The sound of Eren's alarm woke him out of the deep sleep he was in.
He groaned as he reached over to grab his phone which was still blaring the annoying sound of his alarm. It was morning already? He felt so exhausted and he just wanted to roll over, and sleep the rest of the day away.
But sadly he couldn't.
Eren's eyes squinted as he looked at the screen which read the time, it was 8:55 a.m. He sat up in his bed and rubbed his temples, his hair was messy from sleeping, and his ankle slightly ached from the pain he was in.
Sighing, he sat up and grabbed some clothes. His body felt tired as he yawned and stretched his muscles, feeling a few joints pop as he moved around. Boy did that feel good.
Eren tied his hair into a bun and threw on a sweater and sweatpants. His usual. Eren didn't really care to get dressed, who was he impressing? Plus it was a pretty chilly morning, the temperatures were dropping as fall began to become more known. He just wanted to be comfortable.
Eren wrapped his ankle with the wrap given to him by the nurse, and popped a few medications into his mouth before heading out of his dorm to the main campus for class. The exhaustion going through him was enough to make him walk slower to class, plus with his limp, it made him slower than usual.
He was never usually this early to class, most of the time Eren was with Jean or Reiner talking about the game or simply goofing off. Unfortunately, most of his teammates avoided him or just gave him dry responses. It was difficult for him and in a way, it kind of hurt a bit. Seeing your own teammates being so against you that they have to avoid you really sucked.
"You're here early Eren… that's a surprise." Professor Ackerman said, opening the door to his room.
Eren rubbed the back of his neck and walked into the empty class. A few students trailed behind him and went to their own seats, Eren stared into space waiting for class to begin.
Within a few minutes, Professor Ackerman stood at the front of the class. "Good morning, I hope you all are doing fine or whatever. Let's talk about what you're going to be doing today," he explained, grabbing his papers.
Eren sighed with boredom and tapped his pencil on the counter. What was he going to do this time?
"Today you're all going to be starting a brand new project. It's based on the unit we've been covering for the last two weeks, so I hope you've been taking notes and paying attention. To save some time, I decided to partner you up with someone else in the class," Professor Ackerman said, leaning against his desk.
A few small groans and eye rolls came from students hearing the words "project" and "partners".
"Enough of the groaning, I know it's not ideal but it's better than going through 20 different presentations." he said and crossed his arms. "I'll be pairing you with someone randomly, this project must be done as a pair. If I see that one person did more than the other it will deduct points off your grade," he added.
Eren leaned back in his chair and looked around the class. He pondered as to who his partner could be.
"Listen for your names and once I call it raise your hands," Professor Ackerman said, looking around the class.
Different names began to be called, some people groaned at the realization of who their partners were, others just shrugged and seemed unfazed by it all.
"Eren Jaeger and (Y/N) (L/N)."
Eren's eyes went as wide as saucers hearing that name again. (Y/N) and Eren hadn't talked in years, especially after the embarrassment that went down their freshmen year. He knew she was in his class, but he never really paid much attention to her.
"Get started on this immediately, the project will be due next week. No funny business either," Professor Ackerman said and turned to sit at his desk.
Eren shifted in his chair and watched as (Y/N) made her way towards him, she seemed totally unfazed and sort of annoyed by the situation she was in.
She had changed quite a bit. It had been about 3 years since they last talked with one another.
"H-Hey.." Eren said as she plopped down in the chair next to him.
(Y/N) looked blankly at him and opened her laptop. "Here.. put your email in," she said, avoiding his gaze.
Eren put his email in and pushed her laptop back towards her. The atmosphere felt awkward and thick between them.
"Do you want to go to the library? When you have the time," she asked and averted her eyes towards him.
Eren nodded, looking up from his phone. "Yeah.. that's fine," he replied.
The two sort of silently worked with each other, no words were spoken between them. Eren felt the tension and so did (Y/N). Who could blame them? It had been 3 whole years since they last had an encounter like this. Of course he'd see her sometimes in the hallways, or getting some coffee, but they never spoke verbally to one another.
"Alright you're all dismissed, remember to work on this project as much as you can." Professor Ackerman said.
Eren and (Y/N) stood up. "I'll see you later," she said, walking away from him.
This was going to be just great.
-
Most of Eren's classes seemed to fly by as it was now the end of the day. He was supposed to meet with (Y/N) in the library later, of course it was awkward. She didn't seem too interested in what he had to say, nor did she seem talkative.
(Y/N) sat in the library patiently waiting on her phone. Curse Professor Ackerman for putting them together. Her view on Eren Jaeger did not change one bit. His actions caused a lot of embarrassment for her, a lot of people saw the video of her that day in biology, and they made fun of her.
It wasn't an overstatement to say she hated Eren Jaeger.
She stared at her laptop screen as she heard the library doors open. Her eyes averted to see Eren making his way towards her, she noticed his limp which made her brows furrow.
"Hey, sorry for being a bit late. I got caught up with my friend," Eren said, throwing an apologetic look her way. "So uh.. I have some ideas for the project," he added.
(Y/N) nodded. "What are the ideas?" she asked, raising a brow.
"So.. we could add some different examples of the different bacteria. You know? Shorten it down a bit, because if we make it longer than we should he'll take points off." Eren explained. "Let's do it that way," he added.
(Y/N) wasn't exactly amused with the idea. She felt like shortening it would also give them points off.
"I don't think we should do that. If we make it too short then we get points off too," she replied.
Eren stared at her confused. "Then we just make it medium. I'll do the easier slides," he said, shrugging. "It'll be a good grade for the both of us. You're smart so," he added.
(Y/N) furrowed her brows and felt irritation going through her. "Dude that's not fair to me at all. We should just do every other slide, that gives me all the hard work. It isn't fair," she said, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Look, it's easier for the both of us. It is fair, let's just do it my way," he said, looking at her.
(Y/N) rolled her eyes. "We did it your way last time and you fucked it up," she replied.
Eren looked at her and furrowed his brows. "You're still mad about that?! Come on (Y/N), get over it. You're being overdramatic," he said, crossing his arms.
That's when she had enough and grabbed her stuff, pushing it into her backpack.
"Where are you going?" he asked as he watched her sling her backpack over her shoulder.
(Y/N) scoffed. "You know… your teamwork skills are absolutely shitty. You're selfish and you always think for yourself. That's why our project went to shit freshmen year, I'm tired of biting my tongue with you. Fuck off Eren," she said standing up. "Maybe for once.. take a look at the shit you do from other people's point of view," she added, exiting the library.
That's when it hit him.
He did have shitty teamwork skills. (Y/N) even said it herself.
Everyone was right about Eren, he was a selfish person. The answer was clear in front of him. Guilt washed over him as he realized what he had done, not just to his team, but to (Y/N) too.
He had to find (Y/N), maybe she could help him.
-
(Y/N) stared at the ceiling as frustration ran through her.
Eren Jaeger really didn't change huh?
"Why are you sulking? You seem pissed," her roommate Sasha asked while plopping down on her bed.
(Y/N) laughed a bit and sat up. "Eren Jaeger… that's why," she replied, leaning her body against the wall. "He's so stupid," she added, looking at her roommate.
Sasha nodded. "Oh! I remember him, he's such an asshole. Did you see his giant fail?! It was so funny," she said, beginning to laugh at the thought of the video.
(Y/N) looked at her and shook her head. "No? I personally don't care what he does. I'm probably gonna email Professor Ackerman… I can't stand working with Eren. He wants everything done his way! He never listens," she replied, rolling her eyes in annoyance.
Sasha's phone began to vibrate. She grabbed it and grinned. "Oop! Connie texted me, I gotta go (Y/N). I'll see you later," she said, standing up to get her shoes. "I hope you feel better! I'll kick Eren in the nuts for you," she said giggling.
(Y/N)'s lips drew to a smile. "Alright.. have fun with Connie. Not too much fun though," she replied, winking at her.
Sasha opened the door to their dorm. "No promises!" she replied, exiting the room.
The door shut with a click and (Y/N) was now alone in her dorm. It was a usual night with Sasha leaving to go see her boyfriend Connie. (Y/N) wished she could have that luxury with someone else, but she wasn't exactly interested in anybody. Her dreams were just too much for love.
A sudden knock came from the door.
Confused, (Y/N) stood up. Sasha probably forgot a condom or something, the girl was always so forgetful.
She opened the door expecting Sasha to be there. "Forget a condom-" her eyes averted to see Eren standing there with his backpack.
"Can I talk to you, please?" he asked with desperation in his voice. "I won't be here long," he added, looking down at her.
(Y/N) fell silent and opened the door wider so he could enter. "How do you know where my dorm is?" she asked, furrowing her brows.
Eren looked back at her. "We did the project in your dorm, plus I never really forget what dorms I go to." he replied, looking around her dorm.
"So why are you here? If you're here to work on the project, I don't want to hear it." (Y/N) asked, crossing her arms.
Eren sighed, placing his backpack down. "Look… (Y/N), I realized what I did to you earlier was wrong. You're right.. it isn't fair to you, and I realize that now. I'd like to also apologize for embarrassing you freshmen year, I was childish and I feel guilty for doing it." he said.
(Y/N) was surprised hearing Eren sound so apologetic. She's never once heard him speak that way towards anyone.
"I appreciate the apology… but it still doesn't change what you did. I can forgive you Eren, but I can't forget," she replied, looking down at the floor.
He nodded. "That's understandable," he said.
The two fell silent as the tension took over. (Y/N) decided to ease the tension a bit.
"What happened to your ankle?" she asked, pointing down at his ankle which was wrapped.
He chuckled. "Oh, you concerned for me now princess?" he asked, smirking.
She rolled her eyes and opened the door. "Get out," she said, pointing at the outside of the door.
Eren put his hands up in defense. "Wait wait! I'm messing with you, I'm sorry. That was too soon," he replied, smacking his head. "Let me explain," he added, sitting down in the chair next to her bed.
(Y/N) closed the door, crossing her arms as she watched him take out his phone. Her brows furrowed as Eren seemed to be looking for something on it.
He held it out to her. "Here.. this is what happened," he said, looking up at her.
(Y/N) took his phone from his fingers and played the video which was from Twitter, specifically a sports account. She watched as Eren caught the ball and was tackled to the ground, she could see the way his ankle bent. She cringed as she saw the replay of it.
"Ouch… that looks like it hurt," she said, tossing his phone back towards him. "But why are you still here?" she asked, nodding her head in confusion.
Eren pushed his phone into his sweater pocket. "I got kicked off the team.." he replied, looking at the floor.
Her (e/c) eyes widened hearing the news. She heard people talk a lot about Eren, he was popular considering he was on the football team. She knew he was at D1 level. That's why he was here.
"Um.. if you don't mind me asking, why?" she asked, sitting down on Sasha's bed.
Eren ran his fingers through his messy bun. "It's uh.. kind of a long story in a way." he replied. "I can explain it to you if you'd like," he added, giving a weak smile.
She nodded and looked towards the floor. "Sure… I guess," she said, crossing her legs on the bed.
Eren sighed. "Basically at the most recent rival game, I ended up playing while I was hurt. My coach told me many times that if I was in pain I should come off the field, but I was fine the day before. I just thought it was nothing," he explained, shrugging his shoulders. "Then during the last play, which we were in the lead by the way, I ran for Jean's ball and we ended up hitting each other. The ball bounced off of us and it intercepted, so they won by a touchdown." he added.
(Y/N) nodded and started to process what he said. Sounds like a selfish move in a way, to her at least.
"So wait… that doesn't explain how you got kicked off," she said.
He chuckled a bit. "I'm getting to that," he said, adjusting his body in the chair. "Basically my coach told me the other day that I was benched, or you know kicked off, because I have shitty teamwork skills and apparently I'm selfish. I guess my other teammates have said it too," he added.
She nodded her head again while listening to more of what he said. She could see why his coach did it, sometimes you have to do things for the best possible outcome. Considering it was Eren Jaeger out of all people, he probably didn't see why.
"That is crazy.. I'm sorry," she said and rubbed the back of her neck. "I know things will get better," she added, laughing a bit. Eren stared at her as she sat there awkwardly. "Uh.." she said, looking around the room.
Eren shook his head. "Sorry.. um, that's what I wanted to talk to you about." he said. "If you want to listen," he added.
(Y/N) furrowed her brows. "Okay.. go ahead," she replied, adjusting herself on Sasha's bed.
Eren leaned back in the chair. "I need help," he said. "And you are the only person I know that can help me. Please, help me fix my teamwork skills." he said with a pleading tone. "You don't have to of course, but I need this (Y/N). I need this season majorly for my career," he added, looking at her with desperation circling in his eyes.
She stayed silent as her gaze dropped to the floor. Would helping him be beneficial at all? Doesn't he have other friends?
"Um.. Eren-"
"Please. I need your help," he said, cutting her off.
She sighed. "What's in it for me huh? I'm not doing it unless I get something in return," she replied, crossing her arms.
He looked around the room for a moment. "You can do the project your way, I won't interfere or tell you what to do." he said, raising his brows a bit.
She thought for a moment. She'll get a good grade and if it leads to him just shutting up, then fine.
"I'm not so sure Eren.. I doubt I can help you," she said, shrugging a bit.
"(Y/N). Please. I'm literally begging you at this point, you have great teamwork skills! I remember your presentation in biology and how you got the best grade in the class with your partner, please help." he pleaded.
She sighed, blowing air out of her nose. "Fine.. but we do it my way. We'll meet up again in a few days to get started," she said, standing up.
Eren's eyes were wide. "Wait really!? Thank you (Y/N)! You're fucking awesome," he said, grinning widely at her.
Heat rushed to her cheeks hearing what he said. "U-Uh, yeah whatever. Text me and we'll talk about it," she replied, grabbing her phone and handing it to him.
Eren put his number in and handed her phone back. "Say less, I'll see you in class." he said, giving her a toothy smile.
"Yeah whatever," she said, opening the door so he could leave.
She watched as he limped down the hall and exited the front doors of the residence hall, she closed the door to her dorm and leaned against it with a sigh.
What was she getting herself into?

28 & 42 with matty please 🥺
28. “how drunk was i?” + 42. “stop being so cute” w/ matty tkachuk
“Could you please drive slower,” you groaned, pressing your head against the cold window. “Or at least try and not hit curbs. It’s a miracle the state of Missouri granted you a drivers license.”
“It’s not my fault you decided to do a shots contest with Sam,” Matt laughed, reaching out the bottle of pedialyte to you and nudging you with the end of it.
“I was defending your honor,” you mumbled, grabbing the bottle from him and opening it, closing your eyes as you took a sip.
“My honor didn’t need defending, thank you. Besides, that’s his big party trick.” Matt took the bottle back from you and put it down in the cup holder. “Go after the newbie, challenge whoever they came with to a shots contest, add in a wager and boom, hook line and sinker. Newbie gets wasted and Sam gets richer.”
“You could’ve warned me,” you sighed, shutting your eyes tight to hopefully relieve the slight headache.
“I did and totally got shit for it by the way because it’s a huge party foul,” he laughed. “But you were already buzzed from pre-gaming and brushed me off. ‘Don’t worry, Matty. I’ve got this,’ I believe is what you said.”
“Well now I don’t want to go to this team barbecue,” you said, sitting up and turning towards him with a pout on your face. “I probably made a fool of myself and they all think that I’m stupid or easy or something.”
“Nah,” he replied, shaking his head as he came to a stop outside of a beautiful two-story craftsman style home. “It’s his thing, think of it as an initiation of sorts. Besides, no one else takes it up because they know he holds his alcohol like a camel holds water. Everyone’s been in your shoes before.”
“Whatever you say,” you sighed, taking off your seatbelt and getting out of the car. “At least I didn’t make a fool of myself then.”
“Well,” he sang, nodding his head from side to side. “I wouldn’t say that you didn’t necessarily...do that.”
You stared at him, holding onto the plate of cookies the two of you made earlier this morning as he walked beside you. “What do you mean, necessarily?”
“Come on, we’re running late.” He said, nudging your lower back as the two of you walked towards the front door of the Giordano’s home.
“You tell me right now Matthew Tkachuk,” you demanded, standing on the front porch as he rang the doorbell. “Tell me right now or I’ll call–”
“Matt, Y/N,” Gio smiled, looking relaxed in board shorts and a tank top. “Come on in, everyone’s out back.”
“Thanks, man.” Matt smiled, greeting Gio with a broshake before leading you through the house, raising an eyebrow at you as he smirked, knowing damn well he got out of your threat.
You’d known Matt and his family since forever, really. They moved across the street when Keith had gotten traded to the St. Louis Blues and your Mom was thrilled that there were two kids your age moving right across the street, practically giving you instant friends. Matt was a year older than you, Brady a year younger which was perfect. And an instant friendship is what it was. You grew close with the two Tkachuk brothers and Taryn too once she came along.
Family summer barbecues, invites to the Tkachuk’s lake house, carpooling throughout elementary school, movie nights on the weekends when there weren’t hockey games, watching Keith play from the family box, teaming up with Brady against Matt in any pick-up game and when Matt went to Charminade instead of the public middle school like you did, he was at the receiving end of the chirping lessons and notes you’d picked up from Brady and Keith.
It sucked when he decided to go off and join the USHL sophomore year of high school, ending up all the way in Michigan at the USNTDP for the remainder of your high school careers, but that just made the summers all that better. The two of you would spend the three months catching up on the others’ lives– friendships, drama, hockey, relationships– and then he’d go off again for another nine months and come back and you’d do it all again. And that never changed once he went off to the OHL. Besides his family, you were the first person he told about choosing to go for the draft and were even invited alongside the Tkachuk clan, sitting beside Brady when you heard his name called as the sixth overall pick. And sitting next to Matthew two years later when Brady got drafted fourth overall.
He went off to Calgary and you went to Mizzou, the two of you staying in touch over text messages, facetime calls, an occasional email when he felt like being a pest cause you didn’t respond to his text right away. And when the summer rolled around, you both returned back to your hometown and picked up right where you left off, like nothing had changed and nothing skipped a beat.
Until this past summer, when something did change.
••••
A late night in the Tkachuk’s driveway on Matt and Brady’s last night before they’d go back off to their respective training camps. Your two roommates from college had decided to fly in early from their respective states so the three of you could all arrive at school together that weekend. Matt and Brady had invited some of their high school friends over too, the group just sitting around a portable fire pit as you all mingled and laughed, sipping on the mixed drinks you guys had been making all night.
Which is exactly what led the group of twenty somethings to play what started out as a game of never have I ever but eventually turned into most likely to. By the time you all were in at least a couple of rounds, the mood was light and everyone was laughing.
“Most likely to…” Callie, your roommate, smiled as she looked around the circle. “Get a ‘special’ piercing.”
“Special piercing?” Brady asked, furrowing his eyebrows. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“Like on your dick, dude,” Max, one of Matt’s friends chimed in, looking at Callie. “Or for girls, nipple piercings or…” his eyes dwindled down, the sexual tension between them had been high all night and no one could stand it.
“God, please just get a room and thump it out already,” Tori, your other roommate replied, rolling her eyes as she pointed at Callie. “My votes for her.”
“Same,” you smiled, pointing at Callie.
“You guys are cheaters! You were there with me!” She groaned, shaking her head as the four boys followed suit and pointed at her, making her the one who had to drink.
“Shouldn’t have asked such a dumb question then.” You smiled, shrugging your shoulders.
“Fine, Tori?” She leaned over to tori and whispered, the two of them looking at you with smiles.
“Okay, most likely to..” Tori’s gaze settled on you as she raised her cup. “Fall in love with their best friend?”
Immediately, you felt your cheats get hot as you watched the two of them point at you. It only got worse when you saw both Max and Trevor pointing at Matt, who looked just as embarrassed.
Brady laughed, resting his cup between his legs as he used both hands to point at the two of you. “I love this game.”
“Oh fuck off, all of you,” You said, flipping them off as you and Matt both took sips of your drinks, not even daring to look at the other.
“No, no, I think I’d love to explore this one,” Trevor smiled, nodding at Matt. “Clearly since both friend groups and Brady voted for the both of you, there’s gotta be something there.”
“Or you’re all just a bunch of drunk assholes,” Matt replied, shaking his head. “Just because I’m a guy and she’s a girl, doesn’t mean we can’t be platonic best friends.”
“There’s nothing platonic about the sex eyes you guys give each other when the other isn’t looking, Matt.” Max laughed, patting his shoulder.
“I suggest a new game,” Tori smiled, raising her hand. “Seven minutes in heaven and the first two to go are Matt,” she pointed at Matt and then turned to you. “And Y/N. All in favor?”
Everyone raised their hands and you wanted to sink into your chair and disappear. “Maybe it’ll eas the sexual tension that’s been building since 9th grade.” Brady laughed, shoving Matt out of his chair.
“This is stupid,” you said, shaking your head as Trevor got up behind you and nudged you out of your chair, Tori grabbing both yours and Matt’s hands and dragging you over to the garage. “Come on–”
“Inside, seven minutes,” She smiled, nodding at Matt to enter the garage code.
He rolled his eyes and did as she said, the door slowly opening to reveal Matt’s old dodge sedan he got for his 16th birthday. “Let me guess, lights on so you guys can creep in through the windows and get off?”
“Oh no, lights off,” Tori smiled, nudging you both into the garage. “It’s not our business what the two of you get up to. But trust me, I’ve seen Y/N come back from plenty of make-out sessions and shes easy to read, so I’ll know if the two of you are lying.”
She pressed the code Matt had done and waved as the door closed between you, leaving you and Matt in the dark. He sighed and pulled out his phone, turning of the flashlight as you stood there. “We don’t have to do this, Y/N.”
“She wasn’t lying when she said she’ll know, Matt.” You sighed, shaking your head. “She’s like a freaking psychic or something I don’t know.”
He laughed, nudging you to the car. “Well, we can at least sit in the car instead of standing by the door. Cobwebs, you know?”
You agreed and the two of you walked towards his car, Matt opening the door and getting inside. “The fact that you don’t lock your car in the garage is concerning,” you laughed, closing the door behind you as he did the same.
“It’s a safe neighborhood.” He replied, shrugging. “So...that was interesting...the game.”
“Or our friends are assholes,” you laughed.
“That too.”
It’s not like you’d never wanted to kiss him before, because you had. For the entirety of junior high, you’d dreamt of Matt being your first kiss, but that went to Trevor during a game of truth or dare at his own 13th birthday party. Besides that crushing defeat, Matt never showed any interest in you like that. You never caught his gaze lingering on yours or him taking a double look at you when you were even in your hottest bathing suit at the lake. As much as you hated it, to him it was like you were one of the guys. Which is why it was even more embarrassing that Trevor and Max had claimed Matt was most likely to fall in love with his best friend.
Because that was you and you were more than sure he still pictured you in your tomboy phase.
“I’m never going to hear the end of this,” you sighed, resting your head back. “They’ll bring it up at every party, watch.”
“Why? Because we didn’t wildly make out in the garage?” He laughed, looking over at you only to see that you weren’t laughing. “Oh shit, you’re serious.”
“Dead serious.” You replied, shrugging your shoulders. “Oh well it’s senior year, I can take it.”
“What if you don’t have to?” He asked, shrugging. “I’ll kiss you if it means you won’t get tormented.”
“Wow, maybe don’t act like kissing me is such an inconvenience, Matty,” you laughed, rolling your eyes.
“You’re dramatic.”
“You’re mean.”
“How am I mean?” He laughed, leaning onto the center console.
“Because you made it sound like kissing me was a chore!” You huffed, rolling your eyes again. “Which, by the way it isn’t because I am a great–”
His mouth was on yours before you could finish your sentence. The moment you melted into the kiss, his hand came up and cupped the side of your face as you parted your lips slightly, allowing his tongue to brush against yours. And before you could even get your body to move over the center console, there was a knock on the garage door.
••••
You’d kissed quite a few people in your time at college and even before. Boys, girls, the few short term boyfriends you had– but nothing ever made your stomach twist into the knots that kissing Matt did. And since then, you hadn’t been able to get it out of your head...but your friendship stayed the same.
Spring Break, Matt asked if you wanted to come up and stay with him since Calgary weren’t on the road for the week you’d be there and you took him up on it. Finally excited to meet his teammates and friends he’d spent so much time telling you about and talking about. Part of you came under false pretenses, though. Sure, you wanted to spend time with Matt, but you also wanted to talk to him and ask him about that kiss...something you could never manage to do over the phone. But four days here and you hadn’t mustered up the courage to do so.
Which meant you only had three days left to do it or else you’d have to wait until the summer when he came home– which was pure torture.
“Well if it isn’t my girlfriend!” Sam smiled, standing at the edge of the pool with Jacob next to him.
“I’m sorry, what?” You laughed, placing the cookies down onto the food table as Matt walked beside you. “Please tell me he’s kidding.”
“I told you that you didn’t not totally act a fool,” Matt replied, rolling his eyes.
You looked at Sam and stomped over, poking his chest. “I want my $10 back. I know your party trick.”
“Sorry, babe.” Sam smiled, shrugging his shoulders. “A bets a bet. Which speaking of,” he looked over your shoulder where Matt was standing and then back at you. “We need to talk about last night.”
You looked towards Jacob, frowning. “Are you sure I’m not dating you instead?”
Jacob laughed. “Unfortunately, not.”
Sam rolled his eyes and held your hand, walking you away towards the Giordano’s back deck. “Okay, in all seriousness...are we playing it up today or not?”
Your eyebrows furrowed as you shook your head. “Playing what up?”
He exhaled, shaking his head. “We were going to fake it today, being into each other to make Matt jealous so he’ll make a move.”
“I’m sorry, what?” You blinked at him in shock before laughing. “How drunk was I?”
“Drunk enough to where you told me how you’ve been in love with Matt since junior high and that the two of you kissed this summer and it was,” he cleared his throat, smiling at you. “The best damn kiss of my entire life, I swear it made me we–’”
You gasped, smacking his shoulder. “Stop, no I didn’t.”
“But you did, babe. So, I agreed to make Matt jealous, which shouldn’t be too hard because he doesn’t seem all that pleased that we’re standing over here talking.”
Sure enough, you looked over your shoulder to see Matt frowning as he talked to Jacob, his eyes moving away from you and Sam. You looked back at Sam, crossing your arms. “You don’t think I’m overthinking it?”
“Please, do you know how excited we all were when he told us you were spending the week with him?” Sam laughed, taking a sip from his cup. “Everyone knows he’s practically in love with you and we’ve all been waiting for him to make a move. So if this is what does it, I’m game.”
“Okay, let’s do it.” You smiled, shaking his hand.
You and Sam spent the better half of the day together, laughing and getting to know each other. He was a pretty nice guy and you could understand why him and Matt were close. Matt stayed nearby the entire time and sometimes it was like he was eavesdropping on your conversations. Sam made sure to throw in some flirty banter during a fun game of volleyball in the pool and kanjam with Jacob and Elias.
But it wasn’t until you were playing with Gio’s daughter at one of the kids table where she was drawing you a picture. You were helping her pick out what glitter pens and markers to use when Matt came over, tapping you on the shoulder. “Can we talk?” He asked, looking at the pool.
You looked over to see Sam with Jacob, a smirk on his face as he sent you a knowing wink. You looked back at Matt and nodded. “Sure,” before turning back to Gio’s daughter and telling her you’d be back.
Matt walked ahead of you the entire time as he lead you towards where you and Sam had met up earlier, only this time he stopped around the side of the porch, leaning against it as he took a sip of his drink. “You can’t do that.”
“Do what?” You laughed, crossing your arms. “Sit with a little girl and help her draw a picture.”
“No, yes...ugh,” he groaned, leaning his head back. “Just...don’t do it, okay?”
You furrowed your brows, shaking your head. “I don’t understand, Matt.”
“You with kids!” He huffed, motioning back to the pool. “It’s cute and you’re cute and damn it, Y/N, stop being so cute! It’s giving me thoughts of you with kids and you having kids and you can’t have kids with Sam, okay?”
“Is this about me and Sam?” You laughed, pointing towards the pool. “Because it was all a show, Matt. Sam and I aren’t dating and we’re not anything, it was just a joke.”
“Oh,” he paused, his cheeks turning red. “Okay, that’s good.”
“It is?”
“Yeah,” he placed his cup on the edge of the porch behind him and reached out, grabbing your waist and pulling you into him. “Cause then he won’t be mad if I do this.”
His hands moved up to cup your face before he pressed his mouth to yours, the scruff scratching against your chin as you pushed yourself further into him, wrapping your arms around his waist and letting your hands travel up his back. Before you could deepen the kiss, he pulled back and sighed. “I’ve been wanting to do that again ever since–”
“This summer,” you sighed, nodding your head. “Yeah, me too.”
You kissed him again, feeling him smile against your lips as his hands moved back and tangled themselves in your hair. Matt pulled back again, looking down beside you and raising his eyebrows. You looked down to see Gio’s daughter standing there, a smile on her face. “Sam told me to give this to you.”
She held up the piece of paper and once Matt took it, she ran off giggling. He looked at it and laughed, rolling his eyes before turning it around to face you. The glitter additions belonged to her, but the two kissing figures sitting in a tree...did not. Especially since Sam’s sloppy handwriting was tucked in the corner. The two of you looked back over at the pool to see Sam smiling at the art table, waving.
Matt rolled his eyes and looked back at you, brushing his thumb against your cheek. “Any way I can convince you to go on a date with me before you leave?”
“I think I can fit that into my schedule.”

Young Just us college au
Rent a room, Dick said. It’ll be a nice experience. Don’t just buy a flat, that’s boring and lonely.
Tim had tried to tell his brother that maybe he prefered lonely to crazy, but Dick had insisted. And everyone knew just how difficult dealing with that could be, so he knew better than to resist.
At least, he had tried to comfort himself, he knew the people he’d be rooming with. They were all his friends, an odd assortment of assholes he’d picked up on school, summer camps, vacation trips, scientific events, even comic cons, and just… fell platonically in love with them.
Maybe, as Dick said, it would be fine.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
No, it wasn’t fine.
-Jay -he whispered into the phone, hoping he wouldn't be heard by the others on the other side of the door- Jay, they are crazy. I need extraction asap. We could fake my death and I can go to University somewhere else.
The older man laughed in the other end of the receiver, the sound of pages rustling indicating Tim had caught him during his daily grading paper sesion. That was the sound of crying students dying over carefully demolished arguments.
-They are all your friends, Timbo. If you fake your death, you’ll need to start over again and meet new people.
Tim hissed.
-Exactly, babybird. Also, this is day one of sharing a house, how bad can it possibly be?
-Jay, they left the kitchen lights on. It’s daytime! Why the hell do they need the lights on? Aren’t they aware of how big the bill is gonna be if they are like this?
-...Timmy, you… you are a billionaire. I think that should be the last of your concerns.
-That’s not the only thing. It’s so noisy, Jay. I choose the attic room hoping it’ll be nice and quiet. It’s not. I can hear everything. What do I do if some of them pair up? I’ll be stuck here listening to them having sex forever!
-...I don’t know where to begin.
-You can start by contacting B for me. He was right when he said it wasn’t a good idea for me to live with other people. But I can’t call him to help me out of this, because I think Dick blocked my number in his phone, and my emails don’t seem to be reaching him.
-He said it because you are the purest of his children, and he knew college was corruptive enough without adding dorm sharing to it; that was his version of helicopter parenting. But Timbo, it’s moving day. You’ve been there for less than five hours. And you already emailed B?
-The first thing Slobo did when he came in was to fart. In the middle of the living room. I can’t live with them, they are animals!
-They are your best friends, you’ve known them forever.
-But I never had to deal with them in a closed space for an unlimited amount of time!!! I’m trapped here.
-...
-...!
-...Are you hiding in a closet?
-...no. That would be stupid, in a three story house where I have my own/
-You are, ain’tcha?
-I am. Please help me?
Long sigh- I’ll meet you for coffee on the place near the Economics building so you have an excuse to be out for the evening while the others finish their moving. You’re done with your part, right?
-Yes! Thank you!
-You owe me.
-Next time Dick wants bonding time, I’ll sacrifice myself volunteering so you can run.
-And this is why you’re my favorite. Be there in ten.
-.-.-.-.-.-
-Tim? Tim! Here you are!
Blinking was a thing Tim suddenly remembered he needed to do, and he did it a few times as his eyes were dragged away from his book by a pair of hands on his cheeks.
-Kon? What are you doing in the library?
The other boy was panting slightly, flushed from what Tim guessed was a desperate run there.
-I was looking for you! You never came back after classes were done for the day, and you didn’t pick up your phone. We were very worried, dude.
-I was just studying, chill.
-It’s almost midnight.
No, it couldn’t be.
-No, it isn’t. I haven’t been here that long.
Serious and slightly worried, Conner thrusted his own phone in Tim’s face and… uh. Look at that. It was nearly midnight.
-Oh. Got distracted with research, sorry.
-It’s been barely two weeks, how much can you possibly need to study?
Unprompted, Kon started to help him pack his books and papers. He seemed utterly amazed by the almost illegible graphs and charts.
-No, this isn’t homework. I’m working on a thing for WE…
The rest of the way home was spent with Tim talking Conner’s ear off about shit he had absolutely no idea about, but didn’t complain, just holding Tim’s backpack with one hand while steering his sleep deprived friend back home with the other.
-.-.-.-.-.
-Bart? -Tim yawned, getting into the kitchen and raising a confused eyebrow at his friend- It’s… three am. What are you doing awake?
-Stress baking -the smaller boy replied, never stopping stirring the bowl- You?
-Papers and presentations.
-Classes or WE?
-Bit of both. What are you making?
-Cupcakes. Want some?
-They’ll go great with coffee, thanks.
They spent the next half hour waiting for the oven to do its magic talking about video games, classes and evil teachers.
-Your brother is the worst. TA. Ever. He always grades my papers and he’s a bitch about them.
-He relishes in the pain. It’s what keeps him young. I swear he never grew past fifteen.
-It’s scary, and honestly so annoying. Like, I get pointing out mistakes, but he doesn’t need to be a passive aggressive ass about it.
-I’ll let him know what you think.
-Please don’t. I’m afraid of him, and the power he holds in his hands. The power to make me fail Creative Writing.
-Why are you even taking that class? Actually, what even is your major?
A shrug, and before Bart could open his mouth to reply, the timer let them know the cupcakes where done.
-You can have one before bedtime, dude. The circles under your eyes look like make up at this point.
-You are one to talk, mister Stress Baking at Three in the Morning.
-But unlike you, I don’t have to be up at the ass of dawn. C’mon, have one of these and back up you go.
-Bite me.
-I’d rather bite this peanut butter miracle, but if you insist…
-No! Bart, get away from me!
-Then go to bed!
-Go to hell!
-I AM in hell! I have Jason Fucking Todd as my TA!
-IF YOU DON’T GO BACK TO BED RIGHT NOW, I’LL KICK YOU BOTH ALL THE WAY THERE! -Cassie’s voice echoed in the walls, and they both blanched at the reminder that her room was, in fact, in ground floor.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
A part of college Tim had never considered, let alone readied himself for, was the… party bit.
-What do you mean, of course you’re coming -laughed Anita, clutches firm on Tim’s sleeve as she dragged him into hers and Cassie’s room.
-No, I have to study for…
-You don’t have any midterm or final this week. I know, because I checked. No papers due either. This is literally the perfect time for you to party.
-I can’t, I…
-Suck at socializing? Yeah, cher, I’m aware. That’s why awesome me is taking you as my plus one for this party. No need to thank me, glad to be your social buffer whenever you need me.
Tim started to resist in earnest when they got into the room and he caught a glimpse of the clothing Anita had apparently chosen for him.
-There’s no way I’m fitting into those pants! Let me go!
-I’ve seen you squeezing your butt into the vent that one time when Kon threw the key to the coffee maker cabinet inside it. If you could get in there, these pants are a piece of cake.
-No!
-Don’t make me hurt you, Drake.
-Anita…!
-Ugh! -she stopped, dropping Tim on her bed and crossing her arms. She averted her eyes- My ex is gonna be at the party. I might have been exaggerating a bit when I said I was over him, but I already promised my friends I was gonna be there. I… could really use your help here. I know it’s not your scene, but Kon and Bart have midterms, Slobo would straight up punch my ex with his astounding lack of subtlety, Miguel is away dealing with family stuff, and the girls are awesome but not really what I need right now.
A pause.
-Okay, but I’m absolutely not putting on that crop top. And we better not end up wasted, I have a reputation to uphold.
Spoiler alert: he did put on the crop top. And they had to call Conner to walk them home after the third time Tim walked into a lamp post and Anita fell into the campus’ pond.
-.-.-.-.-
They were walking back home late on a Friday when they were approached by a group of stupid, drunk dudebros. Tim was already dreading the moments to come before they even spoke, just by the way they kept eyeing Cassie’s legs and Anita’s rack. Cissie herself was wearing loose pants and a sweater, so she was safe from their disgusting examination. Not that it kept her from crossing her arms and looking down at the assholes.
-Heyyyyy, ladies. Wanna go clubbing with us?
Tim shrugged- He’s talking to you, girls. I’m out. Have fun.
Cassie caught him by his hoodie before he could take a single step. He heard her warning clear as day and sighed, defeated.
-Yess, you can go -slurred Dudebro number two, waving him away- There’ three of us, and three of those pretty things. You can get lost.
-See, Cass? Hear the gentlemen. You don’t need me here.
Anita kicked him in the shin.
-No. We just got our nails done. You either solve this peacefully, or take care of it if it turns dirty. Why do you even walk us home if not to protect us from creepers like these?
A loud ‘hey’ came from the dudebros, but Tim ignored them. Silently, he pointed at Cassie’s legs (he had seen her crushing a watermelon between them once), Cissie’s arms (a thing of beauty that made multiple lesbians all around campus cry) and Anita’s katana (that she wasn’t supposed to keep on her person around other students, but who was gonna enforce any rules on the girl with the giant knife?).
-Excuse me? You three should be protecting me. I’m a rich, sheltered boy.
Apparently done being ignored, the three idiots decided this was a good time to throw the first punch. Which Tim dodged, without breaking eye contact with Cassie. She raised her eyebrow, not moving an inch. Cissie was examining her nails. Anita’s eyes promised hell.
He sighed, turned around, caught the second coming punch, and used the hand under his palm to force the dudebro to his knees. A knee to the face and then he turned to the other two.
Next time, Slobo was walking with them.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Flip side: the attic room had its own bathroom. Significantly smaller than the ones on the other two floors, but hey, no sharing.
The downside: apparently, the bathroom vents all connected with one another, and because of their aligning schedules, he often took showers at the same time Miguel did.
Flip side: Miguel had the singing voice of an angel, and the acoustic was fantastic. Showers were rarely boring now.
Downside again: Tim often forgot himself and sang along, but his voice… wasn’t as pretty.
Flip side again: at least, judging by Miguel’s smile, he found it adorable rather than pathetic.
Downside number three: Greta and Cissie’s room, by some unsolved mystery, also had connecting vents to the bathroom, and the archer girl was… less charitable about Tim’s inability to sing.
Flip side: Greta liked him better than most of their house mates, and she had more than enough dirt on Cissie to keep her from sharing the secret of Tim’s awful voice.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
-Hey, baby bird. Sorry I’m calling just now, it’s been a while.
-Hey Jay. Don’t worry, you’re busy grading papers.
-How do you know?
-Bart was crying in the tub this morning. Completely clothed and eating nachos with whipped cream, I might add.
-What is that boy even studying? I know he has Chem classes, Roy is his TA, and Kory saw him in the designer’s building.
-That is an unsolved mystery for the ages.
-Hey, speaking of your housemates, how’s it going?
Tim stopped on his way out of the kitchen, eyes growing fond as he examined the group on the living room. They were fighting over that night’s movie choice. He didn’t know why they tried, Greta was gonna win. Nobody could resist her and Miguel’s puppy eyes.
-It’s… it’s been great, actually.
-Uh huh.
-But don’t tell Dick. He’ll be unbearably smug.
-Of course I won’t. You still have that time I crashed B’s favorite car on me.
-Oh, Oh fuck! -came Slobo’s voice- TIM, BRING THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER!
A loud crash. Tim winced, eyes leaving his friend in favor of the wall. If he didn’t see it, it wasn’t happening.
-TIM, BUD, WE NEED SOME HELP HERE!
-...what was that, Timbo?
-Nothing.
-TIM, TIM, THE TV IS ON FIRE!!! COME QUICKLY BEFORE IT REACHES THE XBOX OR SO HELP ME GOD I’M MURDERING EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM!
-...Tim?
-Don’t tell B.
-Gotcha. Going to save their lives?
-More like hiding in my room until they sort themselves out or die. Good luck on those papers.
-Good luck on surviving.

For the grade

Y/N and Jaebum hate each other. What happens when they''re forced to work together for a school project?
You liked to life with as little negativity as possible. Sure, you had bad days, but you went through those knowing that it was simply a bad day and the next would likely be better. You really didn't have anything to complain about.Your friends were great, supportive people, your family as well. You had just one rainy cloud in your sunshine life. Lim Jaebum.
It's not like you wanted to hate Jaebum, you didn't. In fact, you really wanted to like him, you had tried to like him. He just made that near impossible. He was rude and cold. When you first met him, you wondered how someone you had just met could already hate you so much. You had met last year at your best friend Mark's end of the year party. Mark had moved into an off campus apartment and he and his roommate had decided to through the party this year. You got there early to help Mark set everything up. When you knocked on the door, Jaebum answered, scowl on his face. He merely grunted at your presence and moved aside to let you in. Throughout the night, he either acted upset at your being around or ignored you completely.
So here you were, beginning of your senior year of college, still dealing with Jaebum's shitty attitude. You had long since given up on trying to be civil and treated him as he treated you. You were supposed to meet up with Mark for coffee today, but he texted you this morning saying he felt ill. Being the good friend you were, and not trusting him to take care of himself, you decided to head to his apartment with medicine, soup and juice to take care of your best friend. The fact that Jaebum had classes all day today, made your decision that much easier. Mark had given you a spare key for emergencies, so once you arrived, you just went ahead and let yourself in.
Setting your supplies on the counter, you turned to the cabinet and grabbed a bowl and a glass. You set those on the counter, and turned back around to grab the soup. Reaching for the can, you looked up when you heard a voice. "How did you get in here?" Standing before you, stood a shirtless Jaebum. Without even meaning to, your eyes scanned down his chiseled form. You had never realized just how cut the man was. You hated to admit it, but he looked good. "You gonna stare all day or are you gonna give me an answer?" his voice snapped you out of your thoughts. "Mark gave me a key" you replied, voice laced with annoyance, "and for Pete's sake go put some clothes on." You turned around to continue your tasks, not noticing the smirk on Jaebum's face as he walked away.
When you finished heating the soup, you knocked in Mark's bedroom door, only to be met with some form of groan. Taking that as permission, you opened the door only to see a Mark size lump on the bed. Yanking the blanket off of his head, he let out another whine before turning to face you. "What the hell, Y/N?" Why are you here?" his voice was rough, either from sleep or sickness. You chuckled lightly before replying "Well, I know you and I knew you wouldn't take care of yourself so here I am." He gave you a small smile and you made him sit up so he could eat.
"I'm just saying that he didn't have to act like I broke in or something. Why is he even here, doesn't he have classes all day? And does he always walk around half naked? I mean-" your rant was interrupted by an obviously annoyed Mark. "Y/N, don't take this the wrong way but I'm sick and I really don't want to hear about the crush denial you have for JB." You actually reeled back as if you had been slapped. You? Crush? Jaebum? Absolutely not. No way. Not if he was the last man on Earth. Turning to Mark, you narrowed your eyes. "I do not have a crush on him." You were met with Mark's stupid smirk, the one he gets when he thinks he's right. "I mean it. I hate him." you continued only to still see that smirk. "Sure, Y/N. Whatever you say".
For the next week, you were at Mark and Jaebum's every day taking care of Mark. By the fourth day, you were pretty sure he was faking so you'd keep taking care of him, but you did it anyway. What are best friends for, right? On day five, Jaebum was home all day and that was an annoyance. The day was filled with snide comments and looks of dislike from the both of you. Mark had tried to get you two to at least be civil to no avail. He had even yelled once, something about both of your actions being a sham, but neither of you paid attention. You both just told him to hush and go lie back down. Finally, your time playing nurse was over and you could focus on yourself and your classes.
As a photography major, you took your classes very seriously. You had always had an eye for pictures. You could look at the most mundane things and immediately find a way to make them look beautiful through a lens. You knew all the right angles to turn any random thing into art. Being in a college where you could learn better ways to use those talents, was something you considered a great honor. You even shared a class with some film majors, which you were excited about. Getting to learn about video editing was going to be really neat. Until you got to said class and saw a familiar face. Lim Jaebum. Was there any escaping this man?
Ignoring the empty seat next to the smirking man, you walked to the other side of the room and found a seat there. Sure, you couldn't see the board very well and this particular area smelled odd, but you were far enough away from the thorn in your side that was Jaebum. Your professor introduced himself and began the class as you took as many notes as you could. As the lecture ended, he announced that the class would be divided into pairs and work through the semester on a project. You would receive your partner in an email. The project itself was up to the two of you. The only requirement was it had to be a 5 minute video about something you were both equally passionate about. You were slightly thrown off at being assigned a project on the first day, but excited.
You had been checking your email religiously for two days. You wanted to know who you were partnered with. The thought of getting to know someone new was nice, but you really wanted to start brainstorming on ideas. There was also a little nervousness. What if you and your partner had no common interests? How were you going to complete your project then? Mark had gotten tired of you staying planted by your computer, so he forced you out to get lunch with him. He even took your phone, which you thoroughly protested. "Staring at your screen isn't going to make the email come any faster, Y/N. Take a break and enjoy lunch with me." Realizing he was right, you let the project drift to the back of your mind and just enjoyed yourself.
A couple of hours later, you were returned to your home. You grabbed your laptop, thinking you'd check one more time before you set off to do something else for a while. Clicking your email tab, you noticed the notification for a new email in your inbox. You quickly clicked it, seeing it was indeed from your professor. Taking a breath and calming your nerves, you opened it. Your mind fluttered through so many thoughts before you read through the message. You still really hoped you and your partner had at least one thing in common, but you were determined to make it work regardless. You eyes scanned through the words to find your partner's name. Shit. Fuck. This was not good. There at the bottom was the name of your partner. Lim Jaebum. This was bad. Very, very bad.
Grabbing your phone, you immediately hit Mark's name and pressed the phone to your ear. After a few rings, Mark's voice comes through the speaker. You don't even let him finish his sentence before you launch into your rant. "Mark, this is bad. I just got my email and my partner is Jaebum. What am I supposed to do? We have nothing in common! We hate each other. We have months to work on this and we aren't going to be able to get anywhere I'm gonna fail." When you stopped to take a breath, Mark took the opportunity to start speaking. "You need to stop being so dramatic, Y/N. I'm positive you guys have something in common, you just have to stop being assholes to each other long enough to figure out what that is." As much as you HATED to admit it, he was right. This was an issue you would have to set aside for your grade. With a huff, you prepared your reply "Tell him to meet me at the campus cafe in 20 minutes." You hung up and sighed again. This was going to be a long semester.
You arrived at the cafe 10 minutes early. You just wanted to get the concept down, get a plan together and get out. You ordered a coffee, sat down and scrolled through your phone until a figure slid into the seat across from you. Expecting it to be Jaebum, you looked up with a scowl already on your face. Instead, you found a man you didn't know facing you. "Sup. I'm BamBam. You looked lonely over here all by yourself." Oh crap. This was the exact opposite of what you wanted. You politely thanked him for the thought, but you were waiting for someone. "Aw come on, baby, don't be like that." he started before a hand roughly on his shoulder. "You heard her, kid. Beat it." Looking up to see who your savior was, you were a bit shocked. Jaebum had never done a nice thing for you before, but there's a first for everything.
After your unwanted guest had left, Jaebum sat in the chair across from you. You were briefly distracted by the way his hair fell in his face in such a beautiful way, you wouldn't even have to mess with the angle that much to make a wonderful picture. You quickly shook your head to rid yourself of such ridiculous thoughts and cleared your throat to get Jaebum's attention. "Look, I know neither of us are happy with this arrangement, but I don't plan on getting a failing grade so we need to try to work around our dislike for each other. As of now, I know nothing about you or your interests, so why don't you tell me a little bit about what you like?" He sat there for a brief moment before sliding you a small piece of paper with a number written on it. He looked at you as his lips parted to speak, "I'll go along with whatever you want. Just call me when you decide" then he stood up and left. Yepp. This was going to be a real shitty semester.
As you walked back to your apartment, you pulled out your phone, dialing Mark's number. He answered with sass, as he always did. "If you called to bitch about JB, save your breath. I'm not listening to it." Of course, that had been what you were going to do, points to Mark on that one. You raced through topics to talk about as quickly as possible before settling on a way to find out Jaebum's interests. "Actually, he didn't give me much information, but I still want to try to make this work, so I called you. What are some of the things he's really passionate about?" You felt silly asking Mark this, but you needed to figure out how to incorporate both of your interests, pride be damned. Mark was silent for a while before you finally asked if he was still there. "Yeah. Thinking. He likes, uh, his cats?" You instantly frowned. Cats? Really? You loved cats but is that the best he could come up with? "Oh! And music! He's really into making music." Music, huh? That's something you could work with.
You hung up with Mark as you walked through your apartment door. You set your phone down and sat down at your laptop, pulled up a word document and began to type an outline for your project. Your plan as of now was to have a music video of sorts. Jaebum could use one of his songs as the music and the video could have some beautiful shots from your photographer's eye. You would each have something you were passionate about in the video. In your mind, it was perfect. Now, you just had to run it by Jaebum. Despite what he said at the cafe, a big part of you felt like he would shoot it down just because it was your idea. Making up your mind that sooner was better than later, you sent him a text explaining your idea. Almost immediately, your phoned dinged with a new message telling you to meet him back at the cafe in 10 minutes. Sighing at having to go right back out, you grabbed your keys and walked out of the door.
Opening the cafe door, you scanned the room, finding Jaebum already there. That was a bit surprising, but you made your way over and took a seat. Before you had even fully sat, he spoke in a harsh tone, "How do you know about my music?" Really? You had to come back to the cafe just to answer a question he could have asked you in a message? "I wanted to make something that had both of our passions in it, not just mine. So, I called Mark and the options he gave me were music and cats. I love cats, but I don't really want to make this video about just cats" you replied with an emotionless tone. He sat and thought about your words for a moment. "Ok, but if we do this, we're doing it my way. You get say, it's your grade too, but this is my music and I want it done right." You agreed that as long as your input was taken into consideration and it wasn't all about him, that this could work.
One week later, you were on your way to Mark and Jaebum's place to give input on song options for the video. You didn't really like the thought of being in their apartment without Mark, but you were excited about starting on the project. Knocking on the door, you felt a sudden urge to run, and you weren't sure why. It was just Jaebum. Sure, you didn't like the guy, but you had no reason to be nervous around him. You pushed the nervous feeling away just in time for him to open the door. He stepped aside to let you in, and gestured to the kitchen counter where there was a whole buffet's worth of food. "I asked Mark what you liked and he gave me a big list so I just got it all" he said rubbing the back of his neck as if he were nervous or embarrassed. You just stood there for a moment, a little shocked, before thanking him. Was Jaebum being nice to you?
You grabbed a small plate of food and the two of you ate in silence. It wasn't as awkward as you had thought it would be, it was actually strangely comfortable. When you were finished, Jaebum led you to the spare bedroom. Well, what you thought was the spare bedroom. Once he opened the door, you realized that he had a small studio set up there. He went straight to his laptop as you sat on the couch. He informed you he had two songs he was thinking of for the video. The first was a more upbeat song, the second being a slower, love type song. As you listened to the latter, you felt your heart ache in the most beautiful way. It was about love not being reciprocated, and your mind was already flooded with ideas. When it was finished, you gave him a sincere compliment on how amazing it was and told him that you would really like that to be the video song. He gave you the first genuine smile you had seen from him, and your heart fluttered.
You very quickly dismissed that flutter, no way you were gonna take that seriously. After some discussion, you agreed to meet at a nearby park the next day to do some location scoping. The leaves would be starting to fall soon and you had an idea for a shot and you wanted to find the perfect place for it. Saying a small, polite goodbye, he followed you to the door saying he'd see you the next day, and sending you off with some of the food he'd ordered. Mark called a few hours later, asking if you wanted to grab some coffee, which you readily agreed to. Making your way to your usual cafe, your mind wandered through all the ideas you had for the project.
"So, how'd it go?" were Mark's first words to you as you sat across from him. "You know, not that bad. We decided on a song and we're going to the park tomorrow to scout and see if it fits what I have in mind." you replied with a small smile. Mark's stupid smirk was prominent on his face as he raised one eyebrow. "You and JB? Getting along? It's almost like someone knew this wouldn't be so bad." You threw the paper from your straw at him, telling him to shut up. "I still don't like him, Mark. This is just for the project. It's important." The smirk didn't leave his face, but he didn't push you anymore on it. And you sure as hell didn't tell him about the heart flutter.
You met Jaebum at around noon the next day. It was a weekday, so the park wasn't overly crowded and the temperature was near perfect. You had your camera handy so you could check lighting and he had brought a tripod and video camera, just in case. Walking along the sidewalk, you came across a group of trees, leaves falling from them. You grabbed a quick picture before setting the strap back across your shoulder and walking to the middle of the trees. You just stood there for a few moments, leaves falling all around you and just looked up at the branches, admiring the beauty of nature. By the time you had turned back around, Jaebum had set the camera up, facing you. "Thought it would be a good idea to get the leaves falling" he spoke quietly, rubbing his neck again. You quickly moved out of the shot so he could get it the way he wanted. You pulled your camera out to snap a few more photos, then noticed Jaebum looking over your shoulder at the screen of your camera. "Those are really good" he half whispered before going back to his own camera.
After the day at the park, you both decided the park would be your primary location. The idea of mostly nature shots coupled with the slow song sounded very appealing to you, and Jaebum agreed. Things went surprisingly well for about a week. You had gotten multiple shots of the leaves, and a few of some children playing in the leaves. You had even convinced Jaebum to have a leaf throwing war with you. Today was a completely different story, though. You had gone to the park and gotten a few nature shots, but in the midst of shooting, it began to rain. You were immediately struck with a desire to get some shots of the downpour. Rain had always been beautiful to you. Jaebum did not agree, however. Sure, your cameras could both withstand some water, but he simply did not want to stay. This led to a slightly heated argument.
"Come on, this could make a really great shot if you'd just LISTEN" your voice slightly louder than normal. He had been very cooperative up until now, but this was something you were not willing to back down on. "Excuse me for not wanting to stand in the rain and get sick!" his voice louder than your own. "Fine, then go! I'll get the shots on my phone and you can deal with the crappy quality!" this time you were actually yelling. He threw his hands up, and walked away to gather his equipment. Not wanting to let him ruin your mood, you did a twirl in the rain, enjoying how the drops felt on your face, before turning around to get a better shot of the park at a distance. You found Jaebum still standing there, camera still on the tripod. "I thought you were leaving?" You spoke with an eyebrow quirked up. "I am. Had one more shot I wanted to get." And with that he packed up and left.
After the rainy day at the park, things were back to being strained between you and Jaebum. You were having more and more arguments, often forgetting to turn the camera off during, which led to more arguments about the amount of footage that would have to be sorted through. You wanted to shoot from this angle, Jaebum wanted to shoot from the opposite angle. It was like he went out of his way to disagree with any suggestions you had. You had been working on the project for over a month, half of which you had spent arguing. You had finally had enough. You were going to confront him about this. Picking up your phone, you typed out a message giving him your address and telling him to meet you there.
An hour later, he was at your door, camera in hand, thinking you had something you wanted to shoot. You invited him in, and he set up his camera to get it out of his hands and not just placed on your table. You gestured for him to sit on the couch, and you sat next to him. Steeling yourself, you finally set into what was on your mind. "What is your problem? We've done nothing but fight for weeks. I say something, you immediately disagree. We were getting along great there for a while, and now we're back to where we started. Speaking of, why do you hate me so much? I tried to be nice to you, I tried to be your friend. You weren't having it. What did I ever do to you, Jaebum? You were a jerk to me the first time I met you and I just don't understan-" you were suddenly cut off by his lips on yours. And even more suddenly, you were kissing him back.
He pulled back after a moment, just for you to pull him back in. He eagerly chased your lips once more. His tongue swiped at your bottom lip, and you opened your mouth for him. Before you realized, he was leaning you back on the couch. He pulled back again, slightly out of breath. "Tell me to stop, and I will." You replied by pulling him to you again and a small "don't " against his lips. He moved his mouth to your neck as his hand traveled down your body, stopping to squeeze your breast. You let out a small moan, encouraging him and you felt a smirk against your neck. His hand continued to trail down your body until he reached the bottom of your shirt. Pausing, he lifted his head to give you a questioning look. You gave a simple nod, and his hand slipped under the cloth and traveled back up.
He moved under your bra, as he squeezed again. He took your nipple between his thumb and forefinger, enticing another moan from you as he nibbled at your neck. As your arousal grew, you began to buck your hips, a silent plea for more. With a throaty chuckle, he whispered against your neck. "Patience, baby." With a whine, you picked up the pace of your hips, needing some kind of relief. At an excruciating speed, his hand began to slide down your body. As he reached the button of your jeans, he gave you another questioning look. "Are you sure?" His face was serious, wanting to make sure you were absolutely certain this was what you wanted. Breathless, you muttered out, "Please."
He let out a small growl at your neediness, as he undid the button of your jeans. Sliding his hand further down, he kept his eyes on your face. When he finally reached your dripping heat, he gave you a smirk. "So wet already." As he guided a finger through your folds, you let out a moan slightly longer than before. He kept up his teasing, simply running his finger through your wetness. His dark eyes still glued to your face, he teased your entrance, before slowly pushing inside of you. He kept his movements slow, wanting to tease. All at once, he picked up the pace as he added a finger. The sudden addition caused you to cry out in pleasure, earning another growl from Jaebum. His thumb rose to find your sensitive bud, staring in slow circles before picking up speed. Your release was building up fast and he picked up the pace once again. Just as the knot in your stomach unraveled, he learned down to whisper in your ear, "Just let go.I've got you." He gave you one last nibble before leaning up to see your face. His words were all you needed for the knot to completely break, causing a cry of his name.
Jaebum helped you ride out your high before planting a kiss to your forehead. He buttoned your jeans for you before getting up to get you a glass of water. He sat back down, and you could see the obvious bulge in his jeans. "What about you?" you managed to get out between gulps of water. He just laughed and shook his head. "Another time if that's something you want. I have some things to say first." You heart stopped briefly. Did he already regret this? All kinds of negative thoughts ran through your mind. As if he could sense your thoughts, he shook his head again.
"It's nothing bad, and I definitely don't regret anything that just happened. You asked me why I hated you. I have never hated you. I'm not good with people, I can come off cold and distant for a while before warming up. After a while, we just got into the routine of arguing and being distant with each other and I just didn't know how to go about changing that. I always wanted to, always wanted to be your friend. As for why things took a turn recently, we were becoming friends and I realized something, " he paused a moment as if to think, "I realized I didn't want to be your friend. I wanted more, but you still hated me so I went back to what I knew. I'm sorry for making you think I hated you." He finished his thoughts and looked away from you.
You sat there trying to process all of the information you were just given. Jaebum had feelings for you. That was not something you expected to hear. He hadn't hated you, but you sure hadn't liked him. When did that change? When did you go from not wanting to be in the same room as him, to laying on your couch with his hand down your pants? Thinking back, you tried to find the moment it changed. Was it the smile? Or maybe him ordering everything he knew you liked to eat? That may have been the start, but you realized the big moment. The leaf fight.
It had taken you quite a while to convince him, but when you finally had, he gave you that beautiful smile again. You took off running into a pile of leaves, him closely behind you. You picked up a handle full of leaves and tossed them directly in his face, letting out a loud laugh. His smile never left his face as he picked up and even bigger handful and retaliated. You spent an hour together just throwing leaves. That was the moment. That was when everything changed.
Realizing you had been in thought for a while, you reached over and grabbed Jaebum's hand. "I'm not going to tell you that I didn't dislike you. I did. I thought you were an ass. But, I no longer feel that way. You can still be an ass, but it isn't all the time. Things changed for me, too. Even through all the arguing we've done lately, I didn't want to argue. I didn't want to go back to how we were. I wanted to move past that. So, " you took a deep breath, "Let's see where things go, yeah?"
Two months later, and it was time to turn in your project. Jaebum had done all the editing and he hadn't let you see it yet. The night before you were set to turn it in, he asked you to come by his apartment to see the final product. You knocked on the door and Mark answered. "Y/N! Are you here to see me today or are you here to see your b-" you cut him off with a shove. "Move, I get to see the video today." He laughed as you shoved by him and made your way to Jeabum's studio. You gave a slight knock before letting yourself in.
He was sitting at his laptop with his headphones on, taking them off when he noticed your presence. You sat in the chair beside him, practically bouncing. He let out a chuckle and turned to his computer, and handed you the headphones. Putting them on as he pressed play, you focused on the screen. You were expecting the familiar melody of his song, but were met with your voice instead. "Come on, this could make a really great shot if you'd just LISTEN" on the screen was a clip of you and Jaebum. It was the rainy day in the park where you argued about shooting in the rain. Confusion washed over you, why was he showing you outtakes of your fight? That clip was followed by more clips of the two of you fighting. After a moment, the music started. The screen was filled with clips you had never seen before. You staring at the leaves, you twirling in the rain, the leaf fight, all things you didn't realize had been captured.
The video played through more clips of you and Jaebum between shots. The music stopped and your voice played again, "Why do you hate me so much?" you winced at the words, not wanting to remember them. The screen transitioned to you and Jaebum on your couch as he grabbed your face and kissed you. As your voice faded out, Jaebum's replaced it. "Passion is different for every person. For most, it is taken as something they enjoy. For me, passion started as an argument, only to grow into something amazing. See, love and hate are two sides of the same coin. A very passionate coin, for you cannot have love or hate without passion." With that, the screen faded to black.
You sat there for a few beats looking at the blank screen. Jaebum carefully lifted the headphones from your head and wiped the tears you hadn't realized had begun to fall. "You hate it. Don't worry I made the original plan, we can still submit that." He moved to exit out of the video, and you grabbed his hand to stop him. "I don't hate it. It was just beautiful and I wasn't expecting it. He wiped more tears as they fell. "Do you want to see the other one?" You shook your head and pulled him in for a kiss. "No. This one is perfect." He gave you a deep kiss before barely pulling back. "I love you" he whispered against your lips. Smiling wide, you replied "I love you too, Lim Jaebum."

I got your letter today. I came home from work and I was in shock. I honestly still am. It’s a Saturday and mail doesn’t get delivered or picked up on Sundays so I have to wait till Monday night to put it in the mail boxes. The letter I wrote you was kinda shit. I think these emails explain things way better. They’re daily and I can go more into depth with what I’m feeling and what’s going on without my crippling ADHD bouncing off the fucking wall. Your hand writing is shit by the way. Are you in second grade? My nephew has better handwriting than you. I think about us too. I honestly don’t know anymore. If we did date, I would want to know for a fact you changed, but there’s no way for me to know that for sure. You promise me in august that you wouldn’t get in trouble and by October you where in shuman. I don’t think you understand how bad that hurt. Vince, I cried for a week straight. You know how hard it is for me to cry. I don’t even get upset. 2018 was a hard year for me. 2018 literally tried to kill me but I’m still here bitch gang gang. I don’t ever want to go through the shit I went through again that year. It was heartbreak after heartbreak. I don’t know if I cried hard harder in may or when you left. Both months where really hard once. Anyways, lets say we do date. How do I know that when you make me a teen mom, something isn’t gonna happen. Like I know we joke and talk seriously about having kids, but lets say we do end up together and we have a kid. I don’t want to put the kid through that. There is no way I’m letting my child grow up fatherless. You did too, you know how much it hurts. That child grows up not knowing a strong mother/father figure. That child has to deal with all the stress their parent is under too. That child grows up wondering how someone else can love them, when the people who are supposed to don’t. Lets say we don’t end up dating. Do I still be friends with you? My mom used to have a friend who, like you, was in and out of jail. She stopped being friends with him because one she didn’t ant him to do something to me and two she didn’t want to be guilty by association. I don’t want to be guilty by association either. I trust that you would never put me in a situation like that because I know you care about me and don’t want to see me hurt, but if you didn’t want to see me hurt you would never have let yourself et in trouble in the first place. I’m gonna say what my dance teacher said though. One of these days something might happen and I won’t be able to stop you. It scares me thinking that I can’t always keep you and my other favorite people safe. I just want to keep all my little ducklings in a row and shield them from everything bad. I can’t do that though. You’re gonna be gone for at least another year. Lets say I don’t wait it out. I would feel bad about it. You said you might be able to have home visits and I want to spend those with you, but I know you would be upset about me moving on. Honestly I don’t think I’m meant to end up with anyone. I know I’m young but you know I have a sixth sense for things. I just know things before they happen and they’re right. I don’t know how I know them, I just do. I know on some level I’m just meant to be alone. I don’t ant to be, but I don’t think there’s anyone out there for me. Ya I have met a few people and thought hey maybe this is it, but I’m also not even 16 yet and things just don’t look that way now. I don’t know. I’m glad you’re on medication though. Part of me thinks it’s more than anxiety. I also can’t believe you might come home middle of you’re sophomore year. I thought you would at least be back before school starts. There’s no telling what will happen by then. To be honest I think by then I will have moved on. I also don’t see it at the same time. I honestly just give up on everything. Life is so good right now, but at the same time shit is so fucked up. There’s a million and one things I wish I would have done differently.I quit my job today. I don’t 100% know how I feel about it. I know it caused me a lot of stress and I would have panic attacks all day. I won’t even there for 30 minutes and got corrected 6 different times by 5 different people. I think that’s a new recored. It said leaving you’re first job let me tell you. I was crying with the hiring manager for 10 minutes before I left. I don’t know why they where so upset, they made it clear they don’t like me. As does everyone else. Waverly told me I’ve been pushing everyone away lately. Can you blame me though? No one cares about me and they make it so obvious. I tell them what’s wrong and they either take the other persons side, make it obvious they don’t care or don’t even try. That’s why I don’t talk to anyone anymore. I wish I could just shut everyone out and start everything over. But then I remember certain things and I start smiling and laugh, sometimes crying because the memory was when times where good and I realize how much I’d miss certain people. I cry a lot more than I’ll admit to. I don’t know what you’re mom thought about my message she never replied to me. I do want to know what she thinks but I also don’t give two fucks. I honestly don’t know how you got me to even apologize. You people convince me to do the dumbest things. Like shave my legs and wear shorts in 25 degree weather. Wasn’t the first time and definitely not gonna be the last. A hoe never gets cold. I’m happy I might get a chance to see you though. Haven’t seen you since November 18th. I’m gonna tell you the same thing here that I did on you’re hand written letter. I don’t care what you say we’re watching friends. I got told today I’m way too obsessed with friends. I guess just have a strong relation to some of the characters and what they go through and long for a strong friendship like theirs. I know it’s a tv show and so of course everything I gonna be perfect, but one can hope. Hope is for suckers though. I wish I could remember that more often. You hope for things you get hurt. I don’t talk to Ali and Trent anymore, I can’t stand anyone in that group. I don’t talk to anyone anymore really. Everyone gets on my fucking nerves. There’s not even a handful of people I care about anymore. Don’t worry eventually I’m gonna get it down to no one ahah. I used to be so nice, what happened to me? You’re whole grade is terrified of me. I did find out today I actually am freakishly strong at least a little bit. Mike took me driving today and long story short we ended up playing footsies and I like broke his hip. I felt so bad, but it was kinda funny. I’ve been told I’m a little beast by hunter. I remember I started going to the gym because I wanted to look skinnier, now I just want to look like I could kick your ass. I honestly need to chill with how mean I am though it’s gotten so bad. But speaking of Mike, he’s scared you might hurt him or like try to kill him. He knows you don’t like him. I know I’ve said it before but I’m gonna say it again. Don’t you fucking dare start anything with him. He means a lot to me and you do to you. So don’t you dare put me in any type of situation between you two. I’m telling you now it won’t end pretty. Anyways, don’t worry I’ll proof read Lilly’s letter. I wish I could send you memes though. My meme game is fire. BUZZ LOOK AN ALIEN! I think I need to still send you that video.it’s my favorite video. I’ve actually. escalated my picking on people into memes, and let me tell you, once I’m making a meme it’s game fucking over. I destroy people. I was told it’s funny when I make fun of people though. I think they think I’m joking though but I’m not. I say things like it’s a joke but 99% of the time I’m being looked serious. I wanted to get those touch bracelets for your birthday. They where $88 dollars though. Not that I had a problem with that just one big dawn would have spread my ass cheeks and two all the what if from before pop into my head. Maybe when you come home. I would send you hoodies on amazon but like I said, my cheeks will be spread like butter. Plus let’s be honest. I’m gonna steal them anyways. Don’t worry though I won’t cut them this time. It think I’m gonna cut all the hoods off my hoodies. Well not all. I need something to put me into my final cancerous egg form. There’s an egg on Instagram by the way that has more like than Kylie jenner’s baby picture. I’ll try to write and send you weekly letters though. I’ll still write these daily ones. I hope you can come home early and I don’t just mean a home visit. I miss you. I hope you mean it when you say you’re being good and I hope you stay that way. Get you’re shit together before I beat you up. I miss us wrestling. You’re like the sibling I never had. The ones that just randomly pick you up and world star you to the fucking ground. I’d be lying though if said I didn’t start it. I’m such an asshole. Anyways, I’m hungry. I’m gonna wash my face, eat and go bully the autistic kid. Be good and stay good stupid. Good night, sleep tight, and don’t let the bed bugs bite. I love and miss you, Your tadpole

Assholes Unite
Qhuinn: [After I sent Dehv the text, I let myself into the cabin. I began to peel off my clothes on the way to the bathroom dropping them as I went with the intention of cleaning up when I was done. Sure, I didn’t know when he’d get back to me and I had just showered before my meeting, but I needed to do something to keep myself busy. My mind was a million miles a minute and well, there was no such thing as being too clean. Especially when I was so used to being covered in blood, sweat, and grime constantly. And considering how our last few meetings had started, maybe this time I could make a decent enough first impression. I snorted to myself and rolled my eyes at my own stupidity. It was far too late for that. He likely already had a oh so very lovely impression of me. I turned on the water and stepped under the scaling spray to wash my nerves away. I mean, obviously he was okay with my presence or he’d not have agreed to meet up again so I could prove to him another world existed. Unless he was just doing it to get a laugh, but even still…it gave me an excuse to be near him. Maybe I’d grow on him…..like a fucking barnacle the way my luck usually ran. I tried to push him from my mind because I couldn’t function properly with all the stupid thoughts in my head and grabbed the soap to start scrubbing away at my skin. I focused on the task of making soap turn to bubbles and skin turn to red, appreciating the varying colors since I was still getting used to that shit when I heard my phone go off. I nearly tripped over the lip of the tub as I lept out, skidding on the tile and bouncing off the walls as I scrambled to the phone. I was a grade a fucking idiot, but at least I could admit it to myself as I lunged for my jeans and my buzzing phone. I finally unraveled it form the clothing and grumbled when I saw that instead of the message I wanted, it was a message from Wraith, ‘Got some news, stop by when you can ~ W’. I furrowed my brows as I pushed back to my feet and dripped my way to the bathroom to dry off. With Wraith that news could be any number of things, but I hoped it meant he found something of use about one of the two things I actually had him looking into for me. The news of the male who caused my death or news of who was behind Dehv’s attacks. I knew if it was the former, Wraith would be right by my side on that one. Well, I suppose if Dehv blew me off, I could still make a productive evening out of it at least. Toweling off, I walked to my room and tugged on another pair of black buttonfly’s, a black tee, a pair of black socks and my boots. I had just grabbed my jacket from the closet when my phone started to go off again. Fucking patience, Wraith, damn. I rolled my eyes and walked back to the pile of clothes. Picking them all up before I grabbed my phone, a grin forming on my face as I saw who the messages was from]
Dehv: ~ I kept up smiling as I listened to Dr Holt continue to tell me what he was looking for, while also explain what he really didn’t want. I already had a few ideas, but the more he talked, the more I realised that perhaps we were not anywhere close to thinking on the same lines. The current place he lived in seemed like it hadn’t been updated since it was built. Which was probably longer than even I’d been alive. Not that I could say that, as I still looked a good 30 years younger than the male on the other side of the video chat. I made notes to look like I was taking on board everything, filtering through what he was saying so I could put down what I knew was a complete no go area, and what things I might be able to tweak and show him how good it could look. He was a hard person to please. I’d done up his office years ago, and he’d apparently forgotten all the things I’d spoken to him about at the time. I felt my eyes glance at the clock a couple of times though the hour. But thankfully I got enough information to keep throwing down something to send him, “Ok, Sir. I’ll get some ideas and samples put together so I can send them through to you. And we’ll catch up again next week. I’ll send you an email covering what we’ve spoken about and agreed upon with times for you to choose for our next meeting. You know the drill, it’s not the first time we’ve done this. Enjoy your evening.” I smiled as widely as I could to a human and clicked off the camera. I exhaled slowly and then reached for my phone. It had been on silent while I was in the meeting, but I had seen it light up while I was talking. I clicked through the notifications but instantly stopped when I saw the message from Qhuinn. I smiled at his wording and then found myself snorting. How to reply to that? I tapped on the bottom of the message and quickly typed out a response, “Hey, I do have time. Just finished with a client. I’ll demat over to the park where I met you before. Least we both know where that is. I’ve got a few notes to write up and then I’ll leave. Should be about half an hour. D.” I read the message over two or three times before pressing send and quickly placing the phone face down so I don’t check it again. Getting the notes I’d scribbled written in something a little more legable before I pushed away from my desk. I clicked shut the laptop and then stuffed my phone in my pocket. Figuring what I was wearing was more than fine, but I wanted to grab another layer, it wasn’t exactly warm out there, and I had no idea what Qhuinn had planned for us. If it was a lot of standing around and watching, I was not about to ruin that by freezing my ass off. Though it did then give me an excuse to tell him he was taking me for a coffee to warm back up again. I found myself grinning as I made my way upstairs to grab another jumper, checking everything was locked up and the alarm set before I did. Once I was happy I wasn’t going to burn the place down while I was away, I took a slow breath and sent my molecules towards the park, knowing I could easily hide among all the trees with it being as dark as it was. ~
Qhuinn: [I shot a text back to Dehv to tell him I would meet him there and grinned like an idiot as I tucked my phone in my pocket. Who knew that park would become our regular meeting place. I mean, three times now, that made it regular, right? Even if one was by total accident and the other was a safe middle ground after he broke my nose and I bloodied him up. This time, I could only hope neither of us would be shedding any blood. Wrath would likely have my ass nailed to a spike if I got one of his trainees killed. I stopped and snorts, my trainee too now. Hopefully he’d be mine in more than one way if I had anything to do with it. I made quick work of the pile of clothes, tossing them in the hamper and then giving the place a quick once over. Not that I was planning on company or anything, but it couldn’t hurt to be prepared, plus, I was getting over that whole slob phase of mine. After that was all done, I checked the time and burned all of two minutes and figured that was long enough, dammit. I walked out and locked the door behind me, walking about half a block just to calm my nerves before I sent my molecules to the park. I materialized on the opposite side we normally met at and glanced around to try to see if I had beat him or not. When I thought I saw movement near the tree line, my smile grew as I started in that direction. I made it about ten steps before my phone went off again and I let out a low growl as I paused and pulled it from my pocket. I shot a quick text back to Wraith and told him I’d be by shortly. I guess our first stop had been decided for me. Besides, the hospital would be a nice, easy way to ease him into the world I was trying to show him. Now if the stars aligned, the trip below would be productive too, though I should know better than to even tempt the fates with that on. I tucked the phone back away and continued my way across the park. I was not going to let the prospect of the information waiting or anything else distract me from my goals. As I got closer to the tree line, I could almost feel eyes watching me. Even though my hand fell to the ever present handle at my side, I wasn’t worried. I tipped my head and grinned wide] Dehv, you here or am I talking to the trees like a lunatic? Not that it would be the first time.
Dehv: ~ I appeared behind a huge crop of trees and gave the place a quick look around to ensure no one had seen me. As expected the place was deserted now it was dark, and the place held an eerie feel still. The lights filtering through the edges of the park on two sides where there were houses and street lights. The rest was dark, I’d imagine it would be pitch black to anyone who wasn’t blessed with supernaturally good eyesight. I gave the place one more sweep before moving a little closer to the park. I smiled when I saw that Qhuinn had already made it to the park and was probably waiting for me. I leaned my shoulder against a tree, ensuring that I wasn’t obvious, while still being able to see. My gut told me I could trust the male, and I really wanted to. Something drew me to him, but I couldn’t figure out what. It was something I wasn’t used to feeling around people. Though my gut was rarely wrong, I had very few people around me who I could say that I trusted entirely. In some cases because they were human and weren’t allowed to know any more about me than the normal day to day things. In other cases because I didn’t know them well enough. Frankie was my closest friend and I’d picked up other along the way. But none I saw regularly. Humans had become my constant, which had been interesting over the years as I’d tried to change identity through various creative methods. I watched as Qhuinn approached, certain he was alone from the way he was checking out the crowded bunch of trees I was currently hiding in. I knew he’d seen me demat in, since I’d probably stuck out if you were looking specifically for me. I didn’t keep him waiting when he spoke, instead grinning and stepping through a few of the denser trunks until I could look the male in the eye, “I should have left you talking a little longer. Seen what happened if you thought you were talking to the trees. Hippy.” I winked and then moved clear of the small wooded area and scanned the open expanse of field. “So, you’ve got me here. I’m armed, lightly trained and curious beyond belief. You’ve already given my brain far more to think about than I ever wanted. What with me meeting you when you were a hell of a lot more curvy than you are now. Though I have a feeling, you’re still as deadly. Tell me what I’m doing here and what you want from me so I’m prepared in advance in case I have to actually use some of that training I’ve worked hard to improve at.” I tipped my head back to the male and met his gaze, fingers running through my hair as I showed my nerves. While I wasn’t scared to fight, I wasn’t sure what I was going to come up against. I knew Qhuinn could hold his own, I just hoped I could hold mine too. I did not want to get either one of us injured because I did something stupid. ~
Qhuinn: [My grin widened as I saw the movement in the trees before he came into view. That grin he wore settled the slight knot of apprehension that had been bubbling in my stomach. Not that I expected him to bail…ok, maybe a little, but I had a feeling if he said he would show up somewhere, he actually would do just that. I snorted out a laugh and shrugged a shoulder] You caught me, I’m all kinds of peace and love and all that other shit.
[I winked right back as I moved to stand in front of the male who captured a good portion of my attention. Groaning as he brought up the curves I’d had when we first met, I wrinkled my nose and shook my head] Can we just forget about that whole curve factor? It certainly wasn’t my best look, even if I did kick ass in that form as much as I do in this one. I’m glad you came armed though, not that I’m expecting trouble. It just happens to find me more often than not. Besides, I’m fairly certain Wrath would kill me if I managed to get one of our trainees fucked up before I even started working.
[I still couldn’t believe Wrath had agreed to the proposition. Taking Dehv tonight would hopefully give a little credibility to what I’d told him, not that that was the reason I wanted Dehv to be here. Nope, I wanted him to know what was out there, I wanted to try to help him if I could at the same time though.I wished I could sooth the nerves that caused him to run his fingers through that hair…hair I sure as hell wouldn’t mind running my ….I coughed and averted my gaze as I tried to get back onto track. ] Initially, I was going to start with taking you down below, but I need to hit the hospital first. Wraith, well, you’ll meet him, he’s got some information I asked him to find. You’ll meet some demons, including the three who run the place, and then if you want more, we can keep going. Anytime you wanna bail, just say the word. You can’t demat in the hospital or in the wards around it, just like you can’t demat in and out of hell, so we’ll take the gate to both places.
[I watched him carefully to see if he was still on board or if he thought this whole thing was a joke. I tipped my head to the gate we’d used before and waited. I hoped he’d say yes. I didn’t think he’d say no. He was curious. He was an intellectual, something I wasn’t, but I understood curiosity and what I promised fit under curious and more.]:
Dehv: ~ I looked between the male and the…….portal or whatever it was called. I’d seen it in action, and I was more than happy to go in there again. I trusted the male beside me, even if it was some kind of freaky shit he was leading me into. I found I blurted out random things rather than seeming to marry them up with a logical thought process “Our trainees? You’re helping out with that programme now? Demons and one is called Wraith? Which is kind of like Wrath, though I have a feeling they’re nothing alike. Ok. I can do this. It’s not like I’m human and having to come to terms with the weird and whatever. To them, I’m like a demon is to me. Magic shit, less ok with. Harry Potter should probably stay as fairytales. Probably. Ok.” I nodded, basically convincing myself rather than the male still patiently waiting by my side. I didn’t really have many questions, I mean, what was I going to ask? Hospitals were needed for all kinds of things, the fact I couldn’t demat would have worried me, had it seemed to bother Qhuinn. However, he seemed perfectly at ease with that, and it had to mean that it was mostly a good thing. I’d have to properly watch how he worked the gates so I could actually get out if I needed to, even if he couldn’t for some reason, I needed to know I was able to. I turned fully to face Qhuinn and lifted my gaze to meet his, “Will you teach me the gates first? Make sure I can use them and understand them on my own. I know you’ll be with me every step of the way, but should one of these brothers need to keep you for some reason…….” I shrugged a shoulder and then smiled as I dropped my gaze. I figured he’d get it, or at least understand my want and need to have some kind of control over my own movements. I could fight, not as well as him, but I was still able to hold my own. So I knew that was fine, and I could demat anywhere you wanted me to, I’d been properly practicing, and not just the shorter distances to places I knew. But I didn’t have that advantage it would seem once I stepped through that shimmering gateway, and that left me feeling more on edge that I wanted. I smiled anyway and then tipped my head towards the gate, “If that’s ok with you, I’m game to learn and meet anyone you want me to. I’m pretty good with people, I think. So anything I should know going in, what not to say or whatever, give me the heads up and I’ll try to remember it all.” With another nod I started towards the gate. Assuming Qhuinn would fall in line behind me. Not sure if I had to wait for it to come to us or not, I slowed to an almost standstill a few inches from the disturbance that it would seem only those who weren’t human could see. ~
Qhuinn: [I flashed a sheepish grin at the male. It wasn’t that it was a big secret, Wrath never told me that I couldn’t say anything to any one. Besides it was going to get out soon enough and it felt right that Dehv was the first one I told. I gave a slight nod] Yeah, that’s what my meeting with Wrath was about. I’m gonna be helping out with training and on patrol. Wraith is more like us than some of them. He’s part vampire which is like really rare for them. Caused him a shit ton of problems too, but he’s cool.
[I grinned wider as his nervousness showed in the way he was trying to reason out this whole thing. It definitely made me feel better. It showed that even though it was stranger than all hell, he trusted me enough to believe things were possible. I knew the issue of not being able to dematerialize might raise his nerves. It had me at first too. I smiled when Dehv came to stand in front of me so our goes locked] The hospital is protected, making it unappealing to humans and shit so there’s a huge ward around it. Inside they have a spell that keeps violence to nonexistent levels, unless someone really wants to feel like their head is splitting open. But they keep it so you can’t just materialize on the grounds to protect everyone. Once you get about fifty feet or so past the entrance, then the ward ends and you can dematerialize again. I’ll show you how to work the gate though, it’ll be good for you to know how to use it for whatever reason. If you’re ready?
[I picked up my pace to walk along side Dehv, watching the shimmer grow brighter as we approached. Now that I knew what to look for I could spot them everywhere and it always amazed me how others just walked right past them, sometimes sidestepping as though they knew something unnatural was there.] The staff at the hospital are great, I think you’ll have no issues with them as long as you don’t attack or anything like that.
[I stepped into the gate with purpose and held out my hand to Dehv, guiding him inside with me. I was slower this time as I showed him how to zoom in and out of the map, pointing to Caldwell and the gate we were in, the landmarks and the particular glyph to look for, then as I moved it around to the hospital we were going to. When the gate opened, I pulled him with me out to the parking lot of UGH, facing the emergency entrance.]
Dehv:~ I walked into the space after I was sure it was safe. Qhuinn wouldn’t have gone in there had there been a problem. It amused me that although this appeared to be nothing more than a lift to and from places, you didn’t have to wait on one arriving. It was just there. I focused on what he was saying, edging in close to watch the various maps and symbols elluminate and change. The maps were zoomed in on, places tapped and various places marked for the male to tap as he got closer to where he wanted to go. I was glad that I’d paid attention this time, as I was pretty sure I’d have never picked this up had he gone at normal pace. Thankfully Qhuinn had pressed each button with purpose, but also explained what he was doing as he did each thing. It wasn’t until I stepped out of the gate that I was able to speak without feeling like I might lose what I’d learnt. Not that I wanted to speak once I saw the place looming in front of me. It looked pretty much like a bog standard hospital, or at least a human one. Ours looked less like that, as we were more likely to run behind the scenes. But being in a place humans couldn’t see, that made building a structure like this, with the ability to park the emergency vehicles close by without issue, easy. I still looked around gawking at the place. I could see some of the demons that were using the place as they moved in and out of the sliding doors. I had to blink a few times, unconsciously moving a little closer to Qhuinn to gage his reaction. It was apparently nothing I needed to worry about, since he was as relaxed as he’d been when we’d stepped out the gate. I was used to humans, lessers and vampires. The Omega had been all kinds of fucked up looking, but then, I’d expected that, and never really thought I’d SEE him. Despite fighting towards trying to ensure he was no more. But this, there was all kinds of different things moving around, conversing in languages I’d never heard. And as much as they fascinated me, they also confused the shit out of me. I tipped my head slightly and whispered to Qhuinn, “These are all demons? Every single one of them?” I blinked and then started forward, moving slowly to ensure Qhuinn would stay at my side. I didn’t make eye contact with anyone, merely taking in everything as I’d been trained to do. My journey taking me to the sliding doors and inside. Shocked, despite the knowledge it was a fully functioning hospital, to see all kinds of demons and others running around, barking orders and trying to save lives or diagnose the injured. It wasn’t a place I felt comfortable, having always hated these kind of places. But I understood their importance, and really wanted to know more about this world. “Ok, show me more.” ~
Qhuinn: [Yeah, I couldn’t stop my dumb ass from grinning as Dehv stepped closer, even if it was just because of what he was seeing. That had to mean he at least trusted me enough to keep him safe here and that was fucking awesome. I glanced around the lot at the various species and shook my head as I gave a wave to a few that recognized me] Not all. That dude that was by the ambulance. That’s Con. He’s a dhampire. Part vamp, part wolf. The guy walking towards us in the all black uni, that’s Shade, he’s one of the brothers who run the place, also part wolf thanks to his mate. That chick wandering around with the light, that’s Idess, daughter of Azagoth, part angel..no wait, former angel? I can’t remember. Anyway, you’ll see a few different types wandering the halls. Few shifters and such too. But they can’t hurt you, not without getting taken down by the protective spell the brothers put in place.
[I flashed a grin as Shade came over and gave me a hug, “Good to have you back, Brother. Wraith said you’d be stopping by. This the guy?” He flashed a smile at Dehv. “I’m Shade, you the guy who broke my brother’s nose?” I groaned and muttered under my breath that I was going to kill Wraith before I cleared my throat] Dehv, meet Shade…he’s on his way to anywhere but here, right Shade?
[He started to say more but Con shouted out for him to get his ass moving because they had a call. He let out a low laugh and grinned wide, “Fine, I’ll leave it to Runa to get the details when you come for family dinner now that you’re back to you. Nice to meet you, Dehv.” He looked at his watch, “Wraith should be in the cafeteria, Serena’s suppose to be bringing Stewie in for his checkup in a bit” I groaned and nodded before uttering a thanks to the demon.] Chat ya later man, I’ll call you later, I’m sure the dinner will be interesting.
[With that, I found myself grabbing for Dehv’s hand before I caught myself, but damned if Shade didn’t miss it. His eyes darted down and he grinned wide before turning and waving a middle finger over his shoulder at me as he ran quickly to the ambulance, not leaving much room for any sort of talking.. I shook my head and turned to Dehv with an apologetic look.] Sorry, I should have warned you it wasn’t really demons you needed to be worried about, just the idiots in charge. They…when I was booted from the manse, they kinda took me under their wings so to speak. Just ignore most of what any of them tell you….please!
[ Once we were alone, I led Dehv passed the main entrance as quickly as I could, I was hopeful we could make it to the cafeteria with out too many problems. The waiting room was filled with usual suspects, grouchy demons and growly were glaring at each other when they weren’t grumbling at the nursing staff who studiously ignored it all while they took care of admitting the most necessary patients first, which would keep them busy and better still, keep them from noticing us.]
Dehv: ~ I continued to look around the place, expecting to be lead to another area of the hospital when Qhuinn’s attention was pulled to a male. I tipped my head in greeting and looked to Qhuinn for some understanding of whether this was a friend or not. The smile on his face and the way he seemed relaxed, or as relaxed as he ever appeared to be, gave me the answer I needed. The hug confirmed that, and I found myself relaxing a fraction, until the male spoke. Shade. The name made me smile, though it’s not like I had room to comment with the name I’d been given. I couldn’t help the huge smile as I held out my hand to shake his, nodding without remorse at the memory of breaking Qhuinn’s nose. “He deserved it. Who sneaks up on someone when they’re mid way through a run?” I shrugged a shoulder, though I was still grinning at the male. I continued to listen to the exchange between the males, allowing my attention to then move away to others so they could finish up their conversation in some kind of private state. Not that it really was. The demons that Qhuinn had pointed out on the way in were starting to move between the carpark and the main entrance. Some I’d never have known were anything but human, or perhaps vampire. But there were some, they were obviously not creatures that could be out in the human world. Perhaps on halloween if they were to pretend they were trick or treating. But otherwise they really were proof that we were outside of reality. As if the glowing lift hadn’t been enough of a give away. It was mind blowing to think that Wrath knew of this, or at least knew of its existence, even if he wasn’t aware of the extent. As soon as Shade disappeared, I turned my attention back to Qhuinn, blinking slowly as I tried to take everything in. The gentle please had me laughing, and I nodded, “I can ignore whatever they happen to tell me about you. Or, pretend I’m not listening to use at a later date to bribe you with.” I winked and then moved along with Qhuinn, my attention bouncing like a ping pong ball between each room we passed. I kept up with the male happily, stepping in closer than was strictly necessary more than once. I told myself it was because I was uncertain as to what might come at us while we were here. A protection spell would only keep so much at bay, surely? The place got slightly less frantic as we moved through the halls. Calming and moving into routine rather than urgent. It wasn’t like human hospitals, or even the odd vamp hospital I’d been in. While there’d been a lot of screaming demons in the main entrance, the further we wound into the place, the more those here wanted to be here. Or at least they could see a benefit. Which was nice. Once we’d made it into the canteen, I reached for Qhuinn’s hand and pulled him to a stop, waiting until he was facing me before speaking, “So that was Shade, he looked out for you. And we’re here to see, another owner. His brother? You mentioned his name. I’m sorry, it’s a lot to take in. Where will he be? And should I be expecting a fight after I broke your nose?” I asked seriously, though I was sure I could hold my own, it was far better to be prepared than to go in and get blind sided. ~
Qhuinn: [I huffed at Dehv’s quick response to Shade. He was right and it wasn’t the first time I’d snuck up on someone and got a fist to the face over it. What I realized though was how he’d fit right in with the brothers and their good natured ribbing. That thought both thrilled and freaked me out all at once. Now to just get him to see me as more than a glorified tour guide in the world of weird. My grin widened as Dehv walked close to me, I liked feeling his heat alongside me and just feeling him close. It did that stupid thing to my insides that made me happy. Dammit. I laughed and shook my head] You’ll find out likely won’t have to bribe me for much, Dehv.
[I shrugged a shoulder and grinned. It was true and I knew it too. I’d likely do just about anything if he needed or wanted me to. I nodded and waved to a few of the nurses and doctors as we passed, but they were busy which meant they didn’t stop to chat, which was perfect. I didn’t want Dehv to have to endure any of the stories they’d be oh so willing to share. Or have them making sure I was taking care of myself. When he took my hand, I turned to face him with slightly wider eyes than I intended. My brows pinched until I realized he needed a little reassurance that he was indeed safe. I kept his hand in mine and brushed my thumb along his as my smile came easily] The three who run the place are Shade, who you just met, Wraith, who we will meet next, and Eidolon who I’d like to avoid seeing tonight if possible. Shade and Wraith might give you shit for breaking my nose but that’s about it. E…well, he’s more serious than the others and if anything he’d likely say I deserved it and then make me get another damn exam since he’s still worried about me after everything.
[I shook my head and laughed soft at his concern of a fight.] No one can hurt you in these walls, at all. If they try, they’ll be on their ass in horrible pain. But even without that, none of the brothers would try to fight you over that. I peeked in the cafeteria and nodded to the blond behemoth with his back to us and headphones covering his ears.] That’s Wraith. He’s got some information for me that I’m hoping will help me take care of some outstanding business. I promise, you’ll be safe.
[I kept his hand in mine as I led him to the cafeteria. As we got closer, I saw Wraith’s shoulders shift so I knew he was aware of my presence but that didn’t stop him from jumping when I poked him in the side. “Fucker. What the hell took you so…” He stopped when he turned and saw us standing there, his brow shooting up as he looked between Dehv and me with a question in his eyes. I gave him a slight nod and his grin grew. He pushed me away and turned his attention to the male beside me. “I’m Wraith and you must be Dehvastation? Have a seat, some of what I found concerns you as well.” I walked to the other side of the table and took a seat across from Wraith.] You found information for both problems? Did you find..did you find him?
[Wraith didn’t take his eyes off Dehv as he slid us each a manilla folder filled with printouts]
Dehv: ~ I kept pace with Qhuinn as we kept walking. It was nice that Shade hadn’t been weird with him bringing someone with him. Though I guessed maybe they were used to him turning up with randoms now and again. I had to assume that Wrath and possibly other brothers had been down here with him. Though why that thought had my stomach knotting up wasn’t something I was willing to explore while I was still trying to take in all this shit. My hand was still curled around his, and while that would normally make me incredibly uncomfortable while I was in a totally unfamiliar place, I felt calm. And that also scared the shit out of me. I found myself having to shake my head to ensure I was focused on what else was happening. Especially as I tried to keep track of the brothers and who I might meet. Shade hadn’t seemed too bad, happy to joke around, while still looking like he could happily match me in a fight. Seemed like the brothers went in some order, oldest being the most serious and straight laced, and then the youngest being the one everyone had to watch out for. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time I’d seen that in a family tree. The thought made me smile slightly. I could imagine which one Qhuinn got on best with as well, just from the conversations we’d had and how quickly he seemed to get into trouble, no matter where he was. I was sort of glad about whatever protection shit this place had. Because it would hopefully keep us both safe from the bad luck charm him, and recently myself, had stamped on our foreheads. “Ok, three brothers. I’ll meet two today, the younger two of the three. But if I were to meet E, he’s more serious. I can deal with that.” I nodded and followed on as we moved into a canteen. There was a few people dotted around, but Qhuinn obviously spotted Wraith across the room. The change of his stance and the way he sped up just slightly told me that he was in a hurry to catch up with the male. I watched closely as the two seemed to communicate between themselves. The nod at our hands not being lost on me, and still I didn’t move to pull away. I was ready to defend myself if I needed to, but the grin that came instantly allowed me to relax. I was about to offer up my other hand to shake when the male named me. That had me on edge slightly, especially with information that I might be interested in and involved me. That had my frown hitting my head fast. “I am Dehvastation, feel free to call me Dehv. What information have you been looking into? And why would it have anything to do with me?” I looked between the two, questions swimming across my face as I refused to sit. While I was sure that Qhuinn wasn’t out to hurt me, Wraith either, I was still a little hesitant. I stood for a minute while I glanced at the two before me and then looked around the place. After a few minutes I nodded and slowly lowered into a chair, “Ok, I trust Qhuinn, so I’ll trust you. Sorry I’m on edge, had a few issues in recent months. Now my brain has caught up with my mouth, I’m guessing that is what you’re going to talk to us about? Or I hope anyway.” I nodded and then settled both hands on the top of the table, my entire focus landing on the demon, vampire, male in front of me. ~
Qhuinn [I could sense Dehv’s nervousness, not that I blamed him. Not all that long ago he only knew of humans and vampires roaming the streets, now I had him balls deep in a hospital filled with creatures of all species. He was still taking it better than I expected. Which was good, especially as other than Tohr, he was the only one I’ve brought with me here to meet the brothers. This was almost like meeting the parents, not that I told him that, but I’m sure he could sense the protectiveness in the eyes of both Shade and Wraith. At Dehv’s question, Wraith glared at me and cocked his brow, “Dude….” I shook my head and looked at Dehv] I asked Wraith to poke around to see if he had information on the attacks against you. That’s what he does best, procure information and find shit.
[turning my attention back to Wraith and the folders, I gave him the same stink eye right back] Nice avoidance, did you find him or not? What did you find out for Dehv? More importantly, how much is this going to cost me?
[Wraith grinned wide at me and shook his head, “You shoulda told him before you got here, numbnuts. Based on what you told me about how you…oh never mind” Wraith grinned wickedly and I shot him my best glare because I knew damn well where his train of thought was going. I never shoulda told him that shit. Then again, the asshole could pull it right from my damn brain without a thought. “I’m kidding. But yeah, I got some good information, as for the cost, the wife wants to go see some Broadway bullshit and we both know how well I do with that, soooooooo, you’re gonna take her in my place.” I groaned and gave a slow nod in agreement before waving my hand for him to go on. “So, according to my sources, the demon’s been slinking around in South America. He’s got another family in his sights so the quicker we can get him out of the picture, the better. Eidolon’s already spoken to the Judicia and you have full reign on how this is handled. All E wants is a token to know it’s done. I, on the other hand, want to be there to watch, so you better keep me in the loop.” He turned to Dehv and flipped open the folders, “Now, I dunno who any of these people are, vampires tend to steer clear of me, other than this asshole.” He pointed to me and grinned, “But here’s some names and bank accounts that we were able to track down. I think it goes deeper, but again, I don’t know who the parties are. This is a start and if you’d like I can keep digging, or you can take this and run with it how you want to handle it.” He turned back to me and raised a brow, “You know anything about the big explosion outside your little city? I know things tend to go to shit around you and I’m just wondering if the influx of patients we had was your doing.” I snorted and shook my head] I’ve been good, dammit. The only fights I’ve even gotten into where with this one.
[I nudged Dehv’s shoulders and flashed a wide grin at Wraith] Tell Serena to send me the details and all that.
[I watched Dehv after as he went through the papers before him, hoping he wasn’t too mad at me digging around. I just didn’t want to see him being attacked for no damn reason. I told him that I would do anything I could to help him and I meant it.] Dehv…are you okay with this?
Dehv: ~ I found my lips quirking when Wraith chastised Qhuinn. It made me smile to think that they both mothered the other. Or that’s how it seemed listening to them talk. It didn’t stop the tension that sat on me like a ton of bricks when I found out that there was something Qhuinn had asked Wraith to look into. Though when Qhuinn acknowledged that he should have probably told me before bringing me here, it made me smile. I was glad he could agree to that one, and I found myself nodding in agreement. Though I didn’t want to speak just yet, listening to what was going on around me rather than interject. I had no idea what Qhuinn had wanted Wraith to look into, but it sounded serious. And if I was happy with whatever had been found out for me, I might just see if we could both look into both, or perhaps I could help at any rate. I was so focused on the male in front of me that I almost missed the payment for this particular amount of information. It sounded like a really good night, but I could tell from the fact Wraith was palming it off, and Qhuinn’s groan that neither one would have chosen to go. I almost volunteered, until I realised it would be a good way to punish Qhuinn, without being mean. Which appealed to me. I’d be sure to mention it next time I was alone with him, since I was sure he’d find it amusing. When Wraith turned to me, I blinked a few times and then frowned. Taking my time to listen to every word and then started to look through the paperwork that he’d found. I couldn’t figure it out. It didn’t make sense that someone in my life would want to do to me what they’d done. Sure, as part of the Brotherhood trainee programme, I was sure I’d get my fair share of lesser attention. But the incident with the Omega was completely separate to anything I’d experienced with the lost evenings, or the random druggings and tattoos. I didn’t really know what it all meant, or what to expect. I sieved through piece after piece of paper work, noting that some of the names and faces I recognised. Either from those we’d taken down in the park, or names that rang a bell from various places I’d lived through my life. It made no sense, and the lack of any kind of pattern was starting to make my brain hurt. I tipped my head to Qhuinn first, “Thank you for looking into this for me. I’d have liked to know before I got here, but I can understand why you didn’t. So again, thank you.” I nodded and smiled before turning my attention to Wraith, “I’m hesitant to ask if you’d continue looking into this for me. If you’re making Qhuinn go out with your wife, I’d hate to think what you’d ask of someone you didn’t know and trust.” I smiled at the male so he could tell that I was teasing, confident that Qhuinn wouldn't be this close with someone who couldn’t take a joke, “Regardless, if that would be ok with Qhuinn, I’d very much like you to keep digging. I’ll also do some digging into the faces and names I recognise and then I can get back to you. Either via Qhuinn or directly to you.” I smiled between the two males, then I waited, wanting to give them a minute to decide. ~
Qhuinn: [I didn’t take my eyes away from Dehv as he went through the file, even though I could feel Wraith trying to get my attention. I needed to make sure he was okay before I did any thing else. Especially when I saw that frown on his face. Dammit. Good job Qhuinn, you fucked up again. I didn’t even bother going through my own file as I watched him go through each piece of paper and I was pretty sure I forgot to breath until he tipped his head towards me and actually thanked me. That smile filled my lungs with much needed air and I offered my own relieved smile back at him] Thanks for not being too mad, I really did have the best of intentions.
[I shut up again as he turned his attention to Wraith and I saw the wheels spinning in the hybrid’s brain. I was soooooo gonna pay. He grinned wide at Dehv, “Don’t worry about it. Consider this your freebie as Q’s picking up the tab on it.” I groaned but my smile gave away my willingness to do what it took to help him get some damn answers. Wraith grinned wider, “I think babysi…”] Hell no. I will do anything else, but I am not watching Stewie. Nope. Not unless you want the kid swearing like a sailor and piercings happening.
[Wraith shook his head, “And Serena will have your balls for a door knocker if you do. I’m kidding, I love ya, Q, but you’re no spawn sitter.” At least we could agree on that. I loved Stewie but from a distance, like me making faces across the room. He turned his attention back to Dehv and nodded, “I’ll keep looking then, anything you come across just shoot me a text or pop in, or give it to dumbass over there. It’s a bunch of shit what you’re going through and because you’re important to Q, you’re important to me.” He tapped my folder and waited until my eyes met his, “Remember, when you find him, I wanna see him suffer. What he did to us, what he did to you…we’re not letting him get away with it.” Wraith’s eyes damn near glowed with the fury he felt towards the male in question and I knew my own fire was reflected in my eyes when I nodded back] I’ll make sure all of you are witnesses. He didn’t just fuck me over. He got us to us all and for that he needs to pay. After this, I’m taking Dehv to Sheol-gra, but when I’m back we can talk payment for this, beyond the date with your wife. I may be back in the Brotherhood program, but I will always have your back.
[Wraith grinned and held out his fist for me to bump, “Damn right you will, as we have yours…both of yours.” It made me feel good that he included Dehv in that, but at the same time, I hoped it didn’t freak him out considering…well considering he had no idea how important he was to me already. Fuck. And here Wraith is just chattering on. I looked at Dehv and bit the corner of my lip before speaking] Are you freaking out yet? Or you still wanna head below?
Dehv: ~ I looked between the two, enjoying the way they were so relaxed with each other. It really enforced the fact I could trust them both. I’d had experience, albeit in the human word, of people being friends while obviously not trusting each other. It was obvious, even if they tried to play it off as nerves. I found myself laughing when Wraith suggested that Qhuinn might want to babysit. It was about the same reaction I’d have had. While I’d happily spend time with friends kids, I wasn’t up for being left alone with them. I had no idea what I was doing, so was paranoid that I’d end up doing something wrong. It just wasn’t worth the anxiety. I wondered what the hell he had in store for Qhuinn in payment for continuing to look through things for me. I tugged out a card with my number on it and contact details, sliding it over to the male with a nod of acknowledgement before speaking, “Thank you for continuing to look into this for me. I hope whatever you decide to give Qhuinn as payment doesn’t come back to bite you in the ass, or haunt me.” I grinned widely and threw a wink to both males. I was happy that I had someone else who might be able to help. While I would have happily confided in Phury or Zsadist, I didn’t want them to have to deal with anything else on top of what they already had going on. It was easier to just keep away and train when needed. Do what they needed of me in order to keep others safe.
I tried not to listen in when Qhuinn and Wraith started talking about the other information, but it was hard to tune out something that passionate. Whoever they were talking about, it was someone who had screwed them both over. And I couldn’t blame them for that kind of resentment. I wanted to ask about it .But instead stayed silent, knowing I could speak with Qhuinn about why he was so pissed off. I didn’t want him to have to convince Wraith that I was trustworthy. I knew that he’d need me to prove myself. While Qhuinn’s word went a long way, he’s never trust anyone he didn’t know. Understandably.
When Qhuinn turned to speak with me I nodded along with him, “I trust you and will happily get all the help I can get from people who are able to get into place I’d never even think of. Hell, I didn’t know about half of this until today. While you’ve told me, seeing and hearing are two totally different things.” I smiled and thanked Wraith yet again for his help to now and for any future help. Shaking his hand and ensuring he was happy with the business card I’d given him. Letting him know to message or call anytime he wanted. I’d answer pretty much any time that wasn’t training at the Brotherhood’s centre or mid fight once I was on rotation. He snorted at me, but nodded his head. Then I stood and turned to face Qhuinn, “I’m not sure how much of the night we have left. But if we have time, take me now. I’m really fucking intrigued. If we don’t have time, we can pick up where we left off tomorrow night? Decision is yours.” ~
Qhuinn: [Wraith flashed Dehv a wide grin. “Don’t you worry about Q’s payments.” He shook his head and then after he took Dehv’s card and gave him one of his own before pushing back from the table, “You kids have fun and try not to cause too much trouble down there, Q. I have plans for the night that don’t involved rescuing your ass.” He snorted as I flipped him off and shook my head, mumbling about him being an ass. I stood with Dehv and grinned. His offer of ‘take me now’ went an entirely different direction in my head and it took every ounce of will power I possessed not to do just that. There would be time for that once he got used to me. I was going to do this right, dammit. I flashed a grin as I stood in front of him] We got all night, down there time works a bit skewed but without sunlight, that’s bound to happen.
[I chewed my lip and simply stared for a moment as I picked up my folder. And then decided since he was trusting me to help him, I wanted to show that I trusted him as well. I held up the folder as I watched him] Remember when I told you of the circumstances that led to me going through what I did? The guy who betrayed me and the brothers, and ultimately led to me being killed? Wraith and I have been looking for him. I know you’re busy with the Brotherhood and your business, but….if you’re up for a trip one day, maybe you might wanna come with me? The more eyes we have looking, the better chance I’d have catching the asshole. I know I’m asking a lot and you don’t have to answer, but maybe think on it?
[I folded up the folder and tucked it into one of my pockets and then lifted my eyes back to his.] We’ll go grab the gate and stop below first. Then we can watch the time for the sun so I can make sure you get home safely when all’s said and done, yeah?
[I don’t know what possessed me to do it, but I slid my arm behind him and settled my hand on the small of his back as I turned him towards the exit of the cafeteria, retracting our steps towards the exit and the waiting gate all while praying we didn’t run into E.]
Dehv: ~ I blinked as I was taken off guard at the honestly after Wraith left. I hadn’t expected it, and wasn’t going to ask right away. The folders were on the table, but i hadn’t expected Qhuinn to actively talk about anything but the information in the folder I was currently holding. I opened my mouth to speak, but the action of his hand settling on my back stole my breath. Holding hands had been weird, but more comforting than I’d openly wanted to admit. But this was a step further. He was well in my personal space, and it was a move that you usually used on those you were familiar with, far more familiar than the two of us were at the current moment. And yet, I didn’t complain, I couldn’t. I liked it and happily moved toward the door, keeping in step with the male as we moved through the hospital. I could tell he seemed a little on edge, and I wondered if it was because I’d moved closer as we walked, or whether it was because we still had one of the three brothers to meet. I didn’t ask, instead slowing as we neared the exit, wanting to voice what was currently bouncing around in the confines of my brain. I gave the place a quick scan before noting a curtained area that basically housed supplies from the looks of it. Three walls, a curtain and two rows of shelving. It was currently empty of anyone who could interrupt us. I grabbed Qhuinn’s wrist and pulled him past the curtain without warning and turned him so we were facing each other, “Ok, so the dude who basically lead to you being killed, he’s who you’re checking up on. Wraith is pissed with him because of it hurting you, and so is helping you, despite making you pay for the privilege.” I chuckled at that, because so far the ‘repayments’ were bullshit and just involved Qhuinn spending time with what appeared to be his family. “But you now have more leads, and would like my help in finding whoever did this and, what, bringing him forward to be held accountable, or is this a shoot first, ask questions later kind of deal?” I needed to know the answer, not that it would mean I gave a different answer, but I still needed to know what I was getting myself into. I breathed slowly as I awaited the answer on that one, wanting to stay quiet until Qhuinn had opened up, but finding I really had no ability to, “Also, you’ve held my hand and touched me like we’re far better acquainted than we are. Which I am not complaining about. But I, I guess I’m confused. I broke your nose when we first met, properly. And you had to admit we didn’t get off to the most conventional start. But I don’t mind the, um, familiarity I guess you could call it. Since I don’t know if you’re aware you’re doing it.” I tried for a smile. Very unused to addressing anything like this, as it rarely happened to me. Instead I found my gaze flicking around the room, my guard up as I waited on a denial or an apology. But I wanted to get things out in the open before we went another place where I needed to know that we had each other's backs. No point going in with doubts, then regretting that if one of us got hurt. ~
Qhuinn: [I should have moved my hand from Dehv’s back, I knew that. I had no business touching him like I did, but I found the more I was around him, the less control I had over myself. I heard the hitch in his breath but then instead of pulling away, he stepped closer and well that just sent that hope in me flying higher. Even if he only got closer because, let’s face it, the place was a bit creepy when you were first exploring it, I’d take it. When he stopped suddenly, I thought he saw something, and I guess he did as he yanked me into a small storage area. I let out a noise of surprise but quickly composed myself as he turned me to face him. I tried to read his expression and didn’t see malice or anything, just a curiosity, which was fueled by the words that came next.] Wraith is pissed because he hurt us all. He pretended to be related to them to get close, used me to get closer to them. Wraith wants him to suffer and I’m paying because he’s giving me the privilege of killing the asshole. They all want a piece of him for it. But I’m the one who died, the one who was punished. I would like your help, if you’re willing…
[ I was so focused on the first volley of questions, I nearly missed the rest. My stomach dropped and I involuntarily took a step back until I hit the shelving unit. It took a moment for al the words to filter through my self-hate monitor in my skull and to really catch what he was saying. I lifted my head and watched him carefully. Confusion was definitely rolling off of him. And I’d already decided I was going to be honest with him, no matter what he asked. I took a small step closer, my heart beat picking up as I did.] You’ve held my hand too. I’m not normally a touchy kind of person, like at all. After what happened, I didn’t trust people close to me. Even with breaking my nose, I can’t seem to stay away from you. I trust you, but I’m drawn to you.
[I stepped closer still, closing in on his personal space as my voice dropped lower. I should have stopped myself but I knew right now it was now or never. He’d either run or punch me or both.] That night we had dinner and you dragged me to the hallway, it took all I had to keep my hands off you. I can still taste you, you know. From that night at the club when I wasn’t quite myself. I sometimes wonder if it’s all in my head. No one could taste that could, have that kind of impact on me. No matter what the future is supposed to hold.
[I knew I was pushing it. But my brain and body were not on the same page. Not at all. I grabbed the back of his head and pressed my lips to his firmly, my tongue teasing along the soft skin as I savored his taste. I broke the kiss after a moment and lifted my head only slightly so I could gauge his reaction. I was prepared for a fight, for a flight, or anything in between]
Dehv: ~ I listened to what he said about the person he was searching for. It sounded like he’d done a number on Wraith, on all of the brothers. To think that they had a relative, and then to find out that they’d been lied to. That had to hurt. Family got closer to you than most, or rather, those you called family, blood related or not. I’d seen how both Shade and Wraith had spoken to not only Qhuinn, but me as well. Because Qhuinn was with me, trusted me, they had too. Just off his recommendation. Sure, we weren’t going to be sending Christmas cards to each other, yet. But they trusted me enough to know that I had Qhuinn’s back and would have theirs. Though I really hoped that wasn’t tested any time soon. I nodded my head to show I’d been listening. I saw his eyes sort of go vacant as I watched. I frowned and was about to answer his request, as well as check he was ok when he started talking again. I ran my tongue my bottom lip as I listened to him talking. The words making me warm, the thrill of knowing that I wasn’t the only one who felt this way. I couldn’t figure out why I had believed him, or why I was so quick to trust him. But I was drawn to him, no matter how much I tried to focus on anything, everything else. I inhaled sharply when I saw him move, that link feeling stronger the closer he got to me. Like the pulse of electricity between us was sending the heat flooding through me. I held his gaze, fingers itching to pull him closer, but I didn’t want to push, needed to see if what he was feeling matched my desire. I didn’t have to wait long, I could see the war happening in his head, the hesitancy while he decided, planned out the options and noted whether I was likely to punch him again. It was a fair consideration. And anyone but him, I’d have punched them long before this. The fact we were both practically the same height saved need for either of us to do more than get closer, and the minute his lips pressed to mine, I was fucking glad. I exhaled the breath I’d not been aware I’d been holding and unclenched my hands. Before I managed to do more, Qhuinn broke the kiss and met my gaze. Moving just far enough away for us to focus on each other. I huffed out a breath and flicked my eyes to the side to ensure we were still alone, and that it didn’t appear anyone was going to bother us for a few more minutes. Once I was sure I had a few minutes, I lifted my hands and curled my fingers into the hem of his shirt. Gripping it and his hips as I pulled him back in close, my grin splitting my lips until we were barely half an inch apart, “Yeah, I’ll help you. You know I will if that’s what you need. And I wasn’t accusing you of anything, just wondering if you and I were on the same page. It seems we are. I think?” I stopped talking as I questioned his feelings, knowing there was no need, but wanting to just to be polite. I didn’t break eye contact, but I did tip my head as I closed the distance again, savouring the way he felt against me. Not wanting to push any further than a kiss, despite the need that sparked each and every nerve. I wanted to see where this went, but that didn’t have to be rushed. Though, having him this close, the feel of his lips moving against mine, that was something that would likely have me losing track of time quite willingly. ~
Qhuinn: [I was pretty certain my heart stopped in my chest as I waited for his reaction, everything stopped actually for me. His taste lingered on my lips and my tongue, and it was a taste I could easily get addicted to. I didn’t move my hand from his head as I stood there, not willing to break that connection just yet. That little huff of his was my first indication that I wasn’t going to get hit, which was a damn good thing. I wasn’t sure how that whole haven spell would react to a moment like that and I’d feel kinda shitty if he hit me and then suffered twice. My lips curved when his hands came out to grab my shirt and my hip and I swore I felt sizzles of electricity racing along my skin. His breath brushed my lips when he told me he would help. And while I wanted his help, that wasn’t what I needed. What I needed was him. But he’d know that soon enough] Yeah, I need that, want that and I think we are…hope we are.
[I’d have said more but when I saw that slight tip of his head, my fingers tightened in his hair as I stepped flush against him. I was so fucking thankful I could see the way his eyes darkened slightly, how his lashes went from the dark to light, fanning those blue eyes. I never appreciated having the gift of color vision more than I did in this moment. The drone of the hospital outside the curtain we were behind faded to oblivion as I captured his lips for a slow kiss. My tongue teased his lips before I deepened the kiss, damn near growling against his lips. I brought my other hand up and settled it on his hip as I pressed closer to him. I needed to feel him, to remind myself this was real and not another dream. I didn’t know how much time passed and didn’t really care either. I would have happily kissed him until we were both breathless with need, but he deserved better than a quickie in the closet. All I needed to know now was that it wasn’t the end. I knew it was just the beginning. But for now I needed to get him out of this closet, there was a smell that seemed to grow stronger the longer we were here. Who knew what it was, but the last thing I wanted was him passing out from fumes or something. I grazed my fang over his bottom lip as I broke the kiss, breathing heavily, but I kept him close, brushing my lips over his with each word] Ready to head below before our hiding space gets discovered?
Dehv: ~ I grinned at Qhuinn, at how he was looking at me. It made me flush slightly, and that had nothing to do with how breathless his kisses made me. I’d managed to avoid getting emotionally involved with anyone unless it was purely platonic. Yet, for some reason I could already feel that I was probably in far deeper than even I’d admit to myself. I groaned softly into the kiss, my hold on him tightening as he moves in closer. Sliding both hands under his shirt to slide over warm skin, amazed at how easy it was for me to do that without hesitation. I normally thought a million miles a minute about what I should or shouldn’t do. I wasn’t one for one night stands, but I wasn’t against them. And I’d had my fair share, though they were mostly with humans. Since they were my natural circle of friends. Until I had met Frankie and her group. Though we didn’t necessarily get involved with each other, was likely it awkward. There was some exceptions, of course. But nothing that felt like this, certainly not so fast. I inhaled deeply as I found myself leaning into the kiss, reveling in how it felt to get close to Qhuinn. I could feel my entire body react, my heartbeat seeming to triple in pace as I tasted and explored. Thrilled beyond words that the feelings, and reactions seemed to be mirrored. Both of us at ease enough to just react rather than worrying about what the other might think. Gone was the hesitancy in either one of us that came from the thought that one or other was likely to suddenly lash out. When Qhuinn broke the kiss, I managed a breathless laugh before leaning back enough to meet his gaze, my skin tingling from the contact alone. “Yeah, I’d hate to scandalise anyone when they’re trying to save a life. Though I am sure they’ve seen worse.” I nodded, hoping the amusement, and probably clear need, was clear in my expression. I tried for a steadying breath before stepping back slightly, my teeth grazing my bottom lip to try and fend off the huge ass grin that wouldn’t leave my face. While I didn’t mind being happy, I wasn’t exactly sure it was appropriate in the midst of all the chaos currently going on outside of our little hidden bubble. I wasn’t getting anywhere with the grin, so instead I slid my hand back around Qhuinn’s waist, tugging him forward with me as I made my way back out in the main emergency waiting area and started back on our path towards the door. I knew where the gate was now, but there was no way I’d know where we were going from there, “Lead the way. I’m not sure what to expect where we’re going, anything I should know before we arrive?” ~
Qhuinn: [I growled soft at the touch of Dehv’s hands on my bare skin and I knew damn well if we didn’t move I was never going to let him go. Then again, I really couldn’t see that as a problem. I couldn’t stop myself leaning in to give him another small kiss. My smile grew wider as I watched him try to fight the grin on his face. I helped put that grin there and damned if that didn’t make me feel good.] Oh, they’ve definitely seen worse, in fact, I’m hoping to avoid the seeing worse myself. Sex demons often go for the closest dark space and no one wants to see that.
[I snickered and then watched all too carefully as his teeth grazed his bottom lip and damn if that didn’t make me want to say forget what we had planned and drag him right back to my damn cabin. Fuck. Especially when he kept his arm around me and tugged me with him, not that I put up much of a struggle. I mean it’s not like it was a huge hardship to be pressed against him. I slid my hand from his hair down his back as we walked through the hospital to the gate. I gave a nod to the receptionist on our way out, ignoring that grin she wore. The one that told me she was running to spread the word the moment we cleared the building. Fuck it, the brothers already knew how I felt about him. I was just lucky they didn’t embarrass me already when they actually met him today. I shook that thought out and as we approached the gate, I flashed Dehv a grin] Well, it’ll be a lot like those we saw in there, expect more of them, slightly stinkier, some a little grosser. My goal is to keep us to one of the safer areas of Sheol-gra, just show you around and maybe see if we can learn anything while we’re there.
[I led him into the gate and then I slid my hand from Dehv’s back, lacing my fingers with his as I guided him to the controls. With each press of the map, I explained what was happening. I’d showed him when we game here and when we went out to eat, but now I wanted to teach him how it worked so he’d be in control when it opened in Sheol-gra] #AssholesUnite
