my parents are the poster children for things that can be fine but are STRONGLY discouraged in those parent classes. we all slept in the same bed. I was a home birth (midwife was supposed to come but never showed up). we just wandered around outside when we were young. like, adults were around but. ehh. we also did rock scrambling when we were like 5 and nobody ever got hurt but telling our city-born aunt that she looked like she she was about to faint. but like we were FINE it's just about being careful
#the amount of horrified looks I've gotten when I've mentioned those things. well WE survived#my uncle was FREAKING out when my cousin came to do it but she was 10 yrs old she was fine#its all about what risk you're aware of and what you'd accept ig#I don't think that rock scramble is risky at all but I also know it really well and have been doing it my whole life#I wouldn't send someone up there alone esp not a young kid#as for the cosleeping argument...much to consider#home births can be very controversial depending on who you ask and they CAN be really dangerous for ppl#with already known or suspected conditions. but they can also just be dangerous period. like I have a serious heart condition#and it's sheer luck I didn't need surgery until 4 days or so out of the womb#plus I almost died due to an unrelated issue because my grandma couldn't open a package fast enough#like usually partners and grandparents are not trained professionals and you don't have the equipment or supplies you need if anything#goes wrong. and it might not. people have been delivering babies for thousands of years. but it might.#childbirth has been a leading cause of death historically. and newborns are SO fragile. sometimes babies die and nobody really knows why#neurological conditions cardiac conditions respiratory conditions. there's so much that can go wrong.#ik they're looking at genetic causes for SIDS but the research doesn't seem to be conclusive#anyway. there is no life free of risk#cor.txt
