time. It felt as though you had spent the past half an hour laughing with old friends.
You didn’t know how long it had been since you’d felt an environment like that.
Hyuck was silently watching you, studying the reflection of the city lights in your eyes and wondering what was going through your mind. He eventually forced himself to tear his eyes away from you and back to the scenery in front of him. This view was normally the only that could set his mind at ease no matter what he was feeling, but after today, after seeing you interact so well with the friends he called his family, after seeing how beautiful you looked in his hoodie, how ethereal you were sat on his car in the moonlight... all Hyuck wanted to do was kiss you.
‘I’ve got to say, out of all the places I’ve lived, this is my favourite view.’ You softly broke the silence and Hyuck found his gaze wandering back towards you again.
‘Can I ask you something?’ He asked and you hummed in response. ‘How many places have you lived?’
You turned your head towards his and thought for a second.
‘Honestly... there’s been so many, I don’t think I could tell you the exact number.’ You told him. ‘I’ve moved around since I was a kid, we rarely stayed anywhere longer than one year before we headed to a new city which always seemed to be as far away from the previous one as you could possibly get. My dad’s job requires him to move wherever the company asks him to move, so we’ve never really had a choice. It’s nice, I guess, I get to see all these amazing places and travel so much already, but...’ You trailed off, unsure whether to continue.
‘But?’ Hyuck encouraged, looking at you with nothing but support in his eyes.
‘But it’s hard.’ You admitted. ‘People don’t really see how difficult it is. Everyone sees me as the lucky one, they tell me they wish they could travel like me, and see all the things I’ve seen. Someone even once told me that they wished they could only live in one place for one year before moving on, because then they wouldn’t have to worry about caring for anyone but themselves. Sometimes, for me, it really feels like that. But that it’s a good feeling. I’ve never lived anywhere longer than a year. I’ve even never lived anywhere long enough to call it home. I’ve never had a friendship, or relationship of any kind for that matter, that didn’t end a month after I moved away.’
‘You have your parents though, right?’ Hyuck asked, and you nodded in response.
‘Yeah, I have my dad. My mum, umm, she-’ You paused for a minute to take a breath. ‘She didn’t like the constant moving, she always said she found it too difficult. So, when I was nine, she decided she wasn’t going to move on with us. One night, she packed her bags, walked out the house and never came back. I haven’t seen her since.’ You confessed. You had never told anyone that, yet somehow, it felt safe to tell Hyuck.
‘I’m sorry.’ Hyuck offered and you sent him a smile.
‘It’s okay, it was a really long time ago.’ You tried to reassure him, even though you knew it wasn’t very convincing. ‘Moving like this... it’s a lot more lonely than you think it is.’
Hyuck moved himself slightly closer to you so that you were almost touching. He lifted his hand, and gently tucked your hair behind your ear before cradling your face.
‘You don’t have to be alone here. I’m going to be right beside you.’ He promised, the sincerity in his voice scaring you slightly. You knew that he meant it with every fibre of his being.
You didn’t know who leaned in first, nor did you care, but, either way, the two of you began to lean in. Your lips were almost touching when you stopped. Hyuck, noticing your movements, stopped immediately as well, his lips so close that his breath was gently fanning your face.
‘I’m leaving at the end of this year.’ You whispered, not moving away from him.
‘So we have two thirds of it left.’ Hyuck argued, his thumb gently stroking your face.
‘I’ll break your heart.’ Your voice was even softer than before, wavering slightly with emotion as your eyes fluttered shut.
‘It’ll be worth it.’ Hyuck whispered back, before you allowed him to finally close the distance.
He pressed his lips to yours, it was sweet, innocent and everything that a first kiss should be. You lifted up your hand to rest them on his wrists as he pulled away. He moved his hands away from your face and brought them down to your waist, pulling you closer and you wound yours around his neck.
You leant in again, this time kissing him with more passion. You were so overwhelmed with how much Hyuck cared for you, and how much you cared for him that all you wanted to do was show him, and this was the only way you knew you. Neither of you said it, but you both knew this was the start of your relationship, a secret kiss in a hidden place, with only the stars in the sky as your witnesses. And, honestly, it couldn’t be more perfect.
---
You closed the front door as quietly as you could, wincing as the lock audibly clicked into place. You briefly stopped to grab the note you had written for your dad before leaving and scrunched it up into a little ball before throwing it away. You then began to make your way through your house, tiptoeing silently past your dad’s room before making it into the safety of your own.
You fell into bed, pulling the covers up and smiling happily into them. No one had ever made you feel this way, and you couldn’t imagine ever feeling this way about anyone else.
There was something about Hyuck that made you want to just do things. Not in a “throw caution to the wind and cause chaos” kind of way, but in a motivational kind of way. He made you want to work harder, to fight for what you want, to always give people a chance to see the real them, to say yes more.
You couldn’t imagine what your life would be like if you hadn’t followed him out of the window on the first day. And if you could do it all again, you knew, you wouldn’t change a thing. You pulled the sleeves of Hyuck’s hoodie down over your fingers as you found yourself, once again, comforted by his scent.
It was only then that you realised you had forgotten to give it back, quickly reaching for your phone to text him.
You: i still have your hoodie
Hyuck: keep it for now
Hyuck: you can give it back to me at school on monday
Hyuck: or you can wear it
Hyuck: actually no
Hyuck: please wear it
You: i promise
You: night hyuck x
Hyuck: night
Hyuck: sleep well <3
---
You had kept your promise to Hyuck, wearing his hoodie into school and you were blown away by the amount of attention it had gathered. You would have thought that people would have more interesting things to talk about, but the main conversation topic in the corridors for the past week, was yours and Hyuck’s relationship.
Today was the Wednesday of the week after that Monday. You had a single lecture in the afternoon, while Hyuck was stuck in school until the end of the day. You had never been happier to hear the bell ring, signalling your escape from the most painfully boring Chemistry lecture of your life. You exited the classroom, laughing with Hyunjin as you complained about the hell you had just been put through.
He waved you a friendly goodbye, one which you returned before you walked towards your locker. You placed your books inside it and closed the door, making sure to lock it shut. You turned around, almost jumping out of your skin when you spotted three girls waiting for you to finish.
‘Can I help you?’ You asked, confused beyond belief as to why they were silently standing by your locker.
The one in the middle spoke first.
‘We just want to look out for you honey. Haechan is bad news, and we don’t want you to get hurt.’
You frowned at them in disbelief, wondering why on earth they were telling you this. You had never even seen any of them around Hyuck before.
‘Yeah, he’s a bad boy for a reason and we’re just worried that you're blinded by his charms. We’ve all fallen for it at some point, and we don’t want you to get manipulated like the rest of us.’ The brunette on the left piped up as you rolled your eyes.
‘Ok, this is very.... weird. Also, it’s not really any of your business, so thanks for your concern, but I’m fine by myself.’ You picked your bag up from the floor, swinging it over your shoulder.
As if a switch had been pressed, the expressions on the girls faces changed in a flash. Gone were the sympathetic looks and wide eyes as judgemental gazes and cocky smirks replaced them.
‘I don’t know who you think you are, but you’re not the golden girl. You’re not the exception to the rule, the one who’s going to be able to change him, so stop trying. You’re not that special. You’re wasting your time and you’re going to end up with a broken heart.’ The one of the right spat, surprising you with her sudden change of tone.
‘She’s right.’ The middle one took charge again. ‘He’s nothing more than a cigarette puffing, selfish asshole. Just remember, we’ll be here when it all goes to shit.’
They began to strut their way down the corridor, leaving a very confused you standing by your locker.
‘Y/n?’ A voice suddenly rang out. You turned towards the sound to see Jaemin coming towards you. ‘What was that all about?’
---
You sat next to Jaemin on a bench at the nearby park. You dragged him down the river to find a deserted area, before sitting down to explain what had happened. Jaemin had insisted that you talk him through it, not wanting you to feel alone.
‘-so they reassured me that it was going to fail, no matter what.’ You finished, staring at the river in front of you.
Jaemin didn’t respond for a minute, just watched you as you finished speaking. Eventually, he broke the silence between the two of you.
‘You know, something that comes with having a reputation like Hyuck’s, is that everyone puts their own spin on it. Everybody likes to come up with new things that he’s done or find a rumour that sounds like him and spread it. He’s been ignoring it for god knows how long, but that doesn’t stop it from happening. I’m not going to tell you how to feel, that’s not my job. However, I am going to tell you this.’
Jaemin readjusted his seating, moving so that he was facing you more. You mimicked him, turning your side towards the water.
‘Hyuck is brave, and self assured, and confident, and cocky, but, just like everybody else, he has his weakness. And for him, it’s love. He’s completely terrified of falling in love. When Hyuck slept around last year, he didn’t do it just cause he wanted sex, or cause it was a confidence boost to get those girls. He did it because he wanted company, because he was lonely. But, he could never let it be for longer than one night because then he was putting himself at risk.’
‘At risk of what?’ You asked, and Jaemin sighed before continuing.
‘Of getting attached, of catching feelings, of being vulnerable, of caring. Hyuck’s afraid of falling in love with someone because, if he does that, then there’s no turning back. He’s at their mercy, and no one will have the power over him that that person does. And that terrifies him.’
You nodded as Jaemin spoke, taking in every detail. When he finished you leaned back on the bench, this time staring up at the clouds as they passed. Jaemin had made a lot of sense and, although you would never admit it, you did understand his fear of being in love.
‘I care about him.’ You began as Jaemin looked back towards you. ‘I care about him a lot. But there’s this part of my brain that’s telling me he’s got a reputation for a reason. That this only has one ending and I’m kidding myself if I think I’m any different from the previous girls.’
‘You’re kidding yourself if you think you’re anything like them.’ Jaemin huffed. ‘And, if you’re going to think like that, if that’s going to dominate your mind, then honestly, you should spare Hyuck the pain. After everything, he deserves to actually have someone who loves him, not someone who doubts him. If you can’t see past his reputation, then it’s not fair to string him along.’
You could tell from Jaemin’s eyes that he meant every word. As soon as he said that, it was like a cloud had been lifted, clearing your vision. You leant forward, forcing him to look at you while you spoke truthfully.
‘I’m not going to judge him on his reputation. I don’t want to. I care about him, and that’s all that matters. And I don’t care about what other people think about him, because I know him.’
Jaemin nodded at you, a smile forming on his face.
‘Good.’ He looked down at his watch. ‘Aren’t you supposed to be meeting him at yours tonight?’ He asked, looking back up at you.
You pulled out your phone, checking the time and your eyes widened. You and Jaemin had spoken for a lot longer than you had thought, and at this rate, Hyuck was going to beat you back to your house. You stood up, thanking Jaemin before giving him a quick hug and running home to Hyuck.
---
One takeaway, four movies and three deep conversations later, Hyuck had fallen asleep. You quietly closed your laptop, placing it on the floor as you climbed out of your bed. You picked up the food containers, carrying them downstairs to the kitchen as you cleaned up slightly.
You dropped the takeaway boxes into the bin, before washing your hands. You thought for a second before grabbing two glasses, which you filled up with water and made your way back to your bedroom.
When you arrived, you spent a short amount of time standing in the doorway and just watched Hyuck sleep. He looked so angelic when he slept, all the stress and worries of the day melted off his features. You placed the water next to your side, moving around the bed to place the second one next to him.
You stepped forward, lightly grabbing the blanket and pulling it up to cover him with it. You lifted up a hand, placing it in his hair and you gently stroked it. He let out a contented hum in his sleep and you smiled down at him. You removed your hand, replacing it with your lips for a soft kiss on his temple and then proceeded to stand up and move around to your side of the bed.
You lifted up the covers and climbed in. Hyuck, as if sensing the sudden weight, rolled over, his arm finding its way around your waist before you had even laid down properly. His other one snuck underneath you, unnoticed by you until you lay down and found your head resting on it. Hyuck tightened his grip, pulling you close into his chest as you were surrounded by his embrace.
As much as you loved sleeping in his hoodies, this was by far the better option. You rested one hand on his chest, the other one winding around his waist and you curled up as close to him as you could.
You shut your eyes, letting your mind drift back to the conversation you had with Jaemin earlier, and the unprovoked attack from the girls in the hallway, and, easily, you came to one very solid conclusion.
The girls in the hallway may have been talking about Haechan, the rumours, the past mistakes and the persona, but you knew Donghyuck. You knew the boy that would stay up until 2am watching movies and chatting with you about life because you couldn’t sleep. You knew the boy that pulled you closer to him, even when he was fast asleep. You knew the real Donghyuck, and you were getting very scared that you were falling in love with him.
---
Time started to pass faster and, before you knew it, another month had passed. Your father had met Hyuck officially as your boyfriend and loved him. You had met Hyuck’s parents too, thankfully getting on their good sides even though they weren’t around much. You had managed to convince Hyuck to quit smoking, something that he had found surprisingly easy. Any time you asked how he did it, he’d claim that you were more addictive than any cigarette ever could be and give you a sweet kiss. Hyuck had been the perfect boyfriend to you, caring, fun, teasing and through it all, he still felt like your best friend.
You were preparing to head off and see him today. You grabbed your phone and keys before leaving your room and jogging down the stairs. You landed gently at the bottom and began to head straight for the door when you heard your father’s voice.
‘Y/n? Will you come in here for a minute sweetheart?’
You followed his voice into his study to find his standing by his desk, his phone in his hand.
‘Dad? Is everything okay? I’m meeting Hyuck in like ten minutes so I can’t be long.’ You said, checking your phone for the time.
Your father turned around to face you, leaning backwards so that he was sitting on the desk behind him.
‘Yes of course! Sorry, I’ll try to make it quick. Would you be happy to stay here for a bit longer than normal?’ He asked, getting straight to the point since he knew you had places to be.
‘Like this town?’ You wondered and your father nodded.
‘Yes, right here. In the same town and same house. Would you be okay with staying here for longer?’ You father spoke, this time raising his eyebrows in question.
‘How much longer?’ You asked, remaining suspicious and skeptical so that you didn’t get your hopes up.
‘Well, I’ve been offered a permanent position here, and I accepted it. So as long as you like.’ You jaw dropped at his words, unable to process what he was saying.
‘No more moving?’ You asked him.
‘No more moving.’ He confirmed and you burst out into a happy laugh, running forwards to hug him.
‘Oh my god, Dad that’s amazing! I’m so happy for you!’ You gushed, pulling out of the hug to see his smiling face.
‘So you’re happy to stay here?’ He asked and you grinned back at him.
‘I think I’d be okay with that.’
---
You made your way through Hyuck’s house, stopping only to briefly wave at his parents, before arriving at his room. You could hear him talking inside, so you entered as quietly as you could. He turned around as you entered, smiling and coming towards you to place a soft kiss on your cheek before turning his attention back to his phone call. The smile hadn’t left your face since your dad had told you his news, and you couldn’t wait to tell Hyuck.
He walked towards his window while talking, clearly attempting to wrap up the conversation without being overly rude. You approached his desk, chuckling at the piles of papers and discarded assignments that lay on it. Hyuck never was one for keeping things neat. You tilted your head slightly as one piece in particular caught your eye.
You reached for it, pulling it out from the bottom of the pile and scanned the words, your heart sinking as you did. The title as the top stood out the most: “the to-DO list”.
As you read further and further down the page you saw name after name of different girls in the school, and next to them were a short list of pros and cons, and the number of points they were worth. There were even lines though some of the names with ticks next to them, which you could only assume meant that they were checked off.
You recognised Siyeon and Momo’s names, neither of them having a cross through, but you also recognised the names of the “Welcoming Committee”. They were the same girls who cornered you in the corridor to warn you about Hyuck, and you ignored them. All three of their names were on the list, and all three of them had lines through them.
When your eyes reached the bottom of the page, your heart stopped. You forgot how to breath and you felt as though time suddenly stood still. You stared at the final name, the latest addition to the list that had the highest points and a bright red line through it.
Y/n Y/l/n - 150 points
Pros: new kid, gullible, not around for long, won’t stay to cause you trouble
Cons: defensive, needs effort to be worn down, not as easy as previously assumed
You stared at your name, the tears that filled your eyes blurring it slightly, but not making it any less real. This was a game. Hyuck and his friends were playing a game about who could get the most of the girls. You were just a target to him, something to tick off his list. And he had.
You registered Hyuck hanging up the phone and you furiously blinked away your tears.
‘Sorry about that. I was trying to-’ Hyuck stopped talking mid-sentence, his phone falling from his grip in shock when you turned around with the list in your hand. His eyes shot from the paper to you again, but one look at your face told him everything he needed to know.
‘What’s this?’ You whispered, holding up the piece of paper for him to see.
You watched as Hyuck’s jaw dropped and fear and panic took over his features. His mouth opened and closed repeatedly like a fish out of water.
‘What is this?’ You asked again, articulating every word. ‘Please tell me it’s not what I think it is. Tell me that this isn’t some sick game, that- that I’m just some game to you.’
You watched as Hyuck struggled to form a reply, obviously lost for words at what was happening.
‘I swear to god Hyuck, you better tell me the truth right now or I am gonna walk out of that door and I am not coming back.’ You kept your head up, refusing to let him see how affected by this you were more than he already had.
‘Tell me!’ You shouted, your temper flaring as your patience ran thin.
That seemed to finally get through to Hyuck, his eyes snapped towards your face as he stuttered out some weak reply.
‘No- no- no it’s -it’s not what you... No y/n I don’t... I can’t explain it I just-’ Hyuck looked at you, his eyes full of desperation but you couldn’t find it in you to feel sympathy for him.
You let out an empty laugh, one of pure disbelief at your own foolishness. You couldn’t believe that you really thought you were important to him. It’s Lee Donghyuck for Christ’s sake. He has a reputation for a reason. What made you think you were special enough to break that?
You swallowed, lifting your eyes to Hyuck’s once more and realised that you didn’t know a thing about the boy who stood before you. You opened your mouth and, with a shaky voice, you spoke.
‘You know, I was told by so many people that I wasn’t the exception to the rule, I wasn’t the golden girl, I- I wasn’t the one who could change your ways or prove that you were more than just a cigarette puffing, leather jacket wearing, selfish ass hole. But, god... I really hoped I was. And for a minute there, I actually believed it... you actually let me believe it. Maybe that’s why this hurts so much.’
‘Y/n please-’ He began, reaching out for you with one arm but stopped cold at your next words.
‘Save it, Haechan.’ Your use of Haechan instead of Hyuck struck Donghyuck right to his core. You hadn’t called him Haechan in the two months since he’d given you permission to use Hyuck, instead taking pride in the fact that you were close to him to not only call him by his real name, but by his nickname. When you used Haechan, he felt as though someone had picked up a blade of ice and driven it straight into his heart.
He had no idea why this was hurting him so bad. He knew from the moment he walked in and saw that look on your face that something was wrong. He never liked seeing you upset, but watching that door slam behind you, he never would have been able to presume that him being the cause of your upset would have been so heart wrenching.
There’s something about knowing that you’re the reason that the person you love most in the world is crying, that can rip a man’s heart in two. And for the first time in his life, Donghyuck began to experience what heartbreak was like.
---
You ran out of the door, tearing down the streets as fast as the tears were running down your face. You felt small, you felt ridiculous, you felt humiliated, you felt as though you were five years old again. And all you wanted to do was run away.
The irony was impossible to ignore. Your entire life, you had hated moving. Always leaving everyone behind, allowing them to forget you and forcing yourself to forget them. Every city, town or village you had lived in, you had wanted to stay, make friendships that would last a lifetime, fall in love, grow old in the same place you grew up, but you never could. Now for the first time in your life you were finally staying in one place, a place that you were supposed to call home, and yet, you wanted nothing more than to leave it.
---
‘Ok, I’m just going to say it. You’ve done a lot worse to a lot of other girls and you’ve never had this severe of a reaction before. Why now? What’s so special about this one that she’s the reason you’re suddenly experiencing the feeling of guilt?’ Jaemin leaned forwards towards his friend, hoping to finally get a solid answer out of him.
Jaemin had received an SOS text from Donghyuck and immediately moved to meet him at the local bar. He was currently sat across from the aforementioned, watching as his friend had a mini meltdown in front of him. This was the most emotional that Jaemin had seen Donghyuck in a while, and he knew that there was something about you that Donghyuck was refusing to admit.
‘I don’t know, but when I was standing there, looking at her face as these tears began to fall... all I wanted to do was to run up to her and wipe them away. To hold her and reassure her that... that I’m going to be the one to protect her from harm, not cause it, that I’m going to be the one who she’s safe with, the one who provides her comfort, the one who...’ Donghyuck trailed off at the end leaving Jaemin unable to catch what he was saying.
‘Alright, so here’s my next question: Why didn’t you?’ Jaemin raised an eyebrow at Donghyuck’s moping figure as his head shot up.
‘Why didn’t I what?’ Donghyuck questioned, too tired and emotionally worn out to actually think through what he was being asked.
Jaemin rolled his eyes so hard that he thinks he actually saw the one remaining braincell of his that had survived this conversation, the rest of them choosing to jump ship and abandon him.
‘Why didn’t you go elephant hunting? What do you think?! Why didn’t you do all those things you wanted to? Why didn’t you tell her how much she means to you?’
Donghyuck paused for a minute, thinking back to when he saw you standing there, completely vulnerable, with all your walls down for just him to see.
‘I was scared...’ He admitted, looking up at his friend slowly. ‘I’ve never felt like this before and I don’t know what it means to do this kind of stuff and be good at it. What if I told her the truth and she didn’t feel the same? What if I scared her away when I told her how I felt? I was scared that she wouldn’t want anything to do with me if I told her I loved her.’
Jaemin didn’t respond for a second, his mind taking it’s time to wrap around the fact that Donghyuck was in love. He knew that you meant more to Hyuck than he had ever let on, but Jaemin never would have expected for his friend to have fallen in love with you.
‘Donghyuck... I don’t think you’ll lose her if you tell her you love her. But I do think you may lose her if you don’t.’ Jaemin watched Donghyuck’s expression change as the realisation of the reality of Jaemin’s words dawned on him.
‘What do I do Jaemin?’ He asked, begging to know how to get you back.
‘Do what you couldn’t before.’ Jaemin told him. ‘Tell her the truth.’
---
You could feel all eyes on you as you walked through the main gates the following morning. It was the first time you had walked in by yourself, Haechan having insisted on driving you every morning he could, so this seemed to alert people that there was something wrong.
You held your head high and refused to let them see how emotional you were, biting the inside of your cheek anytime you could feel your eyes begin to water slightly. If it were up to you, you would have stayed at home today, choosing instead to drown yourself in chocolate and chick flicks, but, unfortunately, your dad was working from home so you had to come in.
You made your way towards your locker, unable to avoid making eye contact with a couple of people along the way. You accidentally caught eyes with the trio of girls who you had become all too familiar with from their welcome when you arrived and their more recent “friendly” advice by your locker.
‘Aww hun, we tried to warn you...’ They crowded you, one of them stroking your hair and all of them effectively drawing all the attention towards you once more. ‘We wanted to protect you from this...’
You tensed up, irritated and a little creeped out by the unwanted contact.
‘Fuck off!’ You spat, pushing them away from you. They stepped forwards again, obviously trying to paint themselves as your saviours in front of the rest of the school who were watching.
‘Sweetie, we just want to help! We knew this would happen and-’
You cut them off, speaking quietly at them through gritted teeth.
‘You don’t know shit about what happened. Stop pretending like you care about me and go back to whatever it is that you do, and leave me alone.’
With that, just like it had in the hallway, the fake smiles and false pretences melted off the three witches, as they rolled their eyes at you before strutting away. Gossiping just loud enough for you to hear.
‘If she actually thought that relationship was real she’s such an idiot.’
‘I know! I mean, it’s Haechan for crying out loud, is she dumb?’
You screwed your eyes shut, resting your forehead against your locker as everyone else began to disappear from around you. You took a deep breath, trying to calm yourself and opened your locker. An envelope fell out of it as the door opened, the white paper landing on your feet.
You looked down at it in confusion, bending down to pick it up. You turned it over and examined the messy handwriting on the front. You immediately recognised it at Haechan’s and your eyes flew back to your locker, scanning it to see if he had left anything else. Your gaze focused on a bar of chocolate, which you pulled out and examined.
You nodded in disbelief. Did he really think that a bar of chocolate and a letter would make up for all that happened? When he couldn’t even look you in the face and give it to you himself? You grabbed your books, slamming your locker shut out of anger. If Haechan actually wanted to make amends, he should stop being such a coward and have the courage to face you himself to say whatever he wanted to. You weren’t going to give him an easy way out.
Before you headed to your class you stopped briefly to dump the letter and chocolate in a nearby bin, unaware of Donghyuck’s teary eyes watching you as you did so.
---
You walked into the local bar, exhausted from the long day you had just had and desperate for a drink. The bar was a college bar, but it was famous amongst students to turning a blind eye towards seniors that may not be of legal drinking age yet.
That day, you had found flowers on your desk in History, your favourite coffee waiting for you at lunch and another letter and chocolate bar in your locker by the end of the day. By this point, you were fed up with it. Everyone had been pointing at you and watching you the entire day, trying to figure out what had happened, and these gifts were not helping to keep you away from everyone’s prying eyes.
All you wanted was to just sit at a booth by yourself and think for a minute before walking home. Unfortunately, life in the form of a slightly drunk baseball jock had other plans.
‘Hey there.’ He approached you, getting a bit too close for comfort.
‘Hi.’ You greeted politely, moving away from him slightly, an infuriated sigh falling from your lips when he followed you.
‘Don’t run from me. What do you say that you and I get out of here okay?’ He purred, his face coming closer to yours so that you could smell the alcohol on his breath. You pushed against his chest, the alcohol coursing through his system worsening his balance making him take a few steps back. ‘Feisty... I like that.’ He began to advance again, making you quickly speak up.
‘Okay first of all, I just want to get a drink. Second of all, why would I leave when I’ve just arrived? Third of all, why would I leave with you?’ You turned away from him, rolling your eyes as you did so.
However, the message didn’t seem to go through his thick skull, with him pushing himself right up against you, his hand dangerously low on your back and he whispered into your ear, making your skin crawl.
‘You’ll pay for that later sweetheart.’
‘Hey!’ A different voice cut through and before you could register what was going on, an arm had wound its way around your shoulder and successfully pulled you away from the creep. ‘Back off.’
‘What do you think you’re doing, Na?’ The baseball player asked, his eyes narrowing as he noticed Jaemin pulling you away from him.
‘Spending some time with my friend, now beat it beefcake.’ Jaemin kept one hand on you, moving his arm off your shoulder but staying close so that you were comfortable.
‘Well, get in line I saw her first.’ He leant forwards to grab you again, as if you were some kind of prize that he’d won.
‘She said no.’ Jaemin said calmly, watching as the jock’s face screwed up in frustration as he lunged for you again, hitting Jaemin’s free hand as he reached out to stop the drunk from touching you.
‘That doesn’t matter.’ He began to raise his voice, the alcohol in his system fuelling his idiotic actions.
‘Allow me to explain, and I’ll use small words so you’ll be sure to understand.’ You had to stop yourself from smiling slightly at Jaemin’s words, his sass never failed to make you laugh and the fact that a couple of people in the bar had turned their heads towards the commotion made it even better. There was now an audience to watch as Jaemin obliterated the drunk baseball player in front of you two. ‘No means no. I understand that may be hard for you to understand, having taken so many hits to the head, but welcome to the 21st century you warthog faced buffoon.’
With that he turned away, making sure to keep himself between you and that jerk and guided you towards an empty booth as the jock was escorted out of the bar for uncivil behaviour. He sat down across from you and quickly whipped out his phone asking if you wanted anything.
‘I was originally planning on just getting something that wasn’t too strong but after that little experience I think I’ll take a vodka coke, thanks.’ You breathed, enjoying the safety of the booth that you were sat in.
Jaemin simply nodded, tapping away on his phone before putting it back into his pocket.
‘What do I owe you?’ You asked, reaching for your own phone so that you could pull up your mobile banking but Jaemin shook his head.
‘Why don’t you just get the next round?’ He proposed and you nodded in agreement.
‘Sounds fair.’ You trailed off after that, silence falling over the two of you as you tried to figure out what to say.
‘Thank you...’ You began. ‘For stepping in like that, he wasn’t backing down and I don’t know what I would have done if you weren’t here.’ You were a little shaken up by it. Guys, especially drunk guys, had a tendency to be a bit gross and over comfortable but none of them had pursued and threatened you the way that guys had today.
‘Don’t mention it. He’s kinda famous for doing that kind of stuff, unfortunately people have just come to accept it. It’s fucked up.’ Jaemin chuckled. ‘People can get so used to seeing someone harass a woman that they begin to turn a blind eye.’
‘Yeah...’ You trailed off again, not sure how to respond.
Your drinks soon arrived, a waitress placing them down on the table in front of you. You reached out and grabbed the glass with your drink in as Jaemin picked up his. He lifted it to his lips and took a sip as you mirrored his actions with your own.
‘If you were meaning to catch Hyuck, he just left.’ Jaemin said suddenly, and you sent him a tight smile.
‘I wasn’t so don’t worry about it.’ You replied quickly, praying that this wouldn’t be the entirety of your conversation.
‘He misses you, you know?’ Jaemin continued softly, watching your face for any kind of reaction as you sighed.
‘Does he now?’ You muttered, staring into the dark brown drink in your hands.
‘Yes, y/n, he does.’ The certainty and clear frustration in Jaemin’s voice made you lift your eyes up to stare at him. ‘I’ve known Hyuck a long time and there’s something about you that’s stopped him in his tracks. He cares for you.’
‘He’ll move on. He always does, doesn't he? Soon he’ll stop wasting his money on the flowers or food and find his next girl to conquer. Don’t get mad at me for figuring out what was going on before he got the chance to pull the rug out from underneath my feet.’ You argued, slightly fed up that this was the only thing you could take about. You and Jaemin had always got along well so it upset and infuriated you that you had lost that relationship too.
Then Jaemin spoke again, this time the words that fell from his lips hitting you like a truck.
'Look, the list was never Hyuck’s idea to begin with, in fact he was really against it. The day you found it was the same day where he called our group to let them know that he was burning it, “it can only cause pain” were his words. The names that were crossed, weren’t crossed off by him. This old friend of ours, someone who we don’t speak to anymore after this, he heard about your relationship and gave Hyuck the list when he came back into town. Hyuck never wanted it, he never even looked at it once since he was given it, and he certainly didn’t care about it or use you just to cross your name off it. And the fact that you think that... y/n it’s killing him.’ He leant forwards as you averted your gaze, and forced you to look him in the eyes again. ‘Y/n, I've seen him work very hard to get girls and I've seen him work very hard to get rid of girls. I've never seen him work this hard to keep one around.’
And with that Jaemin stood, leaving the drink he barely touched sitting on the surface in front of you. You stared at it, not bothering to watch the boy leave as his last words swirled around in your head.
‘I’ve never seen him work this hard to keep one around.’
---
You stepped outside, shutting your front door behind you. You had arrived home from the bar to an empty house and having not felt like cooking, you decided to get a takeout. However, the one place you were really craving was only doing pickup so you had to walk there to order and get it. You pushed on the door, checking it was locked and then turned around, only to stop dead in your tracks when you found yourself face to face with Haechan.
The two of you just stared at each other, you refusing to speak first and, even though Haechan had practiced what he was going to say about a million times on the way over, all words had now left his mind. Eventually you just gave him a tight lipped smile and a nod and made to walk past him.
‘Wait! Y/n wait, please!’ Haechan called out and you slowed to a stop, lifting your eyes up to look at him once more. ‘I, um... I owe you an explanation.’
‘Really Haechan, you don’t have to it's pretty clear what was going on. It’s chill, we’re done and that’s fine. I’m just gonna do my thing and move on like I’d always planned and-’ You shrugged before getting cut off.
‘For the love of god y/n, would you please stop acting like everything’s fine and start dealing with your crap!’ Haechan snapped, causing you to look at him in shock. ‘Look, I’m sorry I snapped but... God, you don’t have to always pretend like it isn’t a big deal. You’re allowed to be upset about things. I hurt you, I know I did. You trusted me, confided in me, cared for me and I threw it all away, and it’s okay to be hurt by that. I’m not saying that I want you to feel hurt, obviously, but... not every has to mean nothing to you.’ Haechan was pretty much mumbling by the end of it, furious with himself for shouting at you when he was here to apologise.
‘Nothing? You think what happened meant nothing to me?’ You asked in disbelief. ‘Hyuck, when I saw that list, it was like everything I had ever thought, every reason I had ever had for keeping my walls up was proved true. I know it may seem like a small deal to some people, but it isn’t to me. It isn’t, okay? You lied to me, manipulated me for weeks, months even, and I feel like such an idiot. And don’t you dare think for one second that you mean nothing to me because the reason it hurt so much is because it was you. Nobody else has the power to hurt me and heal me like you do. And I keep my guard up, I keep my walls up, even when I’m upset, especially when I’m upset, because I don’t want someone to know what power they have over me. Because... if they see how much I care about them, how much I love them, what’s stopping them from using that against me? Once someone knows about it, I don’t have control over it anymore. Once someone knows about it, my heart is completely in the hands of, and at the mercy of, the person I love.’ You ranted, the tears in your eyes gathering rapidly as you tried with everything you could to blink them away. You never told people the truth about how you felt, scared about how they would react to the real you. In fact, telling Hyuck this was terrifying.
Hyuck stared at you with wide eyes, his expression, for once, was unreadable.
‘Love?’ He asked, hope reaching out across his face as you finally managed to get a read on him.
You swallowed, the fear that you had previously been trying to explain began to bubble up as you forced it back down.
‘Yes Hyuck, love...’
‘You’re calling me Hyuck...’ He pointed out, his voice just as soft as yours.
‘I guess I am.’
‘Do you love me?’
Your eyes shot up at his question, leaving their previous view of the tarmac of your drive and instead settling on Donghyuck’s brown eyes, ones that were currently glistening with tears.
‘Does it matter?’ You whispered. ‘It’s not going to change anything. It all still happened.’
‘But it didn’t! Well, it did, but I never wanted it to happen in the first place. I never wanted anything to do with that stupid list! I told him it would only hurt people and now I’ve gone and hurt the one person that I truly love and it’s not fair!’ Your eyes widened at his words, unable to process that fact that he just said love. Hyuck began to wind his hands through his hair as he continued his angry rant that wasn’t really directed at you but rather anyone who would listen. ‘I burnt it. I burnt the fucking list but it was too late and now it’s all a mess and it’s my fault cause I should have burnt it when I first got it. I never even scratched a name off, I’ve only spent time with you this year and I only ever wanted to and I want only you now and I’m not making sense anymore and-’
‘Hyuck!’ You interrupted, stopping him mid rant as his words began to turn to nonsense. His innocent doe eyes looked into yours and you refused to break eye contact. ‘Love?’ You asked, repeating Hyuck’s question from before.
You wanted as his demeanour completely changed. He forced some air into his lungs, dropping his shoulders as he took a deep breath. He lifted his head and locked eyes with you for the thousandth time that night, yet this felt very different. There was something in his gaze that held you captive, even if you had wanted to look away, you wouldn’t have been able to. Your eyes never left his, even as he began to speak and you saw the truth in his words through his sincere expression.
‘I’m not good at this. This kind of moment, this conversation where I admit how I’ve been feeling this entire time. I’m good with music, I’m good with food, I’m good with jokes and making people laugh, but... I’m really bad when it comes to looking someone in the eye and telling them how I feel. Especially if that means letting my walls down. I’m not here to tell you that I’m falling in love with you. I’m here to tell you that... I’ve already fallen. And I was terrified of falling for you, because it was so easy. The way you always remember my coffee order, or the way you drape a blanket over me when I fall asleep on the sofa, or the way that you made me care more about my life, about who I am and how I impact others. Loving you was so easy and that’s why it was so god damn terrifying. Because I couldn’t stop myself. No matter how hard I try, I can’t stop myself from being in love with you. I am utterly, hopelessly, irretrievably in love with you. More than you’ll ever know. And for the first time in my life, that doesn’t sound so scary.’
By this point, the tears that had been previously threatening to fall were now steadily making their way down his face. You knew that you looked no better, your vision was blurry and your throat was tight. He refused to look away from you, not even to wipe the tears from his face, instead, he kept talking.
‘And I know that this doesn’t change anything. You’re still leaving at the end of this year, but that’s just over seven months away. And, even though I know how it’s going to end, I want those seven months with you. I do. I want them more than anything. And I will do anything it takes to earn your trust back.’
There wasn’t a single speck of doubt in your body that Hyuck was telling the truth. This wasn’t Haechan speaking, this was Donghyuck, vulnerable, emotional and broken Donghyuck talking to you from his heart, begging for your forgiveness and understanding. You found it impossible to tear your gaze away from him, your eyes glued to his as you tried to come to a conclusion in your mind.
No matter how many times the irrational part of your brain tried to convince you this was all a trick, some elaborate scheme that will end up with you getting your heart broken, you couldn’t hear it. It was outweighed by the sheer volume of every atom, every fibre of your being screaming out for the boy you loved, for Donghyuck.
‘Hyuck, I love you... But I don’t want you to have only seven months with me.’ You began. Donghyuck’s face quickly fell, as if accepting defeat and he sadly nodded. ‘I want you to have more than that. And I know that it doesn’t seem possible, because I’m moving, but, what if I wasn’t...’ You trailed off as Hyuck’s eyes filled with hope.
‘What are you saying?’ He asked, his lips twitching as he fought back a grin. He had never wanted anything more than he wanted you to be saying what he thought you were saying.
‘I’m saying, my dad got offered a permanent position here, and he took it. I’m not moving. I’m staying here, in the only place on earth I want to stay. Because, here, I get to be with you.’ You revealed.
A second passed as the revelation sank in and Donghyuck’s face split into the biggest smile you had ever seen on him. He rushed forwards towards you, his arms making their way around your waist as your bodies crashed into each other. You wound your arms around his neck, dropping your head into his shoulder and feeling him do the same. You breathed in, savouring the feeling of being wrapped in his embrace, the place you had missed so much.
Hyuck eventually lifted his head out of your neck, looking you deep in the eyes before he leant his forehead on yours and breathed out a soft:
‘I’ve missed you.’
You couldn’t stop the smile that grew on your face, nor could you stop your reply.
‘I missed you too.’
You pulled your forehead away from his, watching as his gaze flickered down to your lips and back up again, a questioning look in his eyes. You nodded, giving permission and Hyuck wasted no time in pressing his lips to yours.
You could have sworn fireworks went off. You had never understood that saying until that very moment, but right there, you felt an explosion of love that you hadn’t known was possible. You pressed yourself into him as his arms pulled you as close as possible until there wasn’t any space between your bodies.
You both pulled away to catch your breath, yet neither of you moved away from the other at all. You stayed just as close as you had been, with Hyuck’s arms never loosening from around your waist. He couldn’t stop himself from laughing slightly, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
‘I love you.’ He laughed, provoking a chuckle out of you too.
‘I love you more.’ You replied, grinning up at him as he raised an eyebrow at you.
‘Not possible.’ He answered back, his voice softening as he leant down to kiss you once more.
Hyuck kissed you again, and again, and again. He kissed you throughout the whole night, only stopping to whisper confessions of his love or to attempt to pull you closer to him than you already were. He came with you to pick up some takeout, he also insisted on paying, but even when waiting for the food, he held you tightly in a back hug.
He pulled your legs over his on the sofa at yours as he fed you your takeout while you watched a movie together. And he kept his tight grip on you as you went to sleep, tangled up together like vines, so intertwined that it seemed impossible to pull them apart.
Hyuck never ended up telling you why he held you so tightly that night. In his defence, you never really asked, and, as much as Hyuck allowed himself to be vulnerable and honest around you, this was something that he kept as his own little secret. As his own little confession. Whenever Hyuck was struggling, he just thought back to this night and how amazing it felt to finally have the girl he loved wrapped in his arms, with the knowledge that she will still be there when he wakes up.
He had finally found someone who he loved and would do anything for, and he never wanted to let you go.
---
Not even one month later, it was the Winter Formal. The school had decided to put a monumental amount of effort into it, hiring out a local ballroom and turning it into a winter wonderland, complete with fake snow, white trees, gentle lighting and sparkly white silk hanging around the room. You would be lying if you said that your breath wasn’t completely taken away when you walked in.
Yet none of it compared to the feeling of walking in with Hyuck on your arm.
Hyuck had surprised, not only you, but the entire school it seemed when he walked in with a smart suit on, a white flower in the pocket and green tie neatly around his neck. It seemed as though all eyes were on the two of you when you entered the hall, and you were sure that Hyuck’s look was something to do with it.
Of course he disagreed. He insisted that it was all to do with the green gown that you were wearing, claiming the way it hugged your figure in all the right places and the slit in the thigh made you look like a dream. Walking out of your house to meet Hyuck and seeing his jaw literally drop was a major confidence boost. That boy knew how to make you feel good about yourself.
You met your friends at the dance, and not even two minutes after arriving, were immediately pulled onto the dance floor by Jaemin.
‘You guys look good!’ He commented, flashing you his million dollar smile. ‘Probably the best out of everyone here. ’
‘Well we thought it was best to make an impression.’ You shrugged, grinning back at him.
Just as Hyuck opened his mouth to reply, your maths professor walked past, unable to stop himself from commenting.
‘Nice to see you finally put some effort into your appearance Haechan.’
‘Thank you sir. You too!’ Hyuck replied cheekily, before turning back to the two of you with a confused look on his face.
‘Was it just me or was that a little bit weird?’ He asked the two of you.
‘Just a bit, yeah!’ You replied, laughing as Jaemin agreed with you.
The music began to slow down and Jaemin, not wanting to get stuck in the masses of couples who were taking to the dance floor, said a quick goodbye before moving away.
Hyuck gently grabbed your hand with his, wrapping his other hand securely around your waist and pulled you in close to him. You rested your free hand on his shoulder and gently began to sway to the music.
The whole scene felt like something out of a movie. The soft lights were gently shining down on the two of you, making you feel as though you were the only two people there as the atmosphere surrounded you, enclosing you in your own little bubble. You found yourself getting lost in Hyuck’s eyes as the music faded slowly into the background, the sound of your heart beating for the boy in front of you overpowering everything else.
There really was nothing that you wouldn’t do for Hyuck. And, no matter what people told you, no matter what rumours you hear, you knew that you knew him. The real him. Not Haechan, not the bad boy cliche image that he puts up everyday, not everyone else’s perception of him as the kid who didn’t give a damn about anyone or anything. You knew Hyuck for who he truly was, all the good, the bad and the ugly. You had seen him at his highs and his lows, you trusted him with your heart and you knew he would never break it.
After all these years of moving and leaving things behind, you had finally found somewhere you could call home. Only it wasn’t a place. It was a person. And you knew that, as long as he was looking down at you with that much love in his eyes, you wouldn’t need any other home ever again.
Maybe senior year wasn’t just the best year of your life as everybody says it is, but also the beginning of the rest of it.

there's a limit on how much you can be an isekai intellectual...
a bunch of analyses have been popping up before me all day so i wanted to throw my hat into the ring. all love to ppl who are exercising their creative minds + ppl like geoff here who just talk about these things because of fan interest but i feel like there reaches a point where exploring the "types" of isekai is pointless? i've seen ppl list out the different types of villainess revenge isekai or fantasy mmorpg isekai but eh why fit them all into separate boxes like that?
i think it's easier to think of isekai as a "type" (genre) of itself with only two categories: 1) a focus on isekai (lit. another world) 2) tensei (lit. to be reborn). this allows for a variety of applications and thus tropes that ppl see so many trends of!
with isekai - in another world
you see everything from:
pure fantasy (inuyasha, digimon wait maybe not the best example but in my childhood mind i count digimon as pure fantasy, fushigi yugi)
mmorpg inspired fantasy/adventure (.hack//legend of twilight, sao ugh, log horizon, overlord (LOVE OVERLORD!)
otome game-esque worlds >>> this is where it gets complicated with "villainess routes" since i admit there are multiple villainess tropes but this is why it's nice to not think of this as a "sub-type/genre" bc it frees you from those complications! (the saint's magic power is omnipotent, the white cat's revenge as plotted from the dragon king's lap soso cute!, the savior's book cafe in another world, i'm a villainous daughter so i'm going to keep the last boss wait i can't remember if she's reborn in this one lmaooo see this is why rules make everything hard)
with tensei storylines - being reincarnated/reborn in another world as *insert character/role*
you see...
the same tropes!!
pure fantasy (a returner's magic should be special, reminiscence adonis, the lady and the beast, light and shadow, i can't think of a manga off the top of my head for this ah)
mmorpg inspired fantasy/adventure (so i'm a spider so what i stan kumoko so hard, her majesty's swarm, can't name another off the top of my head ah i hate lists shorter than two things...)
self-insert based games/novels (fiance's observation log of a self-proclaimed villainess, who made me a princess, death is the only ending for the villainess, the villainess wants to marry a commoner, honestly games vs novels are different applications but i'm not in the headspace to try to remember a bunch of both lol)
*insert line break to give random ppl a break from scrolling but tl; dr just enjoy things for what they are no need to micro analyze*
similar variations occur in both genres (if ppl want to be super technical i guess i'm arguing that isekai itself is a massive genre that has the "another world" subgenre and "reincarnation" subgenre tl; dr) so i think it's honestly a huge pain to try to separate all these trends into so many different types of stories. for me personally it's easier to not get overwhelmed by this gigantic umbrella of "isekai" that spans light novels, manhwa, manga, and mobile games by just stripping each story down into its trademark tropes (aka character archetypes, story structures) and slapping "oh this is a person going to a world that's not ours" and "this person gets reborn as blank in another world". none of this "omg this power fantasy is such a this kind of isekai moment" or "there are 14 different types of villainess revenge stories and this series fits into this" bc AH labels! limitations! circle-jerks via ppl trying to compartmentalize everything and sound smart for leaving a comment on story analysis instead of ooh-ahhing over a character's face! dividing things into light novel manga vs manga vs korean manhwa ft. female characters!
the last bit is mainly why i feel frustrated by ppl's insistence to group everything?
the video linked at the beginning of the post (honestly good video essay, i enjoyed it, i just kept thinking in my head the whole time "marimo these are tropes do not take the genre talk literally") has a baby comment thread talking about "korean isekai manhwas" as a genre featuring nothing but reincarnated villainess' and i can't.
like i cannot acknowledge that as a genre of any sort. the energy i felt reading through some of those insights takes me back to 2012 when all yt americans discovered k-pop and deemed all korean music k-pop from then on! (ppl still do this now, yes you are seen and don't talk to me pls i don't like you. k-pop is korean pop music and nothing less and nothing more. take a few seconds and try to parse apart aspects of korean culture instead of slamming everything into a monolithic label that has the letter k and a hyphen.) it feels so odd to see a bunch of young ppl on ig and tiktok acknowledge korean media that happens to be in the form of a webtoon as "oh stories all about young girls becoming villains in stories they made/played" bc it feels so reductive u.u
(positionality disclaimer that i'm praying isn't actually necessary: i am a 3rd-generation korean of japanese descent do not fite me i am exhausted irl of ppl asking for validation/verification bc massive shove off.)
breaking news! korean manhwa...is just as multifaceted as japanese manga...bc how can comics as an art-form not have multiple genres...huh such a shocker?!?! same likely applies to media in other parts of the world like chinese manhwa and french comics--not my place to explain either of those i just know those industries exist bc of wakfu and donghua shows by Tencent.
at the end of the day it's not like analyzing any kind of isekai is wrong--absolutely not!! i think it can be super fun to think about how isekai elements complicate a story (MCs trying to go back home, ppl from the og world, reincarnation plot-twists) or maybe even bash a series for including some kind of other world element when they could have just written a super fun fantasy.
insert marimo's brief ramble that hey you can get sick of truck-kun's hitting disillusioned guys who happen to be super duper smart or girls who happen to be master chefs/craftsmen but transporting a fully-grown being into a fantasy setting is the ultimate cheat code for making mundane modern technology seem cool and overpowered, and being reincarnated as a fully grown person in a world with a pre-made story/game set-up completely bypasses the need for an author to slowly flesh out world-building in a natural progression so isekai is actually a really smart writing tool it's just that there are some series where the author didn't use it well at all and it's cheesy or clearly isekai was misused as a vehicle for character/story development and it was pointless *DEEP BREATH OUT*
in this essay i will argue...lol i am such a culture studies major!! if i were an english major i would be talking all about writing but here i am having a side-tangent about world-building via someone being reborn wow i love this for me (don't get me started on when an author has someone reincarnate as a baby and the story is mostly them having warm fluffy moments with their family--typically father figures--and getting lots of powers i could and would and probably will rant about east asian toxicity)
but anyway am i crazy????? like yes for being passionate about the technical use of a word like genre (i am a scorpio rising let me be fussy pls) but i don't think it's a lot to ask for ppl to not unironically see "villainess revenge isekai" as the definition of korean manhwa.
idk as someone who resonates with why japanese isekai is so popular domestically + why a lot of korean manhwa feat. the same tropes (it's not for great reasons lads it's actually depressing tbh) i'm just starting to feel kind of pained by the generalization and need to separate "cute japanese girl in an otome game"/"japanese boy finds a harem in another world" from "korean girl dies and comes back as a villainess" bc they are just! applications to the same story device!!
recommendations for any who makes it this far down below <3
// also gladly recommend any of the examples i've listed in the above rant as i've read/watched all of them and adore them v much! //
save me princess
super refreshing fantasy manhwa ft. a princess and her ex-boyfriend having to save the world!
the beginning after the end
an AMERICAN web novel turned into a comic (but see it being not korean/japanese doesn't really matter when you just consider isekai as a genre...isn't it nice to not overthink it?) ft. a super-powerful wizard king reincarnated into another world and starting from scratch--gives mushoku tensei vibes but huge twists!
the reason why raeliana ended up at the duke's mansion
love love LOVE this story--read the title and you'll learn how this girl reincarnated as the character raeliana in a book gets married to a duke!
trash of the count's family
such a good novel!! a guy gets reborn as a lazy oaf and he takes the hero of the story under his wing...plot twists come up later on!
this time i will definitely be happy!
v good and refreshing for a shorter series! she's been reborn 3 times and remembers every time the hero's stabbed her in the back, and now she just wants to break up with him!
silver diamond
older manga but v good adventure w intrigue! a boy who loves plants get sucked into a desert world with demonic lizards and a mysterious bodyguard by his side. shonen-ai not BL but wonderful vibes nonetheless + great side characters!
the princess imprints a traitor
adore everything in this from the world (not in that way this society makes me so angry) to the machinations at play and the dynamic between the fl and ml

Bottled Up
pairing: C.H. x fem!reader
category: angst, fluff
warnings: yelling, crying, insecurities
word count: 2.2k
notes: apologies for the tardy post, i wrote and rewrote and re-rewrote the whole angsty scene because i didn’t know if it was written well enough, i wanted to make sure you guys could feel the emotions that i vividly visualised and tried my best to put into words :( i did send it to a friend to check and she seemed to like it, so let me know how it goes for you, my loves. the angst for this one was inspired by 2 different songs - hold me while you wait by lewis capaldi and i will run from you by cemeteries. it’s not necessarily about the lyrics, but more about the melody and the mood you get into listening to them (they go in order). give those a listen :) also, beware of the upcoming philosophy references, i did study philosophy last year, hopefully no one gets triggered lmao
< previous next >
Is a person’s scent something a normal human being picks up on before taking into account the rest of their features? Would a normal human being remember said scent and be able to recognise it in a crowd full of strangers? Corpse wasn’t too sure about the answer, but one thing he did know, is that she smelled delicately sweet, like cherry blossoms, and that ever since he had noticed it during their game night a few weeks ago, he simply couldn’t let it go. It was intoxicating, but in a calming way.
━
Corpse and (Y/N) each lay on their beds in their own homes, going into the third hour of their call. He couldn’t exactly fall asleep, so he had decided to see what his dear friend was up to, and even though she was this close to succumbing to sleep, she said nothing and stayed up to keep his busy mind company.
“Okay, hot topic: what do you think about soulmates? More specifically the romantic type?” the girl asked, not knowing how much of a risqué question it was. How was he supposed to answer?
“I don’t really have an opinion on it. Why?”
“I read Symposium by Plato the other day and it presented an interesting concept about human beings. Basically-” Of course she fucking read philosophical books. How were they even having a conversation with each other? Why were they even friends? She was on a whole other level of smart. “-so this guy says that humans were like androgynous blobs, so they’d come in two sets of everything a normal person has. But those humans were so powerful, the gods were literally shaking in their robes, so Zeus decided to cut everyone into two to weaken them. But then humans became so miserable, they spent their entire lives searching for their other halves. In the end, Zeus kinda felt bad and said fuck it, I’ll give y’all dicks and vaginas for every time you wanna hug each other. And that’s the oldest explanation there is about the idea of soulmates.” she sighed, finished with her rant.
“That was...not at all the story I expected to hear.” she heard him mumble on the other side of the call. “Yeah, Greek philosophers were up to some reeal freaky things, you would have loved them,” he laughed at her joke, “I honestly think it’s cute. Not the whole cutting people into two thing, but like, longing for someone and then finding them because you finally feel complete. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a strong independent woman who doesn’t need a prince in shining whatever to sweep me off my feet. But it does sound nice, that ideal comfort, a person you’re just...meant to be with, I guess.”
There was a moment of silence that neither of them really minded, before it was Corpse’s turn to ask the second bold question of the night. “Have you found that person yet? Your soulmate?”
She’s never thought about it before, but she hasn’t really thought about soulmates that much either, it was a spontaneous thought she had said out loud. “I’m not sure, actually. (B/F/N) could be one, I guess.” (Y/N) shrugged in return. Wasn’t she going to ask him about it? She probably didn’t care that much. Understandable.
“My favourite quote about love is «You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly.». It’s by Sam Keen, the American philosopher. It maay be the hopeless romantic in me shining through, but I do very much agree with his statement.” Did this mean anyone could have a chance with her despite their fuckups? So if he were to try, would she-?
“Obviously, there are some things that just can’t be ignored or avoided, but at that point it’s preferences and personal tolerance. Depends on the person, ya know?” she swiftly added, unaware of the effect it had on him. Sick. Some people were just meant to rot alone.
The final question was posed by (Y/N). She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t at all curious. This little crush of hers had been steadily growing with every hang out, every laugh, every hug and every glance. There are rarely ever moments where one could casually discuss a topic this personal with friends, at least there weren’t with friends one had feelings for. This was the perfect opportunity.
“Corpse?”
“Hmm?”
“Have you ever been in love?” her voice was soft, her approach gentle.
“Well, I’ve been in relationships before, so I guess, yeah? It’s been so long, I don’t even know what love feels like anymore.” he let out a breath resembling a chuckle. Lamest fucking answer ever. But it was true. He hadn’t thought about love in that way in quite a while.
“A lot of people describe it as having an intense range of overwhelming feelings. Lightheadedness, slight shakiness, heart palpitations, some people have even reported losing their appetite. Crazy how human bodies work, huh? Oh! Speaking of chemicals-”
She had continued on to ramble about...chemistry? Eyes? Corpse couldn’t really hear what she was saying anymore, let alone concentrate on her words, as he pieced everything that’s been happening for the past few months together. The nauseating feeling. The pounding of his heart so fast it felt like he was about to die. The urge to make as little eye contact with her as possible, because otherwise he’d turn into a furnace. The obsession with her perfume, like he was some fucking creep. The fool was falling in love. And it was at that moment that everything had come crumbling down.
━
(Y/N) and Corpse hadn’t talked for a couple of weeks. Or rather (Y/N) messaged the 23 year old many times, but he’d either claim to be busy or just not answer at all. There were two possible reasons for the sudden lack of contact: he was indeed busy with his musical projects and couldn’t allow himself to be distracted; or something much more serious was going on. It didn’t matter, for she was already in her car, on her way to his apartment.
Arriving at her destination, she used the spare key he gave her months ago, a sign of absolute trust, and allowed herself into his humble abode. Silence reigned in her friend’s residence. She thought maybe he had gone somewhere, and though that was unlikely, it wasn’t unprecedented. The door to his recording room was closed, and while she was tempted to check if he was in there, she refrained from doing so, knowing that specific room was not to be entered unless he was around to give permission.
“Corpse?” she called out just to make sure. There was no response for a few minutes, which made her assume she had the place for herself, until she heard a door open behind her. Turning around, she saw his figure emerge from said recording room in a white t-shirt and black sweatpants, his curly hair disheveled.
“Hey, how are you d-”
“Why are you here?” he spoke flatly, interrupting her. “Well- You weren’t, um, answering your messages or any of my calls, so I thought something had happened.” she replied, suddenly nervous, fiddling with the rings on her fingers. “Nothing happened. I told you I was busy.”
The air around them seemed colder as tensions rose. (Y/N) could tell he was irritated, but she couldn’t exactly figure out why. She had never seen this side of him before. “Okay. Tell you what, I assume you haven’t had dinner yet, so why don’t I go ahead and start cooking something up while you-”
“Get out.”
She blinked a few times, not quite registering the words that had just left his mouth. “Sorry?” Her voice was quiet. She was taken off guard.
“Are you deaf? I said get. the fuck. OUT.”
Corpse shouted the last word, making her flinch in what appeared to be fear. Good. Run away while you still can. Heart pounding, (Y/N) took a second to remind herself whom she was speaking to. “I see that you’re angry, but at least give me a reason why-”
“You want a reason? I just don’t fucking WANT you here!” Anger grew inside of him like a tumor, but it wasn’t intended for her. She had simply been caught in a storm that had been building up for years. “Do you understand that?! I can’t fucking be around you without feeling like I’m going to EXPLODE.”
His words hit her like paintballs. They were only words, plain and simple, but they dug deeper and deeper into her skin with each hit, until, eventually, it broke. Eyes burning, she felt the tears slowly welling up in them.
“Why are you doing this to me?!” her own voice grew louder with frustration, but mostly, confusion.
“Maybe because I can? Because I’m a goddamn asshole?”
“Don’t say that.”
“How?! How can I not say it when it’s the truth!” He wanted to stop. His mind told him to cease whatever it was that he was doing. However, blinded with resentment towards himself, he only spilled words he would regret after it was too late.
“I can’t function like a normal fucking human being. I can’t be a good friend, son, or whatever the fuck else, and I sure as hell can’t love you.”
The paintballs had turned into a singular sword. A very long, very sharp sword that had found itself plunged deep inside her chest. How did he found out? When? Had she been too obvious? Had she been pushy? Clingy? Way out of line? The woman before him was unable to conceal her shock, as tears came rushing down her hot cheeks. Her voice brittle, she tried defending herself. She couldn’t leave it at that. She had to try. Try to have him see reason. “You don’t love me, that’s fine. But you didn’t have to deliver it this way-”
“But I did.” breathless with fury, Corpse clenched his fists so tight they had turned cold, yet they were still trembling. “You can get so naïve and dumb, you won’t understand things unless they’re spelled out nice and fucking bold for you.”
He closed with (Y/N) until their noses nearly touched. He noticed the way she silently shook, her eyes which shed endless tears never leaving his gaze. Unable to make a single sound, she felt the man’s hot breath on her face, his aura domineering.
“Now get. out.”
Her body wouldn’t cooperate as she just stood there. Staring back at him, her inner brows raised. Corpse wanted to hug her. Envelop her trembling figure with his and tell her he was sorry, that he meant none of it, that he had lost his mind. But he couldn’t bring himself to do anything. And with his own tears threatening to spill, he created a distance between them. He needed her gone.
“Leave! GO!”
His yelling was enough to jolt (Y/N) out of her trance, and, in a hurry, she sprinted towards the entrance. The door closed behind her, she felt a sudden urge to fill her lungs with much needed air. She jumped at the resounding scream that emanated from deep within his soul, letting out all of his pent-up rage.
Feet carrying her all the way to her car parked outside of the building, the young woman managed to climb in, and this was the queue for her body to break down. The night was young. The street empty. No one around to hear her long-lasting wailing. She clutched the steering wheel for support, fingers wrapping around the leather in a tight grip. A headache was creeping up from the back of her skull. Her ears pulsated in response to the heavy pounding of her heart. Clumsily, (Y/N) inserted the key into the ignition, felt around for the gear stick, and drove away. She didn’t know where she was going or how long it was going to take to get there. She needed to get out.
What went wrong? When did it go wrong? She couldn’t help but feel guilty, feel at fault. She had never seen that side of him before. He had never treated her that way before.
It was the hugs, wasn’t it? He had to have noticed the way she held on for a second too long to enjoy the smell of his cologne. Her vision blurred as she resumed softly weeping, her salty tears staining her top. Or it might have been the touchiness, she would practically glue herself to him during their movie nights. Unaware of both her actions and surroundings, (Y/N)’s breathing quickened, becoming ragged. Maybe he didn’t like the way she called him three times a week. Her hands were slowly losing control over the wheel, over the vehicle she was driving. She invaded his privacy. That was definitely it. Fuck. How could she have been so damn blind, selfish, ignorant, FUCKING STUPID.
Lights. Something was moving towards her- MOVE.
With a sharp turn, she dodged the approaching car just by a hair’s breadth, but as she had avoided one accident, another came just as quickly.

I'd like to talk about: clean fandoms. It's what I call them, the fandoms that ratings are almost always "G" (General Audiences) and "T" (Teen And Up Audiences). Seriously, they do exist. There is no incest, no obscenity, no warnings. Sure, there will be some, but it's so rare. I could name a few, but the ones that stand out the most in my head are Chronicles of Narnia fandom and Tolkien fandom.
Especially the last one. How.I.suffer. There is no Elrond/Arwen, there is no Galadriel/Finarfin, there is no Celebrian/Celeborn, there is no Galadriel/Fëanor fuck, there is no Arwen/her brothers, there is no Fëanor/original daughter, there's nothing.
To be fair, I think there might be a little more content among the children of Fëanor M/M, but the F/M incest category is really neglected in this fandom. Urgh, I can't believe I've never read a decent fanfic Thranduil/Original daughter, or Legolas/Original sister/Thranduil.
I wish I had the time and that spark that writers have, like I don't, I can only ask that if any of the followers of this blog are familiar with the Tolkien or Narnia fandom and have the time and the desire to please consider some of these rare and overlooked pairs. We need u guys.
I know this ask came from a place of frustration but it made me laugh.
Considering how big these fandoms are and how long they have been around, it would certainly be nice if there were more incest fics for us. You would think all of these pairings would have at least one fic.
I think a lot of fics that used to exist in these fandoms just don't anymore. A lot of them were on ancient archives that were lost to time. I know for certain there was a great Pevencest fanfiction archive that doesn't exist anymore. And I am 100% certain I read an incest fic with Arwen and both her brothers. This would have been more than ten years ago.
I had Thranduil/original daughter/Legoas headfic. Nothing written, though. There's epic potential.
I've also started a long-ish Bard/Sigrid fic post-Hobbit but it's nowhere near ready to publish.
I'm not too sure about Rings of Power, particularly I'm not sure about what it's doing to Galadriel, but if we do get to see her with her brother(s) then that could be really good.
You've heard the call, guys. Now it's time to write!

Play Pretend (500 Celebration)
500 Celebration Masterlist
Pairing: Ivar/Reader
Prompt: From the Love Tropes category: “Blackmail”
Word Count: 1596
Warnings: Modern!AU, angst, Ivar being a dick, nothing else I can think of.
A/N: This ain’t the fluffiest piece, it’s not fluffy at all, but hey, it’s marginally less angsty than the last one, that I can promise you.
To be honest, idk what this is, and I am not certain it is any good. But I’ve been dealing with one hell of a writer’s block lately, and I really needed to just write what came to mind. Hope you enjoy!
You eye the name flashing on your phone screen, and though a part of you really doesn’t want to answer, you still do.
“I would have thought you caught on that I really didn’t want to talk after the fourth day. This is bordering on stalking, you know.”
“Is it stalking if you gave me your number?” Ivar retorts without missing a beat, and you sigh.
“I assume you have a reason to call me. Unless missing the sound of my voice became too much to bear.”
“Don’t flatter yourself.”
“Is it flattery if it is true?” You taunt back, only to then chastise yourself for falling into familiar patterns.
“I heard your mother’s firm is taking over Ragnar’s newest countersuit.” Ivar starts, choosing to ignore your words.
“Ah, you just happened to hear that?”
“I might have asked,” He concedes, before taking a breath and continuing, “You know I’m going to England with him, right? His last meeting with Ecbert before he retires,” You offer only a hum in response, but something like dread and worry churns at your stomach. It is never a good sign when Ivar sounds so damn pleased with himself. “My father listens to me, trusts my advice.”
“If you’re going where I think you are…”
He interrupts you, words cutting and cold, “I could have your mother’s firm dropped before she even gets to sign anything.”
“I would say something about how blackmail isn’t the way to mend things with your ex, but…”
“You know better.” He tells you, the dry tone making the beginning of a smile pull at your lips, lips that you furrow when you notice the evidence of your foolishness.
____
A very lengthy argument and a plane ride after, you’re back in Kattegat, enough clothes for a week and a scowl on your brow that you think might be stuck there from now on.
Six months ago your mother started insisting that, now that you had gotten engaged to ‘one of the Lothbroks’, you should consider starting to work more closely with her; five months ago you freaked out at the mere idea of it and decided to do the exact opposite and take an internship opportunity in a non-profit in Nepal; four months ago Ivar said that if you were running away and leaving that you might as well break it off.
In none of those four months he considered letting his family know that long distance didn’t work -not that he even tried- and that you had broken up.
So now you are set for a week in the Lothbrok’s home for Björn’s wedding, pretending you never broke up with Ivar with the threat of your mother losing her contract looming over your head.
Which makes all of this fucking fantastic.
“You should have told them,” You say for what feels like the thousandth time, eyeing his profile carefully. “You should have told her.”
“You’re not here to tell me how to handle my family.” Ivar points out gruffly through gritted teeth.
“No, I’m here to pretend we haven’t broken up four months ago,” You scoff at the ridiculousness of the situation, turning to look back out the window. “Because that is a very healthy thing to do.”
“Healthier than moving to the ass-end of nowhere because someone suggested the possibility of you committing to something for once in your life.”
“I commit!” You protest immediately, frowning at his doubtful glare, “I committed to you!”
“You left me.” Ivar accuses without missing a beat, rage flaring and eyes set intently on you. Your mouth falls open at the fucking audacity of this man.
“No, don’t turn this on me. You-” You bite back the words with a groan of frustration, running your hands through your hair before sighing, “You know what? It doesn’t matter.”
Resting back against the seat and wondering not for the first time how much these people pay their drivers to not blurt out every little secret that they overhear, you close your eyes and focus on the dull thrum of the car speeding through the highway.
Most of all you dread seeing Aslaug, if you are honest. The woman always did have a keen eye to notice everything about everyone, or at least the confidence to pretend she did. If you’re honest, she…intimidates you.
You tell yourself she has no idea you and Ivar broke up, which would give her no reason to hate you. She was always warm towards you since Ivar first introduced you as his girlfriend. Her eyes were even glistening with pride and happiness when you walked in with a ring on your finger.
You jump in your seat, turning frantic eyes to the man that sits next to you.
“Oh, Gods, the ring! Y-Your mother’s ring, I d-…”
Your words are cut short and left choked in a dying gasp with only a movement of Ivar’s hand, that now extends between you with the engagement ring in the palm of his hand.
He doesn’t even look your way when he offers it, but when you reach cautious fingers to grab it, you could swear his hand trembles slightly.
Sliding it back over your finger feels strange, and for a moment it feels so warm it burns. You toy with the ring idly, and cannot keep the words from tumbling out of your mouth.
“You kept it.”
“Of course I did, it’s my Ma’s.”
Of course, how stupid of you. You curse the useless hope that unbidden sneaked up on you.
You decided to leave, you remind yourself. Hell, you are considering agreeing on making the original six months of your internship last a year instead.
Granted, agreeing to making it a year may be more out of fear of coming back home than of truly wanting to stay there. But still, you shouldn’t be holding out hope that there’s something left, or that there might be something to come back to Kattegat for.
“R-Right.” You nod for emphasis, but it is to conceal the way you have to swallow hard to keep your composure.
After a while of silence, either because your curiosity always got the better of you or because you need to make sense of this insane ruse you are about to partake in, you ask,
“Why are you doing this, Ivar?”
“Hm? Doing what?” He asks, at your stern glare looking back out the window and shrugging one shoulder, “I didn’t want to tell them.”
“You’ll have to, eventually.”
“Not now,” He states, a little harsher, making you realize you’ve struck a nerve. His eyes find yours for a moment before he returns his gaze to the road that passes you by, and the manor that approaches quite quickly. “But now…now Björn is getting married and…that should have been us, you know.”
“W-What?”
“The wedding, the…the everything,” He grits his teeth, and his hand tightens into a fist before it loosens, the gesture familiar only now he lacks the crutch at his side to grip tightly in anger. Your eyes trace his profile intently, and you hold your breath waiting for him to talk. Ivar takes a breath, shoulders rising and falling slowly, “I should have married you.”
“So what? So you could make me stay in Kattegat?” You ask, maybe a bit more bitingly than you should.
“You loved me,” He states, proud even he makes it sound like an accusation, “You told me no one made you feel like I did, that you would never love someone like you loved me. Was that a lie, hm?”
All the answer you can offer is a glare and words kept stubbornly at the tip of your tongue. It is cruel to throw your words back at you, but you wouldn’t put it past him, since all of this is a cruel and sick game.
He is the one that broke up with you, he is the one that told you to mail him the ring back, he is the one that made things what they are; and yet he uses power and blackmail to get you to play a part. All the while refusing to admit he is the reason why you have to pretend in the first place.
But you are not deluded enough to tell yourself this is unlike Ivar. He is as ruthless as his father, maybe even more so, and he has the single-minded focus that Ragnar lacks. You aren’t sure if that last thing is a positive or a negative.
The car parks at the entrance of the lavish home you know by heart now, and Ivar takes a deep breath, looking at you one last time.
His words before he leaves the car leave you cold and stunned for a few moments,
“You’ll remember how good it was, you’ll see. I’ll make you forget all about leaving me.”
Scrambling to get out, you walk around the car to stand at his side, looking up at him with wide eyes, “So they know? They know a-and you made me come here to make me be with you again?”
Ivar frowns, as if you are the one that’s not making any sense.
“They don’t know,” He insists, the hand not on the crutch grasping at your left one, fingers running over the ring with appalling familiarity. You are left to wonder how much of this game of play pretend he is willing to make himself believe as true when he offers a smile that feels like home and says, “I don’t lie to you, you know that.”

Thank you so much for reading, I hope this was okay! I’ll be trying to post two or three celebration thingies three days a week from now on, so that’s it for today but I’ll hopefully see you tomorrow!
Also, some things in the masterlist may be changed (Echoes, for example, was supposed to be a Hvitserk one), so I might change the “Fake Relationship” for Ivar and write a sequel to this.

Reunion (Waiting series - part 3 of 3)
Pairing: Ethan Ramsey and f!MC (Luz Beltrán) | Category: angst | Rating: T | Warnings: none | Word Count: 3k | Ao3 link | Part 1 | Part 2
summary: Ethan can’t run anymore. It’s time he confronts his fears. But will he be strong enough? (Book 2, chapter 1 rewrite)
62 days.
That’s how long it’s been since he’s seen her, heard her, or spoken to her. Yet he can still feel her electrifying presence, as if she were only mere inches away. He still sees the sparkle in her dark eyes, the way her lips curve into a sheepish smile whenever they meet his. The gaze doesn’t break, until he runs his hand over his perspiring face, and the vision fades yet again.
He ignores the hammering in his chest, like he’s been doing so for the past few hours, and he forces his feet to carry him out the door. The loud slam echoes down the hall, making him wince for a moment before he attempts to pull himself together.
His mind has been on nothing but the fact that for the first time in two months, Luz will be working with him closer than ever. It’s a fact he’s known since before he left for the Amazon, but he willed himself to push the thought away, thinking this escape away from her would be sufficient distance and time for him to finally be able to move forward.
What a fool he was.
The flashes of memories and visions have sequestered his mind. And there’s only one thing he’s found the courage to do: attempt to drown them away at Donahue’s.
Little does he realize, he’s leading himself right to her.
•
The country blues song emanates from the jukebox as he weaves his way through the throng of rowdy drunken patrons. The smell of alcohol, cheap cologne, and sweat permeates throughout the more crowded than usual bar. He squeezes past, thinking of nothing else but getting his drink so that he can finally be at peace.
The peace won’t come because as soon as he steps foot in the beer garden, a laugh so familiar causes him to freeze in his tracks and the thumping rhythm in his heart to return.
He remains frozen, everything but that joyful sound fades away. It’s all he can hear, it’s so loud he can feel the vibration of it on every inch of his body. He indulges in it for only a short moment before someone’s shoulder brushes his walking past, and everything comes into focus again.
"I’m so proud of us for making it this far. Together."
He can hear the smile in her voice. She’s happy. Happy without him. And he doesn’t know whether to rejoice in this or be displeased. His own selfishness leans toward the latter, but rushing guilt pulls him out of the bind, and he finally begins to move.
His head stays down as he mentally counts every step he takes, anything to keep his mind off of how much he’s missed that laugh. The fear that he’ll succumb to it is so powerful that he’s sure he’ll turn right around and run again.
No more running.
Her voice becomes louder. It’s too hypnotizing for anything to overpower it. It’s something he must learn to live with. Starting now.
He lifts his head, and their eyes meet. He’s hit with the spark that makes time seem to slow, and all he’s left with is the tingling sensation washing over every part of his body like a wave.
He wonders if she feels it, too.
"... Rookie."
Her voice is stolen from her at that moment. He looks different. But she’s immediately pulled in by those familiar ocean-blue eyes, and the comfort of them lets her know he’s still her Ethan.
No. Not anymore. He never was.
She recovers from the trance, squaring her shoulders. "Hello, Dr. Ramsey."
His eyes stay trained on hers, an unreadable expression crosses his features in a flash, as if the professionalism in her tone catches him off guard, but he quickly covers it with his stoic mask.
He nods curtly, not looking away. There’s a stretch of silence as they think of what else to say. Ironic, considering all the time they’ve had to bottle up everything inside. But they quickly realize that’s where it’ll have to remain.
He pulls his gaze away toward everyone else seated at the table. "Doctors, enjoy your night," he finally says, and with one final awkward nod, he walks away.
She sits silently watching his retreating form, until a hand on her arm pulls her out of the trance. She looks up to find Sienna staring back at her with a slight frown.
"Are you okay?" she whispers so the others won’t hear. Though by this point, they’ve resumed their conversation.
"I don’t know," she answers truthfully. She had prepared herself for this moment, but finally being in his presence has awoken the yearning she hoped would fade away.
Or maybe it never did.
She huffs out in frustration and gets to her feet. "Sorry, Sienna, I’ll be right back." She grabs her purse and makes to leave.
"Is there anything I can do?"
She softly smiles at her. "No, thanks. I just need a minute." She steps away, heading toward the bathroom. She can’t fully breathe, and she knows damn well it’s not from the cheap cologne hitting her nose as she passes through the crowd.
Ethan’s seated at the main bar keeping a fixed gaze at the wall in front of him, doing everything in his power to not look over his shoulder. The feeling of her eyes on his back as he walked away had become too much. Those beautiful eyes have watched him go far too many times by now.
He takes another long swig as his anger builds. An anger at no one but himself. He’s sick of the uncertainty. He can’t let it hold him prisoner any longer. If they’re going to work together, he has to confront and face what he’s been trying to avoid. She’s here, so he might as well get this over with. The last thing he wants is unresolved tension while working together; it’s better to let it all out.
Another pang of fear hits him that she won’t want to speak to him. That she’s shut herself off from him completely. There’s only one way to find out...
Her laugh rings in his ears again, so clear and captivating. He takes a deep breath and wills himself to turn around. He expects to see her smiling face, maybe even staring back at him—just maybe. But when he finally whirls around, she isn’t there. His eyes search the beer garden but finds no sign of her. The other residents remain seated at the table, and some part of him hopes she hasn’t left.
And then the thought occurs to him that he’s the reason for her leaving. That had to be it. She couldn’t stand to be in the same room with him. He heard it in her tone when she greeted him, which has still left a sour taste in his mouth. A part of him can’t bear her not saying his name the way she used to.
She’s left, and now he’ll have to delay their conversation for another day. If they ever have it in the first place, that is. He downs the last of his scotch and heads for the exit. He just wants to sleep the headache away and maybe not dream of her tonight.
He says his goodbye to Reggie and leaves through the front door. When he finally steps out he breathes in the much cleaner air, glad to be away from the fetid odor inside. It’s time to head home; his bed is calling his name. He turns the corner, only to come face to face with her.
She leans back against the wall with her arms crossed over her chest. Her eyes are closed, and he sees her chest rise and fall with every breath she takes. The light from the streetlamp spills over her like a spotlight. Everything he’s ever wanted stands right in front of him, though he doesn’t dare admit that to himself.
She doesn’t notice him until she hears a pair of footsteps. Of course they’d belong to the man who currently occupied her mind.
She holds her breath as he stands before her. His shoulders immediately almost go to his ears, and his hands are shoved deep inside his pockets. She gives him a once-over. Quickly taking notice of his new wardrobe for the first time that night. He’s traded in the cardigan for a faux leather green jacket, and his slacks and khakis for jeans. It’s a much more casual look for the reserved man, though his current stiff posture does nothing to reflect that.
They remain unmoving. The air suddenly feels heavy with every unspoken word. Words they’ve been holding back, and now feels like the time everything will finally be poured out.
"Ethan..." she whispers his name, quieter than she meant to.
He watches her lips move as they utter his name, and suddenly, his heart leaps in his throat, but he quickly composes himself and straightens his spine.
He clears his throat. "Rook—er, Luz. Sorry. Force of habit." He grimaces at the minor slip up, hoping she won’t notice. "How are you?"
She manages a smile, refusing to let this unexpected reunion affect her. "Good. How about you? You look,"— she throws a nod toward his new look — "different. Looks like we got ourselves a brand new Ethan Ramsey."
He looks down, the flood of memories of all he went through in the Amazon come rushing back. "This jacket’s been through a lot with me."
"It suits you."
He steps closer, relaxed by the sudden casualness of the conversation. His heart leaps in his chest with just one glance in her direction. How was he ever going to focus in front of her? "Duly noted. And the beard?" Her opinion matters much more to him than he’d like to admit. Dangerous territory, Ramsey.
She considers the question, letting her eyes travel across his jawline that is now covered under heavy stubble. It certainly doesn’t diminish his good looks, though she can’t help but miss the 5 o’clock shadow that showed off his sharp jawline.
"Everyone will miss your famous jawline."
His eyes widen, taken aback. "My famous what?"
"As if you didn’t know." She gives him a teasing smile.
He smiles back, not noticing he’s come to stand right next to her. "Why are you out here?"
She panics for a moment. She certainly isn’t about to admit the reason she bolted out of the beer garden as soon as he showed up. But she can admit the half-truth. "Oh. I just needed a breather. It was getting stuffy in there while I was waiting in line for the bathroom."
She averts his gaze. A tell-tale sign she’s being evasive. The realization that he can read her with just one glance makes him go rigid once again. He quickly dismisses the thought.
"Were you just leaving?" she asks, resting her head against the wall.
He looks over his shoulder, where a couple come stumbling out hand in hand and into their awaiting ride. It makes him remember the time he and Luz stepped out of those doors together, heading back to her place. The last time he ever had her...
He turns back around, though not facing her. "I was. It was too crowded in there. And besides, we have a full day of work ahead of us tomorrow." He meets her eyes this time. "Ready to begin your fellowship?"
A look of pride crosses her features at the thought of achieving all she ever dreamed of. She’d worked so hard for this position, and she deserved it due to her hard work and dedication.
"I am. It’s a position I’ve been waiting for."
He takes in her enthusiasm, making him smile down at her. But the smiles begin to subside when the reality hits that the dynamic will be back to the way it was once again. He’ll be her boss. The main reason for their distance.
She feels the literal distance yet again when he takes a step back. The uncertainty, and something akin to fear, etched on his face.
She won’t bite her tongue any longer. There’s one question that’s been plaguing her for weeks and weeks. She’s prepared for whatever answer he may give. Or rather, she hopes she’s prepared for it.
"I heard about the work you did in the Amazon. That was certainly extremely brave."
His body goes rigid at the mere mention of the word. If only she knew. He grows somber, which she immediately notices but lets him speak.
"That wasn’t bravery." I ran and didn’t bother to look back. The truth is at the tip of his tongue. The truth that he was nothing but a coward. The coward who decided that running was the only plausible solution because of what he felt for the only woman he gave a damn about. A woman he cares so much about that he won’t fail her. And that is why he’ll put that barrier between them if it means she’ll become the best doctor. A doctor better than him, even. It doesn’t make him feel selfless, it’s downright excruciating to be so near yet so far.
There’s a silent understanding in those words. The anger and hurt she’d buried deep is slowly being unearthed. She can read the guilt and fear in his eyes, even though he’s doing everything in his power to keep her from seeing it. He keeps his head down, unwilling to expose his true self to her.
She wants to tear down the walls he’s painstakingly put up again. She wants her Ethan back. Yes, that’s right. She doesn’t debate it anymore. Her Ethan is underneath that austere exterior everyone knows. Only she was able to break through it all.
He hears her lean away from the wall, her former relaxed state becomes tense, but her arms remain crossed over her chest, tighter around her than before. The crease between her brows deepens. He already senses the question that’s coming.
"Why didn’t you keep in touch? No word from you at all for two months? After everything that happened between us?"
The pain in her eyes is too much to bear. And he only has himself to blame. He’s made her suffer in silence. Two months that seemed to stretch on for eternity. Two whole months that were never enough to erase the memory of her. But enough time to prepare him for what he’s about to say and help her understand why.
"Everything that happened between us is exactly why I didn’t contact you. Luz, if we’re going to work together on the diagnostics team, we need a fresh start. Your professional development is too important to jeopardize it with whatever... whatever it is we had."
There it is. It’s what they had that made her so happy. She knew it made him happy too, but he made the decision to run from those feelings. Feelings she knows are still there. She feels it in the way he speaks. She hears it in the way he breathes. And she sees it every time their eyes meet.
"Had... past tense..."
"Yes. And the past is where it has to remain." He swallows the lump in his throat.
She looks up to find him standing only a few inches away from her, his eyes silently pleading for her to understand. They’re pained, the soft azure eyes are silently communicating the secrets buried beneath. She’s sure her eyes are conveying the same thing. She only breaks the gaze to stare at his tempting lips. The lips she once knew. The lips she’s missed the taste of. Without thinking twice, she leans forward, standing on the tips of her toes to reach him, and connects her lips to his.
For a moment he believes this is another dream. But the reality of the moment sinks in. He’s glued to the spot, not daring to move an inch, otherwise he knows he’ll give in and lose control. It’s the safest he’s felt in two months. Her lips are familiar, so familiar that he wants nothing more than to wrap his arms around her, but he keeps them at his sides with clenched fists. But he doesn’t want to pull back, he isn’t strong enough to break the kiss. They’re like magnets, drawn together and unwilling to part.
Finally, she leans back. But the spell doesn’t break. They catch their breath, unwilling to shake off the overpowering moment. Her face is mere inches away. He’s pulled in by those dark eyes, but there’s an internal struggle with himself. The secret wish to not be strong enough to resist the temptation wrestles with the steadfast decisions he’s made.
"Dammit, Luz..." he utters in a hushed whisper.
"If you don’t want to kiss me again, then just tell me—" Please don’t.
"It has nothing to do with ‘want’. I can’t. And if I give a damn about you, I won’t. How am I supposed to push you to be everything you can be if I..." He stops himself; the word lingers in his mind. The word that would change everything. The sole word he must remain locked and hidden away.
He sounds like a broken record. "If you what?" She just wants to see the word slip from his lips. But that won’t ever happen. It’ll remain with him, hidden beneath the pile of his other secrets.
He bites the corner of his lip to keep himself from destroying his resolve. He’s unable to tear his gaze away. He wants to drown himself in those eyes for one last time.
There was a tenderness in those eyes for a fleeting moment before he finally broke the spell and turned away. She blinks away the tears prickling her eyes. He’s made his choice.
"Okay. I get it. I’ll see you tomorrow, Dr. Ramsey."
As she walks past him, it takes everything in him to not reach for her hand.
"Goodnight, Dr. Beltran."
He’s not sure she heard him. He watches her continue walking before she steps back inside the bar. He’s alone, yet he feels some part of her remains with him.

MASTERLIST
PART ONE
————————————————
She wanted now to escape from this building as if that kind of air was blocking her lungs. A cup of lemon tea would somehow release the tension in her shoulders.
At Derry Roasters everyone were talking about the same topic with new faces appeared in front of her. Interns chatting excitedly about their first day and cursing their attendees for the anxious hours they spent until now.
She let a smirk to herself remembering the first day when she was an intern. A rebel one and didn’t even have to spare a glance to the man whom she hated the most. She was so clueless about him that only knew his name but not his face.
You can say she was the only intern who got the attention of Dr. Ramsey after a decade and no one could replace her.
The interns eyed her incredulously as if they were seeing a miracle whispering to each other.
“It’s her!”
“Shush dude she doesn’t like gossiping.”
“She’s so fucking gorgeous!”
“Damn lucky whoever is with her!”
“It’s Dr. Ramsey.”
“Really?”
“They’re such a power couple!”
“Hm. I wonder if they’ll invite us to their weeding.”
“Matt shut up or she’s going to hear us and I don’t want to have any bones broken!”
“Fine fine.”
She took a seat at the corner of the bar facing the window in her left.
This was their place.
The place where they felt themselves and out of the real world.
He would be opposite her smiling and telling his stories as a troublemaker teenager or how his father would always get angry after another defeat in the chess game.
Or how he would touch and kiss her hand bringing closer to him.
Or how she would scold him to not do anything publicly and he still didn’t give a damn what the others would say.
She really wanted to relive these moments so much but her logical side told her he was wrong and he had to apologise.
Whereas the feeling side... told her to go and kiss him and tell him that it was just a temporary weakness and that she loves him.
While she was sipping her tea relishing a sigh a soft voice distracted her.
“So British of you.”
She chuckled while placing the tea to the plate. “You’re not British if you don’t drink a cup of tea.”
“I highly agree with that. And you’re not American if you don’t drink an espresso.”
Both women shared a laugh when Harper Emery took a seat opposite her.
“Soo... how’s the first day going?”
“Really Harper? Just say what you want. I know this look of yours.” She knew what she came for and didn’t want to skip it like nothing had happened. Even though she sounded harsh Harper only let a gentle smile.
“Fine I just wanted to ease this conversation a bit but it looks like I have a long talk with you little miss.”
“If he has sent you here don’t even try.” She said nonchalantly bringing back the tea to her lips.
“Correction: he didn’t and I don’t think he would.”
He wouldn’t? Of course what did you expect.
“I came here because I wanted to talk with you Klaw. As friends.”
“What makes you think you can change?”
Mini Ethan. Stay strong Harper.
“Well let’s just say that I have this instinct of mine that what I want to achieve- it will be achieved. I know it’s sounds cliche but I’ve never failed in this path.”
“Keep going then.”
“Look Klaw... I think the real problem is not you or him. It’s you both against the problem.” She eyed her curiously.
“The problem is Leland and it’s dragging you both into a black hole till you fall and no one’s going to help you. What you need to understand is that Bloom is trying to provoke us and to see who’s going to be on his side. What Ethan agreed wasn’t because he is on Bloom’s side. He agreed because-“
“That was the only way he said.” Klaw replied in frustration while reminiscing his court voice on her mind.
“Tone, please?” Harper arched an eyebrow.
Gosh they’re both the same.
“Sorry.” She murmured while her gaze was falling on her nails ripping the cuticles.
“As I was saying he only agreed because he knew that even he would do the contrary, Bloom wouldn’t listen to him anyway without asking us because this is his character and is unpredictable. Ethan is taking this calmly but do not forget- he will always be on your side. Yes he’s really mad with you because of your lack of control against your emotions and of not showing professionalism. But he is wrong too for treating you as someone foreign and not considering as your colleague and not rethinking that not always you will agree in everything.”
Harper was thinking if this could work for both of them because she wanted to help as much as she could and also couldn’t see them separated from each other.
“Or if I make it simple- just fucking go and get him already!”
“I don’t think that would be simple. He said if I don’t get my shit back then there’s no way I could step in the team.”
“And you think with such a weak and useless threat of him you’re not going to talk about this? Bullshit. This is the perfect moment to say the apology because if not- you’re going to be very late and you’ll lose him.”
“But this is not actually what hurt him.” Harper frowned in confusion while Klaw’s eyes started to well up.
“I offended him Harper. I said that... that he doesn’t care about me even though I know he cares! He does...a lot but... I’ve really messed this thing up and I’m worried about facing him.” She gulped while putting her palms behind her neck. “I can’t do this. How am I supposed to look him in the eye Harper? I know he is right now really tired of this behaviour of mine and has tried his best to push me and to seal this bad sided woman you’re talking to! Ethan has been a careful, supportive and kind to me in many ways that I can’t explain. Whereas I...” she let a scoff. “I’ve been nothing but only bragging about everything and not be the best girlfriend he wants.”
Harper Emery was lucky to know someone as Klaudia Craig because not only she had been a great shoulder to lean on for everyone but also has been a great person to her.
She would always be in a debt for making Aurora speak and standing up for herself in her intern year and to show what a mistake she did by underrating her niece for her achievements.
And here she was now- confessing her feelings such beautifully for a man whom she loves most and if she was in her place... No.
It was clearly that this woman was the only spark who could give light in Ethan’s darkness and the contrary.
They were both meant for each other.
“Then all of these things you said to me-“ She leaned her palm giving hers a gentle squeeze. “- you should say to him. Whatever happens. I think he will listen to you.”
“You think so?”
“Hey. I’m a neurosurgeon and this the dumbest question ever raised by you Dr. Craig.”
Klaw let a weary chuckle. “Okay. Let’s see if the grumpy man wants to talk with the grumpy woman.”
“That’s my girl.”
—————————
Her steps lead her to the Diagnositics Office and far from the corner she could see there was no one inside. So the only place he could be was...
Hospital’s gym.
She could hear some hard breathing and panting while kickboxing in a big arena. He was wearing his loosely T-shirt and his sport’s boxers that fit perfectly his shape of the body.
Every movement he did and his focused gaze to the training made her head tilt in a wander that how was possible this man could be such sexy.
And how she was so lucky that he was hers.
Or that’s what she thought.
“Ethan!” She called behind him but it seemed he didn’t hear her as he was having his headphones on clearly listening to his rap music. She tried again. “Ethan Jonah Ramsey!”
No answer again. “Is he fucking kidding me or what? I’ll show him.”
She entered the ring arena rapidly and when she was just about to call him again unexpectedly was twirled in his arms, her back facing chest. She gasped and felt her breath hitched. What now?
“Well look who made it here.”
“I...”
“What the hell do you want Rookie?” He growled on her left ear.
Her lips trembled despite her efforts to not cry in front of him. “I’m sorry.”
He sensed her change of tone and turned her back to face him.
“I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I know that I’m really such a bad bitch when it comes to these situations but I want you to know that I love you and I don’t want us to have these debates ever again because I know that always screw the things up... I ALWAYS RUIN IT!” Her last words flinched him when she punched his shoulder in anger and couldn’t see her in this broken state.
“No. I ruined it.” He admitted. “I know I shouldn’t even think about what you considered Harper at first because I know you weren’t jealous about her and still I thought it-” he let a weary chuckle “-and you never fail to be right about that. And I know I shouldn’t treat you as someone who wasn’t part of the team and I’m sorry if I made you doubt about yourself.”
He pulled her closer giving her the kiss she deserved but she backed off saying. “No more fights?”
He gave her the brightest smile. “No more.” She smiled too and felt his soul completely in peace. “Now Miss Craig-” he held his right hand to her. “-would you like to be my companion for tonight’s gala?”
She giggled and cleared her throat. “How can I refuse it Mister Ramsey?”
———————————————-
After two hours at Ethan’s apartment.
“I seriously can’t believe we’re going to that fucking party.” She was strapping her high heels frustratingly then got up while Ethan was doing his buttons of his sleeves looking at the mirror.
“Relax Rookie. Just put a fake smile and chat about medicine as doctors usually do.”
She scoffed while reaching to do his tie. “How can you be such calm? I expected you to be furious just like me.”
“Well unlike you ma’am I have a master’s degree that I’ve held for eleven years for being talkative, social and well respected diagnostician.” He let a smirk when she quirked her left eyebrow.
“I totally agree with the last one but I highly doubt about the first two y’know.”
He pressed her body closely to him, his eyes looking intensely into her dark brown. “And may I know why you’re doubting Dr. Craig?”
Instead of making it as a casual chat she turned it to something else. “About everything.” He got the message when she lowered her gaze playing mindlessly with the buttons of his lapel jacket. “I mean- what’s going to happen later Ethan? Some things have changed and we already are aware of it but...” She pressed her lips.
“But?”
“For how long? What if Bloom will try his tactics again to track another doctor and if there’s going to be someone else- who knows? I’m scared Ethan. What if this is the end of all of us? What if we lose our jobs for nonsense reasons?”
“I know. I’m worried about it too and I have absolutely no idea where this is going to take us. But one thing’s for sure.”
She let his hands cup her cheeks meeting with his face.
“No one...not even Bloom can tell us to back off from what is right. We will continue our mission, Naveen’s mission and we will always do it for the sake of the Oath. Don’t lose the confidence you have and all your thoughts even when they’re wrong. I’ve told you since the first day of your residency last year. It is not wrong to ask questions ‘cause if you didn’t well I would be very concerned. I know you say that you trust yourself but I don’t agree with it. So please... don’t overthink it. Let’s just enjoy this night while we can hm?”
His voice was so assuring and there was nothing else she wanted to hear.
The one she fell so hard capturing her in an inevitable trap.
His presence made her entirely safe whenever he gave a smile just like now with his eyes reflecting on hers like a magnet.
She wanted to stay there forever.
In his arms.
In his heart.
He seemed to notice it and kissed her forehead while she was closing her eyes.
“You always calm me down. How the hell you do this Rams’?”
“You’re not the only one with skills here lil girl.” She scrunched her nose when he tipped with his index finger. “Now I think we should leave before we are too late.”
“Actually...” She bit the corner of her lip. “Can we please not go? I don’t want to see that big rat blooming all the way up.” She pleaded while shrugging her right shoulder crossing her arms on her back.
“Klaw you can’t be serious.” When he saw her expression he scoffed before pointing his finger. “You’re too late to anything else because we’re dressed now for that occasion. Many doctors will be there and then is goin-.”
She grabbed instantly the back of his neck silencing him with a kiss. “Will you repeat that again doctor?”
“Not now Klaw-”
She kissed him again pinning him to the wall then whispering in a sultry voice.
“Wrong answer doctor. I’ll propose this- we’ll get the best scotch from Reggie and then buy some Calzones while we are enjoying the starry night that only the Boston’s sky can give us. Completely alone. Just the two of us. So...what do you say? I think it’s an opportunity of a lifetime.” She winked.
He sighed while looking up in the ceiling as if searching for help in his defeat. She loved making him at this state.
At her command.
“How the hell do you convince me Craig?”
“Well you’re not the only one with skills here old man.” She squeezed his cheeks while he was frowning. “Aww you’re so cute and you look like a fish doing ‘o’!”
He spoke or better tried to mumble the words. “I’m mnot olf man and I’m mnot ffsh!”
“Yeah yeah that’s why you can’t use the Instagram correctly.” She giggled when couldn’t contain her laughter anymore then took his hand leading them to the door. “Now shall we go because I’m really starving and we won’t make it home earlier.”
“True. We won’t make it home until the morning.”
He gave her a known devilish grin while he was unlocking the door that made her eyes go wide, her heartbeats accelerate and gulped hardly.
He winked.
Damn it.
This was going to be a very long night ahead of them.

Earth. For the time being, it looked like they’d be calling it home—along so with a host of Decepticons. With the Prime’s skills at diplomacy, the humans hadn’t quite welcomed the Autobots, but had at least agreed to leave them alone when they promised they intended no harm. And, once the Decepticons began to attack human establishments in search for energy and resources, the Autobots’ opposition of their enemy faction had warmed the humans to them further.
These were the kinds of details Sunstreaker didn’t care too much about, though. He held no love for the squishy organics that populated the planet, and the whole place was so full of… Dirt.
And now they were stuck here for the foreseeable future. His only consolation was the fact there were still Decepticons to fight to combat some of the boredom that might have otherwise come, and he had to admit that there was a strange kind of beauty to the alien world. Not to mention it had a star it orbited. They had stopped at other planets on the way to the accident that landed them here; daylight wasn’t something he hadn’t seen before, but it would be a long time before he got used to it after the eternal night Cybertron had been clad in for the entirety of his lifetime.
Sunrises and sunsets in particular were something to marvel at, and even now Sunstreaker sat on the edge of one of the Ark’s engines, the spaceship’s rear so protruding from the mountain it had been buried under for the longest time. It offered an excellent vantage point over the desert and the setting sun in the horizon. His drawing tablet was held steadily in his servos as he painted the sight with sure strokes of his stylus. It was a pleasure to even have a drawing tablet again, after he hadn’t possessed one since the beginning of the war. Excuse him for making the most of it now that he could.
Sideswipe’s voice rose from below him where his brother was chatting with Bluestreak and Jazz at Ark’s entrance. Sunstreaker let the conversation wash through him, Sideswipe’s laughter the only thing that he allowed to ring loud and clear in him. There was something about a bet relating to Prowl that Smokescreen had been organizing, Sideswipe’s intrigue over it clear. Jazz was always going to win any and all bets related to Prowl, but that never stopped others from trying to get even partial winnings. Wasn’t some fun at the expense of the black and white doorwinger just fun?
It was indeed, up until a fourth voice joined in. “I heard that.”
Sunstreaker grinned at Prowl’s flat and entirely unamused tone when the SIC joined them, his wings twitching stiffly in clear indication that he wasn’t all that pleased. Bluestreak squeaked and began to stammer apologies at once. Sideswipe just went on to laugh outright, as unapologetic as Jazz who wrapped an arm across Prowl’s shoulders. “Aw, Prowler. Just a bit of fun in good spirits, yeah? No harm intended, whatsoever.”
Prowl wasn’t having it, but Jazz was a terrible mech to argue with. With grins and playful words he shot down each of Prowl’s complaints until the tactician was dragging a servo down his faceplates, looking beyond frustrated.
Sideswipe was still snickering at the two, but Sunstreaker’s attention was pulled back to his work. The sun was going too low to be an useful reference anymore, but he was almost done anyway. One detail was fixed, other two added as he captured the last of the colors onto the screen, and then… He wasn’t going to make it look any better without spending an eternity on it.
Satisfied, Sunstreaker subspaced his tablet before pushing himself over the edge entirely, taking the too long fall down and landing heavily in the middle of the conversation. He took the pain in his legs gladly just for the others’ reactions. Sideswipe didn’t react in any way, of course; Jazz’s visor flashed and Prowl’s wings jerked and that was already quite a bit of reaction from them, but Bluestreak jumped back in fright. “Oh, Primus, Sunstreaker, can you not do that?” he squeaked. “I swear you’re going to snuff my spark one day with the scares you give by creeping up on mecha, and I don’t know how you even do it but it’s really disconcerting–!“
Satisfactory. “Do you want me to tell Ratchet that you’re apparently once again trying to injure yourself with foolhardy stunts?” Prowl asked from him, continuing on with laying down the effect his too sudden entries had on others–
There was just the slightest tug of a smirk at the corners of Sunstreaker’s mouth and he shrugged, uncaring despite the threats of getting Ratchet involved—which would end in something painful. In response Prowl’s doorwings hiked higher, but before he could gear up to more admonishment, Sideswipe clicked for their attention.
“As much as I’d love to stay and listen to your lovely voice,” his brother winked at the SIC, “I’ve got an early patrol in the morning. Figure I oughta go catch some recharge before that. Wouldn’t want to give the ‘Cons an easy kill ‘cause I was runnin’ low on charge.” In the middle of that Sideswipe set towards the Ark’s interior, Sunstreaker trailing a step after him.
“Have a good night!” Bluestreak wished after them, Jazz repeating the sentiment.
And Prowl, poor, poor Prowl only looked more aggravated. They’d inevitably do something to land themselves in his office again, though, they always did. He could lecture them all he wanted then.
And they would tune it all out and have no answers when Prowl demanded them to tell him what he’d just said. Then they’d be handed a punishment of some sort… Rinse and repeat ad infinitum. They never learned, much to their commanders’ eternal chagrin.
They headed straight to their quarters, Sideswipe practically dancing the way and Sunstreaker walking in a more sedate manner next to his energetic half. They passed a couple of mecha Sideswipe had friendly words for, Sunstreaker’s offer a glare, before they came to their door. Inside Sunstreaker laid down on their berth on his back, Sideswipe crawling on top of him, chest to chest. Their spark halves pushed on the insides of their spark chambers as they settled, drawn to each other with inescapable demand—but they didn’t merge their cores, only their fields. “Gotta find Smokes in the morning,” Sideswipe murmured. “I want in on that bet.”
“Shower and polish, too,” Sunstreaker added, letting his optics close once the lights in the room turned off. Sideswipe giggled.
“Wash before a dusty patrol, that’s such a good idea. It’s a backroads patrol, too.”
“It is.”
“Shower and polish. I need to get up early for that. Only need my ratios after the patrol.” Air pushed from Sideswipe’s vents as he relaxed fully and let silence fall despite his dislike of it, Sunstreaker taking his weight and doing the same. They set the length of their frames’ recharge cycles to give themselves enough time in the morning, before initiating them for their systems to power down.
They didn’t get the chance to run the full course of it, though. It was only three hours later according to their chronometers when there was a knock on their—careful, but loud enough to rouse them. They tensed, confused and still in the middle of bringing their systems online, but as ever, their combat programming reached its peak before anything else. Even if it was danger, they would be prepared.
However, a ping for identification said it was only Bluestreak. Sideswipe triggered the door to open. “Come in.”
Bluestreak’s optics glowed in the dark as he stepped into their room, wringing his servos together. “Thanks. I uh, ha-had a bad memory purge, I’m not really sure why because I haven’t done anything special, but I had one anyway a-and I really wouldn’t want to be alone right now but I can go if I’m bothering you–“
The twins untangled themselves and Sunstreaker scooted to the side until he was against the wall. Sideswipe gestured for Bluestreak to join them, his brother settling down next to Sunstreaker and beckoning Bluestreak to lay down on his other side. “’Course. C’mere and lemme cuddle you. I need a cuddlebuddy.”
Bluestreak cracked a small smile but took the invitation, nearly tripping over his own pedes in his rush to get the comfort of another. “I know you prefer to cuddle Sunny,” he said even as he got on the berth and burrowed into Sideswipe’s side, his doorwings in the open space behind him.
“Yeah, well, variety’s the spice of life,” Sideswipe grinned. “Plus he’s right there, so.” Sunstreaker huffed but let his optics offline again, Sideswipe doing the same. They didn’t continue their recharge cycles right away, though, instead waiting until Bluestreak began to relax and then, eventually, fell into his own recharge entirely, the sounds of his systems evening out. It likely wouldn’t be the last time they got the gunner in their berth like this, but it was big enough to accommodate all three of them, so what did it matter?
Besides, he was a friend, and wasn’t this what friends did?
