May 26, 2024 | Mt. Batulao - Nasugbu, Batangas
We made it!
First time ko mag commute pa Manila mag-isa since doon ang pickup point at dito palang nagdadalawang isip na ako kung itutuloy ko pa. I know malayo ang pickup point sa lugar ko pero pinush ko nalang din. Main plan ko talaga, Dau-Cubao terminal then mag grab or angkas/joyride nalang to Greenfield.
Then after isang oras ata, biglang may fireworks sa kabila. Kaya nung may live band tas fireworks narin, inisip ko nalang if ma cancel man yung hike namin, okay na ako magstay muna dito.
Hahaha
Bale may 12 peaks yung Mt. Di ko na talaga maisipang mag cellphone, mag picture/video and all dahil as in focus ako sa trail.
Hahaha.

Hey folks, I just got back from a 2-week trip to the Philippines. I finally got the opportunity to visit Taal and Pagsanjan! Our Baguio tour fell through though, but it's all right. With all the family gatherings, it was already a tightly packed two weeks, especially since my family decided to use Clark instead of NAIA, and shooting back and forth between Pampanga and Laguna took up so much more time than we anticipated. Anyway, I got lots of thoughts, so expect a few posts coming soon!

Journey to Mt. Pinatubo – October 19-20, 2024
At around 11 PM on October 19, Justine Rodrigo, my coworker and a trainer from my workplace, we met at our meeting point near Ayala, Makati. Justine's former colleague invited him to join the hike, was also there.
We boarded a white van, and around 3 AM on October 20, we picked up other joiners in Dau, Pampanga. Once the group was complete, we continued our journey. The driver played some indie OPM music during the ride, which I really liked.
We made a brief stop at Jollibee in Pampanga before resuming the drive towards Mt. Pinatubo.
Before the van entered Mt. Pinatubo, my signal on Touch Mobile disappeared. At the checkpoint, the military borrowed our valid IDs and took our pictures.
Upon arriving at the registration site, we got off the van. I saw some kids who suddenly approached me, trying to sell me bamboo sticks for 20 pesos and a scarf for 50 pesos to cover my nose and mouth to protect against dust when we rode the 4x4 vehicle heading to Mt. Pinatubo. I bought both the scarf and the bamboo sticks.
Before boarding the 4x4, I also bought a sip of coffee, specifically 3-in-1 Nescafe Original, since I felt a bit cold from the van's air conditioning.
As we boarded the 4x4, we rode for about 20 kilometers to the Botolan Zambales Junction, which I guess took around an hour.
During the 4x4 ride, I met Kuya Alvin, our tour guide to Mt. Pinatubo. He shared stories about the mountain and the indigenous tribe there, the Daeta. He informed us that the first mountain the vehicle passed was named 48 Mountain, the second was named Predil, and after that, we would see Tarucan Village before reaching Botolan Zambales Junction. The vehicle was very bumpy due to the rocky road, and dust appeared because of the lahar we passed through, which was caused by Mt. Pinatubo in the past. There was also a lot of water splashing around us while we were in the vehicle.
At around 6:30 AM, we got off the 4x4 vehicle, and our hiking journey began.
At first, we took pictures of ourselves with the beautiful nature as the background, surrounded by trees, mountains, and everything nature had to offer. Justine and I even tried to mimic a pose we saw on Facebook, which was pretty amusing.
Then, we started trekking.
We walked through rocky trails, jumped over small streams to avoid getting our shoes wet, until we encountered one stream with a shaky rock. I felt like it was about to break, and I might fall. I had no choice, and I didn’t think to take off my shoes, so I ended up stepping into the water and soaking my shoes. Justine experienced the same thing and had to soak his shoes as well.
Along the way, we passed a group of military personnel lined up on the trail. One of them was carrying a large cauldron. They were so respectful and greeted us with "Good morning."
By 7 AM, we were still walking. Justine seemed a bit out of breath, partly because he had a gout attack a few days before, which made walking difficult for him. Also, since we’re both larger people, it made the hike a bit more challenging. The bamboo sticks helped a lot in saving energy, as I used mine to support each step, especially on the steeper parts of the trail.
Every 500 meters, there were vendors selling food like hotdogs, kwek-kwek, and drinks. However, I would suggest bringing your own drinks because the prices here were quite expensive.
The trail became progressively more difficult, with the rocks we had to step on getting larger and the incline steeper. I even told Justine to shout out every problem he had, as it was kind of cathartic. It really helped ease the burden of the hike and our worries. Eventually, we reached the top of the mountain at around 10 AM.
It was such a joyful moment. Justine even cried tears of joy, relieved that we finally finished the challenging trek over the rocky terrain.
It was a challenging journey where you didn’t just focus on the goal but also had to solve and overcome every trial along the way to survive, thrive, and succeed.

Find Furby me!
Morning of September 16, 2023 found me and my parents traveling to Pampanga to attend a flight school's career orientation. I was so excited about finally having an actual sneak peek at the student life I really dreamt of having. All throughout the drive, I was just ecstatic. Upon arriving at the school compounds, I was becoming giddy. It was an amazing place—at the entrance is quite a long unpaved road, which leads to a roundabout. I wasn't able to see any buildings at first because the area was just filled with nothing but trees. If I would become a student there, I'm sure that would be one if not my most favorite hang-out places. It was only when I reached the roundabout when I saw a drop arm barrier, which turned out to be the actual entrance to the school itself. Located at Clark Freeport, it was a quiet place, save for the sound of rustling trees, and the occasional sound of airplanes nearby.
We settled down, and realized we arrived an hour earlier than the official program time. My parents decided to take a quick nap and encouraged me to do so as well, but I was just a bundle of nerves. I know that I would be closing my eyes, and my mind would just go into overdrive.
Fast forwarding to the program. It was a very informative orientation, having showed everyone who attended the current news and trends in the industry. There was also a game afterwards, which I felt I could have succeeded in winning if only my hands weren't shaking from excitement. And of course, the program wouldn't be complete if a campus tour wasn't included. The school boasts of being the 'Ateneo' of flight schools, meaning they were considered one of the top (which, just for humor, I found icky because I graduated from its ✨green✨ rival). But kidding aside, I think they walk the talk, what with all three advanced simulators for both A320 and A330 and other fixed base training devices? Just ...*chef's kiss*.
And as the program and also the day ended, I would be going home with new insights to the industry, the school features, some photos in the awesome simulators, and of course some cool giveaways (because I did ask a question during the Q&A 😏).
Check out the video highlights from the school's official FB page:

Different Shade of Blue
Blue was never a color I liked. It carried connotations of a boyish demeanor, something that clashed with my conservative upbringing. It never felt like it belonged against my dark brown skin, a subtle insecurity that lingered until now.
We've always delved into peculiar topics. I jested about bizarre scenarios, like contorting people to fit into a room. Then, I pondered aloud about people turning blue when deprived of air. At that moment, you introduced me to a medical term: "cyanosis." Cyan, signifying blue, and osis, indicating a state of being. I recall playfully suggesting, "If I am sad, does that mean I am undergoing cyanosis?" Laughter followed over a lame dad joke that bound us together.
As we rode the tides, blue deepened and embraced new hues, identical to the tranquil waters of the Aegean Sea. Your smile remained in my thoughts during quiet moments, a memory that I hold close, finding it endlessly charming. With each shared laughter and stories exchanged, blue intensified its shade. It was a color uniquely ours.
It was midnight blue when you touched me. Secrets unfolded, and our souls intertwined as you caressed me. In your arms, I am home—an assurance we belong together.
Then came the day when the color shifted to indigo. Everything morphed into a somber state as you waved goodbye. My heart aches with every recollection of your departure. The hues of blue continue to dally, a bittersweet reminder of what once was. A tinge of longing stained our memories and the dreams we wove together.
Now, every shade of blue carries echoes of you. The various hues, each with its distinctive intensity, tell a story of us.
For Ken, written just days after you left. The photo attached was taken during Over October's Ating Dalawa Tour in Pampanga last September 2023. Paolo, one of the artists who performed that night. I remember how I couldn't contain my excitement about seeing him for the first time—I imagine you shared in that excitement too. I introduced you to his music, and you mentioned how much you liked it, especially "Different Shade of Blue." We even started calling it "cyanosis" as an inside joke. I shared this with Paolo during the meet and greet, although I'm not certain if he remembers. After the gig, I recounted every detail to you, including your amusing comment that "Paolo might remember you as the girl who gave sisig recommendations and taught him how to count in Kapampangan." But let's set that aside for now. Whenever I hear that song, it inevitably brings you to mind. I suppose I'm hurting, but right now, all I truly care about is hoping you're okay. Blue will never be the same color for me, but I'm grateful you left your mark, staining my life with hues of blue. Without you, life would have been far drearier. Paolo seems to have found his different shade of blue and his happiness. I only wish it could have been the same for us.

Wonderful Paradise: Discovering the Diverse Tapestry of Filipino Foods on Your First Trip to the Philippines"
One of the best places in the world for foodie travel is the Philippines. By exploring the country, you can taste the many cuisines that are offered on every island. Although a lot of visitors come to the Philippines to view its stunning islands and internationally recognized beaches, the nation's more than 7000 islands offer an incredibly varied food experience encounter. The people, history, and culture of a region, city, or island are reflected in each dish in Filipino cuisine. A component of visiting the Philippines as a tourist includes sampling local cuisine and doing culinary tours. Your taste buds will be stimulated, and you'll also learn more about Filipino culture. Every area of the nation has a unique cuisine. Despite the fact that some of them are the same, the places usually have twists and changes! The top cuisine locations in the nation are listed below, and you should include them in your itinerary:
In addition to being the location of the magnificent Mayon Volcano, Bicol has become known for its unique use of coconut and chiles in Filipino cuisine across the nation. The most well-known food item associated with Bicol is the Bicol Express. This stew with coconut milk is made with either sautéed shrimp or pork chunks, chiles, and shrimp paste. Another delicacy is kinunot, a coconut-based dish made with stingray, shark flesh, and malunggay leaves. Remember to consume some pili nuts or their derivatives. The typical Bicolano snack is this nut, which is harvested from a tree of the same name. Second, Cebu has established a name for itself in the culinary world. The traditional Cebuano food is lechon. Lechon is available all throughout the country, but Cebu's version is definitely worth trying! Sutukil—a a acronym of the words "sugba" (grill), "tula" (stew), and "kilawin"—is a well-liked culinary experience (soaked in vinegar). One can find Sutukil restaurants throughout the province. Other Cebuano dishes to sample include pochero (beef soup similar to bulalo), kinilaw (fish ceviche), and utan (leafy green and root vegetables cooked in salted water). Third, Pampanga is approximately a few hours' drive from Metro Manila. The province has been named the Culinary Capital of the Philippines since it is home to some of the country's best culinary legends and mouthwatering native specialties. Morcon never misses a family or community event. This recipe calls for wrapping ground beef and pork, chorizo sausages, onions, eggs, raisins, and cheese in pig's caul fat. Sisig is another traditional Pampanga dish that is a must-try on Pampanga vacations and has received widespread praise. If you're a gourmet, these attractions in the Philippines will grab your interest and spark your creativity.

0556 20Oct23: took a really nice drive yesterday. Surprisingly the traffic wasn't hell.
I drove up to Angeles City, Pampanga via the SCTEX. It was a VERY beautiful drive through a scenic location with mountains off to my left for a good portion if the drive. Surprisingly, and I need to look into it, there is this one massive mountain that seems to be oddly placed that sits east of Angeles and San Fernando and it looked to be just a single mountain out in the middle of a plain. I want to know what it is. It's comparable to Mt. Fuji in Japan, minus the snow cap.
But my eyes were mesmerized by the mountain tops off to the lefts because they were not "rolling mountain tops" they had some jagged edges and shit. Very "Ganda"!!
Seeing these things makes me want to tour more, but I know I need to get a good sturdy tripod, good walking shoes, and a few more reliable batteries for my cameras.
For now, it is a little past 6am, and I need to check if it's raining. If it is not, then I want to try and get a quick morning walk-in.
