Hello! So sorry to bother you, I just had a quick question. I’ve been posting on tumblr for a while, but I’ve only ever used it for quick text posts.
However, I’ve recently started writing a lot and wanted to post it on Tumblr, hoping to get some more attention than my wattpad has been getting 😅
Despite my efforts, I’m struggling to find a way to customize my Tumblr account and make it a more personal website for writing. Could you possibly give a quick explanation or just some simple tips on customizing Tumblr pages?
Ignore this if you want to, no pressure, I know it’s a kinda strange request 😂
Have a lovely day/afternoon/night! And remember, you’re an incredible writer, and never let anyone convince you otherwise!! ❤️
awww~ you're not bothering me at all, dollface! though, i do apologise for not replying sooner, i was in the middle of exams, you see, and i've finally finished so i have no worries until monday! now, here i am finally replying in full!
firstly, i want to say that i really wish you all the best of luck on your writing! i know it can be hard sometimes but the key is to keep the enjoyment there and you'll be able to go further than you can ever imagine!
personally, making the move from wattpad to tumblr was great for me seeing as i could better interact with my lovely readers much better and have them become another main reason for me to continue writing, i hope it's the same for you - it's always great to have a wonderful community supporting you
and this isn't a strange request at all! customising my tumblr page is always fun and being able to decorate posts and have input in how my content is viewed by others brings about a unique type of satisfaction, you know?
anywho~ there are 2 ways in which you can customise your tumblr and that is through your blog theme as well as through your individual posts.
but first! you must decide what your aesthetic is, the easiest way to do this is to draw inspiration from pinterest! first pick out your colour scheme (e.g mine is centred around that vibrant green you see) and then pick out what running theme you want to have and stick to it throughout your blog posts (e.g my theme is green and shoujo manga, nothing too complicated)
you can get even more creative by making an atmosphere that can centre around a concept that makes reading your work fun for your readers! e.g i remember that some really creative bloggers and writers have stuck with a cafe theme, where they name their master lists/links after cafe themed things and make requesting for fics seem like you're ordering your favourite drink at a real cafe, i'll tag some good blog inspos for you, ranging from simple but aesthetic themes that are easy to navigate all the way to ones that get really creative and makes you excited to read their work - all of them also have great writing that i highly recommend you read through but be careful since some do write mature content. if you're a minor don't interact with those posts please - simply see what they have going on and draw inspiration from what you think looks good!
@maitani ; @manjiroro ; @sakusins ; @manjiroia ; @tteokdoroki ; @sukunababy
are just a few of the amazing writers with aesthetic blogs on tumblr, reading their amazing work with their added aesthetics really satisfies that itch, y'know? i try to emulate that in my work too but i don't believe i'm there yet - you and i can get there some day, though, i'm sure!
now that you've done that, it's time so specify themes and blog posts.
your theme is essentially, how others see your domain/tumblr blog on their desktop, if you want a different theme to the default tumblr theme you're given, i suggest going to @theme-hunter they reblog theme codes created by other people that you can apply to your tumblr blog and adjust to fit your aesthetic! here's a really good guide you can follow to help you out. it's kinda hard for me to explain but i promise that once you get started and do your careful tweaking here and there, you'll get the hand of it eventually! just be sure to follow the requirements of those who made created the theme code free for you to use, they usually have a sort of stamp in their code saying that the theme you're using is made by them and ask that you don't erase it from their code - which is only fair, yes?
with blog posts, its easy to get aesthetic pictures from pinterest that follow your theme but if you wanna edit manga panels like me, you can always use an editor app like canva or procreate to help you out, i personally use procreate to make mine green! it's also really handy to have a divider, it's those one colour lines that help divide up your written posts. it's a small touch but they help continue your aesthetic and theme in a subtle way, the dimensions i use for my dividers are 540 x 2px
for those pictures, you can make a banner using that editing app, the dimensions i use are 2384 x 462px (i got those dimensions via experimenting on procreate and seeing how it looks on a tumblr post preview - you can always do your own experimentation and see what dimensions you prefer!)
if you wanna do the three pictures banner thing i've done for my bulletin, all you have to do is make sure those pictures are all squares (or just the same shapes in dimensions but squares work the best), upload the three you want and then simply drag and drop them next to each other, following the blue line indicating where they should go!
that's all i can cover at the top of my head but if you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask me and i'll do my best to help you out!
good luck once again! you've got this; i'm cheering for you - tell me how it goes! and if you're comfortable enough with showing me, i'd love to see how your blog aesthetic/theme comes out! of course, if you aren't comfortable, don't feel pressured to!
