No, yeah, you're completely right. I actually deleted a further response because it was flirting too much with the implication that poor people anywhere are actively participating in the systemic oppression of the global south outside of, as you said, their voting habits.
honestly their argument falls apart even further, because it would then technically still be an admission that tmascs--assuming they have it easier, which is not a fair or true generalization to make--are not the people tfems need to be worried about, generally speaking. the privilege of, like, water that doesn't have cholera in it and walmart and cheap junky fast food being available to some people more so than others is not at all the same as, say, someone owning an emerald mine in apartheid south africa. but that's still an incredibly bad faith take on the experiences of trans men, and a comparison so utterly ignorant it's barely worth engaging with to start (yet here i am).
idk. it's really hard to map the human experience onto a black and white scale of "bad" to "good" even with really basic things. i don't want to dig super far into that because i am capital W White, from the US, and poor but not even close to living on the streets poor. like, we've had to downsize a lot and we struggle to buy gas and groceries sometimes but it's never that we can't make ends meet, and both my parents have had their own parents to fall back on for financial aid when things get super dire. so I'm personally familiar with neither experience of poverty.
the point of my original post was just to point out the absurdity of the comparison, but yeah. i definitely could have worded it better from the get-go. we live and learn 🤙
i honestly think that anyone who earnestly compares transandrophobia/anti transmasculinity/tme/a discourse to racism/global imperialism needs to shut the fuck up forever. no, tme/tma discourse is not "like poor people from the imperial core refusing to accept that they are more privileged than poor people from the global south." do you understand how stupid you sound? you're doing "trans women are the black people of the trans community" and acting like that's not widely understood to be obscenely offensive.
trans men do not hold any real, tangible, material privilege over trans women the way people from western imperialist countries have power over the countries they COLONIZED FOR CENTURIES. YOU SOUND FUCKING STUPID!!
