Dean & Cas Are In Love

A hopefully one day conclusive study of these assholes, hopefully told as briefly as I can.

I think, if I try and locate 4-5 years ago me’s thinking, this was supposed to be about how we get bothered about what has happened to Cas for an episode and a half without an answer and more mysterious silence from Dean about it and then of course the transition to the scene which doesn’t even reveal what HAPPENED to Cas, only finally brings him back into the story at all, is of course led into by this infamous Too Much Heart line. 

Now, some of the memory triggers through this part of the show were really fuckin terrible especially when Sam was being made to remember Amelia, and they scraped the barrel for things which might meaningfully remind him of her and cause a flashback, but they really committed to all of the flashbacks in this part of the show being directly given a bridge in the present day. Maybe I should have giffed Sam staring at a garbage disposal in order to trigger a romantic flashback just to drive the point home, but I don’t even have Supernatural DVDs any more :’) Anyway the bloody minded commitment to a bit was there, and therefore we can’t say any of these were random. 

As this was early in this season and a good line, it really became many people’s thesis statement for Cas and also helped to tie him firmly into the heart imagery and of course deliver a huge helping of romantic subtext.

And this scene doesn’t even tell you what happened to Cas, which is the only question anyone has been asking. It just tells you that Dean refused to leave him behind, which was pretty abundantly clear from all the scary Purgatory!Dean flashbacks already.
