It is rumored that the Leaders of China and the United States  agreed to have a video meeting before the end of the year. Together with the relief of the US debt ceiling crisis, the market sentiment has improved.  Hong Kong stocks did well in line with the external market. The Hang Seng Index opened 372 points higher and continued its upward trend, reaching a maximum of 774 points, reaching as high as 24,741 points. It finally closed at 24,701 points, an increase of 735 points, at a nearly full-day high.  The  HS technology index regained the 6,000-point mark and closed at 6,172 points, up 305 points, outperforming the market.  The main board turnover was HK$105.3 billion.

The so-called "Policy Address" focused on expanding the northern metropolitan area. It was purely a blow water. There were no policies that were unfavorable to real estate developers. Some big players immediately sang it. Real estate stocks rebounded and traditional blue chips immediately rose.  The Hang Seng Index technically broke through the high of 24,478 on the 4th of this month. In addition to rising from the 10-DMA (24,346), it also tried to explore the 20-DMA (24,798), but the trend has always been out of the constant bottom-seeking pattern.  There are still many uncertain factors in Hong Kong stocks, including domestic real estate debt, mainland electricity shortages affecting production, worries about the mainland's economic growth prospects and repeated adjustments in US stocks, which restrict the motivation of funds to enter the market.  At the end of the day, it can be determined that 23,600 of the Hang Seng Index is the short-term bottom, and the 25,000 mark is the main rebound resistance.  The Hang Seng Index is expected to return to the low of 23,100 in September last year after the rebound, and the weaker situation still drops to 22,244 points.

The debt agreement reached by the two parties in the United States will raise the ceiling by US$480 billion, which will enable the government to avoid the risk of debt default until early December. It is expected to be passed on Thursday.  The news drove the US stock market to rise on Thursday (7th).  The Dow once soared up to 558 points, and then its gains narrowed slightly, closing at 34,754 points, up 337 points.  The standard index closed at 4,399 points, up 36 points.  The Nasdaq closed at 14,654 points, up 152 points.

Patti LaBelle Honored by City of Philadelphia with Street Naming Dedication during Wawa Welcome America Festival

   Welcome America, Inc., in partnership with the City of Philadelphia, celebrated R&B’s living legend Patti LaBelle with a street naming dedication, renaming the block of Broad Street between Spruce and Locust Streets to Patti LaBelle Way. The ceremony took place on the southwest corner of Broad and Spruce Street where LaBelle made an appearance to accept this honor and signed her commemorative sign for the city.

    Hosted by Patty Jackson of iHeartRadio’s 105.3 WDAS-FM, Michael DelBene, Welcome America Inc. President and CEO, along with city dignitaries, commemorates LaBelle’s incredible career with a commemorative street sign which was signed by her on stage. LaBelle also sang the opening of her hit song “Love, Need and Want You” for fans before exiting the stage.

     Following the ceremony, the celebration continued at The Kimmel Center’s Great American Party on the Plaza with festival activities, live Broadway performances, Hamiltunes sing-a-longs, the U.S. Navy Band Cruisers and more from the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts’ world renowned talent.

The Hong Kong stock market has been consolidating for several days. The Hang Seng Index rose 24,408 points in the early part and then turned back down. It once fell 271 points to a low of 24,111 points . It closed at 24,218 points, down 165 points. The HS technology index closed at 5,724, down 44 points. Turnover on the Main Board was HK$105.3 billion throughout the day.

Last week, the Hang Seng Index failed to test the 100-DMA (24,645), and it is expected to consolidate first and then go up this week, or re-test the 10-DMA (23,768). The market outlook is expected to further break the 100-DMA, stabilize it or cover the falling gap on November 19 last year (25,077 to 25,222), and then challenge the 26,000-point mark.

The National Bureau of Statistics of the Communist Party of China announced that the mainland's GDP grew by 8.1% year-on-year last year, which was better than market expectations, but consumption performance deteriorated last month, reflecting that the economy is still affected by the epidemic. It still drove the main indexes of the mainland stock market higher, but failed to benefit the Hong Kong stock market. In the future, the two sectors of Kewang and China Real Estate are still more than the market trend, mainly because the performance of Kewang shares has been dragged down by higher US debt interest rates, and China Real Estate will usher in the peak period of debt repayment in the first half of this year. The external side should also pay attention to the impact of the Fed's balance sheet reduction action on the market.

La revolución no será en Spotify: Un recorrido por el presente de la radio musical mexicana

La muerte de la radio es una cantaleta que se ha repetido hasta el hartazgo desde hace varios años. Por otro lado, la radio musical ha creado comunidades y fideliza al público mexicano como uno principales de los principales países en consumo de música y espectáculos. ¿El cambio en la manera de escuchar música significa un fin para la radio musical?

Puedes cotorrear con él todo lo que quieras, pero no se le debe molestar cuando está escudriñando algo de música: su cara se pone seria, su ceño se frunce un poco y parece que se desenchufa del alrededor bullicioso de la estación. Antes, en la oficina de programación era más fácil perderse en una canción larga para madrugadas o en cualquier álbum, pero desde la remodelación, no le queda de otra que aislarse mentalmente: parece que a los de programación musical los empiezan a botar en la esquina… El detenimiento y la selección es importante, sobre todo si se trata de artistas nuevos, decidir lo que sonará en la estación durante semanas no es algo trivial pues puede pegarse como miel en la mente del radioescucha durante años. Hace unos meses, Kamasi Washington hizo sold out en su presentación del Plaza Condesa y años atrás, algún programador en turno de Ibero 90.9 detectó algo especial en este mismo artista.

Esa noche nos quedamos de ver en la Cantina Río de Plata, donde Davo esperaba en una esquina con un mojito y unas botanas de 20 pesos. Esgrimía una sonrisa bajo su bigote poblado, mientras veíamos a parejas bailar con amplio disfrute unas cumbias intervenidas por el tecladista. La intención fue rodar por las calles del centro de la Ciudad de México, sentarse a tomar una chela en cualquier bar que nos encontráramos. Esta es parte fundamental del trabajo que hace un programador o selector, navegar la música, implica a veces alojarse en lugares desaliñados en madrugadas.

Así se conoce al radioescucha, es la fuenteovejuna, su cuerpo muta desde la chica fresa de la Roma hasta un portero durante altas horas de la noche en un barrio de la Ciudad de México.     

  Las horas de escucha musical acompañada de Davo me enseñó lo siguiente: El gusto musical de un programador no yace en el gusto, sino en la apertura a adquirir -como papel de mosca- todos los ritmos que se te vengan a la mente y lograr emparentarlos. Crear puentes entre diferentes mundos, donde el lenguaje común, es la música.

Cuando ves a Davo en cualquier lugar, su aura carga notas musicales flotantes: sus playeras gráficas – cuando no son chistosas, con gatitos o elementos de los Simpsons– son de alguna banda o artista de afrobeat, krautrock, Bowie o Borchi y su Doble Redoble.  Si no es eso, es un micrófono o una tornamesa puestísima para un set de baile. Bailes que, a su vez, Davo crea con sus discos LP de colección que saca de quién sabe dónde. Como programador, teje canciones que se piensan inconexas de primer golpe.

      Respecto a Davo Peñaloza,  David Ovando - productor de audio, amigo de Davo y melómano empedernido - me contó lo siguiente: “La figura del programador está sujeta a qué tanto estamos yendo más allá de la exploración musical. Es traer estos sonidos, pero retomando nuestras posturas musicales, políticas y culturales.”

A principios de los noventa, su estatura no era suficiente para alcanzar la tornamesa, así que pedía a su mamá que le pusiera sus álbumes LP de Cri-Cri y los Beatles. Su hermana Pati después le introdujo al rock nacional con La Maldita Vecindad.  Davo recuerda con exactitud la música que llenaba cada rincón de la casa de su infancia, desde el debut de Bjork, los Spin Doctors, EMF, hasta sus juegos musicales interpretando bandas imaginarias con el soundtrack de Garbage de fondo. Para ser un buen curador musical, la memoria es una habilidad muy a la orden; recordar matices de extraviados sonidos que se quedaron atorados en algún lugar muy dentro de nosotros… hasta que lo escuchamos en la lejanía diez años después, en un puesto de tacos o un taxi.

Sus primeros pasos de curador fueron gracias a un quemador de discos en medio de la época de Napster, cuando todos experimentaron el momento do it yourself de elaborar un mixtape. Nunca hubo una epifanía, que le indicara con seguridad que él quería ser alguien que tuviera tanto que ver con la música, pero esta le fue guiando de la mano para saber que no quería ser como sus compañeros de la preparatoria Cedros (hoy Prepa UP). La falta de curiosidad de ellos les impedía ir más allá de las novedades musicales de las estaciones populares, esto lo volvía un melómano incomunicado con sus congéneres adolescentes.

Cuando Ibero 90.9 estaba en su máximo punto de popularidad, Animal Collective, Bloc Party, las Savages y los Arcade Fire sonaban. Los 2010 lograron que la estación pusiera su bandera en festivales de calaña internacional y que sus ondas radiofónicas acompañaran a muchos chilangos interesados en la música alternativa, que no podían encontrar novedades así de frescas en las opciones comerciales.

Si entendemos a la radio musical en México a manera de árbol genealógico, Radioactivo, WFM y Rock 101 serían los padres - serios y un poco más formales - de Ibero 90.9. Mientras que este hijo rebeldón, experimentaba con su misma base, metiendo ritmos nuevos y voces frescas, añadiendo el talento universitario a la fórmula. Ahora, a la vanguardia, están Aire Libre 105.3 y Convoy Network, donde este tipo de radio musical se intenta adaptar a los nuevos formatos digitales. A esto mismo, David Ovando comenta lo siguiente: “La futuro de la FM tiene que estar sujeto a las plataformas que te ofrece la web”.

Hace casi una década, junto a sus amigos de primeros semestres y en el encerrón en coches llenos de humo verde, Davo y sus compas volaban con música de Flying Lotus y Primal Scream. Estos momentos fueron caldo de cultivo para lo que hasta la fecha suena en la programación y la parrilla de Ibero 90.9, en programas de exploración musical profunda como “Galápagos” o “Wake and Bake”, del mismo Davo Peñaloza.

Fue en esa misma época que Almendra Hernández (fundadora de Chidas MX y locutora destacada de Ibero 90.9) era novia de Davo. Entre una lista enorme de tres años de anécdotas, recuerda con añoranza las largas sesiones de escucha musical en carretera, en compañía de su “siempre bien cuidado iPod”.“

Él me enseñó a sentir la música en el estómago, a apreciarla, a poderle dar una lectura. Para mí, él fue básico. Davo es alguien que contagia ese amor, ese disfrute es natural. Pensar en Davo haciendo otra cosa... No puedo imaginarmelo trabajando en algo que no esté relacionado con la música. Tiene todo lo que necesita un programador: es un bagaje y conocimiento que no viene de una ñoñez, sino desde que era niño.”

Es por eso, que quizás Almendra entiende la necesidad de una radio musical...

“Son canciones seleccionadas por un ser humano con un bagaje y no por una máquina, que tal vez no tiene contexto histórico y que no tiene esa capacidad de seleccionar de acuerdo a conciertos, días, aprendizajes y vivencias.”[1]

Era la semana anterior a Halloween cuando una locutora en turno me sugirió contactar a Davo después de que le propusiera poner a los Messer Chups por si necesitaba una canción fantasmagórica. Nos pusimos de acuerdo y me llevó a la oficina de programación para una plática (o más bien sutil entrevista), donde platicamos un poco de los artistas musicales que me habían influenciado. Esta oficina, que ya derrumbaron, siempre me pareció interesante y era uno de los puntos neurálgicos de todos los “tours” a estudiantes o radioescuchas por la estación. Entre los vinilos amontonados, y el póster de “El Regreso del Gran Simio” - de la banda reggae The Upsetters - la cobacha musical tenía una vibra muy distinta. Alguna vez Dabidson, exencargado[2]  de los contenidos musicales en 90.9, reiteró que en toda estación de radio musical respetable, la columna vertebral se encuentra en este lugar.

Era la primera vez que veía su cara y estaba intentando asimilar la voz que había escuchado en su programa, Wake and Bake[3] ,  unos meses en mi trabajo de verano de secretaria. Hablamos tantito de Kraftwerk y, sin saberlo, pocos minutos después ya estaba preparándome para aprender a programar - por el siguiente año y medio - música para las madrugadas. Entre días de cansancio escolar, en la guarida de programación había topes de pared; después de dos horas de poner música y mezclarla, llega un límite a la creatividad. Pero la opción nunca es el shuffle ni el azar.

“Siempre piensa en qué estará pensando esa persona rara que está despierta a las 3 am, escuchando lo que elegiste. Y si no, créate un escenario para esa persona imaginaria”, me dijo Davo. Esta es la simbiosis entre selector-escucha, una relación íntima entre desconocidos.

David Ovando también estaba en esa oficina, cuando su cabello era todavía largo. [4] Al buen Ovando, entre risas, bromas y menciones a caricaturas, se le escurría su pasión por la radio musical. Incluso, una vez me contó que en su adolescencia se sabía de memoria la parrilla completa de Reactor 105.7

     “La importancia de la radio musical… se remonta a la banda que creció en los años 70 y años 80, ellos que comenzaron a exigir implícitamente contenidos en la frecuencia modulada, enfocado 100% a la música.” Me contó entonces de estos espacios de música alternativa que surgieron como contra-propuesta a la radio comercial que Ovando describe como una radio controlada y asfixiada por los tiempos. Las ofertas que recuerda son: Radio Pantera, Espacio 59 en el 590, Núcleo Radio Mil.  Ovando, entonces, me suelta una de las frases más importantes que he escuchado últimamente respecto a esta materia: “la radio va a estar ahí siempre y cuando exista también gente que se sepa nutrir de ella.”

Al mundo últimamente le gusta decir “La radio muere” y en algunos casos parece que se vuelve realidad. Noruega en el año 2017 se despidió de la transmisión análoga vía FM para usar el nuevo formato de radio “Sistema de Transmisión de Audio Digital” (SAB). Sin embargo, los medios son como la energía: no mueren, se transforman. Algunos apuntan al podcast como el nuevo formato radiofónico, otros piensan que el destino de la música es el streaming como los fans de Convoy Network. Según la BBC, el primer “apagón FM” es un paso interesante e histórico que puede significar una nueva era.

Si bien algunos países ponderan el desenchufe de la radio, México tiene un panorama muy distinto. En el año 2016, el Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) arrojó el dato de que más de la mitad de los hogares (un 62%) todavía cuentan con un aparato de radio.  A nivel internacional, la producción de nuevos automóviles incluyen ya la recepción al formato SAB, sus ventajas son el ahorro económico que implica dejar atrás la infraestructura de la FM  y el ahorro de energía. A pesar de estas ventajas, el formato SAB sigue siendo radial.

Aunque México sigue escuchando la radio, los ratings se los llevan en su mayoría las radios comerciales y de política. Los que estamos más cercanos al gremio, sabemos que probablemente Martha Debayle y Toño Esquinca sean de los pocos que ganan mucho dinero de esta labor que cada vez parece que se hace más “por amor al arte”.

El panorama de la radio cultural y musical, al menos en la Ciudad de México, es complicado. Basta con recordar el brutal recorte de presupuesto de la IMER en 2019, el cual dejó casi inoperante muchas de sus estaciones. Entre ellas, Horizonte 107.9, la radio de jazz por antonomasia, y Reactor 105.7, una de las favoritas de los amantes del rock y la música alternativa. Esta última se las vió negras la mitad del año pasado, varios programas que llevaban más de 10 años en su parrilla desaparecieron de un día a otro y parece ser que ni las reformas en contenido logran darle estabilidad a la estación.  Es más, Natalia Szendro, gerente de la estación desde el 2019, ha mencionado en su cuenta de Twitter el amor que le tiene a Reactor, a pesar de “la mala paga” y demás confesiones sobre cómo a veces no hay papel de baño o sillas para los locutores.

Parece ser que la supervivencia de la radio FM no recae solamente en el avance tecnológico como tal, también tiene una estrecha relación con la falta de fondos y presupuesto que nuestro gobierno le destina a la cultura. También, los datos del rating  que arrojan las radios musicales demuestran que ya no se logra enganchar a los más jóvenes. Ibero 90.9, siendo radio universitaria, ya no le apetece a la mayoría de estudiantes de la misma institución. Hace unos semestres, me aventuré a encuestar a la comunidad preguntando a 60 personas sobre la estación para entender cómo la percibían. Más de la mitad, nunca habían sintonizado y de hecho, el 8% no sabía de su existencia.

         Estos datos, según el Anuario Estadístico del Instituto Federal de Comunicaciones. Podemos ver, que solo la FM comercial de la mano con las concesiones financiadas por el gobierno (públicas) conforman ya el 94% de radio.Algunas de las radios públicas, mantienen el esquema de radio musical como Horizonte 107.9 y Reactor 105.7. Por ahora, solo Aire Libre 105.3 (radio comercial) tiene un formato de música programada por un curador.

Las audiencias son cambiantes e inesperadas, algunas bailan en trance ante tu música (como la vez que tocó en un billar de la San Rafael y la gente recibió el set de Davo con singular alegría)  y otras son mucho más roñosas e incluso a veces piden bajar el volumen o ignoran por completo el trabajo del selector (como la vez que puso discos en una comida empresarial llena de cincuentones emperifollados). Un buen programador pone su música en la mesa, por más extraña que parezca, y con ella abre un diálogo. Davo es de los pocos que quedan, aunque tal vez nunca han habido tantos. De esos que escombran entre esquinas y ritmos que se nos quedan en el rabillo del ojo (o de la oreja). Naturales antagonistas del shuffle y las infinitamente editables playlists de Spotify que no le permiten al escucha una sesión íntima con la música. De esos que se atreven a ponerle a la audiencia parisina, la canción de la “cachi-cachi-porra” y un poco de mambo.

En un mundo obstinado en desaparecer la artesanía de sentarse, escuchar y ya… En desaparecer la curaduría musical...si hay algo que le importa a Davo, es la música

Dallas Cowboys Foolery: Dak Prescott Claims There Were ‘Fewer Than 10 People’ At His Controversial ‘Home Dinner’ With Teammate Ezekiel Elliott

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott came under fire for hosting a party at his home while we are all supposed to be social distancing. His teammate Ezekiel Elliott was also in the mix. Get the latest inside…

  Folks have been popping off on Dallas Cowboys QB after pictures showing a gathering at his home popped up online despite the fact we’re all supposed to be social distancing in order to flatten the Coronavirus curve. A stay at home order has been in place in Texas, so essentially, he broke the rules.

It was initially reported Dak hosted a quarantine party at his home in Prosper, TX last Friday with more than 30 people in attendance. The NFL QB claims it was NOT a party, it was a “home dinner” and that there were less than 10 people at his home. Sir, that’s STILL breaking the guidelines laid out to help fight this pandemic. Having house parties with people who don't live in your house is NOT necessary.  Why would you even want to run the risk and put your livliehood in jeopardy if you got sick and possibly ended up with a problematic lung capacity forever?

Dak’s teammate/Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was also in attendance and was caught in a picture (above).

Dak said he gets “frustrated” when people provide inaccurate information from anonymous sources. Read his full statement below:

"I understand and accept that there are additional responsibilities and media scrutiny that come with being an NFL quarterback, but it is very frustrating and disappointing when people provide completely inaccurate information from anonymous sources, especially now," Dak said in a statement to ProFootballTalk. "To set the record straight -- I know that we all need to do our best to socially distance and like everyone else, I am continuing to adjust to what that requires, but the truth is that I was with fewer than 10 people for a home dinner -- not a party -- on Friday night.”

"I am very sensitive to the challenges we are all facing and making sure to support the first responders and medical personnel and everyone else putting in long hours. We are all at a time when we need to keep educating ourselves about the importance of health and isolation during this pandemic and I will continue to make sure to do my part by following the guidelines until we are approved to start returning to normal activities."

  Someone called the police on Dak, but the police officer was reportedly unable to verify if there were more than 10 people at the gathering. That’s interesting.

"The officer was unable to verify the report of a 'party.' Therefore, he just reminded the resident of the current CDC guidelines -- to include social distancing," the police said in a statement.

Before Dak released this statement, Stephen Jones – team owner Jerry Jones’ son/ Cowboys executive V.P. – revealed the team spoke with Dak and Ezekiel about the party and they agreed they would do better.

"We've certainly communicated with Dak and Zeke. I think they're certainly aware now of how sensitive these situations are and I don't think you'll be seeing that anymore," Jones said Tuesday on the K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The Fan. "They are certainly guys we have the utmost respect for. I certainly know they understand the sensitivity of the situation we're in, it's certainly very serious and something we know they understand."

It’s quite obvious Dak is either totally ignoring what’s been going on or he just doesn’t understand what social distancing actually is.
