Fic Writer's Showcase Game
I was tagged by @there-must-be-a-lock - thanks!
Rules: Go to your published works on AO3 and list the first fic you ever published there, the last fic you published, any fic that you wrote for a fandom/ship only once, your favorite fic you wrote in the fandom/ship that has the most works, the fic you wish more people read, the fic you agonized over the most, the fic that sprang fully formed from your mind without any effort, and a work you are proud of—for whatever reason. <3
First Fic: Full Circle
So, this is how I got into writing fanfic. Someone on a non-fandom message board I was on was a big fan of fanfiction, and I thought, "Wow, I haven't thought about fanfiction since my X-Files days! I wonder what it's like now?" I went to FFN (this was pre-AO3) and the top fandom was Pirates of the Caribbean, which I didn't know much about, and I think the second top was High School Musical, and the third was X-Men. So I read some X-Men stories, especially Wolverine/Rogue, and one of them was a very compelling story about pregnancy loss which ended with a very ambivalent ending -- basically, a phone ringing and you don't know if the character will pick up. My friends, I COULD NOT SLEEP. I had experienced a pregnancy loss in the prior year, and I *had* to write a happy ending to this story. In retrospect, it was the RUDEST thing but I was new to fandom and I didn't know anything. I wrote it in an email and then eventually sent it to the author like a cat dropping a dead mouse in her lap, and she was very kind and encouraged me to post it. And that was ::checks notes:: at least a decade ago. Yikes.
Last Fic:
Chrome-Plated Heart Technically a WIP but it's all completed and is just posting twice a week until it's done. A Winterhawk Marvel Pacific Rim AU.
One-Hit Fandom:
Hope
I am kind of a serial fandom monogamist and once I'm in a fandom I tend to linger for a few years, so I only have one one-off in the Cabin Pressure fandom and it's more of a ficlet. A little Douglas Richardson & Martin Crieff cutscene from St. Petersburg. I don't even know their portmanteau!
Favorite Fic in the Fandom with the Most Works:
Lucky in Love
Wow, I had to check but I'm actually now tied for fandoms -- Marvel and Teen Wolf both have 18 fics each. So, I'll go with Marvel, and Lucky in Love, my first Winterhawk fic. I think it's rare to write a fic and then not want to change much about it a few years down the road, but I still reread this one from time to time and I still really like it! Fic I Wish More People Read:
Quriosity
Hmmm. It seems greedy to say so because it got a great reception, both within the 00Q fandom and just objectively in terms of number of hits, etc., but I feel like there's not as much crossover between the Bond fandoms and others I'm in, so if there's one fic of mine I would encourage people to take a chance and try if they know me from Marvel or Teen Wolf fandoms it's this one. There's a lot of fics in my repertoire that have themes of touch starvation / touch aversion but this one is the mostest.
Fic I Agonized Over the Most:
Freedom's Reach
I'm tempted to say the current fic I'm writing (my selkie!Bucky MTH2022 fic) but I think that's just a tendency to think whatever you're writing now is putting up the hardest fight. Freedom's Reach is my Winterhawk historical AU (e.g. American Civil War era) with mail order bride, and I don't know what I was thinking to write 1.) Inherently uneven power dynamic, which is something I typically dislike 2.) In an era I know nothing about 3.) Requiring frequent misunderstandings which I typically dislike. My poor beta @kangofu-cb is a saint for all the whining and self-doubt she had to put up with as I wondered whether I was walking all those lines.
Fic that Sprang Fully Formed: For Everything There is a Season
So, Google tells me that the Four Seasons Total Landscaping debacle happened on November 7th, 2020, which means that within the week I had started posting this fic, and I'm pretty sure I wrote it in one evening. What can I say, I was inspired to think of ... Pierce ... and his ... Restore America's Glory supporters ... getting a pile of manure dumped on him. Go figure.
Proud of for Whatever Reason:
Pretty When You Cry
I am NOT good at writing short, capture-a-pivotal-moment-and-let-it-speak-for-itself fics. As the length of this post attests, I am a prototypical ADHD overexplainer. This fic managed to be short and sweet and intensely smutty but with all the feels somehow crammed in. And then, to overexplain, I had to do a second chapter from the other POV but I like how (to me at least) it doesn't feel repetitive or boring; it's the same events and dialogue but the internal narrative is so different it's still interesting. So, yeah, smutty little feels fic with Winterhawk failing a one-night-stand, check it out. I think between nox and lou most of the Winterhawk regulars already got tagged, so I'm tagging outside the fandom or people I haven't caught up with in awhile so, um ... @flamingo-queen-writes , @drunktuesdays , @pantstomatch, @shatteredhourglass, @1000-directions ... and anyone who wants to do this; I haven't been online for a bit so I'm sure I missed a bunch!

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
Big thanks to @mycupofrum and @lovelymasks for tagging me!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
29, though all but one are 500-word microfics so it's not that impressive.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
17,377... which is pretty on-par, given the above.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
At the moment, I'm only actively writing and posting Harry Potter fics, though I've written more widely in the past, for many and varied fandoms. Most of it went unpublished, though.
4. Top 5 fics by kudos?
All but one are oneshot microfics, and all are Prongfoot, of course. None of them have done big numbers, but I cherish every little heart!
this universe of you and me (we'll make ourselves inevitable) [45]
10. Diamond [41]
21. Deprive [25]
22. Lineage [22]
10. Hope [22]
5. Do you respond to comments?
Every comment! I might take a while, depending on how things are going for me, but I don't get a lot so the ones I have are extra-precious. As a commenter, I love it when the author responds so I know I'm not annoying them with my comment, so that's a factor, too.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Um... I guess the second bonus epilogue to 05. North? Since it leads into the canon path for Sirius, which is, as we know, not his best possible timeline.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I'm going to go with 16. Cultivate, because it's just kid!Prongsfoot and strongly-implied mutual crushes and nothing bad happens to them after this, okay?? we can pretend, dammit
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No, though that's probably due to audience size + wordcount, so not much room to offend or people to be offended. Silver linings!
9. Do you write smut?
Yes! But none that I've published. It's good enough for me, but I don't know if anyone else would like it, and then: Self doubt! Preemptive cringe! And I don't post it.
10. Do you write crossovers?
Not in a "characters from Thing A meet characters from Thing B" way, but I've done some yet-to-be-published microfics that take HP characters (mostly James and Sirius, obviously) and put them in other settings, like Madoka Magica or Pacific Rim. So... Yes, I guess?
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge! Honestly, I think I'd be kind of flattered that anyone would consider my writing worth stealing.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not to my knowledge! Although, like the above, it'd be very flattering if it ever happened.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not unless prose-style roleplaying counts as fanfiction! I'd be interested in trying it, but I have no idea how it would go.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
James/Sirius, Sirius/James, Prongsfoot, Bambibelle, by any other name, they're my overall favorite ship with 99.9% certainty.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
... Anything that's more than a oneshot, yes. It's so much easier to imagine the perfect fic and watch it play out like a mind-movie rather than hauling it out of my brainpan like a deep-sea fisherman wrestling a trophy marlin onto dry land, all typed and edited and posted despite second/third/more thoughts.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I like descriptions and scene-setting and lore/worldbuilding, and I've been told that I'm pretty decent at this, so I'd say those? The fact that I've written a lot of microfics without any dialogue whatsoever probably says a lot.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Dialogue! Especially in HP, because the intricacies of British English and years of seeing British/Commonwealth opinions on Americans failing to write British characters (in fanfiction, specifically) has me too anxious to try. I have so many modern Prongsfoot ideas that I can't bring myself to attempt due to this, leaving them to rot like fallen leaves in the orchard of my imagination. More generally, I'm terrible at longfics or anything that requires extended effort because the number of spoons I have is variable but usually rounds up to "too few." Then I feel bad because I haven't been writing, etc etc, which is why I've only published microfics.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
I don't have any problem with it if it fits; I got really into Poe in middle school and he loves throwing in random non-English quotes without translating it, so I can't begrudge anyone who does it now. I only speak/write in English so that's the language my fics are in.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Pokemon. It was based on my first-ever playthrough of Pokemon Blue, but with the "Red" MC replaced by a pseudo-self-insert who spent most of the fic disguised as a boy/her own deceased twin brother whose soul was somehow inside of her for... some reason. (Note: I don't have a twin brother.) I wouldn't learn what fanfiction was for at least a few more years, but I'm pretty sure that was my first.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
I once did a novelization of an obscure JRPG that rewrote huge chunks of the game, improved characterization, closed plot holes and fixed the terrible English translation, as well as expanding the world and lore. It had an actual physical folder dedicated to all my notes and I had plans for an even bigger sequel. Sadly, I only posted the first chapter before my computer died and I lost everything on it (back up your work, kids!), and I subsequently lost most of my notes in a move. I'm not sure if this is a subconscious contributor to why I've only written short-form things since then, but I have fond if wistful feelings about it anyway-- Like my fanfic lost Lenore.

Note
mervol odd numbers 👀
What originally drew me to it? oh, you're asking me this question taylor? huh? you?
well i'll FUCKING tell you. one day an unnamed, mysterious friend of mine said "hey jemi wandavision would make a great phantom manor au" and promptly sent me spiraling into this hell from which there is no escape. fuck you.
no but fr i wasn't interested in marvel at all until i decided to watch wandavision to try and scratch the phantom manor hyperfixation itch and now i'm here forever.
A character I want to carry around in a little jar and study like a bug loki, obviously. if someone's answer to this isn't loki, i'm concerned about them.
bonus fandom subspecies answers: angry tony stark fans, wanda stans, people who can't let go of endgame, people who are somehow still unfathomably mad about she-hulk
The character who gives me the greatest gender envy i'm cis :pensive: but if i had to answer: sylvie and okoye
A character who feels like home my beloved wamda <3
vision also by proxy
The character I'd most enjoy feeding to a pride of ravenous lions uhhhhh hayward i guess. fuck that guy
A ship that makes me want to look into the camera like I'm on The Office people who ship wanda and stephen i am so sorry but to me they give off the profound energy of a ship that would have a billverly it chapter 2 kiss where they go in for it, linger a sec and then pull back with a mutual ".......yeah i got nothing"
The non-canon pairing I find the most intriguing i was about to say most of my ships are canon but then i remembered jen/monica :) i hope the writer of that one fic knows how much they changed my life
A character/story arc that bores me to tears whatever the fuck was going on with the american government in wakanda forever so they could shoehorn some white people into the story
The line of dialogue I quote most often its past midnight and there is so much mcu please don't make me answer this
Crossovers/AUs that pique my interest one day i will sit down and somehow share the elaborate pacific rim au where wanda and loki have a raleigh and mako arc AND THEN YOU'LL ALL SEE
also like everything we've rped ever. obviously.

Major Players in this Report Include are:
Bridgestone Corporation (Japan)
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (United States)
Continental AG (Germany)
Michelin (France)
Sumitomo Rubber Industries (Japan)
Apollo Tyres Ltd (India)

JK Tyre & INDUSTRIES LTD. (India)
Market Drivers: The Rising Demand for Commercial and passenger vehicles
Rising Growth in sales of sports utility vehicles (SUVs), crossover utility vehicles (CUVs), and pick-up trucks
Market Trend: Growing demand for Retreading of Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) tires
Opportunities: Increasing demand for the high-performance tires
The Global Automotive Tires- Market segments and Market Data Break Down by Type (Radial, Bias), Vehicle (Passenger Vehicle, Commercial Vehicle, Electric vehicle), Carcass Materials (Nylon, Rayon’s, Steel Belted), Type (Radial, Bias), Rim Size (Less Than 15 Inches, 15 to 20 Inches, More than 20 Inches), Sales Channel (OEM, After Market), Season (Winter, Summer, All-season)
Geographically World Automotive Tires- markets can be classified as North America, Europe, Asia Pacific (APAC), Middle East and Africa and Latin America. North America has gained a leading position in the global market and is expected to remain in place for years to come. Tag Game TIme!
I was tagged by the very lovely @moorishflower and @softest-punk (within like an hour of each other - I got the hint!) so I thought this could be fun to do!
Favorite Color: Purple!!  Pretty much all shades of it.  With a shout out to like, anything that sparkles, because I am a glitter person and have zero shame about it.
Currently Reading: The urge to say, “The entire Dreamling tag” is strong here.  But!  I re-read American Gods by Neil Gaiman recently because I adore that book and strongly recommend it for anyone that hasn’t.
Last Song: Die Young by Kesha
Last Movie: Omg I went on a movie binge recently. National Treasure, Pacific Rim, Matilda, Cinderella Story, Drumline and Belle in some sort of order!
Sweet/Savory/Spicy: Uhhhhhh.  Cheddar cheese rules?  (I’m a picky eater and it shows sometimes, like with questions like this!)
Currently Working On: I am convinced that @moorishflower and I are kindred spirits because uh, well.  I have the Feral Hob Fic I just started posting, I have the Nightmaric Catharsis Fic with Eldritch Dream sex to write, I have the SECOND Shadowhunters/Sandman crossover I’m writing that is 35k+, I have the Beard Kink (and Shaving) fic, I have the Dragon Rider AU (which will be a NaNo fic), the Touch Starved fic featuring Meowpheus, and then the Life Model Hob/Artist Dream fic.
Tagging @darthstitch, @nanaboslim, @magnusbae and @cuubism because I wanna see some answers! (If you want, of course!)

Rules: tag 9 people you want to know get to know better
I was tagged by @nossbean and I’ve been on my feet for one reason or another all day (because I have become a character from the Molly books from the American Girls series and I’m holding down the homefront etc) so it’ll be nice to sit down and write a few words about ME. Ahem.
Top three ships:
Brienne/Jaime. I thought it might be a momentary hyperfixation last summer and... it has not. (Looks down at Tarth crest tank top, over at Brienne funko pop, grimaces awkwardly)
Luke/Mara. The original and the one that probably ruined me for shipping because it became canon years and years later. (Also, arguably, technically teh same ship as JB, but that’s for another post)
I’m gonna switch it up on the third one and go with Amaya/Janai from The Dragon Prince. Minor, yes, background, sure, but I want to know their entire life story now please and thank you.
Lipstick or chapstick: I honestly cannot live without chap stick. Ever since a few rotten months on Accutane in high school I cannot deal with dry skin and especially not with dry lips. I have chap sticks EVERYWHERE so there’s always one within reach when I need it. One day I hope to finish one before losing it or accidentally putting it through the wash because it was in my pocket.
THAT BEING SAID my Lipstick Journey has been enlightening since I started fooling around with makeup and online tutorials. My problem is that my skin, and especially my lips, somehow turns literally anything I put on it slightly pink. So I’ve gone ten rounds trying to get something that will actually stay red. And I found one! I even wore it to Disneyland so I know it’s tough! Aaaaand then less than a week later we got the shelter-in-place order and while part of me thought I’d just go apeshit doing weird makeup every day because why not it turns out that’s not where my energy is going right now.
Last song: Uhhhh spousal unit was just playing a compilation of every time someone sings in B99, does that count? Oh and I was listening to the Mean Girls musical the other day. Outside of that... pretty much Pandora stations (classical for kid school time, Hawaiian for calm and relaxed, Sad Bastard Shit for everything else)
Last movie: Disney’s Three Musketeers. I’ve had a hell of a time focusing long enough to watch an entire movie (so far this, Pacific Rim, and Into the Spider Verse are the only ones I’ve managed) but this work of 1990s genius really did the trick. Chris O’Donnel’s questionable hairdo! Charlie Sheen as the religious Musketeer! Good guys with American accents, bad guys with British accents, and the one person with a French accent is I think supposed to be Austrian! TIM MOTHERFUCKING CURRY AS DARTH RICHELIEU. Hell. Yes.
Reading: I’m (finally, shut up) listening to the Game of Thrones audiobook while I sew face masks. Hot take: it’s really good. I think I like it more than I would have if it was my introduction to the canon-- it’s way more fun going “OH SHIT THAT’S FORESHADOWING” plus I have some idea when I should skip a chapter. Also there’s something about an old British dude narrating that takes the squick out of some of it-- I thought it might make them worse, but it comes across so clinical that it’s almost funny. I’m still skipping any chapter with a Bolton, do not @ me.
I’m also in the middle of A Duke in Disguise by Cat Sebastian, and it’s super fun. I don’t love this series as much as her Turner Series, but the first installment has a nonbinary lead which was incredible.
And I’m always reading at least one fic on my phone at any given time. I just finished yet another re-read of Two Halves of a Soul, a high school soulmate AU that I love even though I’m usually not big into either of those tropes, as well as The Seven Who Are One because yes please add an extra helping of mythology into canonverse thank you. I haven’t been in a mood to start anything new lately, though the main exception to that is of course possess the power by the delightful @nossbean because JB THOR CROSSOVER PEOPLE. ::flails forever:: Just flash the Robin Signal next time, it’ll be faster.
Three random things that make me happy:
That B99 clip where Jake plays a guitar and just starts screaming
Looking over to see my lightsaber hilt and remembering the incredible experience I had at Savi’s Workshop at Galaxy’s Edge hoooooly crap I can’t believe that was less than a week before... all of this.
Slightly melty peppermint ice cream
Tagging: whoever hasn’t been tagged yet!

Fifty years ago, Japan’s Kaiju Boom was at its peak, with Ultraman and Ultraseven on TV and films from four of the country’s five major studios in the theaters: Toho’s Son of Godzilla and King Kong Escapes, Daiei’s Gamera vs. Gyaos, Nikkatsu’s Gappa, and Shochiku’s The X from Outer Space. Wouldn’t you know it, in 2017 there were five kaiju movies and two Ultraman shows too, as the transnational Kaiju Boom rolled on with no end in sight. Let’s take a look back at all that transpired.
1) Kong is King
If cinematic universes are the future, then the world’s greatest kaiju are lucky to have Legendary Pictures in charge of theirs. Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island, the second entry in the MonsterVerse started by Godzilla in 2014, hit theaters during a busy March to rave reviews and respectable box office. Packed with monsters, helicopters, talented actors, and 70′s hits, it kept the action contained on the giant ape’s home; a restrained blockbuster by today’s standards. If the film’s post-credit scene ate up the conversational oxygen a bit too much, well, that’s the price you pay for teasing Godzilla, Rodan, Ghidorah, and Mothra in one scene.
But that wasn’t all for the Eighth Wonder of the World this year. BOOM! Studios’ Kong of Skull Island comic concluded with its twelfth issues. It was succeeded by a one-shot, Kong: Gods of Skull Island, and a strangely apt Planet of the Apes crossover, still being published. Legendary got in on the act too with Skull Island: Birth of Kong, a prequel/sequel to the film.
I have proposed a moratorium on Kong titles with “Skull Island” in them. Unfortunately, this confusing trend is set to continue, with Jonathan Penner and Stacy Title currently writing a King Kong Skull Island TV show for MarVista Entertainment and IM Global Television.
2) Godzilla is King of the Whole Stinking World, What Now
Another year, another new Godzilla movie. It’s been a while since we could say that, hasn’t it? Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, the first in an animated trilogy by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, was released in Japanese theaters this November. A worldwide Netflix release will follow on January 17th. The next two are coming this year, presumably so Toho can atone for not releasing one in 2015. Godzilla: The City Mechanized for the Final Battle (or however it’s ultimately translated), due in May, will feature the return of Mechagodzilla.
Shin Godzilla, meanwhile, made kaiju history earlier in the year, becoming the first film in the genre to win Picture of the Year at the Japan Academy Awards. (It also netted prizes in six other categories.) On the American side of things, Legendary finally started filming Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2020) found a director in Adam Wingard.
On the home video front, Shin Godzilla hit DVD and Blu-ray around the world, and Criterion picked up the rights to almost every film in the Showa series, plus Rodan and The War of the Gargantuas. Physical releases have yet to be announced -- they’re currently streaming on Filmstruck -- but seem inevitable.
3) Sturm Organs, Chaiyo Vanquished, and the Phantom Channel
I could have made this post the 2017 Ultraman Year in Review without changing the format of the photoset one bit, although the tone would have been a shade more bitter.
Ultraman Geed, starring the son of arch-villain Belial, ran for 25 episodes. Ultraman Zero and his mild-mannered salaryman host Leito ended up stealing the show. (It also gave us the phrase “Sturm organs,” which I never want to read again.) Cruchyroll, as is tradition now, announced it was simulcasting Geed about eight seconds before the first episode aired.
Ultraman Orb: The Origin Saga, the prequel to last year’s series, concluded on Amazon Prime Video in Japan. A promised English release never worked out, although the fansubbers picked up the slack.
Ultraman Orb the Movie arrived in Japanese theaters on March 10. It wasn’t very good, but Ultraseven made a hell of an entrance.
Keeping the Orb train rolling, the 24-minute Ultra Orb Fight aired over the course of eight episodes of Ultraman Zero: The Chronicle, another one of Tsuburaya‘s compilation shows.
Ultraman X the Movie and Ultraman Ginga S the Movie played in a handful of American theaters, with English dubbing from William Winkler Productions. Winkler also dubbed the three Zero movies this year; no word on when they’ll be released, nor what happened to the physical/digital releases of the X and Ginga S movies.
Tsuburaya Productions uploaded scores of Ultra Fight episodes to its YouTube channel. Unfortunately, no subtitles were provided; the show’s narration was significantly more intensive than Redman screaming attack names.
Toku, a ludicrously obscure on-demand channel, picked up the rights to a ton of Ultra shows, most of them without official releases in the U.S. -- Leo, 80, The Ultraman, Neos, Nexus, an English dub of Max, Ultraseven X, both seasons of Mega Monster Battle, and Neo Ultra Q. No one has recorded any of them. The channel is affiliated with Amazon Prime, but only 80 (free on Crunchyroll) and Neos (already fansubbed) are available through it. go90 also has Neos and Ultraseven X (also already fansubbed).
In November, Tsuburaya finally regained the international distribution rights to the first six Ultra Series from UM Corporation, setting the stage for more abrupt Crunchyroll additions in 2018 and beyond. Before the ruling came down, UM licensed Ultraman to a Chinese company, BlueArc Culture Communications, for three years. Dragon Force: So Long, Ultraman was released in Chinese theaters in October. I thought this ruling would make it rather difficult to see, but, uh, it’s on YouTube already.
The Ultraman manga by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi reached Volume 11 in Japan, with a 3DCG film adaptation by Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts due in 2019.
4) She is Colossal
Director Nacho Vigalondo and Voltage Pictures survived a Toho lawsuit to bring us a bizarre tale of alcoholics in an upstate New York town who have the ability to summon and control giant beings in Seoul under very specific circumstances. Kaiju are often metaphors for issues that are accordingly massive in scope, like nuclear warfare or environmental devastation. Here they embody more personal problems -- not a totally novel concept, but one handled with far more depth than, say, Ultraman 80. The movie was a thud at the box office (the producers apparently ordered an upgrade to the VFX after rave festival reviews), but will hopefully find a second life on Hulu.
5) What Do You Find Between a Dragon’s Teeth?
Based on a 2014 short, The Dragon Dentist is an anime film (well, a two-part TV special that’s 90 minutes long) in which dragons and humans have reached an unusual agreement: the humans clean the dragons’ teeth, and the dragon rain down destruction on their enemies. If that sounds strange, well, it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Unless Planet of the Monsters pulls off a miracle, it has my vote for best kaiju movie of 2017. Section23 released it on Blu-ray in October with an English dub included.
6) A Jaeger is You Times a Thousand
Pacific Rim Uprising, the sequel that refused to die, is mere months from release, and its trailer made a big splash at New York Comic Con this year. Mysteries abound about the plot, but we have details on an art book, prequel novel, prequel comic, novelization, and plenty of toys. (Still waiting on that tabletop RPG and the return of the Create-a-Jaeger site.)
7) Reddo Continuation, and Other Printed Works
IDW may be finished with Godzilla, but Matt Frank is far from finished with kaiju comics. He sold The Last Hope, his Heisei Gamera prequel doujinshi, at G-Fest this year, and announced in October that he would be writing and drawing a comic about Redman, the murderous Seventies “hero” of recent YouTube fame. Phase 6, the same company reprinting Godzilla: Rulers of Earth in Japan, is the publisher. Other kaiju comics this year: Season 3 of Xander Cannon’s always-excellent Kaijumax (which I need to finish reading), Greg Pak’s Mech Cadet Yu (which I need to start), and Marvel’s crossover event/miniseries Monsters Unleashed (which I am too intimidated to start).
And in the realm of prose: Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski published their long-anticipated Ishiro Honda biography, providing a comprehensive look at the legendary kaiju director’s life and career. Raffael Coronelli threw his hat into the authors’ ring with Daikaiju Yuki and Y2K: Yuki Conquers the World, post-apocalyptic epics about the Pantheon Colossi and the human heroes who join with them to protect the world.
Oh, and some guy named Michael Callari announced he was writing a book on the Gamera series.
8) Every Monster Has a Country
The movie-mockers of Mystery Science Theater 3000 have been linked with giant monsters since the beginning, and this year’s Netflix revival saw them taking on two more: Reptilicus and Yongary, Monster from the Deep. The former led off the season, and the novelty of a monster from Denmark led to one of the show’s greatest songs.
9) In Memoriam
As I wrote in August, “Monsters, of course, live forever. The people who bring them to life are never so lucky.” 2017 saw the passing of four giants of the kaiju genre:
Haruo Nakajima (b. 1929) -- Suit actor and fight choreographer for Godzilla and countless other Toho/Tsuburaya monsters from 1954 to 1972.
Yoshimitsu Banno (b. 1931) -- Director and co-writer of the Godzilla vs. Hedorah, assistant director and co-writer of Prophecies of Nostradamus, executive producer of Godzilla (2014).
Yoshio Tsuchiya (b. 1927) -- Eccentric actor with a long tokusatsu filmography, including the titular role in The Human Vapor, the Xian Leader in Invasion of Astro-Monster, and Shindo in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.
Chikara Hashimoto (b. 1933) -- Suit actor for Daimajin in Daiei’s trilogy and Daimon in Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare.

THIS. MAKES ME. SAD.
CAUSE I LOVE THIS AU/CROSSOVER SO MUCH BUT I JUST FUCKING CAN’T DO A THING WITH IT CAUSE I AM SHIT. THAT'S WHY.
Ok so this is a Pacific Rim!AU in which Gilbert was a Jaeger pilot along with Ivan, but one day Ivan pushed too hard on him and he got a panic/anger attack and, well, let’s say he punched the Jaeger cabin with the Jaeger itself. He got the worst part, losing his right eye and most parts of the right half of his body heavy compromised and ofc he got institutionalized cause THAT’S NOT OK M8.  When his younger brother, Ludwig, turned 18 he passed all the medical and physical training to become Ranger and basically convinced everybody to make his brother a pilot again. Together they ride EISERNES SCHUTZER, the new but sturdy German Jaeger. Ivan, on the other hand, is now half of the strange but effective Ruso-American Team that pilots COMRADE FREEDOM along with Alfred F Jones. His brother, Matthew, is the Marine Biologist that helps them categorize Kaijuus that appear at bay.
Last but not least, there is Marshal Arthur Kirkland, ex-Ranger of EXCALIBUR KING with his brother William. And, not pictured here, his right-hand would be no other than Ramesh, a mathematician and physicist head of the team whose job is predicting Kaijuu’s movements and appearances as soon as possible. OFC cause this is ME, he took a liking in the rebellious and narcissistic German one-eyed pilot.
... I’d pay someone to write this fic for me cause I just love it too much fuck my laifu

TOP 25 FICS OF 2017
1. A Somaal Universe by @kaikamahine | Steven Universe | 7.5k
Connie flips over the next card. “'Most likely to -’” She reads out loud, and then dissolves into laughter and has to start over, propping the card up on her bump. “'Most likely to freak out when you go into labor and break the speed limit getting to the hospital?’”
“Pearl,” Amethyst and Jasper say in unison.
Heather Says: It was really difficult to choose between this and Favor For Your Four-Chambered Heart as favorite Elizabeth fic for the year, but in the end this one won out because it was one of the first fics this year that made me well and truly happy.
2. The home front by aesc | Stargate Atlantis | 10k
“This had better be the Sheppard residence,” Rodney says, brilliant, agitated life and volume against a monotonous day and Dave’s subdued welcome, “because I’ve been driving around for hours and if I ever find the woman who did the voice on my GPS system I’m going to personally amputate her vocal cords.”
Heather Says: I read this in the pool, precariously balanced on the top step with my body angled weirdly so that I wasn’t holding my phone over the water. I started it before I got in the pool, of course, but I couldn’t put it on hold long enough to swim, so I finished it in the water.
3. Junk Cheap by DevilDoll | Stargate Atlantis | 13.5k
If you were thinking you’d love to read an AU where Rodney is a college professor and John owns a junk shop, this is the story for you.
Heather Says: This might be my favorite SGA fic that I found this year, which is funny since going into the fandom I would have told you that I’d prefer to read fics set in canon. I mean, c’mon. Atlantis? Why would I want to read anything set anywhere else? But this fic perfectly captured John’s lazy personality and Rodney’s crotchety... everything. It’s fabulous.
4. Unidentified by fiercelydreamed | Stargate Atlantis | 30k
Fourteen years, eight months, and seven days after John and Rodney meet, the clock starts all over again.
Heather Says: I’m not typically one for the amnesia trope. I’ve found some good fic for it, but most of the time either the angst or the second-hand embarrassment gets me too hard and I end up exiting out of the fic. This fic was intricate and engaging and introduces a Rodney just off-center from the Rodney that we know.
5. Black Helicopters at Dawn by whizzy | Stargate Atlantis | 240k
Screw the bet. Rodney was going to prove the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence. Oh, and incidentally, he might just catch the United States Air Force with their pants around their ankles.
Heather Says: This fic is long. And beautiful, and sad, and kind of a lot. Also if you’re like me you’ll have to find the third part of it on some weird, sort of sketchy website that hopefully didn’t give you viruses. Or if you’re really desperate you can ask me to send you a copy since I think I still have it somewhere.
6. Like a Lightning Strike by miss_aphelion | Hannibal | 71k
In a world where omegas are instant celebrities and treated like royalty, Will just wants to be left alone. So he keeps what he is a secret, managing to avoid the spotlight and the restrictions that come with it for nearly twenty years.
Then a case goes wrong, and his secrets start to unravel before the entire world—and even more worrying, it happens in front of Hannibal, the alpha that was already fascinated with him before he knew what he was.
Heather Says: Okay, so remember how I said I wasn’t crazy about the amnesia trope? I am really not crazy about the A/B/O trope. Done well enough it’s intriguing, but I read a really awful one way back in the day that basically scarred me for life. That said, this fic came along and hooked me hard. It hasn’t been updated since April, which is disappointing, but it’s well worth the read, even unfinished.
7. Lord, Save Me from Your Followers by anamatics | Supergirl | 27k
Kara, perhaps out of a want for thoroughness in her story, perhaps out of a Millennial-born urge to creep on a the social media of a woman she finds intriguing, discovers that Lena Luthor has a pretty active following on Instagram one afternoon not long after their first meeting. She debates it, just for a moment, before following Lena.
Heather Says: Don’t watch Supergirl? That’s fine! Technically I’ve only seen a couple episodes myself! Read this anyway! This fic has that perfect realness to it that I’ve only found in a very select group of fics and it has cute girls kissing to boot.
8. hood & glove by @fahye | Yuri On Ice | 12k
“I don’t mess with the fae,” Otabek says.
"I'm not asking you to mess with them," JJ flat-out lies.
Heather Says: I’ve tried to say things about this three times now. There are fairies. Otabek is a hero. The king of the fairies fell in love with a human and the weather is fucked up. And there is some truly spectacular art within.
  9. With Fire in Their Eyes by @asukaskerian | Yuri On Ice | 8k
He lands butterfly-light in a swirl of hair and glittering gauze, and the ceiling crashes to the rink all around him.
His ears are ringing with heartbeats, his efforts, the cries of the crowd. The rink wobbles under him -- must have landed a bit wrong but he can work through it. Only there are things strewn all over the ice; people usually know to wait until the end to throw roses and tokens and --
Not applause. Screams. The light is wrong because a fourth of the ceiling projectors are missing. The sky is dark. No stars. Something gleams behind the broken sky. And moves. Something he can't -- won't -- something.
Something that's looking at him.
Heather Says: It’s a Pacific Rim/Yuri On Ice crossover. What more could you want?
10. What We Pretend We Can’t See by @gyzym | Harry Potter | 131 k
Seven years out from the war, Harry learns the hard truth of old history: it’s never quite as far behind you as you thought.
Heather Says: I’ve been a fan of gyzym’s stuff since way back in 2009? 2010? Whatever year it was, it was on livejournal back when Inception was a thing. So when I got the notification that she wrote something new? And that the new thing she’d written was 130k of Draco/Harry? I was over the moon.
11. No Less Unthinkable by @rageprufrock | Yuri On Ice | 79k
In which Katsuki Yuuri fights a losing battle with chronic anxiety, the quadruple Salchow, and his own judgment four drinks in — but wins the war.
Heather Says: I’ve been affectionately dubbing this fic the slutty Yuuri picture show, because damn. The porn itself is exquisitely written, yes, but more than that is the way Yuuri himself is written. That realness that I was talking about above is very prominent here too.
12. Slithering by @astolat | Harry Potter | 27k
Draco found the nest down in the Manor’s cellars, while he was clearing them out.
Heather Says: I have a weakness for fics with snakes, okay.
13. Hermione Granger’s Hogwarts Crammer for Delinquents on the Run by @waspabi | Harry Potter | 93k
'You’re a wizard, Harry’ is easier to hear from a half-giant when you’re eleven, rather than from some kids on a tube platform when you’re seventeen and late for work.
Heather Says: In addition to just being really fucking great all around, the soundtrack to this fic lead me to some of the best music that I’ve listened to this year.
14. the king of oak by @picqueries | Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them | 38k
The first thing Percival Graves does after being released back into the world is buy a new wand. He's at Greymalkin's for ten minutes and the only wand that works for him is raw aspen, whiter than bone and so rough that Graves gives himself a splinter conjuring a storm of birds. The wand—dragon heartstring, a most unusual wand for an American wizard, according to a flustered Greymalkin—feels wild, and Graves empties half his wallet on the counter and keeps his hand on his new wand all the way home.
The second thing he does is quit his job, because honestly.
("Grindelwald did his research before he put on your face," Seraphina says reasonably. "And it's not like you're open with your personal life. He has us all fooled."
"He wore scorpion stickpins!" Graves shoots back, somewhat less reasonably.
Seraphina looks at Graves, his pressed creases, his immaculate shirt, the red ruby cufflinks he's wearing to hide the starved brittleness of his wrists. "I'm sorry," she says. It is not enough to make him stay.)
The third thing he does is get jumped by Credence Barebone in an alley.
Heather Says: Okay, okay, okay. But. Wizards are descended from fairies. Should I say it again for those in the back? Wizards are descended from fairies. Honestly, even if this fic had been horribly written I’d be hooked just on that concept alone. Fortunately it’s written beautifully, and is a complete work of art.
15. apocrypha by aerynlallaboso | Dishonored | 97k
The Eighth year of the reign of Empress Emily Kaldwin, First of her Name, the second year without a whisper from the Outsider, is the year the Void chooses to mark the end of an era.
Heather Says: This wasn’t the first Dishonored fic that I read, but it was the first one I’d read that was longer than 5k, and I was just so goddamned pleased with everything about it.
16. A Year In Toussaint by @astolat | The Witcher | 30k
Geralt had no damn idea what to do with a vineyard when Anna Henrietta gave him Corvo Bianco, but he figured it couldn’t be that bad.
Heather Says: Between the Stargate Atlantis and Harry Potter, I read a lot of astolat’s fic this year. I’d noticed that she’d been writing fic for the Witcher, but didn’t much care because I never really played the games. But I was bored one day, so I read one of her Witcher fics. Then another. And another. And then I went out and bought the games. This one is my favorite.
17. wild peaches by @notbecauseofvictories | The Labyrinth | 3.5k
The morning after Sarah Williams defeats the Goblin King, she gets up and makes toast.
Heather Says: The feel of this fic is basically what I want out of everything that I read for the rest of my life. Just the right amount of magic, but eerie and timeless. I have read this fic at least five times since it was published and will probably go on to read it another five times next year.
18. where the weeds take root by @beenghosting | Supernatural | 30k
“Are you happy? Y’know. Just—being here,” Dean says, gesturing to the yard with his beer bottle. “Being with—I mean, you used to fight in celestial wars and—and save the world. Now you’re growing vegetables and talking about chickens.”
Heather Says: I really adore slice of life fic, especially when it’s an after-the-war-is-over sort of thing rather than just some fluffy AU that the characters have been stuffed into. I haven’t touched anything Supernatural related in years, not because I didn’t love the characters, but because the show was on this slowly creeping spiral downwards, and I just couldn’t. This though, feels like a very organic end for my two favorites, so thank you for giving me closure.
19. Heart and Home by lc2l | Les Mis | 97k
In an alternate Paris, werewolves occupy the majority of the ruling classes, making and adjusting policy to suit their interests. The punishments for a human attacking a werewolf can be brutal, unless they have the protection of a wolf pack.
How this translates to ‘claim Grantaire as your mate to get him out of prison’ is something Enjolras is still trying to get his head around, but he’s never been one to give up on a cause even when it’s sleeping on his sofa.
Heather Says: I, like many other people, watched the movie adaptation of Les Mis several years ago. My ex-girlfriend liked the play, but I’d never seen it. Loved the movie. Loved the play, once I got around to seeing it. But until this was recommended to me by a dear friend, I never once thought of it in the context of fandom. And werewolves!
20. World Ain’t Ready by idiopathicsmile | Les Mis | 185k
Enjolras presses his lips together. He already looks pained, and Grantaire hasn’t even opened his mouth yet. That’s got to be a record, even for them.
“I need a favor,” he says at last.
"With what?" says Grantaire. "Ooh, are you forming a cult? Can I join? I'd be awesome at cults, I just know it." He ticks off his qualifications on his fingers. "I love chanting, I look great in robes—"
Heather Says: The thing about high school AUs that no one ever tells you is that as you grow up, one of two things happens. Either the high school AU in question triggers a massive influx of nostalgia that basically cripples you emotionally or it has you cringing away from the screen, groping blindly until you can ex out of the tab. I’m happy to say that this one is more of the former.
21. despite what you’ve been told by @caseyvalhalla | Yuri On Ice | 14k
When Victor falls, he goes down hard.
Heather Says: All I wanted out of the Yuri On Ice fandom was a good, long in-depth look at the inside of Victor’s brain. This is the fic where I got it.
22. these things take time by sonhoedesrazao | Les Mis | 63k
He’s always wary of making assumptions; even more so when Grantaire is concerned. He knows he’s not the easiest person to deal with. People either like him or can’t stand him, and it’s easy to respond to those reactions, but Grantaire—Grantaire is hostile and mocking, Grantaire scorns his beliefs, and Grantaire stays.
Heather Says: This fic soothed my soul during a particular rough patch this year. There are dates and misunderstandings and some pretty intense UST and it’s just wonderful all around.
23. Watercast by @fishwrites | Voltron | 113k
Shiro has been a Galra prisoner for over a year; with his flight feathers clipped and unable to fly. Desperate to escape, he jumps overboard while being transported to the capitol on a Galran ship. Lance is a merman who saves him from drowning. Keith thinks Shiro is about to become mermaid dinner. Hunk just wants Lance to stop going to the surface all the time, dammit!
Heather Says: When the most recent chapter of this came out, I ended up going back and rereading it, because I was on the beach, and it seemed like a really good time to read about mermen and flying bird people and I am just. So excited for this fic all over again.
24. Fifteen Men in September by ballantine | Black Sails | 34k
Fifteen men on the dead man’s chest Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum! Drink and the devil had done for the rest Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!
A Black Sails origin story for the song.
Heather Says: I stopped watching Black Sails after the end of season one, because there was a lot of things that we were watching at the time, and it was the one to get cut. I don’t even remember how this fic got recced to me, but I’m thrilled that it did because it’s made me go back and keep watching.
25. Patience on a Monument by betts | Game of Thrones | 21k
Having a Jaime in your life means living in a soap opera, except you can’t DVR it to watch later, and the main character sometimes ends up in your guest bedroom for an undisclosed period of time because he has a woefully codependent relationship with his sister.
Heather Says: It’s. So. Good.

For the fic ask: 3, 21, 23, and 24 please 😊
3) favorite line/scene you wrote this year
Ay, I’ve spent too long thinking about this already. I’m going to go with the teahouse scene from Ch. 3 of Ghost. There was a lot of thought that went into dreaming up the place, but after that point, the scene unfolded itself for me in a really satisfying way. There’s a lot of important opening threads there and a lot of writing I’m pleased with.
21) most memorable comment/review
I cannot say enough nice things about this crew of people who show up to comment on Ghost - the level of engagement, particularly relative to the modest hit count, is incredible (there are more comment threads on Ghost than on Hatari now, with 1/6 the hits). There’s so many that I’ve come back to and made me smile. So it’s kind of a toss up, but I came back around to this one from AliFyre, because of the way it addresses the resonance of the setting in highly specific ways:
Yeah from my point of view, you’re really nailing the setting aspect of it in a way I rarely see. Many fics treat the places they’re set as an afterthought, and I don’t know, maybe because I can think “oh! I’ve been there! I know some of the history of that areas! ” for some of the parts of the city you mention, I find myself very sucked into the time and place you have established. I find myself frustrated that a lot that fics are “set in New York” just because they want a big American city and don’t actually treat New York for what it is, so this is super refreshing. While it may not be a story _about_ the importance of queer spaces, as a queer person I can say I think that most any queer person would find that scene resonating because we all know how important those spaces are. For me, much like the treatment of the city, scenes like that, as well as the scene in the bathroom, are just so resonant with the queer experience that it makes the whole fic seem that much more real. I also think it does set a strong foundation for readers to be invested in these two for when the plot thickens and conflict comes their way.
23) fics you wanted to write but didn’t
Things that exist as notes or incompletes: Pre-Ghost adventures of Lilia/Minako in Imperial SPB, part 2 of Yurimetal, a very silly fic about Otabek becoming friends with Bjork, the rest of the Room at the Table one-shots.
And one of these days I’m going to write that Sense8/Brat crossover fic ;)ETA: how did I forget about the sun/mun/capheus/zakia foursome I've been threatening since s2 dropped?!?
24) favorite fic you read this year
sooo many thiiiings. I’m having trouble nailing one down, but it’s probably a weird YOI AU. Limiting it to completed works, here’s a short list of ones that stuck with me:
The Invisible Ones ( @worldofcopperwings ) - Scandinavian folklore/urban fantasy AU
No Storm Can Venture There ( @spelon-berry ) - Pacific Rim AU
Love In Exile ( @martymusesloveinexile ) - Russo-Japanese War Era AU
Lucky Seven ( @onotherflights ) Punk Band AU
AUs aside, @kiazareni ‘s  Watch the Young Hearts Fade is probably up there too, along with vivavoce’s it’s the life we’re living now ETA: Shit, @boxwineconfession‘s  Heart Break Beat was also this year. That’s definitely up there, too. In an oblique way, Ghost may not have happened if it weren’t for that one, because it got me thinking about gritty, working class Otayuri. So there’s that.

Hey as someone who wants to know more about Kamen Rider, cause I see it all the time, how does one get into it, like where to start
Oh! Each series is basically self contained, so you can start from literally any series based on the vibe you want.
For background, Kamen Rider is a long-running Japanese superhero franchise made of multiple series that features a masked hero with a motorcycle (kamen - mask, rider - rider; the motorcycle isn’t usually emphasized per se, but iirc that’s the origin of the name and it’s why Literally Every Rider Will Have A Motorcycle). Each series features a different main character, setting, and plot, with fairly minimal references to other series except for crossover events.
I can’t say much about stuff I haven’t watched, but here’s a rundown of the riders I’ve seen so far in the order I’ve watched them in:
Fourze
space friendship! My favorite series! This is probably the most lighthearted of the riders, and it features a friendship delinquent - gentaro - whose goal is to make even more friends. And he does! And they’re all great! It takes place in a parody of american high school. The soundtrack is very space synth.
W (also called ‘Double’)
hardboiled detective noir! Except it’s more ‘softboiled’ - as tryhard as shoutaro is, he just cares too much about people to do the stoic and cool thing, and he tends to get carried away trying to maintain his (nonexistent) image. He’s tempered by his partner phillip, who’s a hyperfocus weirdo that basically contains the knowledge of everything in the universe as long as he has the right keywords to look up. Both of them make one rider. It’s like pacific rim, except the jaeger is a guy. This is more of the traditional kamen rider atmosphere, I think, because people die more. Also some of these mysteries have legit good twists. Also Akiko is there, she’s unapologetically loud, sometimes she gets pissed and whacks monsters with her slipper, I love her. Very jazzy ost. Also, the ‘previously on’ section is like…. really well formatted!
OOO (pronounced oh-z)
ok so one of my mutuals (the one who got me into fourze) tags this series as ‘weekend at bernies bird edition’ and that’s…. pretty accurate. eiji is a drifter with a good heart who gets wrapped up babysitting this ancient entity named ankh that possessed a guy on the brink of death. Also fighting the manifestation of people’s greed. ankh is what’s keeping the guy alive, but he has his own agenda, and also the almost-dead-guy’s sister - hina - gets herself involved. this series has a lighthearted tone, but kind of a morose vibe, if that makes sense. Gotou has one of my favorite character arcs!
Build
the current series! It’s not done so I can’t say much about it, but the main character is a physicist, probably, but he doesn’t know because he has amnesia. I’m not really sure what’s going on because most rider series take place in japan, but this series takes place in japan, but after something that was brought from mars catastrophically separates japan into three distinct city-states on account of the giant glowing wall borders that happened. There’s a lot of emphasis on like…. human experimentation, which is looping into a ‘DONT FUCKING TRUST THE GOVERNMENT’ vibe, which honestly, mood.
it’s done now so I’m gonna say: I love build. sento & banjo can’t go too long without having a heartfelt monologue & montage about how much they mean to each other and that’s valid.
Ghost
starts off with takeru dying on his 18th birthday! the protag uses ghosts of ‘heroes’ - major historical/folklore figures including houdini, robin hood, goemon, etc. - to fight against other ghosts. the ensemble cast is mostly used as comedy relief, but there are poignant moments of development and pathos - Alain’s character arc is very well written. imo it’s one of the weaker series plot/writing-wise, but it’s a lot of fun!
Wizard
I put it around Ghost-level writing. Overall I find it tepid, yet enjoyable; it definitely does pick up in the latter half of the series. Also, Wizard has like……. my number one favorite character. The premise is that Haruto, a wizard, goes around saving people from despair so that they don’t turn into phantoms (because when phantoms take over a host, the host dies). Honestly…. I can’t say any more…… I just want to talk about Nitou…… he’s the secondary rider who shows up about 20 episodes in and he’s a showboating dumbass. I love him.
Gaim
I hate it!
Den-O
time demon tries to make a contract with an endearing guy who just so happens to be the unluckiest most hapless rube that exists. sara’s tag for den-o is something like ‘four demons and their timeshare dweeb’ and that’s basically the best description for the show. it’s fun! it’s really fun! it’s just a really funny show with incredible comedic shenanigans super strong characters, and when it hits those serious moments, it hits hard. the time travel doesn’t always make sense and there’s a bit of surprising writing choices because one of the actresses had to drop out, but if you’re prepared to Let Den-O Into Your Heart… You Won’t Regret It
Drive
cop show about fighting against robots. I don’t think the writing’s good, but drive has like… some of the best comedy in kamen rider, plus some of the best weapon designs. there’s also some really good characters in drive (like Chase) but the writing’s just… not good to women or robots. I wouldn’t un-watch it; when drive’s good it’s good! but when it’s bad it’s. bad.
Ex-Aid
kamen rider doctor gamer. exaid’s a mess, but after the first few episodes it turns into a pretty fun mess imo. for the first five episodes, each episode feels like it should be three times longer than they actually are, but when it hits its stride it’s just… pretty cool! they’re doctors. they’re gamers. someone tries to become god. there’s something about the ending that really ticks me off, but overall I enjoyed myself a lot - there’s a bunch of solid faves in the exaid cast.
WITH THAT BEING OUTLINED, the only thing that gets confusing, imo, is when it comes to movies. If I remember right, this is how it goes:
-new kamen rider is introduced in the last movie of the previous rider’s series; just establishing look & mechanics, not necessary to watch, just go ahead and start the series instead of watching this
-crossover movie with previous riders - happens early-ish in the series around the 15th ep, time is generally split evenly between the riders with independent-yet-interconnected plots; you can basically skip to the rider you’re interested
-sometimes a crossover movie with the concurrent sentai series; more emphasis is put on sentai, I think??? takes place around ep 25????
-FEATURE FILM ABOUT THE RIDER STARING THE RIDER FEATURING THE RIDER which happens around ep 45 - also introduces next rider as a cameo, iirc???
-other crossover movies that happen after the series
SO YEAH, LOTS OF MOVIES. you can basically watch ‘em at your discretion.
One more note: since Kamen Rider’s been going on for like, almost 50 years, there’s a bunch of series & they’re broken down into 3 sections - showa (the really old), heisei phase 1 (2000s era), and heisei phase 2 (current stuff, but I think this phase is ending soon?). The first three shows I’ve talked about are the first three shows of heisei 2, SO IF YOU WOULD RATHER GO BY ORDER OR SMTH, you can go W, OOO, Fourze, and continue on with heisei 2 (also known as neo-heisei) if you want. If you want more info on heisei 1 or showa, there’s def people out there who know way more than me!
