TWST OCs Dream Worlds pt.5

Ignihyde and Diasomnia edition

Due to the curse Malleus cast that has enveloped all of Sage’s Island, everyone is sleeping.

Li Feng Jiang - Li Feng's dream world is not much different than the normal. It seems just like the real world, but there are minor changes. He has more friends that he plays games with now.

Caius Luna, Xavi Luna, and Varian Luna - The triplets would actually share a dream world. The world they want? It would be one in which they have a better family relationship. Their parents are more present in their lives, and they are able to spend more time together. Caius, Xavi, and Varian get along better in the dream world. While there is still some fighting among them, they get along a lot better. They spend more time around one another unlike in the real world. It is as if there was never a gap between them to begin with.

Haoyu Yang - Haoyu's dream world would be one where he is surrounded by family. There are no rules to follow, and he is free to choose what he wants to do. He wants it to last forever.

Peri Eclipse - In his ideal world, Peri has a happy life with his family back in Briar Valley. It is a peaceful life. It is not what people would expect from him, but it is the kind of life that he desires to have.

Ester Thorn - Ester's ideal dream world shows him having a great time with the ones he sees as family. He gets along with all his dorm members, and he will spoil them rotten. He wants nothing but the best for everyone. It is a perfect world where there was never a war between the fae and humans. They are at peace with one another. How could someone hate this?

Xuě Lóng Yang - Xuě Lóng's dream world is one where he never had an illness. He never had gotten that injury to his hand. He doesn't have his family and friends constantly watching over his shoulder to make sure he is alright. Everything is perfect, and nothing has ever gone wrong. But it all feels wrong. Xuě Lóng realizes it is a dream rather quickly and he is going to try to do whatever he can to escape it, even if it means he has to end up fighting Malleus.

Gonna be answering these with all my current fankids cause I barely ever talk about them. Be prepared to read a whole lot O_O

What are their child's/children's name/s?

The fankids I have currently for my Starlight AU are; Starlight (sonadow), Dimout (knuxouge), Phantom & Jazz (part of a future AU for the fankid AU) (infidget), Opal (metamy) and Peri (name's a work in progress) (REDACTED)

I also have a Boom!Shadarry fankid AU (it's actually older than the Starlight AU); Ecliplse (shadarry) and Dani (sticks/amy)

2. Why did you pick those names/that name?

Starlight and Phantom - asked a discord server cause I was stuck on names

Dimout - reminds me of diamond, also just fun to play around with the light/dark theme

Jazz - I was thinking of Princess Jasmine, stuck with the name when i realized i made the siblings Phantom and Jazz >:]

Opal - I thought the name "Opal Rose" was cute

Peri - was thinking "pirouette" cause she looks like a dancer to me, like i said though, I might change the name eventually

Eclipse - Thought it was fun

Dani - Dani Phantom, also a name i might change

4. Having this/these character/s as their parents, how did it affect them?

Starlight - I feel like Sonic and Shadow would be pretty hands off which left Starlight to have to learn things on his own via trial and error, he has fun though - He's homeschooled by Amy as he doesn't exist in the eyes of the law and they've been putting off getting him an official birth certificate

Dimout - Knuckles is training Dimout to be able to guard the Master Emerald. Dimout doesn't care much for training but feels the pressure to do so and live up to what he thinks are Knuckles' standards. Rouge is often doing GUN missions but when she's with Dimout she tries spoiling him to make up for it. She's his hype man, hypes him up no matter what he's doing (much to Dimout's embarrassment).

Jazz & Phantom - Gadget tries his best, not great but not bad either. Infinite likes to go on long tangents about his old power and his hatred for Shadow (cause i think it's funny). Jazz and Phantom just tend to roll their eyes whenever he does. Both Jazz and Phantom have a better relationship with Gadget, Jazz is closest with him compared to Phantom as they've been work-out buddies since she was small. Infinite tries living through Phantom as he has a bit of the Phantom Ruby in him (hence the red eye), he wants him to harness that power to help Infinite. Phantom does not like Infinite for that reason.

Opal - Thanks to Amy she has a big heart. Metal helps her out with maintenance and how to fix whatever issues occur with her (she's also a robot, not sure if I mentioned that before).

Peri - (REDACTED)

Eclipse - Lived in the woods for a while, Sticks taught them to use their instincts and how to survive in the woods. Eclipse left soon after learning what they needed. Once Barry found them in the trash, they took them in and tried teaching them how to "behave". Shadow didn't care much for them before but now they like causing chaos together.

Dani - Sticks and Amy taught her to be tough and independent, to never let other people's opinions of you stop you from doing what you think is right. She could be a little paranoid thanks to Sticks' conspiracy theories. Dani also cannot control her temper at times.

5. Any planned stories/events with the kids in your head?

I scrapped so much of the original story for both so bear with me if there isn't a whole lot

Starlight AU - Starlight and Dimout meeting, Peri as a whole, might do the whole Eggman turning Starlight against Sonic and Shadow thing I had planned before, the future au

Boom!Shadarry AU - mostly just Eclipse and Opal interactions and shadarry getting together

11. How are their relationships with other relatives (grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc)?

Starlight and E-123 Omega love to blow things up together. I mentioned this already but Amy takes on a more mentor role (?) with Starlight. And while Tails thought he was fine at first, he does not want him near his lab or equipment ever again.

13. How does their relationships look with their parents?

Already spent like over 2 hours answering the questions (at the time of typing this) and I already sorta answered in 4 so

Dimout - Doesn't care much for the look as long as it's practical, would wear jewelry if it doesn't get in the way

Perihelion Freed

My apologies to the original poster to whom I'm going to respond--I didn't catch your name or reblog your post when it came across my dash because I didn't expect to keep coming back mentally to your stance on Perihelion, free will, and the University's potential blind spot between their ship and their... discrete... work, out in the borderlands. I don't even know if it was a recent post or something that someone I follow reblogged. If you find me, hi!

Another blogger posited that Perihelion doesn't have free will, that things are hard-coded out of its mental architecture, and that the Newtideland crew may be hypocritical for using basically an enslaved ship to free basically slaves.

I'm not sure whether this was "a take on the idea" or whether it was "this is canonical and fucked up," so I apologize if you (cool previous blogger) were just investigating the concept!

It stuck with me, though, the idea that Perihelion (as opposed to The Perihelion, the ship+mind=entity that is akin to body+mind=soul) may or may not have free will, and how there's a lot more to investigate in the interactions if it doesn't, and the crew is either oblivious or "one must imagine Perihelion happy," and in a state of grace, as I believe the blogger mentioned.

Sure, there's a lot of mileage in "even the best have their blindspots," and the edges where what Peri does with and for Murderbot might run against its programming, and whether it would adjust its programming or whether it even could contemplate doing so.

But from my recall of the text, I don't believe the coding and architecture for enslavement is present in Peri.

It makes the choice to let MB on board because it IS bored: it is capable of boredom; if someone were to design an entity with specific reactions and capabilities, both the Bad Designers and Good Designers would skip the capacity for boredom and tedium, wouldn't they? To do otherwise is either pointless or cruel.

I guess you could say that boredom is the other side of the curiosity that Peri needs to help its crew and students with class and scientific endeavors, but that gets into the weeds about what is and is not programmable or required for specific emotions; we can't guarantee that you need one to have the other.

Peri chooses to accept MB, rather than actually being enticed and/or ignorant like a regular bot pilot. It chooses to help MB customize itself, messes with its recycler logs, and forges its captain's signature at least once; I can't imagine even the most Star Trek utopian creator, if able to lock in specifics to the point that an AI has personality and goodwill but not free will, would leave in operating code that would permit that sort of gross overstep (not that it was morally wrong, but it's something no one ever contemplates ART is capable of because--it shouldn't be?)

It lies by omission when it doesn't relate what KIND of construct MB is even when it chooses to tell its crew. giving MB privacy and opportunity that an enslaved AI might not be able to do (and after it went to the effort to change its logs, which makes me think it's choosing also to tell port authorities one thing and then choosing again to verbally tell its favorite people other things). It has a "debris deflection system" which comes off to me as... "using the label as robotically an as possible as another lie of omission" BECAUSE its intentions are beyond the scope of what it "should" be capable of doing/thinking... if it was a supercharged but enslaved AI.

The tabletop game Eclipse Phase has "AGI" that have to grow and be developed like people in order to BE proper people (metapossibly to lighten some of the strangeness between PC and player, since if you grow up in a simulation, you've got more in common with your player...).

There's nothing I can recall in TMB to indicate this is the case--we know MB is Athena, formed fully-shaped from cloned tissue, parts, and pre-trauma, but MB has no idea what ART is or how it could be the way it is--MB considers at one point that it might be a construct, but the vibe I get from ART is way too... glassily alien, sometimes, for human tissue.

What if... Newtideland laid down the basic code and parameters of "this is a person," maybe yes, seeded in some "curiosity," or "willingness to figure things out," but maybe no more than any kid starts with parents' nature and nuture to shape their own trellises...

And then they presented the thing-that-would-be-Peri with options, maybe even classes, and it coasted through History of Economy because this is a utopia, damnit, and didn't find much to grab its attention in... Inventory Management, but then.

Then it slips into a small drone ship completely covered in "student driver" stickers and it spreads its stubby sensors out to encompass... everything. And it moves, and the more it moves the more there is to move through, and it feels this sense of rightness.

It comes back, and a kid, human classmate, asks it what's it like out there and through Peri's eyes, but you don't have eyes--. It explains, and the kid asks a question that young-will-be-Peri doesn't know how to answer. They look it up together, and over time and all and once (as you might find in a sim) it has synergized its own career, its own goal and passions.

I posit that Perihelion has free will, serves WITH its crew rather than for its crew, and that its happiness and pleasure in its position and life are genuine, as they can only be if it can choose otherwise. We can conjecture a world in which the designer could be so granular in programming that ART is capable of all it can do while also unable to do what is locked out, and ignorant of the painful irony of using enslaved labor to free enslaved labor (which, again, is valid as an interpretation! ) but I think it is... important, that there might be a kinder, more star-spangled world, if the University comes from a world in which even bots truly, actually have freedom that MB doesn't see even after getting Preservation Station.

The Perihelion MUST have free will because

y contó su peor sueño y su mejor pesadilla.

Es que se abrió el abrigo —negro, de peluche, demencial— y se sonrió tres veces con el ojo izquierdo.

Es que recargó la cabeza sobre un hombro y, de regreso al mundo, exclamó: esto es arándano (aunque en realidad era Eau de Cartier).

Es que se señaló la boca.

Es que dijo: bésenme.

Y todas obedecieron —gustosas, sumisas, celestes.

Es que, como lo he anotado, no había luz.

Es que era jueves pero a todas les urgía ya que fuera sábado. Y Maggie insistía en contar —las manos en espiral, la boca de vela en alta mar, la rodilla flexionada— su peor sueño (el hombre que atravesaba el cuerpo de la mujer para extraerle el músculo ése que, dijo, algunos llaman corazón) y su mejor pesadilla (la mujer que, en justo intercambio, atravesaba el cuerpo del hombre para extraerle el ése que, repitió, algunos llaman corazón).

I've been doing my taxes today. All done but not submitted - I want to go back and look again tomorrow, because they asked for a different health insurance form than I had so I think I need to redo that part, but other than that, super easy. I recommend FreeTaxUSA if you're looking. I started trying a couple others, and this is the best one I encountered.

Dentist last week, eye doctor next week, phone health screening tomorrow for top surgery... Peri's vet visit went well and his bloodwork is good this time around... I've started physical therapy for my foot pain, and it's going well. I need to make an appointment for air conditioner maintenance...

I'll be in St. Louis for about a week next month, seeing lots of people, going to the farmers' market, watching the eclipse... I'll keep staying with my parents because that way Peri can stay for free somewhere he knows. I'll plan on bringing back some tiny baby Japanese maples with me again, and hopefully they'll survive the trip better than last year.

Then by the time I get back home, I'll only have 3.5 weeks before top surgery! Love it!!

I talked to my petsitter, and she's happy to help me out with both trips, but I'm still hoping I can find a place for Peri to stay while I'm in SF because he'd be happier not being in the house alone all day. I have a couple people I can ask still, but I haven't talked to either of them in a while.
