- Sung Il-hwan as an S-Rank.
- Sung Jin-woo, formerly an E-Rank, but now an S-Rank because of the system.
- Park Kyung-hye as an A-Rank healer (awakened after she woke up from eternal sleep).
- Sung Jin-ah as a B-Rank ranger/support.

Songs for Solo Leveling Ships Pt. 1
(Because I can guarantee I'm making another part)
Inspired by @manawari's post about ships and songs
Choibaek:
(I have an endless amount of songs for this ship, but we'll start with two here for now)
youtube
I promise it's not just because of the title- "You burnt that bridge A million times, a million tries You play with fire" I headcanon that Choi Jong-In is more open about his feelings than Baek Yoon-ho (though both still pine for each other without officially confessing). So every time Jong-In tries to get closer to Yoon-Ho, Yoon-Ho distances himself ("burns that bridge") because he's lost (or almost lost if we're being delusional here) Eun-Seok and Min Byung-Gyu and doesn't want to be close to anyone else only to lose them. "Every time we touch, my fingers burn I just want that love, don't leave me hurt " I can feel the rush when we ignite 'Cause every time we touch Every time we touch, I feel that fire"
Both of them don't want to get hurt yet can't deny that they have feelings for the other. I do like how the song is on the calmer side, which is how I see their love for each other, despite their arguing (it's probably a coping mechanism to be honest)
youtube
"You asked me how I feel, I say nothin' But lately colors seem so bright and the stars light up the night My feet they feel so light I'm ignoring all the signs I keep on frontin', yeah, I stay bluffin' I keep you wonderin', keep you huntin' for my lovin' But I crave us huggin', yeah, I stay stubborn Cause I can't admit that you got all the strings and know just how to tug 'em"
This song could be from either perspective though I personally see from Yoon-Ho's perspective, with Jong-In being able to read Yoon-Ho very well (as seen when Jong-In knew why Yoon-Ho came to the place where Sung Jin-Woo was retesting) while Yoon-Ho's in denial about liking Jong-In.
"I say "f**k you" while I'm thinking of you as my husband"
This line doesn't need an explanation. We all know it's their relationship in one sentence.
Heeseok:
youtube
Gotta have at least one Stray Kids song here (it's in English though, so it's okay)
"Got so many questions You seek information No need to be desperate"
Based on the brain rot I had with @manawari, this song is from Eun-seok's perspective. Park Hee-Jin's curious about Eun-Seok and the secrets he's hiding, despite not liking him, and Eun-Seok likes to tease her about it, making her dislike him even more.
"All that I want is you Even if I'm a fool Why do I fall for you? No turning back once we're connected"
Eun-Seok questions the feelings he has for Hee-Jin when he first realizes them, wondering why he likes her and why he wants to be with her. After spending a lot of time overthinking though, he eventually accepts his feelings for her.
Taenoru:
youtube
"Boy, you got me hooked onto something Who could say that they saw us coming?"
I see this song from Lim Tae-Gyu's perspective soon after he sparred with Hoshino Minoru during the Jeju arc. His feelings for Minoru probably came out of nowhere (like this ship). I don't think many people expected this ship to be a thing let alone the hunters.
"Spend a summer or a lifetime with me Let me take you to the place of your dreams"
This is mostly referring to their long-distance relationship since despite being in a relationship, they have their responsibilities in their respective guilds and are only able to see each other for part of the year. When they meet up though, that's when they're able to catch up on the things they weren't able to do while apart.
Sungpark:
youtube
"I have died every day waiting for you Darling, don't be afraid I have loved you for a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more"
This song could be from either perspective, but I imagine it from Park Kyung-Hye's, especially with how she was waiting for Sung Il-Hwan. If they had reunited before, I imagine her saying something very similar to these lines to her husband.
"Time stands still Beauty in all she is"
Basically, what happened when Kyung-Hye succumbed to Eternal Sleep. Years passed for her as the world moved on, including her husband being stuck in the gate.
Minlee:
youtube
This actually used to be one of my favorite songs a while ago, and I only rediscovered it recently
"Those nights when shadows start to fall And the angels don't answer your call I'll help you chase the dark out Until your doubts begin to fade And your heart sings like a serenade Don't have to be afraid Now"
This song could be from either perspective too, especially with how I imagine Min Byung-Gyu and Lee Ju-hee helping each other with their traumas. For these lines in particular, I imagine one of them comforting the other when something triggered their trauma.
"If lightning ever strikes If tears burn out your flame I'll be your burning light I'll hold your candle in the rain"
Another line referring to how I see the two reassuring each other that they're safe now and how they're there for them. A cute song for a cute ship

"Gyeongseong Creature"
I tried to put this off from watching till all the episodes were released but damn, it was too tempting not to!
A little info, Gyeongseong was occasionally used to refer to now Seoul throughout the Joseon period
during the Japanese rule.
Written by Kang Eun-kyung, directed by Chung Dong-yoon and Roh Young-sub.
Tumblr media
If you love thriller and horror genre this is for you! Its so well made that the suspense will keep you on your toes, never a dull moment and whats more they have jump scare scenes too 😄.
Cant imagine a more perfect cast 👇🏼
Tumblr media
Park Seo Joo and Han So-hee were such a visual treat and their chemistry in this drama was superb even though there's hardly any close love scenes. I thought this was going to be another historical serious drama without any supernatural stuff but they didn't disappoint and there's a well balance of humour and comedy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not him falling for her in every episode 🤭
Overall the cinematography, sound, cast, makeup, CGI and the plot gets a 9/10 from me, now waiting for the other half to get released.

this is really random but i think a fic where jongho and doil interact as future brothers in law would be so funny (you don't have to write it obviously but the scenario is so hilarious to me). one is so soft and unassuming and the other is intense and guarded bcjfjfjf the future Oh family get-togethers would be entertaining as hell
Do-il & Jong-ho interactions would be SO gold and very adorable... like can you imagine a second season where In-joo & In-kyung just run around completely unhinged and their boyfriends just follow them everywhere trying to calm them down??
I'm replying to these like almost a month later, but I'm still mentally here even after the drama ended like ~1.5 months ago... glad y'all are still clowning with me
anyway this inspired me to write something extremely self-indulgent and fluffy, it's on ao3 and down below
Do-il knew his way around New York City very well. When he attended Wharton, he drove two hours back and forth for meetings, the occasional party, and scheduled, solitary escapes he needed for his sanity. He knew every business, bar, and back-alley like the back of his hand. This knowledge, unfortunately, was deemed not useful enough to In-kyung and In-joo, which was why he was sitting on a bench in Central Park with Ha Jong-ho at eleven in the evening.
“I’m sure they’ll be back soon.” Jong-ho had that nervous look on his face and a tic of adjusting his glasses that told him that he didn’t actually believe that. “It’s only been fifteen minutes.”
He was wrong. Do-il’s watch told him it had been seventeen minutes and forty-three seconds since the sisters had told them to wait here while they bought food at some hot dog stand In-joo had heard of from social media. Do-il had no idea that she wanted to try it, because if he did, he would have factored this potential distraction into his plan, and he would have taken her somewhere else.
“So.” Jong-ho fiddled with a loose strand on his pants. “How have you been?”
Eighteen minutes was a long time for strained small talk, and they had already been through the usual topics of conversation when he and In-joo arrived in New York for the week. So, now, they were left with… whatever they were to each other. Future-in-laws? Do-il didn’t want to put too much hope in that, if tonight wasn’t going to go well.
“Just fine.”
“You two were in Greece last month?”
“Seoul,” he corrected. “We switch back and forth.” They spent the weekends together, making their apartments homes, and after two years, there were pieces of her at his place, and traces of him at hers. There was a terrifying amount of comfortability in it, and it didn’t terrify him until he realized he was somewhat content.
“Is it hard, going back and forth?”
It was harder to have this conversation, with Jong-ho actually expecting him to give honest responses. He shrugged and checked his watch. Twenty minutes and counting.
“I wouldn’t like being away from In-kyung every week. I tried forgetting about her for a while, but that didn’t work out.”
“Jong-ho, it’s not that difficult. I’ve lived alone my whole life.”
“Well, that’s why it’s hard now. Because you know what it’s like to have somebody in your life.”
Do-il glared at him. Jong-ho scratched the back of his neck and muttered a half-apology, half-complaint that trailed off into nothing. But the pause Do-il was granted was too brief to be classified as nothing.
“You know,” Jong-ho started, “you’re very different from the person I heard about in college.”
Do-il sighed. “Really?” He tried his hardest to sound interested, but Jong-ho’s side-eye informed him his attempt at enthusiasm was unsuccessful.
“All I heard about was a criminal who got his girlfriend killed and spoke Russian to impress the professors.” He tilted his head, allowing him this, as the descriptions were fairly accurate. “But now that I know you, and I see how you treat In-joo, I can see what kind of person you are.”
Someone who only cares about money. Do-il smiled, and remembered what In-joo thought about him now: “I know what kind of person you are,” she told him once. “You’re someone who cares about me.”
It was irritating that with a small amount of honesty came an infinite amount of transparency, and suddenly, Do-il found himself being seen through by people like Jong-ho. People who never had to lie their way out of anything. Unfortunately, these people were the most truthful, and a voice, In-joo’s voice, asked him to meet his truth with sincerity.
“Sometimes, the distance does make me unhappy,” he admitted, and tapped his watch again. It was fifteen minutes to Christmas, and it reminded him of why he was only somewhat content after the years of stealing weekends in Seoul and Greece and the US. He wanted more — when he was in Greece, he wanted the pieces of her to ligate and complete him, but the only way that was possible was with her presence. He wanted one life with her, not this delicate balance of hers and his; he wanted everything to be theirs.
When they decided to come to New York for the holidays, and he and In-joo talked about flight plans and getting off work and picking out souvenirs for In-hye and Hyo-rin, the only word in his mind was domesticity. Domesticity, and with the thought came the desire for commitment. The next day when In-joo went to work, he went to the most expensive jewelry store in Seoul and bought a ring. Maybe when she was a child, she had passed by the store and wanted that same ring, the way she wanted a winter coat or a birthday dress.
Then the question was where in New York. In front of the Statue of Liberty? Not pretty enough. On top of the Empire State Building? That was an option, but In-joo liked gardens, despite their shared aversion to orchids, so he wanted it to be in the park. He’d have to figure something out quickly if he was going to get this done in the best place for her.
“Jong-ho, I think I need your help with something.” He reached into his pocket and although he had kept his hand there all day, and he knew he was about to open up to some guy from college, his heart jolted when his fingers closed around the box.
He showed it to Jong-ho. His eyes bugged out and he gaped at him, mouth opening and closing like a drowning fish. This was why he never told anyone any secrets. “You cannot say anything.”
“Uh, um — ”
“This is supposed to happen at Christmas, which is in ten minutes, and In-joo still isn’t back yet. Can you please distract In-kyung and tell In-joo to meet me here?”
“I mean, this is such short notice, and maybe I’ll just take In-kyung and run away?”
“If you act suspicious and throw this off, I’m going to tell In-kyung you ruined her sister’s proposal.”
“Understood.”
That worked well. If anyone threatened Do-il with In-joo’s wrath, he would cave immediately, too.
Finally, Do-il had some silence to prepare for his next moments. They had discussed marriage in the beginning of their relationship, when they were both unsure of what the other expected. They’d seen their parents’ marriages fall apart because of circumstance and tragedy, but they had also seen them reunite and turn back to love after everything. For them, it was always a someday, maybe. He found himself thinking about it more often than not, these days. When his mind wouldn’t rest and millions of plans began to form like constellations, there was no stopping Do-il.
From across the park, someone shouted his name. He looked upwards to find In-joo standing near a lamppost, smiling at him before breaking off into a run, leaving empty footsteps in the snow. Sudden panic passed through him like a shiver — he cataloged where everything was — the ring in his pocket, the white ground where he would kneel, the steps where she would be standing —
She crashed into him, arms around his sides. “Do-il-ah, In-kyung and I almost got lost, and then Jong-ho came to find us. Then he stole In-kyung away.”
“So, now you’re stuck with me?” She said yes, like it was a bad thing, but the light on her face spelled out happiness. “You didn’t get your hot dog.”
“We can always come back tomorrow.”
“I thought we were staying in tomorrow before our flight?”
She frowned and insisted, “We’ll come back tomorrow; who knows when we’ll be here next?”
“I’ll take you back here anytime you want.”
“I know that,” In-joo said, “but it depends how busy we are.”
“Okay,” Do-il said, to say anything to mask the way her casual trust still made him flustered, after all these years. He could never argue with her, not when she talked about them as a pair, like it was a guarantee that he would be where she was, wherever she decided to go. This really wasn’t going to plan, was it? He was the one who was supposed to be the one with all the lines, but In-joo was emptying his mind of any fully-formed thoughts.
He pulled them towards the steps nearing the bridge of the Shakespeare Garden. Two minutes to midnight, and she was holding his left hand, while his right hand had made a permanent home in his pocket.
“There’s a garden here,” he said. “Do you want to see it?”
“Look at those.” She pointed to the daffodils near the entrance. “They’re so pretty.”
“Those are amsonias next to them. They usually plant them together because they help the other one grow throughout different seasons.”
“Like partners.”
Of course, she understood immediately.
Midnight — he let go of her hand and knelt like a knight swearing honor to his king. It was colder than he expected. “Merry Christmas, Oh In-joo,” he said. He saw her thoughts and expectations connect, eyes frozen on the open box in his hands, hands coming up to cover her mouth. “I never thought I needed a partner. I never thought I would be able to have one, to support me, to help me grow. But now, I know, I am fuller, happier, and a better man with you. I want to do the same for you. Will you let me?”
“Yes. Of course, yes. I’ll tell you why.” She wiped happy tears off her cheek and held her hand out for him to claim. The ring slid on, and she released a giggle. She scrunched her nose at him and said, “That was a better metaphor than saying that you’re a horse.”
This was a complaint he had heard many times. “Is saying that I’m a flower really any better?”
“No, but don’t worry about it. You already do the same for me.” She pulled him closer, and her lips pressed against his neck. She muttered against his skin, “I am fuller.”
A kiss to his cheek. “I am happier.”
Another to his lips, and he felt complete. “I am a better woman with you. You are my partner, in all but name, and I would be happy to change that.”
A distant cheering broke another kiss, and they separated to see two nosy people filming their scene from the bench he and Jong-ho had been stranded on. “Congratulations, In-joo-unnie!”
Suddenly, they became four grown adults yelling in the middle of the park like obnoxious teenagers. “There are two people who got engaged, you know.”
“If you ever hurt my sister, you’ll never see the light of day again.”
“We’ve been together for two years; isn’t this warning a little late?”
Jong-ho stopped recording, and they ran closer. In-kyung squealed and hugged In-joo, sweeping her away from him. Jong-ho stood a bit awkwardly, like he was scared to say what he was most certainly going to come out of his mouth anyway.
“Spit it out while I’m in a good mood.”
“A thank you would be nice?”
He rolled his eyes and patted him on the back. “Thank you, Jong-ho.”
He beamed back. “No problem, brother-in-law.”

Her drunken wish for doom, delivered with a bitter laugh and tear-streaked cheeks, marks a turning point. She throws herself into living, savoring every stolen moment with a newfound appreciation. We see this in the playful glint in her eyes as she embarks on spontaneous adventures, the bittersweet smile as she cherishes fleeting moments with loved ones.
As Myul Mang (played by Seo In Guk), the embodiment of doom, enters Tak’s life, Park Bo Young navigates the complex dance of their relationship with nuanced brilliance. Their interactions are charged with a mix of fear and fascination, vulnerability and defiance. Park Bo Young’s delicate touches, hesitant smiles, and bursts of playful rebellion beautifully counterpoint Myul Mang’s stoic presence. She makes their growing attachment palpable, the unspoken fear of loss adding a poignant layer to their moments of joy.
Park Bo Young’s performance in “Doom At Your Service” is a masterful portrayal of a woman facing the abyss with both despair and defiance. Mouse (2021) Ep. 1 Recap
Tumblr media
Mouse (Korean: 마우스; RR: Mauseu) is a South Korean drama television series starring Lee Hee-Joon, Lee Seung-Gi, Park Ju-Hyun, and Kyung Soo-Jin. It premiered on tvN on March 3, 2021 and aired every Wednesday and Thursday at 22:30 KST until May 20, 2021.
Mouse imagines a scenerio where psychopaths could feel remorse and guilt for their actions. The story follows Go Moo-Chi as he tries to catch a psychopathic killer. He witnessed a horrific incident as a child and is dealing with the trauma. Together with his younger partner Jeong Ba-Reum, he tries to uncover the truth behind psychopathic behaviour and to answer the question of whether there is a genetic predisposition to psychopathy - and how to act on this knowledge if it could be detected.
EP. 1 The country is struck with terror as news of an unsolved serial killing case spreads. A family of four visits a campsite and tragically falls victim to the serial killer known as Head Hunter. A boy surives the attack and identifies the prime suspect as the killer. Meanwhile, Head Hunter's baby undergoes a gene test to determine potential psychopathic characteristics, and the mother is faced with a difficult decision.
If you want to watch the series for yourself, stop reading! This post contains spoilers to the storyline.
During a visit to the zoo, a classroom of children observed a large black snake in a glass enclosure. One child, who appeared emotionless, secretly released a small rat into the enclosure. The snake immediately attacked the rat, causing the other children to flee in terror. The child who released the rat remained to watch as the snake attempted to catch the rat, but was ultimately bitten in self-defense. The snake shakes off the rat. The rat turns and launches itself at the snake again, its eyes shining red.
Tumblr media
Five years later, the same boy enters an empty church to ask an important question of the stained-glass Jesus. He asks, "Do I seem different to you, too? They say it's how I was born. They say I was born different." But no answer comes.
Tumblr media
Ten years earlier, a young woman is dropped off by a taxi at the bottom of a steep hill in the middle of a snowstorm. She uses a phone booth to call home and explains that the road was too icy for the taxi, so she will be walking the rest of the way. As she hangs up, she hears a plaintive voice calling out for her. There is a small girl in the road who cries that there was an accident and her father is still in the nearby car. The young woman approached the car. When she opened the door, the driver attacked her. She begged for her life in vain. Nearby, the little girl sobbed at the violent scene.
Tumblr media
A week later, a diver discovers the headless body of a young woman in the ocean. The victim has a series of letters and numbers marked on her hand and is identified as the latest victim of the Head Hunter, a serial killer.
In England, a year later, scientist Daniel Lee gave a lecture where he identified a gene present in the DNA of psychopaths, a personality disorder characterized by a lack of empathy for others. Daniel predicted that we will soon be able to predict whether an unborn child might be a murderer based on the presence of this gene.
Tumblr media
The president calls Daniel back to Korea to stop the Head Hunter's killing spree. During his speech, Daniel presents his DNA findings, revealing that one percent of people with the psychopath gene become murderers. However, his test has a 99% success rate, with the remaining 1% indicating that the person will be a genius. The genes for genius and psychopath are so similar that it is difficult for Daniel to differentiate between them. Eliminating psychopaths could also mean killing potential geniuses. The question at hand is whether the government can require a mother to have an abortion if the psychopath gene is detected. Ultimately, the proposal is rejected.
That evening, Daniel visits his old friend Han Seo-Joon, whose wife Ji-Eun is heavily pregnant with their first child. Seo-Joon and Ji-Eun are clearly in love, with Seo-Joon doting on Ji-Eun and Ji-Eun returning his affections. However, Daniel feels a bit sad when he sees their wedding photos. This is because Seo-Joon's first love was Daniel's sister, Jennifer, who died seven years ago in a random mugging. When the subject comes up, Seo-Joon appears sad, but Daniel insists that he is thrilled to see Seo-Joon married and happy. Seo-Joon drives Daniel to his hotel and promises to visit him in England soon.
Tumblr media
A family of four is traveling through the area. They get briefly lost and ask another driver for directions. They stop at a campground for the night, but unfortunately, the ceiling in the kitchen caved in from the snow, so the campground is closed. Despite this, the family decides to stay and rough it. The father is searching for the mother who is away getting water. He hears his wife crying out. An ominous figure with a knife looms over her as she pleads for her life. Her husband jumps at the attacker and yells for her to run. She races back to their van with their boys, Moo-Won and Moo-Chi, but the van won't start.
Tumblr media
The attacker approaches, so she pushes the boys down to hide. She instructs Moo-Won to protect his little brother and hide with him in a cupboard. After uttering a small prayer, she goes out into the night.
The boys hid, but the attacker soon reached the van and attempted to break in. The mother distracted him and led him away from the van, but unfortunately, she was caught and stabbed multiple times. Despite her best efforts, the attacker quickly overpowered her and returned to the van, where the boys were now out of hiding and screaming for their mother. Moo-Won then locked little Moo-Chin into a suitcase and shoved it under a bench before attempting to hide himself. The attacker found Moo-Chi's suitcase first and began breaking it open. Moo-Won remembered his promise to protect his little brother and came out of hiding to lead the attacker out of the van. However, the attacker caught him and repeatedly hit him.
Tumblr media
Later that night, Detective Park Doo-Seok was called to the hospital to speak with young Moo-Chi, who was in deep shock. Moo-Won is undergoing surgery due to severe injuries. His parents were murdered, but their bodies have disappeared. Detective Park, whose daughter was also abducted by the Head Hunter years ago, pressures Moo-Chi to identify the killer's face. When Moo-Chi is unable to speak, Detective Park becomes frustrated and scares the little boy even more. As he is being taken away, Moo-Chi sees something that causes him to scream. He points at a picture on the wall and yells, "It's him!"
Tumblr media
Ji-Eun wakes up late and finds herself alone in bed. She goes out to search for Seo-Joon. He enters with an armful of firewood. Ji-Eun smiles at the family of snowmen he built in the front yard. Earlier, Seo-Joon had told Daniel that he would terminate the pregnancy if their baby had the psychopathy gene. However, Ji-Eun is uncertain about what she would do. Several police cars suddenly arrive at the driveway. Detective Park orders Seo-Joon's house to be searched and arrests him at gunpoint, growling that he is the Head Hunter. It turns out that the photo that Moo-Chi pointed out as his family's attacker was one of Seo-Joon, who is a neurosurgeon at the hospital.
While Detective Park was obtaining the search warrant, Moo-Chi took a scalpel from a discarded surgical tray and sneaked into the patrol car. In the ensuing confusion, he lunged out of the car and slashed Seo-Joon's face. He attempted to stab Seo-Joon again, but Detective Park intervened, accidentally knocking the head off one of the snowmen. The snowman's head shattered on the ground, revealing a black plastic bag inside. One of the officers peered inside, then dropped it in horror. Moo-Chi sees blood in the snow. He also sees the barrette his mother was wearing, still clipped around a lock of her hair. Ji-Eun witnesses this scene from inside, and the truth hits her like a ton of bricks.
Tumblr media
The bodies of Moo-Chi's parents are eventually found in Ji-Eun's greenhouse, furthering the theory that Seo-Joon is the Head Hunter. Despite Detective Park and the families of the deceased being dismayed, Seo-Joon continues to protest his innocence and wish for the real killer to be found. Daniel assures Ji-Eun that Seo-Joon cannot be guilty because he loves her. According to Daniel, psychopaths cannot have love anyone but themselves. However, Ji-Eun confronts Seo-Joon in front of reporters, claiming that she knows he is guilty. She saw him putting the head on the snowman that contained his victim's head, and she even has a picture of proof. Seo-Joon's drops the innocent act, and a flashback reveals that he is the one who killed Moo-Chi's parents. Ji-Eun tearfully asks why he even married her if he can't love her. Seo-Joon sneers and replies, "I guess you could call it my will to reproduce. I needed an offspring. Han Seo-Joon Junior."
Tumblr media
Floored, Daniel ran into the police station, grabbed Seo-Joon and flinging him into an interrogation room. He asked Seo-Joon if he killed his sister. Seo-Joon responded emotionlessly that she still hid from him after being stabbed twenty times. He threatened to kill her mother and Daniel if she didn't come out. Seo-Joon laughed at the memory of how she looked when she crawled to him. He snarls that she killed his baby and brags about keeping his promise not to hurt her family. He finishes his story by saying, "The pleading look in her eyes couldn't have been sexier," leaving Daniel sobbing on his knees.
Tumblr media
Daniel offers to run a genetic test on Ji-Eun's unborn baby, and she accepts. The results reveal that the baby has the psychopath gene, causing Ji-Eun to panic and demand an abortion. However, Daniel reminds her that she is too far along for that option and suggests they discuss other alternatives. In the hallway, a pregnant woman approaches Ji-Eun. She explains that her husband worked with Daniel in England. To help, she volunteered to have her baby tested. Her husband had told her that their baby was normal, but she found out that he had lied to her because he didn't want to scare her. Sadly, her husband died recently in an accident, and she is now faced with the decision of whether or not to end the pregnancy. The woman informs Ji-Eun that her baby is the only thing she has left of the father, who she believes was a good man. Therefore, she does not think her baby is a psychopath. However, Ji-Eun does not have the same assurance about her baby's father.
Tumblr media
Seo-Joon was sentenced to death and spent his time in prison waiting for his sentence to be carried out. Five years later, he read a news article that Daniel had returned to Korea. Seo-Joon mailed two live rats to his former friend. Meanwhile, a little boy name Jae-Hoon also caught a rat to set it free in the snake enclosure at the zoo.
Jae-Hoon's teacher becomes concerned about his mental health when he kills the class rabbit as he wanted to check if it had gained weight or was pregnant. He scratches his arm to shreds, explaining that he is annoyed with the other kids but cannot take it out on them, so he takes it out on himself. Jae-Hoon's teacher mentions that the other kids are absent. Jae-Hoon becomes annoyed by the way she looks at him, as if he's weird. The teacher calls in Jae-Hoon's stepfather and informs him that a recent IQ test shows that Jae-Hoon is well above genius level. However, she expresses concern about his mental state and recommends therapy. Unfortunately, stepdad takes offense and reacts by dragging Jae-Hoon into an alley after school and slapping him hard. He then calls Jae-Hoon's mother to complain that Jae-Hoon humiliated him.
Tumblr media
Jae-Hoon has two younger siblings (Jae-Min and Jae-Hee). Jae-Hee appears to have a mental disability. One day, Jae-Min catches Jae-Hoon pouring ammonia into his stepfather's fish tank. He pleads with Jae-Hoon not to kill his dad's favourite fish, but Jae-Hoon ignores him and continues. Afterward, Jae-Hoon takes his stepfather's dog, Choco, warns Jae-Min not to tell anyone. Upn stepdad's arrival home, he discovers his fish has passed away and Jae-Min is hesitant to speak. However, Jae-Hee repeats her brothers' conversation verbatim. Stepdad proceeds to search for Jae-Hoon and upon arriving at the park, he discovers his dog, Choco, floating lifeless in the pond. After finding Jae-Hoon, he drags him home and physically assaults him while calling him and "evil bastard".
Tumblr media
Later, a bruised Jae-Hoon invites Jae-Min to visit Choco's grave in a nearby wooded area. Jae-Min was praying when Jae-Hoon pushed him into a hole that he had dug. Jae-Hoon accused Jae-Min of tattling, but Jae-Min denied it. Despite this, Jae-Hoon insisted that Jae-Min needed to be punished and began shoveling dirt into the hole. Fortunately, their mother arrives just in time. She pushes Jae-Hoon to the ground, helps Jae-Min out of the hole, and then begins to choke Jae-Hoon while telling him to die. Jae-Hoon looks up at his mother.
Tumblr media
Jae-Hoon manages to escape and goes to the church where we first saw him. He asks Jesus if he's truly different and if he was genuinely born a monster. In the voiceover, he expresses his prayer to not become a monster.
However, fifteen years later, Jesus had never answered his prayer, and he ended up becoming a killer. In the flashback, Jae-Hoon stands over his stepfather's body while Jae-Min and Jae-Hee hide. He calmly removes the knife from the man's chest and slowly walks up the stairs where his mother waits.

SFD rewatch, episodes 1-5
One of the best first episodes of a series. Quickly and indelibly establishes the characterization of all the major players.
Love the kid actors, but mainly Lee Re as Boon-yi.
Piglet scene still as unacceptable as the first time. Come on.
Absolutely in love with the theatrical scene constructions, including how we meet Jeong do jeon (stealing a potato); the farce at Yi In geom's residence, Ddang-sae telling the story of "Viper", and the first time we see the Do Dang. I do love Jeong do-jeon inciting a riot (and Kim Myung-min's sexy sexy voice) but also? I think on the first watch and now, it felt a bit off. Mostly because the song becomes a swelling soundtrack over the scene- I wish they had just let it be Jeong do jeon's voice going hoarse and a few people singing it.
Got impatient with the segue into Gongmin's assassination, and at some points the name drops become tiresome. I know SFD was written for an audience familiar with these characters, and so this is on me, but having to pause every few minutes to look up wiki or bodashri's tumblr (seriously MVP of the SFD fandom) is not a great viewing experience for me.
Gil Tae mi -11/10 no notes, especially in that mango-yellow robe. Park Hyuk-kwon completely pussy out in this drama, playing twins who are polar opposites in everything except that they fight like ballet dancers.
Had to ffwd Yeon-hee's rape scene and aftermath. Yes, we get it, losing his mother and his lover are foundational to everything about Ddang-sae, but hoo boy, how about they'd...just not?
I just really, really enjoy Hong In-bang's villainy- his turn to it makes 50 times more sense to me that whatever is going on with that little psycho with his murder grove. [When he went on about justice preventing evil, my eyes rolled back in my head so hard. OKAY, you pathetic little meow-meow, if that works for you, I GUESS.]
Love that the writers re-used a line from TwDR- paraphrased, it's that "the people endure, while monarchies rise and fall". In TwDR, when Sejong says it to Jeong gi-joon, it's to refute his rather nihilistic view of the chaotic future where people are able to choose their own leaders; here Hong In bang uses it to justify raising taxes on an already overtaxed population. Writers nim, your minds.
Boon yi is THE BEST
Moo-hyul is a baby. Imagine watching the extremely boring Jo Jin-woong playing this character in 2011 and then waking up to Yoon Kyung-sang's adorable himbeaux portrayal in this.
Byun Yo-han is such a genuinely lovely actor; I just wish that Ddang-sae's whole trajectory wasn't unmitigated misery. It's harder on the rewatch because at least the first time I had hope. I think writer nims are fond of reminding us that being born poor , and consequently often powerless to resist constant degradation, is a lifelong curse that only a few escape- you see it in Kang Chae Yoon's fate as well- but I think Kang Chae yoon's fate felt like less of a punishment by capricious gods than Ddang-sae's.
Ok, but Byun Yo-han and that marketplace performance. LOVELY.
Ddang-sae's leaving Baek Yoon's dead body in the street like a prom invite for Sambong. (and then he went and left and actual note that says "whom do i kill next?") made me laugh. C'mon Sambong, take some time out from fulfilling your divine purpose to give this boy the railing he deserves. I feel like so many of both their problems would have been solved by this.

I'm re-watching this Korean rom com and it's so much more unhinged than I remember. Like, over the years I still think about this one.
If you haven't seen it, let me just briefly explain. First, it's about the woman in the green shirt above, named Oh Hae Young, an apparently common name in Korea. When she was in high school, there was another girl in her class named Oh Hae Young, dubbed the Pretty Oh Hae Young (she was Regular Oh Hae Young). As you may imagine, some she now has a fucked up complex about being compared to this other Oh Hae Young.
Fast forward to her thirties. Our main character is engaged to a man named Tae Jin. He dumps her before their wedding saying he can't stand the way she eats. What she doesn't know is that this guy
Tumblr media
Park Do Kyung is the real reason. He used to be engaged to Pretty Oh Hae Young and she dumped him the day of their wedding a year ago. Thinking that she was now engaged to Tae Jin, and not knowing there were two Oh Hae Youngs at their high school, he ruins Tae Jin's life. Destroys his career, and set him up to go to prison. PRISON.
This sets into motion a series of events that start with him having premonitions about Main Oh Hae Young. A bunch of stuff happens and the two end up inextricably involved in each other's lives. He figures out pretty quick that he made a huge ass mistake and works with his lawyer friend to help Tae Jin get out of prison, but the damage is done.
In spite of his enormous guilt, Park Do Kyung ends up falling in love with this Oh Hae Young and doing all sorts of shit out of his feelings of guilt/affection. When Tae Jin gets out of jail, Do Kyung wants to prevent him from telling Hae Young the truth so he straight up rams his car.
I mean seriously, this guy puts this guy in prison, wrecks his marriage, wrecks his car, and then STEALS HIS GIRL. When Hae Young does end up finding out about all of this, you know what he says, "AND I'D DO IT AGAIN, TOO."
Award for most unhinged male romantic k-drama "hero" (?) goes to Park Do Kyung.

Park Hee-jin strikes me so much of a big sister type. Yes, she's pretty and cute and kind, but once she gets serious, her mind/instincts is her ultimate weapon and will protect someone with all her might. To her, survival must come first and fight when there are no other options.
Han Song-yi? Considering that the anime gave Song-yi green eyes, I will be losing my mind once she and Hee-jin are onscreen together. They'd look very alike! Hee-jin will definitely guide Song-yi on being a hunter and no one can tell me otherwise.
Sung Jin-woo? I live for the friendship and sisterly bond! Sure, he's stronger than her, but will that stop Hee-jin? Nope — I imagine Jin-woo seeing his mom in Hee-jin, especially when she resembles Kyung-hye a little, and it makes him want to see her as a sister. Hee-jin checking on him every time and reminding him to be careful, which Jin-woo often responds in a playful way.
Sung Jin-ah? Well, if Song-yi and Jin-woo can be close with Hee-jin, Jin-ah can too!
And I'd like to add Lee Ju-hee here as well. I've brainstormed a lot between her and Hee-jin, which made me realize how great their dynamic could've been. They're both B-Ranks and Hee-jin will do anything to keep Ju-hee safe; she'll help her get through her demons and give her the encouragement she needs.

greed bloomed from an orchid ~ little women (part I: the seed episode 1 recap)
Warning: Read at the risk of spoilers
I recently finished watching Little Women, which just completed its 12 episode on Netflix. If you haven't watched the show and you're wondering if the title is a homage to Louisa May Alcott's famous novel, the title of the show was inspired by the novel and is a very loose retelling of the book. Little Women, the k-drama, is a dark and twisted adaptation that takes place in a modern day hyper-capitalistic South Korea that is fueled by greed and selfish pursuit. However, like the novel, the show is a story about sisters, but imagine Beth dying as an infant.
There's an incident in the book, where Meg, impulsively buys expensive fabric that her husband cannot afford because she gets miffed by Sallie. For the most part, Meg, is a kind loyal sister, but throughout the book, we see that Meg is kinda vain and we see her aspiring to be part of an upper class that she could never belong to. Oh In Joo, her k-drama counterpart, is an exaggerated version of these flaws -In Joo can't stop talking about how poor she is and as she states herself, the only things she's ever cared for are men and money. Her younger sister, Oh In-Kyung, is based off of Jo. Like Jo, In-Kyung is fiercely independent and her goals in life are larger than the mere need to make money. In-Kyung is a journalist who is deeply passionate about her work and has an unyielding commitment to pursue the truth. She, like Jo, spent much of her life under the care of her cold but wealthy nurse turned real estate agent great aunt, Hye-Soek.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The youngest sister is the teenage On In Hye, who like her novel counterpart, Amy, is a prodigious art student studying in a prestigious high school for the arts in Seoul. For me, In-Hye reminds me of Greta Gerwig's Amy played by Florence Hugh. At first glance, In Hye, much like her eldest sister, is fixated on how her poverty impedes her dreams to study abroad in Europe. In-Hye appears ruthless and selfish in her approach initially to achieve her goals, even at the cost of her family's dignity. However, through the course of the show, the audience grows to appreciate her shrewdness and sensibility, which equips her to handle the obstacles thrown at her and her family much better than her impulsive and often foolish older sisters.
Tumblr media
As a viewer, I found In-Hye and In Joo's characters to be nauseating and I think its because I'm used to watching k-drama protagonists that are relentless do-gooders with their only flaw perhaps being that they are too hard on them. In-Hye and In Joo's relentless pursuit of wealth is a reflection of the world that we live in- one in which we've normalized, money is essential for survival. To have no money is to suffer a kind of death. For In Joo and In Hye , this is a reality as they both have the shared memory of losing their infant sister because their family was too poor to get their sister in the hospital in time. While In Joo was old enough to remember this, In-Hye, who wasn't even born yet has these memories implanted into her by their mother, who told her the story as a child. The lives of all three sisters begins to drastically change when it starts to intersect with the politically powerful Won family, once helmed by the powerful patriarch, Won Ki Seon, which now consists of his son-in-law (also mayoral candidate and lawyer) Park Jae Sang, his daughter Won-Sang Ah, and his teenage granddaughter, Park Hyorin.
In-kyung ends up at logger-heads with Park Jae Sang, when she attempts to his expose his corruption as a lawyer on the Bobae Savings Bank case, where the bankruptcy of the bank that wrecked the lives of innocent people and embezzlement of 140 billion won that is transferred to one of the Won's family companies is cleverly covered up by the apparent suicides of 4 of the bank presidents. Park Jae Sang is a public favorite for the Seoul mayor position because of his altruistic work and his own rags to riches story of being the son of a former chauffeur. Her attempts to expose Park Jae Sang and hamper his political ambitions end up disastrously failing when he uses his influence to reveal In-kyung's alcoholism. She ends up being suspended from work for drinking on the job and is forced to work freelance. In-kyung, however, is still determined in her efforts to obtain justice for the victims of the bank scandal. When she reaches out to interview one of the nephews of the former bank presidents, she and her friend Ha Jong-ho are shocked to find him killed in a car accident and a mysterious blue orchid left at the scene of the accident.
In Joo is a lowly bookkeeper for Orchid E&C, a firm managed by the Won family. In Joo is an outcast at work due to her lack of education and social status. However, over the course of several years, she develops a close bond with Jin Hwa-young, a senior bookkeeper and secretary, who treats her like a younger sister. Before Hwa-young goes on a trip to Europe, she has the naive In Joo sign on a contract written in English, a language she doesn't know. At the office, In Joo ends up meeting Choi Do Il, one of Hwa-young's close colleagues, who asks if In Joo is aware of Hwayoung's whereabouts as she never returned to work after her Europe trip. A worried In Joo visits Hwa-young's home only to find her best friend hanging dead in her closet along with a suicide note and the same blue orchid that In-kyung encountered at the accident. A devastated In-Joo refuses to believe that her friend would unalive herself let alone embezzle 70 billion won from an illegal company slush fund before her death. To add to the layer of shock that she's already experiencing, In Joo finds that her friend left her 2 billion won in yoga studio locker. Seeing that much money for the first time in her life, In Joo is in tears, but also becomes more determined to team up with Choi Do-Il to uncover the mystery of the 70 billion won and absolve her friend.
Finally, In-Hye strikes a friendship with Park Hyo-rin. Her talent is noticed by Park Jae Sang and Won Sang ah and they commission her to paint a portrait of Hyo-rin. The two girls bond over their relatively quite dispositions and In-hye is in awe of the family's affluence. In-Hye also becomes the newest scholarship recipient of the Park Jae Sang family and her close relationship with Hyo-rin results in her becoming increasingly more aware of the dark truths that are carefully concealed behind the family's picture perfect demeanor.
Little Women has an incredibly detailed plot with many twists and turns that leaves the audience constantly guessing. The plot is balanced well with the dynamics between the characters. However, what truly allows is Little Women to shine is that it doesn't shy away from being audacious. A show of this nature runs the risk of being branded as a makjang and instead of fearing such a definition, Little Women wholly embraces the idea of making crazy and risky decisions with how the plot progresses. It's also a show that's not afraid to unravel the psyche of its very characteristics. The writers of this show are not afraid to engage in the blatant psychoanalysis of it's characters. As a viewer, I struggle with defining Little Women. Is it a psychological thriller? A heist drama? Or, perhaps a romance? Regardless, a well written and engaging story with an amazing ensemble cast makes this one of the defining k-dramas of the year.

Songs for Solo Leveling Ships Pt. 2
I was actually going to put these songs in the previous part, but it got too long-
Choibaek:
youtube
It's funny 'cause this song's actually in Japanese, not Korean-
"It's been a long time, without any news It's like our feelings are far apart Though I want to tell you, it won't come true anymore The distance between us, my wishes won't reach Still calling for you"
I imagine this song as a result of a particularly bad argument between them and that they're giving each other the silent treatment.
"Baby, I miss you so much now, no matter what anyone says, ayy Calling you up, I need you even now, say If our feelings are the same, yeah If that time was just a mistake, babe I want you to say that, truthfully Like an old novel This ending I don't think I can get over it"
Except one of them (could be either, but I imagine it's Choi Jong-In) starts missing the other and wants to see him again but at the same time, isn't sure if the other feels the same way yet.
"Left in tears Because there's nothing to hold on to Ring-a-ling I may be a nuisance, but Because there's only one thing I want you to tell me Getting no reply is also an answer, but I'll keep on waiting, even now I want you to come back"
And this is when Jong-In makes the decision to try to mend things between them, but Baek Yoon-Ho doesn't answer. So Jong-In is willing to wait until he gets a response, whether Yoon-Ho chooses to or not.
youtube
This song is a direct response to the previous one (don't mind me and my delusions too much-)
"And I can't deal without, I try to see the good in life But good things in life are hard to find"
I'm assuming this song from Yoon-Ho's perspective, mostly because of this line, which reminds me of all the times, Yoon-Ho's lost (or almost lost) people around him.
"Well, I'll try to do it right this time around Let's start over I'll try to do it right this time around It's not over"
I see these lyrics as an indirect apology from Yoon-Ho, saying that he wants to go back to how they were before and that things aren't over between them.
"My life with you means everything So I won't give up that easily
I'll blow it away, blow it away Can we make this something good? 'Cause it's all misunderstood"
Despite all their arguments and some misunderstandings, I see Yoon-Ho wanting their relationship to work out well, even if his emotions get the better of him sometimes
"This love is killing me, but you're the only one It's not over"
I just really like this line, but it also symbolizes how even though they fight, they truly do care for each other and want to stay together
Sorry, the Choibaek songs in this part are more sad than I intended
Heeseok:
youtube
"What would I do without your smart mouth? Drawing me in, and you kicking me out You've got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down What's going on in that beautiful mind? I'm on your magical mystery ride And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright"
This is basically what happened when Eun-Seok visited Park Hee-Jin for the first time after getting injured, though this is more of a recollection of that moment rather than the moment itself.
"Give your all to me I'll give my all to you You're my end and my beginning Even when I lose, I'm winning 'Cause I give you all of me And you give me all of you, oh-oh"
Just Eun-Seok being smitten with Hee-Jin after they get together and willing to do anything for her (including killing but Hee-Jin doesn't want him doing that for her)
Sungpark:
youtube
"In another life I would be your girl We'd keep all our promises Be us against the world In another life I would make you stay So I don't have to say you were The one that got away"
Another song that basically describes their entire relationship in the original timeline. Park Kyung-Hye would want Sung Il-Hwan to stay with her and their children, especially if she knew what would happen. Except they actually were able to be together "in another life" and were able to happily be together <3
Jinhae:
youtube
"Missed call from my mother Like, "Where you at tonight?" Got no alibi"
I'm sorry, but I just found this line really funny. Imagine Park Kyung-Hye wondering where Sung Jin-Woo is, and he can't think of an excuse
"I was all alone with the love of my life She's got glitter for skin My radiant beam in the night I don't need no light to see you
Shine It's your golden hour (oh) You slow down time In your golden hour (oh)"
Basically Jin-Woo's thoughts when he looks at Cha Hae-In, especially during that one date when he took her for a ride on Kaisel.
"For the love of my life She's got glow on her face A glorious look in her eyes My angel of light"
More of Jin-Woo's thoughts about Hae-In, but this one is more about him thinking about her rather than him currently looking at her
I was going to add another ship, but Choibaek's section got long-
(Feel free to request a ship though, even if I've already done them. I have a lot of songs in mind)

Decision To Leave
Tumblr media
Movies watched in 2023
Decision To Leave (2022, South Korea)
Director: Park Chan Wook
Writers: Chung Seo Kyung & Park Chan Wook
Mini-review:
Park Chan Wook is probably my favorite director, so you can imagine how excited I was about Decision To Leave, with it being his first movie in 6 years. And, of course, he doesn't disappoint. Sure, it's definitely not at the level of his best movies, but it's still a great film in pretty much every way. It may take its time when setting up the story and the characters, but it's never boring because the acting, the directing and the writing are masterful. Tang Wei and Park Hae Il give spectacular performances, and it's obvious that Park Chan Wook had a lot of fun making this movie. I admit the storyline was much more simple and straightforward than I expected, but maybe that's what allowed the director to experiment and play around with the cinematography, the editing and the structure of the scenes. All this results in a visually fascinating movie.
I seriously hope it doesn't take 6 more years for Park Chan Wook to release another movie.
