Wish I was falling in love with someone in a fado café in Lisbon somewhere. We'll exchange sweet nothings over restaurant ambience and background trivialities. I'll tell them their smile could relight the entire damn city if darkness would fall upon it. Bring them to corners of town where you can't avoid letting in love + the full range of life's colors and goodness ((I do know so damn many in Lisbon :-) )) there's so much life to be lived like that, and I want to make someone worthy enough part of all that so bad

CHRIS WILL BE JUST FINE…
A portion of Chris’ fandom is really mad at him for accepting to be part of a shitshow with such a problematic girl. And rightfully so. But it’s important to keep something in perspective: Chris is going to be just fine.
Stars have gotten away with much worse
I saw this article this morning about celebrities being involved in big scandals. https://www.buzzfeed.com/hannahmarder/wild-forgotten-celeb-controversies
There are many more that didn’t make the list and definitely could have. Even recently, Greta Gerwig’s partner left the mother of his unborn child to be with her. It’s awards season so of course, it has been buried. Same situation with Claire Danes’ sordid affair with Billy Crudup a long time ago.
So many of these Hollywood folks are problematic and have gotten away with it and continue to get away with it.
Their behavior range from the problematic to the horrific and criminal.
Casey Affleck allegedly assaulted a woman sexually and settled his case out of court. He won an Oscar for Manchester by the sea anyway. If people are curious, look at how Brie Larson handed his awards. She knew!
According to Rose McGowan, his brother Ben Affleck would have told her after she had confessed to him that Weinstein (let's not even discuss him) raped her: “I told him to stop doing that”.
Allegedly a former girlfriend of Fassbender pressed charges against him after he violently assaulted her. And I could go on and on.
Many have done much worse than being in a PR relationship with someone problematic and have gotten away with it. So in the grand scheme of things, Chris will be just fine. His “relationship” with Abba will be buried and soon it will be a forgotten memory, only remembered by a small portion of his fandom.
Chris’ darker side
Chris’ history is rather tame compared to all those super problematic people and or criminals that are still on the loose.
But yes, he has made mistakes in the past like everyone else and he has done his fair share of problematic stuff as well. In his younger days, there were rumors of fights and being thrown out of bars. There has been rumors of drug use. There was that messy affair with a married costar during the shooting of Gifted. Also let’s not forget the more recent papwalk in London with Lily James during Covid Lockdown to clean her sniffing cocaine in the park. The pairing of Captain America and Cinderella was a good idea on paper but the execution was atrocious and tactless. It was already a sign of his team’s gross incompetence and miscalculation. There was also the leak of the screenshot of his phone. The d..k pic was all people talked about but some of the other pictures were even more problematic, not as embarrassing of course but more problematic.
Also Chris’ friends and family and Chris himself have trolled his fandom for years. A day before he left for Portugal at the beginning of this shitshow, he tweeted a pic of himself and wrote something like: “I love my fans and Dodger loves you too”. He then hopped on a plane and purposefully filmed a video for that teacher from his hotel room in Lisbon so that his fans (plants?) could place him there. And surprise surprise, there was some backlash on certain platforms and just afterwards he or his team tweeted a picture of him with a bald kid with cancer. It was actually the low point for me. Much worse than anything he did with Abba. I think the picture was 2 years old and I know celebrities use charities to make themselves look good all the time. But using the pic of a sick child for damaged control was as low as you can get. I am not sure he promoted Christopher’s Haven ever since.
And of course, there are still the ongoing shenanigans with the Nazi sympathizing yacht girl…
But like Chris said in an interview the past year, the industry makes you do things you don’t want to do. Hollywood is indeed a snake pit where they sometimes force you to compromise yourself and play certain games if you want to be successful. That is part of the price to pay.
He needed a change in his PR image
Chris was at a good place in his career after Endgame. Knives Out was a huge hit and Defending Jacob got good reviews. He seemed to have diversified but Covid happened and derailed a lot of stuff. Little shop of Horrors was canceled. He didn’t have Marvel to fall back on and he seemed to be at a crossroads career wise and PR-wise. He couldn’t remain the perfect internet boyfriend and play Prince charming waiting for the one forever. He had to evolve into more adults parts as well: husbands, fathers etc.
This is probably why his team came up with this PR relationship and those kinda of weddings. Again it was a good idea on paper because it enabled them to change his image in a natural and organic way. But the execution was again as disastrous as it gets. Abba was not a good fit for him and she was not a good choice especially if they wanted to rebrand him as a family man.
The question remains whether she is the only one who agreed to this charade. Indeed the contract’s terms seem rather drastic. She has never been able to even post anything about him (just his dog) or about marrying him. She has mostly hid for the past years and just popped up for PR events or reasons. And given the GQ event, it's likely she is not even allowed to speak in public. Remember the articles saying she was rude and refused to talk to the media. Who would agree to this kind of contract but a desperate clout chaser with little prospect?
An artist’s career is full of ups and downs. Hopefully, once this is over, Chris will get opportunities to expand on his body of work with more diverse roles. I think Pain Hustlers was supposed to do that for him but even if he was rather good in it, the movie wasn’t. I do think he has the acting chops to do it. Whether or not he will get such opportunities is another question… I am not sure this shitshow would have helped him at all in that regard but time will tell.

Today I travelled 23 km from Lisbon to Alpriate. Although I never got lost, I did my share of zig zagging. According to Google I actually walked 28 km.  I basically got to the outskirts of Lisbon. The route was flat and easy to walk.
Tumblr media
Last night I stayed at Pensao Estacao Central in Bairro Alto district of Lisbon. Not impressive on the outside but it had clean and modern rooms. The beds were a bit hard for me. Good value, good location. The Lisbon Bar nearby has good Sangria. I kissed my wife goodbye and off I went.
Tumblr media
To my surprise the Caminho starts at Igreja de Santiago (Church of Santiago) and not at the Lisbon Cathedral, where I picked up my Credential.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leaving Lisbon was unspectactacular walking on pavement through industrial areas and along parking lots. There were very few Caminho signs so I had to rely on the Buen Camino app to make regular course corrections (explaining the extra 5 km walked). The streets in Lisbon run in all directions, with plenty of forks in the road, so it’s easy to get off the Caminho (l met 3 people that ended up on the highway and walked hours more than planned). The last 10 km are mostly a dirt trail, along a river at times. It’s wide open so I appreciated having lots of water with me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The are fewer pilgrims than on the Camino Frances. I walked over an hour before seeing any pilgrims, Jacqueline and Abbe from Portland. I passed just 7 people all day. I walked a short time with llario & Alessandra, Italians living in Cap Verde. We jumped between English, Spanish, French, and Italian trying to understand each other. Good fun and a few laughs as we understood and misunderstood each other. “Bom Caminho” has replaced “Buen Camino” as the pilgrim greeting in Portugal.
Tumblr media
There are also fewer beds. In Alpriate there is one Albergue with 10 beds. Some rooms are held back each day for pilgrims. They come available at 14:00. Today the Camino delivered and I got the last bed in Alpriate. I am perfectly happy with my paper sheet and no pillow. It could have been worse. The next stop is almost 10 km.

Day 69 Shopping & Pintxo
Rose and I started the day trying to find the Saturday craft markets that I had googled on the train from Madrid, but they weren't at the location. I tried to re-google but nothing helpful appeared. We had a short stop at one of the fresh food markets to check out the seafood and then decided to head for morning tea. We passed a lovely patisserie/cafe with seats facing a park and after comparing with our original destination circled back to this place. We then shopped (there are so many gorgeous boutiques around every corner) on our way back to Old Town Coffee.
The first pintxos place that Rose chose from the long list that our Airbnb host gave us was sadly closed, Bar Sport. We then headed to a second option, Gandarias, and had the experience of the crowds, standing and eating and enjoying the five options Rose entrusted me to organise.
We continued with our shopping, thinking we might try another place on the list later in the day. Rose had been commenting that the temperature was a bit cool, however I was appreciating this given earlier temperatures in Madrid and Lisbon and knowing what's to come in Morocco, until it started to rain and put a dampener on the joy of shopping.
We returned to the apartment for some more day drinking and observed the rain and the wind worsen. Neither of us was keen to go back out for dinner, however I was keen to get some exercise.
I headed out for an hour around 7.15pm not sure of the plan until I pinned a lookout that had interested me yesterday. I ended up in Urgull Park and checked the closing time with some other walkers, as I noticed bolts on the gates. I intended to go to the top, I think to Jesusen Bihotz Sakratua, but that gate had all sorts of scratchings to do with closing times related to seasons and with potentially only 10 minutes to go I was not keen on being trapped in a dark park in the cold and wet overnight!

Coastal Escapades: A Bangladeshi Traveler’s Delight in Portugal and Spain
Tumblr media
Embarking on a coastal journey through Portugal and Spain is a dream for many travelers, and my recent adventure to these sun-soaked destinations was nothing short of magical. As a travel enthusiast from Bangladesh, navigating the rich histories, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cultures of Lisbon, the Algarve, Barcelona, and Costa del Sol was an experience I’ll cherish forever. Here’s a recount of my travels, highlighting the key experiences and the travel agencies that made it all possible.
The Allure of Lisbon
Lisbon was my first stop, and it immediately captivated me with its unique charm. The city’s historic neighborhoods, like Alfama, with their narrow alleys and ancient houses, made me feel like I had stepped back in time. The soulful Fado music echoing through the streets added a deeply cultural touch to my explorations. Notable landmarks such as the Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower showcased Lisbon’s rich maritime history and architectural beauty.
But Lisbon isn’t just about the past. The modern side of the city is equally enticing, with vibrant nightlife in Bairro Alto and stunning viewpoints like Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, offering panoramic vistas of the cityscape.
Sunny Splendor in the Algarve
After soaking in the historical vibes of Lisbon, I headed to the Algarve, Portugal’s southern gem known for its breathtaking coastline. The Algarve’s beaches are legendary. Praia da Marinha stood out with its clear blue waters and majestic cliffs. Exploring the Benagil Cave by boat was an unforgettable highlight, revealing a hidden beach within a cavern lit by a natural skylight.
The Algarve’s towns, like Lagos, offered a mix of lively culture and tranquil retreats. The cobblestone streets and vibrant markets provided a perfect backdrop for leisurely strolls and local shopping.
Barcelona: Gaudí’s Playground
Crossing into Spain, Barcelona greeted me with its vibrant energy and artistic heritage. Antoni Gaudí’s architectural wonders, such as the awe-inspiring Sagrada Familia and the whimsical Park Güell, were a feast for the eyes. The city’s streets, especially La Rambla, buzzed with life, from street performers to bustling markets.
Barcelona’s beaches, like Barceloneta, offered a delightful contrast to the city’s cultural sites, providing a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the Mediterranean sun. The city’s culinary scene, with tapas bars and seafood restaurants, was another highlight, making every meal an adventure in itself.
Relaxing in Costa del Sol
My final destination was the Costa del Sol, a region famous for its endless sunshine and beautiful beaches. Marbella’s luxurious resorts and vibrant nightlife offered a taste of the high life, while Málaga’s rich history, including the Alcazaba and the Picasso Museum, provided cultural depth.
One of the most charming experiences was visiting the village of Mijas, perched on a hillside with stunning views of the coast. The white-washed buildings and narrow streets were picture-perfect, offering a serene retreat from the more crowded tourist spots.

Week 2: Best Week Ever
Welcome Welcome Welcome back!
This week was intense. Educationally, emotionally, physically, and drinking-ly (drinking-wise?). The theme for the program this week was marketing and prototyping and let me tell you something: it can be very difficult to create a prototype of a product when you have very little money, resources, and expertise. And I suppose that is the point -- start-ups do not have a lot of money or resources so it is essential to be as efficient as possible with the resources you do have. At least I'm pretty sure that's what the point is: otherwise we're just spending money. However, I digress. Let's get into this week.
This week, in addition to prototyping your product, the team was also tasked with formulating a marketing strategy. So we decided our best bet was social media: everyone is on it all of the time and our target audience is college students and young adults. That being said, please follow @theloungepopup on Instagram! The bio has a link to our website so please check out if you're interested!
Tumblr media
We also continued experimenting with mocktails this week and we had a breakthrough! Our favorite recipe so far according to our team and everyone who has tested it: the gorgeous mocktail "Mama Knows Best". It's amazing what some college students can create with orange juice, orange syrup, sprite, mint, pomegranate juice, and black currant syrup. Behold:
Tumblr media
We debuted this drink at the business expo on Friday where all the teams had the chance to walk around and see other teams projects and practice pitching their start-ups to friends and staff members at EIA! Our team had a great day and everyone loved our mocktail. So it was amazing week for business but it doesn't come close to the fun we had outside of business this week.
This weekend we spent exactly 24 hours in the city of Lisbon, Portugal which is about a 3 hour bus ride from Porto. Lisbon was a massive city and had a very different energy from Porto. We arrived at 10:30 pm Friday night and proceeded to head out to Bairro Alto: a half-mile square block of streets filled with bars and nightclubs and is well-known as Lisbon's nightlife district. Unfortunately I didn't take a lot of pictures in Bairro Alto, only lots of drunken videos that are over a minute long so I want to spare everyone reading here but trust me it was one of the best nights out I've ever had.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we spent the rest of Saturday in the beautiful town of Sintra which is about a 40-minute train ride from Lisbon. We really enjoyed the gorgeous little town and then explored the castles that Sintra is famous for!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, we arrive at my favorite part of the Porto trip so far. On Sunday, my friends and traveled with a tour guide to Peneda-Geres National Park. I cannot say enough how this tour was one of the best experiences of my life and I've never seen or done anything quite like it. We hiked and then swam in the azure blue and green lagoons of the park before having the most delicious traditional Portuguese lunch at restaurant with scenic views of the mountains. I could talk for hours about how amazing this place was but instead I think I'll just drop a bunch of pictures and let them speak for themselves. That's all of the updates I have for this week so if you actually read this far, I appreciate you and hope you're doing well. Hopefully these pictures are motivation enough to make you want to visit Porto and Portugal! See ya next week!

Transport
Rent a car or hire a local guide to fully explore the city. Taxis are also available, but agree on a price before starting your journey.

Day 26 - to Fafião
A rain day and a slow start on my part. I finished a book of short stories, the Weird Tales of William Hope Hodgson, an American who was prolific in the horror genre from the early 1900s. I read quite a bit of this sort of thing, it is in the British Library Tales of the Weird Series, and he is very good, an imagination that at times must have worried even him, and the ability to get it down on paper. A review tomorrow.
I emerged from the van just after 10, in steady rain, but I couldn’t leave it much longer, as I wanted to move on today. Having seen hardly anyone for four days, by chance a British couple from Berwick on Tweed were passing, Lee and Emma, and their dog. They told me they had a similar self-built van parked down the road. I saw the exterior at least later, it is a sprinter in an attractive light green with a black bonnet. We walked together for a half hour or so, but they had full waterproofs on and we’re heading up to the mountain, the route I took on my first day here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was running low on supplies, so filled up at the small supermarket in Geres. I don’t think I’ll come across anything with that sort of stock for a week.
Then I headed to Fafião, and found a park up at the football field just out of town. It’s fine while the rain is here, and besides, I need a decent 4G signal for the rugby tomorrow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later in the afternoon, as the rain still hadn’t abated, we walked into the town. It’s a traditional Portuguese cobbled community, but clearly popular in the tourist season, with a fair bit of accommodation, and a few bars and restaurants, two of which were open. The first one I tried had a very wet outdoor sitting area and wasn’t suitable. The second, Fojo de Lobos, or ‘The Pack of Wolves’, had a covered outdoor area, and more, some decent craft beer. I got chatting to the barman, he was a keen sportsman, and setting out as a trail runner. I did my usual, trying to pass the message around Portugal that they have qualified for the Rugby World Cup, but it wasn’t long, and we lapsed onto Sporting Lisbon’s defeat of Arsenal last night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a Friday without Rugby, Union at least, as there is League. The rain continues, so I’ll settle to watch that.
