Naatu Naatu–Not My Oscar Win
Much before Naatu Naatu won the Oscars for Best Song, Screen Junkies made an honest trailer for RRR. It was the first time I’d seen an Indian film—a non-Bollywood, South-Indian film at that—take up western media attention, at least on YouTube. It was a fun trailer for a fun movie; it would not be a stretch to say I enjoyed it. Then, Naatu Naatu was nominated for an Oscar. The director of the film, S.S.Rajamouli, went on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and very gently corrected the very white host when he called the film Bollywood, because it is not. The Oscars happened, Naatu Naatu won, and India—the pan-India upper-caste crowd—rejoiced for taking the global stage, never mind that “pan-India” is a contentious term that flattens out the regional diversity present in India.
As of today, there are 269 fanfics on AO3 for RRR, of which 252 are written in English. To be sure, that is more than a lot of fandoms produce on AO3 for desi media. I would not personally categorize RRR as a desi film, but it’s not not desi either. It was representation on a global stage; for a moment, the desi identity, held up against that of the Western gaze, burned bright, and a lot of desis, both in India and the diaspora, felt seen and perceived.
In her introduction to the edited essay collection, Fandom, Now in Color, Rukmini Pande talks about the ways in which race becomes an issue in fandom and fan studies only in so much as we talk about racialized media:
“…the discipline of fan studies itself has constructed a default referent for that term [fandom]—mostly white fans located in the US and UK and organized around categories like transnational and global fandom and seen to be somewhat othered by language, geographical location, or media text—K-pop fans in Brazil or fans of Star Trek in Russia, for example (Madrid-Morales and Lovric 2015; Mikhaylova 2012).” PANDE, RUKMINI. “INTRODUCTION.” IN FANDOM, NOW IN COLOR, 1-13. IOWA CITY: UNIVERSITY OF IOWA PRESS, 2020.
RRR, as a film, was a story about two freedom fighters who fought against the British rule in India—two very real freedom fighters, whom the director has admitted the film is not historically accurate about. The optics of it stand out; that, at a moment where anti-racist work seems so imminent, the award went to a song from a movie about a colonial struggle, without truly dealing with the after-effects of such a struggle on most “third-world” countries.
I don’t honestly know what connections I am drawing with this. I’ve been using Pande’s work as a way to reframe my own complex feelings about RRR winning, given the accusations of casteism S.S.Rajamouli has faced across his career, the ways in which the pan-India films have often been repackaged Bollywood, and the internal politics of South-Indian (here, specifically Telugu) identities getting melted into a singular Indian identity on a global stage with no context for the histories of these lived experiences. I’m not quite sure where I’ve arrived, but what do you think?

INDIAN MAINSTREAM GOES INTERNATIONAL
In past, Indian Cinema has gone international for mainly the artistic films made here. But after Bahubali and especially after RRR, its different now. The world have seen some Grand film from India with last Rajamouli's films, now it's opened the expectations for the big films from India in International level. And those kind of also sells all over India without any language barriers. That really helps the producers to put money in their films which will go Pan India, then the Pan Indian films can easily go International if it connects worldwide audiences. And that resulted in making more films in such way as KALKI 2898 AD and RAMAYANA etc. Mainly these 2 films the upcoming Rajamouli film with Mahesh Babu really focusing going Pan World.
Team KALKI 2898 AD has started showcasing the film's updates in International events and making of the film is that standard with great technicians. The setup of the film is which the worldwide audience can get excited about and Prabhas's Bahubali reach is an added value. Important International VFX companies are working for the film.
Team RAMAYANA hired Hans Zimmer for music work of the film with Great AR Rahman collaboratting with him. And VFX work is done some important international companies.
And we know that the next Rajamouli film will do no less than these films.
So, That's what i meant when the tittle said INDIAN MAINSTREAM GOES INTERNATIONAL.

Why Junior NTR’s ‘Devara’ Couldn’t Match Prabhas’ ‘Kalki 2898 AD’? Here’s What Went Wrong
Junior NTR, after making waves with his role in ‘RRR,’ has returned with his new Pan-India film, Devara. Directed by Koratala Siva, this high-action movie made a strong opening, grossing Rs 304 crore in its first weekend. While this figure is commendable, it fell short when compared to the box office success of Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD, which raked in Rs 555 crore globally during its opening…

Film Friday: 5 Selected Films of This week!
The majority of individuals enjoy spending their free time watching movies. And it gets much more fascinating when it comes to intriguing genres like thrilling, action, and romantic drama. And this week's WhatsOn editorial Colin McIlwaine has come with reviews of interesting films to make your weekend worthwhile. 1. A Man Called Otto Tom Hanks gives his usual excellent performance as a grumpy and anti-social man. A man who turns out to have a good heart in this thought-provoking film. Otto initially appears as someone who is determined to keep everyone at a distance and even, to pick an argument at every available opportunity. The truth is that Otto has been deeply affected by the death of his wife. It is Marisol, the mother of the young family who has moved in beside him who finally manages to penetrate his defenses and bring out a softer and kinder side to him. As the film moves forward, we see a very different Otto and we are challenged to think about neighborly relationships and perhaps, the less attractive aspects of our own personalities https://youtu.be/eFYUX9l-m5I 2. M3GAN This was a film that I approached with a degree of curiosity, wondering how the story would pan out. M3GAN is a four-foot-tall, lifelike robotic doll, who begins as a child's toy and takes on the role of her "friend”. But who soon turns out to have a much more sinister and dangerous side to her personality? Cady, the child in question, has lost her parents in a car accident. And it is her aunt and now guardian who has created M3GAN. Fantasy and reality walk closely together in this film and we are constantly wondering when good will triumph over evil and when this creation that has gone badly wrong will get her comeuppance. https://youtu.be/BRb4U99OU80 3. I Wanna Dance With Somebody I had been looking forward for some time to seeing the Whitney Houston biopic. And it was certainly a great film. If at times harrowing and sad, I reflected on a life that ended far too soon and in such tragic circumstances. We first meet Whitney at an early age, as she grows up in the company of greatly talented artists such as Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick. Also including her own mother, Cissie. Whitney is influenced by her involvement in the Church and encouraged by family and friends to make good use of the singing talent which God has given to her. As she grows, we see her struggles with her own sexuality, the pressure of other people's expectations, and the demands of her rapidly burgeoning career. Marriage and motherhood seem to add to the pressures and at times. It is sad to watch this clearly very talented entertainer trying to cope with all that life throws at her. British actress Naomi Ackie captures her troubled personality and also her ability to captivate an audience with her beautiful voice. A film worth a watch and indeed, more than one. https://youtu.be/9tfemzaMkoU 4. RRR For someone who has become increasingly interested in films made on the Indian sub-continent, this one made for a fascinating few hours on New Year's Eve. Set in India in 1920, during the period of the British Raj, it is the fictional story of two revolutionary heroes and their adventures as they take on the might of the Empire. The film is at times quite explicitly violent. At the same time, extremely amusing, as we see people running faster than tigers, kick-flipping over motorcycles, and flying through the air. There is an enjoyable musical score and the prolonged dance sequence is particularly entertaining. The film is over three hours long and yet, it seemed to pass quickly. This is a film that is well worth a watch. Especially if someone wants to get away from reality for a little while. https://youtu.be/nXQVoJdDdBg 5. Wild Mountain Thyme I recently discovered this 2020 film on Netflix. Set in County Mayo in the Irish Republic (a lovely part of the world which I know well). It features Northern Ireland's own Jamie Dornan and British/American actress Emily Blunt as Anthony and Rosemary. They are an introverted pair in their thirties. And they live on neighboring farms and seem to be made for each other. But they always beat around the bush and try to avoid expressing what is really going on inside their hearts and minds. It is only when his wealthy American cousin, Chris attempts to get fresh with her that Anthony is forced to confront his true feelings for Rosemary. Also, his difficult relationship with his father, Tony. It is an interesting story, full of dry humor and a good exploration of human emotions and interaction. https://youtu.be/kadUgcIxODM Read the full article

SS Rajamouli says ‘high fees of actors, directors’ led to downfall of Hindi films in 2022 : Bollywood News
To say filmmaker SS Rajamouli had a wonderful year would be an understatement. His film RRR, starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, has been a blockbuster. It is receiving accolades in the West, with several awards wins, Golden Globes nominations, and Oscars 2023 buzz. While few South films did well pan-India, Hindi films failed to generate the kind of business it expected with few exceptions like…

RRR at the Golden Globes: Evolution of India’s soft power
RRR at the Golden Globes: Evolution of India’s soft power
The Golden Globe nominations for S S Rajamouli’s RRR are, in a sense, an acknowledgement of the film’s immense popularity and impact across the world. Domestically, like the two-part Baahubali, Rajamouli’s Raj-era action extravaganza transcended linguistic barriers and became a pan-Indian blockbuster. On the international stage, it now represents a new stage in the evolution of Indian mainstream…
