I think "America Says" was just blatantly racist...
I love game shows. Just having them on in the background while I do odds and ends tasks (this time, dishes).
Watching a few episodes of "America Says" ("Family Fued" rip off. SUPER staged. Only difference is they give you the starting letter of the answer. WHOA! Revolutionary! <SARCASM>.)
In one episode, a group of all white people for an answer to "What did you keep from your wedding?" say "Pictures" but 'Photographs' comes up. It's counted (or vice versa. Don't remember. I just KNOW it was not the same word.)
Next episode I watched, an all black group gets to the FINALE. "What do people remember Michael Jordan for?" Guy says "Sneakers". Does NOT count. They LOSE. In the wrap up, turns out the answer was 'Shoes.' And I swear to god, like me, even the guy who said it, his face looked like 'what the fuck? That should have counted!' Now, fairly, they missed one more answer, BUT, in theory, if the show would've counted 'sneakers' they would have had more TIME for that last answer. Robbing them of the possible win...
(tho the last answer was DUMB. "What is San fran known for?" The one they didn't get? 'Family.' What kind of dumb fuck answer is that? I PROMISE you, the average citizen of San Fran wouldn't even fucking answer that.)
So...I propose this show is racist. Also cuz this is one of the ONLY times I remember seeing an all black group...You'll notice non white people mixed in...rarely an all black group on many of these shows. Actually...even more so, you see less 'all Natives, all Indians, all Asians, all Hispanics, etc'. It's like they don't hide their biases. Which is weird cuz with them indirectly dealing with gambling, pretty sure that's stacking the deck and/or illegal....

why do you hate Joshua Graham or Honest Hearts so much?
This DLC and character represents a bigger issue with fandom spaces I have but particularly fallout fandom in general.
Fallout tends to tackle a lot of topics controversial and not. The first two games itā€™s heavy cause they are the most satirical and direct with how anti-war, nationalism and etcā€¦ they are. 3 loses this as itā€™s very clear once you play or learn about all the games that Todd and a bunch of guys at Bethesda just liked the 50s post apocalyptic aesthetic and refuse to actually critique the ideals of the time period like the earlier titles.
New Vegas is the game that really gets back into it a degree it almost seems like itā€™s taking too much on. There are things done exceedingly well while other things are done horribly wrong . Iā€™ve made posts about it before and plan to make a big series of posts (itā€™s a lot of writing) but my biggest gripe is with Honest Hearts and all the gross and white savior esque depictions it has of indigenous peoples. The entirety if FNV does not do the injustices faced by indigenous people correctly on any count. My two biggest complaints are with the Khans and the tribes in Zion but Iā€™ll talk about the former on a different post.
Both characters of Daniel and Joshua are the most accurate depiction of white saviors Iā€™ve seen and I hate how the DLC tries to justify and defend them. The DLC treats Joshua like this man who has repented for his past actions when he is just retracing his steps after his cruelty bit him in the ass. He was one of the worst parts of the Legion and it is all but explicitly stated that if you donā€™t force him to be non-violent he will turn the tribes of Zion into the legion 2.0. The Dead Horses and the Sorrows are horribly infantilized by both Daniel and Joshua who both use them for self serving purposes guised by religious duty. The White Legs are the horrible stereotype of violent and savage indigenous and I personally think a lot of their interlinking with Ulysses, his hair and Ulysses character in general are distasteful and very telling of how BIPOC or POC where involved.
But outside of the game itā€™s the weird obsession people have with these characters ideologies and trying to make them seem more interesting/philosophical than they are. Tumblr is an echo chamber and many fans of Fallout are not the people on this site. Many people are not educated in the issues these characters convey and how poorly they do or used these characters as a poor introduction for their takes. Contrary to what a lot of people believe in, fallout has a prediomeny white cis male fanbase. More importantly a large portion of the fanbase is white.
You can joke how FNV made you trans or see the numbers on post/fics or diverse headcanons but these are kiddy numbers compared to the millions that consume the franchise and arenā€™t in those more aware spaces or donā€™t engage in the spaces the same way someone like me does/has to. Their views shape a lot more than people realize and itā€™s exhausting to be in a space where people donā€™t correct the more subtle yet toxic aspects of it but also adopt them into some weird quirky view point on the characters or issues. Some people donā€™t realize and some people donā€™t care.
My main issue is just the idolizing of these sort of thing in this fandom space and people try to acts like a game like fallout whose tagline is ā€œWar never changesā€ and has never had a game not revolve around political or militaristic factions issues isnā€™t that deep or doesnā€™t relate to real issues. I think itā€™s mainly caused by how over powered you can become and how you can strong arm your way past these learning moments as majority of people who play this game do play it as a power fantasy where they can do so as they please (which of course, go ahead itā€™s fun) but never take in parallels or lessons in the story as if it was just another first person shooter.
Also like another personal gripe is Cazadores spawn like hell whenever Iā€™m there and I have not found a mod that works to mod them out so I have to play Indigenous Racism the DLC while getting jumped by giant wasps WHILE helping Mormons. Like I cannot catch a break.
#Iā€™m mostly silly or character headcanon focused on this blog#but sometimes I forget some people literally have never interacted with someone slightly outside of their ideologies or donā€™t learn about#philosophies that donā€™t pertain to their view point and actively block them out#and so I have like a meltdown and occasionally post about it cause like I see more people hate Danse for regurgitating BoS teachings than#hate Joshua Graham who helped found the legion participated in their practices and still has this weird bloodlust#like make it make sense why do you like this white man genuinly like outside of his aesthetic#I can say silly shit about them hit itā€™s always I think itā€™s surreal they even exist while others genuinely wish they did so they could fix#them and some of all donā€™t realize how quickly jokes lead people down rabbit holes and pipe lines cause ur not gonna see posts even pitying#that man in here#like when I defend Danse it is through the signs and events in game that show he is not stuck in his ways and possibly only adopted those#beliefs because of his tramatic events with super mutants and the bos being very anti anything not human#their are affinity reaction that concern this while Joshua like moans yes when killing the white legs and is always polishing his gun goon#pile like Iā€™ve learned too much about him the Mormon faith and that dlc to be told Iā€™m playing favorites he is not fixable or repentent#this fandom has one of the worst issues of heā€™s my fave so he canā€™t do wrong when some of this characters are literal unapologetic rapist#racists or individuals who condone or perpetuate like ideas and concepts like obviously Iā€™m gonna not like them????!#like I still think itā€™s interest to dissect them and I try so hard to not be a hypocrite but sometimes itā€™s like the whole this is just a#fun thing for you but like be aware of what you are taking in and reflect like is so important fiction can slowly seep into your morals#Iā€™m rambling and losing track of shit so imma stop here before I reach the tag limit but again dm and ask cause this is the stuff I will#blab about#horrible at normal conversation tho#fallout#fallout new vegas#joshua graham#honest hearts#ask#anon#fallout 3

"why are they bringing back this character that absolutely has to be brought back because OF THE HUGE CHOICE AT THE WELL IN DAI when they could bring back this other character that can die and they'll have to waste an immense amount of resources to replace them with another character for those world states"

I'm not sure why someone would leap to compare Cait/Vi from Arcane and Mizrak/Olrox from Castlevania: Nocturne, as they're characters from different shows, different story universes, and different studios (Arcane was made by the French studio Fortiche, and only distributed by Netflix, while Nocturne is made by the US studio Powerhouse Animation, which makes a lot of shows for Netflix). Cait/Vi also has existed in a series with two seasons, while Nocturne has only 1 season (season 2 airs at the end of January 2025). It's also comparing an f/f couple and an m/m couple, different dynamics, and the former is a pairing of a white woman/a mixed-race woman, while the latter is two men of color.
CaitVi is a story about classism and police brutality, while Mizrox is a story of European and Christian supremacy, colonization, and racism. The main through-lines for comparison are the analysis of privilege and how opposites meet and attract on a battlefield, and that they're both queer pairings. But whereas Cait is privileged over Vi for being rich and a member of a policing organization (which murdered Vi's parents) while Vi is from a poor background in the slums, Mizrak is privileged over Olrox for being highly ranked in a supremacist European religious organization and Olrox is a member of a marginalized indigenous group, which was colonized by followers of Mizrak's religion. You can compare the writing of the two, but to pretend they're 1:1 just because they're both queer pairings in shows that are on Netflix is bizarre.
And to pretend Mizrox has no build-up is to not have eyes. Olrox is an investigative person who's curious about the world overseas he's been invited to. As a member of a marginalized group now in the hotbed of the world that mass murdered many of his people, he's going to be wary of them and treat the area with suspicion. He knows they view him as lesser, even though he's a powerful vampire (likely he assumes the vampires view him as lesser). He likely wanted an in to learn things that Erzsebet, Drolta, and Emmanuel wouldn't tell him themselves, and it makes sense he'd target Emmanuel's right-hand man as a potential in, particularly if he found the guy attractive, as he seemingly did. Maybe the fact that Emmanuel, this uber-white French guy, had a man of color as his right-hand man intrigued Olrox, too.
Olrox was clearly extra intrigued by Mizrak's training and their conversation in the courtyard, especially when Mizrak didn't attempt to hurt him and just talked to him, and it seemed like he had fun with their tussle (like you can tell from Olrox's expressions he was enjoying the back and forth). I imagine the "this dude is hot and I want to bang"-ometer in Olrox's head skyrocketed. And I don't know how much action Mizrak has been getting in his position, especially when, unlike Olrox, Mizrak has to live around anyone he sleeps with. Olrox is a foreigner and can just go home if he makes a mess. A hot guy who's interested in Mizrak, seems a bit different from other vampires, and has some civility seems like someone who would intrigue Mizrak, especially if he wants more intel on the vampires coming to his city that he won't get from Emmanuel or Erzsebet.
Even if you're watching the story for the first time, the whole set-up for the courtyard sequence is incredibly obvious. Whether it appeals to you or not is subjective, but pretending the later scene of them in bed comes out of nowhere is bizarre. Olrox very clearly invites Mizrak to meet again with sexual innuendo at the end of the scene, and Mizrak is very clearly intrigued, even if you don't have the English subtitles on while Mizrak is staring after Olrox's departing back.
Tumblr media
You can just see a lot in his expression. He's not disgusted or repulsed: he's curious. The story doesn't need to show every single moment of them reuniting somewhere, talking more, or perhaps just immediately moving to physical intimacy if one or both of them just really want to get off. I mean I'd personally love more of their story, which is why I wrote my main fanfic of them, but it's not necessary from an overall narrative standpoint. Olrox is introduced at the start of the story, and the team was clearly interested in exploring who he is as a character more. He doesn't have to stalk Richter for the entire narrative to do that, and having him pair up with Mizrak also develops more of Emmanuel's organization because we get to know Mizrak, who has no apparent connection to the heroes other than he works for Emmanuel. It also better develops the vampires as Olrox and Drolta vie for power, with Mizrak as a potential pawn. And overall it makes the different factions in the story feel full of people with their own agendas, ready for a showdown where those agendas don't fully align, but is bound to be interesting when it happens (such as when Olrox appears to stand between Mizrak and Richter in the dungeons).
Also enemies-to-lovers is a very popular trope. And if you haven't heard of people going overseas to get laid um... what rock are you living under? Sudden make-outs/flirting in action stories are also pretty common. Not even getting into the historic appeal of Christian x the vampire as a trope, including opposites attract.
I don't know that I'm biased because after watching the scene they meet for the first time I immediately wanted to write fic where they banged (but held off because I wanted to see the rest of the season and then was pleasantly surprised that the show delivered on it), but that was my literal reaction the first time I saw it.
I do think Nocturne S1 had some feeling of rush on it, likely due to the desire to tell something of a whole story over worries of there not being a season 2 (it was renewed like right after the series was aired), and you can make criticisms of just not getting enough Mizrox, but the elements are there and I'm not sure how someone would miss them, especially if they were looking. And I honestly think it still works just fine as a narrative. Most narratives with a cast of more than 2-4 people are going to be a bit tight in TV format. Arcane also had elements of rush, which is likely due to it only getting 2 seasons.
Anyway, as someone who loves both Cait/Vi and Mizrak/Olrox, they're both good pairings.

Danse has to get homesick In Sanctuary. Like despite being uncertain of how much his past is real including times with the Brotherhood, those memories were home. The Brotherhood was home especially the Prydwen.
No matter all the comfort and the luxuries SoSu could put to make him feel more relaxed or like itā€™s his space itā€™s still not home. Itā€™s so unique to him cause everyone else has a home in a sense. A thing or place they can come and go to as they please while Danse doesnā€™t. He can never go back to the people he considered family and they can never go to him without serious consequences. It doesnā€™t help that (due to his own faults and beliefs) a good majority of the new people in his life do not exactly like him.
Itā€™s so isolating for him as the wasteland is also a different culture in general. Theres so much heā€™s not used to vs what he is. But all in all I think thatā€™s a good thing. I feel as if Danse had a better arc in game it would 100% have him learning or developing a sense of home before a sense of self. I think it gets overlooked that Danse is a person that likes or feels like he needs to belong to something. A cause, a philosophy, a mission. He needs a goal. He must learn to live for himself and his purpose but itā€™s clear he wants to find that through something which is why he latches onto the Sole Survivor after rather than just wander the wastes. He needs something, anything to base a sense of self on at this point in time and who better than the person that opened their home to him in the first place.
Heā€™s a dude that needs a foundation or home to ground himself on or else he doesnā€™t know what to do with himself or even start.
#my persona take it thatā€™s why despite Danse being an ass to the other companions at time SoSu gets it cause they remember when they just#woke up from the vault#like the world was so different and the things they thought were outdated wrong or nonexistent by now#Danse has a long way to go but they know how hard and detrimental it can be to do it by yourself and they know Danse would get better if he#actually learned and lived under not the bigots of steel#cause I put him in sanctuary after and he always stays far from everyone like strong and patrols the edge like heā€™s avoiding everyone or he#is not comfortable there so I imagine heā€™s like getting used to and actually letting it settle heā€™s a synth#his life if he wants to call it that is a lie and th wonky place he felt like he had a purpose now wants him dead#and finds him a disgrace and he certainly does to cause of bos propaganda#like heā€™s racist but the story clearly shows you itā€™s like this is what been enstilled in him cause he can get better that blind betrayal#and before I get someone being like but he only gets better cause he experiences the oppression and like yeah#he got yanked out of a pseudo religious organization with highly conservative views for the setting and was put at thr opposing end despite#all hes done and rhe brotherhoods supposed loyalty to each other doimg nothing tk belp#him and now hes realizing thag if he was a synth and didnt know ans lived a life fully beliving he was human#than maybe the brotherhood was wrong abouy things or at least synths#like hes not gonna change over night and bethany esda certainly does not know how to right charactwr arcs well in this game#fallout#fallout 4#fo4#paladin danse#danse fallout 4#talking about him like i ever side with the brotherhood

Rat Grinders:Donā€™t do anything to the Bad Kids until antagonized, and itā€™s later revealed that their bad actions were a result of being groomed by one of their teachers for years and then murdered and possessed.

i have got to emphasise on the fact that this is huge actually- gay rights in football is something that's just barely discussed. during the world cup in qatar, captains were banned from wearing a one love captain's band because it was too political (it was just a band with a rainbow heart on it), homophobia and racism is practically rooted in the songs sung during matches and there are no out players in the premier league, or more generally, there is only one (1) out player in the top leagues. having a character simply just,, be with another man and also a footballer in the premier league is a huge statement and will hopefully aid in trying to make football a better space.

unpopular opinion but after playing the first 2 fallout games seeing people say the show is "spitting in the face of the classic games" or whatever they're uhhh kinda wrong?? Like I'm not saying there's not plot holes or that its the pinnacle of writing or whatever but acting like they're insulting the first 2 games when (in my opinion) the writing for the show is more reminiscent to the original games than it is compared to 3 or 4 or New Vegas is kinda silly
