@caseyvalhalla tagged me to gush about ten of my favorite characters!  It was hard to choose, but I did my best.  Here goes, in no particular order (and under a cut to save your dash)

Largertha (Vikings)

I started watching Vikings because...well, VIKINGS!!  And it’s a good show!  But 99% of the reason I kept watching (and I’m behind now lol) is Lagertha.  Oh my god, this bitch.  She doesn’t take shit from ANYBODY.  She’s a shield maiden to start, which already makes her a boss.  But she just...kicks so much ass.  Some guy tries to rape her?  HE DEAD.  Husband cheating?  LEAVE HIS ASS.  New husband abusive?  SLIT HIS THROAT AND TAKE HIS SEAT OF POWER.  So on and so forth, and she’s had her own earldom, etc.  She doesn’t let anything stand in her way, and if you’ve wronged her (or the people important to her) better watch the fuck out because she will take you down.  And she seems to be quite an effective ruler, too!  Fierce and smart and ruthless, I fucking love her.  ALSO:

PLEASE FUCK ME UP OH BEAUTIFUL NORSE GODDESS.  Like seriously, she is fucking hot like burning.

Felicity Smoak (Arrow)

As a lady STEM major, I am always happy to see good lady STEM representation in mainstream media.  And we come in all different flavors!  Felicity is a tech/computer geek, incredibly smart, and just...so awesome?  She manages to be both awkward and incredibly graceful and beautiful and is always so cute?  It’s okay to be a slubby nerd, but it’s also really awesome to see someone with so much poise and excellent fashion sense.  She’s also not infallible, she’s made some BIG mistakes, and she’s blamed herself for things that weren’t her fault, and she’s shown that her current self is different from her past self, and she’s also shown character growth during the show.

Laurent (Captive Prince)

Laurent.  Oh Laurent.  He has so many layers and his mind is always working and watching for deception and planning moves and moves and moves ahead of his opposition.  He’s got so many issues, and he’s built so many walls to protect himself and he just....is so soft on the inside?  He’s far from perfect, but I love his sharpness and his wit, I love his hesitation in things he’s not familiar with, I love it when we get to see his true self.  He’s been through so much, I think he deserves the happiness he’s managed to carve out with Damen.

Riku (Kingdom Hearts)

Man, early crushes die hard, and my crush on Riku is probably eternal.  He has a terrible fashion sense but he’s still so pretty!  On top of that, he has probably one of my favorite story arcs.  He starts out as kind of a jerk, and then becomes an antagonist through manipulation and poor communication...but he eventually realizes he was wrong and then he just...does everything in his power to make it right.  I get the sense that he still feels a lot of guilt over his mistakes, but that grants him a lot of levity in his decision-making and experience that I think will make him an excellent keyblade master.  (Also he’s totally gay for Sora in DDD)

Look at that sad face, he has so many regrets.

Yuri Plisetsky (Yuri on Ice)

MY SMOL ANGRY SON AAA!!!!!  (This one surprises no one)  I just...this kid.  He’s probably grown up in Victor’s shadow, with all these expectations, and he wants to show everyone that he’s even better, but also that he’s his own person.  And I think he’s got a lot of baggage along the lines of being betrayed by the adults in his life?  I think his character has a lot of potential, and I‘m looking forward to seeing what else is in store for him.

Natsume (Natsume’s Book of Friends)

This soft precious boy!!!  God, he is so gentle and sweet and he needs to be protected.  He’s gone through so much--he seems to know very little about his parents, and the only connection he has with any family is with his grandmother.  Everyone else...he’s just been a burden that’s been passed around, and often abused, and it’s amazing that Natsume manages to be so kind despite all that.  It’s also the most beautiful thing every time you see him start to open up and let people in, and trust them.  And just.  The show is so bittersweet and melancholy and has this atmosphere that I wish I could replicate in words.  It’s not entirely sad, though, it’s just, comforting...  And Natsume is just so wonderful and he’s so good with all the youkai/ayakashi/etc, aaa.  And I love watching how he slowly starts to just...accept Touko and Shigeru as part of his family, and that he’s finally found a home.  ToT

Keith (Voltron)

Look. I loved Shiro at first.  And it’s obvious that I’m a huge Sheith shipper, but I’ve been finding myself more and more preferring Keith over anyone else.  He’s just...so amazing?  He’s got a lot of insecurities and he’s obviously an introvert, and POOR BABY THAT VLOG WAS JUST.  D:  And yet he’s still doing so much, being so strong.  He’s taken on the mantle of leadership even though he didn’t want it.  And then he’s been helping the Blade, and he’s definitely fucked up a lot, but I think it’s partly because he’s afraid?  Anyway he’s doing so much and I’m so proud of him but I’m also so worried about him, because the Blade is NOT GOOD FOR YOU BBY COME BACK TO THE CASTLE.  He needs family and home, and the Blade is NOT the place for that.  ;o;  Also don’t forget what a badass he is!  Busting through Garrison security just to check out whatever landed in the desert (lo and behold it’s Shiro) and surviving on his own in a shack in the desert for who knows how long, and finding the Blue Lion on Earth.

Prompto Argentum (FFXV)

I put off playing FFXV for quite a while, for various reasons, and then when I did first start it...I thought Prompto was kind of annoying.  AT FIRST.  But really he’s a perfect sweet cinnamon roll??  Like how does such a wonderful, pure person even exist?  He doesn’t care that Noctis is a prince--he just wants a friend.  And he cares so deeply for his friends but he also has a lot of insecurity.  And like, after Altissia??  Fucking, Gladio was an ass and Noctis was useless and Ignis wasn’t exactly helpful, and Prompto just...doesn’t know what to do?  He tries to help but he’s so uncertain and it’s just so heartbreaking.  And of course everything that happens near the end of the game, and in episode Prompto...the boy just wants to be loved.  Please love him.  He deserves it.  <3 <3

Morgana (Merlin)

Ok, at the expense of losing some of my nerd street cred, I have not read the original books in the Camelot mythos.  But I fucking love how they did Morgana’s character in Merlin?  She’s Uther’s ward, and despite Uther being kind of a controlling dick, she has a mind of her own from the start.  I almost wonder if things could’ve turned out differently if she hadn’t grown up under Uther’s anti-magic reign?  I mean obviously the fates dictated things a certain way, but she began with such strong morals, and even pushed Arthur to do things if he thought it was the right thing to do.  In fact, I think her story is pretty tragic, because we see this slow decline unfold, as she realizes she has magic, and what is she supposed to do?  There was no one she felt she could trust to help her, that wasn’t also ‘evil.’  And then it just becomes a long decent that basically ends in madness.  BUT SHE WORKS THAT EVIL AND MADNESS SO WELL OH MY GOD.  On top of that, she’s played by Katie McGrath and...I am so gay for Katie McGrath, okay.  Anyway, sometimes evil characters are my favorites, too.  Especially if they are complex evil characters.  :D

Kurama (Yu Yu Hakusho)

In case it wasn’t obvious, I have a thing for ruthless, deadly beauties.  Kurama is just that, as well as another crush from my youth.  AKA Original Bae.  He kills so elegantly though?  WITH PLANTS!?  And he’s just so cold-blooded, while still managing to have a soft side with those he cares about...though in the end, I think he prioritizes practicality and survival over all else.  And heaven forbid you cross him.  Oho.  Don’t do that, it would be very bad, and a straight death would probably be kinder.  (And he would still look good doing it because he’s just that awesome.)
