Geographical Overview

Gorak Shep is located within the Sagarmatha National Park, home to the Sherpa people, renowned for their skills as guides and mountaineers. It is the final stop on the most common trekking routes to Everest Base Camp from Lukla (2,860 m), following what the Dalai Lama has called “the steps to heaven.”

This route takes trekkers from Lukla to Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Pangboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and finally to Gorak Shep. Most trekkers spend the night there since their trekking permits do not allow them to camp at Everest Base Camp.

Additionally, Gorak Shep serves as the best “launch pad” for the ascent of Kala Patthar, which resembles a giant dune looming over the lakebed. For many trekkers, the summit of Kala Patthar, at 5,550 meters, offers the best views of Everest that most will achieve without a climbing permit, which must be obtained in Kathmandu at the Nepal Mountaineering Association.

The climb begins early in the morning when visibility is usually better. It takes about four hours to reach the summit and return. The hiking time from Gorak Shep to Everest Base Camp ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on the weather, acclimatization, and individual fitness levels.

When to Go

The best times for trekking are in spring (March and April) and autumn (October and November), when mountain visibility is ideal, and temperatures are not excessively cold. However, in autumn, competition for lodging can be intense, though trekkers can usually sleep on the dining room floor.

During winter, from December to February, trekking is possible, but the vast majority of accommodations are closed, trails are snow-covered, and the cold is extreme.

Historical Notes

Gorak Shep was the original Everest Base Camp, used by Swiss climbers during their attempt to scale Everest in 1952. The camp was later moved closer to the mountain, just below the Khumbu Icefall.

Non lontano da Siena e dalle Crete Senesi, tenuta con prestigiosa villa padronale in vendita. Il borgo risalente XVII secolo si compone di vari edifici abitativi adibiti ad agriturismo (20 camere per totali 46 posti letto) e dispone di una cantina di vinificazione moderna. I terreni dell'azienda (10,5 ha) ospitano un vigneto (3,5 ha) e un oliveto (5,0 ha) che producono rispettivamente 26.000 bottiglie di vino e 2.500 kg di olio l'anno.

La proprietà si trova a circa 5' da un paese con tutti i servizi e a circa 11 km da Asciano in Val d'Orcia. La posizione vicina allo svincolo della superstrada permette anche di raggiungere facilmente tutte le città d'arte della Toscana (Siena, Firenze, Montalcino, Arezzo, Cortona, Pienza...).

La villa padronale (1.365 mq, 9 camere e 10 bagni), risalente al XVII secolo, è accessibile tramite un lungo viale alberato e presenta un importante ingresso monumentale. L’edificio è organizzato su quattro piani:

- Piano interrato: cantine storiche per l'invecchiamento (155 mq, collegate tramite un tunnel seminterrato alla nuova cantina di vinificazione.

- Piano terra: loggiato, grande sala ristorante con cucina professionale, reception con punto vendita, orciaia per la conservazione dell’olio, cappella privata e appartamento indipendente (soggiorno con cucina e tre camere con bagno en-suite);

- Piano primo: loggiato, salone centrale con angolo colazioni, cucina dedicata e sei camere con bagno en suite;

- Piano secondo: ampie soffitte abitabili (da ristrutturare).

Accanto alla casa si trovano poi la nuova cantina (210 mq, costruita sotto all'agriturismo menzionato sotto) con locali di vinificazione e magazzino per lo stoccaggio e una rimessa (165 mq) per i mezzi agricoli e le attrezzature usate nella coltivazione.

Dietro alla villa, una colonica ristrutturata (230 mq, 4 camere e 5 bagni) è strutturata su due piani ed è in buone condizioni ma ulteriormente migliorabile con alcuni interventi di ammodernamento. Al piano terra si trovano, oltre ad alcuni locali tecnici, l'ingresso, uno spazioso soggiorno, la cucina, una camera e due bagni di servizio. Salendo al primo piano si arriva a un disimpegno che conduce poi a un salotto e a tre camere con bagno en-suite.

Accanto alla villa si trova invece l'agriturismo (350 mq, 7 camere e 5 bagni) diviso attualmente in quattro accoglienti appartamenti per gli ospiti, tutti con accesso indipendente:

- App. A (95 mq): soggiorno con cucina, due camere, bagno e soppalco;

- App. B (85 mq): soggiorno con cucina, due camere e bagno;

- App. C (40 mq): soggiorno con cucina, camera e bagno;

- App. D (130 mq): soggiorno con cucina, due camere, due bagni e cabina armadio.

La vecchia limonaia (45 mq) è stata interamente ristrutturata e riconvertita in una graziosa dependance composta di zona giorno con cucina, camera e bagno.

Completano la proprietà un magazzino (30 mq).

In posizione riservata ma facilmente accessibile, si trovano due piscine con solarium (11 × 5 m e 14 × 7 m), ideali per trovare ristoro nelle calde giornate estive.

La proprietà è circondata da 10,5 ha di terreno in totale. Una piccola porzione di bosco (0,6 ha) è corredata da seminativi (1,5 ha) che potrebbero essere usati per impiantare nuovi vigneti o altre colture. L'azienda è condotta con metodo biologico.

L'oliveto (5,0 ha), con piante di varietà tipicamente toscane e locali, produce circa 2.500 kg di olio all'anno che vengono poi stoccati nell'orciaia della villa.

Il vigneto (3,4 ha) è composto di varietà Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah e Sangiovese. Attualmente l'azienda non produce vino in proprio ma vende l'uva (coltivata con metodo biologico) a un produttore locale che si occupa della lavorazione e della vinificazione.

Quando era in attività l'azienda produceva circa 195 hl di vino l'anno, imbottigliandone una parte e vendendo il resto come sfuso. La produzione si concentrava su quattro vini in purezza (con un potenziale per circa 26.000 bottiglie/anno):

- Toscana Rosso IGT: Sangiovese 100%

- Toscana Rosso IGT: Cabernet Sauvignon 100%

- Toscana Rosso IGT: Merlot 100%

- Toscana Rosso IGT: Syrah 100%

Esiste la possibilità di comprare ulteriore terreno (bosco, seminativo e vigneto) e un casolare da ristrutturare (621 mq) che potrebbe essere usato per espandere ulteriormente l'attività ricettiva.

12. Sexuality hc!

Vetrix has always been very gay to me. I always see people with these headcanons of him having a wife or smth but honestly I CANNOT see him with a woman. He’s very unashamedly a boykisser. His kids are all test tube babies, he’d sooner de-transition than willingly sleep with a woman.

Fathershipping, undoubtably. I know Most sub Fans are crazy about scientistshipping (which I do ship, to a lesser scale) but I find Fathershipping cuter. It’s funnier because the dub leans farther into Fathershipping and the sub leans more into scientistshipping. For context in episode 55, when Byron and Kazuma sit by the fire he makes a comment about faker being a good friend, but in the dub it’s changed so that Kazuma talks about how much of a good friend Byron is or smth to that effect. Funny detail I noticed :3

Like. Byron literally ASKS Kazuma to let him go into the portal (where he could’ve presumably died) because he wanted him to be safe instead of him. It takes SO MUCH to want to die for someone. There were also two tents in episode 55. THEY ARE LITERALLY IMPLIED TO HAVE SLEPT TOGETHER AUGHHH

Both metà and mezzo/a have the same meaning = "half", and sometimes times they are interchangeable. But there are situations in which is better to use one and not the other.

For example when talking about time, you don't say "sono le quattro e metà" you say "sono le quattro e mezza". And when you want to talk about your position, you don't say "sono in mezzo alla strada" (=I'm in the middle of the road) but you may say "sono a metà strada" = I'm halfway *to you/to the place you need to go*: remember in fact that "in mezzo a" = in the middle of, while metà = halfway (again when talking about positions).

Let's see these a bit more in detail.

MEZZO/A:

Mezzo as an adjective, usually comes before a noun (of which takes the gender/number: e.g. mezza pagina = half page). It translates as "half" ofc.*

Mezzo as an adverb, becomes a synonym of "a/per metà" = "for/in one half", and usually comes before an adjective or a past participle. Usually being ad averb, it should not change in gender/number, but for reason of speech and sound, we change it nonetheless: e.g. gente mezza matta = people half crazy (should be "gente mezzo matta"). We wouldn't probably use "gente matta per metà" (as this example in particular is basically a fixed expression: essere mezzo/i matti). Another fixed expressionthat could work for both instead could be: uomo a metà = mezzo uomo = half of a man -man for an half- (works as for woman too, but I think this bit is some lyrics in a song)

Mezzo as a noun has the same meaning of "metà" = "half". Usually comes after another noun and it can again be fixed or change in gender/number (it depends, but the concordance is generally most used especially when we talk about time, despite on occasion you may hear "mezzo" anyway): e.g. sono le quattro e mezza/o = it's half past four Mezza (at the feminine) usually lose the last vowel when in front of nouns starting by a vowel (to avoid having two vowels near): e.g. mezz'ora = half an hour (fixed expression) But it can vary: e.g. mezz'età = mezza età = middle aged (around 40-50 years old person) "La mezza", as a noun, is used to refer to 12:30 or 0:30 (half past midday or half past midnight) ofc, context is necessary: "è la mezza" = it's 12:30/0:30 (according on when you say it).

METÀ:

Metà is an adverb (fixed in gender/number) used to define or talk about one of the two equal halves in which something is divided into. e.g. La metà di 10 è 5 = one half of ten is 5. And you cannot use "mezzo/a" here. Another example you can find e.g. during sales is: metà prezzo = half (of the) price. (which again is half of a number, so two equal parts. Fixed expression)

*But, there are occasion in which you can use both mezzo/a and metà in the same way. For example: metà mela = half (of an) apple mezza mela = half (of an) apple mezzo foglio = half (of a) paper metà foglio = half (of a) paper You can use either. It would be like saying "metà della mela" or "metà del foglio" (as if you took one or considered just one, while with "mezzo/a" you don't really consider either. Also metà is more accurate with close-to-perfect-halves, while if the halves aren't as good, it'd be better to use "mezzo/a" but ofc these are only subtle differences we don't even pay attention to, so we use them both in the same way in these situations)

Don't worry if especially this last part is not clear, it's all mostly about practicing and listening to Italian speaking! Rules aren't always so fixed in our language, sadly...

Half-muck day today, which was a nice way to get back into rhythm a bit.

We got there in time to start putting horses out, which was nice. Had to check where some of the horses went but. No new horses, it looks like. Which was kind of a surprise, but it is the middle of show season and all. Lots of people settled in.

Trinity here like smashed his nose into my face and snuffled me for thirty seconds. Then I half-dragged the cowhorse outside; a cat literally sat in the doorway and tempted death by refusing to move but. Trinity is thankfully a nice horse. He also has a bunch of weird cuts on him, but. The one on his chest, at the very least, is from slamming himself through the dutch door to flee from the stall because uh. Teacherlady dumped some bedding in and it was apparently just too much for him. He's a huge panicky beast. Even when I came out and had ointment to put on him he freaked out about said ointment and made it very hard to calm him down and get some on his injuries.

Big dumbo.

We mucked the short half of the barn, which was really fast. That's all we had to do today because one of the girl students is leasing a horse and wants to work as much as possible to earn credit for him.

I got Quattro out and he was. A grump. We had the entire arena to ourselves, though, and like. When I really asked him to he did things, but he was super resistant otherwise. Cantered really nice, though, even if it took him a moment to remember what to do.

But he feels good. I felt really good getting back into things. It was like I'd never left.

I got Q and groomed him for a while, then hung out with him and Quattro at the hay bales, since they were happy to just. Stand and munch on the excess ground hay while partner finished washing off Zara's mucky legs. Lucky boys and girl ended up getting their grain too, so they got quite a feast today.

I was really proud of Quattro, though. A little girl kept coming up and petting him and he was really accepting of it. He's come such a long way, from a shy unsafe horse to a horse that will more than tolerate being touched and who actually enjoys being groomed. I'm proud of him, and how dependable and strong he's become.

I couldn't ask for more from him. He goes above and beyond for me in ways that I truly don't deserve.
