Will’s ‘Adventures’ chapter book special- When Lightning Strikes

I reread all the special ‘Adventures’ chapter books recently(with the exception of Irma’s- as I could never find it anywhere), this one was the best both in terms of added world building and humor. It DID have a glaring timey wimey plot issue (as its supposedly before Will and Matt got together but Will has knowlege of things she doesnt really learn until AFTER they get together and there is simply No Time in the narrative for it to have happened that it wouldnt have been referenced in the comic itself as happening) but if you just turn your brain off about that its a perfectly fine book.

Im not a first person POV kind of person, so I was expecting the narrative to be physically painful the whole way through, but it was actually held up to my memories very well. Just a nice, solid, barely-canon filler.

The book itself introduces a new world, and two new species to the mix- 

‘Nimbus’- a planet with severe weather and red lightning. Magic here is known, but seemingly a rarer craft.

‘Solar Salamanders’- Shapeshifters who eat electricity and are magically bound by their promises. Their eyes seem to stay the same no matter what form they take, however, and may be trapped in one form if they run low on power. They have blue and orange morality and are known for stealing things. They keep territories and some are capable of shifting into light and physics-wiggling themselves into different dimensions/worlds. An unnamed sheep-like species- Bipedial humanoids, Males have horns, females have a coating of wool over their body, no other description is given so go hogwild, folks. Be as furry as you want about it. The young are possibly called ‘lambkin’. This species wears cloaks as must-have outdoorwear.

Honorable mention- Cornelia’s special- Stolen Spring for being more canon-compliant than all but Hay Lin’s and making it 100% clear-canon that Irma jokes intentionally to diffuse tension and that Cornelia appreciates that effort very much so I can feel vindicated about only writing Cornelia and Irma as ‘friends who come to each other to fight because they are safe outlets for each other’s nonsense and know they dont really mean it.’ Because of the canon plausibility being *right there*.
