Like I feel like if people framed redemption as Something You Work Towards rather than Something You Earn about 50% of the problems with that mentality would dissapear.
#redemption isn't about getting hit over the head constantly for pass missdeeds i think#its working on the behaviours that got you there#Thats the work#its living with what you did and humbling yourself to being wrong#but finding that balance where you aren't beating yourself with the same whip so much you can't move foward#its letting others condemm you and understanding that thats their right and somethings burn and you cant unburn them and accepting that..#that you Were bad#but...not condemming yourself to the point that you feel like all you are is Bad...because that will keep you from moving fowards#its about you as much as it is about the people you hurt#i think a lot of writers miss this...this middle ground and so you end up with#A) Welp They're Good Now That's All That Matters#or B) Make This Character Suffer To The End Of Days Forever Make Them Beg and Beg And Beg and Suffer For What They Did bc Punishment#....that.s..more a revenge arc to me tbh#or C) Character Dies As Redemption#and they're all...really bad extremes
