I find it funny that Wild, who has basically a couple years ish of full life experience, comes up with the most insane theories for everything
He assumed that the only other explanation to Four being able to split in Four was. That he was quadruplets who'd been hiding this whole time???
Tumblr media
Also apparently he believed that his wolf companion Twilight in botw was a diety (and felt very uhh shocked upon finding out that he was not)
Tumblr media
Malon made things worse, telling him about her aliens theory
Tumblr media
What's even FUNNIER is that every time Wild expresses any sort of confusion at magic stuff that he's never seen before, everyone else in the chain acts like it's crazy for him to be weirded out by it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly maybe Wild's the only one with his head on straight, rather than everyone else who are just like 'it's magic bro' like no he's right this is weird
I appreciate this because it's very considerate of the fact that he woke up with no memories not too long ago, so he doesn't have much experience to explain the stuff that's 'normal' for the chain. Plus the explanations he comes up with are funny.

"Waaaah I can't ship samewada because wada looks so child-coded and samekichi is too tall he looks like an adult" Yall have clearly never read the wikia's information that literally explicitly revealed their ages (they are ADULTS) and it shows. Yall have also never clearly obviously went outside and touched grass more because height difference couples exist irl. Yall have clearly never went outside and touched even more grass because petite short adult woman exists irl. Go outside and touch grass

Hi P’abl!!
Basically, I died back in early July and have missed all things BL, GL, and all the works. I tried to figure out on my own, but I just keep running into spoilers of things I didn’t know had even aired!
Could you just give me a rundown of what’s been going on/happened? I honestly trust you with my life now~
In the last 3 months? Sure:
(I feel like this should be sung to We Didn't Start the Fire)
Tumblr media
Wandee Goodday 9/10
Such a FUN show. A charming quintessentially modern Thai BL about a doctor and a boxer who start as a one night stand and then fall in love. Great rep for everything from Muay Thai, to safe sex, to FUN sex, to ace, to bisexuality, to smiley kisses, to the first legal gay wedding in a Thai BL. It’s a delight and I enjoyed (almost) every single moment of it.
Tumblr media
Century of Love 9/10
This is a great little show about a young man who fell in love with a pretty girl 100 years ago, and when she died in his arms, he was cursed to live until he could meet her reborn self. Only this time around, she’s reborn into the body of a man. I love it when Thailand gets all up in its own historical business and reincarnation and shizz.
I like this pair. (It’s not DaouOffroad’s fault I didn’t enjoy most of their first series.) Daou’s wushu is pretty snazzy and we got a fun meet cute. (Erm… Remeet cute? Meet cute 2.0?) Plus this is a very PRETTY show. Despite some ham handed comedy moments, this ultimately has more in common with something like I Feel You Linger in the Air meets First Love Again, then (as one might expect) Until We Meet Again or The Director Who Buys Me Dinner.
The leads turned in great performances, although Daou outclassed everybody else on that screen. It’s a good story and a great BL. I’m not sure this is going in my rewatch rotation, but I can’t find any major faults with it beyond a certain level of camp that is sadly endemic to lackorns. Also I’m going to give it credit as the kind of BL that one could safely recommend to lovers of melodrama and historical romance, without having to qualify it as “good for a BL.” It was, to put it succinctly, simply a VERY ENJOYABLE show.
Tumblr media
We Are 9/10
We Are was slow to find its stride (I didn’t get into it until ep 7) but I’m very glad I gave it a chance. It’s a soft ensemble piece with multiple couples and very little plot, but I didn’t care because it’s not trying to be anything more substantial. Essentially this was a series of vignettes covering one year of uni for a queer friendship group finding love, new friends, and laughter. It’s not being harsh with us or it’s characters the way some offerings of this ilk have been (side eyes Friend Zone and Only Friends) nor did it tumble into Gen Y chaos.
In fact, this reminded me more than anything of a refined and elevated Love Sick - just with older characters and occurring within a genre that has matured too. It has that close queer friendship group meets earnest gentleness that made me adore Love Sick so much. In other words, this was Thai BL at its finest, finding it roots again 10 years on, but also stretching upwards and showing us what it could do with that original seed. So? I loved it. Did it blow my mind? No. But it left me smiling and made me belly laugh quite a bit.
Tumblr media
Cosmetic Playlover 9/10
I loved this little show. It was a classic office BL about the older workaholic who loves his job and the younger upstart who unexpectedly loves his boss. It’s a hyung romance where everybody is extremely earnest and sweet and pretty about everything. Except our seme, who is slightly unhinged and a little obsessed in all the ways one likes best from Japan. Plus the kisses were good! I can’t ask for anything more, utterly charming unexpected gem. What a great time!
Tumblr media
The Rebound 9/10
This was a sports romance Thai BL pulp with everything I could have asked for given this sub genre. More, actually, since MeenPing are both great basketball players and the team component really did form part of the connective tissue of the show (vital in a sports romance). Meen has his shirt off within the first two minutes which is all I needed but he's still pretty great as the sullen secret keeper against Ping's cheerful survivor - childhood sweethearts torn asunder and now reunited. Then Frank sweeps in to give everyone a bad case of second lead syndrome.
I always try to judge BL for what it is AS BL, and what it’s trying to do within its own territory and purview. This did exactly what it claimed on the tin: gay boys play b-ball and fall in love. That was all I wanted from it. Sure there was random kidnapping and a light bought of mass murder, but what’s a BL in 2024 without a touch of the mafia? You do you little pulp, I’m disposed to be pleased.
Tumblr media
My Love Mix-Up (Thai Remake) 8/10
It was fine and it was charming, but it was also a little meh. Thailand managed to take one of Japan's softest cutest most bonkers BLs in recent memory and make it softer and cuter and… dull. They did this by watering it down. JBLs almost always have an edge to them, even the rom-coms, by dulling the edge, MLMU lost a great deal of the sparkle and tension as well. What an office setting managed to mostly maintain in the consummate hands of TayNew felt somewhat lackluster when handed off to the next generation and a high school setting. Cherry Magic was a lovely reinterpretation, Mix Up was an amateur's watercolor rendition of a colorful oil painting.
Am I being harsh? G4 tried their best, and Fourth turned in some outrageously good acting in the latter half. But the show? It was fine. If you like water colors and you haven't seen (and loved) Kieta Hatsukoi.
Tumblr media
This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans 8/10
A story about a kid who infiltrates a cooking competition under false pretenses and then has to deal with the consequences when he falls in love with the head chef. The side couple is a poor little rich boy meets physical therapist (morality chain). The core friendships are excellent and the chemistry cannot be faulted across the (charcuterie) board. What this show lacks in substance it makes up for in health code violations. It was all chili all the time.
Considering that the plot centered on betrayal but the romantic relationship never sweetened enough to balance that bitterness; one could be forgiven for throwing this one in the compost. But I got over all its weaknesses in flavor balancing for an ultimately satisfying meal, with a great dessert course. I've always loved spicy food. Plus the blooper reels were fantastic.
Tumblr media
My Stand-In 8/10
Adaptation of Chinese novel "Professional Body Double" by Shui Qiang Cheng. Stars Up (Lovely Writer) and Poom (Bake Me Please) directed by the same team as KinnPorsche.
Stuntman Joe dies on the job and wakes up in the body of another Joe with an entirely different life. But Joe just starts repeating the mistakes of his previous self - love, work, play.
I enjoyed the experience of watching this show, I looked forward to it every week. I thought everybody did a great job with it and in it, and I liked that is was something substantially different for Thai BL.
But I’m not sure I'll rewatch it or if it's bingeable. It left me feeling more sanguine than happy. Is there, objectively, anything wrong with it? No. But am I in love with it? No. I think that rests on the central characters, Ming in particular. I never liked him or warmed to them as a couple. I spent most of this show just very very sorry for poor Joe. Thus I was never rooting for their romance.
I would recommend it, if you enjoy your BL more cerebral, with complicated unlikable love interests, and a downtrodden sympathetic lead. Is it, perhaps, more JBL that ThBL? Am I biased because it's a Thai production and I had expectations? What magical carnage could Japan have done with this IP? I'm left with questions, but I'm ultimately glad I watched this.
Tumblr media
SunsetXVibes 8/10
Classic CEO meets ingenue archetypes make for a somewhat banal and simplistic romance. This could’ve come from an 80s Harlequin, except that they’re gay. It's… old fashioned. There was nothing meta about this, there was no subversion or commentary on anything BL, queer, or beyond. It’s just a straight up (okay not straight) romance. I was not wild about these characters for this particular pair, but that’s not the pair's fault, they did a decent job with their parts and I look forward to their next show - here’s hoping it’s a bit more meaty. I preferred the side couple because they were more complex and true to BL archetypes, even if they were also a bit miss-handled.
Ultimately? This is a serviceable show if somewhat lacking in its convictions, but with some beautiful sex scenes, people, and fashion. I was a particular fan of Lin‘s gender bending femme style. It’s groundbreaking to see that aesthetic on one of the leads. There were multiple times they could’ve leaned into well established plot points, paranormal elements, and character tension, and instead just glossed over them. This should probably get a 7/10, but I’m giving it an 8 because of that one oppa line at the beginning, Tenon's tatas, and the call back to Big Dragon with that iconic musical refrain in the final episode. It was a pretty fun ride, emphasis on pretty and ride.
Tumblr media
Love Sea 7/10
Same couple as LITA2 (FortPeat) , new characters to the Mameverse. While traveling a writer has a one night stand with a very irritating man (who also breaks into his hotel room, among other red flag agendas). FortPeat are hot and great together, the GL sides are problematic, neglected, and forgotten. Frankly, this is probably a 8/10 show but I’m mad I wasn’t madder at it, and I'm mad I was so bored throughout. So it gets a 7/10 and let us not speak of this again. I’d like to simply forget about it. Trash watch here.
Knock Knock Boys 7/10
A story about 4 boys of differing personalities who end up living together and pair up, falling in love. Slow moving and waffling, with some artificially generated family drama makes this a classic Thai pulp except that in general it's a smiley kiss of a show. It had plenty of good qualities like great communication and sexual rep (including toys, first time, safe sex, and sexual identities). The heat levels were on point and well executed, and the performances were good. It’s just that the script and the directing were lackluster, rendering it ultimately forgettable. Still, fine on a rainy afternoon with some camomile tea or whatever.
For what's currently airing go here.

I think it so easy to forget just how young Lando was when he came into F1. At eighteen, you are still trying to figure out who you are. With both Carlos and Daniel, he was always trying to mirror their energy and following their lead in social media. But in the last year he seems way more comfortable in himself and in expressing his true personality. Oscar didn’t know him as the young shy 18 year old who came into F1 so unsure of himself, and instead as the more mature young man who feels more comfortable in his place in the team and F1. With Oscar, at least in what we see in social media stuff, it feels like he’s allowing his true personality through, the more playful, silly, sarcastic but kind person. It seems like with Oscar he feels like he can be his more true self. It reminds me of Daniel talking about Lando’s “microphone voice”. It feels like with Oscar he doesn’t need to use a microphone voice and instead can just use his own voice.
oh but can I weave in here a couple of things? I so agree with you for the most part but just:
to me, the Carlos and Daniel eras represent Little Lando and he was always going to grow up and change from that. but I totally agree about him mirroring them bc if you remember his first interviews before and soon after starting his rookie season he was paaaaainfully shy. he spent half of them hiding behind the neck of his coat. it was so easy to just react to Carlos and then Daniel and turn to them whenever he got stuck or tongue-tied. it's why I'm a little hmmmmm when ppl say they want that Lando back. bc that "Lando" still didn't know how to let his personality show and he was just giggling and being a little bratty for fun. it was super cute and we got some classic content out of it but zero substance of who Lando was as a person. the only place we saw the more serious/authentic side of him was his own content and even there he was still in people pleasing mode.
the other thing is that we now know Oscar knew a LOT about who Lando was by the time they became teammates. and unlike Carlos and Daniel, Oscar was exactly the right age to watch a lot of Lando's streaming content and get him on that gen z level. thing is, we can see in all of Oscar's pre F1 media that he's not actually as quiet and lowkey as he's seems and that he actually had a real knack for memes and funny social media content. so to me, Oscar consciously decided to drop all of that and allowed himself to be as focused and quiet and nervous as he needed to be for his rookie season. he also was clearly pretty awed about being Lando's teammate and spent so much of that dry first half of the season staring at him and trying to interject the odd sentence so that Lando wasn't solely providing the content. and I think that's where Lando surprised everyone because apparently having a rookie to look after (and a rookie who had a celebrity crush on him) clearly worked great for grown Lando! he's looked non-frenetic and more genuine than we've ever known him in interviews and media and he's been incredibly mindful and pointed in making sure Oscar gets noticed and taken care of. Lando just looks... at ease with his role in a way he hasn't before. and the way Oscar's popped up all over Lando's content (and apparently recording even more we haven't seen yet) like someone showing off a new puppy is just <3
I feel like we've seen in real time how Lando's friendships with Carlos and Daniel turned from him being their little fanboy to being his equals professionally and grown up friends. it's why it's a little awkward when ppl try to car|ando their interactions now the way they were back when Lando was basically a kid. they're two men shooting the shit and having dinner and sure there's still a lot of jokes, but it's not all about Carlos and Lando doesn't need him to lead anymore. and obv Daniel experienced that growing up in real time a little more uncomfortably lol. but they're all good now.
but because Lando remembered how recently he was in Oscar's shoes - and esp when he realized how respectful Oscar was of him and how much he hung back to give Lando the rightful spotlight - the difference has been that Lando can put himself in Oscar's shoes in a way Carlos and Daniel couldn't with him. it's that thing I call The Yearning in a landoscar rpf way but in reality it's a very sweet thing of two young guys who are like 'toxic masculinity we don't know her?' so they're openly watching each other closely every time they interact and are so genuine about slowly building their relationship bc they just care so much. it matters to themselves, it matters for their working relationship and it matters for the team. who cares if it's not meme material or big laughs every time for viewers bc that's so far down on both their priorities.
and in that different relationship, you've got to love that Lando is standing up for himself and sometimes to journalists and the public even saying "I'm not happy with myself right now and sorry, I won't bring fun and jokey Lando out to play for you to make this easier to watch." and that as always, he doesn't take a single bit of that frustration with himself out on his team or his teammate. the Monza moment happened, got cleared up by him, and went away just as fast. I'll gladly say goodbye to cackle factory little Lando to acknowledge how responsible and proud Lando is about his role and his job now.

Cherry Magic Episode 4 Review - You're A Wizard, Tsuge
As the first half of the episode has shown, Tsuge has become a wizard now. Like Adachi, he has gained the power to listen to people’s hearts. How will Tsuge use this to find a love interest? Well, he found one already. That was darn freaking fast. Who does he fall in love with? The cute deliveryman Minato.
Tumblr media
I think their ship name is called Tsugemina. Anyways, Tsugemina’s portrayal in the live action is a bit exaggerated compared to the manga and anime (which are pretty much identical). In the live action, Tsuge is very dramatic when he falls for Minato and when he realized he’s in love, he actually bashes his head against a bookshelf. When I watched the live action, I thought that Tsuge was a bit of a weirdo, but reading the manga and watching the anime made me realize that the way Tsuge is portrayed here is more faithful as he is a stoic man by nature. While the Tsugemina section seems short, that’s because the Tsuge chapters are pretty short in comparison to the main couple; there aren’t a lot too, so who knows when we’ll get another segment of them in future episodes.
I do like the Tsuge and Adachi scene. As Tsuge is a novice wizard, he’s unsure how to make use of the power, but for Adachi, the power has brought good things into his life; Tsuge even notices this too as Adachi has become a bit more talkative, especially when the topic revolves around Kurosawa. In the manga, this scene actually takes some time after the second Tsugemina scene as Adachi had mentioned that he read Tsuge’s new book and noticed the change in his usual heroine types as he added in a heroine with the exact same description as Minato, showcasing how down bad he is for this guy he barely knows (heck, he doesn’t even know his name until later on). Despite the changes, I do like the scene but I dislike the fact that Tsuge gets blocked from the chances he gets to talk to Adachi about the magic.
After Tsuge and Adachi meet up, the episode then shifts to Adachi being the focus character, which I think is a rather good way to transition. Adachi gets jealous for the first time when he sees a pretty lady talking with Kurosawa and starts getting insecure about himself. Despite his jealousy, he does realize that if he did get jealous of that woman, that means he does like Kurosawa in that way. I do like how he was fast to process that and accepted it right away. It sort of shows that even if he doesn’t have romantic experiences, he’s still mature enough to understand what love is.
It’s kind of sad to see why Adachi’s so hesitant towards romance. I sort of get it. If I heard someone say that it’s impossible to date me because of the lack of experience, I’d get insecure too. I’m glad that Kurosawa exists to show that Adachi can be loved no matter how much he adverses romance. The part where Kurosawa comes over to his house was sweet; however, how the heck did he know his address? The way Kurosawa thought about how he’d cherish all of Adachi’s first was heartwarming. I legit stomped my feet in a giddy mood. Why is this anime so cute? Why are they so cute?
No worries, though. The pretty lady happens to be Kurosawa’s sister, Mari. She’s hilarious as she feels like a typical older sibling trying to pester her brother to get what she wants: to stay at Kurosawa’s place until her boyfriend apologizes to her. She even followed him to Adachi’s house via GPS. I do like how Kurosawa feels like a bullied little brother here. She is also good with words as she managed to convince Kurosawa to stay at Adachi’s house, to which his simp self accepts after fantasizing a domestic AU he conjured up in his mind. Haha, he’s such a simp.
Oh and uh, the voice actor trivia of the week is that Gen Sato, Minato’s VA, only has done BL recently. Like out of the four main cast, he has the least amount of experience in BL media but I’m sure that’ll change. In the drama CD, he was voiced by Kouhei Amasaki.
What are your thoughts on the birth of the side couple? How about Mari as a character? What about the whole Kurodachi segment? What did you think about the episode as a whole?

K-pop Discography Deep Dives: 🌸 Fromis_9 🌸
Tumblr media
Here are my credentials: Like…one and a half? I’d consider myself a casual fan of Fromis_9; I’ve enjoyed a good deal of their singles, I know a couple b-sides, and I’ll sing along if their songs come up on shuffle, but I really don’t know much about the members and I’m looking forward to learning more! Also, from a more logistical side, I’m just on the heels of a three week long SHINHWA deep dive, and I needed something shorter, more fun, and way less heavy.
Fromis_9, like many k-pop groups, was created through a reality show, and their name literally means “From Idol School”. They did originally have nine members: Chaeyoung, Nagyung, Jisun, Jiwon, Hayoung, Saerom, Jiheon, Seoyeon, and Gyuri, but Gyuri left after her contract expired in 2022.
So, their first song was Glass Shoes in late 2017. I heard about Glass Shoes before I heard the song itself; I’m almost always wary of managing my expectations when fans call something “the best debut in ___ years” and the like, and this was no exception. It’s one of the most k-poppy k-pop songs I’ve seen in a while, between the aegyo, the cutesiness, the pastel colors, and the schoolgirl outfits, which is often an uphill battle when it comes to my enjoyment of a song…but that actually wasn’t the case here! I wasn’t so sure at the beginning, but I loved Glass Shoes’ brightness and never-ceasing energy, and by the second chorus, I was nodding my head along.
Tumblr media
To Heart was their official debut, as Glass Shoes was from their competition show, and begins with Gyuri playing the violin quite beautifully, before trailing into a more synthy, classic 3rd gen cutesy sound. The schoolgirl outfits have returned, unsurprisingly, but I’m happy to say that I enjoyed this one too. It’s fun and playful, and the touches of classical strings mixed with the very down-to-earth filming style and humor helped to ground it.
From the 1st EP, To. Heart, I enjoyed the sweetness of the spoken-word intro The Way To Me, but my hidden gem was Pinocchio, for its flitting back-and-worth chorus, hints of doo-wop, and brassy instrumental.
If Glass Shoes and To. Heart felt very schoolgirl, DKDK is absolutely giving k-drama protagonists in the summer. As someone who both loves k-dramas and especially cats, I can’t deny that the music video gave me a huge smile. I like how its pre-choruses are a little lighter and fluffier before the synthy chorus takes over. Like with Gfriend, I’m much less annoyed by the cutesiness than I would be when it’s paired with other things and some good humor. Also, I’m not the biggest music video person, but I can’t deny that Fromis_9’s are pretty unique.
Tumblr media
From the EP, To. Day, I enjoyed the sprightly distorted energy and rushing-forward chorus of Think Of You and the great layers of belting in Clover. My hidden gem was a song I’d heard of but not heard before: 22nd Century Girl, which is bubbly in the best way and utilizes synths for a roller-skate ready chorus without losing any of its youthful energy.
Love Bomb is one of the songs I know best from Fromis_9, and was my favorite of the few I knew of them for a while. It’s still very poppy and bright, but leans further into synth than their previous songs, with more minimalistic verses and a chorus that rushes forward like…well, a bomb. I like the comic book animations, the spacey backgrounds, and the stop-motion-esque dance; how an MV can be so delightful while heavily featuring dynamite is beyond me.
With a “Come on girls, get on the floor!” that leads right into the first chorus, FUN! certainly lives up to its name. It’s a little haphazard, going back and forth from rising verses to an aegyo-filled chorus that…seems to be an ad? Though I like almost all of its parts separately, together they don’t quite gel. I did enjoy the outro and watching the MV though; I was also happy to see Gyuri playing the violin again.
Tumblr media
From the singles, From.9 and Fun Factory (respectively), I enjoyed the sleek, more mature sound of Dancing Queen and the light synths of Love Rum Pum Pum.
Feel Good is the beginning of a slight shift in Fromis_9’s sound, similar to TWICE’s maturation starting with Fancy and Feel Special. It relies on the synths always present in their songs, but with less cutesy vocals, a more toned-down brightness, and less of a pop overlay. Though I do like this one, I don’t think it quite feels like Fromis_9 and it sounds and looks like a lot of other k-pop girl groups of the time.  So, I don’t think I’d search it up, but I’m not going to throw a tantrum if it comes up on my shuffle. Also, the “nanana”’s are stuck in my head, likely as revenge.
From the EP, My Little Society, I enjoyed the “dripping, dripping, dripping” hook in Weather, the gentler vocals in Somebody To Love, and the jazz-tinged Mulgogi (Korean for “fish”, which is quite funny) with its funky guitar.
Tumblr media
We Go is a song I’d heard before, when it came out during COVID. It has a synthy beginning as well, but feels like genuine, warm-hearted fun; exactly what was needed at the time. It’s straightforward and nothing incredible, sure, but its brightness and emphasis on optimism and friendship feels like it holds the heart of Fromis_9 in it, and had me going, “aww” at several points.
With We Go, I was reminded of something that I’d mentioned earlier; Fromis_9’s music videos are honestly some of the most unique and creative that I’ve seen in k-pop. They’re often funny, strange, and use interesting framing or setups like the excellent zoom boxes dancing in We Go or the comic book animation in Love Bomb. I don’t know how responsible the members are for their music videos, of course, but still, kudos to whoever is. I don’t think that I would love We Go as much as I do without its MV.
Talk & Talk starts where We Go left off—literally, the music videos are connected—and goes for a similarly bubbly, excited-in-love feel that takes from old video game chiptune. I loved this one’s matching 60’s / 70’s aesthetics, phone battery metaphors, and fizzy production, though I think it has a similar issue to FUN!: I like all the parts, but they don’t gel together that well. I feel like the verses should lead in to the chorus a bit more, personally, but that’s a small issue.
Tumblr media
If the songs so far have felt like a sunny day, DM is more like a night spent out. The synths are paired with a more disco-y beat, more confident lyrics and tone, and a stronger hook at the beginning of the chorus that pulls from the gentle build-up in the pre-choruses. Though it’s still fun, it’s another step in what’s a longer maturation process that feels appropriate for a group now all in their 20’s. Also, I have to say that their voices sound great in this one!
The EP, Midnight Guest, is more on the melancholy, downtempo side than their past works, but is still strong. I enjoyed the sleek beat and strong vocal of Escape Room and the soft piano backdrop of Love Is Around.
Stay This Way returns to the sunny, summery songs from Fromis_9’s beginning, albeit in a more grown-up way that gives it a nostalgic, sun-drenched vibe with the lyrics about taking a break once in a while. It’s light and bright, and feels like a lazy afternoon at the beach. I’m (shockingly) not a fan of the random rapping in the second verse, but other than that, I quite liked this one, especially the bridge and final chorus.
Tumblr media
From the EP, From Our Memento Box (which is much more upbeat), I enjoyed the fizzy, bright Up And Down, the lovely lyrics in Blind Letter, and surprisingly, the anti-drop lead-in to the chorus in Cheese, which normally I’d dislike.
#MeNow marks many firsts: the first full album, the first release in almost a year, and the first comeback without Gyuri, who left after Stay This Way. That’s a lot for one song, and yet #MeNow pulls it off. Beginning with a chic minimalistic sound before spiraling into a deeper, quasi-anthemic track led by a strong drumbeat, it comments on perfection and self-image while still feeling hopeful and bright and carrying the energy of a highschool sleepover. I’m not going to deny it, when they all began to climb the fence and run away together and the final chorus kicked in, I really felt something.
From the album, Unlock My World, I loved the mix of well…attitude and earnestness of Attitude, which was probably my hidden gem, but I also enjoyed the lyrics of going against expectations in Wishlist and In The Mirror, the danciness of Prom Night, the excellent disco influences in What I Want, and the warmth in My Night Routine.
Tumblr media
I’m glad I did this. I didn’t know much about Fromis_9 when I began this deep dive, and I’m happy to report that that’s changed, mostly from my watch of their “In The House” show, which gave me some great laughs. I enjoyed their voices more than I thought I would, and I also gained a new appreciation for how interesting and unique their music videos are. So, I can’t call myself a fan exactly, but I’m definitely excited for their next comeback! And who knows, I might become one in the future.
My Top 5 songs are Love Bomb, #menow, Pinocchio, We Go, and Stay This Way, with Attitude as an honorable mention. Fromis_9 gets an 8.25 out of 10 from me. Similarly to LOONA and Purple Kiss (albeit in a different style), I feel like the quality of their music is pretty solid and I don’t think there were any tracks I actively disliked. But there also weren’t any tracks that just grabbed me and made themselves favorites either. Don’t get me wrong, I would take their discography over a half-incredible, half-terrible one any day, but for now, there’s nothing that makes them truly stand out from such tough competition.
Tumblr media
Remember I mentioned wanting a good discography all the way through instead of terrible and fantastic? Well…next time, we’ll be doing a pretty huge boy group, so stay tuned!

biting you /pos I don't think I know any of your ocs so uh. just put em on a wheel and spin. throw darts. idk oc of your choosing!! crayon, eraser andddd pencil!!! tell me everything /nf
ooh thank you friend!!! this really means a lot that you'd send something even though you're not familiar with my characters!! /gen /pos
I'm gonna go with Rae (one of my X-Men OCs, A Love Once New) and Katherine (Night at the Museum OC, Who Waits Forever Anyway?) since they don't always get the limelight on these ask games and things :)
OC/Writing Asks (created by me!)
Pencil: does this character have any "sketchy" habits? Have they ever broken the law? Do they regret it?
Rae: Well, on the one hand, she's got a very strong sense of justice. But on the other, she's an X-Man, and any type of vigilante is bound to break a couple laws. I'm sure she's broken a few laws, and I'm sure she doesn't regret it in the slightest as long as it serves a good purpose. I suppose by that definition, she's technically an anti-hero.
Katherine: the only "sketchy" habit she has is literally sketching. She's an artist. And pretty straightlaced, unless you count media piracy once in a while
Crayon: what was your OC like when they were four years old? Were they loud? Shy? Were they the resident "weird kid" or did they get along with others their age?
Rae: She was and will always be a total wildcard. Wandering down to her grandparents' house down the street for cookies and stories (without telling her parents, mind you), trying and failing to roughhouse with her sisters, probably trying to get all the kids at daycare to start a coup d'etat or something
Katherine: let's see: drawing on any viable surface (and sometimes on a few non-viable ones, like her bedroom walls), begging her mom to let her read "real" comics instead of the kiddy-comics she was allowed. Very loud and outspoken, probably a little bit "weird kid" but not quite to the point of being outcast.
Eraser: what's one way this character has changed over time? Either over the course of their story, or over the course of designing them as an author.
Rae: admittedly, she started as a bit of a self-insert, but she's evolved a lot since I first created her and really become more of her own character. Within the story, she's tempered her strong sense of justice into something a bit less reckless, and generally just matured after a whole host of life-altering events.
Katherine: she begins her story as a young artist simply leaving drawings in the museum for fun, and by this point, she's learned to harness the tablet's magic and has made contact with the Egyptian pantheon itself (my version of NATM has a LOT more actual mythology, I'm a nerd lol). As a person, she's also matured and has found her place in the world, designing artworks to supplement the exhibits in various museums. But there's still more to go for her story....

These are such great additions!
I think another thing to consider is that bigger stage productions are insanely expensive investments. And because of that, a lot of humbler productions who make their way to larger venues often have their edge and bite sanitized off for mainstream. Coupled with how Broadway is in-accessible to a majority of people in the world through price and lack of pro-shoot recordings for international viewers- theater has its own hierarchy problems.
The Wait in the Wings documentary goes over this, but part of Ride the Cyclone's struggle was that it covered a taboo subject, and that it was born out of a punk, counterculture environment. While the show was gaining prominence and publicity, people recognized Ride the Cyclone's value. But by the time it was getting close to entering mainstream, all people could talk about was how incompatible it was with Broadway. Which to me, is like criticizing an indie comic because it would never fit in traditional publishing. That's a terrible metric for quality and resonance.
It wasn't until Gen Z got a hold of Ride the Cyclone through slime tutorial recordings, did Ride the Cyclone find the audience it truly resonated with; one that was constantly exposed to death through growing up with a pandemic and exposure to news via social media. The humor and out-of-the box music just clicked with younger people.
American Superhero comics has suffered from a history of self censorship, and the changing attitudes of who they're for. They're constantly struggling between broadening their audience or relying on the same old white guy readership to get by. For DC, The New 52 was all about edge, so Rebirth is meant to be a return to form. But for the most part, we've entered a performative era.
Cape comics want to be more inclusive, but not to the point it would deter its conservative readership and lose money from that audience, so they'll never commit to consistently go that far. There's outliers (SSTK, Alan Scott Green Lantern, etc.) but for the most part they play it frustratingly safe and market it as groundbreaking.
Vertigo comics began as an imprint of DC comics so the creators could explore more mature topics with adult content that would've been restricted under DC comics. That's how we got so much social commentary and politics out of works like og Hellblazer. It only makes sense that when John Constantine is assimilated into the bigger, restrictive world of DC comics that his radical roots end up sanitized to fit a superhero mold- walking pride ad and quippy MCU style remarks galore.
Yet even modern stories that feel like a return to form such as Spurrier's run and Dead In America have that layer of respectability on top of everything. Sure Spurrier's Hellblazer will talk about racism, but he'll portray Rural Country Bumkin White People as the racists because that's the most comfortable people to portray as racists. And American cops. Only them though. The British cops are noble people of color. They'll include Noah, a Black disabled character who communicates through BSL, but not include nuances specific to Deaf/HOH culture and how that intersects with Blackness. They can't even draw people facing him when he's signing.
Whenever I read stories with John Constantine in them and they feel lackluster I always outwardly ask myself "are we really going to be outdone by a bunch of white guys writing Hellblazer in the 80s??" because come on. There's so much more diverse talent and perspectives in the industry since then but they can't shine because it still has to sell to a mainstream audience in the end.
I'm pretty sure your experience with Spirit World and Xanthe Zhou is reflective of most people's experience with the character. At first people are impressed by the novelty of the representation, but then they move on and forget about it. Xanthe's tag hasn't been active since their debut year with Spirit World. I finally got into Spirit World because I'm friends with a Xanthe superfan haha.
It's easy for the comics community to dunk on whatever new thing Tom King is writing, or talk up a fantastic comic! But stuff like Spirit World burns bright for a second and withers away because it really was lots of theatrics and little substance. At the end of the day, loving or hating something means you care about it. Something that is mid though? Even if you enjoyed it, it doesn't stay with you.
And it's a shame because I think characters like Xanthe should have critical discussion! At least for representation alone, I don't want a Chinese non binary character to (ironically) be forgotten and sidelined. Yet I also don't want this character to stagnate the way they're written right now (and just have fandom say "read it! It's important! Because representation!"). The beauty of these characters is the potential for another writer to come along and do something great with them. But with the state of comics being nothing burger now? Those chances are slim.
It's why I think Ride the Cyclone has a big piece of what Xanthe's missing. It may not have the backing of mainstream musicals, but something about it resonated in the younger generation especially. It was willing to have an uncomfortable conversation about death and dying at a young age, when a generation was exposed to death on the regular. Meanwhile Spirit World is a weird comic about death that wants to talk about death as little as possible. Outside of saying "you take nothing with you when you die, so you better remember people!" it's squeamish about the subject. So all we get is just "you should read Spirit World because representation, some popular characters cameo in it and uh, yeah that's it." That's a story for no one.
Spirit World, Ride the Cyclone and Death. A weird comparative analysis
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gonna combine my musical nerd and cape comics fixation together for a rambling meta thought. I've been reflecting on how taboo the topic of death is in media after getting into Ride The Cyclone (highly recommend watching the slime tutorial and Waiting in the Wings' documentary on it) but also contrasting that musical with how Spirit World handled similar topics.
Both stories cover characters whose lives were cut short from a tragic circumstance, but while Cyclone directly talks frankly about how each character uniquely grieves over their lost life (and eventually accepts death)- Spirit World uses death as largely an aesthetic to a generic fantasy superhero adventure.
[spoilers for Ride the Cyclone and Spirit World]
Spirit World is about non-binary, half dead half living Envoy Xanthe Zhou, as they go into the Spirit World with John Constantine to rescue Cassandra Cain Batgirl. They eventually go toe to toe with the spirit of a bitter dead poet.
Ride the Cyclone is about 6 choir teenagers who die in a roller coaster accident in their small town. In the afterlife, they are given the chance to vote which one of them they believe should be resurrected.
For Spirit World, do we even know how Xanthe feels about being "half dead"? What does that even mean? They died as (what looks like) a 3 year old, and have clearly aged 15 more years since then. So they can age? Do they need to eat or drink (they're seen with a drink in a Pride comic)? Xanthe keeps mentioning they're half dead and half living, but the comic doesn't seem to want to discuss what that means. How would Xanthe feel that they were essentially given a job as an Envoy the minute they died as a very young child? Was this even a choice?
Tumblr media
We've already covered the numerous plot holes in Xanthe Zhou's poorly thought out backstory so I won't go over that again. But honestly apart from the thematically loose "the dead shouldn't be forgotten" moral, a lot of how death is presented in Spirit World feels so superficial. When Xanthe is formally introduced as this cool character with a giant sword hanging around a gravesite, fighting all these hopping vampire creatures... this scene would play out the same if you swapped the setting with a forest and zombies as bad guys.
Tumblr media
The Spirit World is less an afterlife for the spirits to move onto and more an MMORPG setting for our superheroes to travel across and fight generic evil beings and encounter eviler, bigger, boss battles at the end. Then there's the poet clout villain whose problems are just easily solved by Xanthe promising to remember her. I've already covered what a lost opportunity thematically this character was in my last Xanthe essay, but this time I want to contrast her with Ride the Cyclone's Jane Doe. I also want to compare Xanthe with Noel Gruber afterwards.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ride the Cyclone's musical numbers follow each character performing a song reflecting their wishes, and musings on life (this sounds depressing but the musical handles all this with comedy and wit), hoping to prove themselves as worthy of a second chance at life. Of the characters, Jane Doe is the mysterious odd one out. The accident decapitated her, leaving her to enter the after life with no memories and the people of the living unable to identify her.
Tumblr media
You might see where I'm going with this. So in Spirit World, Wan Yujing was this famous poet mourned by an entire empire. She only goes monster mode when a handwave-y "time erodes all" happens in the Spirit World and she is eventually forgotten- so she becomes desperate to demand to be reincarnated by the Jade Court. Because her clout ran out. Again, I already made the critique in my previous essay that this villain would better link to our protagonist if she was a queer poet whose poetry was being purposefully straight washed as an act of queer historical erasure. But I want to bring up how truly unsympathetic this villain is. She gets Shakespeare levels of clout but still demands more because she isn't getting reincarnated fast enough. Xanthe promises that as an immortal "half dead half living" person that they will remember Wan Yujing, so she too can be immortal in some way.
I think about all the Jane Doe-s in the Spirit World who don't get to be famous poets that have Empires remembering who they were. People who died anonymously without a past. In Cyclone, the main character chooses Jane Doe as the person who should be brought back to life. Our cast of teens come to terms with the fact that while it's tragic that their lives ended shortly, they conclude "to say that if one dies young, they die needlessly... that is to discount the years we had. We had a life, she didn't. That's my vote." Since Jane Doe has no memory of who she is, it's only fair that she is given that second chance.
Tumblr media
I get that Spirit World is choosing these "larger than life" characters as villains, but it's at the expense of their own supposed themes. Of all the people to die and face off our hero as the villain, a character who's essentially an influencer but somehow has an entire empire forget about her anyway feels thematically hollow.
Modern Superhero comics are suffering from a specific problem right now; they're not really about anything. Characters don't feel like people with interior lives informed by the context of who they are. Class, race and bigotry are only touched upon as lightly as possible. Queer characters are now Pride ads with no personhood or flaws. They punch gentrified crime and fight for no one in particular. Even recent adapted media such as My Adventures with Superman and Caped Crusader follow this. Superman fights white-washed xenophobia, while Batman fights gentrified, white-washed classicism. It's why comics like Superman Smashes the Klan, Catwoman Lonely City and Alan Scott Green Lantern stand out so much. It's been a while since these characters talked about anything that matters. Don't get me wrong, slop that's about nothing exists in every industry. But when these characters and worlds historically used to have more bite- it's especially obvious.
Tumblr media
If I could be playfully conspiracy theory-like for a second; I believe Xanthe Zhou was pitched so that DC Comics can buff out their Pride Anthology or AAPI anthology with a new younger character. The company will give this character one limited series, but that's it. Xanthe will appear in the larger DC universe whenever big magic plots happen, but that's it. Maybe they'll get a YA graphic novel. I would love to be proven wrong, but the problems with Xanthe are baked in the dough.
Because they don't feel like a person, Xanthe feels more like an industry planted Pride ad. They're designed to be the most palatable and marketable image of Asian androgyny. They literally have no flaws to grow out of, and their backstory makes no sense. They weren't built to be a sustainable solo character.
So I want to contrast Xanthe Zhou against Noel Gruber from Ride the Cyclone. Because they're both queer characters whose lives were cut short at a young age.
Tumblr media
In a dramatic lament, Noel Gruber expresses how if he had a chance to live, he'd want to live the horrible cinematic messy life of a French sex worker woman in post-war France. He struggled as the only gay boy in a small town and never got to kiss a boy before he died. It's a look into a queer life that could've been lived, one with all the messy texture and self destruction Noel couldn't have but desires. We get to see how death and queerness intersect into rich, unflattering, gender-messy themes. "I want to be that fucked up girl." Noel sings.
But what's Xanthe's deal? They died as a 3 year old, got brought back, avoided their family at all costs for 15 years, and then had a transphobic confrontation with their family when they're invited to dinner way later. If Xanthe grew up in a transphobic household, how did they ever figure out they were non-binary when they were 3? Could they even verbalize it? Or did they instead figure out their queerness after they died? But how is that possible when they already held a level of familiar resentment towards their family's transphobia as if they've had several fights about it? It's hard to picture a 3 year old having multiple heated debates about gender with their parents for this level of resentment to make any sense.
Tumblr media
Details aside, how does Xanthe's queerness intersect with themes of death and grief? Well, it just doesn't. This scene ends with Xanthe's sister telling them that she bothered remembering them even though their parents moved on from their death (which makes no sense since the parents wanted to have dinner with a random 18 year old they correctly assumed was their long dead "daughter" but whatever). Honestly, the only reason queerness exists in this family drama is so that Xanthe has a tense relationship with their family. The story would be exactly the same if Xanthe was a troublemaker that brought shame to their family. Who they are isn't specific to whatever grief exists in the comic.
When people give the critique that modern Superhero comics aren't about anything anymore, we usually think of these comics as "lacking political bite and commentary". We don't often think of something like Death to be political. And even though it is in many ways, it's also a social taboo to talk about. Death is an uncomfortable thing to confront, even in the safety of fiction. It's what made Ride the Cyclone such a difficult stage musical to market.
So how does a modern mainstream comic like Spirit World fit into that? It just sits there in this non-committal way. Yes, this is a story about a trans teenager who died, but only in a cool Superhero Origin Way, not in any way that would make readers uncomfortable. Bury Your Gays is a stereotype after all, so we can't talk about how queer people feel about death. We don't get to know how Xanthe feels about death as a non-binary Asian American. Especially if it's messy. It's the reason why Wan Yujing's character can never commentate on themes of historical queer erasure. God forbid superhero comics be about something.
Tumblr media
I think about how, in the original Hellblazer run from the 80s, John Constantine had an elderly gay friend who was diagnosed with AIDS but was killed by a homophobic hate group. The comic openly talks about the sheer amount of gay people dying of the epidemic, a looming threat that informs John's queer life. It's such a culture shock, to contrast these early comics with how John Constantine is written in Spirit World. A character stripped of his own queer history and is at the mercy of incessant slutty bi jokes. Where is the desire to talk about how death informs a queer person's life? The mourning of a lost generation to the AIDS crisis? Something John lived through?
How about how any of this intersects with being an Asian American queer person? Queer people of color are often erased or purposefully excluded from queer history and communities. As a Queer Asian American, what does it mean to have identities that are often perceived to be in conflict with each other? Would your queer Asian ancestors even be remembered? Cultural differences with how you'd mourn your communities? But answering any of these questions means an uncomfortable conversation for Spirit World. For Xanthe. It threatens to be about something.
Which makes it all the more silly that, of the two stories, a musical about teenagers dying from a rollercoaster malfunction is more willing to have that uncomfortable conversation. You should ride the Cyclone.

i basically just stole this ask from @gunsatthaphan, partially because i’ve been wanting to make a post about it and after almost 3 years watching bls, i might as well. right? right. anyways.
Compilation of Bad Kisses in BLs (Part 1)
mind you, this is only for the ones i’ve seen. if i put every single bad kiss out there, this post would go on forever.
i strongly believe a kiss, whether is good or bad, can make or break a show and in my personal opinion, a lot of them fell off simply because of the fishy kisses. they are truly hard to watch, so much so that you have to look away because they are ugly and this is something we CAN and SHOULD blame both the actors and the company. sometimes, workshops are not enough.
i also believe that these actors shouldn’t play dumb. like, they HAVE to know there’s gonna be a kiss at some point. put in the work, pls.
LET’S GET IT
1. My Engineer (MekBoss)
Tumblr media
at the time, i didn’t think it was that bad. i just thought they needed some work, a little bit of help because clearly it wasn’t that good either. now, i just see two walls kissing and we might not see these walls kissing ever again.
2. YYY (NottPun)
Tumblr media
imagine watching this mess of a show, they promise you a kiss, and once you’re sure you’re gonna get it, they literally bring the sun out, block the view and that’s how the season ends. but honestly? the little i can see it’s still awful.
3. YYY 2 (NottPun)
Tumblr media
well... there it is. no words.
4. 2gether (SarawaTine)
Tumblr media
maturing is accepting the fact that 2gether had two straight bros playing these characters and that’s how they kissed and then the high five. it was a bad kiss, bestie. we were all just blinded by the pandemic and though this was high cinema.
5. SOTUS (ArthitKongpop)
Tumblr media
i’m not afraid of the girlies still caught up on this show. this was a bad first kiss and i’m ready to die on this hill. granted, this was 2016, the actors were still iffy on playing queer characters, they were calling each other wife and the obsession with pink milk was at its peak. gmmtv had $5 and a dream and you could tell.
6. ‘Cause you are my boy/My Tee (TeeMork)
Tumblr media
this was frankdrake’s first roles and you could tell. you could also tell that they were in the trenches because everything was bad with this show and i truly think it was a cry for help. they did the best they could with what they had but there was no way in hell they could save this show and honestly, i’m not surprised that their first kiss was like this. it goes well with the quality of the show.
7. Love By Chance (TinCan)
Tumblr media
and it doesn’t get better after this. i’m gonna be the devil’s advocate, mean actually tried to make these kisses better but there was no helping with this couple. a mess.
8. Oxygen (SoloGui)
Tumblr media
as far as first kisses go... yeah. granted, oxygen wasn’t really that good either but they could have salvage this show with a decent kiss. nothing. nada. it was a let down.
9. Make it right (FuseTee)
Tumblr media
make it right paved the way for angle kisses.
now listen, i’m pretty sure boom and peak were 17 or something when they filmed this and back in the day, this was already too much. like, cheewin was pushing it by directing this show. still, it has to be on this list (it’s not like it hasn’t changed anyways. boom and peak would never EVER kiss. this was the closest we could get).
10. Where your eyes linger
Tumblr media
i mean, come on. COME ON. i know this was like the first kbl and you know, they paved the way. give credit where credit is due and all that but LOOK. it’s bad. it was a good show, for the plot that it had and the limited time, it was good. BUT THE KISS WAS... it was a letdown.
11. Gen Y (MarkKit)
Tumblr media
how are you gonna be a senior in the industry and still kiss like this? kimcop are one of those settled ships that are hard to break and to ship with someone else. with that in mind, you would think they would do wonders. gen y was a dumpster fire and so were the kisses.
12. WISH YOU: Your melody in my heart
Tumblr media
this is where you start to understand that it’s not about the production or how short kbls are and that’s why the kisses are so bad. no, it’s because workshops apparently don’t exist in korea and they put these men to kiss without practicing first. this is the product. this is what you get.
13. Color Rush
Tumblr media
i know some of you call it the best kbl out there because the plot was different, which is true, but like... their lips are not even touching... so yeah. next.
14. Nobleman Ryu’s wedding
Tumblr media
i’m pretty sure this was supposed to be an angle kiss and they changed their mind at the last minute and we got... this. i mean, compared to others in this list is not that bad but is it good? far from it. this was also the first period kbl we got and it was kind of forgettable too. it was very low budget and you could see it with the kiss
15. What Zabb Man
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BOTH COUPLES because both of them were such a let down. i was here mainly because of the toxics from gen y and with the crazy tension they had going on, i thought they would go off. not even that. don’t even get me started on the main couple. the manipulation that went down between them UGH but i can’t even get a good kiss out of this mess anyways.

Tumblr media
Narumi Gen x f!Reader feat. Hoshina Soshiro
summary: Hoshina Soshiro is visiting the First Division’s base for the first time in three years only weeks after you mentioned a threesome with the man to Narumi. And really, who are you to question the universe's plans?
warnings: 18+ minors dni, f!reader, smut-adjacent, established relationship, discussions of threesomes (including: anal, double penetration, squirting), dirty talk (I suppose), ass slapping, relationship negotiations (but not in a mature and responsible way...), jealous/possessive Narumi, dumbstruck Hoshina, fed-up Hasegawa, don't do what the chaos couple does and please talk to your partner before asking someone to participate in a threeway
notes: this is pretty much a direct follow-up to level up. after chapter 57, I couldn't not write this. also, I think the reader might be more chaotic than Narumi in this one and I love it.

You’ve never really believed in fate. It’s hard to watch a kaiju attack and think that the death and destruction are all part of some greater plan. But when word reaches you that the Third Division and their Vice-Captain will be making their way to the Ariake Maritime Base, you wonder if there really is some higher power that’s looking out for you.
After all, Hoshina Soshiro making his first visit to the First Division in over three years only weeks after you mentioned a threesome with the man to Narumi has to be some sort of sign, doesn’t it?
Who are you to simply ignore what the universe is trying to tell you?
So, you decide to wait casually in the hallway rather than follow the other officers and required personnel towards the conference space like you know you should. Hasegawa has reminded you multiple times that as the First Division’s Head of Operations, your attendance is mandatory and you in return have assured him multiple times that you heard him the first time.
But destiny is calling and you can’t just let it go to voicemail.
When you see Hoshina round the corner alongside the other members of the Third Division on their way into the conference, you know that this is the opportunity that you’ve been waiting for. Without a care for the meeting that’s scheduled to begin in less than ten minutes, you plant yourself directly in his path, forcing him to come to a stop.
You can feel the stares of the other Third Division officers, but your attention is solely focused on the smiling face of the man in front of you.
“Vice-Captain Hoshina, it’s good to see you again!” you greet him cheerfully, a markedly different welcome from the one that you’re sure that he just received from the rest of the First Division.
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” he asks, his smile turning slightly playful. “You know, it’s a good thing Captain Ashiro’s not here. She won’t say it, but I think she’s still holding a little bit of a grudge that you chose to join the First Division over the Third.”
“Well, what can I say? There’s just something about the First that caught my eye,” you grin and Hoshina’s smile grows a little sharper.
“So I’ve heard,” he offers knowingly and you have to laugh. “But I guess the heart wants what the heart wants.”
You internally send your thanks out to the universe for providing you with the perfect opening yet again.
“Speaking of…” you begin and take a step towards him, now standing close enough that it borders on the line of inappropriate for a man who is not your boyfriend. From the way he raises an eyebrow, Hoshina seems to recognize it as well. “Have you ever had a threesome?”
You’re not sure what causes the sudden silence that falls over the members of the Third Division, whether it’s the bluntness with which you’ve just propositioned their Vice-Captain, the fact that you’ve done it so publicly, or how casual you sounded in doing so, as if you were asking him how he took his coffee.
Hoshina’s face has slackened with shock, the man so taken aback that his eyes are now fully open. You simply tilt your head curiously, waiting for his response.
“Uh…” is all you receive and you realize that he probably didn’t understand what you were proposing.
“Sorry, maybe I didn’t put that right,” you say with a slightly sheepish smile. “What do you think about having a threesome with me and Gen?”
You hear a loud sigh and in your periphery, you see Shinonome making her way past the scene playing out within the base’s hallway.
“Hey, don’t tell Gen, okay?” you call out after her and she just waves a dismissive hand, which you take as her compliance.
When you turn back to face Hoshina, you find him, and the rest of Third Division, standing exactly how you left them — in total silence. You frown in confusion.
“Am I not being clear enough?” you ask and Hoshina’s mouth opens and closes wordlessly. You scratch the back of your head thoughtfully, wondering how else you can make him understand. “I want to fuck you and Gen at the same time.”
That finally seems to get a reaction out of someone in the Third Division as the man with messy dark hair to Hoshina’s right seems to choke on his own breath as he erupts in a loud coughing fit. Your brow furrows before understanding finally dawns on you.
“Oh, no, no, no,” you’re quick to rush out, waving your hands in front of you in hopes that it will help clear up the misunderstanding. “Don’t worry, I know anal can sometimes be intimidating with someone you don’t know that well. Gen would be the one fucking me in the ass.”
To your complete and utter bewilderment, Hoshina’s eyes somehow manage to grow even wider. Maybe that was the wrong thing to say…
“Oh, do you want to fuck me in the ass? That’s totally fine with me!” you laugh, relieved to have gotten to the heart of the problem. But then you rest your finger on your chin and look up as you think it over. “We’ll have to see what Gen thinks about that — well all of it really. But whatever, it should be fine. You’re the guest of honor after all.”
You give a satisfied nod but before you can say goodbye and assure him that you’ll catch up after the meeting to hammer out the details, there’s a familiar screeching that comes from the conference room’s entrance.
“Oi, Hoshina! Get away from my woman!”
You barely have a chance to look over your shoulder and catch a glimpse of the furious expression on Narumi’s face before you’re being roughly yanked back by the collar of your shirt. And then the world is spinning as he easily slings you over his broad shoulder like a sack of potatoes with a strength that usually lies hidden under layers and layers of laziness, narcissism, apathy, and immaturity.
“What gives you the right to think you can just waltz onto my turf and take what’s rightfully mine?!” Narumi shouts, gesturing wildly with the arm that’s not currently holding you in place and keeping you from wiggling out of his grasp.
“Oh, perfect timing, Captain Narumi!” Hoshina exclaims, Narumi’s sudden appearance seeming to have snapped him out of whatever stupor he had just been in with you. “Your Head of Operations and I were just discussing an exciting opportunity for me to outperform you again!”
You think that the only thing that keeps Narumi from keeling over from the verbal blow is the knowledge that if he collapses to the floor in a heap, then you go right along with him. For as careless as Narumi can be, he’s never truly careless with you.
“Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! I bet you’ve never even made a woman come before! You know how often I make her come?” He then screeches your name repeatedly, trying to grab your attention like he doesn’t already have it. “Tell him! Tell this beady-eyed hack how much I make you come!”
With a roll of your eyes, you summon all of your upper-body strength to lift yourself up enough on Narumi’s shoulder to be able to look behind you and over his head at Hoshina’s unruffled expression.
“I mean, to be fair, it’s a lot,” you agree with a shrug, regretting it the second you do as Narumi lets out the most obnoxious laugh possible. He readjusts his hold on you to move you higher up on his shoulder and keep you from slipping from his grasp, causing you to let out a soft oof! as he bounces you unexpectedly.
“Hear that, Hoshina? I know how to keep my woman more than satisfied!” he boasts and gives your ass a slap that you should have known was coming.
The admonishing, “Gen!” that leaves your lips sounds too much like a moan for your taste and you can practically feel him preening like a fucking peacock at the sound. Hoshina seems happy to let the First Division Captain rant and you wonder if it’s because he knows that Narumi is more than capable of making himself look like an idiot all on his own.
“Y’know, I can make her squirt so easily that I don’t even have to be paying attention—ouch!” You cut him off by grabbing onto his hair and yanking. “What the hell was that for? It’s the truth!”
You’re much less concerned with the intimate details that Narumi is spilling about your sex life than you are with the unamused look on Hasegawa’s face as he stands at the end of the hallway in the conference room’s entrance.
“It’s time for the meeting to begin,” the First Division Vice-Captain announces and Narumi immediately stiffens before whirling around to face the man and you’re once again face-to-face with Hoshina and the Third Division.
Unable to help yourself, you shoot Hoshina a wink as you part two of your fingers in a ‘V’ and lift them up to your mouth to stick your tongue between them in an obscene gesture that has his cheeks turning the most wonderful shade of pink.
“Now, just a second, Hasegawa!” Narumi begins to protest but he doesn’t get much further than that before you’re suddenly being effortlessly lifted out of his grasp by the back of your shirt and placed on your feet at his side.
“My apologies, Soshiro,” Hasegawa offers and the rest of the Third takes this as their cue to go about their business and head into the conference area.
“No worries,” Hoshina replies easily as he too breezes past the three of you. “I think all of the Defense Force is aware of what to expect whenever they visit the First.”
You ignore Hasegawa’s grimace at the statement to peek around the mountain of a man at Hoshina’s retreating form.
“I’ll catch up with you soon, Soshiro~” you call after him and you’re pleased to see that this time, he seems ready for your advances because he tosses his head back and laughs before giving you a wink of his own.
“Hey! Cut it out!” Narumi cries and you can see him visibly growing more distressed when you look at him like you had forgotten he was there — which maybe, for just the briefest second, you had.
Hasegawa doesn’t give your and Narumi’s argument a chance to gain steam, cutting it off by tightly grabbing your ear with one hand and Narumi’s ear with the other. You both let out a matching string of ow ow ows! that falls on deaf ears.
“I told both of you that it was vitally important that you were on time for today’s meeting,” he lectures.
“I was on time! She was the one who was out here trying to get in the pants of that smug bastard!” Narumi argues but from the loud ow! that follows, Hasegawa doesn’t care to listen to his excuses.
For the First Division’s Vice-Captain, the fact that Narumi is standing here in the hallway beside you and not seated in his chair in the conference room means that he was not, in fact, on time.
“We’ll discuss this later. The two of you have already held up the meeting for long enough.” His tone leaves no room for argument and even Narumi seems to have accepted his fate.
Other than the sharp inhales of pain that escape him from how tightly his ear is being tugged, he makes no attempt to protest as Hasegawa drags the two of you alongside him and into the conference room.
He releases you both only once you’ve all entered the conference space, ensuring that everyone who has been kept waiting, including the Defense Force’s newly appointed Director General, Itami Keiji, who is watching on with clear irritation, is able to witness your joint humiliation.
You would probably care more if it weren’t for the way Narumi grabs your arm before you even have a chance to glance at Hoshina and yanks you after him to where the rest of the First Division is seated.
As he drags you along, your eyes meet Shinonome’s where she sits only a few seats down and you shoot her a look of betrayal. Despite the blank expression on her face, you know that she’s laughing at you. Even if she didn’t tell Narumi what exactly you were up to, you knew her well enough to know that at the bare minimum, she told him who you were with, and he was competent enough to at least put two and two together.
Narumi stops at the three empty chairs in the front row and sits right in the middle, leaving you with no other option than to sit next to him. You know that’s what he’s counting on because as soon as you take your seat, he’s already leaning over to pick your conversation back up.
“Hey, how many times do I need to make you come tonight for you to give up on all this Hoshina stuff?” he hurriedly whispers in your ear. A wide grin grows on your lips at his own proposal and you’re suddenly much more interested in his to you than in yours to Hoshina.
You’re prevented from answering when Hasegawa arrives and easily lifts Narumi from his chair by the collar of his uniform and deposits him in the empty chair at the end of the table. You pout when Hasegawa then takes the seat between the two of you, separating you in an attempt to keep the attention on the matter at hand and not on your negotiations with Narumi.
However, Narumi’s offer is too good for you to let pass you by and you lean forward to look at him around Hasegawa. You catch his eye and boldly hold up all five fingers. He raises an eyebrow before smirking. He then leans forward in his own chair to extend his hand toward you so that you can shake on it.
You’re surprised that Hasegawa is allowing it but maybe he realizes that this is what’s needed to put an end to this entire mess. Whatever the reason, he does nothing to stop you as you reach in front of him and meet Narumi’s hand and give it a shake.
Before you can let go, Narumi leans in even closer to darkly promise, “I’ll have you squirting all over my face tonight.”
What he doesn’t seem to realize is that by leaning forward, his mouth is now directly in front of the microphone on the table in front of him.
Which means that every attendee, from those physically present in the meeting space — including the most senior members of the Defense Force’s leadership — to those joining virtually and projected across the large screens at the front of the room, has just heard the Captain of the First Division, the man known as Japan's Strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant, announce that he’s going to make you squirt for him.
There’s a smattering of muffled laughter from around the room — you’re pretty sure that you can make out Hoshina’s laugh — and some groans from the other First Division officers who are more than used to incidents of this nature. But it’s the overwhelming silence that’s more deafening than anything else as it allows Narumi’s words to echo and hang in the cavernous room.
This might be the first time that you’ve ever seen Narumi — a man who knows no shame — look truly embarrassed as he releases your hand and slinks down in his chair, hoping to hide from the rest of the room behind Hasegawa’s hulking figure.
You chance looking up at the screens hanging above you and have to physically slap your hand over your mouth to keep from laughing when you see the wildly different reactions of the three other Division Captains.
Ashiro is sitting there with her eyes closed, looking like she’s summoning every ounce of patience she has. Igarashi looks like his usual self, which is to say he looks like he’s about to bite someone’s head off — Narumi’s you’re sure. And Ogata, your own former Captain during your time at the Fourth Division, has a wide and amiable grin stretched across his face, seemingly amused by the entire display.
You suddenly feel Hasegawa’s disapproving gaze on you and you clear your throat, forcing down your laughter and a serious expression onto your face as you sit forward properly in your seat.
The Director General seems like he’s already exhausted and the meeting hasn’t even started.
“Well, now that we’re all here,” Itami states, directing a pointed look in your and Narumi’s direction. “Let’s begin the Anti-No. 9 Eastern Divisional Conference.”
Before he can say anything else, you hear a loud yawn from the other side of Hasegawa. You’re apparently not the only one who notices as Igarashi does indeed take the opportunity to bite Narumi’s head off and the four highly-esteemed captains descend into a bickering match that’s far below their station.
You find yourself leaning over to Hasegawa with a smirk.
“See? With all these idiots around, even if we had been early, this meeting was never gonna start on time,” you tell him and while he gives you an unimpressed look, you notice that he doesn’t disagree.

*Long ask, sorry, also, have a good day💖*
Trupan related: actually, except for TruTen, every ship with the kids (Next Gen?) it's kinda... Weird.
Like, Trunks it's the oldest and Bra it's the youngest, right (haha, Bulma opened the cycle and closed it, queen)? But theres more than that, Marron it's the third child and she already it's 5 years younger than Trunks, then there is Uub who is 3 years younger than her, and the two little girls that are I think 5 and 6 years younger? There are 14 years between them. But you probably knew all this crap so yeah, I just like to write a lot.
Some opinions:
* Truten and maybe the ships with Uub (because he didn't grew up with the others) are the only not-akward ships (i'm not taking MaiTen cuz it is also weird because she is an adult even if she have the body of a kid).
*The friendships are also weird, but in a different sense, i mean... At that age it's weird to be friends with someone 5 years younger, that's why I think (yeah, headcanon time) that a friendship between Trunks and Marron would be pretty superficial, like in a "oh, i know her/him, she/he is the kid of... And I think she/he is cool" way.
*The fandom really likes to make Marron, Pan and Bra besties and it's like??? Marron could be their nanny, maybe a cool older sister? But cheez, the girl it's better than having two girls that are like 10 years younger than her as her two only friends. Also, even if I also think that she would have her own, normal friends as her priority (like, in the friends department??? I don't know how to say it, me don't hablo ingles) Goten would be her bestie between the kids, maybe Trunks too if there is a good weather.
*I wonder if Toriyama knows all of this age crap, like, maybe he sometimes it's doing his own thing and then "oh no, the kids are pretty isolated in terms of age"? Idk
Well bear in mind, outside of Krillin, no one in Goku's immediate circle of friends was his age. Bulma and Yamcha were both about 4 years his senior, Tien 5. Sure, he knew Upa and Suno too, but they weren't as close. Gohan's closest friend is both hundreds of years older than him and yet also only 8 years older, and Krillin is a year older than his dad, only real other friend he had most of his life that we saw. I don't think the age gap is gonna matter that much in how Toriyama would depict friendships, at least in the context of proper activities. I can def see Marron actually following Goten and Trunks around on misadventures and somehow being the more mature of the three... and yet also the biggest daredevil when the opportunity presents itself. And I can see the little tykes trying to tag along for hijinks.
In terms of shipping, yeah, I kinda don't ship any of the "next gen" crew with each other. Or anyone, really. And not Marron unless and until they've all gotten a good bit older, none of that "I'm 22/23 just waiting til you turn 18" stuff. But even then... eh... just not a fan. (I'll admit part of me is amused at the idea of Trunks and Marron being a couple if only for the sheer irony and the nightmare 18 and Vegeta would endure being in-laws [to say nothing of the idea of Future Trunks finding out somehow] but that's still not really something I ship.) Idk I guess if people wanna ship Marron with one of the boys they can, just... don't be weird about it? But the other two... there's no way you can make Trunks and Pan or Goten and Bra not creepy, I'm sorry. It's just not right.

She said to me, Oh Death / Come close my eyes by Anonymous (Apollo/Steve, general rating, m/m | 1k words)
Summary: Steve thought the words on his wrist were the coolest thing ever, but they just didn’t make sense. No, really; he even asked 5up–had called him in a possibly drunk state on his twentieth birthday, when a prickling sensation on his arm made him think that he was about to die, 5up, help, and was reminded drily that it was his soulmark, dumbass–and the best his smartest friend (self-proclaimed) could offer was, “Maybe your soulmate’s a poet?” Completely useless. Steve remembered hanging up on him, the click of his mobile cutting off his indignant exclamation. It was only the next day that he looked, properly looked, at his soulmark and tried to make sense of it. Nope. That didn’t work out either; he blamed the hangover. For the longest time ever, he just dismissed it as the universe fucking up. A slash in the middle of a phrase? Ridiculous.
why’d you only call me when you’re high? by LVTO (5up/Steve, teen rating, m/m | 1k words)
Summary: “I miss you,” Steve mumbles through the phone, and his voice has that soft, honest tone that it always does when he’s like this. 5up’s heart clenches. But in different ways.

Summary: Nobody ever painted anything if they’ve never painted the way 5up closes his eyes when he laughs, how his slender fingers wrap around a new tube of paint, how his smile is all teeth and eye-crinkling. Cabanel’s Fallen Angel has curls, but they aren’t 5up’s, are they? Hyllas, in the nymphs, has fair and delicate hands but 5up’s are prettier, especially when he accidentally squirts paint everywhere and slams his palms on the table and goes “fuck!” Steve cackles until he can’t breathe.

mi casa es su casa by some_spooky_shit_right_there (Apollo/Steve, teen rating, m/m | 2.9k words)
Summary: Apollo's soulmate is cautious. Except, apparently, when it comes to coffee. Because, for the fifth time this week, Apollo wakes up to a burnt tongue. It's annoying. He can't really be mad though, because he has given his soulmate so much worse. The occasional burnt tongue is a meager act of penance, comparatively.
I love you too (I love you too) by some_spooky_shit_right_there (5up/Apollo/Steve, general rating, multi | 3.9k words)
Summary: Apollo comes into 5up's coffee shop. He always gets a cup of coffee and either a bagel or a croissant. He always seems tired, and he never comes in on weekends. Steve would really love to find out just who, exactly, he is.
i'm more fool than wise by 5fu (5up/Steve, unrated, m/m | 5.8k words, chaptered WIP)
Summary: Steven Suptic is a brilliant crewmate - ask anyone. Okay so don't ask Janet. Or Dk. Or Koji. You know what, don't even ask - it's pretty obvious he is. But when new recruit and stunningly intelligent 5up boards the Crewfu, Steve isn't so sure he can compete. Not that he cares. Totally. Absolutely. On their mission to gather intel on Polus and find out what happened to the previous crew that disappeared from the planet three years earlier, Steve may realize that maybe he was indeed more fool than wise - and maybe it wasn't a bad thing.
i was praying that you and me might end up together by Qupid (Apollo/Steve, teen rating, m/m | 7.8k words, chaptered WIP)
Summary: Four years at Polus University. Four first weeks of school. Two strangers become two friends, and maybe even something more. Apollo hates being seen, hates having attention drawn to him, hates living in a world that feels like a game where everyone knows the rules except him. Steve thrives on attention, purposefully draws the gaze of everyone in the room, making his own rules as he floats through life. They're a match made in hell, but Apollo finds that when Steve looks at him, gives him nothing but attention, he doesn't mind being seen after all.
Long Journey Home by some_spooky_shit_right_there (Apollo/Steve, teen rating, m/m | 9.6k words)
Summary: Homesick and lonesome and I'm feeling kind of blue Feeling kind of blue, boys, feeling kind of blue Homesick and lonesome and I'm feeling kind of blue I'm on my long journey home
there’s so many ways to say “i love you” and i wouldn’t wanna waste ‘em (on someone who, don’t feel it too) by Dear_MaedaysUnwelcomedGhost (5up/Steve, 5up/Hafu, 5up/Ellum, 5up/Kimi, teen rating, multi | 13k words, chaptered)
Summary: Love was a strange thing, 5up found. It was everywhere. And not in the way it may seem. It wasn’t in the adverts of perfect couples with artificial lighting. It wasn’t in the glittery cards made by factories or the flowers sold at grocery stores. Not in the TV shows made to bring in cash and be thrown out, with couples who don’t have anything to hold onto but brief infatuation and physical attraction. But in the friendly smiles of strangers as they pass by. In a mother cutting fruit up for their child. Running a hand through the hair of your partner, as their eyes flutter close and to sleep. Helping a stranger pick up their dropped papers, asking for nothing in return. In the graffiti on the wall by the alleyway you walk by everyday to get to work. To the goods baked by small independent bakeries. Flowers planted in parks to make it just a little nicer, or the ones growing out of pavement cracks with determination.

FAQ:
Wait what is this: pretty straight to the point! i’ll regularly share crewfu-related fanfictions to this blog :)
How regularly is “regularly”?: great question! LOL. it depends on the flow of fanfics that get uploaded, which i do not have any control over, but i’m looking forward to do this twice a month. after all, it’s only me doing this and i often run on a tight schedule.
What’s the format like?:
[title of fic with link] by [author of the fic with link] ([main pairing(s)], [fic rating: eg, general rating], [relationship: eg, m/m] | [word count in k], [added prompt to specify if it’s complete or not])
Summary: [summary provided by the author. if it doesn’t have a summary, a “No summary” prompt will be put instead]
(What does WIP mean again?): Work In Progress :)
Why are you doing this?: from the beginning, my blog has hosted conversations about RPF (real people fiction) and crewfu pairings. this has evolved into people sending me updates about certain fics in the crewfu tags every now and then, but i wanna take the next step and just do these things myself. after all, i’m already lurking in the tags often to see the fics that get posted. as someone who is both a writer and a reader, i wanna appreciate fanfic writers and help out other people that want to read fanfic and consume more fandom content!
Will it be AO3 only?: well, ao3 has a very helpful tag system that makes finding fics incredibly easy, as well as allowing people with no accounts to like and comment on fics, so that’s the site i will personally look in for fanworks. but if there are any fics you’ve written or liked in any other platforms, such as wattpad, you can always contact me through my inbox (send an ask or a dm!), and i’ll make sure to include for the next fanfic spotlight :)
Does it mean you won’t reply to fic asks anymore?: yeah, i guess. since i’ll be doing the searching myself it seems counterproductive. but if i ever skip a fic or again, it’s in another platform, or you’ve posted/read the fic a while ago and you want to get more traction on it, hit me up and i’ll take it into consideration!
Will you read every single one of the fics on your list?: oh no. again, i run on a tight schedule, and also i have my own taste when it comes to fics. i won’t be reviewing fics or any of the sort, and my intention extends to simply sharing these fics to this page so people will have easier access to them :) that’s where ao3 tagging becomes SUPER useful!!!
So what’s the criteria for the way you’ll sort out the fics in your list?: word count, going from lowest to highest. in case of fics in other platforms, i guess i’ll put them at the top of the list. i’ll also be looking for fairly recent fics, so let me know if you want any old-ish fic to be included.
I see you talking mostly about 5up/Steve and Steve/Apollo. Can I still send/see other crewfu fics?: why yes absolutely! my goal is to push every fic which heavily features regular crewfu characters - 5uptic and supdog just happen to be very popular pairings. so, to give you a list: core 4 (5up, hafu, dk, steve), apollo, aipha, annie, janet, kimi, ellum, koji… you know the drill. it doesn’t have to be centered on a relationship, or about 5up in specific, etc. my only requirement is that any of the previously mentioned members are a central part of the fic or are HEAVILY featured in it (sorry, minecraft fics with 50+ tags who only mention 5up as an afterthought won’t make the cut :/).
Isn’t shipping Bad™?: well, it’s a little more nuanced than that. i will go out of my way to discourage and shame people who often violate CCs’ boundaries by acting like so and so has a crush on this person, or that this and that are Actually Into Each Other or secretly dating. any sort of tinhat bullshit is a big nono (think larries). but i run on the assumption that people who write rpf understand that what they’re doing is simply write a completely fictional story using real life personalities, and understand the boundaries necessary to do it - aka they’re not tinhats, they understand they can’t assume everything about CCs’ thoughts and personalities, they understand that what they’re writing is strictly fiction, they keep these works only in fandom circles, etc. (but again, it’s only one me doing this, so please be kind if i don’t happen to know that this person is Actually a tinhat or whatever).
show fic: NO. (seriously. i don’t feel comfortable putting my ao3 account out there. please respect my privacy on these trying times <3)
I REALLY don’t care about your rpf/fic talk: fair! i’ll be tagging every single one of these posts as “fanfic spotlight”, so just mute the tag using tumblr settings so you’ll never have to look at these! likewise, you can follow the tag if you want to keep up with it, or search it on my blog to look at the other entries you might have missed.
Hey, my fic is here and I don’t feel comfortable with it being shared over here: no problem! let me know as soon as you can and i’ll take it down <3

Gordon & Alan
Secret Tunnel
Fandom: Thunderbirds Rating: Gen Genre: Family Characters: Alan, Gordon
Well, my muses have come to life again, which is both great for my mental state and annoying timing with regards to the uni work I'm supposed to be doing, but I'll make it work :D
After making a Military Bros masterpost of everything I've written for those two for Military Bros Day, I started thinking about all the different brother duos and how much I've written for each of them. Now, I might be forgetting something, but the one combination I don't recall writing anything for at all is Gordon&Alan, so I poked at my muses and we came up with this!
It's only a loose tie-in to the prompt, I think, but some sensible Tinies content counts as being mature, right?
Colour Symbol Prompts
“So.” Alan glanced up at his brother, raising an eyebrow at the drawl. “Do you want the good news or the bad news?” Gordon continued, tone light in a way that would have been disarming if it wasn’t Gordon, and they weren’t in the remains of a collapsed building.
“What’s the bad news?” he asked, rolling his shoulder. It was stiff, vocally complaining at the movement, and Alan was well aware that without the pauldrons his overprotective brothers had thrown on his uniform before letting him join IR it would be a lot worse. While none of the debris had hit either of them directly, some smaller chunks of masonry had glanced off his left shoulder.
Gordon’s sharp amber eyes tracked the motion even as his brother spoke. “Well, the bad news is that our comms are down.” Alan had suspected as such, but the fact still dumped a heavy weight on his chest. No comms meant no John, no Scott or Virgil, no help from outside. He didn’t like being cut off from his brothers at the best of times, and this was hardly the best of times.
Still, he at least had one brother this time, and despite his penchant for not taking things seriously at home, when out on a mission, Gordon was as reliable as they came. They might not have Thunderbird Five’s data at their disposal, or Scott’s leadership, or Virgil’s muscles, but they did have two working brains between them.
Panicking, as Alan had learnt the hard way on other rescues where things went wrong, did him no favours at all. He swallowed back the instinctual panic and met Gordon’s eyes in the artificial half light of the glowstick from Gordon’s baldric.
“So what’s the good news?” he asked.
“The good news,” Gordon said with a flourish and grin reserved for when things weren’t going their way and Alan’s immediate brother decided the world wasn’t allowed to do that, “is that I think I’ve found us a way out.”
“You think?” Alan couldn’t help but question, even though he was already scrabbling his way to his feet and looking around in the hopes of seeing whatever Gordon had found.
“Over here.” He followed the glowstick as Gordon headed over towards where the rubble looked the thickest, blocking them in. “There’s air flowing in.”
Neither of their uniforms offered much by way of exposed skin, but Alan leaned down where Gordon gestured and took off his helmet just long enough to feel a faint breeze on his cheek.
“Where’s that coming from?” he asked, tugging his helmet back on. Gordon pointed at the floor, or what had once been the floor.
“It’s coming from down there,” he said.
“The floor?” Alan knelt down where Gordon gestured. “Why would it be coming from the- oh.”
The house they’d been in, and were now trapped inside, had been an old one. Alan didn’t remember the exact age, but it was a couple of centuries old at least. Old houses, especially larger ones, had secret passageways.
“So how do we get it open?” he wondered out loud, already rummaging around the area. Gordon crouched down next to him with a shrug as his hands joined Alan’s in trying to find a way to open the passageway that had to be there if they were getting airflow.
“Figured finding ways to open secret passages was more your thing,” his brother admitted. “Don’t those games of yours have secret passageways in all the time?”
The question was an honest one, and Alan blinked. “Well, yeah,” he said, “but those are games. This is real. It won’t be the same.” Despite his words, his fingers were still pulling and pushing at the stones that made up the floor, because at least it was a lead.
They could, of course, wait for their bigger brothers to barge their way in, with Virgil encased in his exosuit and Scott so close behind he’d be standing on his heels while John guided them non-stop over the comms, but there was still a lot of work to be done and they were deep inside the building.
Said building took that moment to groan again, threatening another collapse if they didn’t get out pronto. Alan loved his brothers, but he wasn’t about to get crushed because he’d waited helplessly for rescue. The danger zone covered a large area, and while he and Gordon had found no casualties in their sector, Virgil and Scott would have to prioritise the civilians elsewhere no matter how much they might be panicking about losing contact with the pair of them.
If he and Gordon could find their own way out, so much the better.
“It’s close enough, right?” Gordon shrugged, still sounding inappropriately light-hearted for the situation. Alan didn’t take it personally – Gordon’s coping strategies had time and time proven themselves to be effective.
“I’ll let you know,” he grunted, finding ridges in the stone floor. “Bring that light closer. I think I’ve got something.”
The sickly green glow spread across more of his vision as Gordon held it close to his hands, illuminating the remains of the floor below them. There were multiple ridges carved into the stone, all uniform and completely mundane.
Except for the section that wasn’t.
Alan almost missed it, huffing in defeat as he sat on his haunches and rubbed at his shoulder again. At a glance, it looked no different to the rest of the floor, but it had caught his glove in a way the others hadn’t. It was also in the same place as the mysterious airflow.
Gloved fingers scrabbled at the discrepancy, hunting for a purchase that would hopefully reveal their way out. Gordon had moved to crouch right next to him, holding the glowstick aloft but otherwise keeping his hands to himself and leaving the investigation to Alan. His presence there was comforting, helping Alan to keep it together when part of him wanted to scream into his dead comms in the hope that John would pick it up anyway.
There was a click, barely audible over the noise of creaking masonry in their immediate vicinity. Alan felt it rather than heard it, his fingers suddenly pressing down as the resistance vanished. Age old mechanisms whirred back into life, until with a clunk part of the floor moved down and to the side, revealing a small, dark, passageway leading down into the belly of the house.
“Nice one,” Gordon acknowledged, leaning forwards and peering into the inky depths. A second glowstick was snapped and tossed in, illuminating what was definitely a rough-hewn rock corridor. “I’ll go first.”
He was halfway in by the time the words registered, and Alan peered at the opening with some reluctance. “And you’re sure this will get us out?” he checked, because he didn’t want to wait to be rescued like a civilian, but he also had no intentions of being buried alive.
“That air’s coming from somewhere,” Gordon reminded him, edging forwards a few more paces until he reached the glowstick laying where it had landed on the floor of the corridor. “And the roof of this thing seems pretty sturdy.” He rapped it a couple of times with his knuckles. “If the rest of the house collapses, this’ll be the last thing to go.”
A glance around showed that his brother was probably right. Alan swallowed before following him inside, sticking right on Gordon’s heels as the older blond led the way, glowstick held up high for light.
As far as passages went, it was small. Apt for a secret passage, but annoying when the ceiling lowered and the pair of them had to stoop almost double to get through some sections. It twisted and turned, in some areas narrow enough to force them to go through sideways, and at one point the way forwards seemed to vanish altogether before Alan realised a shaft of rock was concealing the next section.
It definitely lived up to its likely original purpose of a secret escape. Pursuing someone through there would be difficult; luckily, the only aim Alan and Gordon had was getting out of the collapsed building.
The first sign of the outside world was when their comms crackled in unison. It was impossible to make anything out through the static, but the garbled voice of John was definitely missing the calm tones their ginger brother usually deployed on rescues. Scott’s response was short and sharp, clipped in a way that screamed panic, and the low rumble of Virgil felt on edge, too.
Returning comms promised that they had to nearly be out, and Alan stumbled forwards, almost catching himself with his painful shoulder before he arrested his momentum with his healthy arm instead.
Neither he nor Gordon spoke, even though he was certain the same thoughts had to be running through his brother’s head as well. They were close, but they weren’t out yet, and had no reassurance that the exit for the secret tunnel hadn’t been collapsed or buried by more falling debris.
Still, it remained the best chance they had. Alan didn’t fancy trailing back through the passageway and sitting back in the rubble of the building, and he knew Gordon felt the same, so pushing onwards was their only choice. It continued to twist and turn, dog-legging and backtracking with no apparent rhyme nor reason. Alan tried to keep track of it in his head, logging it like any secret passage in Cavern Quest, but it put all the virtual ones to shame.
Then Gordon stopped, and Alan walked straight into him.
“Ow!” he exclaimed instinctively, before stepping back a pace. “Why have we stopped?”
“It doesn’t go any further,” Gordon said, holding the glowstick high. It was running out of juice, leaving the sickly green glow far fainter than it had been earlier. It was barely enough light to make out his brother’s face, let alone whatever the rocks surrounding them were doing. “This must be the end.”
“So get us out,” Alan shrugged, rubbing his shoulder and trying to hide the wince of pain that came with the action. Their comms were still broadcasting garbled static interspersed with panicked voices, but the signal was still too poor to even attempt to get hold of John. “There’ll be a mechanism somewhere. Try looking for something slightly off in the ridges on the stone?”
“Trying,” Gordon grunted. The faint green-lit silhouette of his shoulders strained as he pushed and pulled at the rocks. “Not finding anything, Alan.”
“Let me try.” He pushed forwards, trying to squeeze past Gordon to get a better look at the wall of rock blocking their way. Gordon fell back without complaint, although it took a lot of pushing and pulling, and a concerning scrape against his helmet before they managed it.
Alan was struck by a flash of gratitude that none of their older brothers were with them. Scott and John would both be too tall, and Virgil was too bulky. Getting through the passageway with one of them would have been a nightmare. At least he hadn’t yet stopped growing and Gordon was small – not that he planned on mentioning that to Gordon just yet. There was a time and a place for the teasing, and this was neither.
With Gordon now behind him, looming over his shoulder with the ever-fading glowstick held out helpfully in his periphery, Alan reached out and felt around for something similar to the switch he’d found to get them into the tunnel from the other end. Carefully uniform ridges carved across the rock and he followed them with his fingers until, finally, something gave.
Bright light spilled in as the end of the tunnel opened, blinding him with midday sun.
That, however, paled in comparison to the way both their comm audios suddenly sharpened.
“Any sign of them?” Scott’s voice demanded.
“Keep working on getting the mother out of that room,” John non-answered, still sounding far too on edge. “Virgil, there’s a small life sign the other side of the wall.”
“F.A.B.” The forced calm of Virgil’s voice told Alan he was no less agitated than the other two.
“Hey guys.” Gordon chipped in, echoing in Alan’s helmet from the comm channel in stereo with the sound of his voice in real time. “Where do you need us, Thunderbird Five?”
“Gordon!” All three voices overlapped in frantic cacophony. “Where are you?” Scott demanded. “Where’s Alan? Are you okay?”
“I’m here, too,” Alan promised.
“We’re fine,” Gordon added. “Who’s left to save?”
“Virgil and Scott are on the last life signs now,” John told them. “Your signals have reappeared a fair way out from the danger zone; get yourselves back to Thunderbird Two.”
Alan looked around and realised he was right – the two Thunderbirds gleamed in the sunlight, but it was immediately clear that the passageway they’d taken had led almost directly away from the crafts. Even in a straight line, the walk was going to take a good quarter of an hour.
Next to him, Gordon sighed and started walking. “F.A.B.,” he agreed. Alan stumbled a little as he lurched forwards to keep up. “We’ll see you there.”
Sure enough, by the time they arrived, both on-site brothers were waiting impatiently. It was clear that it was only the presence of their rescuees that had stopped them from striking out to meet them, but even that wasn’t enough to stop their big brothers charging towards them as soon as they were visible.
Scott reached them first, always the fastest runner, and Alan let out an oof as he was crushed into a frantic hug alongside Gordon. Worried blue eyes looked them both over, narrowing as they found something they didn’t like.
He was pushed aside as Virgil reached them, Thunderbird Two’s pilot refraining from giving them a bear hug only because he’d clearly spotted the scrape on Alan’s helmet as he’d approached.
“Are you hurt?” A medscanner was deployed almost before Virgil was finished talking. Scott didn’t wait for permission from anyone before carefully detaching Alan’s helmet and peering at his head. Alan didn’t bother to stop him.
“I’m fine!” he made sure to protest, though, although his hand betrayed him as it subconsciously moved across to rub at his shoulder again. None of his brothers missed the action, and before he knew it he was being whisked inside the green Thunderbird so Virgil could take a closer look.
Scott hovered worriedly by his side, glancing over periodically at Gordon. Alan followed suit, catching Gordon’s eye, and his brother rolled his eyes exaggeratedly. It was fond, though; Alan wasn’t at all surprised by Scott and Virgil’s behaviour, and he highly doubted Gordon was, either.
It was just a hazard of having older brothers.

Perhaps a little coaxing is needed...
Good evening my literary friends,
I am hoping to find a suitable partner for specific cravings and ideas I have in mind.
My introduction will be brief and a bit more to the point than usual. I am quite thorough and detail-oriented when it comes to being a writer, including some of my rules and preferences. However, since I believe it to be quite a hassle to go through every point I’m making, my ad will be a bit more compact.
A brief recap: You can call me Imp; I am in my twenties and a student, striving to become a part-time freelancer as well. My main hobbies are photography, traveling, drawing and of course, the art of writing. Currently, I reside in Europe, so my timezone could differ from yours, unless you are also from a similar region.
Be sure to read through my ad to see if we’re compatible. Too many times I’ve encountered cases where the inquirers skimmed through all of the info and upon messaging me, were surprised to learn that we weren’t a match from the beginning. So if you haven’t properly read my ad, I’ll know. I’d like to urge everyone to stick with it so there won't be any misunderstandings and not waste everyone’s time.

Me, myself and I
Tumblr media
(art by: Ayami Kojima)
♦ Nickname: Imp
♦ Experience: 12 years and counting
♦ Style: 1:1 with the inclusion of doubling
♦ Rating: Mature
♦ Roleplaying Platform: Email and Google Docs
♦ Chatting Platform: Email, Google Hangouts or Discord
♦ Pet peeves: Slice of Life

After finishing the game of Resident Evil 8 Village, I was struck by yet another muse.
I am currently looking for either a pre-existing canon inspired roleplay, or, something completely original. Be sure you are above the age of eighteen, preferably 21 and upwards. I will not accept any inquires from minors - this is not negotiable.
What to expect
♢  Content: Mature. I am more interested in darker things like horror, occultism, the supernatural, you can maybe guess where I am going with this. My limits are few, safe for a couple of minor pet peeves that I have, I am pretty much open to some experimentation; such as violence, gore and sexual themes. When it comes to heavy scenes, I will not fade to black, unless it serves no purpose to the story. Not a huge fan of censorship. However, I will not force or push my partner into something they are not comfortable with. If you want to know the extent to how far I am willing to go, what sort of content, or how graphic my writing will be, you can ask me directly.

♢ Rating: I have little to no issues with delving into more sensitive topics. Since reality is often stranger than fiction, it is very interesting to explore all sides of human nature, including the less comfortable subjects such as psychology, crime, etc. But I also like to remind that this is a world of fiction and no one in their right mind would condone such things in real life. The world of adults is not easy to handle, but it sure is interesting to explore. So if you are a gentle soul and can’t take the heat of more serious moments within the roleplay, be it a character going through trying times, etc; this might not be ideal for you.
♢ Writing: My texts are considerably lengthy, detailed, and elaborate. Third-person is usually my preferred way of playing my character unless there’s a special case where an exception can be made. Word count usually fluctuates, though I have a standard form of 400-500+ words per reply. It also highly depends on the given situation.
♢ Romancing: I admit to being a hopeless romantic. There’s nothing more enjoyable than witnessing good and powerful chemistry between two characters. Preferably I go for the usual MxF pairing dynamic but I am also open to FxF and MxM, should it feel more fitting. While doubling, I can write the character/love interest to my partner’s desire, but I always aim to stay true to their personality and character. I hate nothing more than forcing characters into a relationship, especially if there’s no spark, so I won’t respond well to being pressured into letting characters act out of their personality. It’s just not realistic. As for smut, or what have you, I have no issues with adding a few spicy scenes, sometimes even drawing them out of our pleasure. When there is, however, a running theme where sexual themes are taking the focal point of the plot, it can become quite boring. It is never the center of any of my roleplays, so be warned.
♢ Plotting: I am fairly quick when it comes to building new characters, concepts, premises, storylines, backstories, etc. It allows me a certain latitude. Feel free to communicate your ideas and thoughts with me. I am happy to chat, even when it doesn’t involve the roleplay directly. Though this is a hobby, I am still extremely passionate about good storytelling and interesting character arcs. I hope to meet someone who is just as enthusiastic and willing to put in the same amount of effort. If it’s only me who’s pulling all the weight, I will lose interest and feel forced to end the correspondence.
No gos
♦ Won’t do: Pedophilia, Necrophilia, Bestiality, Scat, Vore, Toilet Play, etc. I am sure you can also think of many other strange fetishes that have developed over the years spent on the internet.
♦ Won’t write: The idea of supernatural beings trying to fit into human society. The typical bully x victim storyline. The run-of-the-mill vampires vs werewolf plot. BDSM centred stories. Slice of life. Flawless or excessively flawed characters.
What I expect
♢ Literacy: You should at least have a decent grasp of basic grammar and coherency in your spelling.
♢ Flexibility: Since we all have lives outside of the roleplay, we both need to be flexible. Sometimes our schedules may differ, and if life is currently intervening, we can take things a bit easier. Plus, I can’t always respond every second of every day, either. This should be considered a hobby and not a job. If a hiatus is on the rise, there is no problem with putting things on ice until things clear up.
♢ Experience: And by that, I don’t mean how many years you’ve roleplayed, rather the experience that comes with age and emotional maturity. Especially if you want to write stories with grit.
♢ Open to doubling: Quick explanation. Doubling is when we play two main characters each. The dynamic is as follows; I write your chosen love interest against your main character while you do the same for me.
♢ Long term: Only long-term partnerships.
♢ Sharing the spotlight: Don’t forget, this is all about you too! Let me know all your specific cravings, interests, or wants that you want to be included into the roleplay.
Cravings
♦ Urban fantasy: Supernaturals, demons, spirits, vampires, you name it. I’d be more interested in something original and unique, especially when it comes to vampirism and demonic entities.
♦ Dark Sci-Fi: So this is a bit inspired by Resident Evil. A world where monsters become a vicious reality, generating fear among the people they come in contact with. But as it turns out, these monsters are not supernatural, but rather infected or mutated by a virus that cannot be explained.
♦ History, mythology, and folklore: An interesting take on the historical timeline, where legends and myths were once a reality. However, their existence was greatly misrepresented in the storybooks, sometimes even completely distorted. Our characters could be accidental time travelers who have been sent from the future to see it with their own eyes. Inspirations are mostly Slavic, European, and ancient folklore from all over the world.
♦ Crime with a dark twist: Mafias, organized crime, and corrupted politicians run this town. All of them have one thing in common. A particular drug that grants humans superhuman abilities; but at a cost. The drug will turn force the users to reject their humanity to instead embrace their monstrosity.
Canon & Fandoms
♢ Castlevania: Rather the original games than the Netflix series. But I am also not opposed to tackling the Netflix universe.
♢ Devil May Cry: Every game is game. Except for the reboot. Never played that one.
♢ Invincible: Not so invincible.
♢ Resident Evil: Village is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Periodt.
♢ Harry Potter: Next gen anyone?
