I didn’t think TV Tropes could completely eviscerate one of their classic tropes more than Complete Monster, but they’re now doing the exact same damn thing to Magnificent Bastard, trying to make the trope more objective by revising and redefining the criteria for qualifying so that fewer characters will pass as legit examples and many who were considered to be quintessential examples of the trope for years since the Wiki’s conception get removed.
So the Magnificent Bastard trope pages were purged of their examples, those examples were removed from their works’ YMMV pages, and there are bound to be some previously agreed upon examples who will never get back on the trope. Notable victims of this purge are:
Lelouch Vi Britannia
Tumblr media
Light Yagami (yes, Mr. “Exactly As Planned” himself got cut ‘cuz ppl hate him.)
Tumblr media
Gendo Ikari
Tumblr media
Bill Cipher
Tumblr media
Professor Pericles
Tumblr media
Axel and all other Kingdom Hearts examples
Tumblr media
The Joker (Just about all versions of him!)
Tumblr media
Littlefinger and all other Game Of Thrones examples
Tumblr media
Rumpelstiltskin and all other Once Upon A Time examples
Tumblr media
Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious
Tumblr media
XANA
Tumblr media
Yami Bakura
Tumblr media
Myotismon and all other Digimon examples
Tumblr media
Cell and all other Dragon Ball examples
Tumblr media
Yuno Gasai
Tumblr media
Sosuke Aizen
Tumblr media
The Major
Tumblr media
All When They Cry examples
Tumblr media
Lysandre
Tumblr media
Lusamine
Tumblr media
Izaya Orihara
Tumblr media
Junko Enoshima
Tumblr media
Rosemary Applefield
Tumblr media
Spike
Tumblr media
Rick Sanchez
Tumblr media
Megabyte
Tumblr media
Megatron
Tumblr media
Discord and all other My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic examples
Tumblr media
Prince Lotor
Tumblr media
Nerissa
Tumblr media
And most hilariously of all, Lionel Luthor, the fucking Trope Confider!
Tumblr media
Among many more. Now some of them could go back onto the trope once they’ve been “approved of” as examples and given proper “writeups”, but a good many of the old iconic Magnificent Bastards will not (we’re likely not ever seeing Light, Lelouch, Bill Cipher, or Littlefinger on there again for example) all because the TV Tropers are for some reason dead set on demolishing a long-standing trope and replacing it with a sanitized, more exclusive, more self-important version of it’s former self that’s overly bogged down by arbitrary and needlessly specific criteria for qualifying. The Magnificent Bastard can now no longer be TOO off-the-scales magnificent or TOO much of a bastard. Kind of derails the whole point, eh?
Thankfully I think the internet has moved beyond the point where it holds TV Tropes in the highest regard. Even so, I feel more people ought to know about and sign up to All The Tropes, the alternative tropes Wiki that still features the original defining and examples of Magnificent Bastard. If anyone is interested, please become contributors and editors there..

The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living
It's cold dence dry. I feel alone even though im surrounded by the wast amount of people circulating around everyone in its line in order. Guided by the human made path moving on lines like robots trying to make it to the next day.
— “Like the painting of a sorrow, A face without a heart.”(1)
This idea that it was merely a pretence of wickedness spoiled her pleasure.(2)
Joy echoes in the air.(3)
"Trouble?”(4)
But no, it's just trouble, trouble, all the time.(5)
“We do not have the same relations to reading, writing, images, space, sex, the body, the night, the sun, pain, as we had only ten years ago.(6)
Hell, the life of fools, the life of the mad, hell, life sick of itself.(7)
It is an almost universal disease  hate for hate.(8)
In school we learnt that hate breeds hate!(9)
They’re designed to avoid a catastrophe, where you give somebody a drug and they die, or they get more sick.(10)
If she makes the wearing of mourning sound, very often, like neurotic rituals of compulsive obsession, then there is nothing like a good, strong dose of the reality principle to clean the air.(11)
It was a poisoned dose and a large one.(12)
What will happen next?(13)
What softens the heart of a man, shipwrecked in storms dire, Tried, like another Ulysses, Pericles, prince of Tyre?(14)
I prom-mise. I p-promise.
Don't trust the teller, trust the tale.(15)
Her desire, does not enter the picture at all.(16)
But this desire seems immediately struck by a strange powerlessness. (17)
Weak?(18)
Light!(19)
What grim irony!(20)
The air hangs motionless and black night broods over a sluggish world.(21)
In one case the soul is sleeping, in the other more or less slumbering; but there is always darkness, perpetual Cimmerian darkness.(22)
Yes, from the point of view of the human race. No, from the point of view of the individual. Progress is man’s mode of existence. The general life of the human race is called Progress, the collective stride of the human race is called Progress.Progress advances; it makes the great human and terrestrial journey towards the celestial and the divine; it has its halting places where it rallies the laggard troop, it has its stations where it meditates, in the presence of some splendid Canaan suddenly unveiled on its horizon, it has its nights when it sleeps; and it is one of the poignant anxieties of the thinker that he sees the shadow resting on the human soul, and that he gropes in darkness without being able to awaken that slumbering Progress. “God is dead, perhaps,” said Gerard de Nerval one day to the writer of these lines, confounding progress with God, and taking the interruption of movement for the death of Being. He who despairs is in the wrong.(23)
Emission always goes out of a certain point and spreads its waves throughout its environment. At first it is very clear where and how the signal is sent but the further it moves the more it's being changed and diffused until it clashes with another signal. At this point the fusion of 2 or more subjects is being created. What happens in those moments and which subjects are fusing?
Rubber dinosaur heads, fish-faced monsters, and plastic princess crowns?
Implicitly described, the men were at the women’s service at all times, being used as furniture, transportation, or simply objects of pleasure.
