Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales dedicated a tree in Dean’s Yard at Westminster Abbey to mark the memory of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The tree is a wild cherry tree (Prunus avium Plena) from the estate of the Duchy of Cornwall. It replaces a horse chestnut tree that was rotten and suffered with Summer Sudden Limb Drop earlier this year.
The Princess shovelled the last spadefuls of earth on to the tree and unveiled by a plaque which reads:
This wild cherry tree, a gift from the Duchy of Cornwall, was dedicated in memory of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales on 14th December 2022.
It forms part of The Queen’s Green Canopy.
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a nationwide initiative created to mark this year’s Platinum Jubilee of HM The late Queen’s accession to the throne.
The initiative was due to conclude in December – the end of the Jubilee year – but because the official tree planting season in the United Kingdom is from October to March, the initiative has been extended to include the full tree planting season, beginning in October 2022 and concluding in March 2023.
The Princess of Wales was welcomed to the Abbey by the Dean, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, and members of the Chapter of Westminster. The Abbey’s Head Gardener, Jan Pancheri, and her colleagues Cormac Connolly and Danny Bitten, were presented to the Princess of Wales.

But Prince Charles followed in his mother’s footsteps in 1979 when he opened the Jubilee line, and he even drove the train, too. The Queen’s relatives are certainly not frequent travellers on London’s public transport. The plaque will be permanently mounted at Paddington station. The pair were joined by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, Transport for London's commissioner Andy Byford, the transport secretary Grant Shapps, and the Crossrail chief executive Mark Wild.ĭuring the visit, the monarch officially unveiled a plaque to celebrate the completion of the line. Most recently, The Queen visited London’s newest Tube line, the Elizabeth line which opened this year in honour of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, alongside her youngest son His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex. However, they were recognised on their trip back which they took during rush hour. It's said that no one recognised the Princesses on the trip to Tottenham Court Road, where they had tea at a nearby shop. The princesses, both dressed in green coats, bought their own tickets and boarded a third class smoking carriage at their local Tube station, St, James’s Park to Charing Cross (now Embankment) where they switched to the Northern line, which took them to Tottenham Court Road. The young princess boarded the Tube with her younger sister princess Margaret, her nanny Marion Crawford, Lady-in-waiting Lady Helen Grantham and the house detective. She took her first Tube ride in 1939, when she was just 13-years-old and before she was the monarch. The Queen had been on the Tube before she made history on the Victoria line.

The Queen's Baton!
The 16th Queen's Baton- Birmingham 2022-
youtube
The 16th Queen's Baton- Birmingham 2022- visited all 72 Commonwealth Games countries and territories - an epic journey across the world. The Commonwealth Games are the games played only by the commonwealth countries are those which were under British rule.
Buckingham Palace in London witnessed the start of the Relay on October 7, 2021, where Her Majesty The Queen placed Her message to the Commonwealth into the Baton. The journey of 294 days, was taken in Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Caribbean and the Americas.
Tumblr media
The baton was spent between two and four days in each country and territory, covering approximately 90,000 miles (ca. 144,841 km). Over 7,500 baton bearers carried the baton during the Relay – a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
In each country and territory, events and activities were held, and the baton visited iconic landmarks. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the baton travelled between each country by courier instead of a dedicated team accompanying it.
The Birmingham 2022 Queen's Baton Relay visited all 72 nations and territories. Here in Lochranza, on way Isle of Arran during the Relay in Scotland.
The Baton
Zimbabwe-born, Coventry-based artist Laura Nyahuye is the designer of the Birmingham 2022 baton. It was made in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, using the traditional method of lost-wax casting, so has strong local links.
Design took place in conjunction with Raymont-Osman Product Design, a design and engineering company, and development specialists Kajul, which are both based in Warwickshire. The baton has been cast in non-precious metals - copper, aluminium and brass - to represent the gold, silver and bronze medals at the Games.
Tumblr media
A platinum strand spans the length of the baton, in recognition of Queen Elizabeth II's platinum jubilee year, which marks the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne in 1952. This also celebrates her role as head of the Commonwealth.
A number of hi-tech features are also included, such as a 360-degree camera, heart-rate monitors, atmospheric sensors and LED lighting.
The lighting changes each time the baton is exchanged by two people - a move which highlight "connections" after the COVID-19 pandemic limited human contact.
Also included as part of the baton are "lungs". These are atmospheric sensors with laser technology which analyse environmental conditions wherever the baton is in the world.

Anthony’s Stupid Daily Blog (52): Wed 4th May 2022
Read in the paper that a Singaporean dancer will portray a young Queen Elizabeth II at the grand finale of the Platinum Jubilee. A spokesperson for the Jubilee celebration said: "The Queen's appearance at the jubilee grand finale is by no means guaranteed". Yeah no shit she's nearly 100. Her appearance anywhere is by no means guaranteed.  A nurse ripping the Velcro on her nappy too loudly could finish her off. One of the other acts selected for the celebration is a drag artist names "Cheddar Gorgeous". Great name for a West Country wrestler and they would get some extra heel heat if they came out painted up like a block of cheese. The paper also asked people to write in and tell them how they would be celebrating the Queens 70th anniversary on the throne. It's a tough decision to make but I think I'll probably celebrate this momentous occasion by sitting in bed watching YouTube like celebrate every other day of the year (Unless YouTube decides to celebrate the Jubilee by disabling every video that's nothing to do with the fucking Queen. Speaking of the Queen and videos there's a video of her visiting the Radio One studio and there's one of these whispery, Coldplay-esque bands playing a song for her and she looks like she wants to fucking die. They sing a song about dolphins and she has a look on her face that seems to say "Do you realize how old I am? Every day could literally be my last and imagine if it was this one and I spent it listening to your fucking drivel!". It bother me when you see all of these landmarks and buildings and there'll be a little plaque that says "Opened by the Queen". No it fucking wasn't. Opened by the Queen implies that there was a big stone door blocking it and the Queen pulled it down. Showing up in a fancy blue hat and saying "I declare this lemonade museum open" isn't opening it as people have been inside it already.  Also read that the price of chicken is set to skyrocket. HA! This isn't going to affect me at all as I don’t eat meat. Finally doing the right thing is starting to benefit me financially. If the prices of gym memberships and condoms start to go up then I'll really start to affect my bank balance. Finally there was a story about Neil Parish, the MP who got fired after he admitted watching porn in the House of Commons. The headline read: "Call to clean up Commons after porn MP quits". Clean it up? They should hose the place down after all the wanking that's been going on in there. The politicians should just submit a list of all their kinks and weird hobbies before they start working for the government then the public will never be surprised by anything they do. His excuse was that he was originally looking at tractors on a website then accidentally clicked a link to a porn site. Bollocks. He was definitely wanking to a picture of a tractor and then someone caught him and he said "please just tell them I was looking at porn, no-one can know about my tractor fetish". If I was a writer on Have I Got News For You I would submit a pullback and reveal joke where I would get the host to say "Parish has decided to resign from his job in order to spend more time with his wife" and then show a picture of a cartoon tractor in a bikini.

Queen Elizabeth's Favorite Handbag Brand Launches New Retro Style | PEOPLE.com
Queen Elizabeth is rarely seen without her iconic handbag. Now, the brand behind her go-to style has dug through its archives to launch a new take on a vintage style in honor of its most famous customer.
Inspired by the monarch's historic 70 years on the throne, Launer's Jubilee Bag is based on a style that they launched in 1972 — one that the Queen herself used to wear.
"It's a beautifully finished product — we stick to what we are good at, which is making structured bags," CEO of the brand, Gerald Bodmer, tells PEOPLE from his factory in Walsall, near Birmingham.
The limited-edition bag, which costs $3,385 and is available in five colors (with names including Monarch Purple (see above) and the Queen's favorite, Ebony Black), features a special leather plaque with "Platinum Edition Jubilee" written in embossed gold foil on the inside, while the outside features the brand's distinctive gold-plated twisted rope emblem.
The making of the bag was possible after a member of the public contacted the handbag designer after discovering the original design (identified by a number rather than a name) in his grandmother's attic. With the pattern for this bag long lost, Bodmer thought it was the perfect time to reinvent the classic retro style.
"I always liked that bag, so I used it as inspiration. I don't know why the Queen stopped carrying it. Maybe it wore out?" Bodmer says.
The Queen was last seen wearing the original version of the bag in 1995 when she attended a thanksgiving service at Westminster Abbey. Made of black patent, the pared-back style was worn with a bright pink jacket, floral dress and matching pink floral hat.
"She always looks so smart and elegant, and I think our bags go together with that," says Bodmer, who welcomed the Queen to his factory in 1992 and also counts Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall as a customer.
While the Traviata, handmade in fine calf leather with a soft goat suede lining, was once her go-to style, the Queen has more recently opted for the smaller but sturdier Turandot, which Bodmer makes specifically for her, with some minor adjustments.
"She wants less weight in her bags now, so I try to make the bag light enough for her to carry. There are many extras, so I just try to make it as light as I can without spoiling it," says the 89-year-old proprietor, who took over the brand in 1981.
The handles on the Queen's bag are also made longer for ease of movement, something that's even more essential now she's about to turn 96 and using a walking cane more because of mobility issues.
"She's often carrying a stick, and that takes some effort to carry a bag as well, but just like my wife, the Queen told me she doesn't feel comfortable without a handbag!" Bodmer says.
Indeed, the Queen has worn six different styles from the luxury brand over the last five decades and her bag is much a part of her look as her signature pearls or brightly colored jackets.
The royal family's history with Launer dates back to the 1950s, when the Queen Mother purchased her first bag from the brand. Founded in the 1940s by Sam Launer, who fled Czechoslovakia with his wife and two sons during the war, the brand was given a Royal Warrant in 1968 and the Queen has become its longest-standing customer to date.
The British heritage brand, who launched its e-commerce site in 2008, has seen a steady increase in online sales over the years, with many online customers opting for their unique "build a bag" service, where you can choose your own materials, colors and personalization in six easy steps. It's something the handbag designer is immensely proud of — as he is of Launer's longtime association with the Queen.
"I feel a certain amount of satisfaction — it's wonderful that the Queen still carries our bags after all this time and it's marvelous that she supports a small independent company like us," he says.

Civil Hospital Karachi
Civil Hospital Karachi is a 1900-bed tertiary care public hospital that imparts both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. It is one of the teaching hospitals affiliated with the Dow Medical College[1] now the Dow University of Health Sciences. Civil Hospital Karachi is arguably the largest teaching hospital of Pakistan, catering not only to all areas of the province of Sindh but also the neighboring province of Balochistan as well.
Historical background
The Civil Hospital Karachi was founded in 1898 in the wake of a third pandemic of Bubonic Plague on the one hand, and the platinum jubilee of Queen Victoria on the other. The pandemic would kill at least an estimated 10 million people in India alone over a period of 20 years. It is important to mention the status of Karachi at that time. Being the port city, Karachi was the business, military and nerve center of Sindh right from the start. Towards the close of the nineteenth century, Karachi emerged as the cleanest city towards this side of the Suez Canal, with an estimated population of 105,000 which continued to grow in view of its strategic importance. Lord Curzon the Viceroy of India visited Civil Hospital Karachi in 1900 and unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the platinum jubilee of Queen Victoria. The plaque is placed in the same spot, which was initially a nursing school and subsequently transformed into a state-of-the-art Burns Center in what is known till today as the Victoria Block or the Jubilee Block, while the entire building is heritage-protected by the provincial Department of Culture allowing for repairs and renovation but eschewing any structural change in its original design. The Civil Hospital Karachi continued to function efficiently until independence as the principal hospital of Karachi and received tremendous impetus after 1945 when the then Governor of Sindh Sir Hugh Dow transferred the medical school provisionally recognized by the Bombay University from Hyderabad to Karachi and laid the foundation of the Dow Medical College in its present location on 10th December 1945, with the Civil Hospital Karachi attached to it as a teaching hospital. The creation of a new state of Pakistan brought with it the need for a massive relief and rehabilitation efforts for hundreds of thousands of refugees pouring in from India and addressing all their basic needs including health needs through a largely inadequate and unprepared system. A visitor’s book maintained during the late fifties and early sixties indicates that the Civil Hospital Karachi was frequented by several dignitaries such as government ministers, ambassadors and eminent personalities visiting Pakistan. A 1961 entry by Lady Bird Johnson then spouse of the Vice President of the USA is particularly revealing: It reads: “This has been a visit both heart-breaking and rewarding. My hat is off to you women doctors!” [2] This indicates that health care professionals have been up against tremendous odds over the last few decades.
Organization and management
After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, Karachi became the capital of the new state, both the medical college and its teaching hospital came under the jurisdiction of the provincial government of Sindh (or West Pakistan from 1955–1970). Initially after independence, Col Aziz K M Khan, Principal of Dow Medical College was made administrator of the Civil Hospital Karachi. However in 1949, the post was bifurcated in view of its growing workload, and Dr Ali Ahmed S Kazi was named as the first Medical Superintendent of the hospital. He established a system of good governance in the hospital and was assisted by a team of senior academicians and hospital administrators prior to his posting as Director Health Services Sindh a few years later. Over the years a few other administrators such as Prof Mahmud Ali Shah and Prof S H Rahimtoola were assigned both the positions of Principal Dow Medical College and Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital Karachi in an effort to better coordinate the functions on the campus. However after the upgradation of the Dow Medical College into the Dow University of Health Sciences a few years ago, there is a clear cut demarcation between the hospital’s academic and administrative responsibilities. Prof M Saeed Quraishy is the current Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Karachi.
Services
Initially established in 1898 with 250 beds to provide basic health facilities, the hospital has expanded considerably and has been totally transformed over the years. Its 1900 beds are located in 34 department, with over a dozen major operation theaters and a huge out patient attendance. Greater stress is being laid on public-private partnerships and preventive work notably in the Paediatrics department to avert unnecessary infant and child deaths due to pneumonia, malnutrition, diarrhea or vaccine-preventable illnesses. Measures are also in place to prevent and control major communicable diseases such as Tuberculosis, Malaria, viral Hepatitis B & C and HIV/AIDS, in addition to non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancers having a huge burden in Pakistan. Today as Karachi is a sprawling mega-city with a population estimated at 14 million divided into 18 major towns, the Civil Hospital Karachi lives on to tell two tales in the same city. The services of this tertiary care institution has kept in line with the latest technological advances as far as that is compatible with the situation in a low-income developing country. Sophisticated laboratory and radiographical procedures, investigations and examinations are performed totally free to benefit the poor patients attending the hospital. An average of two million out-patients report to the hospital annually; 95% of which are non-affording patients entailing a huge cost on medicines, laboratory facilities and other logistics.
Departments
The clinical departments of the hospital include Internal Medicine, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Anesthesiology, Pediatrics, Cardiac Surgery, Oncology, Radiology, General Surgery, Neuro Surgery and Laboratory Civil Hospital is proving all the services and facilities in one premise. The first state-of-the-art Burns unit has also been established in this hospital. The department of surgery comprises six general surgical units besides the specialties of neurosurgery, paediatric surgery, orthopedic surgery, urology, vascular surgery, maxillo-facial surgery and plastic surgery. The department of medicine comprises five general medicine units, 60 beds each. Other specialties includes Cardiology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Neurology and Nephrology. The Department of Paediatrics has three units with a DTU (Diarrhea Treatment Unit). The Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics is divided into three units, having facilities of labour room and Operation Theatre. The Emergency department has several sections including an Operation Theatre and Surgical Intensive Care Unit, which are functional around the clock for use in case of mass disasters.[3] All the units function independently.
