[ad_1] Wrestling in Olympics (PC: Olympics) Protests seem to have become a norm rather than an exception. On Friday, almost a dozen wrestlers had to resort to a protest outside the residence of Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi before things moved fast. A day before, Wrestling Federation of India Sanjay Singh had announced he was pulling out the 12-member team from the World Championship (non-Olympic weight categories) to be held in Tirana, Albania from October 28 to 31. RevSportz has learnt legal options had also been explored in the Delhi High Court, before protest seemed the only way out. Around 6pm, Friday, Mandaviya gave the green signal. Since January 2023, the wrestling controversy has been raging in the streets of New Delhi at the famous Jantar Mantar site. The same has been mentioned in detail, again, by Sakshi Malik as well, in her book. At the same time, it is also well-known now in the corridors of power in the Sports Ministry, who had engineered the wrestling protests. Officials with ulterior motives have since been moved out. What was also strange was despite the world body (UWW) recognising the Wrestling Federation of India, the Sports Ministry continued to place it under suspension. It is believed the minister had a change of heart since the sport of wrestling has suffered in India massively. Off late, Mandaviya has been meeting officials from various national sports federations, athletes and journalists. The ‘ideas exchange’ programme initiated by Mandaviya is not linked not just to the proposed draft sports bill but sports at a macro view. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here For once, a sports minister stepping in to clear wrestlers’ participation in an important meet abroad needs to be appreciated. There could be repercussions in the Delhi High Court, but the grapevine says the ministry will handle it. It is also important to mention, before this, the same court had wanted three months ago the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to form a new adhoc body. They refused. The battle between the Wrestling Federation of India and the other parties has been raging for a long time. Sanjay Singh first writing to UWW and mentioning “government interference” may not have seemed like a threat. What has swung things in favour of the wrestlers is a protest, which was peaceful. For those who have tracked the wrestling controversies since 2023, the change of heart from sports minister Mandaviya is a positive sign. He is engaging with the stakeholders, athletes included. For the record, on Friday, he did meet wrestlers, even though they had been kept waiting till 6pm. It may be presumptuous to believe the court wranglings will end soon, but Mandaviya and the officers in the ministry will deal with it. He is aware certain former wrestlers will use social media and cry wolf. At a time when wrestling has been removed from the 2026 Commonwealth Games programme in Glasgow, it is important the next generation of grapplers get to compete. Preparations for the Asian Games in Nagoya in 2026 cannot get affected. Then came the second encounter between India and the UAE, which they won by establishing dominance from the first batting innings onwards.
Future Conflict with Nepal
India will play their third and final league stage encounter against Nepal next. This match is set to take place at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on July 23 at 7:00 PM. This game is important since it will set up the pairings for the semi-finals, which will lead to the event championship match.

Team and Head-to-Head Performance
India and Nepal have already played one other, with India winning the encounter. India leads Group A as of right now, and they will definitely try to keep up their winning trend against Nepal. The way that Captain Harmanpreet Kaur approaches this game and who he chooses for the starting XI will be crucial.

Fielding Coach Munish Bali Praises ‘impact Player’ Amanjot Kaur For All-round Show In Third T20I
Renuka Singh Thakur: India fielding coach Munish Bali showered praise on seam-bowling all-rounder Amanjot Kaur, calling her as an ‘impact player’ for showcasing all-round heroics and helping the hosts’ beat England by five wickets in the third and final T20I of the series. At the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, Amanjot picked 2-25 in her three overs and took a splendid catch to dismiss Bess Heath. With the bat, she took two fours off top-ranked T20I bowler Sophie Ecclestone to make an unbeaten ten off just four balls and take India home in the chase of 127 with an over to spare. “She’s an impact player; if you see she came and bowled the fourth over in the powerplay and bowled very well. She fielded very well. She bowled for 3-4 overs yesterday (during second T20I on Saturday) and made an immediate impact with a brilliant catch.” “When we were chasing (on Sunday), 12 off 12 balls, the first ball she (faced was) whipped through the covers by her,” said Bali in the post-match press conference. Amanjot made her T20I debut earlier this year against South Africa and earned the Player of the Match award quickly for making 41 not out off 28. Since then, she’s played nine T20I games and even debuted in ODIs too. Though India lost the series 2-1, they had a huge positive in fast-bowler Renuka Singh Thakur coming back to action post a stress fracture injury. In the series, Renuka had figures of 3/27, 2/26, and 2/23, giving India a good start with her lines and lengths. “She knows her game very well; she sticks to her limitations and knows the areas where she’s bowling and is very smart with her proceedings. She knows the areas she wants to hit and she is doing exactly that,” added Bali. Though India put up a better fielding performance on Sunday, the first two matches didn’t go that way and Bali felt the team playing under lights after a long time had some effect too, while adding that the newcomers are bringing in the youthful energy to fielding. “We played a day-night game after almost six to seven months. The last game that the girls had played was in WPL, after that they have not played in the night time. It is always very difficult as a team when you are playing after six-seven months. But we started practising and get used to under lights that is why the results are coming.” “Fielding and fitness goes side by side. So, we are working on fitness as well as fielding aspect. It is going well so far. If you are fit enough, you are a good fielder. Amanjot, Jemimah and Shreyanka are supremely fit.” “After the Bangladesh series, we played after a long time and have now many newcomers in the team. We have very good youngsters in the team who are very energetic. We are progressing well and look forward to the next series.” Read the full article

[ad_1] Renuka Singh Thakur for India (PC: BCCI Women) After a commanding 59-run victory in the first ODI, India Women are preparing for the second game of the series against New Zealand Women at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India’s bowlers, particularly the spinners, were outstanding in defending 227 in the opener. However, fans are increasingly concerned about the form of their lead fast bowler, Renuka Singh Thakur, who went wicketless, conceding 30 runs in seven overs. Renuka has played 12 ODIs so far, taking 20 wickets at an economy rate of 4.79. Her debut year in 2022 was exceptional; in seven innings, she took 18 wickets with an economy of 4.62 — all in away conditions. Yet, over the past two years on home grounds, her performance has declined, with only two wickets in five innings at an economy of 5.08 and a strike-rate of 105.0. It appears that opposition batters are now reading her variations, and she has struggled to create the same deception. Renuka is known for her deceptive inswingers with the new ball, especially during Powerplays. But, producing that early swing requires some help from the conditions. This may explain why she achieved her best results in England, where she took eight wickets in just two matches at an economy of 4.30 and a strike rate of 15.0 — conditions ideal for swing bowlers. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Renuka Thakur’s ODI performances so far (Source: ESPNCricinfo) However, Renuka’s challenge has been her inability to take wickets consistently on home soil. With India set to host the 50-over World Cup next year, the team will aim to perform well in front of the home fans. By then, with more experience, Renuka is expected to be a key player and leader of the bowling unit. This makes it crucial for her to crack the code to wicket-taking in India. Regardless of the game format, early wickets always give a team a valuable boost, putting immediate pressure on opponents. In T20Is, Renuka has been outstanding, both in taking wickets and maintaining a low economy rate. During the recent T20 World Cup, she took seven wickets in four games at an economy rate of 5.62. Renuka Singh Thakur in the T20 World Cup 2024 (PC: BCCI Women) She was expected to carry this momentum into the ODI series but struggled in the opening game. If India are to succeed, her form will be essential. Over the past two years, Pooja Vastrakar has been India’s most effective pacer in this format, with seven wickets in six games at an economy rate of 5.97. However, Vastrakar is unavailable for this series due to an injury, making Renuka’s role even more critical along with the debutant Saima Thakor. Fans will be hoping Renuka steps up to lead the unit, beginning with an improved performance tomorrow.
