I Will Not Ask and Neither Should You
Pairing: Simon 'Ghost' Riley x F!Reader (Jaguar) Chapters: 2/3 Notes: inspired by Hozier's Like Real People Do, Jag Backstory unlocked!!!
Part One | Part Three | AO3 | MASTERLIST Why were you digging? / What did you bury Before those hands pulled me / From the earth? I will not ask you where you came from / I will not ask and neither should you
___
You were in the kitchen getting water for the both of you when the message came in.
55.7249º N, 37.5541º E. Tuesday, 14:00.
The +7 country code made a cold sweat break over your body. Russia. You didn’t know how the sender got your number, but if it was who you thought, they would have their ways. All you could do was stare at your phone as your heart hammered through your chest.
“Everything al’right?”
You hadn’t even noticed Simon come up behind you.
“Mmhmm,” you managed, passing him a glass of water as you set your phone screen-down on the counter. You lowered your head onto your arms, resting them on the surface to hide your face while you backed your nakedness against the colossus of a man. A raspy grunt was his response.
“Dangerous, Jag,” Simon warned, but closed the gap all the same. He kissed your shoulders and back, setting down the glass of water next to your phone. “Heart’s racin’,” he murmured against your skin as his hands smoothed down to your hips. “Can hear it from ‘ere.”
“You have that effect on me.” It wasn’t a lie—not usually. But at present, the contents of the text message were still etched into your brain. You felt like throwing up.
“Thought you needed a break, luv.”
“Changed my mind,” you tried your best to even your voice, but it still came out shaky.
Ghost’s hands stilled on your hips as he paused. “We don’t ‘ave to—”
“Need you, Simon,” you interrupted, raising your head to look back at him while snaking his tattooed hand up and around your neck.
Dark eyes glinted in the low light, looking at the phone on the counter, then searching yours for a moment—for an out, a reason. But all they found was benediction. He tightened his grip around your throat and kissed you softly.
When your beautiful man was finally asleep, sound and unsuspecting, you hated yourself for exploiting his weaknesses. For knowing that he got sloppy around you in this domestic setting; that he slept deeper—you both did—after a few rounds. That he knew you’d get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom or refill your water.
You slipped out of the warm bed, packing as quietly as you could—shoving your life with Simon “Ghost” Riley into your black duffel. Hating yourself more as you scribbled on the back of a receipt and set it down next to his mask.
Something I have to do.
You looked at him one last time—perhaps for the final time. His blonde hair was exposed, his ultimate layer of trust in you; you watched his scared back softly rise and fall as he slept. Numbness ran through your body at stupidity of thinking you’d finally escaped your past. Cut all the ties. That you naively thought you had built something here, too. People in your line of work never get happy endings. Your throat tightened as you slipped through the front door, locking it behind you. Your cab was already gone by the time he woke.
______
Moscow was frigid and covered in a light dusting of snow when you landed. And all those memories of a life left behind seeped back up from their well of suppression on the cab ride to the coordinates. It seemed like a lifetime ago. In a way, it was. There was a split in the road then, where you made a choice. One that lead you to San Francisco and to Kokshetau and to Leeds. One where you chose your life.
Yet here you were, back in the cold and snow—despair growing in the pit of your stomach with each mile passed. You worried your jaguar pendant between gloved fingers.
The cab stilled in front of large bronze doors, now a dull green after centuries of oxidation.
Новодевичье кладбище: Novodevichy Cemetery.
You paid the fare and got out, duffel slung over your shoulder. There were tourists and locals alike visiting the historic cemetery. It made you even more on edge as you entered through the double doors. You were too vulnerable out here in the open.
Checking your watch, you were thirty minutes early, giving you enough time to scope out the location. It calmed you some, passing by the beautiful tombstones and monuments of Russia’s most notable and respected citizens. Anton Chekhov, Vera Mukhina, Lyudmila Gurchenko. Pristine marble and greying stone and wet concrete. It was an odd location for a meeting but you hoped with all the people around you could let your guard down a little. You wandered through the maze of the deceased. But then you saw it: a mound of freshly laid earth and an ornate marble bust. You stopped completely. Felt your heart stuck in your throat and a flush of heat to your face. Your hands went numb as you just stared.
Vladislava Ignatyev.
The thread that lead you to where you were now. In memory you heard the gentle clink of a tea cup and the soft rustling of a maid’s dress.
You’d make a fine spy one day, my beautiful Odette.
That your wish or mine?
Neither. It’s your nature, dear. The same way a fish takes to water or a swan flight.
…
You can give me that look but you know I’m right. You were a caged, pretty little thing when I discovered you. And now you’ve grown majestically into your true nature. Just remember who gave you your wings when you are enjoying your freedom. My door will always be open for you…
The marble bust on the cold floor did the older woman no justice. It failed to capture her elegance and the magnitude of her character. You’d learned so much from her. Vladislava was a woman who silenced a room when she entered, through no other means than just being her. And now she was in the cold ground beneath you. Beauty and stature decaying. You wanted to cry but the tears would not come.
“It’s you…”
The gentle voice snapped you to the present again. Standing across from you was a handsome man, with blonde, wavy hair falling to frame his young face. His blue eyes took you in.
You inhaled deeply. “Dimitri.”
He smiled and you felt a tightness in your chest.
“I…I was not sure you would come.” Low chatter from the other visitors passing by filled the silence as you took each other in. His smile grew wider. “You look so different, and yet exactly how I remember you.”
“And you’ve grown,” you found yourself returning the smile slightly. Dimitri shifted on his feet, like he wanted to take your hand like he used to, but knowing that too much time had passed. You continued, “Surprised you even recognized me.”
He looked at you kindly and chuckled. “You weren’t always in ballet attire, my lisIchka. The short hair suits you though.”
You ran your gloved fingers through your choppy hair, recalling the muscle memory that had sleeked it into a taught bun countless times in the past—not a flyway in sight. Streamline. Efficient. Orderly. Your true nature.
Dimitri stepped around the grave so that he was facing it too, the both of you staring at the bust on the floor.
“We were just kids, then, weren’t we?”
You hummed. “You more-so.” You sucked in a breath. “When did she pass?”
“Last week. A stroke. It was so sudden—she had been in perfectly good health," his voice wavered slightly. “I was the one who found her in her bed in the morning. She just looked like she was sleeping...”
The statue’s hollowed eyes stared into nothingness. You had to look away, so you looked up at Dimitri. “I owe your mother a lot. I… I’m sorry I never came back,” you paused, studying the side of his face. He must be twenty six now—a decade gone in the blink of an eye; all those memories of the two of you when you were younger filtered back. You steadied your breath. “But I had to experience the world for myself.”
The younger man turned to you. “I understand. Never could keep you caged. No one could.”
You smiled but it didn’t meet your eyes. Nostalgia was a deceiver.
Dimitri cleared his throat. “There is another reason I asked you here, though. Something I have for you. From Vladislava.”
He reached into his wool peacoat and procured a long velvet box. Hesitating, you reached for the it, staring at the plain box in your hands before opening it.
It was the necklace that Vladislava had worn the night you first met: a massive canary diamond choker, surrounded by ornate gold and diamonds. You recalled the burning in your legs as you took your closing bow for the Vaganova Ballet Academy, peering into the crowd and seeing a glint of yellow among the blur of the audience. She’d come to you after, as you were removing all the feathers and makeup backstage. Introduced herself. You had no idea her influence at the time; you were only eighteen. But soon you were living with her. Wandering her massive estate with Dimitri. Being her eyes and ears at events with the most affluent; sometimes the most corrupt as well. Learning all you could from her as you started down a completely different path than when you first moved to Russia.
The significance of the necklace wasn’t lost on you as you stared down at the gorgeous piece. You closed the box quietly.
“I can’t take this, Dima,” you passed the box back to him, but he didn’t move. He just looked down at you, fondness in his eyes at the familiarity of his moniker. He wrapped his hands over yours.
“I'm afraid you don’t have a choice, lisIchka. It was in her will.” His hands stayed for a moment, then fell back to his side.
You simply stared at the box.
“You know,” he said softly, moving slightly closer to you, “there’s always a place for you here. In Moscow. At our home.”
And for a moment, the sun peaked through the grey day, alighting Dima’s golden hair. But when you looked at him, all you saw was Simon and his flat and the rain and his warmth. You gave a sad smile.
“Ah,” he said, understandingly.
You reached out and took his hand, running your gloved-thumb over his knuckles. “In another life, perhaps.”
He squeezed back. “I’ll look for you, then.”
You heart hurt at the whole situation. Vladislava was a force, now extinguished. And a childhood crush had clearly become something more. You held onto him for a while longer, then finally let go of his hand.
“Well, you must be exhausted from your travels,” Dima looked around. The oppressive sky was continuing to lighten. “To be honest I wasn’t sure you would even come, but I reserved a room for you at the Kempinski anyway. Stay as long as you need.”
You tucked the box into you jacket and looked at the younger man one last time, reaching up to touch his face. “Thank you for everything, Dima.” He leaned into your caress. “Take care of yourself.”
“And you.”
You gave a final glance at the grave, then left, not looking back. ______

Reassembly 3
ch1 ch2
Masterpost
Peter pushed his bangs back for the billionth time. They immediately fell back in front of his eyes as he hunched over the library computer. He'd spent all day trying to get his bearings in this universe. Eventually, his stomach had gotten attention. Even with the stuff from the hotel buffet, he was so hungry it was distracting.
That had made him realize that what he needed most was money. He needed access to a steady stream of money. When he left here he could try to make the best decision possible about the little bit of cash he had, sure. But it wouldn't last long.
He had the spiteful fantasy of taking the money he needed from the LOA company that had been funding …whatever they'd done to him. An all-expenses paid kidnapping was only fair.
But it was only a thought. Whoever they were, they were dangerous. He shouldn't provoke them or give them any clues about him. Whatever experiments they'd been doing with him must have been expensive. They probably wanted him back. He needed to know more before he risked getting their attention.
Instead, Peter started up a resume. He put his real name at the top and then stared at it in indecision. He swallowed.
Was that a good idea? He… he didn't exist here, so it seemed fine. But maybe he should use a fake name?
Peter strained to think of a reason to use a fake name now that he knew he didn't exist here. How could those people possibly know his name? He definitely hadn't told them. It was probably smarter to be cautious, but it was his name. The idea of losing it made him feel like throwing up.
"If I think of a reason I shouldn't use it, I can change that." Peter muttered to himself quietly enough that no one seemed to notice. He took a few minutes to search around for high schools in the area. It was so weird that Midtown didn't exist here. He felt like a fraud as he entered the information for the school he thought would have been his school district. He double checked the year (and it was so weird that it was 5 years in the past here) and back dated his graduation 3 years. Then he grimaced and made it 5 years.
No way would anyone who saw his face believe that. But he'd need to pretend to have a university degree to get this kind of work, so it couldn't be helped.
'People lie on their resumes all the time,' Peter told himself. He still felt like crap about it. He still… he still hadn't graduated high school, and he probably never would.
It was fine. He knew enough that he was never going to stick out as less educated than a high school graduate.
'I'll get the college degree, though. If I really am here for a long time, I need an education.'
Peter deliberately picked an innocuous university to claim for his fake Bachelors in Computer Science. It took a while to find a place with a sufficiently not-prestigious program but enough graduates for him to have been lost in the crowd. He'd have to redo the resume with the real degree later.
Oh. Wait. Peter went back up and deleted his name. That was his reason to use a fake name for this work.
He was going to get a real degree in his own name. This resume was just to make some money, not to establish an identity. He watched the cursor blink for a while, trying to think of a name. It needed to be something that he could remember. Ned Leeds? It would make him too sad. Same for Tony Stark. But…
Peter slowly typed out James Barnes and huffed a laugh through his nose.
He'd recently escaped unethical scientists and found himself lost in a new world where he had no friends or family. It seemed appropriate.
"Hey," grumbled the mental Bucky Barnes that Peter's subconscious had apparently generated for some reason. "You little shit."
That was fine. Peter ignored the rising evidence of a mental breakdown and finished falsifying a resume. He used it to apply for several contract jobs in web design. He took a deep breath to counteract the urge to make a joke with someone, anyone, about how it was funny for Spiderman to get into web design.
Man. He was lonely.
There was no point in hanging around the library longer. The sun had set and it was close to closing time, 6:00 pm. He couldn't check anything out, not without an ID, and he wasn't going to get any emails back immediately.
Peter shuffled out and walked at random down the street. The sound of cars and pedestrians and crosswalks soothed his hindbrain.
He used the time to think. To plan.
He needed to refresh what he knew. The library would be a great start. He'd come early tomorrow and read some computer science books. That aside, he also needed to start working on a long term identity and getting into university.
'I'm going to want a scholarship. If I can do that, I won't have to work too much.'
The trouble with that was that Peter couldn't go to any random school. He needed to be somewhere with a significant budget for the sciences. If he was going to get home, he needed access to some serious technology.
'That's a big ask. Why would a prestigious school offer full scholarships?'
He felt defeated before he even started. But it was worth asking. That was the kind of question that the librarians wouldn't be suspicious of at all. He was actually in the right age group to look into college admissions.
'Okay. I need an ID. Birth certificate? That's the first ID anyone gets.'
Well. Time to see if the city administration buildings were where he remembered. How hard could it be to break in, print a birth certificate, and backdate and file it? He was Spiderman.
…And Spiderman really shouldn't be using his super powers for crime. What would Aunt May think? Peter grimaced and rubbed at his face with both hands.
Was it really that bad? 'I'm not stealing anything or hurting anyone,' he defended himself. 'I'm doing what I need in order to survive.'
The part that he felt worst about was lying about his education. But he had the skillset and qualifications, he just couldn't explain his internship to a genius that didn't exist here and extracurriculars at a school this universe didn't have.
'That's barely even a crime,' Peter thought. 'Breaking and entering isn't great, but I'm just fixing my own paperwork. I really was born. So it's not a fake ID.'
With that logic ironed out, Peter made his way to the vital records office. The building looked like he remembered, thankfully.
So. He shoved his hands deeper into his pockets and walked around the block to see the building from all sides.
It didn't exactly look super secure. It was an old brick faced building with a lonely camera angled down the stairs of the main entry. There was a metal detector visible from outside, and he knew from experience that there were maybe 3 security officers on the first floor.
'That's easy to get around if I enter from a higher floor. They'll probably have a security team in at night but they won't expect that. If they do a walk through, I'll hear them coming up the stairs or elevator.'
It seemed doable. Sort of.
'I need to know what birth certificates from my birth year looked like, I guess? And if the ones from today look the same. Or maybe I don't need to worry about it, as long as I enter my information digitally. I doubt they keep a paper copy for every birth. The building isn't even big enough. And you can get a copy printed whenever you need one, so… it being new-looking shouldn't be a problem.'
Okay. Alright, he could do this. He could do some paperwork.
It wasn't nearly late enough for that kind of crime, though. Peter shoved his hands in his pockets and decided to spend a little of his money on food.
Long term, getting pre-made food with limited finances was a terrible decision. He knew he should be getting like, beans and rice. But for now he went into a bodega and got the cheapest thing that he thought would make a dent in his hunger– a microwave burrito and a cola. Calories were good, right? He wolfed it down outside the store and ducked back in to throw away the trash immediately.
It still wasn't late enough.
He walked around the city for hours, waiting for an idea to hit him. There had to be a great solution. If he could only think of it, there was going to be something that he could do that would fix all his problems. His throat was hot and tight and his eyes were burning. He didn't cry.
God, he was tired. He eventually gave up. He was so tired and he had no idea where he was going to sleep but he really needed to because he was exhausted -
"Stop. Stop spiraling," he told himself. He sniffled. Aw, no, he wasn't catching a cold, was he? Crap. He hoped not.
He didn't know what time it was, but it felt late enough. He made his way back to the vital statistics office to record his own birth.
Weirdly for a plan devised by Peter, it went smoothly. He entered from a 4th floor window without setting off any alarms. He found and powered on a computer in the right office (thanks for the labels!) and looked up a few birth certificates before he felt confident. He entered his data into the system and printed a copy before powering everything down.
He was out the window within ten minutes of entering the building.
Okay. That was step one. Birth certificate accomplished. "Congratulations, it's a boy," Peter muttered to himself. He patted at the bag to hear the reassuring crinkle of paper inside. Okay, that was great! It was progress. He felt better already.
What was next?
…A driver's license. No one actually went around with a copy of their birth certificate to show when someone asked for ID. He needed a driver's license.
He walked to the DMV and pulled off basically the same heist. The nerve wracking part was turning on the lights to take the photo. His stomach twisted and he was absolutely certain that someone was going to come and see why the lights were on.
No one came. He backdated his license to the appropriate year and printed one typed up information for James Tony Barnes, saying that he was 22. Then he altered the birth year back once more to say he was almost 18.
Nobody in their right mind was going to look at his 15-year-old face and think he was 22. They'd just think he had a fake license. Which he did, so he needed them to think the fake license was real. He let out a deep breath and victoriously hit print.
It returned an error message.
…It wouldn’t print. Why?
He scanned until he found the field he’d messed up. Peter stared at it.
It was the social security number. He’d typed up his real one out of force of habit. It had been flagged as a mistake because it already belonged to someone in the system.
Caught by a morbid curiosity, he looked up who it belonged to. It was a girl, actually, younger than him.
He wanted to cry. It was such a silly thing to cry over! He wasn’t emotionally attached to his social security number– it was just a string of data. But he sniffled. He wiped something away from his eyes that he didn’t think about. Don’t think about it. He wasn’t in a safe place to think about it yet.
It took a few minutes to calm himself. He erased everything he’d done, turned off the computer, and left the way that he’d come.
He couldn’t get the license yet. He needed to get a social security number first. That probably meant that he needed to do some research. Did the office of vital statistics issue them? It didn’t seem right, since each state had to be coordinated. Surely there was some kind of national office that handled all of it.
For lack of anything else to do, his feet took him back to the library. He was so tired that his eyes were aching.
Peter looked at the opening hours. He licked his teeth. He thought about it.
It opened at 10am. It was.. it was…
He decided to risk powering on the evil janitor's phone. It was 11 pm. That was plenty of time for him to sneak a nap on the couch in the quiet space.
"I'm not hurting anyone," Peter said aloud. It was very quiet. He spidered his way up the back wall of the library, pried open a window, and guiltily stretched out on one of the sofas. He set an alarm for 8am. That was definitely earlier than staff would come in, right? Pretty sure.
He slept like the dead. But specifically, like the restless dead- his spider sense woke him up. Peter had no idea what time it was or why he was awake. He blindly grabbed his bag and the phone and leapt back out the window. He was shutting it when the light turned on inside.
He blinked blearily at the sunlight. He checked the phone.
7:21 am. Wow. Okay. Library workers were diligent. Maybe they had to dust all the books or something. He powered the phone off, and wondered how long the battery would last. He didn't have the charger for it.
Well. It seemed like a good time to go to a different hotel from yesterday and check out the buffet.
The hotel he went to had a less exciting buffet. There were a couple kinds of sliced bread and packets of margarine and jelly, as well as coffee, water, milk, and two types of juice. Still, it was free food, so he smiled at the clerk like he belonged there. This time he took a lot less food. Like, a lot less. He didn't want to clear out too much of their stuff.
Two pieces of jellied toast, a water, an orange juice and a coffee later (blegh, it was burnt), Peter was back outside and at loose ends.
He didn't want to turn the phone on to check the time. He guessed it was maybe around 8am. He had a couple hours until the library opened up again.
Well. He sniffled his clothes experimentally.
He should work on that. This outfit wasn't smelly yet, but it would get there. He needed a change of clothes.
He took everything he owned to a rooftop and spread out his work kit. That was a rather grand way to say "three pilfered sewing kits."
The scissors that came with them were absolutely tiny. Peter picked one up and marveled at it. It wasn't going to cut fabric, no way. It would cut thread and that was it.
But woven fabric always tore along the seam line, right? Peter took out his dumpster shirts and found the one with the worst damage- the red shirt. He picked a spot and tore with his hands.
It tore a straight line.
"Yessss," he cheered. He muscled through the seam and then went back to make another tear a little bit above the other one, so that he was basically holding a crop top, a bottom part, and a two inch strip from the middle that was unusable because the scissor cut had been jagged. He wound that up and put it in his bag because he didn't know what else to do with it.
Now he felt nostalgic, so he took out the blue shirt and did the same thing. The cut hadn't been in exactly the same spot, so the shirt with the blue top and red bottom strip was going to be a little longer than the other shirt. But that was fine, right?
He pinned the majority red shirt together using the pins from all 3 packages and painstakingly threaded a needle with the dark blue thread. Then he got to work.
It wasn't hard, honestly. It was more meditative than anything else. He was mostly done when he had the feeling he was being watched. Peter lifted his head and looked down. Then around. Finally, he looked up. "You fly," he said, impressed. "That's cool."
The flying teenager cocked his head at Peter and floated down. It was- honestly, it was kinda creepy and uncanny. Flying shouldn't be silent. There should be, like- an engine running or wings flapping.
He tried to keep the unease off his face. This wasn't his universe. He'd look like a weirdo if he acted surprised about it. He tried to look normal.
"What are you doing?" The guy asked.
Cool, he must be pulling it off.
Peter lifted his sewing project and turned it to show off the seam where red met blue in a neat line. "Customizing my wardrobe," he said, like a freaking dork would. If he said it confidently enough it would sound cooler, right? He eyed up the other teenager. He had spikes on the shoulders of his leather jacket. "I guess you do that too. You uh…. You do that yourself?"
The guy touched the studs on his leather jacket self consciously. "No, I bought it this way." He leaned in. "I didn't know you could do that." He seemed impressed.
Peter flushed, discomfited as he tied off the knit and cut his needle free. This guy was way too cool looking to talk to Peter like that. "Yeah, you can do anything to your stuff," he said. Wow, so eloquent. He cleared his throat and tried to look busy turning the shirt inside out to show how it looked. Luckily it had turned out well. "I like your piercings." And the fade was cool too. Wow, no one at Midtown looked like that. Even their jocks were actually nerds. And this guy was a jock for real. He was huge and handsome.
The guy got real close, looking at Peter's bi-colored shirt.
Peter squirmed. The scrutiny was enough to make him feel paranoid about it being in Spiderman's colors. But this guy didn't know about him. Right? No way, there was no way. He stuffed it in his bag and tried not to look sweaty and suspicious. No underage vigilantes here. Just two normal guys on a 35th story rooftop.
"Teach me."
His head flew up at that imperious demand. "Teach you what exactly?" Peter was too surprised to moderate his tone. It came out too high, too nerdy. "Like- sewing in general, or- your jacket? Do you wanna customize your jacket more?" Oh, man, he was nervous enough that he couldn't speak straight. So embarrassing. Peter forced himself to smile and waited for the reaction with a cringe. This felt like the moment before he got put in a locker.
Man, this dude had intense blue eyes. And he was holding so still. Was he even breathing? "I want more metal in my jacket," he decided. "And- could we make part of it mesh?"
Peter was mostly just glad the guy had started breathing again.
'Mixing leather and mesh doesn't seem structurally sound. Plus, isn't leather meant to be kind of protective?'
…"If you pay for supplies, we can try," Peter said, because this might as well happen, and now he knew someone. Now he knew a normal human being from this universe who he could lean on for cues. He latched on- metaphorically. In reality, he just started packing up his supplies and hoped the guy didn't recognize them as hotel kits. Peter was used to the mortification of being poor, but this was a bit much even for him.
"Yeah, I have Luther's credit card." The guy whipped one out of nowhere and flipped it between his fingers at a dizzying pace. He slapped on a lazy grin and watched Peter intently as he did his weird little dexterity trick.
That was what broke his nerves. That? That was the kind of thing that Ned did in his practical magic phase.
'Is he trying to be cool?' Peter wondered, incredulous. 'He's trying way too hard. He's not actually that cool. I mean, he's definitely cooler than me, but it's not as bad as I thought.'
Awesome. Peter could work with that. He relaxed tremendously. He was just gonna think of this guy as a really muscular Ned. He was pretty sure that Ned would still hang out with Peter even if he'd gotten that tall and strong after puberty, so it was probably a fair comparison.
"That's great," he said, pretending he knew who Luther was. The guy's stepdad or something, probably. Why else would he have a credit card from someone he called by their name? "You wanna go now?" He paused. "I'm Peter, by the way."
The other boy's hand was weirdly warm and firm when he reached out for a handshake (what? Teenagers shake hands here?. That was so uncool and he'd never have guessed it). "Kon." He flashed his perfect teeth again. "Yeah, let's go. Wanna walk or fly?"
Peter shrugged. "Whichever is cool," he said. He hoped Kon didn't expect him to be able to fly. If he needed to he could like, parkour, and pretend that was just his preference.
"Flying it is!" Peter yelped and just barely aborted a dodge as Kon cheerfully grabbed him in a bridal carry and swooped out into the open air.
Kon and Peter, both wrong at the arts and crafts store: "I have successfully befriended a normal guy in my age group. I can copy him surreptitiously to learn to blend in better, as long as he doesn't learn that I'm not a cool guy like him."

Tips For Finding The Roofing Company For Your Needs
Your roof is constantly being exposed to the elements, so it is amazing that it lasts as long as it does. However, no roof lasts forever. Eventually, you are going to have to replace or repair your roof. When this happens, arm yourself with the information in this article so you can have the job done right.
When selecting roofers, verify their insurance coverage. Insurance is a sign of a reliable contractor. This insurance will also cover costs in the event of an accident.
If you have a leak and are going on your roof to search for it, bring a hose with you. You can spray the hose in order to find out where the leak is coming from. However, do not do this in the winter, as the water from the hose could cause ice.
When a storm blows through your area, beware of roofers who knock on your door. They often follow a storm and offer their services to everyone on the block, then they put up a cheap, inadequate roof while taking all the money your insurer will offer on your claim, ripping you off.
When looking for a roofing contractor to hire, the Better Business Bureau can be an invaluable resource. What you want to look for are contractors that maintain an "A+" rating. The Better Business Bureau can be searched online, or you can contact a local office. You'll also be able to see any complaints filed, and how the contractor resolved those complaints.
Never try to repair your roof while the weather conditions are hazardous. Your roof can wait until the storm clears, and you should be more concerned about your safety than the state of your roof. The storm could cause additional damage anyhow, so there really is not much use in trying fix it until it all ends.
If you've paid attention, you've learned something about putting that new roof on your home. Everything you can find out before making those important decisions is so important when it comes to getting the right roof for your family's home. Remember everything you've learned so that you can do it right.

Quiet Music: Diminuendo (Chapter Nine)
In collaboration with @bethanysnow
One step forward and two steps back. Oblivion and doubt pair beautifully with a night out. An orange velvet dress. Jealousy and if it meant the same thing ends up in nights alone.
Content | Fluff, bit of angst
Pairing | fem!Reader x Damiano
Word Count | 3367
***
Damiano had decided that waking up in Y/n’s arms was the best feeling in the world. He would have stayed there forever too - enjoying her warmth, her arms wrapped around him, legs entangled, studying her adorable sleeping face. If only it hadn’t been for her alarm roughly waking her up and causing them to start the day ahead. Alas, work called. In a whirlwind, bags were packed, everyone was stumbling into the bus, and they were on the road before they knew it. Leeds wasn’t much of a distance, and they all seemed to be rather thankful for it - spending so much time in cramped quarters was getting old, fast.
Yesterday was a lot, a lot of things to process, a lot of things to think about. Y/n was involved with all of it to some extent, if he thought about it now. Damiano had made up his mind that he was going to try to make Y/n's days easier. Actually start acting like he was her boyfriend. He could see she was wearing herself down. It wasn’t going to happen under his watch.
Plus, the more time he managed to free up for her, the more she’d be able to spend with him. Alone.
The first item on his agenda for the day was breakfast - well, brunch really, at this point. As sick as they were all getting of the tour bus, he was immensely thankful for the little kitchenette and fully-stocked cupboards, courtesy of Y/n. A quick search confirmed he had all he would need - eggs, cheese, some random vegetables thrown in, perfect. Quickly ushering Y/n away as she lurked around the corner into the main area, a look on her face that was somewhere between strict and confused, he closed the door to the little hang out spot at the end of the bus and went to work. The surprise was part of the deal, after all.
***
Y/n was in the middle of her transcription work for university when the sliding door opened. She wouldn’t have paid it any attention either, trying to stay focused on the task at hand, if it hadn’t been for the insanely delicious smell suddenly filling the room. Looking up, Damiano stood in front of her, plate in hand, and the proudest smile on his face.
“Do I need to be concerned?” She asked, slight crease in her brows as she studied him.
“About my cooking? Hopefully not!” With a gesture much greater than necessary, he laid out the plate next to her laptop, holding out a fork. “A frittata for the lady!”
“Thanks, you’re an absolute babe. Mind putting the fork next to it for now? I’ll have some while I work.”
“Nuh-uh!” He tutted, quickly grabbing onto the laptop and closing it. “Very unhealthy behaviour. No working while you eat.”
“What’s this, doctor’s orders?” She laughed, somewhere between amused and maybe a little annoyed.
“Damiano’s orders! Now dig in and enjoy.”
Y/n watched as Damiano sauntered away, still holding her laptop in his hands. She shook her head to herself, admitting defeat as she took the fork and the plate. She wasn’t quite sure what had gotten into the singer, but so far, she wasn’t complaining. Not with a dish this delicious.
***
“What are you so excited about?”
Victoria had thrown herself onto the little seat next to Y/n, who, after brunch, had moved back to her usual spot in the middle of the bus. There was barely enough space for two people on the bench, but neither of them seemed to terribly mind. Tour did that to you, Damiano realised.
“Just press.”
“That’s a new one,” Ethan threw in, contemplative look on his face. “You usually cannot wait for us to be done.”
“Well, that’s because we don’t usually do press at Leeds castle,” Y/n explained with the brightest smile. Damiano couldn’t help but mirror her expression. He wasn’t generally too keen on more interviews, more photoshoots, more new people with varying degrees of professionalism, but her enthusiasm was hard to ignore.
A brief look outside the window presented Damiano with a sign telling him Leeds was but a few miles away at this point. He was glad for the relatively short bus ride. And for the way Y/n was now launching into a whole spiel about the castle, castles in general, and everything concerned with medieval times. From something about Catherine of Aragon to the renovated stables now housing an ice cream shop. He would never stop being impressed by her. Her knowledge. Her sense of beauty for so many things in the world. The way she loved to share all of it with the people around her. He was so distracted by her, he only realised they had stopped and people started leaving the tour bus, when Thomas gave him a harsh slap on the shoulder on his way out.
“Come on, loverboy, time to work. Maybe you can make her your queen afterwards.”
The castle wasn’t anywhere in sight when the bus stopped. Instead, they were greeted by lush hills, trees with low branches and flowers all around. The group was swiftly escorted to a bright red tram taking them to where they needed to go. Y/n had stopped her monologue a while ago, now purely focused on capturing her surroundings with her phone. Her wide-eyed fascination and adoration for the location was starting to rub off. For once, jokes and teasing were kept to a minimum, as all of them commented on the beautiful landscape in awe.
Soon the place around them started to change; first, a river and soon, an entire lake came into view. The sandstone building stood tall in the middle of the water, as swans chased the tram going into the open roundabout. A man who stood at the front of the main doors, dressed business casual, introduced himself as the castle's lead conservator and that he would be giving them the tour - or rather, lead them to their shooting location.
Walking in, the group was smacked in the face with history. Large beige columns and portraits of past rulers followed them into the main hall. The windows were framed by red curtains, pulled back to let in the light. The biggest intrusion in the room was the fact that it had been turned into a photoshoot. Large fabric covered lights and fixtures, and racks of outfit choices were being moved into place. A man at the far end was standing on a box giving orders to the crew. Seeing the band walk in he grinned, going over to their manager to start the process. The band knew what to do at this point, routine setting in as they followed the MUA who was currently waving them over.
Y/n fell back into her own routine, searching out a place to sit and work. Yet, as the three other band members obediently did their part, Damiano stole himself away, just for a second, he told himself, to check up on her.
“What are you working on?” Damiano asked, leaning over her shoulder to look at the laptop in her hands.
“Oh nothing important, can I get you anything? Need a snack, some water? I got a memo of where they are keeping stuff, so I can run if you need me to.”
Y/n didn’t even look away from what she was doing as she replied. Damiano raised a brow and wrapped his arms around her shoulders, burying his face into the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent. Just a little bit of comfort, a small feeling of home, before he had to go back to his job.
“I could help you, you know? Like, do you need anything, amore mio?”. He felt a chuckle run through her body. Yet, she still didn’t move. No proper reaction to the bodily contact, no affirmation or even acknowledgement from her side.
“No, Dami, I get you things, remember? That’s literally what they hired me for.” She briefly patted his arm, but it didn’t seem affectionate in the way he was craving.. “Come on, go get your face done so you can be a pretty boy for the camera. You’re going to get both of us in trouble with the make-up artists otherwise.”
He didn’t miss the way she shrugged him off. He had to fight the urge to roll his eyes as he walked over to the make-up artist, but the last thing he wanted was the others noticing his mood, or worse even, the rejection he felt. It was probably silly, but it hurt nonetheless. He wasn’t used to it. For the past four years, and probably even before that, people had all but fought to get the chance to go out with him. Most of them were dying to make it official, enjoying the arm candy that was the singer of a rock band. Normally, it was his call to take it slow, keep things private.
He was well aware that there was a lot at stake. There would be discussions on social media, paparazzi photos taken, articles written about them. But for once, he wanted it all. He didn’t care about anyone else’s opinion. He just wanted her all to himself and he was willing to let the rest of the world know.
Through the mirror, Damiano studied her. She was deep in thought, obviously concentrating on whatever she was doing, and all he could think about was kissing the little creases on her face, the wrinkles on her forehead from staring so hard down her laptop screen. What if she didn’t want the same? They had agreed on taking it slow. But they had barely agreed on what they were. Was this exclusive? Could he call himself her boyfriend? Say he was taken?
Y/n’s face seemed to light up as her phone rang. Damiano couldn’t help but notice it was her private one, not the work phone she usually used. Family maybe? Her best friend again? She answered immediately, the smile he was wishing he could have put on her face so wide it looked like her face was going to explode from happiness. She easily jumped up, laptop discarded on the chair, and with a giggle, she jogged off, quickly leaving the set, phone already against her ear. The uneasy feeling in his stomach wouldn’t settle.
***
“Danni, my love, it’s so good to hear from you!” Y/n beamed down the phone as she hid herself away in a quiet corner. Taking a private phone call on set was one thing, disturbing everyone with a conversation quiet another.
“Well how could I not after getting a message that my very favourite dance partner happens to be in the same city as me!”
She couldn’t hold the giggle in. This felt comfortable, a wave of nostalgia washing over her, and she found herself falling right back into the way they had always worked. It didn’t matter they barely talked anymore, both of them too busy with their own lives - her with university and work, him still coming out on top at all dance competitions - their bond was strong as ever.
“The good news is I’m indeed in Leeds. The bad one is it’s only for one night because we’re heading to Scotland tomorrow.”
“More than enough time to take you out dancing tonight! When are you free?”
“I should probably supervise the gig before I go,” Y/n admitted. She would love a night off, but the workaholic in her was not something she could easily turn off. She was well aware that she would not be able to relax until she had made sure the band was safely on stage, in their outfits and make-up, everything set up perfectly. “But I could set you up with guestlist if you want to have a look at the band before we go?”
“Free gig tickets and seeing you? Sign me right up!”
“I’ll make sure your name is on the list,” she giggled. “See you tonight, my love!”
When Y/n walked back on set, her mood had improved considerably. As much as she had grown to love the band, nothing would beat reconnecting with someone who knew you inside out in all your ups and downs the way Danni did.
***
Once back at the hotel.
Damiano couldn’t stop staring. When he had suggested she should knick some dark lipstick from Victoria, the kind that would make her lips look absolutely irresistible, he had sort of hoped it would be for his own benefit. Still, he could get used to this view. But then she had paired it with a shiny, velvety orange dress that exposed her legs. Wearing the boots from Amsterdam she stood straighter, taller. Before leaving informed them all that she would be leaving after the first couple of songs to go dancing, and Damiano felt like a puppy that had been dropped off at the pound.
The way she sashayed around the backstage area shouldn’t have bothered him so much, but her dress seemed to accentuate her every movement. He wanted to grab her, spin her around, feel her body against his, kiss her stupid, but none of this was for him. She was going out with Danni, lovely Danni, gorgeous Danni and he couldn’t stop thinking about the way they had danced together, the chemistry between them that had been so obvious even through the screen of her laptop.
“I can do two songs.”
Damiano looked up from whatever spot he had been fixating on when he heard her voice. She was in a friendly spat with Thomas, who was apparently trying to get her to stay longer than intended.
“You’ve got to stay until Coraline at least! It’s your favourite,” Thomas almost whined from his spot on the couch, fiddling with the hem of her dress as he looked up at her with puppy dog eyes. There wasn’t anything inherently flirty about the scene, but Damiano’s head once again went into overdrive. He was dying to touch her that way, tease her, play with her. Instead he was sitting in the corner with a scowl on his face.
“That’s like six songs in, Thomas!”
“So you don’t want to show your friend your favourite song?”
Something flickered across her face, just for a second. Damiano couldn’t help remembering the way she had talked about the song before, the way it was so close to her heart. The way it reminded her of times past and how she had gotten over it. Maybe it wasn’t something to relive, not with him, not with Danni. Maybe that was something just between the five of them. He hoped so. He wanted that little piece of her that was just them, just the band and her, not outsiders. He knew it was a stupid think to thing.
“Stop nagging me and get ready to go on stage. All of you!” She raised her voice now, looking across the room. “Your five minute call is going to come any second now, get ready!”
Everyone was quick to disperse, grabbing instruments and drum sticks as they made their way to the stage. Damiano wasn’t sure why he lingered, until Y/n’s eyes fell upon him for what felt like the first time that night. Now alone, she walked over to him, a smile on her face. She softly grabbed his face, pulling him towards her, leaving the softest kiss on his lips, obviously careful not to transfer any of her lipstick. Waiting a moment there just holding his face.
“Go out and kill ‘em, pretty boy.”
He did his best.
He did his best throughout Zitti e Buoni, throughout the nagging feeling of missing her presence backstage as she instead stood in the crowd with her friend. Watching the way she hugged him. He didn’t want to be jealous, he didn’t want to be that guy. But there was something in the way they interacted, a familiarity that he hadn’t achieved with her yet, and it sent his thoughts spiraling. He wondered if he would ever get to that level with her. If she would ever trust him, look at him the way she did at Danni. If he would ever get her the way the other man seemed to.
They left before Coraline and Damiano proceeded to play the angriest show he ever did. Lividi sui gomiti fully took everything out of him that he had, but he didn’t allow himself to collapse until they reached the hotel. The others were congratulating him, and themselves on a good show, one of the best maybe, but he knew Victoria could see right through him. The way she looked at him was enough.
For a moment, standing in the hallway, Damiano found himself staring at the door to Y/n’s room. He knew she wasn’t going to be there, but he longed to be inside nonetheless. Surrounded by everything that made her her, the way her scent immediately seemed to cling to every place she went, the way she organised her things, the way it was simply so uniquely Y/n. But she wasn’t there and he didn’t have a key and he had no idea when she’d be back, so his room would have to do.
Yet, lying in bed after a shower and the bare minimum of his nighttime routine, he found himself listening for any sound coming from the room next to him. Waiting for her to return. Waiting to know if he’d accompany her, spending the night laughing and talking and catching up. Waiting for her to fall into bed, her face in that perfectly relaxed state only he got to see when he woke up next to her. But sleep took him before a single noise reached his ears.
***
The boots might have been a bad idea, Y/n realised as she stumbled down the hallway of the hotel, but it wasn't like it mattered now. She wasn't quite sure what time it was, only that midnight had definitely passed. She had said goodbye to Danni at the last bar he had dragged her to, promising to meet up again soon and meet his boyfriend, promising to let less time pass until they would go dancing again.
Fumbling with the keycard, she let herself into the room, happy to remember that she had taken care of most of the packing already. But the room seemed empty, especially after spending the previous night in Damiano's arms. Once again, she checked her phone, seeing the message she had sent to him hours ago, asking if he'd gotten back to the hotel alright. But nothing else, nothing but two blue checkmarks telling her he'd definitely read it.
With a heavy sigh, she let herself fall onto her bed. She was aware that she still needed to change, take off her make-up, brush her teeth, but right now she simply needed to lie back and try not to worry. It didn't work. Some quick typing later, she had composed a message to Victoria.
"How was the gig? Get back alright?"
It only took a minute for her phone to light up with an answer.
"Don't pretend like you actually want to know about anything but how Dami is doing LOL."
Y/n let out a dry chuckle. Of course Victoria, out of all of them, would see right through her.
"Well, he isn't answering my text and it's my job to know if everyone is alright," she texted back.
"Suuuuuure. Anyway. He's not been in the best mood. Think he was a little jealous of the way you dressed up for your friend."
Staring at the ceiling, Y/n tried to relive the evening before she left. Damiano's little glances, but the lack of happiness in his eyes. How he seemed to be aware of her at all times, yet keeping his distance. Even the kiss goodbye was grey and bland in her memory. Fuck. Quickly grabbing her phone again, she sent another text to Vic.
"Want to help with an idea I have?"

Identifying UK’s top digital marketing agency in 2023
Identifying UK’s top digital marketing agency in 2023
Finding it challenging to know where to begin your search for a digital marketing agency UK? Rest assured that you are not alone in feeling this way in searching for a good digital marketing agency near me. It is anticipated that by 2023, over 100,000 companies in the UK will use digital marketing services. There’s no shortage of digital marketing agency London, so choosing one might be difficult.
Determining your company’s demands and selecting the digital marketing agency in Birmingham that can best deliver on those needs is the key to finding UK’s top digital marketing agency. How can you tell which advertising firms know what they are doing as opposed to those whose expertise is solely in making a good pitch?
The UK is home to a large number of digital marketing firms. One distinct form of agency among them is the one that provides profile defenders services, while others have money and privileges. What does it say about your company if your digital marketing agency in Bristol is more concerned with bringing you out to lunch than selling to you? A lot, I am afraid.
A reliable SEO agency (business) Rossendale is possible

How to perform essential digital marketing practices?
If your Google searches in the UK are filled with the best digital marketing company near me, then you are at the right place for your research. An effective digital marketing practice consists of the following factors: –
Search engine optimization (SEO): – Digital marketing agency Nottingham and every other digital marketing company in UK ensures to increase online traffic by improving the website ranking on SERP.
Content marketing: – It involves creating unique content to generate traffic and conversions from targeted audiences by answering their questions and addressing their queries.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC):- Pay-per-click advertising agencies use this service where the advertiser only pays for the ads when a person clicks on them. The digital marketing services Hertfordshire has used this ideally.

How is digital marketing effective for small businesses?
With the best digital marketing agency, small businesses can also experience the perks of becoming prominent and successful. Every digital marketing agency in Leeds, Manchester, and other cities in the UK focuses on multiple aspects to let small businesses grow and compete well. Some of those aspects are: –
Branding: – Digital marketing agency Nottingham focuses on how a company is heard, seen, or felt among its users as an essential growth aspect.
Content and design: – Every digital marketing agency UK finds content strategies, text, design, page layout, etc., essential to keep customers hooked.
Web and SEO Services: – Just like others in the UK,Leeds digital marketing agency focuses on having a professional website that represents your business and makes it rank high on SERP.
Social Media and digital marketing:- Every digital marketing agency in Liverpool believes that having a good social presence is the best way to brand building. “Strategic planning and effective execution will make you stand out from the crowd,” said Birmingham digital marketing agency.
What’s the best way to sum up a digital marketing firm?
When a firm lacks in-house knowledge in a wide range of marketing services, it can turn to a digital marketing agency UK (SkyTrust) to fill the gaps. post ffh-fic
He heard the shouting of civilians beneath the lamp post he was perched on as his world fell apart. For all of his superhero abilities, he could not block out the array of accusations and curses of snarling New Yorkers. The city was his home. For years, he had protected his neighborhood, nearly died for it, too, and in one foul swoop Quentin Beck had planted a seed of distrust that bloomed in an instant.
His heartrate spiked violently. He felt like he might pass out.
“People will believe anything these days. You’ll see,” Beck had said, as he lay dying. He did not understand, then, what the illusion master meant. He had chalked it up to the incoherent ramblings of a dying man. He should have been more vigilant.
Everything was ruined. His entire life. His friends and family were now open season. Ned. May. MJ.
MJ.
Peter fretfully looked down in the crowd. MJ was being rustled about, as people scrambled to corner him around the lamp post, to do what he could not even guess, and he felt the odd flash of fury at his girlfriend being treated like a ragdoll. She looked petrified, but not for her own safety. Her eyes were wide and beseeching up at him.
“EDITH,” he said, calling on the AI that had, inadvertently, fired the first shot that ruined his entire life.
“Yes, Peter?” the robotic voice clicked.
“Find the safest place to hide. Now.”
Before he threw himself down into the waiting hands of angry New Yorkers, Edith chirped, “Searching for a safe place to hide.” Once his feet hit the concrete, people were grabbing at him, ripping at his new costume with their nails. He had super strength, it was true, but it still hurt. He muscled through the pain with gritted teeth as he made his way through the crowd and to MJ.
She tripped into his arms, linking her arms securely around his neck, easily, and without a word of warning, he webbed the pair of them up and out of the crowd. The growing mob shouted in displeasure, but he paid them no mind. He muffled beneath his mask, “Are you okay?”
Michelle burrowed her face in his neck, to shield herself from the wind and he suspected the embarrassment of showing her emotions, and nodded. “Are you?” she countered.
He couldn’t even begin to consider how he felt about everything that had just unceremoniously fallen to pieces. He had finally accepted the fact that he was an Avenger and the true responsibility of the charge Tony left behind. He had survived his European disaster of his trip. He had kissed the girl that he liked and, miraculously, she liked him back. He was not prepared to be an outlaw or vigilante.
He was sixteen years old, for crying out loud. He felt his breath fall him. Michelle must have felt it, too, because she held him tighter and began to whisper “It’s okay” over the whipping wind.
Peter barely succeeded in pushing aside all of his mounting anxiety and dutifully followed E.D.I.T.H’s instructions to the letter to find the safest, most secure place to hide. With MJ in his arms, he could not fall apart. Especially not hundreds of stories up in the air.
When he landed on the rooftop of an unfamiliar, inconspicuous New York City skyscraper, he paused. “EDITH, are you sure this is the right place?” he asked.
The AI robotically replied, “Yes.” There, splashed across the door that led back down into the beast of the building, was Stark Industries logo in chipped paint. Michelle unwound herself from his embrace and tentatively crossed to the entrance. He yanked his mask off, sucking in some fresh air. “Peter,” she whispered, brushing her hand across the logo.
“I don’t know,” he replied. He had never been to this building before. It had been a secret home to the Avengers, he had never been given an invitation.
The door creaked open, like it had been unused for years and years and years, perhaps even before the blip, and the pair of them walked inside, down winding steps, but not before Michelle locked the door behind them with a heavy bolt.
The top floor was a dusty workspace surrounded on all sides by glass. Fluorescent lights flickered on. No, it was not a workspace, it was a lab. It looked like one of Tony’s labs. There were half-forgotten Iron-Man designs scattered around the room and, on the main desk in the center of the room, was one of his webshooters, cracked open like maybe Tony had been engineering it.
Then, FRIDAY sparked to life with a quiet, “Hello, Peter.”
His knees gave out. Michelle caught him around the middle as he fell and the two of them slowly found the floor. “FRIDAY,” he croaked.
“How can I help you today, sir?”
Peter could not talk, he could not even begin to wrap his brain around the events of the afternoon. The world knew his name. Peter Parker was not safe, which meant May Parker and Ned Leeds and Happy Hogan and Michelle Jones were not safe. He had made them all liabilities because he loved them.
He remembered earlier that week when Peter had posted a picture of him and MJ on Instagram. It was from the night after they returned from Europe. He had taken her to get sandwiches from Delmar and she had been wearing her broken-but-preferred-that-way necklace. After, they had gone for a quiet walk around the city and, when the night was over, she kissed him.
The picture was damning evidence of what she meant to him. He did not even want to think about how many people had already seen that picture on his Instagram. There would be no shielding her from all of his chaos.
He felt her press reassuring kisses to the side of his head.
Tears prickled at the corner of his eyes and he croaked, “I’m so sorry.”
“You didn’t do anything wrong,” she insisted.
He looked down at his open hands. He could see his red gloves and his webshooters. Symbols of everything he was, or had been. He wanted to tear his suit from his body, but he could not find the strength to stand. Peter was immobile on the floor.
“You didn’t,” MJ whispered, again. “You didn’t do anything wrong, Peter.” She turned his blank eyes toward her fierce ones. “We’ll explain. Mysterio lied. I was there. You saved us all.”
“People will believe anything these days.”
Michelle brushed her fingertips across his cheeks. Her eyes were unfathomably sad. “Peter.”
“You’ll see,” he said, mirroring Beck. “He told me, MJ. He as good as told me he was going to do this and I-I didn’t listen. I could have—” he broke off, in a hoarse sob.
“Its going to be okay,” Michelle kissed the top of his head, as he folded himself into her welcome, gentle arms.
But Michelle always told the truth, especially when it was hardest to hear. So, as she struggled to reassure the both of them that everything would be okay, even she didn’t sound like she believed it.
