I feel like I've been seeing more and more of fanbases shipping actors who play characters and then acting shocked when the interactions dwindle down or shit hits the fan and you can't deny that these people are uncomfortable around each other.
It's happened with Outer Banks; it's started to happen with TSITP.
I feel like there's a recent influx of fans [it's been going on forever, but it's been coming to a head] that think bullying someone into (a fictional-onscreen meets offscreen) love will ever work.
At the end of the day shipping real people isn't harmless (because 9 times out of 10 it reaches real extreme levels because you can't control what psychos become obsessed to the point of dismissing real boundaries and the monster of it is worse upon growing in masses). You can say they should handle it (yes, to an exent) and create delusions that you know people's feelings but when it's all said and done (if the chemistry goes to shit or your comfort show isn't a source of comfort anymore)...
You're the only one to get metaphorically punched in the gut. You've brought the outcome on yourself and then act like your hands are clean and wanna blame people that you can no longer live out your fantasies, when the truth is......you've soured your own entertainment. That actor doesn't care about your parasociality; they can log out or turn off their comments and never speak to each other again, so you're the only one that gets burned.
People need to stop living in a no-shame world, where your thoughts are always pushed to be normalized and delususions are made out to be self-indulgent fantasies.
Sis face it, your online habits are just weird and your life is sad.
