College AU where Kohaku and Senku deal with being roommates. SenHaku Week 2021 Day 3: Roommates
Tumblr media
Stone University was the most prestigious school in the country.
The school with their top-notch classes gave birth to genius professionals. That’s why a lot of famous people from various fields came here. Not only did they have tough entrance exams, but the freshmen year was also hellish. But after the gruesome first year, the students could customize a schedule fit for them. Some would say the school had a complicated system.
However, the dorm was more unpredictable.
The students were required to live in the residence hall after the gruesome first year. The rooms were spacious enough to do anything they want. There was a kitchen, a bathroom, beds, closets, and a vacant space. It seemed perfect, but the administration has a way of matching roommates randomly.
It was random enough that two people were having a hard time figuring out the current arrangement.
"Lioness, do you know why they paired us up?" Senku asked as he set down the last of his boxes.
"I'm not a lioness!" Kohaku huffed. "I don't know. I was supposed to be with Ruri."
"I never heard siblings in different years being roommates."
"There was one before!"
"They were twins." The scientist stuck a finger in his ear and observed the red-faced blonde.
In the end, she turned back to unpacking the rest of her luggage.
They were definitely off to a good start.
------------------------------------------------
The two roommates were already familiar with each other before they lived in the same room.
They came across each other frequently despite being in different programs and clubs. Ruri and Rei were to thank for that. It was the same for their friends. Still, they weren't able to really interact a lot back then. It was only until they became roommates that they got to know each other. Not just their quirks, but also their different studying habits.
Senku glanced from his tablet when he heard a loud thump. Kohaku was troubled again. He knew from the six months of being together that she'd lightly hit her head on the table when she was frustrated with her studies. Tonight was one of those times. He couldn't blame her. Cramming for the finals have always been ten billion percent a pain.
However, he was wondering why did the girl choose Radiologic Technology as her course out of everything. With how active she was in sports clubs, he almost thought she was in Sports Science. She was very involved in the school. A small smile found its way to his lips. He really admired her ability to juggle her academics and extracurriculars.
"Senku," Kohaku called out. She turned her head to face him. "What's wrong?"
A perceptive lioness, as usual.  The boy adjusted from his seat before asking. "Why did you take your course?"
The girl sat up straight and Senku couldn't help but notice how her blue eyes were full of emotions. "We had to rush Ruri to the hospital before. The radiologist there discovered my sister had pneumonia. If we found out late, she would have died."
"Ruri has been doing well already."
"And, I'm happy about that." Kohaku smiled. "I wanted to be like that radiologist. I wanted to save people like her."
The two settled into silence once she was done speaking. There were no more words to be said. It wasn't awkward. It was... comfortable.
The night continued with a peaceful silence around them.
------------------------------------------------
By the time they hit their junior year, their schedules were different from each other.
Senku's timetable was filled with classes in the morning. By the time it was afternoon, he was either in his club or in their room. Her roommate was mostly spending his time crafting a spacecraft. Whether it was his own choice or because his program demanded it, he was occupied.
Kohaku was busier. She alternated her schedule between classes and clubs. The girl claimed that staying still and listening to all the lectures were going to drive her crazy. It's why she opted to squeeze her clubs in the middle to get some fresh air. She even had to practice for competitions from time to time.
The two developed a routine throughout the time they spent. They always had dinner together despite their busy schedules. If they couldn't, they'd grab a snack at least.
After coming from a long tiring kendo practice, the lioness desperately needed a shower. She opened the door to their room and was greeted by the cold air. Her grip on the box full of mille-feuille tightened as she shivered. She couldn't let the box drop to the floor. It was their snack before Senku leaves for dinner with Byakuya, Lillian, and Rei.
"Senku, it's too co-" Kohaku stopped upon seeing the Aerospace Engineering student asleep on his desk. The afternoon sun was the only thing illuminating their room, and it created a paradisical image of their space. She would have continued to be in trance at the scene in front of her if it wasn't for the soft rustling sound of the papers on the floor.
Placing the box of sweets on the kitchen counter, she tiptoed to his bed and took the neatly folded blanket. The girl unfolded it with a flourish sending some papers flying. She'd pick that up later. For now, she should make sure her roommate won't be freezing by the time she finishes her bath.
She was fast to clean up the room. She had to. There are two more hours until his family arrives.
As she was about to get into the bath, courage struck her. The blonde glanced back to the sleeping figure by the window. The silly thought in her head pushed her forward to do something uncharacteristic. With steps as light as a fairy, Kohaku hurried to his side and planted a gentle kiss. She practically ran to the bathroom after that.
And if Senku felt her lips on his exposed forehead, he didn't dare to open his eyes and speak of it.
------------------------------------------------
When their senior year started, the roommates already gained an almost perfect understanding of each other.
That included the awful luck one student has.
Days before his thesis defense, Senku just had to be down with a fever. It wasn't the kind that will immediately go away with a good night's sleep. He struck gold with the one that made him incapacitated to move. On the bright side, he didn't have to prepare for the defence.
"I'm sorry, lioness." The engineering student weakly apologized.
From the small kitchen, Kohaku resisted the urge to snap at the nickname. It wouldn't do them good if she did. He needed rest more after 'accidentally' overworking himself. He should conserve his energy more.
The blonde decided to focus on cooking the ramen. No matter how sick he was, he always had the appetite for it. It's one of the reasons why she decided to learn to cook it from him. The taste wasn't like the one they bought in the ramen house an hour away from the university, but it was close enough.
Taking care of Senku was definitely a piece of cake for her. She already did this many times not only to him but also to her sister. When the food was cooked, she made sure he was propped up and the ramen wasn't steaming hot for him to eat. They ate in silence with the lioness having to spoonfeed him.
Once they were done, Kohaku got busy cleaning up. The earlier she could get the boy to rest, the better. She still had to smooth things out for her practicals. He might be almost done with his requirements, but she still had two to fix.
"Kohaku?" Senku called her name as she tucked him in.
The lioness swore her heart skipped a beat. "Yes?"
"Thank you." And with that, the boy placed a tiny kiss on her forehead and he sleepily chuckled. "I remember that too."
No more than a minute did he fall asleep, leaving her shocked from his actions. She held her face as a blush slowly crept to her face. Memories of the stunt she did a year ago rushed to the surface, and she felt more embarrassed than ever.
And if Senku felt her kiss from before, he did dare to speak of it while in a state of a delirious fever.
------------------------------------------------
Stone University always had a graduation party for graduates.
It was an event where alumnae and outsiders were welcomed to wander around the school's residence halls. Some freshmen would take this opportunity to have a sneak peek of their stay. For the seniors, it was their last opportunity to have a feel of their second home.
Kohaku and Senku stood in the middle of their room, taking one last look at everything before they start packing tomorrow. They weren't the type to feel melancholic. It wasn't like they couldn't help it. There were so many memories of their stay here.
Honestly, they still didn't know why the school administration decided to put them in the same room.
"Senku!"
"Kohaku."
The graduates turned their attention to the source of the voice. They found Rei and Ruri smiling at them from the doorway.
"Ruri? Rei?" Kohaku tilted her head to the side.
"We knew you'd be here!" Rei answered as she bounded to Senku with a bouquet of hydrangeas. "After all, we picked out this room for the two of you!"
"We hope you had a lot of good memories here. Congratulations on graduating." Ruri casually said.
For a while, the two roommates weren't sure if they heard Rei correctly. They turned their heads toward each other and looked back at their older sisters. If Ruri and Rei picked out this room for them, then...
"Rei, did you just say..." Senku trailed off.
"We picked out this room for the two of you!" His older sister repeated, but this time with a more cheerful voice.
"But, how?" The younger blonde exclaimed.
"As part of the student council, we had privileges." Ruri glanced at Rei. "Since Rei and I were friends, we thought the two of you might get along well too."
Silence.
The room was so silent you could hear a pin drop. It was a needed silence though. Whatever theory Senku and Kohaku had before, it was proven wrong in an instant by their sisters.
"All this time, we believed ten billion percent that the administration was behind it." Senku chuckled. "I didn't consider the student council. That explains why the school got crazier when Ryusui became president."
"Ruri, why didn't you tell me?" Kohaku asked her sister.
Ruri made an apologetic face. "Sorry. It was supposed to be a surprise."
"Anyway, you're missing such a great party downstairs!" Rei pulled on Senku's hands. "Let's go."
"Rei, can you give us a minute?" Ruri and Rei glanced at each other until the older blonde smiled knowingly.
Kohaku smiled when their older sisters left. It would probably be a long time before she and Senku would be able to meet again. They already have promising futures ahead of them. They would be busy with their lives.
Before any of them could say a word, the two closed the distance and tightly hugged each other. Three years. It took them three years to have this kind of hug.
It wasn't the end, but they might as well start with one hug.

Ok gonna talk about my vision for this au since I genuinely will probably never finish it and I like it:
Senku is a somewhat reclusive scientist who pretty much lives exclusively off of research grants and is kind of terrible at taking care of himself
Senku was pushed to hire an assistant by Taiju, his childhood friend and personal bodyguard (well, Senku only hired him because Taiju didn’t do well in college and has practically no other skills, he does more housekeeping and shopping than guarding)
Yuzuriha starts out doing mostly ordinary work, answering emails, keeping his schedule in order, bringing him coffee, that sort of thing. She barely interacts with Senku for the most part, but she does talk with Taiju, becoming genuine friends with him
One day Taiju goes out for a groceries run (Yuzuriha is pretty confused about how he’s supposed to be a bodyguard by now) so when Senku calls the office telling Yuzuriha to send Taiju down, he realizes he’s not there, and tells her to come down instead, because he needs help with an experiment having to do with water decontamination
The lab is a total mess (Senku insists there’s order to the chaos)
Yuzuriha’s dexterity proves to be so useful and her notes so neat that Senku says he’ll give her a raise if she accepts the responsibility of also being a lab assistant
The two start casually talking while they’re waiting for things to centrifuge and the like, and end up bonding over having grown up with such an enthusiasm in their respective interests that nobody could really understand them
Over time, Senku, Taiju, and Yuzuriha start growing closer and Yuzuriha starts developing romantic feelings for Taiju
One day Senku has an interview and when he just throws on some wrinkled clothes for it, Yuzuriha takes one look and goes through his closet to find something a little more stylish
The result ends up being impressive enough that Senku decides to let her coordinate his public facing outfits
Senku (as Dr. Ishigami) is suddenly invited to a gala held by Nanami Ryusui, who's one of his sponsors for the water decontamination research. He’s allowed to bring his bodyguard and a plus-one, and ordinarily he’d bring his little sister Rei (Byakuya and Lillian’s daughter), but it’s late on a weeknight and she’s still in high school, and Lillian is already going with Byakuya, so he asks if Yuzuriha would like to come with him
This also gives Yuzuriha the opportunity to design fancy outfits for herself, Senku, and Taiju. She decides to make them a set, as they're all a part of the Ishigami Labs team
At the gala, some rich jerk makes a comment about Senku bringing his "secretary" to such a fancy occasion, and both Taiju and Senku come to her defense, though Yuzuriha proves cool and calm enough to handle herself just fine on her own
Ryusui then introduces himself and expresses admiration for their outfits, being very impressed when he finds out Yuzuriha made them. He commissions her for a fancy suit of his own, and later says he'd offer her a loan if she ever wants to try striking out as an independent designer.
The offer is far more than Senku could ever pay her, and when he learns about it Senku says Yuzuriha should take the offer, since working for him was always going to be a transitional phase for her
Taiju is also very supportive of this idea, much to Yuzuriha's conflicted feelings since she doesn't want to leave them.
When she admits that they've become two of the most important people in her life and that she can't imagine following her dreams if it means she can't be with them too, Senku rather pointedly says she doesn't have to leave if she marries Taiju
What? You guys were taking so long!
Fast forward to the grand opening of Yuzuriha's boutique, Haute Couture Yuzuriha, where in her big speech of gratitude she talks about what the boys mean to her. A happy ending!
I have this WIP and I don't know if it'll ever get fully written out so uhhhh throwing this summary blurb from my notes out there in case anyone wants to ask about it. I'd describe it as like...an office/lab assistant au with a focus on a slow burn three-way queerplatonic relationship.
Our Girl Friday
After years of getting nowhere in her job interning at a fashion magazine publisher and suffering abuse from her boss and coworkers, Ogawa Yuzuriha decides to quit, though she has a hard time finding another job. Suddenly, she finds an advertisement for a position as a personal assistant to a reclusive scientist, and jumps at the opportunity. Little does she know that her new employer and his bodyguard will change her life forever.
Snippet under the cut:
Yuzuriha double checked the address. Then she triple checked it.
This…can’t be the right place, can it? Given the advertisement she was expecting something a bit more impressive than a nondescript looking house in the middle of an ordinary street. But no, the number was correct, and there was a little sign next to the door reading “Ishigami Laboratory.” After a moment of hesitation, she rang the doorbell.
An enormous man with dark hair opened the door, and Yuzuriha held back a gasp—he was quite handsome, with a strong jaw and impressive muscles.
“Oh!” He gasped. “Hello! I—how can I help you, Miss?”
Yuzuriha shook off her shock. “Um, I’m Ogawa Yuzuriha. I’m here for a…job interview? At three o’clock?”
The man’s eyes widened. “Oh! Oh you’re—right, sorry, please come in!” Yuzuriha was ushered inside and to a couch.
“Would you like some tea, Ogawa-san?”
“Um, sure. Tea sounds lovely, thank you.”
As the man busied himself with a teapot, Yuzuriha glanced around the floor. It looked pretty much like how you’d expect an average home to be, with neatly arranged furniture and flowers on the dining room table. This doesn’t exactly seem like a science laboratory…
The man set down a tray with two cups of steaming green tea. “Oh, I should introduce myself! I’m Oki Taiju, S—Dr. Ishigami’s bodyguard.”
Yuzuriha fought back the urge to raise an eyebrow. What’s a bodyguard doing giving job interviews? “It’s nice to meet you, Oki-san,” she said politely.
Oki smiled at her. “So Ogawa-san, you’re interested in being Dr. Ishigami’s personal assistant?”
Yuzuriha nodded. “I saw the advertisement in the paper, and I applied right away.” Not technically a lie—she did apply to the ad immediately, along with three other jobs that had already rejected her. Personal assistant wasn’t exactly Yuzuriha’s dream role to play, but she needed something to pay the bills and it didn’t seem too difficult.
“Is that envelope for me?”
“Yes, I brought my resume and credentials,” Yuzuriha said, opening the envelope she’d brought with her and handing Oki the papers inside. He scanned them appraisingly as she sipped at her tea, eyes widening.
“You last worked at a fashion magazine, Ogawa-san?”
“Yes, as secretary to the editor,” Yuzuriha said. “I know I don’t have much experience listed with being a personal assistant, but I’m well versed in answering phone calls, sorting mail, and organizing schedules.”
She’d hoped to rise through the ranks and acquire some connections in the fashion world, but that work environment…Yuzuriha repressed a shudder. Quitting that job was probably one of the smarter things she’d done in her 30 years of life.
Oki nodded. “That’s mostly what we’re looking for anyway. Dr. Ishigami doesn’t have a lot of time to answer messages, and if he ignores people too much they get upset.” He handed the papers back to her. “Would you be okay with starting tomorrow?”
Yuzuriha blinked. “Huh? Aren’t you going to ask me some more questions before just giving me the job?”
Oki scratched the back of his head awkwardly. “Ah…I’ll be honest with you, Ogawa-san…you’re the only applicant we’ve gotten in weeks.”
Yuzuriha stared at him. “Oh.” What was she supposed to say to that? “I…would’ve thought that a renowned scientist like Dr. Ishigami would have people lining up to work for him,” she said eventually.
Oki sighed. “Yeah, you’d think that, huh? But Dr. Ishigami is…” he shrugged. “He can be a bit…much, for some people. Not that he’s a bad person! Really, he just doesn’t mix well with others.”
“I…see.” That could be a red flag, but Yuzuriha really, really needed this job. “Well then, I’ll do my best!”
Oki smiled so blindingly bright Yuzuriha nearly had to shield her face. “That’s great!” He bowed his head suddenly and she squeaked in surprise. “Thank you so much, Ogawa-san! Really, from the bottom of my heart, I’m so grateful you’ll be working with us!”
“Ah, I’m glad too!” Yuzuriha stammered. Was he that desperate for someone to accept the job?
Oki stood up. “Okay, let me give you the tour!”
“So, um,” Yuzuriha said as Oki led her through the house and pointed out the bathroom, the office where she’d be working, and the library. “Dr. Ishigami’s laboratory is also his home?”
“Yep,” Oki nodded. “He doesn’t like commuting to work, and he’s very particular about the way his equipment and research is set up—he doesn’t want anyone else messing with his process. The lab covers most of the basement floor, while the rest of the house is living space.”
“What’s Dr. Ishigami’s schedule like?”
“Oh, right!” Oki nodded. “Okay, so usually he gets up around 10am, works until 2pm, has lunch, then works until 7pm, has dinner, then works until 1am and goes to sleep. Unless he has an event or a meeting he needs to go to, that is. You’ll be in charge of keeping track of those.”
“Uh, right…” Yuzuriha tried to focus on the frankly very generous wages she’d been offered. “So then…shouldn’t you show me around the lab?”
His face fell. “Ah, well…Dr. Ishigami doesn’t really like strangers in his working space.”
Yuzuriha frowned. “But I’ll be going down there at least a few times every day, right?”
Oki scratched his chin. “Well, he’d prefer it if you didn’t. There’s a phone line in the office that goes directly to the lab, if you really need to talk to him while he’s in there. Otherwise you’ll probably only see him in the mornings and when we go to meetings or events.”
Okay, the flags were getting a little redder, but Yuzuriha tried to look on the bright side—at least the guy wouldn’t be constantly in her face all the time like her last boss.
With the tour complete and the paperwork in order, Oki saw Yuzuriha out the door, and she found herself looking over her shoulder at the house as she walked away.
I hope this isn’t a mistake…

I’d wondered what sad thing was going to come of this moon mission but senku, no. No. Also, you’re gonna need space suits unlike that picture showed because otherwise you’ll suffocate before you even manage to throw the medusa, but that’s neither here nor there because no 😭 Unless you meet Rei while you’re up there before you throw the medusa, because that would be a major game changer

Dr. Stone Reboot: BYAKUYA
I can't believe I just knew of this spin-off or prequel just now.
It did not only show the full extent of Byakuya's love for Senku but it also introduced his other child.
The robot Rei.
Rei who have been waiting for his return for thousands of years.
Tumblr media
He knows that he won't be able to return but he still shed a tear for a robot he built.💔
Tumblr media
Poor baby 😭
Tumblr media
And how ironic is it that both of Byakuya's children are revived at the same time. One was revived from his petrification and the other from its self revival thru 3D printing at space.
They are siblings. You can't change my mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kudos to Chrome for noticing this. He is the only person who knows of Rei for now (sort of). And how clever he is to keep track of Rei's signal to get the message.
Senku I hope you see this at the main story the soonest. 😭 Your robot sister is waiting in space.
Tumblr media
I hope they meet in space. They are the only one's who have met and known Byakuya.
The only comfort I have in Senku's possible space exploration is he will have one hell of a super robot to help him.
My heart bleeds for this space loving Ishigami family 💔

My thoughts on Dr. Stone’s Chapter 224 (“In Space”)
My thoughts after reading Chapter 224:
01. Showing us how far the world had come, and showing parts of the journey of the kingdom of science... :O And a reminder of Byakuya’s conviction about Space Ramen 2.0... :)
02. Ohhh... the two-page panel of the rocket in the brilliance of the stars in space... is GORGEOUS... :O And the stars were reflected in Senku’s eyes... perfect! :)
03. Dr. Xeno wanted to give Senku a moment alone in space... all of outer space, and just him alone... :O But I didn’t even think about him having a chance to weep freely until Gen mentioned it... :’(
04. And even Stanley knew as well - they planned this! Aww, that’s really nice! :)
05. Modern era people actually considered making a spaceship with no windows?! That’s RIDICULOUS! :O Whose stupid idea was THAT?! >:O
06. Kohaku’s been revived, and she’s acting like space tourist! XD Like what her ancestor Lilian was! (To be fair, she IS kind of a space tourist :D)
07. Ahhhhh, Senku called Kohaku a lioness again!! :) I’m so happy!! :D And, HA, as if Senku’s not excited out of his MIND... XD
08. And there it is... space ramen :’( Over three thousand years ago, Byakuya and Senku made that so Byakuya could eat it in outer space, and now, humanity has come so far and Senku and Kohaku (and Stanley) are also eating ramen in space, just like Byakuya said humanity would... :’)
09. Ahh, I’m loving these large panels of Senku and Kohaku together, talking to each other...! :D And Kohaku referred to Byakuya; that just makes so much sense after everything she and Senku have been through together!! :)
10. Kohaku knows something’s up about that original space station! :O Which brings me to a point that I should feel stupid to not have realized before - WHYMAN EXISTED BEFORE THE PETRIFICATION! Which means he existed before Byakuya and the others left outer space!
11. that means that there are two possibilities: One, Whyman is Rei, and she petrified all of humanity because she wants wants humans to live forever because she loves Byakuya. (I personally think of Rei as Senku’s unofficial sister :) ) (And if Rei IS Whyman, it also makes sense why she used a synthesized version of Senku’s voice.)
12. Back then, she was asking, “Why, why, why” because she didn’t know why Senku was making humans all unpetrified and soft and squishy and vulnerable again! And when she asked, “Do you want to die?” in that radio message, she wasn’t THREATENING them with death - she was ASKING them what they wanted, because she was OFFERING them eternal life, through the power of the Medusa(s)!
13. Or two, Whyman is a malevolent person or being or entity who, after the six astronauts went back to Earth, monopolized the International Space Station and all its resources, so it never fell back to Earth. Maybe Whyman just lets other bits and pieces of whatever fall to Earth to make it LOOK like the ISS was destroyed, even though it wasn’t! (I suppose Rei could have done this too, for non-malevolent reasons.)
13. But, whether Rei is Whyman or whether somebody else is, I think that Kohaku is asking about the International Space Station is because it still exists and she saw it, or even just a trace of it or a little bit of it, in the satellite images, although she may not have known what she was seeing at the time...
14. (I think the last panel shows a second part of the rocket connecting with the part that Senku and the others are in?) I think the final showdown will come down not to a battle, but to a choice - normal mortality, or eternal life - that Senku will have to make, and whoever is giving Senku the choice (Rei?) will act according to Senku’s wishes. But... at this point, it HAS to be Rei, right? Because how else could Whyman be connected to Senku (using his voice)? Will the next chapter have technical complications or Earth crew preparations? I predict that the last panel of the next chapter will be their getting a better visual image of Whyman, and possibly even a reveal of an intact International Space Station! :O
