Here For You || Huntbastian
It had been a while since Rob had texted him at Jay’s. Hunter had come back home to the penthouse, sadly leaving Jay, and making a couple of stops on his way home for Sebastian. He knew there was still one piece of the cheesecake Seb had requested earlier in the week, but Hunter stopped and got a bottle of Seb’s favorite scotch and then a pack of his favorite French cigarettes. Hunter hated it when Seb smoked, but he knew it was a comfort gesture so he mostly turned a blind eye, the way Seb did about his pill use.
Hunter kept texting Jay, in case Seb showed up there- which didn’t seem completely impossible, and was about to text Rob again, to find out if he’d heard from Sebastian when he heard a key in the door. He got up and poured two scotches, meeting Seb in the front hall. He handed him a glass. “It’s the good stuff.”

Changing Rooms and Boots
@ranchhand-clarington
Even though Sebastian was in desperate need of less fancy clothes, and a pair of boots and gloves of his own, it was the end of the week before he and Hunter had a chance to go into town and shopping. After the first day, Sebastian had been progressively more and more exhausted at the end of each day and Friday was no different. Still, once they had finished lunch, Sebastian pulled Hunter aside and asked about the shopping, offering to buy the other dinner in town while they were out.
As Hunter dismissed the other men for the evening and everyone started making their way home, Sebastian leaned back against the fence, yawning slightly. His body was not only exhausted, but sore. The injuries he’d suffered in the car accident before leaving Paris were being constantly aggravated with the work on the ranch but Sebastian was determined not to let Clarington hear him bellyache about it. He didn’t want to have to explain all of that to the other man. “I don’t think I’ve been this tired, and slept this much since I was an infant,” he offered in Hunter’s direction.

Tell Me All Your Secrets || Huntbastian
Who: Hunter and Sebastian
Where: Smythe house library/music room
When: Evening of Monday, December 7
What: Hunter gathers his courage to talk to his friend about what has been going on with him.
Warnings: Mention of possible alcohol abuse, alcoholics, and possible depression.
Sebastian: grabbed a bottle of wine from the kitchen and made his way to the library/music room. He dimmed the lights, and put some light instrumental Christmas music on before he sat down at the window seat and waited for Hunter.
Hunter left his phone in the bed, slowly getting up and out of the room. It wasn't that he was sure how much of this he was ready to tell Sebastian, but he was willing to give it a shot. He had a feeling the other wouldn't mind too much if he suddenly backed out. Soon, he entered the library/music room and joined Sebastian by the window. "Hi..."
Sebastian: "Hey," Sebastian said softly, passing the bottle of wine to Hunter. "Thought you might want the first drink." He pulled one leg up and tucked it under his body, dangling the other over the edge. He looked out the window. "It looks like it might snow soon," he said casually.
Hunter: It wasn't that Hunter thought of it as an incredibly good idea, but he figured he might need to if he was going to get through with any of this, so he quickly got the bottle opened and chunked a great deal down before even saying anything else. After a moment, he proceeded to pass the bottle back to Sebastian. "Snow would be good," he mumbled, voice trailing off at the end.
Sebastian: watched as Hunter downed a good portion of the bottle of wine. He took the bottle back and took a swig of his own. "We should go get a tree," he mused. "Get this place feeling all warm and Christmasy. I invited Marley to help trim the tree, if you don't mind. She said she'd bring Christmas cookies." Sebastian knew he was rambling but he couldn't help it. He just hoped if he kept rambling Hunter might jump in at some point.
Hunter: kept his eyes focused on his hands. They were nervously drumming against his knee and it wouldn't surprise him if Sebastian could feel how nervous he was about this. Even if he didn't look up, he still managed to give the other a nod. "That would be cool, yeah. Marley is cool."
Sebastian: "I told her I didn't think you'd have a problem with it, but you know, she doesn't want to be a third wheel or something." He smiled at Hunter even though the other wasn't looking at him, and reached out, covering one hand that was drumming against his knee. He bent his head, trying to get his face down into Hunter's line of sight. "It's just me Hunter."
Hunter: "It's no problem," he whispered, biting his lip down once again as Sebastian's hand touched his. Maybe he was overreacting, but it was a sensitive subject to him. "We won't third wheel her." Sebastian moving closer and trying to catch his eyes only got him to reach out for the bottle once more, taking another big sip, this time not letting go of the bottle. "I've never really talked about it with anyone but my mother, so I'm sorry for making this a bigger deal than it probably is."
Sebastian: "No...no," Sebastian chided gently. "I'm sorry if I made you feel like this wasn't a big deal. Obviously it's a big deal to you and that means it's a big deal to me too. I just mean that no matter what, there is nothing you could ever tell me that would..." he breathed out a breath, "...nothing is going to change what I think about you."
Hunter: With another sip of the wine down, Hunter finally got himself together and faced his friend. "No, it's... really not a big deal. I don't know." He sighed and tried to smile at the other for a brief second. "What is it exactly that you think about me?" He asked, trying to make time pass for a little longer before actually opening up about it.
Sebastian: smiled at his friend, cheeks flushing a little red. "Well, first and foremost, you're my best friend. One of the greatest guys I know." He pulled the bottle from Hunter's grasp, taking a larger drink than before. "You're good looking, and funny. Generous to those you deem worthy." Sebastian swallowed thickly. "And you're a really good kisser and make me feel... you make me feel a lot of things honestly."
Hunter: nodded once again, not really sure how to react at this point. If he had to be honest, he agreed with all Sebastian just said. The other way around, of course. But it was nice to know that the feelings or whatever this was, was being returned. "Have I..." Hunter's voice trailed off as he considered if this was really the right way to start the conversation. "Uh, have I ever told you about my father?"
Sebastian: sucked in a breath. If this had something to do with Hunter's father, then yes, it was a big deal. It wasn't something Hunter talked about at all. "Not much. Just that he's not in the picture and that it's better that way." He squeezed Hunter's hand gently.
Hunter: "Oh," Hunter sighed. Not that he was surprised, but things would have been easier if Sebastian had known. "Well, my father..." Figuring that it would be safer for him to do so now, he grabbed the bottle and drank a great deal of what was left. "My father had a little, uh, problem. With alcohol."
Sebastian: "Oh," Sebastian breathed. He studied the other man in front of him. Wasn't that usually something that followed along in families. Maybe they shouldn't be drinking so much. He eyed he bottle but said nothing. "Did he ever get help for it, or was he one of those guys who actually thought he didn't have a problem?"
Hunter: felt the need to avoid eye contact again so he looked back down on their hands, squeezing Sebastian's tightly. "He was one of those guys..." he sighed, gently putting the bottle down. "But, I mean, it wasn't like he was a terrible father. I don't know. Maybe he was. It's not like I've had anyone else." His finger tapped against the bottle and he had to bite down his lip again. "He's the reason my mother decided to spend all our remaining money to send me off to Dalton, I think."
Sebastian: shuffled a little closer to Hunter. He didn't let go of Hunter's hand, but he put his other arm on Hunter's shoulder. "Well, it's a good thing she did. I don't know how else we would crossed paths without Dalton. And that... would be the worst." Perhaps he was making light of it, but Sebastian meant what he was saying. He couldn't even imagine his life without Hunter as his best friend. The only thing that made Dalton and Ohio any bit bearable on a daily basis had been Hunter's friendship.
Hunter: let himself fall into Sebastian's side, trying to get himself together. At least he was talking about it, right? He was thankful of Sebastian. If he hadn't been able to squeeze the other's hand, he wasn't sure he would have gotten through with this. "Yeah, it's..." he didn't entirely know what do say, but he wanted to let Sebastian know how much this meant to him. "I'm happy, I got to meet you."
Sebastian: As Hunter fell against him, Sebastian let himself move a little closer, rubbing at the other man's back. It was a little surreal, seeing Hunter like this. There was a reason Sebastian often saw him as a Lion. Loyal, fierce, a leader, and regal. Getting to see this softer, vulnerable side of Hunter did nothing to diminish those feelings either. If anything, Sebastian saw just how strong Hunter was, had been, all these years. "I've got you," he whispered softly.
Hunter: Feeling like this wasn't something Hunter liked. Not even a little bit, not even at all. Not even if Sebastian made him feel a little more okay with everything. He hated feeling weak. "I'm just... scared," he admitted after a moment of silence, finally looking up at his green-eyes friend. "Because honestly, it feels as if I'm already a good way down the road of ending up like that."
Sebastian: "Of ending up like him?" Sebastian asked softly. "You couldn't. The fact that you even realize you might be, has to mean that you're not going to end up like him." The taller man leaned his head against Hunter's. "Is there anything I can do? Maybe... I mean, we've kind of been drinking a lot since you got here. Every day a little bit of something... that might not be for the best."
Hunter: "Well, yeah," Hunter admitted, nodding slowly. It had always worried him - and his mother as well. She had been afraid he would end up like his father, but he had tried to brush it off as it was nothing, hoping he would be able to manage it himself. "That's the thing, you know. It's not just a little bit a few days while I've been here, but more like... a medium amount every day for a while now."
Sebastian: nodded. "So... us loosing touch, it's been because what? You've been busy drinking? You didn't want me to know you were drinking?" Something clenched at the green-eyed man's heart and not in a good way. "What is a medium amount Hunter? And how is that affecting school?" He tried to keep the worry, and any judgement from his voice but he would be lying if he said he wasn't concerned. "Is there... is there something that triggered this? That set off this set of events?"
Hunter: "It's not exactly something to be proud of, Sebastian." He managed to keep his voice low, not wanting to carry this conversation on anymore though he was quite certain Sebastian wouldn't let him walk away from it now. "I don't know, Sebastian. Not enough to send me to the hospital. And it's been less since I got here," he mumbled. "Well, I know that it all started with the parties. Like... a lot of parties. It seemed more interesting than spending my life on something I really didn't want to."
Sebastian: "I.. okay, yeah. I just," Sebastian stopped rubbing Hunter's back, using the hand to run through his hair. The other hand still had a firm grip on Hunter's and he gave it a squeeze again. "I guess I'm just sad that at some point you got the idea you couldn't come to me, couldn't talk to me about this before now." The green eyed man shook his head. "I'm not exactly going to do the right thing here. I never do. I guess that's something; that it hasn't been enough to send you to the hospital. And that it's been less since you got here." Sebastian tried to pull Hunter closer, as if he could just shield him somehow from everything. "Now what? You've got what, a semester left on a degree that you don't really want?" He hated the fear he could hear in his own voice, and he bit back a dozen more questions he wanted answers to. Namely, how the hell was Sebastian supposed to be with Hunter, getting increasingly closer and closer to him, developing feelings he never thought he'd ever have for anyone else ever again, and then let the guy go back to Minnesota alone? How many nights would Sebastian stay awake worrying about his friend thousands of miles away? How long before Hunter stopped returning calls, and texts, and emails again. The green eyed man could feel tears pricking at his eyes and he squeezed them shut, willing them not to fall at all.
Hunter: wasn't really sure how he was supposed to do now, so he just let his head rest against Sebastian's chest to listen to his heart beat. It was oddly calming and Hunter needed that right now. At least he had gotten it out, right? That was a big-ass step. But what would happen once Christmas time was over and Sebastian wasn't there anymore? He would go back to Minnesota, back to the people he was used to seeing, possibly back into how things used to be. And then what? Would they loose what they had going on? Would he stop returning the phone calls and text messages once again? The scariest part was that he didn't have any idea. "I don't want to go back," he whispered after what felt like a few minutes. "I know that I have to and that I'm going to. It's just... I don't know how to do it."
Sebastian: let go of Hunter's hand and just used both arms to wrap around his friend. He hugged him as hard as he dared, a close as he could. "I wish I could tell you not to," Sebastian whispered back honestly. "I wish I could tell you to stay here, or go to New York with Marley, or just go home to your mom. I wish I ask you to come to Boston with me." He choked back a laugh that threatened to turn into a sob. "You're going to go back, because you know you have to. It's... there's not long left Hunt. But you're going to do it the same way we always do; we'll figure it out. We'll figure it out together, and I'm not going to let you feel like you're alone." Sebastian took a deep breath. "I'm going to say something and I need you not to freak out, okay. Just let me get through it first and then freak out on me if you have to." He paused for a moment, his voice dropping to barely a whisper. "I love you. Not like I'm in love with you, but who the hell knows at this point. But yeah, I do. You're hands down the most important person in the world to me that I'm not blood related to. You are my family. And if you ever, ever, need anything, I want you to know you can come to me. You can call me at 4 in the morning, you can text me in the middle of the night, you can show up at my door unannounced, and it's always going to be okay." The taller man paused for a moment. "We have a couple of weeks, almost a month before you go back. Let's just enjoy it, and each other, and we'll figure out what you'll do when you go back. And then we'll focus on the rest after that."
Hunter: As much as Hunter enjoyed having Sebastian's hand to hold, it was nice having a pair of arms around him. It made him feel a little bit safer and he was happy that Sebastian was even trying to be there for him. They weren't very used to having those heartfelt moments, but they managed. If he should say so himself, that is. "It's gonna be a long semester," he breathed out and soon let his arms relax on his knees. He appreciated being here with Sebastian, talking this through and he was lucky to have such a great friend that was willing to be here for him right now. "I love you too," he whispered back after a while. There was no use in holding back that. Sebastian was the second most important person in his life, right after his mother and it was important for him to let the other know, even if it was words he had never expected to say out loud. "I'm sure we'll figure it out. I'll figure it out. Thank you, Sebastian."
Sebastian: nodded in agreement. There was no doubt in his mind that it would be long. "But then it's done and over." The green eyed man sighed softly. "Then we'll figure out something new for you. Something you're going to love." Sebastian sat there for a while, just holding Hunter, waiting to feel him tense up, or push away, wanting to leave, but he didn't. He turned his head and looked out the window. It was snowing. Big, fluffy, white flakes tumbled from the darkened sky. He was about to say something when he heard Hunter's whispered words. "We'll figure it out," he parroted back with a grin. I meant what I said Clarington, you are not alone. I might never have known him, but I'm not going to let you turn into him." Sebastian let go of Hunter, and got up, turning the lights down even more before he returned to the seat, leaning back against the side, and bringing one leg up and stretching it out along the window. He reached for Hunter again, trying to settle him against his chest. "It's snowing. Look how beautiful everything looks. Fresh. New."
Hunter: They didn't really need words. It wasn't an awkward silence, just nice and relaxing. Not talking about it made Hunter feel a little more chill about this whole thing. Sebastian had made him feel almost alright. He didn't know how or why, but he felt as if he could manage. They could do this. A short nod seemed to be enough of a reply to what Sebastian said and once the other had left the window, Hunter moved so he could look out a little. Snow reminded him a little bit about home and it got a small smile on his face. With Sebastian back, Hunter proceeded to lean against the taller male's chest, just looking out the window. "We should go out there at some point," he whispered, reaching out for the other's hand. "Is there anyway I can even thank you for being here for me?"
Sebastian: Once Hunter leaned into him again, Sebastian's arms instinctively went around the other man. If you'd told him that a few months ago, he would have laughed in your face. But somehow, this thing with Hunter was so easy that he didn't even need to think about what he needed to do. "We will," Sebastian said quietly. "Tomorrow, we'll go get a tree, build a snowman, take a walk, whatever you want." He twinned his fingers of one hand with Hunter's, the other arm still holding him close. Sebastian pressed a kiss against his head. "Let's find you something that makes you happy. That's all the thanks I need, is for you to be happy." He yawned slightly; the drain of their conversation beginning to show. Coupled with the darkness of the room, the quietness, and the warmth of Hunter's body against his, Sebastian began to feel tired. But he wasn't ready to let go of Hunter just yet.
Hunter: wasn't sure what had made the difference, but he knew that he didn't mind them growing closer at all. This moment could last for as long as it wanted to and Hunter wouldn't mind one bit. "Sounds nice," his voice ended up a little like a yawn, but who cared at this point? They were both tired and Hunter could feel it. Maybe going to bed wouldn't be such a bad idea, but it meant letting go of this and he wasn't sure he wanted to.
Sebastian: "Are you tired?" Sebastian squeezed Hunter's hand gently. "Maybe you should go to bed, get some sleep." But he didn't make any movement to get up, or let Hunter get up. "Maybe I could... come with you. Just sleep; like the night Marley stayed over. If you want." Sebastian was glad they were whispering, as it covered the wobble in his voice, the uncertainty he felt. This was something new for him, feeling as if he didn't know what someone wanted from him. "Or we can stay here a little longer."
Hunter: nodded gently and squeezed Sebastian's hand back, but he didn't make much effort to move either. This was nice and comfortable, and maybe he just didn't want Sebastian gone. When the other suggested they could sleep together, Hunter nodded once again. It wasn't that he minded being here, but saying no to spending the night cuddled up to his green-eyed friend wasn't something he was planning on saying no to. "Just sleep would be nice," he admitted. "Very nice."
Sebastian: "I promise you I'm not trying to get into your pants Hunt," he teased softly with a wink. "Why don't you go on ahead? I'll go make sure everything is locked up for the night and change into some sweats." The green eyed man loosened his hold on his friend. It was getting increasingly difficult to refer to Hunter just as that though, with how close they were getting. But it was true, what he'd said to Marley, putting any kind of label on them was a lot of pressure. And the last thing Sebastian wanted to do was put any pressure on Hunter. In fact, Sebastian was more determined than ever now, to make sure the other man had the best possible holiday now.
Hunter: After having jumped down from the window, Hunter turned to peck Sebastian's cheek - sort of like a thank you. "That sounds good to me," his voice was a bit stronger and much less of a whisper at this point. Things had calmed down a bit and it wasn't too horrible to speak up. After a few seconds, he turned around to walk back towards his room. "See you there."

Movie night || Kurt, Sebastian & Hunter
Kurt was exhausted from the drive to Boston. He had made two breaks so he could relax a little and move his feet for a second, but it had still been a long drive. Especially with no one to talk to in the car. He had listened to the radio and sang along with songs he knew, but even that had been boring alone. But that was okay. Now he was there and he wouldn’t be alone for some hours. He got his bag out of the back of his car and went up to the door of Sebastians’ and Hunters’ apartment. He took a deep breath before he knocked.
Kurt was happy that he had friends like Hunter and Sebastian. In New York he was the only guy that stayed home. All the other partners were girls and even if he liked them all, sometimes he just needed another guy to talk about the problems they had. And Sebastian had always been there for him, no matter how silly or small his problem had been. So he was happy to see Hunter and Sebastian again. It had been some time since they last saw each other. When the door got opened, Kurt prepared himself for a hug.

Navigating a New Normal
@sebastianmartinsmythe
Friday had been a really long day and as the evening wound down, Hunter got up from the couch where he’d been dozing off and on for the better part of the day. He put a hand on Sebastian’s shoulder and gave it a squeeze. “I’m going to bed. You coming?” he asked. He froze for a second, as he realized what he’d said, and remembered that Sebastian had broken up with him. But then the tension drained from his body. He refused to contribute more to this being awkward. “Come talk to me at least.” Hunter rolled his eyes. “I know you love it; it’s your favorite thing,” he teased.
