THIS JUST IN! I have exactly ONE physical copy of the foot book in stock. I won't be restocking for a bit so this will be the last one you can get for a while (but I will let you know when I do restock) :D Who will be the lucky person to get it?

Hi, I love your artwork! How do you draw people so well?
Thank you so much! 💖💖
I’m gonna be annoying in saying what you’ve probably heard a million times but: practice and references 😭 I actually have aphantasia— where it’s impossible for me to create mental images. I’ve never been able to do it, so I need references more often than not so I’m not just going off muscles memory.
Don’t let anyone convince you that using references is cheating. They’re either being purposely dishonest with you in an attempt to be mean, or unknowingly stunting their own art growth. References have been used for MILLENNIA! It helps trust me!
Tumblr media
and sometimes ya just gotta draw random things on a page with no direction. I have plenty of pages where I just try to figure out basic shapes and what I like and don’t like in my style! I draw everyday even if I don’t like it or won’t post it, it’s just become part of routine now and just 30 minutes of practice helps so much!
Here’s some people specifically I’ve paid for references or they have free references and love them so 😩 Reference artists have saved my behind more times than I can count 🥲:
The Pose Archives
SenshiStock/AdorkaStock (a deviantart classic 😮‍💨)
MrFishuuu Comics
Kibbitzer
Mellon_Soup
(Feel free to add more in the comments!)
There is also of course the infinite pit of Pinterest but I ALWAYS suggest if you find a reference or pose u really like, try and find the artist on their actual socials. That way they get clicks and you get even more refs from a creator you know you like :^)
If you want something more specific like a tutorial on something, always feel free to send me another ask💖 Hope I helped somewhat 🥲

I haven't posted or drawn anything recently, even sketches, so here's a fanart of Nina Williams from the Tekken universe (outfit from "Death by Degrees"). Pose reference from SenshiStock on DeviantArt.

Sorry if you've answered this before but why did you change your name from Senshistock to Adorkastock
Oh yes! Let's talk about it! ⭐ When I started making pose references I was doing them for myself so I could draw Sailor Moon OCs. Fandom friends were like, "Wow nice poses!" and I was like "Thanks, it me." so they asked to use them, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started making more poses focused on Sailor Moon themed characters and ideas which is why I chose the name "SenshiStock." Senshi is the Japanese word for soldier and the characters in Sailor Moon were called "bishoujo senshi" AKA "pretty soldiers." (In the modern incarnations the branding as been "pretty guardians" to focus more on the protection aspect vs the fighting aspect.) Eventually people started asking me for poses that were outside this theme and I began to expand my gallery. For many years I kept the name but for a long, long time it was feeling like it didn't fit anymore. Only - I didn't have a new name? SarahStock was one but she's a Canadian wrestler so I didn't want that to be confusing. 😅 Fast forward to 2018/2019 when I started getting really serious about my hairbow making business. I needed a name and a friend (gosh I wish I could remember WHO) suggested "AdorkaBows" since my bows are pretty nerdy themed. I loved it immediately. After that it just seemed natural (and maybe good marketing?) to change my pose reference stuff to "AdorkaStock." It was actually my kid who made that suggestion. Brilliant little bean.
So yeah to summarize for the TL;DR:
SenshiStock name felt outdated thematically
I didn't have a good name so I didn't change it for many years after that feeling started
my bow business got a name AdorkaBows
stock followed along = AdorkaStock
And that's how that happened. ♥

Ignore the anon, pose references and stock is literally a lifesaver. -hides my hoard of -yet-to-be-started- refs. I may have several armature nine figures, but stock and pose refs are always my go to. Senshistock; my beloved.
LITERALLY like Idk wtf anon is on but they really are just like you CANNOT use stock images or model images like do you expect every artist to focus on every fucking painstaking detail ?!?!?! Do you think they draw a GUITAR FROM MEMORY?? NO!!
I get it; still lifes and such are good for practicing but I also have ALREADY TAKEN SAID ART CLASSES AND HATED THEM! I learned but also it was boring as fuck and I just wanna have fun with my art.
So anon needs to touch grass!! AND LEARN TO DRAW.

bro grammarly literally has a built in thing now where you type in a prompt and it generates entire passages based on that i’m actually fucking sick. i’m also a visual artist and when i google very basic things to look for reference images FOR MY ART like upwards of 70% of it is ai generated bullshit it actually makes me want to kill myself
I know, it's really terrible. What I'm trying to find encouraging is how unified artists and writers are about how vehemently they all hate it, and in the case of generated writing how terrible that writing is. Hard to feel intimidated by something so bad it's not worth selling.
As for AI art--I'll be honest, I don't see the longevity. AI art cannot replace real artists, and I'm trying to be optimistic and envision a near future in which everyone sees just how little we can get from AI art. Because I think I can guess its use--companies will use AI to generate concept art and writing in order to cut costs for actual human creative work. But I think that that generated content will be so milquetoast that it cannot make a return on the investment put into it.
Think of all the amazing shows that are out right now, all the beautiful artwork and comics. The things that have a very purposeful style and tone, that speak to you in very personal ways. For me, it's The Bear and Succession--all elements of these shows, from the casting to the set design to the costuming to the dialogue and narrative, work together in ways that make the whole far more than the sum of their parts.
From what I've seen so far, AI can't do that. AI can identify basic narrative structure, can figure out how to replicate pixel and hue arrangement, but it can't make anything really meaningful. It can't identify shape languages and motifs that achieve emotional or didactic purpose. It can't speak to us in the ways we can speak to each other.
It also can't come up with anything new. AI only works when we give it something to regurgitate. There is no AI without real art and real writing. It can't produce anything original or interesting that someone else already came up with.
To offer you some practical help, I recommend SenshiStock and other stock artists for references, if it's poses you're looking for. You can also use model lookbooks or fashion ads, those can have some fun poses and perspectives. As for grammarly, there's not much you can do other than not use it.
And yeah, it's gonna be ass for a while. There's already a lot of human-made mediocre content out there that actually is making bank. But I want to have faith that our appetite for human connection will win out, and if not that, then at least we will eventually get so bored of AI's rehashed schlock that we'll go back to making stuff for each other again if only for the novelty.

Thought I'd make a fun little post with a compilation of some of my favourite bookmarked tabs and sites, in no particular order. Some are great for writing inspo, others are perfect for having fun while you're procrastinating. It's random, and hopefully intriguing.
Myers-Briggs types done for a bunch of fictional characters
A ton of (colour!) photos from the early 1900s
Art of the Title -- an archive of film and tv title sequences going back to the '20s
Senshistock/Adorkastock, with gazillions of dynamic and diverse reference drawing poses
Roomsketcher, where you can create your own floorplans
An in-depth description of Toronto's subway tunnels from the perspective of an urban explorer
Facial reconstructions of ancient people
PDF of the entire audience participation script for Rocky Horror Picture Show
Archive of high quality screenshots from tv shows (mostly historical/fantasy/sci-fi)
List of the bestselling books from each year for the past century
Traditional wedding clothes from around the world
Random character personality generator (+ other generators linked at the bottom of the page)
Origin of crops (exactly what it sounds like)
Just some bizarre natural phenomena (and how they occur)
Oldest.org, full of lists of the oldest things in the world
English -- Old English dictionary
Beginner rules to Dungeons & Dragons
A place to make very detailed digital family trees
Some of these you may already know about. Just for fun, not really writing related - hopefully you'll find something you're into!

The reason I was asking was I was trying to draw my two characters from my stories, I just am not good at faces, I can put them together like they are kissing no face I have the image in my head I just wish I could put it on paper, maybe one day I will get lucky, thank you, hope I didn't waste your time
I encourage you to keep trying at it! No one's ever perfect and everyone has to start somewhere. I recommend looking up "for beginners" tutorials online or on youtube for a little basic instruction. Also I recommend looking up pose references. Unsplash.com is a great royalty-free photo reference site where you can hunt down pictures of real life people in lots of different poses and postures. Tracing someone else's art is generally frowned upon, but using an image as a reference - especially a royalty-free image that is already available for free use - is a highly encouraged and acceptable practice. Find a good reference and try to mimic what you see. Its a great way to learn!
Senshistock is also a great pose reference, they only request acknowledgement in descriptions/comments if you reference for an original artwork
