#peach being overly feminine doesn't have to be a bad trait but nintendo seems to be leaning on it in bad faith ways

I genuinely don't know how to feel about this Princess Peach game coming out.
On one hand, Peach is deserving of her own game and own adventure, and it's been too long since she's stared in a title as the main character.
One the other hand, instead of going out into the world on an adventure and fighting a bad guy, she's putting on costumes and entering stage plays.
Her original appearance as a main character, if I am remembering correctly, she was given a wand that let her use her emotions to solve puzzles and fight people. So we've gone from an overly emotional Peach to a Peach that is dressing up in fashionable outfits.
And I get that's like, the worst way to frame both the scenarios in these games, but it's like, in a world where Princess Peach can be a very feminine badass, she can carry the same energy she has in titles where she's playable alongside Mario into her own games instead of having mechanics couched in stereotypes about women.
The concept with the stage plays, and the costumes, is a novel gimmick, and I always enjoy experimentation in a long running franchise. It's just unfortunate, given the history of the character, and that this is her second solo outing. I don't think I'd be thinking about it this much or be this conflicted if this was her third outing, and they had given her a more traditional Mario game concept in between her two solo outings.
