Might be showing my age a little bit here, but did any of you guys also play Super Princess Peach on the DS when you were kids? It was one of my favorite DS games when I was younger, and the impending release of Princess Peach Showtime has gotten me thinking about it again. I still have my cartridge for it, and I also still have the original case and instruction booklet that came with it.
Even after all these years it still works too! Canât believe that this game is almost twenty years old!
#text post#not Kirby#Iâm going to be really sad if Princess Peach Showtime ends up being bad#I donât want to have waited almost two decades for another Peach game only for it to be terrible#I loved Super Princess Peach when I was a kid it was one of my favorite DS games#I think it was also one of my first DS games#the very first ones I remember playing on my DS are this Nintendogs New Super Mario Bros DS and Sonic Rush#I also played Kirby Squeak Squad and Super Star Ultra a lot as a kid Squeak Squad was my first Kirby game#I know people tend to not like Squeak Squad that much in the fandom but I like it even if the whole cake storyline is kind of silly#I played it so much as a kid that I think the soundtrack is permanently embedded into my brain lmao#I have a lot of nostalgia for the DS as a console and also for the Wii#those were like the two main consoles I played games on as a kid they were a big part of my childhood#I have a lot of happy memories of playing games on these consoles they both had a really good selection of games#not sure if anyone else gets this feeling when they revisit games from their childhood#but for me playing through my old childhood games again feels a little like visiting an old friend you havenât seen in a while#thereâs something comforting about it like itâs familiar and it brings back happy memories#Iâm glad that I still have all of my old DS games itâs nice to revisit them now and then

Couple's (questionable) Halloween Costumes ft. Tokyo Debunker
I just got back from an event and had some thoughts idk. This is not in any particular order, just whoever came to mind first.
Towa- Bee and Beekeeper. His chibi is already a bee, he'd probably find it cute to see you dressed up like one too. Haru is the one who suggests his jumpsuit already looks a bit like a beekeeper suit, all he'd need to do is get a hat. Towa loves romance, so he'd probably be one of the only ghouls actually interested in dressing up with you 10/10.
Sho- Mario and Princess Peach, except he's the princess because he made the mistake of telling you that Leo always makes him be the girl. You really want to play this game, senpai? Fine. He'll hate every second of it but it is just the littlest bit worth it to see you squirm at how good he looks in a dress. Somewhat. He'd rather make you squirm someway else ???/10
Luca- Jedidiah and Octavius (from night at the museum). He sort of ruins it because he doesn't understand the reference and spends the night talking at length about Roman history. Which is nice if you are into that but extremely boring if not 6/10.
Kaito- Ketchup and Mustard. He also sort of ruins it; doing something this classically coupley with you makes him delirious with happiness and he has a stroke before you can make your way to the party. Salvages the night by baking Halloween themed cupcakes, you have a nice little date decorating them and no one has to see you two embarrass yourselves in public 7/10.
Haru- Cow and the Moon. He... does not have the best fashion sense if his cards are anything to go by, and hey this cow costume he got for (insert total rip off price here) will totally help him promote the back to nature tour! You dressing up as the moon was supposed to be a cute gimmick thing to play off the old nursery rhyme, he wasn't expecting you to put together such an ethereal outfit. Completely forgets about promoting the tour in favor of being cute with you all night, he's totally willing to do this again 9/10 (don't let him choose the costumes next time).
Rui- Moth and Lamp. He wants to do Gomez and Morticia, but the torture of not being able to touch you is already too much to bear as is, he isn't about to make it worse for himself. This way he can still be free to tend bar and make a bunch of cheesy "jokes" about you being the light of his life. Moths sort of fit the Obscuary theme anyway so it's a perfect costume, 10/10.
Haku- Howl and Sofie. He wants a costume that will give him an excuse to flirt with you and will make it very very clear just who you are leaving this party with. Haku probably thinks he'd look really good in Howl's outfit and you know what? He's right. Just remember to take him seriously when he offers his help removing your clothes this time, inspector 10/10.
Taiga- Ghostface. For exactly the reasons you think kitten don't even bother picking out a costume [redacted]/10.

Euphrasie and the End
A Deep Dive into the Head Housemaiden and her symbolic meaning
Introduction
Spoilers for the whole game, and also the prologue, by the way.
Hello everybody. You may know me from that other post about Euphrasie or maybe the ludonarrative essay or the QOL one. No matter the case, today I return to my favorite side character, Euphrasie, the Head Housemaiden.
This all starts with a central thesis you're likely to be familiar with.
Euphrasie represents the end. In the most literal sense, she is where every journey ends. She is the representation of Siffrin's fears. With every repetition, Siffrin grows to dread and fear the sight of her, more than they ever do facing down the King again.
And I want to look at that.
The Damsel
It's a tale as old as time. The big bad has kidnapped the lovely princess! Everyone, we must save her! And so, our epic tale begins, as Mario chases after Peach and Link vows to return and save Zelda -
That, quite obviously, is Euphrasie. Albeit not your traditional princess, she's still a female figure with great importance to our protagonist. (Our protagonist, quite obviously, being Mirabelle.)
Mirabelle's entire journey begins with her fleeing the House and embarking on an adventure with one goal - return home, and free everyone. ISAT invokes many many many stereotypical RPG tropes.
It uses those tropes by going, well, you know how the story goes, let's get right into the meat of it, yeah? Because ISAT is a story that only works on the precipice of an ending. It's the last dungeon! We're back in starter town, transformed by the big bad, and now we gotta take it back. (Like, do I have to invoke Ocarina of Time, or something? You know how it goes, you've seen this story before.)
Siffrin isn't afraid of the journey, the intro makes that blatantly clear all on its own. This entire journey is, quite literally, the happiest Siffrin can ever remember being.
He doesn't want it to end.
The story ends when you save the damsel. She will reward the heroes (usually with a kiss, but this time with a hug), thank them for their efforts, and then the credits roll. If we want to stay here and be pedantic, we can pull examples out of our hats all day for this trope as old as time.
Euphrasie is the end, not just within the context of the game's individual story, but for its type of story. Pretty woman, trapped by the bad guy, last person to be saved, emotional importance to the protagonist, dramatically awaits the rescue by her dashing protagonist after giving her the magic ocarina blessing to give Mirabelle her Special Protagonist Power that makes her super special and immune to the bad guy.
Euphrasie also gets the addition of being the wise mentor, combining tropes a bit, though I don't think it's uncommon for mentor figures to be the kidnappees either, even if the example I'm thinking of first is Eyvel from Thracia 776. (And you see once again, that I am incapable of thinking outside of Fire Emblem comparisons.)
So, simply from her role alone, we expect her to be the story's natural conclusion, but the setting helps that point, too. It's the rooftop of the final dungeon. Very obvious location, yeah?
The game's structure also builds anticipation into meeting her. Here and there, you hear about her from Mirabelle. And, right before facing the King, that's when Mirabelle talks about Euphrasie in-depth, how Euphie should've been the chosen one. We've got a lot of ideas about Euphrasie now, we're thinking about her as we go into the final boss.
And Siffrin dies. Duh.
We're so close to the end, and it's torn away from us. We need to get to it, get to her. Finally get past the King to meet her.
She's the conclusion. And in this moment, she is the goal, too.
Speaking of the King, though --
The True Final Boss
As Siffrin faces the King again and again, they grow less scared. More jaded. If you die to him thrice (or play START AGAIN), you get the option to say "Let's just get right to it", and skip his entire monologue.
After all, you've beaten him once. You can do it again. So who cares about him, yeah? Facing him only gets easier and easier as the game progresses. The King may be scary still in some story aspects, but in gameplay? Not a chance.
ACT 4 doesn't end with him. It ends with her.
As Siffrin faces Euphrasie again and again -
(No, no, no, she could've answered your questions, why?!?)
(Even though you asked for something different at the start of this conversation...)
(WHY IS SHE REPEATING THE EXACT SAME THING?!?)
Siffrin (yelling4): "JUST TALK TO ME!!!
Talking to her again makes her scarier, because Siffrin may have gotten past the King, but he's never gotten past her. For all intents and purposes, Euphrasie is the final boss of the story.
Again, ACT 4 - Siffrin's deepest moment of despair, confirmation of ultimate failure, is her.
Speaking of final bosses...
They both cut a rather striking silhouette, don't they?
Yes, yes, islander theory, white hair. That's an in-universe theory though, but the point is, it does make them look similar. They both have long cascading white hair, they're both extremely tall. They are both similar yet different in appearance.
Euphrasie is rounded where the King is jagged, namely. Soft where he is imposing. But those similarities still remain. Contrasting figures that only enhance the similarities all the more.
(I felt utterly insane for seeing this, but. Do you see it. DO YOU??) (Like. Outside of any theory stuff, her being the only person to have white hair beside King and Siffrin, long white hair to boot, has thematic signifcance as well, yes?)
[Side note: Yes, it is utterly irrelevant here that insertdisc5 said her hair is dyed, because it is STILL a striking resemblance of character design that can be interpreted with symbolic meaning, thank you~)
The trangles.
Though she may overshadow the King as the Endpoint past ACT 2 in ISAT, she does not in START AGAIN.
In START AGAIN, the ending beyond does not exist, for all intents and purposes. The endpoint was pulled forward. Whereas ISAT Siffrin's true dread sets in after beating the King, in SASASAP, it does so in the break room right before facing him.
Or, well, the resignation.
In In Stars and Time:
Siffrin (fake1): "Hi." Siffrin (fake1): "You can start breaking down now." Euphrasie (sorry1): Breaking down...? What do you...
In Start Again:
(You wonder how everyone will die this time.) (Will the King beat them with Craft until they are no more?) (Will he freeze them in time, unable to move or breathe for all eternity?) (How will YOU meet your end?) (In blood and stars maybe... In tears and time perhaps...)
The natural acceptance that, (you can look at the title of this again) this is the end. That there is no getting past this. They are both the last obstacle that can never be overcome, between the games.
Hell, just COMPARE SAP's true ending to like, the end of ACT 4.
Siffrin awakens in the meadow. Everything was in vain. Everything was useless.
Siffrin finally, after a thousand loops or even more, beat the King. This is supposed to be the end, but it's not. So, this proves once and for all that there is no escape. They're trapped here forever.
They built it up for so long in their head that all they have to do is beat the King, and then the suffering's over.
And in ACT 4... Siffrin builds it up for so long in their head... All they have to do is ask the Head Housemaiden about Wish Craft. That's it. That's the answer! After that, it's the end! It'll be over! He just needs to do this one thing...
Loop (away1): ...Is that so? But, didn't you already-- Siffrin (unhinged1): "It is so!" Siffrin (unhinged1): "I might be able to break the loop, somehow!" Loop (away1): ... Siffrin (unhinged1): "You know, it might just be that I need to make everyone's wish come true! And everything will be back to normal!" Siffrin (unhinged1): "If I talk to her, she'll know, she'll be able to tell me what to do..." Siffrin (unhinged4): "If I can just talk to her...!"
And is wrong, of course. They wake up in the meadow and despair. So, this proves once and for all that there is no escape. They're trapped here forever.
Siffrin: "Or, or does it mean-- It means--" Siffrin: "It means I'm stuck here for good, aren't I?" Siffrin: "Forever?" Loop: ... Loop: . . . (. . .) Siffrin: (No.) "You think I'm stuck here forever."
It's the exact same mindset with different characters representing the end point. The parallel becomes even more evident in that Siffrin's very last manic shot at victory is the exact thing that proved Loop's failure - supposing that the King is the true end point.
Yet it's also different, in what these two characters represent.
The King is very much a representation of the past. His fate in ACT 5 ultimately proves what it means to refuse to let go - being frozen in time is both a metaphor and very literal. He's stuck in the past, by choice. He could've lived and chosen to embrace Vaugarde and move on, but he didn't.
Y'know, he's a bad end Siffrin, metaphorically (albeit not literally. Narrative mirrors and all.) He's what Siffrin would end up like if they never learned their lesson. If they keep refusing to let go of the past... and embrace the future.
Euphrasie's Agency and lack thereof
To Siffrin, there is no future. They can't conceive of what happens after this journey. So, the character marking the endpoint of the journey, and the start of a new chapter in Siffrin's life, cannot see a future either.
It's... fascinating, to me. How Euphrasie is a vessel of Siffrin's insecurities by force. Siffrin's Wish has taken hold of her. It's using her as a stop, on purpose.
Odile (worried2): Because... Talking to you... Means our journey to save Vaugarde is really over, isn't it? Odile (gimme1): And for you, Siffrin, it also meant all of us going our separate ways, doesn't it? Isabeau (angry1): The very thing the loops were trying to stop...
(Points at my first point about Euphrasie being the Damsel, and thus the natural endpoint of any given RPG. Hey. Hey do you see how obvious this is yet.)
Euphrasie seems to have some sort of ability to feel Wish Craft, or the Universe, or Change, or whatever. She knows what her role in this play is, most of the time. "I can feel it! We both know this! It's all over when you talk to me!"
(IT'S ALL OVER WHEN YOU TALK TO HER.)
What she says mirrors what Siffrin thinks about her. This becomes most obvious only in retrospect, looking once again at the ACT 4 finale.
Euphrasie always says the same thing, because she is the end and the end can neither change nor ever arrive, but she can only say something new in one circumstance.
Siffrin (angry4): (You just wish she would ANSWER YOU!!!!!!) "Now that you know, now that I know, you can fix it!!!" Euphrasie (ending3): . . . Euphrasie (ending3): Fix it?
When Siffrin wishes for her to. Her capability to act in new ways is directly controlled by Siffrin's desire. Since the entire loops are caused by their subconscious desire to stay with everyone, she fulfills the role of keeping everyone together.
Thinking back on what she says...
"I know you thought your quest was over, but it can't be."
Your quest. Yes, quest is also used in a general story context, especially in fantasy, but Quest has long since become a well-established term in video games of all stripes. Sidequests, Main quest, hey, isn't it weird how ISAT refers to all its storylines as quests?
Friendquests being the obvious example. Fetch Quest, Companion Quest, Tutorial Quest, Really? He doesn't need your help with a quest?
But outside of that... I know I just know these terms because of my script wizard activities, but every storyline is a quest. Kingquest. Loopquest. Friendquest.
There's any number of words that could be chosen ("journey" probably being most prominent) and yet she says quest. By using a term inoxerably tied to video games by this point, she's saying "I know you thought the game was over, but it can't be."
And see how the game uses glitched imagery and static to represent everything breaking down, both at the end of every loop, and in ACT 5. This imagery is just confusing and means nothing to the characters, but is very obvious if you are Playing A Game.
The fuzzy static of an old TV, the bars of screen corruption, random symbols in text, the distorted music like a malfunctioning cassette tapeâŠ
If I may be so bold as to harken back to one of my own previous essays... The timeloop is the game.
It all ends when you talk to her. Everything ends when you talk to her. The goddamn game ends when you talk to her for the last time.
I got a bit of track here from the point, which is- her agency.
As we've established, she functions as Siffrin's own stop, on purpose. She can only act independently when Siffrin wishes her to.
And her not doing so is the beginning marker of everything breaking down in ACT 5, as well.
When Mirabelle interrupts her usual greeting speech, Euphrasie reacts differently immediately. She takes a look at Siffrin, diagnoses them with Craft overusage, and says they just need rest.
"But he'll be fine, now that the battle is over."
But, as usual, she can... sense what's happening.
"Every time I've tried to reach out and feel what's happening, I sense... Chaos..." "It feels like something is... Rotting..."
Mirabelle: "...?" Isabeau: "Rotting...?" Euphrasie: "I know you thought your quest was over, but it can't be! Something's broken, something's failing, rotting!"
She even skips back and forwards between all her different lines, everything Siffrin expects of her and has memorized by now, when we've seen that she was acting differently just a moment before.
It's Siffrin's wish kicking in again that marks the final straw once more, their clashing desire to stay in the loop against his desparate will to escape, resulting in Euphrasie being torn between who she actually is (acting new! moving forward!) against what Siffrin needs her to be.
(you're still stuck here) (but isn't it fine?) (eternity is within your grasp)
Mentioning eternity even harkens back both to the King ("I just want eternity.") AND the ACT 4 ending ("To know you'll be trapped for all eternity, Siffrin... I am so sorry!!!").
Again, like, Euphrasie's agency being torn from her, falling back into that old pattern, is what marks Siffrin realizing he's been wishing for eternity this entire time. It's written on the wall all over ACT 4.
Like, literally, textually, if you choose to pray to the intact Change God statue in ACT 4, Siffrin's prayer is "(You wish for eternity.)"
Because in the course of all these loops, Siffrin has been denying everyone's agency. Euphrasie is just the most prominent example. In ACT 5, by wishing for eternity, what Siffrin has (accidentally) forced onto Euphrasie all this time, he is trying to force onto everyone.
Whether or not Euphrasie is allowed to be a person is a direct marker of Siffrin's ability to escape the loop. It's only over when she's allowed to be free.
Euphrasie is the first person in the ending to mention going home.
"Finally, you'll all be able to go home!!!"
But in ACT 6, she doesn't. She doesn't mention going home at all. Instead, she tells everyone a new story. One Siffrin's never heard before.
Allowing Euphrasie to be free turns her back into the symbol of change that she's supposed to be. I'm repeating myself, but it truly is her change that is the definite, 100% sure marker that Siffrin is free, too. That the future is here.
Why are circles a symbol of change, anyway?
In me saying, Euphrasie symbolized stagnation, until Siffrin allows her to stand for the future again, it is irony. It is immense irony that the Head Housemaiden of Change Itself turns into a symbol of endings and stagnation through Siffrin's denial.
And, on the topic of irony, I ask you:
When the hell are circles a symbol of change???
You know. Circles. The things that famously represent cycles (wow, wonder if those words are related), repetition, infinity and eternity.
Isn't that weird. Isn't that ironic. The entire symbology of the House of Change is supposed to represent, well, Change, but just amounts to representing cycles (yknow, THE LOOPS. LITERAL TIME CYCLES.) through the recontextualization of Siffrin's experience with them.
Even the Change God doesn't oppose the time loops, instead being excited for how Siffrin changes as everything else stays the same.
The circle symbol is a witty act of irony from a design standpoint, and one I must only applaud, because why the hell didn't I see that sooner.
No, like, for real. If anybody knows some real life religion or culture where circles represent change and new beginnings instead of revolutions or the turn of seasons or the cycle of life and all that stuff. Please do tell me about it? I'm not omnipotent.
But generally, the irony of Euphrasie carries forward into the irony of the Change religion as in-universe these are symbols of change, but out of universe, to us, the players, they're symbols of repetition. Just like how to everybody else Euphie is a change, but to Siffrin she is stagnation. (Re: my other essay where I compare Siffrin to a video game player and the timeloops to a video game and I go on a whole metanarrative tangent.)
This plays into the metanarrative! Making meaning to the characters and to us incongruent! And it's cool as fuck, what can I say.
To cap off, let's compare what she says in every normal loop, and ACT 6, won't we?
Euphrasie (smiling4): Finally, you'll all be able to go home!!! Euphrasie (smiling3): If there's anything the House of Dormont can do to thank you... Please do not hesitate. Euphrasie (thankyou1): But for now... Bask in the feeling of a job well done!!!
And, in ACT 6âŠ.
Euphrasie (smiling2): I'm sure you must have a lot to talk about with everyone. Euphrasie (smiling1): But be sure to talk to me when you're all done! Euphrasie (smiling4): So I can happily bless you and your companions' new journey!!!
A Plain Ol' Euphrasie Character Analysis
Heyo, that finishes my essay on Euphrasie's symbolic meaning about narrative and shit! But...
It feels kind of mean, to write so much about what her agency and lack thereof represent, without actually talking about who she is. I didn't mention that a lot, see, because it's not important. Because that part's not important to Siffrin, because during the timeloops, Siffrin doesn't see her as a person.
So. Let's talk about her! Who is she? What is she like? What does she do?
Personality
The Good and the Funny
She's really funny. I mean it. Generally, she loves to joke around, and she has this ojou-sama style "Ohoho~" laugh that I find utterly delightful.
Siffrin (tired2): "But you might know something about--" Euphrasie (smiling4): Ohohoho! Euphrasie (smiling4): Sorry, I know nothing until you talk to your friends! Euphrasie (smiling3): And quite honestly, it is a little funny to see you get steamed about this, ohoho!
So many things in this bit. This is from when you try to talk to her before all the others in a regular loop. The reason she doesn't talk back first is of course because of the whole Agency thing (see above), but also, it's funny for her to take the piss.
Yet her wanting Siffrin to talk to everyone else first also shows that she's a very considerate person! This is The Saviours' Big Moment, and she is dying to talk to Mirabelle's new friends, but she doesn't want to take away from that. She's gonna give them her moment, and only butt in once all the hugs and tears and cheers have been had.
You can see this in ACT 5, too. She doesn't pass out or anything when Siffrin smacks her away, she just recognizes that her presence is upsetting to Siffrin, she doesn't know them or their problems, so she's gonna step back and let them figure it out themselves.
Euphrasie (smiling4): Ohohoho! Don't worry about me, everyone! Mirabelle (awawa1): H-Head Housemaiden! You're okay!!! Euphrasie (smiling3): I am! I was staying away for a little bit. Euphrasie (thankyou1): You all seemed like you needed to talk, so I was patiently waiting for you all to finish your conversation! Bonnie (serious1): That's very considerate of you. Isabeau (hahaha1): It IS very considerate of you!
She even during the hand holding scene is SO considerate that she doesn't speak up and include herself until Odile asks her to join in. Which might be a bit much, actually.
Odile (lol2): Fine. Let's hold hands, then. (Odile takes Bonnie's hand.) Odile (yeah1): Head Housemaiden? Euphrasie (thankyou1): Oh! Yes, of course!
That lil "Oh!" showing she's surprised to be adressed and included in this conversation.
Anyways, the previous exchange also gives us two OTHER delightful facts about her.
Euphrasie (smiling3): I haven't had this much fun since reading the last issue of "The Cursing of ChĂąteau Castle"!!!
Meaning:
She's a bit of an adrenaline junkie, and considers getting slapped across the room "fun"
The coveted last issue of Cursing of Chateau Castle in the pottery room is hers.
Delightful woman. I love her.
She's also pretty frank! She talks a lot in snappy phrases and witticisms. She's kind and patient, for one, but really not afraid to mince words.
Euphrasie (smiling4): I thought we all knew that the Change God is a pretty lazy deity! Bonnie (wait1): Wow... Odile (urgh1): Isn't that a sacrilegious thing to say...?
Really makes me like her all the more that secondhand, she comes across as graceful, larger than life, almost, and then she simply doesn't care all that much about propriety and what someone of her station is actually supposed to be like. It really fits in with the Change Belief and the ethos of being true to yourself that she doesn't bend herself like that.
I'll also continue to be delighted that she described the King defeating her as knowing that "[she] was toast", just, she's just so casual.
Guilt and Responsibility
In more serious matters. The guilttttttt.
Yeah, she's casual, but she still obviously puts a lot of focus on her responsibility to the people of the House, of Dormont. We know that she was preparing for the King to arrive. She was studying Wish Craft, she was contemplating counter measures. She was making charts of who wished what to figure out whether this could stop him.
(...The Head Housemaiden...) (She's the one who wrote this. She knows about Wish Craft.) (She knew something was wrong, this whole time.) (She might know... How to...)
There's a degree of paranoia evident that we don't see in any of her time onscreen, but you can wonder what it says about a woman to have a deadly rock trap in front of her office.
AND she doesn't have her key out in the open, she has it taped to the underside of her desk drawer. Not an infallible hiding spot, but still hidden, and not just stored.
The other people in the House were all also revealed to be the ones locking doors in the party's path, hoping that it would stop the King.
Bonnie (sad1): . . .You know, I was wondering... Bonnie (sulk2): Like, the King clearly closed this door, and put the Tears in our way... Bonnie (sad1): But the... But the locked doors, weren't they... Mirabelle (sad2): ... Odile (dotdotdot2): Yes... We were wrong. Odile (dotdotdot1): They were most likely locked by residents of the House.
Speaking of people hoping to stop the King, she has a mountain of notes on him in her office as well.
(Some notes about the King.) (The Head Housemaiden must've been looking for more information about him...)
She hid her key, trapped her door, and before that, gathered information on the King and how to counter him. So, let me ask, do you think she improvised her blessing?
Mirabelle (excited1): She's also a great Crafter! She always creates wonderful items that makes everyone's lives easer! Mirabelle (awkward2): She taught me so much... Most of the Craft skills I know, I learned from her.
She's a skilled Crafter to boot, eh?
Looking at this, I don't really think so. Beneath that jolly front, she is a logical and pragmatic woman. Looking at her ability to specifically counter the King's Curse in context of how much we know she prepared for his arrival, I believe she prepped this blessing beforehand. Whether she actually finished it, I don't know, but she had to pick Mirabelle as a subject for it quickly and under duress.
Mirabelle wasn't the ideal choice. She was the logical choice.
Euphrasie (smiling3): Well, I only had the strength to bless one person, and I was already toast, and you were almost out of the House when the King attacked... Euphrasie (smiling3): So, really, you were the only logical choice!
There are some more emotional reasons for the pick, which I'll go into later when talking about Mira, but, still. She mentions this first, before going into Mirabelle's virtues as a person.
Plus, Claude (who will also get a section later), is the person closest to the King and Euphie. She's got the Secret Ingredient for the bomb on her, and had obviously been working on making a Craft Bomb beforehand, as discovered by the gizmo gadget in her room.
Combined, we can surmise that Euphie and Claude were both making different preparations to counter the King, with Euphie focusing on Craft both by studying Wish Craft and working on a Craft to nullify the King's Curse, whereas Claude just worked on a bomb to blow him the fuck up.
Euphrasie was, simply put, working to protect the people she cared for. It's her responsibility.
And she failed.
LET'S TALK ABOUT HER GUILT!!! WOOOO!!!!
When you talk to the people in Dormont during Loopquest, some of them mention the Head Housemaiden also asking them about their wishes, but none of them know why. This implies that Euphrasie was covert in her research, likely not sharing her information either because she was unsure of its verity, or to not cause undue panic. The only other person we see with less than impromptu countermeasures is, after all, literally just Euphrasie's girlfriend, who would be the number one person Euphie would confide in about this stuff.
Even then, though, there is no concrete evidence that she did confide in Claude, outside of Claude preparing the bomb, which is circumstantial at best. Really, did she not have any issues with Siffrin's treatment of her in ACT 5, or did she just swallow it down out of pragmatism?
Can we be sure that it's sincere, when she brushes off Siffrin's worry for her?
Siffrin (US_guilty2): "You said the things you always say when I come and talk to you." Siffrin (US_guilty2): "About how the world is rotting." Siffrin (US_sad1): "And you can't do anything to help." Euphrasie (sorry3): Hm... Euphrasie (smiling4): Interesting! I don't feel like saying it now, though! Euphrasie (smiling1): Or at all! The wind feels nice and fresh. Euphrasie (smiling4): It just feels like a beautiful day, doesn't it?
After all, in the loops themselves... She's the first to notice it, every time. She knows, deep within her bones, that something's wrong, and that it's her fault.
It's especially potent symbolically, that the phrase she never gets to finish is "I hope you can learn to forgive us."
Which is a phrase that received a slight change from its comic counterpart:
"I hope you can learn to forgive me."
Regardless of the me versus us, she, with the most intimate knowledge of Wish Craft right next to the King, directed the people of Vaugarde's wish, and knows that Siffrin ended up as the Wish's subject. She can't know that this is a side effect of Siffrin's wish being entangled with her own, but she does know her own wish is involved.
She starts crying. She's disraught. She breaks down.
Euphrasie (ending2): I can't fix it on my own, not before it all ends... If only I had noticed sooner!!! Euphrasie (ending1): I should've seen it, prevented it!!!
She says that she should have seen this and prevented it. It was her responsibility to do this, and she failed.
Euphrasie (ending2): It's my fault that you have to suffer like this.
Again, she was the only one who knew, the only one who could have ever possibly had any shot of defeating the King before things got too bad. But she fucked up, he stormed in before she could prepare properly, and she squarely lost whatever confrontation might've occured between her and the King.
Euphrasie: Something goes wrong, every time!!! Euphrasie: If you're here now, asking about Wish Craft, then something must be wrong, isn't it? This isn't the first time you've gotten this far, isn't it?!? Euphrasie: It shouldn't be like this... Why does time loop back, even though the King has been defeated?!? Euphrasie: The only answer I can find... Is it's because we did it wrong.
She's responsible, pragmatic to the point of paranoia, and it wasn't enough. Of course she feels guilt. A lot of it. After all, she believes that she personally has doomed someone to eternal stagnation. That she has caused all of Vaugarde to be trapped, and for one person to suffer for it. That she caused all of Siffrin's suffering.
It's so odd to me that she manages to immediately grasp that Siffrin is in a timeloop. It could be Siffrin's wish using her as a mouthpiece, it could be that weird innate connection to the Universe she seems to have, it could be her own immediate deduction on the logic of Wish Craft, or it could be a combination of all three.
But point is, she recognizes Siffrin's looping without having to ever be told about it. And I do not think that goes away, even in ACT 5 & 6. It's just not the time and place for her to speak on her own struggles right now, not when Siffrin is finally getting the help that she cannot provide. Not when she can recognize that she is the conductor of everything that just occured, which, again, nearly broke the entire work.
Euphrasie: If only... If only we had fought back against the King, instead! If only we didn't wish for such a thing! Euphrasie: If only I knew this would happen, if I had noticed it sooner, I would never have let people wish at all!!! Euphrasie: To know you'll be trapped for all eternity, Siffrin... I am so sorry!!! Euphrasie: It's our fault, all of Vaugarde, that you have to suffer like this!!!
She gathered her intel and made her bet. She just made the wrong one.
(Yet what she never seems to recognize is that this had to happen. That without the timeloops, yeah, the King wouldn't have been defeated! The country would have been frozen!)
(But that doesn't mean anything, does it. When she had to take away Change Itself from some innocent bystander.)
Relationships
Anyways in more cheerful news let's look at the two most important people to Euphrasie we know of.
Mirabelle
Mirabelle!! The Meeble!! Euphrasie is super important to Mirabelle, and Mirabelle, in turn, is super important to Euphrasie.
From the third snack break:
Mirabelle (sad2): The Head Housemaiden... She's such a wonderful person. Mirabelle (sad2): She helped me out so much! I couldn't do anything before I came to the House, I could barely sew my own clothes, and she helped me, she taught me... Mirabelle (sad2): I wouldn't be the person I am without her! Mirabelle (sad2): And when the King attacked... âShe protected me. Mirabelle (sad2): Everyone... Everyone was being frozen in time around me... Mirabelle (sad4): And the Head Housemaiden made sure I could escape! Made sure I lived!!! Mirabelle (sad4): She gave me her blessing...!!!
Similarly to some of the other older Housemaidens, Euphrasie had a big part in raising Mirabelle (which does imply some things about Mirabelle's past, but that's not the point right now). We don't know the exact sequence of events for Mirabelle escaping (outside of Mirabelle happening to be closest to the door), but Mirabelle adds some action to Euphrasie during whatever happened, saying Euphrasie "protected her".
From Euphie's office:
Mirabelle (sad2): But the King was too strong, and attacked out of nowhere, and now... I don't know what happened to her. Mirabelle (sad2): When I fled the House... The King might've already... ...
They weren't in the same room, Mirabelle doesn't even know what exactly happened to her, but still says Euphie protected her, and obviously shows great esteem for her all around.
Mirabelle just loves Euphie so much, man!
Euphrasie (sorry3): And, Housemaiden Mirabelle... Euphrasie (smiling1): You have always been the most hardworking Housemaiden in the House. Always striving to learn new things. To better yourself. Euphrasie (smiling2): Always meeting challenges head on, even if you didn't think you'd succeed. Euphrasie (smiling3): You were the only logical choice, yes, but you were also the only RIGHT choice! Mirabelle (sad2): Head Housemaiden... Mirabelle (gentle1): No, Euphrasie... Thank you!!!
Mirabelle credits Euphrasie for the person she is today, but Euphrasie turns that back and gives credit to Mirabelle's own strengths. It's just, very cute. She might have taught Mirabelle her literal skills, but the determination and bravery were all Mirabelle's own.
This scene also demonstrates that the bond goes both ways. Euphie loves Mira right on back, and considers Mira to be "stinking cute!" which even the Change God Themself agrees with. She's so proud of Mira!
I also wanna point to the switch from Mira using Euphie's title, to then using Euphie's name after Euphie reaffirms how proud she is of Mira. Throughout the entire adventure, Mirabelle's unwitting deception (that she had been blessed by the Change God instead of by Euphie) had weighed down on her, and Mirabelle kept questioning why she was the one who had to go on this journey, when Euphrasie would have been so much better at it. Like she stole Euphie's spot.
I think that bled into the relationship, here, that she kept imagining Euphrasie being disappointed in her, so she uses the title to make some distance to that mental image. It shows off how distant and unreachable Euphrasie is.
(It's also just a good show of politeness from Mirabelle. Like, if I'm talking to my mother, I'll call her Mama, but if I am talking about her to someone else, I'll say "my mother", as demonstrated by the first part of this sentence.)
Lastly, really minor thing: apparently, Euphrasie is looking into dual Craft types! That's one of the random papers on her desk.
(It's an essay about the 3.5% of people who are dual Craft types users, like Mirabelle.)
That makes me think she started reading on it because of Mirabelle, which is cute.
Generally, the basis of their relationship is very much mentor-student, yet it goes much deeper than that with Euphrasie's big role in raising Mirabelle. TLDR: they love each other, your honor. Fambly.
Claude
Second on the agenda, Mirabelle's roommate, Claude!
Lookin at Claude. It's obvious they're romantically involved. The first hint is the letter on Euphie's desk, of course, but that could imply this is a recent situation, too.
(It's a lovely, cheesy, mushy love letter from someone named Claude.)
Except, well, no. The letter isn't sealed, otherwise Siffrin wouldn't be able to pick it up and skim it if they had to open it first. It was already open, meaning Euphrasie already read it.
And, in Act 6:
Claude: Okay! We'll come and say hi later, then. I'll need to go and plant a big kiss on Euphie, anyway.
Claude mentions how she has to give Euphie a big kiss, which you wouldn't exactly do with someone you only just confessed to. Meaning the relationship has been ongoing for a while now, and also implying that Claude still writes love letters to Euphie, or that Euphie kept Claude's initial confession on her desk, both options make them big saps, which is really cute.
Also also, Claude's the only one to call Euphie Euphie, an endearing nickname.
I also touched on before how Claude was the only one to also prepare for the King's attack by making the bomb, and...
Mirabelle (sad1): I... used to think she should've become a Defender, because she was always helping people, and trying out weird experiments to solve their problems... Mirabelle (sad2): And she would always, ALWAYS help the Head Housemaiden with hers. Mirabelle (sad2): Always trying new ways to organize her desk... To help her finish tasks... To make sure she'd get some free time... Mirabelle (sad2): She'd do it with a smug smile, saying it wasn't that big of a deal, that she'd do it for anyone, but... Mirabelle (sad2): If she knew that the Head Housemaiden was in danger... She would've ran anywhere, everywhere, so she could help her. Mirabelle (sad2): Not only because the Head Housemaiden would've solved anything, would've beaten the King if she could, but because... Mirabelle (sad3): Because... Mirabelle (sad3): . . . Mirabelle (sad3): If Claude is this far into the House, she must've... tried to stop the King herself, so he wouldn't get to the Head Housemaiden.
Mirabelle trails off on that last "because" concerning Claude's motivation to go rushing to Euphrasie, and I think, considering the love letters, we can guess what that was. It's quite evident from Mirabelle's words that the two are super close. "[t]hat she'd do it for anyone, but... If she knew the Head Housemaiden was in danger... She would've ran anywhere, everywhere, so she could help her."
Mirabelle's framing of it reveals that Claude wouldn't do those things for just anyone. That Euphrasie is special to her.
In both ISAT and SASASAP, Claude is the last frozen NPC you find, the closest to the King. Her bomb wasn't finished, but it's telling that Claude carries the Secret Ingredient on her person. Whatever it is, she probably nabbed it from her room and set out to help Euphrasie in her fight against the King any way she could.
I guess the summary here is more simple, but the devotion on display is amazing. Like, again, the bomb wasn't done, Claude had NO weapons to speak of, but came rushing in anyway, because Euphrasie was in danger. She loves her girlfriend so much!! They're mushy and silly and affectionate, and, if Claude is the one organizing Euphie's desk, did Claude keep her love letter on display just to show off? Again, it's. It's cute! It's a lot of environmental storytelling for an NPC!!
Wah. Clauphie are so cute. We don't see Euphrasie talk about Claude at all (because Euphrasie does have more uhhh pressing things to worry about), but just, from the letter on the desk, it's gotta be reciprocated.
There's just so much to speculate about how things went down when the King "attacked out of nowhere", because Euphrasie is at the top of the House. Even when the King is defeated and the House returns to normal, it's still the roof. So, did she draw him up there on purpose to give everyone else time to escape?
I personally think Euphrasie was probably frozen first, with Claude rushing in second. So she did hold him off as long as she could, and that sacrifice allowed Mirabelle to escape in the first place. Nothing would've been possible without her. Euphie feels so much guilt for what she's done, but Mirabelle and Siffrin would not have suceeded without her, okay. She's instrumental.
Which is less about Claude and more about Euphrasie's importance, but hey, this is my essay, and I can be as uncoordinated as I want.
The Job
Last thing I wanna touch on!! Just a fun lil thing.
What the hell is a Head Housemaiden anyway?
Mirabelle and Isabeau react scandalized at the notion of people sharing shrines, so it seems unlikely that the House functions anything like a church at all. Every Housemaiden has a personalized figure of the Change God that they pray to in private, as we see from Mirabelle talking about them, in addition to basically every room in the House having one, down to people making more in pottery class. So, it's suuuper unlikely that the Head Housemaiden has much of a religious function. Spreading the good word, maybe, but actually leading prayer? No way.
Odile (wonder1): We make shrines for our gods, and everyone shares the shrines. Isabeau (huhwah1): SHARING GODS............
She seems to have a much more logistical function, being more like. The manager of the House. This is a files thing, but the map for her room is actually called "admin". She also has a lot of quote unquote boring administrative papers on her desk that Siffrin doesn't care about. Makes one wonder how the position is selected, whether one is elected into the office, or it's just whoever wants to do the paperwork to keep the House running.
(It looks like boring administrative papers.) (It's a petition to serve more bread at lunch.)
Mirabelle (happy1): She manages the House and makes sure everyone is happy and fulfilled! She organizes a lot of events too!
Among things such as "what to serve at lunch" and "organizing events", she's more like the headmaster of a community college, especially considering how heavy the House just resembles a community center. Less of a religious institution, more just a place to host fun classes and a living space for all who need it.
It's hard to tell whether Euphie demands a lot of respect due to her person and office, or it's just Mirabelle specifically that respects her most, since most of what we know of the House and its people is filtered through Mirabelle's perspective.
Speculation!
It's headcanon time, babey.
Yup, after straying close to actual facts for so long, I wanna get speculative. You're probably already gonna know islander theory. (And if you don't, go read that. This is like, the third time I linked it.)
But I wanna like, talk about how that influences how I read Euphrasie a lot!! I didn't go in-depth with that aspect in the og theory post but you can swear to any god you believe in that I've thought so so much how this enhances other aspects of who she is and stands for and also SHOUTOUT TO OCEAN!!! WHO ALSO THINKS ABOUT THIS SO MUCH!!! And again in fact thought about all of this before I did and is also someone who talk about excessively about this. AND ALSO GOT TO PREVIEW A GOOD CHUNK OF THIS ESSAY and motivated me to finish this eheh.
Anways! I wanna circle back to some points here first!
That whole past vs future thing
You might recall how I compared Euphie and the King a lot, esp between their respective roles in ISAT and SASASAP being pretty identical. And I said the King represents the past, as he is literally frozen in time, choosing to remember what he has lost instead of living in the present, and Euphrasie represents the future, which can only arrive when she is permitted to be her own person!
So yeah, uh, how's that feel when you suppose that they're from the same country, and thus, suffered the same loss.
Reading Euphrasie with this HC in mind opens up a very neat second parallel to Siffrin. King is someone who can't let go of the country, and Siffrin is torn between not wanting to let go and knowing they have to. So to put them up against someone who has let go is just pretty nifty.
Euphrasie is content with her life and the culture she lives in, even being a pillar of the community! Whereas King is a 'bad end' counterpart, Euphie, in her Showing The Future Function, is the 'good end' counterpart for that, showing that someone in Siffrin's situation can overcome their grief and find new fulfillment.
The End
So! That's everything I got on Euphrasie! She represents The End, but just as you gotta break an egg to make an omelette, she represents new beginnings, too. Her agency and freedom are change itself.
Mirabelle (hm3): It's to remind us that before changing, we must stop and think about what will be irreparably destroyed. Mirabelle (hm1): But destruction is just a part of change, and we must accept it... Isabeau (brag1): Yeah! It'd be awful to keep yourself from becoming a person you feel comfortable with just because it would upset someone else. Odile (huh1): Huh... That's a harsher belief than I thought.
In conclusion, I love her. This has been 7.4k words. Good night!

+ nagi seishiro x f!reader | wc 3.2k | content: fluff, ngl i was too lazy to proof this, childhood friends to lovers, canon-compliant (i tried), ynâs parents are just bad
notes: me ?? writing someone other than sae ?? wild . but itâs my first try at nagi so pls have mercy :â) feedbacks/reblogs appreciated !! <3
summary: itâs a little more difficult for nagi to realise his feelings compared to the average man.
i. fleeting moment
nagi seishiro was your first kiss, age ten on the swings of your backyard.
youâre only friends by chance. he was a loner on the swings in the public playground and you have a habit of picking up strays. (but until then, it had been limited to animals and not humans.)
yeah, yeah, maybe having a first kiss at the young age of ten is a little alarming, but itâs not like nagi is a bad person. if anything, he was just trying to shut you up. probably, maybe. (and it wasnât with tongue, if anyone needs the specifics.)
âif you keep crying that loudly i wonât be able to hear my game,â nagi grumbled, eyes glued to his screen. apparently he was playing some pseudo horror game where four fighters run from a single hunter and apparently he needed to listen to the sounds to know when to run.
but really, you were ten and crying because some other boy bullied you in the playground, saying how you were so ugly and that no boy would ever wanna kiss you. given all of that, why would you even care about nagiâs stupid game?
if he didnât want to be bothered, he shouldnât have chased you all the way back home.
âbut seishiro, am i really ugly?â you were ten and in need of immediate validation while nagi was in need of your immediate silence.
he didnât even look up. âthatâs subjective.â
even when he was young he had a smart mouth that would be able to break you.
âwell then what do you think?â because honestly, even at that point, you thought nagi seishiro was handsome; he was the face claim you used to imagine all your scenarios at night before you went to sleep.
he was your knight in shining armor, coming to break you free from the cage which was your life and obligations. he was your prince charming whoâd rescue you above all else. heck, sometimes he was mario and you were princess peach.
seishiro groaned when the screen shows game over and honestly, he really did think it was all your fault because he couldnât hear anything over your incessant wailing. but then he looked at you for the first time after you cried and had the recurring thought that he didnât want to be the reason for you to keep on crying.
âyeah, youâre pretty.â
and he puts his lips on yours like itâs no big deal.
ii. unreciprocated
fifteen is when youâre most rebellious. itâs a sickness you get from none other than mikage reo.
your family and the mikages go way back. theyâd been family friends for such a long time. a part of you feels itâs not genuine, blinded by the fact that theyâre always business partners and everything else stemmed from that one simple fact.
you started to play hooky from business dinners, started to say fuck off to rude old geasers who truly didnât deserve a single dime they got.
all you ever got in return was your fatherâs temper and your motherâs cowardice and reoâs praises. most of all you at least had nagiâs shoulder to cry on. (heâs learned to bring along his earpiece just in case he had to meet you or accidentally bumped into you.)
âthey all sicken me,â was what reo told you when you asked about his family in relation to their business. you could sympathise. sometimes all you could feel from your parents were that they treated you as a next-in-line rather than just daughter. and almost everyone around you made you feel like you were just a moneybag.
what reo felt shouldnât have been too far off. except you thought he had it better; at least all his parents did was try to spoil him while not-so-subtly training him up to be the next ceo. he at least didnât suffer at the hands of foul tempers and verbal abuse.
no one should have to.
âoh shit! i gotta go soon,â you realised, noticing that it was almost six and youâd made plans with nagi.
reo cocked a brow, ây/n l/n, you have other friends?â
you knew he was joking, but that didnât stop you from landing the hardest punch you could on his arms. âhey, iâm not that inept at socialising okay?â
sure, youâd started taking caution with making friends because most of them were just after one thing: money. even at this age. which is crazy to you, at least, but you felt you had no right to think that. not when all the money you wanted was still at your disposal.
but you werenât actually bad at making friends. it was just that maybe most people werenât even worth the effort.
âtheyâre good to you, right?â
you took a moment to decide before you eventually nodded. âyeah, for sure.â
nagi was⊠weird, for you. but in the good sense. yeah, heâd open his mouth and ask you for money which at least told you he was honest. even if you rejected him, though, he was still beside you.
âman, what a hassle,â he grumbled when you wouldnât buy any more food. he was broke, which meant he couldnât eat anymore too if you didnât buy some.
the two of you still never talked about that kiss. it never happened again, to your dismay.
you were a teen, and screw stupid teen hormones for driving you to ask him.
âhey sei, weâre good friends, right?â
âhuh?â nagi was already fixated on his phone. probably some new game you didnât know about. his earpieces were ready, around his neck. âuh, i guess?â
but that was not good enough for your feisty fifteen-year-old self.
âsei, iâm serious! would you be sad if one day we werenât friends anymore?â
back then you didnât know what you were doing. back then you didnât think to yourself what it was, really, that you were trying to get out of him. maybe it was validation, and maybe it was just boredom.
you really just wanted to know nagi cared.
all he did was shrug, brows furrowed in annoyance. âthatâs life, isnât it? sometimes friends drift and sometimes they donât.â
throwing wisdom around as if that was what you needed. and it was unfair to expect anything out of nagi as it was, but that didnât stop you from throwing a tantrum and storming off.
(he watched you as you left, and there was something unsettling about the sight of your back moving so far away.)
iii. turning point
the world is small.
when you were sixteen you realised that the so called treasure reo told you he found was a human, who so happened to be your friendânagi seishiro.
teeny tiny.
they also both happened to be picked by the JFU to go to blue lock. which you only found out after theyâd both been gone for a week.
it didnât surprise you thoughâthey were both talented. it was only right they got picked. though, they also happened to be the only two people you would hang out with, so by default you felt lonely.
but at sixteen youâd learned to suck it up, hide your feelings. everything was okayâas long as you deceived yourself so. your parents were the same; overbearing and breathing down your neck and now that reo was not around for you and nagi couldnât be your confidant, it felt much worse than usual.
everything was a transaction and you felt suffocated. it made you appreciate nagiâs unfiltered honesty and reoâs unwavering loyalty to whatever you dedicated yourself to.
âat least that reo boy has some other talents like that foolish soccer he plays,â your father berated over dinner. âand here my daughter is, good for nothing yet expects us to believe her when she says she can make a living outside of our company.â
and if youâd had other close friends, they wouldâve told you that sixteen was too young to be sure what you wanted to do for the rest of your life. theyâd have said your parents were unreasonable and that they were the fools.
but you didnât. and the only friends you had werenât around. so you ate it up. you clenched your fists where your parents couldnât see and let them run their mouth. or, in your motherâs case, stay silent while your father made unreasonable arguments.
âand that nagi boy you hang out with,â your father turned his focus to him, âall he reeks of is laziness. i donât get why you have to hang out with him all the time. inviting that oaf into our house like heâs welcome.â
that time your fists hit the table and you didnât even expect it. it hurt because of how hard you hit but nothing could beat the hurt your father inflicted on your heart.
you found you couldnât say anything, only because your fatherâs eyes were wide with rage at your outburst and you were still the same scared girl inside at age four when he first raised his voice at you.
âi-iâm sorry,â you choked out, which was pathetic but you didnât want to end up murdered in your own house.
your father scoffed. âget your stupid head out of your ass or youâre cut off.â
the only time you could do that was when nagi and reo finally got their first break out of blue lock. you occupied their time for the most of it, listened to them going on and on about the matches that went on inside. though reo seemed a little mad at nagi, a little awkward around him, for some reason you werenât privy to.
âiâm gonna head home first,â and reo was gone with the wave of a hand, something about having to settle something at homeâprobably nothing good.
maybe it was the lovestruck idiot in you talking, but youâd made peace with the fact that maybe you had a small crush on nagi seishiro, judging by how you acted around him. maybe it was that idiot that made you want to spend all of his free time together.
âguess iâll see you tomorrow too?â sue you, you were just trying to shoot your shot.
nagi put his phone in his pocket, for once, and you were struggling to remain standing as he held eye contact with you, calm gray eyes the bane of your existence. âmmm canât, gotta meet isagi and the rest.â
isagi, a name youâd just learned earlierâapparently nagi thought he was strong and chose his team. maybe that was why reo was mad.
âoh, okay then.â youâd ask for the next day, but you didnât want to get rejected twice. besides, nagi would probably just prefer playing games and resting at home. you were just friends, after all.
âwas thinking we could get dinner though,â nagi told you, hands in his pockets as the both of you walked down the street.
that was the first time he ever extended an effort, you remember. and suddenly life wasnât that bad anymore.
it was also the first time nagi asked you to feed him, not because he was playing some game but on purpose.
and you didnât know how it turned out that way, but he ended up taking up all of your time. it was the only reason you had the ability to fill him in on your family, and he actually listened. and, like reo, he said âfuck them.â
maybe that was the point you realised maybe he did care.
but for a girl at seventeen just concerned with romance and happiness, it was paradiseâuntil of course he went back to blue lock, taking your heart with him.
(what you both failed to realise was that he left his with you.)
iv. slow realisation
in the bleachers of his first match out of blue lock, nagi seishiro spots you easily in the front rowâwearing his jersey and number, when did you buy that?
doesnât change the fact that nagi likes seeing it on you. heâs not familiar with the feeling, but itâs equivalent to saying you like him the most, which feels great if heâs honest to himself.
what he doesnât like is the guy next to you. sharp jawline and spiky hair wearing a business suit and his raven eyes are always peeking at you out of the corner. does he like you?
but the whistle blows and nagi forgets about you for a little over ninety minutes. heâs going to show you he can win this, with you watching from the front row, and heâll show you why heâs the best and that other guys in business suits donât matter.
after the game reo makes a big deal out of the fact youâre wearing nagiâs jersey and not his, and nagi finds out the guy with you was someone your dad wanted to hook you up with.
twisted business marriages.
âiâm just going out with him to shut my father up,â you admit to nagi when youâre both finally alone. (aka, after youâve convinced reo to pry him away and leave you two alone.)
nagiâs not used to this. whatâs this relief he feels? âoh, good to know,â is all he says because he doesnât even understand himself.
he isnât even sure why heâs here in the first place, walking you home. heâs not sure why reo left when he couldâve driven all of you home instead of just mr business-suit-guy.
âhowâs it feel now, to be mr popular?â youâre not even sure why youâre asking. maybe because you feel like the gap between you and nagi grew so wide in such a short period of time and youâd do anything to hear him say that heâs still the same seishiro you knew.
your seishiro.
nagi only shrugs, âdunno. donât really feel the difference.â
because really, apart from the fact that heâs much more busy, heâs still himâplaying games when heâs free, texting you because that happens to fall in the list of things he likes to do now, and well, the only difference he feels isâhe takes a peek to his sideâyou, somehow.
not because of anything you do in particular, but he feels different somehow. and he canât make sense of it. he never can. howâs he supposed to? no one ever warned him about shit like this.
âuh, nagi? have you ever thought that maybe you like her?â reo tells him over the phone later that night, a little baffled by the things his usually detached friend just told him.
âyou like her too though,â nagi retorts.
reo sighs, wondering how nagi ever made it to where he is. ânot in the same way.â
âwhat do you mean?â
âfigure it out yourself.â
nagi hangs up, thinking he already has it figured out. he also thinks reo will keep his mouth shut.
he doesnât.
v. requited
itâs funny how reo rushed to call you that night, right after nagi basically told him (without saying it explicitly) that he has a crush on you.
but itâs also funny how itâs been three months since then and nagi still hasnât said anything about it. you play ignorant around him, waiting and waiting for him to admit it himself.
evidently itâs not working.
tonight youâre just watching him on the screen, cheering him on from the other side of the world because despite being from a rich family you canât just up and leave to another country as and when you feel like it.
besides, youâve made peace with your parents; youâd learn about the family business willingly as long as they stopped interfering with your personal life. they surprisingly agreed.
nagi and reo win, as you expected, and as usual, the cameras trail their team as they celebrate on the field, their captain having tore his shirt off to celebrate that theyâd won the tournament. itâs not long before the camera pans back to nagi, a few reporters already surrounding him.
âso nagi, how do you feel right now?â
âgreat,â he answers, with a sexy amount of enthusiasm. heâs rarely ever enthused, but you find it so much more attractive when he is.
nagi has his phone in his hand, you notice, and you immediately fish for yours. heâd texted you right before they started hounding him.
are you watching?
you smile as you type back.
no. congrats on becoming champions! đ«¶đŒ
ânagi nagi, who would you like to dedicate this win to?â the reporters are all clambering to get a chance to question him.
âoh i donât know,â nagi says, and you catch him looking at your message before looking back at the camera. âi guess iâll dedicate this one to this girl i like.â
you nearly spit out your drink.
âwait, does this mean youâre involved with someone? tell us, who is it!â
all the reporters get excited, and understandably, since nagiâs probably just about given them the biggest scoop for the month. theyâre all looking at him, money signs in their eyes, while your jaw drops open as he overshares with the entire world.
âoh, y/n l/n, sheâs been my friend since forever and i donât know⊠i kinda like her a lot,â heâs saying all this earnestly, a hand scratching his neck and a blush creeping on his face, though he doesnât look the least bit fazed.
you rush to find his chat thread.
nagi, what the fuck!!!
you did NOT just say my name on live tv!!!
on the screen, he openly looks at your messages before typing a reply as the reporters hound him for more details.
oh shit, m i not supposed to?
ânagi, is she the one texting you right now?â
and like the honest guy he is, he nods. âoh yeah, think sheâs mad at me right now.â
you curl up under your blanket, flustered because nagi is way too open and way too precious.
âwould you like to say anything here to her now?â
nagi looks off camera and hums in contemplation before finally deciding on a response.
âhey y/n, tomorrow iâm gonna make you mine okay? so just wait for me.â
reo finally drags him away and towards the rest of his team and his interview ends there. you switch the television off, half mortified and half flattered. your phone blows up with most of your contacts gushing over what nagi said.
leave it up to nagi seishiro to have feelings for you, not realise it until years later, not tell you in the whole three months before this and yet announces it and your full name to the entire world on live television.
in spite of how flabbergasted you are, thereâs a warm sensation blooming underneath your chest, a comfort that youâve always been looking for finally fulfilled. thereâs a certain endearment in the way nagi realises and professes his feelings.
you pull up his messages again.
you better keep your word, sei.
it doesnât take him long to respond.
donât worry, iâll make you mine.

Also, I took a bit of inspo from this adorable post that I remember reblogging from my old account. Please have a look if you haven't yet because it's absolutely CUTE đ„č
Without further ado... Let's-a go! â€ïž
đ Peach's wardrobe đ
Princess Peach has a large and varied wardrobe. So far, Mario only remembers seeing her wearing her signature pink dresses, her favorite. She has several that are very similar to each other, with only a few small differences between them, such as puffed sleeves that her summer dress does not have, or an older design in which almost the entire skirt is a darker shade of pink. Peach always appears before him and his subjects wearing one of these outfits as pink is her favorite color, and one that, in Mario's opinion, suits her very well.
Recently, however, Mario has found that his beloved princess has a wide variety of outfits and has decided to start wearing them to visit the various kingdoms that Bowser has taken her to during her kidnapping, now that she finally has the freedom to choose where, when, and with whom to go.
And Mario loves to dress to match her.
The first time they did it, Mario ran into Peach and her friend Tiara almost by accident as she, as brave as ever, explored the lonely Forgotten Isle in an outfit worthy of Indiana Jones himself. Shorts, a backpack on her back, boots prepared for the earthy soil of the place... and her hair in a bun that was hidden under her explorer's cap.
Mario didn't take half a second to run back to his Odyssey ship and put on his own explorer's outfit to join her and continue exploring the island together.
When he met her in New Donk City, Peach was wearing one of Mario's favorite outfits of all the ones he had seen her in so far: a long pink flying skirt that, unlike her dresses, left her feet exposed; a gorgeous white blouse with a scarf around her neck, in a pastel pink shade that matched her pristine skin; and a wide hat over her abundant blonde hair. She looked beautiful and very comfortable, and the best part: she loved the black suit with matching fedora that Mario put on to go with Peachâs outfit. She told him he looked very elegant, and Mario thought his smile would overflow on both sides of his face since his cheeks hurt so much.
To him, on the other hand, the one who looked tremendously stylish and graceful was Peach when he met her in Bonneton. Her attire was dark, composed of a grayish coat, black stockings and gloves of the same color, which she combined with a beret that adorned her long hair. Mario kept watching her for a while, unable to help it, and he did the same thing when he met her in Shiveria, since the black and gold of her figure stood out among so much blinding white.
On that occasion, Mario felt that heâd never measure up to her with his orange, quilted coat, as opposed to Bonneton, where he was able to look at least a bit elegant with his black tuxedo, his red bow tie and a top hat that gave him the look of a magician. Or, at least, that's what she told him, while letting out a giggle that made Mario think of the softest and sweetest crystal bells.
Another one of his favorite outfits for the princess was her farmer attire, which was the one she chose to wear to visit the Luncheon Kingdom. Mario wasnât surprised to find her picking turnips to help the locals prepare their famous soup, as it wasnât the first time heâd seen her pulling vegetables from the ground. When she saw him dressed in his chef's outfit, she immediately applauded him and prepared to hand over the vegetables to him, thus naming him the official in charge of preparing the delicious best dish of the kingdom.
As for the last three outfits the princess has worn, Mario is unable to choose, as all three have provoked various sensations in him that made him wish he could stare at her forever, without having any other worries or mission to carry out. The Yukata with the fire flower pattern was, without a shadow of a doubt, one of them, a beautiful and lovely vision that gave him back some vitality and joy when he ran into Peach in Bowser's Kingdom. He, as bold as brass, put on his samurai outfit, ready to defend her from any evil, and she, always so demure, covered her face with her hand-held fan to hide a soft giggle. Still, watching her hair pulled back in a ponytail and the Boo-shaped buckle adorning her head, Mario knew heâd never measure up to her.
And he felt the same way when, while strolling along Bubblaine Beach and enjoying the coolness of the water with his doggy friend, he found her there, wearing that pretty white sarong adorned with pink power moons, the sunglasses on her blonde head... and that bikini that exposed more porcelain skin than Mario had ever seen. He felt completely ridiculous in his red swimsuit with white polka dots and wanted to sink to the depths of the crystal-clear waters of the kingdom just to prevent her from seeing him like that.
However, that couldn't overcome how stupid and embarrassed Mario felt when, just after rescuing her from Bowser's clutches, he got caught up in an absurd competition with the king of the Koopas to try to get Peach to agree to marry him. They may have both been wearing the perfect outfits, Peach in her beautiful white dress that made her look like an angel and him in his tuxedo of the same color and matching hat.
But Mario realized too late that this was not the right moment.
Still, he is content to have had the opportunity, albeit brief, to stand next to Peach while they both wore what would possibly be their wedding outfits. Mario knows that this will never happen again, that itâll never come true, because the idea of trying to propose again wouldnât even cross his mind. It took him a long time to forgive himself for his huge blunder, even though it took Peach only a few minutes to do so, and heâd never be able to be at peace with himself if he bothered her again.
Peach's friendship is very precious to Mario. He loves to meet her on his travels and share a few moments with her, full of fun and trust, which he wishes he could extend in time forever. In addition, on more than one occasion, Peach has asked him to accompany her to Lake Lemonade to make a new dress, and sometimes she has also invited Toad and Luigi. The people there are experts in haute couture, and Mario is always spellbound as he watches Peach pose for the seamstresses, who, in a matter of minutes, are able to create a new dress for her, each one more beautiful than the last.
And, on each occasion, Peach always turns on herself so that the dress can be appreciated in all its splendor, making her look more dazzling than a star and more radiant than the sun itself.
đ Balloon Brothersđ
Shortly after he saved Peach, Mario made two decisions when he continued to travel the kingdoms on his Odyssey ship. The first one was to adopt his loyal doggy friend, the clever Shiba that has helped him find so many power moons during his adventure. He named her Hattie, as she adores wearing a hat on her head no matter where they travel to, and also because her favorite game is chasing after Mario's cap and bring it back to him.
And the second one, as soon as he ran into Luigi for the first time, was that he'd always play Balloon World with him.
Every world he travels to, whatever his purpose or the mission that takes him there, Mario always has time for his little brother and loves to play Balloon World with him. He adores seeing his sibling so cheerful and excited, and the way he claps and cheers him on always causes Marioâs unstoppable energy to soar and his heart to melt with tenderness.
In Fossil Falls, Luigi was so scared of the T-Rex that organizing the game for Mario served as a distraction and a way for him to release some stress, something Mario was extremely relieved about. In Forgotten Isle, the same bird that had captured Cappy was threatening to pop the balloons that kept Luigi in the air and that were an essential part of his outfit as the game organizer, which only motivated Mario to chase the darned bird with the help of his loyal Hattie, until, at last, and to the relief of both brothers and Cappy, he managed to scare it away.
However, as soon as Mario ran into Luigi in the Snow Kingdom, shivering with cold in his shirtsleeves, but still smiling at his brother and inviting him to play while hugging himself, Mario did not hesitate for a moment: he hurried to get rid of his orange coat and, ignoring Luigi's faint protests, threw it over his twin, taking care not to accidentally pop his balloons. Despite his initial reluctance, Luigi couldn't help but close his eyes as he snuggled into the garment, trying to get warm, and Mario, his heart shrinking, hugged him with all his might as he gently rubbed his arms and back. Luigi cuddled up to him and Mario stroked his hair gently, his mind flooded with memories of when they were both little and Luigi would run to hide in his bed because he thought there was a monster under his bed. Sighing as he held his sibling in his arms, trying to shield him from the cold and icy drafts, Mario didn't agree to play until after he had taken Luigi inside his ship to wrap him in a blanket and offer him a hot drink to warm up inside.
Nevertheless, the opposite thing happened in Tostarena: Luigi, always determined to stay true to his original outfit as the game's creator, was too warm for the scorching desert heat. Before playing Balloon World, Mario decided that his little brother needed a change to feel more comfortable. So he grabbed him by the hand and pulled him into the shop. Luigi had to bend down so that his balloons could go in with him, and Mario immediately tried to convince him to, like him, put on a typical costume of the land, poncho and wide hat included, to feel comfier while they played there. His twin resisted a little, always wanting to maintain the elegance a game show host should always display, but when Mario assured him that he could keep his green bow tie, Luigi finally gave in. And, seeing them both in matching outfits, Mario also managed to convince his brother to play Balloon World together, to which Luigi agreed only after gifting him one of his balloons for Mario to wear on his wrist.
And they've done it many more times since then: in Peronza Plaza, in Bonneton, in New Donk City... even on the Moon! Also, whenever they play in the Mushroom Kingdom, the Toads join them and Luigi ends up giving them as many balloons as possible so they can have fun playing on their own, being the kind-hearted person he is.
Of course, Mario is well aware that his sibling knows the locations of the balloons, being the organizer of Balloon World, but he equally enjoys touring the various worlds with his little brother by the hand, dragging him along while Luigi floats after him and simply lets himself go. Marioâs heart sings for joy with every laugh that escapes his twinâs throat, especially when Hattie also joins the fun and runs with them in search for the balloon, only to pop it as soon as they do. Mario also loves the way Luigi guides him, or often misleads him, to make his search for the balloon easier or more complicated. Mario likes to be challenged by the game and Luigi knows it, so he appreciates it when his brother tries to trick him to divert him from his initial goal. This lengthens the game, as well as the time the brothers spend together, thus increasing the fun.
However, when it's time to say goodbye, Mario can read in his brother's face that heâs just as reluctant to part with him as Mario himself. His complicated missions through the kingdoms and, also, the longing to be reunited with Peach and spend some time with her as well have caused Mario to have to leave his brother's side without really wanting to, his soul screaming in the depths of his being that he should not do so, that he should turn back and return to Luigi's side.
When the same thing happens to him in the Moon Kingdom, Mario finally stops before entering his ship and turns on his heels. He sees Luigi raise his head, confused to see him turn around, and the surprise on his face only grows when Mario starts running towards him, although a little slower than heâd like due to the moon's gravity. A smile breaks out on Mario's face as he speeds up as fast as he can, and he stretches out his arms as he approaches his little brother. Luigi barely has time to open his arms as well before Mario pounces on him.
Luigi's gasp causes Mario to burst out laughing as he spins around with his brother in his arms, holding him tightly. It takes him a few seconds to realize that both of them are now floating in the air, propelled not only by Luigi's balloons, but also by the lack of gravity prevailing on the moon. His sibling clings to him as he laughs shyly, and Mario pulls away from him a second before his feet touch down again.
Holding Luigi's hands tightly and energetically, Mario offers him to board his Odyssey ship and accompany him on his travels, so that they can continue playing Balloon World together as his adventure progresses. And, perhaps, Luigi could also help him during their missions, just like in the old days, when they visited faraway realms, such as Piâillo Island or the Beanbean Kingdom, and even became partners in time.
As he speaks, Mario is very aware that his eyes are shining, full of excitement. His whole face must be, in fact, as euphoria bubbles up inside him like a river of unstoppable lava. Heâs unable to keep completely still, so he inadvertently shakes his hands and, with them, those of his brother, as he explains his idea to him. And his enthusiasm undoubtedly rubs off on his twin, as Mario can read in Luigi's blue eyes, identical to his own, which are filling with a special glow that can only mean he shares Mario's eagerness.
And so it was that the brothers began to travel together.
âš The Golden Trio âš
In some of their first trips together, when the brothers are about to play Balloon World, Peach meets them and becomes a spectator of their games. Luigi welcomes her with open arms and quickly explains to her what Mario has to do, and while his brother is searching, Luigi reveals in whispers to the princess where the balloon his twin is looking for is hidden.
Although, at first, Mario is a little embarrassed that Peach is going to watch him while he searches, he quickly decides that he must do everything he can to impress her, so he puts more effort into finding the balloon quickly and on his own, despite Hattie's attempts to help him. Whenever he succeeds, Luigi praises him enthusiastically and gives him a big hug, which Mario reciprocates joyfully and heartily. Peach, after applauding him a little more demurely, leans over to place a kiss on his nose, causing Mario's whole face to light up until it looks redder than his shirt. This always happens under the watchful eye of Luigi, who doesn't miss the chance to give his sibling a playful nudge while trying to silence his giggles, causing Mario's blush to increase.
However, the third time Peach meets the brothers, Luigi has the idea of inviting her to participate in the game, which he eagerly puts to her. Both she and Mario are delighted, and Luigi immediately rearranges the game so that Mario and Peach can play in competition against each other.
Of course, respect and friendship prevail in the game. Mario continues to play as usual, but Peach often beats him, as sheâs quick and smart, and he can only admire her more and more every time this happens. In fact, heâd say that he enjoys the occasions when the princess beats him the most, as he loves to see her so happy and enjoying herself when playing with him. Needless to say, even though Luigi is a most enthusiastic audience, Mario is the one who always applauds Peach the most, which makes her blush, something that doesn't happen to her when she thanks Luigi's compliments.
When the game is preparing to take place for the fifth time since Mario and Peach started playing together, Mario can't help but notice the way his brother is wringing his hands and fiddling with his fingers as he watches them. The game is about to begin, but he can't take his eyes off Luigi. He can read his face like an open book, something that has happened practically since they were born... and he doesn't like what he sees.
It's not that Luigi is sad. He's happy to be with them and eager to see them play Balloon World again. He's ready to cheer them both on and shower them with praise, as always, for, after all, his little brother is one of the sweetest and gentlest people he knows.
However, Mario can see in his gestures, in the way he bites his lower lip, in the way he fiddles with his own hands, in the way his eyes sparkle, that Luigi misses being able to join the game despite knowing the location of the balloons beforehand.
So even though Luigi gives the start command just a second later, Mario doesn't move.
And it pleases him greatly to realize that Peach, next to him, hasn't moved either.
When he turns his face towards her, Peach does the same. Mario barely needs a few seconds to realize that the princess, always as perceptive and as concerned about Luigi as he is, almost as if she were some sort of big sister to him, has also noticed the longing that shines in his little brother's eyes.
The two hold each other's gaze for a moment before smiling determinedly and giving one another a mutual nod. In unison, the two turn to Luigi, who looks from one to the other, his face the spitting image of bewilderment. As he and Peach start walking towards the game organizer, Mario can't help but let out a laugh in anticipation of what's about to happen, and he hears Peach let out a small giggle next to him that only makes his heart swell.
Decisively, they both hold Luigi, each with one hand, and Mario puts his other arm around Luigi's shoulders while Peach wraps her free arm around the younger plumberâs back. Luigi doesn't understand anything, but he doesn't resist, since, of course, he trusts them completely. Peach and Mario start walking while dragging him along, and the princess proclaims that, by royal order, Luigi must play Balloon World with them. This finally gets Luigi to relax and even laugh, and Mario feels his little brother squeeze his hand as he and the princess laugh together.
For a moment, Mario simply watches them. His heart fills with joy whenever he sees them getting along so well. He loves that Luigi has found in Peach a friend he can trust and be himself with, and he loves that the princess, in each of their interactions, shows that she truly cares about Luigi's well-being and wants only the best for him.
And he just loves them both so much that his heart could burst.
He couldnât live without either of them.
When the game concludes, shortly before the brothers return to the Odyssey ship, Mario summons the courage to offer Peach to join them. That way, the three of them could travel together, keep each other company and help one another in their adventures, and theyâll always have the chance to play Balloon World together.
As he speaks, however, it occurs to Mario that perhaps he should have consulted Luigi before inviting Peach, so he throws a sidelong glance at his brother to try to apologize to him without words.
But Luigi, ever so sweet and kind, ever the man with the purest heart, is nodding eagerly as he hears his brother speak, and as soon as Mario concludes, Luigi turns to Peach and takes her hands while expressing how much heâd love for her to join them. Mario can't and won't hold back the look of intense love and adoration he gives his twin as he talks to the princess. Who, of course, gladly accepts.
Thus, Mario, Luigi and Peach, accompanied by the inseparable and always loyal Hattie, Cappy and Tiara, embark on the Odyssey to a new world. And, as they travel, the three of them look out the window, Mario and Luigi with their hands on the glass and looking at the clouds with excitement, and the princess, with a hand resting on the shoulder of each of the brothers as she joins in their excitement at the sight they are contemplating.
Their adventure has only just begun.

I am so ill over Mario and Peach
Continue reading to listen to me absolutely lose my mind over these goobers
Establishing character:
I just adore Mario and Peach so much. And before I get those funny people always like âoh Mario hates peach,â or âpeach never âgivesâ Mario anything for saving her! He probably only does it to get something from her-â Ima need yall to shut your trap ok đč
First of all, Nintendo, especially with Mario characters, had no idea how to characterize their characters in the beginning. Peach changes in almost every single different medium. Take the old Nintendo power (I think) comic called the âsuper Mario adventures.â in which Peach is a lot more outgoing, strong, sassy, and a literal general.
Not saying this is a bad rendition of peach I actually like it! But I use it as an example of how these characters have changed over the years. And also, often times in games or stories like these where they focus more on the characters than gameplay, we see a more accurate and fleshed out character. Which is why in some other Mario games, characters often say things that might seem rude or out of character but is put there for comedy. (Nintendo obsession with making fun of Luigi in every rpg game is an example đ). And the same goes for Mario, heâs changed a lot. But I feel in the current renditions of the characters, they have a much more stable idea of their character.
Also another cute picture from the comic-(sorry quality poopy I took it from mine)
This is peach dreaming about marrying Mario btw.
Marioâs character:
From what we see now, Mario is just an average blue collar man in his late twentyâs who is quite short and also plump. Despite this he is still THE most brave, athletic, talented, determined, occasionally hot headed, and an overall idol to the entire mushroom kingdom. He is often labeled as THE Mario. And people also express their surprised when they actually see what he looks like đ. But the reason I bring this up is Mario is quite literally just some guy. Heâs some guy who entered this foreign kingdom, heard there was a Princess in trouble, and as a New York Italien blue collar worker he couldâve easily just went on with his day or ignored these random peoples pleas, but instead, he immediately decides he will travel multiple worlds so he can save this princess and help the kingdom (also cause the game needed a incentive but still-). From the get go mario was ready to help people. He helps them not expecting anything in return, but because he has a good sense of Justice. Thereâs hundreds of side quests you can do with Mario, sometimes theyâre ridiculous. But you know what? Mario will do it. Because he likes helping people. Because heâs a role model. And because heâs just a good guy.
Mario and Peach as a couple:
Most of the time, people who criticize or make fun of their relationship are often doing it as a joke which is fine, but this is for the people who genuinely think Peach is a jerk for not giving Mario âmoreâ for what he does.
People often say âMario has saved her so many times and all he gets is a kiss on the cheek!â
Now despite the fact Peach doesnât owe Mario anything just because he saved her, I can see why people might be upset over this. However, like I said before, Mario does things not expecting rewards, but just because itâs the right thing to do and he has a duty.
People forget one dire things when it comes to love like this:
Love can be shown in many different ways
Peach kissing Mario in the cheek wasnât proof that they were in love or together. Iâd argue they werenât really at all in the beginning. Except maybe a slight crush. A kiss on the cheek is often just a gesture of gratitude. Peach usually kissed anyone who saved her. Itâs just her way of saying thank you.
What really shows that Mario and peach love one another is how they interact. The things they say and do. They donât need to kiss to prove theyâre in love, itâs simply implied with how they interact with one another. Whether itâs small gestures like holding oneâs hand before a big game, or something such as trusting the other person to give you a boost so you can save your partners rabbid version of themselves from an evil space fish.
Or! It can be something more direct, like peach literally looking Mario in the eyes and saying this:
Or when she is scared but assured herself she will be ok as long as she has Mario!
Itâs these little things that speak larger than words. Mario and peach simply have a relationship that is there but doesnât need to be forced down your throats to convince you that theyâre in love. They simply are. And their love is shown in many ways. Love comes in all shapes and sizes, and so does Mario and Peach!
Now have Mario dancing like a middle aged dad snapping his little fingers to make Peach laugh :)

Chikara (OC: An Oni who had trained Sendai, when she was but a mere child. She encountered the soon to be Shrine Maiden when the young girl accidentally tripped and rolled down a hill in the forest, and came across the Oni in the midst of a training session. Seeing potential in the young girl, despite Sendaiâs (old) scaredy cat behavior, she put her through a rigorous training routine where the young shrine maiden essentially had to fight for her life and survive in a simulation of a hostile wildlife environment, similar to that of a certain Namekian and Hybrid Saiyanâs training session in a certain manga. Chikara loves the thrill of battle, and can often be seen training in caves across Gensokyo, or visiting Sendai for sparring matches.
Yumi Konpaku (OC from Lost Word): An alternate Youmu who came from a different Gensokyo, one where she acted as the executioner in a land where contestant fought against each other in tournament settings, and she had to punish the losers. Like the regular Youmu, she enjoys gardening. However, there are a few key differences. One, sheâs much more powerful due to her having much more time to spend trainingâŠbut is also a terrible chef due to her time spent training taking away any time she had to learn how to cook. Hobbies aside, her blade glows red due to the blood itâs been stained with over many years, and is cursed due to all the souls itâs taken. Regardless, sheâs a friendly soul, who didnât enjoy what she had to do.)
Sakuya Izayoi
Gurren Lagann:
Simon
Kamina
Nia Teppelin
Simonia (OC: Simon and Niaâs child, who was born after the events of SRWX. She inherited her fatherâs core drill, his sense of passion and determination, and her motherâs kindness and curiosity. She idolizes her parents, and tries to follow their example as much as possible (except for her motherâs cooking. She did not inherit Simonâs tolerance for it, and got really sick after her first time trying it.)

Raiden (Revengeance)
Shiro (OC: A used to be child soldier who was experimented on as a weapon in the past, before breaking out in a failed test. She was found by Raiden in a warehouse, with a knife in hand, before being adopted into his household. Her memories of her life before the experiments donât exist for her, no matter how much she tries to dig them up. Sheâs quiet, but deeply appreciates Raiden for his help, and consistently refers to him as âsensei.â She wields her own personal HF Blade, and trains daily to mimic his combat style. Her favorite food is cereal, which she would have for breakfast lunch and dinner if left unattended, and has a bad habit of spending money on model Gundam figures, recklessly.
Fate:
Cu Chulainn
Elizabeth Bathory
Baobhan Sith
Kirin (OC: Quite possibly the worldâs greatest girlfail, with more bags under her eyes than a group of people after a long shopping trip. Sheâs a middle school dropout who spent the next six years working job to job in run down areas, while barely getting any sleep and playing games 24/7. Once she turned 20, she suddenly got an invitation to work as a master for Chaldea. She initially deemed it a scam, but figured she may as well check it out, since anything was better than working at a bar with ungrateful customers. Soon enough, she found herself fighting in a war to save the worldâŠwhich she finds completely insane, but kinda fun. The whole âthreat of deathâ thing is annoying, in her opinion, but she figured she could get over it. Personality wise, she can come off as unfriendly and anti-social with a large streak of trouble following her everywhere, but she CAN be nice in some instances⊠She is not shy about showing when she doesnât like something to someone, though.
Kiran (OC: Kirinâs older twin, with just as many bags under his eyes, and worked just as many run down jobs before travelling with his sister to Chaldea to work as a master. Heâs somewhat more responsible than Kirin, acting as her impulse control to a degree, but for the most part, he tends to behave very similarly to her and the two often finish each otherâs sentences. )

Malu (OC: Alolaâs champion, who spends most of time relaxing and eating Malasadas with his PokĂ©mon. Being someone who strives to find the most comfortable way to live, Malu can often be seen lazing about, wherever. Whether it be on the beach, in a tree, or one of the chairs in a Malasada store, him, napping, is a common sight across Alola. Regardless of his seemingly lazy nature, his skills as a trainer are nothing to take lightly.
Haruka (OC: A trainer from Johto who moved to Alola to take on the Island Trials and become champion. Sheâs hard working and determined to prove herself. Her efforts proved valiantâŠup until she got up to the current champion, Malu. She currently has lost to him a total of 87 times thus far, with no victory of her own, yet. Still, she eagerly challenges him whenever he comes by⊠She finds his presence somewhat irritating though, due to his seemingly lazy nature clashing with his insane combat skills.

He brands super-hero like clothing, and idolized super heros, pro wrestlers, and the champ, himself, Hercule. Heâs very laid back and prone to making jokes, but is also the most powerful amongst his group of three.)
Celera (OC: A time patroller Saiyan who worked as a scholar in Universe 6, before being recruited into the Time Patrol. Sheâs hard working and studious, often trying to find way to make the best of any situation in a logical mannerâŠwhich makes her a bit irritable due to being surrounded by teammates who rely on anything but logic. Regardless, theyâre her friends, and she does her best to keep the world a better place⊠Also, her natural hair and eye color is black, but gained white hair through a mishap with magic paint, and gold eyes due to a mishap with a spell in school. Both, of which, never got undone or fixed.)
Nio (OC: A time patroller elf who lived in secrecy and practiced dark magic, before being recruited into the Time Patrol. Despite her work in the dark arts, though, Nio is an energetic and extremely friendly soul, who wishes to prove to the world that even magic of this nature can be used to help others. Sheâs incredibly socialâŠbut tends to miss social queues due to having lived alone for so long.)
Kohlri (OC: Brolyâs mother, who had abandoned Planet Vegeta in a fit after having heard news of Paragus and her son being sent away to a far away, abandoned planet. Due to her space pod malfunctioning during the trip, she made a crash landing onto earth, and had since been living there while adapting to Earthâs culture, in the meantime. Many years later, after the events of the battle between Broly and Gogeta, the former one day found himself meeting with his mother in the midst of a random shopping trip with Cheelai and Lemo. It didnât take Kohlri too long to recognize due to both his scent, and tail. This resulted in a very tear reunion on her end, as Kohlri soon found herself walking into her sonâs life, once again⊠Compared to her husband, sheâs incredibly cheerful and outgoing, with great social skillsâŠand an apparent lack of impulse control, given her purchase history. Sheâs also, however, who Broly inherited his rage boosted power ups from, given she goes into similar berserker states when powering up, without focus.

Fandomless OCs:
Akira (OC: A super laid back 27 year old woman who works at a small gas station in THE TOWN called Akiraâs. Sheâs a friendly soul treats her employees and friends like family, and gives out EXTREMELY large paychecks, despite her only customers being the people from Marioâs apartment. There are rumors that she used to be a fortune goddess who reincarnated as a human, but she has yet to confirm anythingâŠto the public, at least.)
Kiki (OC: A 19 year old ex-magical girl who was fired from being âtoo old to continue working.â A fact that she found incredibly bizarre and annoying, but she couldnât really do anything about it as she just suddenly woke up one day, with a âFiredâ letter next to her bed, and no powers. Having been launched back into a normal life so suddenly, after five years of dutiful work, she felt lost, until she moved to THE TOWN with her parents, and was hired by Akira. With such a large paycheck, and friendly co-workers around her, she was able to settle back into a normal life⊠The craziness of THE TOWN does make her life even more bizarre than it used to be, sometimes, though.
Ella (OC: The hired maid of AkiraâsâŠwho had no experience in anything regarding Maid work, beforehand. She signed up for the job due to the reviews of the place being friendlyâŠand the paychecks being great. Most of her maid knowledge comes from anime that she watched, so sheâs lacking in practical experience, and is plenty clumsy. Regardless, she enjoys her time at the gas station, and her fellow employees enjoys her presence, as well.
August (OC: A member of the Lethal Company, who recently moved to THE TOWN after being given a ten year vacation by the company for surviving ten years of work. Sheâs skittish, nervous, and very shy, which would be expected after having survived watching most of her co-workers die at the hands of supernatural beings and harsh environmental hazards. While she is happy to be in a âsomewhatâ less dangerous environment, she does wish that she never took up the job opportunity to be a space excavator, and stool to working at Dairy Queen.)
Nis (OC: The young princess of the underworld, who rules over all its inhabitants withâŠa surprisingly lazy and gentle hand. Nis is someone who can best be described as a tired and calm soul, almost always being seen in her pajamas, and resting whenever possible. Sheâs spoiled rotten by her father, yet never acts entitled. Her favorite hobby is playing video games with her minions and friendsâŠand playing with the magical girls in THE TOWN, who initially viewed her as a threat, but came to view her as a friend after realizing her work was mandatory, and thatâd sheâd surrender the very moment they showed up to fight her every time.)
Azure (OC: A void dragon appointed by the Underworldâs king to punish souls deemed unfit for the worst of the Underworld. Due to the souls being sent there being very rare and barren, void dragons often spend their time in human form lazing about and playing games in a mansion they made in the void, or the outside world. Azure, himself, isnât much different. Often spending more time outside the void, than inside. Heâs a laid back soul who enjoys playing pranks, and hanging with Rose and Nis, and his sister, Azul. He has a pet stone that he aptly named âStoneâ, who is completely sentient and talks back, but to only him.
Azul (OC: A void dragon appointed by the Underworldâs king to punish souls deemed unfit for the worst of the Underworld. Sheâs Azureâs younger sister, and tends to stick by his side, for the most part. She shares his same sense of mischief, but is a little more energetic about it, being more eager to get involved, instead of waiting for the chance to come to her. Like her brother, she spends a good chunk of her time playing games with Rose and Nis.)
Rose (OC: An underworld devil and Roseâs right hand-man. She used to be a human, before suffering an untimely death at the hands of those she once considered friends. Unable to move on, who soul rested in a forest, before being recruited as an underworld soldier by the reaper. She now works at Nisâ side as a dutiful soldierâŠeven if the monarchâs lazy tendencies tend to stress her out, a bit. Because of her being somewhat easily ticked off, Azure and Azul tend to playfully tease her a lot. This, of course, annoys her, but it never goes far.)
Violet (OC: A laid back swordswoman who left a town run by a corrupt kingdom to explore the world at her leisure, having been inspired by her friends at her childhood orphanage to find a better life. She explored the land with a sword in hand, and a carefree nature. When sheâs not busy practicing swordplay, sheâs finding quick jobs to make cash, so long as it adheres to her sense of morality, or crashing at places with anyone sheâs found to be a friend, along the way.)
Mika (OC: A young magical girl who came from a ruined timeline where she was tricked by her magical girl contractors, the Miracle Mirans, into destroying all life on earth with illusionary techniques, making her think she was stopping monsters and saving the world, where instead, she was destroying everything on it. Horrified, she escaped into a different timeline where no such things had occurred, and managed to somehow settle back into a normal lifeâŠor so sheâd wished. She still experienced horrific nightmares of her crimes, which makes sleeping for her incredibly difficult. Regardless, thanks to her having found a new group of magical girls to keep her steady, as her new friends, sheâs finding it just a tiny bit easier to live a peaceful life, once again, in THE TOWN.
Haru (OC: A young magical girl who idolizes Shonen Manga and anime, such as Dragon Ball and Gurren Lagann. She fights crime with a fiery passion and will, while sometimes vastly overestimating how much will alone can do⊠It worked in Gurren Lagann, though! Her confidence aside, she was the first of the Magical Girls to meet up with Mika, and eagerly wished for her to be her teammate, until the two fought their first enemy together. After that, Mika relented and agreed to be in a team with Haru, in which the two celebrated with Karaoke, courtesy of Haru almost literally dragging her there. Sheâs aware of Mikaâs past, but doesnât bring it up to avoid making her uncomfortable, and defends her with all her heart and might.)
Lucky (OC: A young magical girl who became one of the worldâs most rich individuals, as a result of her family being blessed with divine luck, and winning multiple lotteries over the course of their lives. Sheâs a friendly soul who became quick friends with Mika and Haru after become acquainted in school, and conveniently meeting up in the same place to fight a monster, when one showed up. Despite her immense funds, she never uses them as a way to make herself look better than others. Instead, she always uses her funds to try and help them/make their lives easier on them.)
Naomi (OC: A young magical girl who works as a part time shrine maiden. Sheâs incredibly serious when it comes to her work, both in magical girl duties, and out. She encountered the group of three magical girls in the middle of a losing battle, and jumped in to help. After a narrow victory, the group of three spent the next five weeks along her to join their group, in which she eventually relented after being saved by the three in a losing battle of her own. Due to her being the most serious of the bunch, she tends to butt heads with Haru, due to the otherâs much more idealistic and joking nature⊠Regardless, she appreciates the company of all three, equally.)
Iamaslime (OC: The mayor of THE TOWN, who is a slime. He looks similar to that of the slimes in the world of Dragon Quest, and is incredibly lax with the rules of THE TOWN⊠Or in reality, lack thereof. Thereâs no actual rules, which explains why randomness and chaos is so apparent in this town. All forms of âauthorityâ are self-governed independent projects and have nothing to do with him.â)
Iamaslimetoo (OC: The mayorâs daughter, who looks similar to that of a slime girl from a certain half genieâs series. Like her father, sheâs incredibly lax with the lack of rules in THE TOWN, and spends all her time relaxing, or hanging out at parties with her dad.)
John Gmod (OC: One of the two bodyguards for the mayor and his daughter, and the one with an actual sense of common sense. Heâs consistently caught up in his partnerâs shenanigans, and always ends up taking half the blame for the otherâs nonsense, even if he had nothing to do with it. He wants to retire and move to Fiji, but with his current inability to hold onto funds, that dream seems like nothing more than a dream.)
John Dark Souls (OC: One of the two bodyguards for the mayor and his daughter, and the one who lack any sense of common sense. Heâs consistently stirring up trouble, whether it be to him actively coming up with get rich quick schemes, attempting to show off in lame ways to get a date, like riding around THE TOWN in a tank, or just starting fights whenever itâs least beneficial for everyone. His dream is to have a harem and live as king of the world, but that dream is DEFINITELY just a dream.)

Hey I was tackling a concept which really has not been able to leave my mind. It was about Mr L and Daisy. That side of Luigi which we only truly see in Super Paper Mario. A snarky, confident villain who was quite a match for the heroes but I wonder how he responds to Daisy. An aggresive, passionate person who doesn't take crap from anybody.
It is fire against fire and normally that would clash but would that also count for these two? How would the dynamic change? Is Mr L more flirty and Daisy more taken aback by this? Or will she flirt back even more as a way to defend herself? And how does she feel about this Mr L? Does she completely hate him? Or does she like some parts of his personality?
Let me know what your thoughts are on this!
Hey! This is another fun ask that Iâve been slowly working on, but life and distraction kept pulling me away from. But FINALLY Iâm here!
Iâve been feeling in a bit of a fluffy-sappy mood. So I do apologize just in case if I do make characters seem OOC!
Also, this is a bit more Luigi-heavy it seems, since this ask is about potential ideas regarding Mr L. Enjoy!
âââââââââââââââââ
So. Potential Scenario time to set the scene and some context:
After Mario Fighting Mr L and seemingly banishing this Alter Ego from his younger brotherâs body. Mario realizes that the side effects may not be as simple as it is.
Turns out, Although looking to be temporary. Due to the odd nature of magic, Parts of the so called âMr Lâ alter ego still lingers within the subconscious of Luigiâs mind. And from time to time, will often pop up in moments of high-tension, stress or anger.
It has been deduced that for the time being, Mr L may be triggered as an extreme way for Luigi to overcome the very things that holds him back.
This âRevivedâ Version of Mr L, now retains some memories from when he was primarily active and thriving. Now, he is more aware that he is a conscious. He just chooses to see that he and Luigi share one âVesselâ
Mr L also has adopted new parts to his behavior, which are triggered from his old memories (In which I will elaborate further below.)
So now as the main gang have to wait this out till it passes over. Letâs see how our Sarasaland Princess deals with this!
âââââââââââââââââ
đ Two Sides of the Same Coin đ
So if i remember correctly, Mr L did kind of express some sort of attraction towards Peach in the game.
But when a new Princess comes into the picture? Oh boy, did he fall HARD.
đ While itâs obvious from surface level than Daisy and Luigi are more of an opposites attract sort of situation. Iâd reckon that both Daisy and Mr L are more or so an equal match. This is what makes a bit more banter between the two. Especially when Mr L is the one talking his worth. Daisy on the other hand, is the type to eye-roll at his antics more.
But strange enough. When it comes to Daisy, Mr L acts differently around her. Because itâs been implied that some of Mr Lâs behavior is still affected from Luigiâs memories, His attraction for her hits him full force. He actually wants to âKeep her aroundâ. So he genuinely puts in effort to do so. Ironically, his actions is what keeps her at bay sometimes.
đ Of Course is seen to act so Cocky towards most of his rivals and enemies, laughing at their faces. But when it comes to Daisy, he clearly tries to find ways to impress her and gain her attention.
While Luigi is all about the sentimental, heartfelt and genuine understanding. Mr L does not seem to get it, and relies on grand and flashy feats. Most of these attempts do not work, and he becomes genuinely shocked.
He doesnât insult Daisy intentionally. But more has the âOh, she doesnât understandâŠHey, Iâll try something else! Something even more grand!â Mentality.
đ Because of Luigi, he has a natural subconscious pull and attraction towards Her. In fact, thatâs one of the lucky things that Daisy has to keep from making him as her enemy in the first place.
But of course, heâs more full of himself about it. Leaning against a wall, arms crossed until Daisy notices and calls him out for staring. But he doesnât give a care in the world.
â Hey now. I canât help staring down at such a beautiful force of nature~â
đ đ Seeing Daisy in her signature sports or Mario Kart Biker outfit? He will absolutely give a whistle of approval. When Mr L likes what he sees, he makes it VERY clear.
He will find amusement if Daisy reacts in a shocked manner. But itâs when she reacts all flustered, cue the smirk from him. He eats this kind of response right up!
đ đ Mr L has a knack for giving demeaning nicknames for his rivals and enemies. But for Daisy? Pet names and complements galore. He has no shame.
âHey, Ms Pretty Petal! How about I pluck you from the fields of boredom, and take you somewhere fun?
âWell Hey, Ms Sunflower! I was working on my latest inventionâŠbut looks like all I need is you to brighten my day!
âHey Ms Steady Sweetie! Howâd you like my Dance Moves? Speechless? Huh, thatâs okay. I guess The Green Thunder must be THAT striking to you huh?
đ Even Mr Lâs need to leap in and defend Daisy, is by some instinctual force. At first, he merely just does this because he wants to One-up (Pun intended) Luigi. To prove that heâs the better conscious. The better man.
But over time, Mr L is forced to learn and accept new things. So overtime, much to his chagrin, he unintentionally gains some empathy and development along the way. He always backs this up as simply not letting anyone tell him what to do. But doing this on his own will.
As time goes on though. Mr L kind of does change a bit. Also to show him learning to work together with Luigiâs conscious.
âThat Mr Toochickentofightghosts would be sad if anything happened to youâŠEh, wouldnât you know? Something I agree with.â
đ Regarding Mr L retaining the memories he previously once had. This is tied to my previous point of him now hating being told what to do. He is actually scared of being controlled by another force. Hence why when he gains understanding that he and Luigi share a conscious, he often fights to take over.
When opened up in his most vulnerable state, he kind of actually does express sympathy for what he remembers as Count Bleckâs downfall. In this moment, he subtly implies that he is unsure as to who he can look up to now. Or if he could ever find someone as worthy as Bleck to admire.
đđ Iâd like to imagine that at some point, Everything would change, when Daisy ends up defending not just Luigi. But Mr L as well. I can imagine this happening at a point much later, When Daisy has learnt so much about Mr L, and has gotten along with him this far.
Seeing this Princess proclaiming that Mr L is not some One-time minion who can just be used and cast away, makes him see that Daisy genuinely finds recognition and respect in his intellect. And Thus, he fully shifts to having his utmost loyalty from Bleck, to âHisâ Daisy.
Aside from his now changed views on Mario, Luigi and the main Gang. This was the woman he quite literally will think of as top Priority to him. For she genuinely sees him for what he is worth. Much like she does for Luigi
đŒ HeâŠLoves me? đŒ
đ This whole thing might be something Daisy has never seen before. And knowing that the one person she loves has a double personality understandably would freak her out a little at the beginning. But since Mario would have fought Mr L already, so he could explain to Daisy about everything.
Again, Mr L and Luigi are really all in all the same person. So after Mario had to confirm this a couple of times for her to process, Daisy is quick to be aware of this. She would never fault Luigi for how Mr L would act. But of course, it doesnât entirely stop her from being appalled at Mr Lâs actions.
đ Daisy does not tolerate Luigiâs legacy to be insulted. It is why whenever Mr L does make some kind of passive aggressive insult towards Luigi, is the thing that gets her so defensive and annoyed the most.
đ It is Daisyâs strong character, her not falling for Mr Lâs antics easily. Is ironically, what draws him to her so much. The running gag is that no matter how much she tries to retort back to him, he actually finds amusement in it. He definitely likes her âfeistyâ nature.
đ Daisyâs way of learning how to actually get along and accept Mr L, is by being able to be as quick witted as he is. She begins to quickly learn that a flirtatious comeback or two, is enough to basically shut him up. She actually finds it really funny that all she can do is wink back at him, and he becomes all silent.
Of course much to her dismay, she then suddenly remembers that this was the fuel to fan his flames of desire. Pining for her even more the next day. Task failedâŠsuccessfully?
đ Honestly, Daisy would sometimes be frustrated and shocked at Mr Lâs excessive dramatic and cheesy nature. But as she learns to help Luigi with this new predicament of now welcoming Mr L into his life. Daisy begins to form more insight as to how Luigiâs mind might work.
đ Surprisingly enough. Being around Mr L, has taught Daisy what she can do to motivate and support Luigi. It is why she takes raising his confidence seriously, and will further instill into him that being himself, is what made her fall for him. And that as long as he still held onto his pure heart, she will not judge him for having Mr L in his life.

We Should Have a Sequel
After his attempted invasion of Brooklyn, Bowser has been confined in Peachâs castle. Luigi is afraid his brother will land himself in trouble if his attention isnât captured by a new diversion, and what better way to stir up excitement than to set the Koopa King free? 1,700 words . Rated T . ( also on AO3 )
The interior of Peachâs castle was far larger than it appeared from the outside. Luigi still got lost on occasion, but he had no trouble finding the room where the Koopa King was imprisoned. Even hidden in a far corner of the castle, and even trapped inside a thick wall of glass, the man could be heard from yards away.
Luigi hadnât told anybody about his intention to pay a visit to Bowser. Not that anyone would pay attention even if he did. Worlds away from Brooklyn, Mario was still the star of the show.
Luigi didnât mind that the spotlight was on his brother. Far from it. He had no desire to be the center of attention for their enormous family, nor did he want anything to do with the endless parade of games that amused the princess.
If Luigi knew his brother, however, Mario would eventually grow tired of Peachâs obstacle courses before long. When that happened, there would be trouble.
Heâd seen it happen before, countless times. First Mario quit the family business, and then he quit trade school. Then he quit the only contracting service that would hire them, only to blow their savings on a commercial narrated in an old-world accent their grandmother would have been ashamed to hear, rest her soul. So why not jump directly into the sewers under Brooklyn? That would show everyone, sure. No misdemeanors there.
Brooklyn was one thing, but the Mushroom Kingdom was something else entirely. If Mario made impulsive decisions here, it could have serious consequences. Luigi sometimes caught the princess watching his brother, and he feared the sharp edges hidden underneath her frills.
Ever since they were kids, Luigi always went along with everything Mario proposed, but something had changed. His patience had worn thin. Spending a few days in a cage suspended over lava would do that to a guy. Someone needed to take action before Mario became a danger to himself and everyone around him. For better or worse, that someone was him.Â
There was no door blocking the room where the princess had imprisoned Bowser, nor was there anyone to stop Luigi from walking right in.
Bowser didnât notice. He was too busy banging at his keyboard and wailing. As far as Luigi could tell, the song was pure nonsense. Bowser was almost kind of cute, he thought, sort of like the stuffed dinosaurs they used to sell at the Natural History Museum when he was a kid. They probably still did, for all he knew. It had been years since heâd been across the bridge to Manhattan. It was just a short train ride away, but it always seemed like too much trouble.
But that was then, and this was now. He didnât need Mario to hold his hand.
Luigi reached forward and tapped the bottle.Â
Bowser wasnât the least bit surprised. He shot Luigi an annoyed look. âHey, canât you see Iâm jamming here?â
âSorry to interrupt. I donât know if you remember me, but, well. Anyway.â Luigi fished his glass cutter out of his pocket and held it up for Bowser to see. âI thought you might like to get out.â
âWhat makes you think I want to leave?â Bowser snapped.
Luigi didnât know what to make of that response, but he soldiered on.
âSorry, um. Just try to hold still.â
âNo. No no no no.â Bowser shook his head. âYou think you are going to help me with that tiny little tool? Donât be ridiculous.â He extended a claw and, in the blink of an eye, sliced off the cork end of the bottle. The glass fell and struck the floor with a resonant peal.
âEt voila. Nice and clean,â Bowser gloated, blowing a puff of dust from his claw.
Luigi lowered his glass cutter. So much for his genius plan.
âYou could have gotten out this whole time?â he asked.
âOf course. Who do you think I am?â
âWhy didnât you, then?â
âI was waiting. Like a gentleman.â
It took Luigi a moment to realize what Bowser was talking about. âYou were waiting⊠for Peach?â
âThatâs Princess Peach to you. She was bound to come eventually, when she realized how much I love her.â
Luigi gazed at the small creature perched comfortably on his tiny piano bench. Unaware of how silly he looked, Bowser was the picture of smug confidence. Luigi was starting to regret this conversation. Â
âListen, I hate to break it to you, but I donât think sheâs coming anytime soon. What is it you like about her anyway?â
âIâm glad you asked,â Bowser replied, turning back toward the piano.
âWait!â Luigi interjected quickly. âDonât start singing. Please. You can tell me with, you know. Words.â
âDonât mind if I do.â Bowser began counting his fingers. âOne, her sweet soft skin. Two, her bright silky hair. Three, her lack of teeth.â
âI think she has teeth,â Luigi remarked.
âNot ones that hurt,â Bowser replied. âAnd four, no fire breath. Is that not perfection? Iâve never laid eyes on a more divine being.â
Luigi thought for a moment. âDoes it have to be her?â he asked.
Bowser narrowed his eyes. âWhat do you mean?â
âWhat I mean is, you might just have a thing for humans. So you donât have to marry Peach. It could be any human. It could be me. For example.â
âThatâs an interesting proposition.â Bowser stood from his bench and took a step forward. In the next moment, he was standing in front of Luigi, full-sized and larger than life. Â
Luigi stepped back in alarm, and his heel caught the hem of his overalls. Of course I would trip, he thought as the moment spooled out in a frayed thread of embarrassment.Â
Whatever athletic ability ran in the family, none of it went to him. Mario could run magical obstacle courses day and night, but even the thought of jumping around while hopped up on mushrooms made Luigiâs stomach turn. He was more of a bookkeeping kind of guy, truth be told. He was the one who remembered the keys and the phone and the toolbox. And the glass cutter, for all the good it did. Despite his brotherâs many faults, he was half the man Mario was, and he had no business getting himself into this sort of mess.Â
Bowser clutched Luigiâs arm, pulling him back. âHold still,â he ordered. Â
Time seemed to melt like butter as Bowser traced the contours of Luigiâs face with his claws. His breath was like gasoline and hot tar under the summer sun. It was a smell Luigi always loved, back when he would drive to Jersey to buy beer and cigarettes for his uncles. Heâd fill up the family van and sneak glances at the strong callused hands of the men who pumped the gas. Â
âSo youâre a human too,â Bowser observed as he toyed with a strand of Luigiâs hair. âWhat does a human want from me?â
âI thought maybe you might like to give it another shot,â Luigi stammered. âYou know, conquering the Mushroom Kingdom. Itâll keep things interesting. Second timeâs the charm, right?â
Bowser grinned and clapped him on the shoulder.
âYouâre all right, Luigi. You know what, I might have some use for you. And the other humans will bend over backwards to rescue you. Howâd you fancy coming to my castle for a visit? Special invitation only, if you catch my meaning.â
âIâd like that,â Luigi answered, amazed that Bowser would agree so readily.
âExcellent. Itâs a date.â Bowser struck his shoulder once more, and Luigi could feel his bones creak under the weight of his massive hand.
Before Luigi could think to say anything else, Bowser vanished in a cloud of fluorescent sparks.
Luigi stood and stared at the empty space where Bowser had been. âHe remembered my name,â he muttered.
âOf course he did. Who do you think he is?â snapped a peevish voice at his back. Luigi spun around to find a turtle in a hooded robe glaring at him through the thickest pair of glasses heâd seen on this side of the 1990s.
âKamek at your service. Charmed, Iâm sure. I came to pull His Majesty out of his ridiculous slump, but it seems you beat me to it. Care to explain the little scheme youâre hatching?â he asked as he tilted a wicked-looking wand in Luigiâs direction.
Luigi panicked. âMy brotherâs going to get himself in serious trouble if he doesnât have a distraction soon,â he blurted.
âAnd youâd put both of our kingdoms at war to amuse your brother?â
âYou looked like you were having fun the last time,â Luigi answered honestly. Â
âYouâve figured it out quicker than most,â Kamek said with a sigh. He lowered his wand. âFine. Fair enough. You seem like you have a decent head on your shoulders. Iâll do you the courtesy of not asking why youâre attempting to seduce the king.â
âIâm not â â Â
Kamek cut him off with a wave of his hand. âDonât waste my time trying to deny it. I just hope you know what youâre getting yourself into. His Majesty can be a bit much.â
âI have experience dealing with big personalities.â
Kamek clicked his tongue in annoyance. âHis personality isnât the only thing thatâs big about him. I suggest you take advantage of your time here and do your research on mushrooms. Their effects can be quite useful to someone in your situation. The last thing I need is to mop you off the bedroom floor.â
Without another word, Kamek vanished into a puff of sparks. Bowser must have learned it from him, Luigi thought as he smoothed back his hair. And was that old turtle seriously suggesting
It was entirely possible heâd bitten off more than he could chew, but for once in his life heâd managed to make a decision on his own. Heâd just have to live with the consequences. Hopefully said consequences wouldnât be too unpleasant; he could happily live the rest of his natural life without ever seeing lava again.
He hadnât intended to seduce anyone, but that hardly mattered. Bowser didnât outright reject him, and that was a victory worth celebrating. Heâd just have to wait and see what happened next. For the time being, it probably wouldnât hurt to experiment with mushrooms. Why not. After all, he might just have a date with a fire-breathing dragon. What could possibly go wrong?

Name: Clawdia Koopa
Debut: Super Mario Bros.
If youâve ever tried to take a closer look at the Mario series lore, youâll realize one thing⊠it is not very consistent! Mario games are filled with little discrepancies, and of course, plenty of obscure and forgotten characters were practically retconned by the series! And of these, who has suffered a worse fate than Clawdia Koopa?
If you were a gaming fan during the 80s and 90s, you will surely remember Clawdia Koopa, the beloved and female wife of the fearsome King Koopa! She may not have shown up much, but her impact on the Mario world was felt everywhere!
Who could forget making it all the way to the end of the NES game, squaring off against the frightening Bowser himself⊠only to find out, he was even more scared of his wife than you were of him! As the king of the Koopas cowers before his nagging old ball & chain, Mario, who is in no committed relationship, is able to jump over their heads and grab the ax, sending them both plummeting into lava!
Though their relationship may have had a rocky start, it seems the two were still able to settle down and start a family. Just take a look at this letter Bowser sends you in Super Mario Bros. 3!
Yup, this game introduced the Koopalings, and as Nintendo made very clear, Clawdia was their mother! Not only did the game manual reiterate this fact, it also included some pretty detailed pictures of Clawdia in labor, giving birth to each of the seven! Theyâre a bit too graphic to reproduce here, but itâs awesome they went that far to flesh out the worldbuilding!
So, if Bowser was married, why did he keep kidnapping Princess Peach? Maybe their marriage wasnât actually going that great? You see, if you were to 100% Super Mario World twice over, you would actually get to see a secret message written by Bowser:
Itâs pretty heavy stuff, and Nintendo hid this message for only the most dedicated of Mario fans! And sure enough, things would only go downhill from here⊠In Hotel Mario, Bowser would build seven Koopa Hotels just to stay away from his wife, and Clawdia hasnât been seen in any games since⊠All the fans who never got this message were pretty confused, wondering where Clawdia Koopa had gone⊠and they were even more confused with the release of Super Mario Sunshine!
This game introduced Bowser Jr., and he was supposed to be Bowserâs new child! Not only were the Koopalings not mentioned at all, but Clawdia was nowhere to be found, either! Instead, Bowser Jr. kept referring to Peach as his âmamaâ, but she turns out to not be his mother either! Whatâs going on? If Clawdia and Bowser really did get divorced, then where did Bowser Jr. come from?
Things got even worse when Shigeru Miyamoto was interviewed in 2012, saying âOur current story is that the seven Koopalings are not Bowser's children. Bowser's only child is Bowser Jr., and we do not know who the mother is.â When asked about Clawdia Koopa, Miyamoto ended the interview abruptly. So whatâs going on here? Is there some sort of conspiracy to cover up Clawdia Koopa? Who would benefit from this, and why?
Well, it turns out the real culprit may have been right in front of us all along! Bowser actually DID remarry, and the mother of Bowser Jr. is none other than Miyamoto himself! After becoming Bowserâs wife, Miyamoto became jealous of Bowserâs ex-wife, suspecting he still had feelings for her. So Miyamoto went and changed the official story, acting like the Koopalings were never Bowserâs kids to begin with! It was quite a petty move on his part, but since Mario canon is in his hands, there was nothing we could do to stop himâŠ
Clawdia may be gone, but I wonât let this revisionist view of history take place! Most Mario fans today have never even heard of Clawdia Koopa, and thatâs sad⊠But Iâm not afraid to say her name! This International Womenâs Day, I will be changing my full legal name to Clawdia Koopa in her memory, and I hope anyone who stands with me will do the same! After all, if we let Miyamoto get away with this, who knows what he will do next? He might even try to sully the name of Morton Koopa Sr.!

Teehee Mareach and Luaisy fan children
(Didn't feel like drawing so used picrew for these + why they're POC? Because I made princess peach, Daisy and most of the Mario characters POC for my Au. Gave Daisy a last name too, Daisy Azalea)
1. Peonia Pera LâAlbicocca Toadstool (18 years old)
2. Molise Giacinta Toadstool (11 years old)
3. Lusia Tuscany Azalea (18 years old)
Have info for these three if y'all wanna read.
Firstly Peonia
Peonia, the elder daughter of Mario and Peach, is a strong-willed and independent young lady who is passionate about racing and competes in roller shaking competitions. Despite her sweet demeanor, she can be quite sassy and stubborn, especially when it comes to protecting her cousin and brother. Despite her love for girly things and her admiration of vintage fashion and makeup, Peonia is also an adrenaline junkie and loves high-risk taking. She is a champion roller shaker and often hangs out with a group of friends at her school, some of whom are gyaru girls.Peonia's physique takes after her mother's side of the family, giving her a thicker body structure, and she was bullied for her Italian accent as a child. Despite this, she has embraced her curly hair as well as the tooth gap that she is self-conscious about. She is a fan of horror shows and movies, especially those that involve horror romance and found family storylines. Peonia's favorite dessert is strawberry shortcake, and she enjoys watching magical girl shows in her spare time. She loves to playfully embarrass her siblings, especially her baby brother, and is fiercely protective of them.
Secondly Molise
Molise, the baby brother of Mario and Peach, is a child. At times, he can be a bit of a brat and wants to take control of situations, leading to him being quite bossy. However, he means well and is genuinely naive and smart even despite his young age. Despite his occasional bratty behavior, he has a kind heart and cares deeply for his family and friends.Molise shares some of his mother's traits, such as his pointy ears, and blonde hair. He's a bit of a neat freak and prefers to wear protective gear whenever he plays outside, so his clothes remain clean and dry. He has a blunt and honest personality. Also prone to being quite clingy and a bit spoiled at times. He also likes to keep himself entertained by watching cartoons and cheesy TV shows from the 90s and early 2000s, and playing card games. However, he's not a fan of horror movies, and in fact, he hates being scared or feeling spooked in any way.He is quite picky and tends to stick to the foods he likes. His favorite snacks include cookies, and he loves sharing Cassata ice-cream cake with his family. He's also not a fan of fart jokes or gross humor, finding them to be immature and childish.
Thirdly Lusia
Lusia, the only child of Daisy and Luigi, is an avid sports enthusiast and lover of literature. She shares some of her mother's fiery determination but is also known for her nervous nature, something she inherits from her father. Despite being a bit self-conscious about her appearance at times, Lusia finds solace in the fact that she has a sassy cousin in Peonia who helps boost her self-esteem.Lusia is particularly passionate about baseball and archery, two activities that she enjoys thoroughly. Though she loves sports and reading, she can sometimes overwork herself and is guilty of comparing herself to others, especially with respect to her body type. Lusia is a lean and athletic woman, stands 5â8ft tall and wears braces thanks to a childhood habit of eating metal. She has sharp fangs, and also has freckles with light black spots due to acne. Her favorite outfits are sporty ones and hates wearing dull and boring clothes but on weekends she prefers comfort and rides her skateboard while sipping her ice slushie. Lusia strives to live a comfortable and relaxing life, but sometimes she just can't control the urge to be active and adventurous.

Wiggy Wednesdayđ§ đȘ± - A Robin (Buckley) Hood au
tagged by @just-my-latest-hyperfixation @shares-a-vest and @hotluncheddie Thanks guys!!! đđ«đ
continue-the-game tags at the bottom, you guys absolutely don't have to read this whole thing for it, it won't hurt my feelings cause this thing got long sgnxgnxnh
đ>> EDIT: @carolperkinsexgirlfriend expanded on the aro robin thing and its literal perfection!! <<đ
tbh the past few days ive felt like i was loosing my spark a bit (could be a medication thing now that i think about it) so the plans for today are to rewatch some really damn good motion pictures, feel some emotions probably, and go from there.
having said that, i was able to put together a fun little idea about Robin Stranger Things as Robin Hood, Steve and Little John, either Vickie or Chrissy as Maid Marian. Chrissy would fit the secretly badass princess type very well, thinking princess peach in the mario movie, while vickie would be slightyyy more tough girl princess, thinking fiona from the first shrek. I'm not like a huge fan of slapping character names into roles just because, so i think most antagonists would be of the robin-hood-world and some might get left out. Dustin and Erica would be there, possibly as merry men, or i also think itd be cool to mix another vaguely-medieval story that fits the kids group better, have it be something in the backstory or future or something like a story living in the edges of this one. Eddies also an easy fit as the minstrel and could be tied to chrissy's story too if you want
im not planning on writing anything for it, but the story ideas that are jumping out to me rn are mostly characters meeting/origin stories. Steve and Robin meet early on in her outcastery, Robin in jail for stealing and Steve also locked up close by either for something outrageously stupid or something definitely illegal but for the sake of his little brother and friends. They swap stories and then swap even more jokes and fun banter. Either Robin loops him in on her plan to break out, or Dustin and Erica come to break Steve out during her escape and they all team up. Maybe a little part where they visit Dustin and friends, let him know Steve's fine even tho him and Robin are fugitives, maybe Dustin tries to follow them but they have to send him back until he's old enough to move out, an emotional "we're not gone forever" talk, concluding with Robin and Steve heading off to camp in the woods and figure out what's next. maybe robin comes out here, maybe steve had confessed and whatnot similar to the show, maybe robin just needed to establish that she's not into him before they started adventuring just the two of them. Maybe she mentions her future plans, to stay firmly on the laws bad side, maybe to reunite with the lady she found at the edge of palace gardens, something that would make the road alongside her rougher than his already will be, and Steve chooses to join her anyway.
also a romantic subplot with Chrissy or Vickie.
if its chrissy, i think itd go similarly to the disney movie (relative to vickie's anyway), chrissy has her princessy life and through circumstance (maybe an archery contest, maybe they run into each other, probably a combination of run-ins) they meet and are into each other, maybe Robin crossdresses and after she's revealed to be a girl Chrissy's head over heels, maybe Chrissy runs away, maybe robin wins her favor, lots of fun princess tropes to play with.
with vickie, i keep leaning into the Fiona-style angle where she very much doesn't care to be in a royal setting, not rejecting femininity just spinning the princess archetype on its head. So maybe she's a runaway, maybe she rescued herself, or maybe she faked her death or something extreme, and she runs into robin (maybe robins disguised and she looks extra rougish, maybe vickie had only heard bad stories about her) and they fight. if vickie wins she notices in her victory robins actual personality, realizes shes not aggressive like expected and they talk, and if robin wins she does a mercy thing, maybe disarms her to get enough time to run off and vickies like đ€šmysteriousđ€š or they spark up conversation. Maybe part of Robins group comes in either ready to defend her or diffuse the situation and their appearance soon splits the fight. lots and lots to play with. one way or another vickie tags along or joins the group, she and robin fall in love, yippee
aaaand third option: polyarmory, where chrissy joins the group first, they run into vickie second, and the three of them fall in love.
fourth option: aro robin (lol get it. cause. arrows.) who picks up princesses (plus steve too) like its her job and those princesses fall in love
r*nance (* for search because this isn't exactly abt them, NOT to be a dick about it) could work too ig but its not my jam so im not diving into that angle
i also love the idea of expanding robins relationship with any of the kids (Dustin and especially Erica, because scoops troop has solid character dynamic potential thats barely touched. Robin and Max too, and it'd make sense to bring in Lucas too with his ties to both Erica and Max)
if this gives anyone else brainworms and you want to write it, absolutely go for it, i know im definitely not going to sit down and write scenes or anything for it, and if you're comfortable tag me so i can read it!!

@angelxd-3303's Mario au has taken over my life in the best way possible, so Iâve got some headcanons that have been spinning in my head for a while and wanted to share. (Some of the ones with Mario are based on my dad.)
The first time Bowser saw Luigi be reckless and try and pet a piranha plant, he picked him up like a mama cat picking up a kitten by the scruff of its neck.
Mario used steal borrow VHS tapes of Disney movies and watch them with Luigi on an old TV he managed to fix up. (Luigiâs favourite was beauty and the beast.)
Luigi and Daisy are actually childhood friends and she decided to go look for him when he and Mario went missing. She arrived in Sarasaland through the pipe and after defending it from Tatanga, and finding Mario and Luigi, the citizens of that desert kingdom decide to make her their princess. âWait, Iâm a princess now?....aaaahhhhh!!!!â Yeah, she kind of freaked out a little bit.
Despite how warm it is in the Darklands, Luigi still gets chilled quite easily, so Bowser is more than happy to keep him warm.
(This is based off my dad) Mario LOVES Taylor Swift, specifically her more country themed songs and constantly belts them out. Peach thinks its adorable, Luigi is begrudgingly used to it after listening to Marioâs singing for years.
Contrary to everyoneâs beliefs, DK prefers strawberries to bananas.
Kamek and Peach get together to gossip with each other and talk about the latest fashion trends. Sometimes they bicker about who should get the best dresses for Luigi.
(Based off my dad again) Mario loves to knit, whenever winter comes round, he loves for everyone. Heâs knitted little scarfs for the toads, a sweater dress for Peach, a jumper for Luigi, a blanket for Bowser (due to him being a reptile and cold-blooded) and gloves for DK. He even knits the ugliest Christmas sweaters for everyone when the holiday comes around.
The first time Luigi wore a dress was when he was five. It was a Belle dress that Daisy got him (since she knew beauty and the beast was his favourite movie) but the moment Giovanna found him wearing it, he made Luigi throw it in the trash while Aurora stood there and watched, wanting to intervene but couldnât find it within herself to go against her husband. Luigi let Mario hold him as he cried.
The second time Luigi wore a dress was when he was captured by Bowser and dressed as Princess Peach to help Bowser practice with his proposal. He loved it so much that Kamek took note to make a green one for outside of rehearsals.
When the koopalings are playing a video game with a really hard level, they always get Luigi to help them finish it.
Peach and Daisy invite Wendy around for a regularly scheduled girlsâ night and play dress-up together, do make-up and nails and watch the sappiest rom coms. Mario joins in occasionally, though he always cries when watching the movies.
Bowser used to have an alliance with King Boo after his father passed, but one day, before they got together, Luigi came to visit Bowser and the latter noticed the bruises and the tired look in his eyes, he tenderly lifts Luigiâs chin with his finger and asks, âWho did this to you?â (You know that classic trope.) Â Luigi then explains how he tried to look for Mario and got trapped in a haunted mansion and tried to fight off the boos and their king. Bowser is enraged at the thought of the poltergeist hurting his closest friend and breaks off their alliance.
After King Boo finds out about that, he tries to hunt down Luigi. He gives the plumber and few scrapes, but before he could do any proper damage, Bowser is crouched over Luigi in an instant, protecting his from King Boo and demands that the ghost to not even look in his direction unless he wants to find out if he can die a second time.
Bowser is the type of guy that is âdad gets attached to a dog he doesnât wantâ with Polterpup. This first time Luigi brings him home, the kids love the pup, but Bowser is a bit uneasy and jealous since he used to work with King Boo (even though Polterpup was controlled by the ghostly king), but overtime he comes to adore the pooch and spoils him with treats and toys.
Mario and Peach both wore dresses on their wedding day. Peach wore the most poofy, sparkly and pinkest wedding dress you could ever imagine (a pink version of the dress that Amy Adams wore in âEnchantedâ) while Mario wore something close to the wedding dress from Odyssey.
There are times when Mario clings to Donkey Kongâs back and just buries himself in his fur because its so soft and warm and it makes him feel safe. However, DK doesnât even feel Mario doing that and constantly thinks that the plumber is missing when really, heâs just fallen asleep clinging to his back.
Junior loves it when his uncle Mario throws him up into the air and catches him, as if he weighed at much as a basketball being sent soaring into the sky.
Since they were on the run, Luigi didnât see Daisy since his parents left and only reunited when he and Mario started their business.
Peachâs favourite colour is the most specific shade of pink. Whenever you ask her, she always says that her favourite is a âsweet pea pinkâ.
(Another one based off my dad) a jackdaw bird sometimes flies into the garden of the mushroom palace and comes very friendly and close with Mario. He starts leaving food and water out for her and names her Peggy. She kind of becomes his âunofficial petâ.
(This one is based off me and my dad) Marioâs favourite movie growing up was âHow To Train Your Dragonâ and introduced Luigi to it while they were still young. They grew up with the trilogy (they sobbed at the end of the third movie) until they fell throw the pipes.
Luigi glows whenever heâs happy, due to his thunderhand. Whenever he gets excited, he starts glowing like a star. Bowser finds it both adorable and beautiful.
Mia â Marioâs cat â was actually a stray when they found her. Once they took her in and nursed her back to health, they realised that she had a good temperament to be a therapy animal for Mario. Theyâve been inseparable ever since. Both she and Polterpup are very close and love whenever their owners meet up so they can play.
Bowser reads to Luigi at night to help him sleep. Even if he wakes up in the middle of the night from a nightmare, Bowser will always read to him until he feels safe enough to fall back to sleep.
Luigi is also an insomniac to whenever he canât sleep, he bakes instead. Bowser found him one night taking cookies out the oven, picked him up and carried him back to bed.
This is all Iâve got for now, there might be more soon. I hope yaâll like them.

Exploring the Ice King (2)
The Ice King was created to have a dual function within Adventure Time. In the previous post we explored the function that was ultimately given to him, the "recurring but ineffective, main but pathetic villain that ultimately isn't so much of a threat as a familiar face". In this second post I want to talk about the Ice King's first function in the show: the character was created to manifest within Adventure Time the archetype of the "princess snatcher".
Adventure Time was very heavily inspired by old and famous video games - and one of the recurring scenarios in these vintage classics was "Save the princess". The Ice King was literaly an embodiment of the "save the princess" scenario that Finn lives through, as the archetypal "hero".
It is no wonder that when the infamous show "Drawn Together" had a character to parody video games as a whole, the writers literaly introduced Xandir as being stuck in an endless loop of saving his girlfriend, and their main subversion of the genre was him discovering he was gay along and setting on a "never-ending quest to save his boyfriend".
To go back to the direct "cultural predecessors" of the Ice King, I can list of course, Bowser from Super Mario with his Peach obsession...
... or the Legend of Zelda franchise, which also explores the "recurring saving of a princess" motif and was a HEAVY heavy inspiration for Adventure Time (Link is literaly Finn).
That being said, Adventure Time isn't just inspired by video games: it is also inspired by fairytales. It is a more minor influence, but it shows (especially in early episodes like "The Witch's Garden") - and of course, when it comes to fairytale tropes, the motif of the princess-snatcher is one of the most famous in popular culture. That's where we have a twist, as the "famous" princess snatcher is... the dragon
Which results in a great irony when you consider that here the princess-snatcher is a being of ice, snow and cold, the very reverse of the fiery, volcanic dragon.
As a French person, I also can't help but drop a quick mention of our national wife-killer and collector, Bluebeard, who shares the blue-motif and the fabulous facial hair with our lonely icey king...
But many people have rather drawn parallels to another villainous figure of fairytales. Due to the motif of the king ruling over a land of eternal winter, and his last name turning out to be "Petrikov", aka Russian-sounding, some people have wondered if he wasn't based on Koshchei the Deathless...
If you do not know about him, Koshchei the Deathless is one of the two recurring villains of Russian fairytales (as collected and shaped by Afanassiev), the male counterpart to Baba Yaga. Just like Baba Yaga is a composite, multi-character which gathers under one figure and one name various roles and functions scattered throughout many different fairytales (the hag/crone, the wicked witch, the benevolent sorceress, the child-eating ogress, the creepy fairy, the wild woman, the helpful woman of the woods, the mother of the dragon, the guardian of the otherworld...), Koshchei (or Koschei, or various other spelling) fills the role of many, many different types of male fairytale antagonists. He is at the same time the evil, tyrannical king whose rule must be overthrown... the evil sorcerer casting curses everywhere... and the lustful and depraved snatcher of princesses and kidnapper of queens who the hero must rescue his fiancée from... Add to that the fact that Koshchei is typically described as a very old, creepy or ugly looking man, and that he is near-immortal...
Well not exactly immortal but "deathless", as in he removed his "death" (or "mortality") and hid it away, so that nobody could unleash it upon him. It is a thing many antagonists in fairytales do - in Europe fairytales will rather speak of a "Soulless Body" or a "Heartless Giant"... "Heartless" huh? A villain who kidnaps women to force them to be his bride, and to become immortal hides away his heart and thus lives without it... *the shadow of Ricardio is looming on the horizon*
Speaking of dragons, I also want to talk about the original Gunther and how he turned into the first "Ice King". I can't help but find a strange parallel between the story of Gunther and Evergreen, and the backstory invented for the main villain of the "Conan the Adventurer" cartoon. This 90s cartoon, if you don't know, is an attempt at adapting Conan the Barbarian's adventures... FOR KIDS! Yeah a very strange choice... The main antagonist (which is a melting pot of various literary antagonists of Conan) is the evil sorcerer Wrath-Amon, who turns out at a later point to have originally be some sort of monstrous reptile that another evil sorcer, Thoth-Amon, gave powers and a human shape to... Only for the reptilian apprentice to take over his master and replace him. And I couldn't help remembering how the little Gunther dinosaur literaly became Evergreen by learning magic through his master.

The Princess Shroob Usurper Theory
Note as of 11-12-2023: The idea of this post is somewhat based on and inspired by this old GameFAQs thread I read many years ago. I had forgotten where exactly I had read this and thought it was old YouTube comments or some other place, but found the thread again today. So credit to wiiking96 for the inspiration.
The Shroobs are an alien race from the Mario series and the main antagonists in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Due to their planet dying out, they sought a new home and invaded the Mushroom Kingdom in the time when Mario was still a baby. The rulers of this species are two characters with the same name, the two Princesses Shroob. They are sisters, though the existence of the elder sister is kept a secret for most of the game. The elder Princess Shroob acts as the secret final boss of Partners in Time and her existence is foreshadowed at various moments throughout the game. The relation between the two Princesses Shroob from the perspective of the younger sister is not explored a lot in the game however, likely in part to keep the twist intact. However, as this theory will argue, the younger Princess Shroob and her people might also have motivations to not acknowledge the existence of her sister for most of the game.
Pieces of the Cobalt Star
One of the first places the Shroobs attacked when they arrived on earth was the Mushroom Castle. Around the same time as this, a time machine from the future with Princess Peach, Toadiko and Toadbert arrived in the castle. According to Peach just before the true final boss, immediately upon exiting the time machine, the trio was greeted by the two Princesses Shroob. The elder princess attacked, but Peach grabbed the Cobalt Star powering the time machine. She trapped the elder princess inside the star, upon which it shattered in six pieces. Peach was then captured by the younger princess Shroob and taken away, while Toadiko was brought to Toadwood Forest by the Shroobs and Toadbert was swallowed by Yoob at some point.
The main quest of Partners in Time involves retrieving the pieces of the Cobalt Star, as they were scattered to various places at some point after the Shrboosâ initial take-over of the Mushroom Castle and Toad Town. The locations we find some of these pieces in offer the first leg of the theory. But first, a rundown of where the pieces are found and how they likely ended up there:
Inside a treasure chest in Bowserâs Castle. The piece was likely brought here by Baby Bowserâs minions, as Baby Bowser identifies it as his treasure after the fight with Swiggler. They may have grabbed the piece from the Mushroom Castle, as he was in it around the same time when Peach, Toadbert and Toadiko arrived from the future.
Held by Swiggler in the Shroobsâ Vim Factory. The piece was likely put there by the Shroobs, as Swiggler is important for their infrastructure, since it creates the fuel for their UFOs.
Held by Petey Piranha, who lurks in the Gritzy Caves. Given that Petey Piranha was likely engineered by the Shroobs and they feed Peach to it at one point, it is likely the Shroobs put the Cobalt Star shard in Petey as well.
Sealed in a glass sphere in the Star Shrine. It is unclear how a part got to this location, given the Shroob presence in the area is low and none of the other characters in the Mushroom Castle at the time are known to have gone to the Star Shrine prior to the Mario Brothers collecting the piece.
Held by Toadbert, who likely grabbed a piece when the Cobalt Star first shattered.
Held by Princess Peach, who likely grabbed a piece when the Cobalt Star first shattered.
On the whole, it thus seems the Cobalt Star pieces were taken and moved by those who were in the Mushroom Castle at the time. Peach and Toadbert likely took their pieces to stop the elder Princess Shroob from being reformed and Baby Bowser took his piece because he thought it was a shiny treasure. But why would the Shroobs take two pieces and keep them knowingly apart from each other? Would they not want to free their monarch and so keep the pieces together? Of note is also that Peach was captured by the Shroobs and she is kept apart from the other pieces as well for the most part (except for the time she spent in Petey Piranhaâs belly). It does give the impression that they are trying to keep the pieces apart deliberately, but as to why this might be the case, further evidence needs to be examined.
The attitude of the younger Princess Shroob
For most of Partners in Time, the younger Princess Shroob is thought to be the leader of the Shroobs. This is to keep the existence of the elder Princess Shroob a secret from the player, but the actions and words of the younger Princess Shroob seem to show she also considers herself the singular leader of her people. As mentioned before, she does not acknowledge the existence of her sister for most of the game. Instead of seeking her sisterâs liberation also, she organizes a grand ceremony at the Koopaseum where Peach is fed to Petey Piranha. This seems to be an execution ceremony celebrating the Shroobsâ successful conquest of the Mushroom Kingdom, where the old kingdom is symbolically killed off.
Mario, Luigi and their baby selves go on to defeat Petey Piranha not long after this, but do not find Peach inside his belly. Instead, she was spat out and was later moved to Shroob Castle. The younger Princess Shroob also impersonates Peach. She is found by the four Mario Brothers and brought to the present, though later kidnapped again by Bowser and brought to the past. Kylie Koopa speculates that this was deliberate after this is found out aboard the Shroob Mother Ship:
âYou took that dame through a time hole to the future Mushroom Kingdom? Are you saying you think that was Princess Shroobâs plan all along? Talk about a twist! Yeah, she sets herself up as Princess Peach and infiltrates Peachâs Castle in the future⊠What sheâs really after⊠is the chance to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom of your time, too! The gall of this gal!â
So her celebration of the successful conquest of the Mushroom Kingdom in the past leads directly into a plan to start conquering the Mushroom Kingdom of the present. The younger Princess Shroob is power hungry and has her sights set on even more conquest, instead of freeing or even acknowledging her sister. A quote from the princess herself just before she is fought sums the attitude up quite well: âThis kingdom is mine!â Contrast this to how the elder Princess Shroob describes her goals for conquest after her defeat:
âOne day, the Shroobs will dance on the buried remains of this pathetic kingdomâŠâ. She seems to see it as more of a shared goal, while her younger sister sees it as her own ambition as the sole ruler of the Shroobs.
This attitude can also be seen in the design of the Shroob Castle. It is only after the elder Princess Shroob being sealed away, that the Mushroom Castle was converted into Shroob Castle. On the ground floor of the castle, a large statue of the younger Princess Shroob is present. However, this statue pales in comparison to the identical but gigantic statue of the younger princess that stands atop the castle. And inside, on one of its highest floors, we find a room with a single throne. Not two. The castle is clearly solely designed for the younger Princess Shroob, with no design hints of the elder Princess Shroob anywhere.
A related aspect is the UFO that the younger Princess Shroob uses as her vehicle at various points through the game: The Shroob Mother Ship. It is the largest and most dangerous Shroob UFO that the Shroobs seem to have in their arsenal, but it is not the only unique and large UFO in the game. A second one is found on the second floor of Shroob Castle and it bears several design similarities to the Shroob Mother Ship, but is noticeably smaller and is never used by the Shroobs. It is just laying around in the castle, allowing the Mario Brothers to take out several smaller Shroob UFOs. The intended occupant seems to be missing or not using this UFO. Perhaps this then is the UFO actually belonging to the younger Princess Shroob, while the Mother Ship she pilots actually belongs to her elder sister, given the elder princess is presumably considered of higher authority than the younger one. This would explain the existence of the smaller, unique Shroob UFO which is nonetheless still similar in design to the Mother Ship.
The idea that the younger Princess Shroob usurped the place of her elder sister as the supreme leader of their people and deliberately ignored her existence seems fairly likely from these pieces of evidence. A final relevant aspect is that the younger Princess Shroob is demonstrably aware of how to free her elder sister. After she is defeated is the only time she acknowledges the existence of the elder princess in the game: âNow itâs your turn, sis...ter!!!â Not long after this, Baby Bowser takes the final piece of the Cobalt Star from Princess Peach and the elder Princess Shroob is revived. The younger Princess Shroob thus knows how her sister can be freed and on top of that, knows it is imminent. As a last-ditch effort to crush the Mario Brothers, she gives her sister a chance to do so. The only time the younger princess acknowledges the elder one, is when she is on the verge of ultimate defeat and needs her sister to do the heavy lifting.
The role of the Shroob people
But if the younger Princess Shroob orchestrated a plot to keep her sister sealed, what is the role of the Shroobs as a whole in this? First of all, are they aware of the elder princessâs sealing? A crowd of Shroobs is shown to have been present when it happened in a flashback that happens when speaking to Toadiko. While the elder Princess Shroob is not shown in the flashback, she is seemingly indirectly mentioned by Peach in the Japanese version of the game. She specifically says: âăăȘăăăĄăŻäœè
ă§ăăăŁ!?â (DeepL translation: âWho are you people?â). Of note is the use of âăăȘăăăĄâ, a second-person pronoun. While she could be addressing the crowd, she only says it after Princess Shroob enters the frame. It might be that the elder princess is lurking just off-screen in this flashback. Either way, the Shroobs would be aware.
They also clearly go along with the plot. Shroobs actively guard one of the pieces within the Vim Factory. Furthermore, on two occasions when the Mario Brothers are about to learn the existence of the elder Princess Shroob, the Shroobs intervene so they donât. The first is in Toadwood Forest when Toadiko explains what happened after she, Toadbert and Princess Peach first arrived in the past. When she is about to discuss the Cobalt Star, Shroob UFOs appear and turn her into a purple Mushroom. Later, in the Star Shrine, Toadbert reveals on a dirty sketch he gave Mario earlier a drawing of a second Princess Shroob. When he is about to explain what the second Princess Shroob is, the Elder Shrooboid intervenes and similarly turns Toadbert into a purple Mushroom. A third instance of this happens at Shroob Castle when Princess Peach is about to mention the elder princess, but she is interrupted by an attack from the Shroob Mother Ship. This is more likely a coincidence however, given there is no way the Shroobs or Princess Shroob were in earshot of Peach at the time. The first two instances do give the impression that the Shroobs do not want the Mario Brothers to learn about the elder Princess Shroob however. But why is that?
When the elder Princess Shroob is fought at the end of the game, there is a certain pattern in her attacks. In the first phase of the fight, a Shroob UFO may occasionally bring her a drink to heal. Her reaction is to immediately knock the UFO away. In the second phase of the battle, one of her common attacks involves her shooting an energy ball at some UFOs, which make them malfunction and fall on the Mario Brothers. At times, she may combine this with summoning a time hole and sending her subjects forward in time. This gives the impression of a ruler, who despite not being as despotic as her younger sister in her motives, is crueler to her people. She abuses them and is not above using them as weapons against her enemies. The younger Princess Shroob never displays such behavior during the game and in several instances is similarly brought a drink by one of her subjects. In such cases, she does not kick them away and simply stands by. Given this, the Shroobs might cooperate with the plot because the younger princess treats them with more respect than her elder sister and does not abuse them.
Conclusion
The idea is thus clear: in Partners in Time, there is a story about internal Shroob politics happening in the background. Upon the sealing of the elder Princess Shroob, the younger princess Shroob and the Shroobs as a whole decided to keep her sealed. The younger princess did it because she was power-hungry and the Shroob people did it because the elder princess was a physically abusive ruler. The younger Princess Shroob acts like she is the only ruler of the Shroobs, while the pieces of the Cobalt Star are intentionally kept apart and anyone who speaks of the elder Princess Shroob is silenced. The elder princess Shroob seems none the wiser in the end however, as she describes her sister as follows: âAnd my sister⊠My dear, sweet, beautiful sister⊠I will avenge her!â The elder princessâs goal throughout the game is focused solely on freeing herself and she does not seem to be aware of the potential plot concocted by her sister and people.
