Merilwen outlives her friends.
So before my hands took me out of the picture and before the last season of the Oxventurers' Guild, this is what I was working on!
In my mind, I was caught up on how much longer elves live, and how Merilwen being a true neutral has led to her making some pretty bloodthirsty decisions. What kind of person could that develop into, if left all alone for centuries, I wonder?

I have a terrible habit of putting projects on hold at 85% - 90% completion, but this being the last season of Oxventure with this particular group of doofi lit a fire under my ass to finish my cross stitch and get it sent. I still need to mount and frame this so hopefully I don't choke and stop doing anything for another 8 months

MERRY CHRISTMAS ONCE AGAIN! The idea of "Oxventure greeting cards" came into my mind at D&D, and so the marathon sprint began. Thanks a million to @the-last-teabender for helping me come up with captions for these.

Lego Oxventure - Merilwen's Meatgrinder!
Tumblr media
Ahead of the Quiet Riot post, I needed to spotlight such an iconic moment, not just of the first season, but of the entire series. The wholesale slaughter enabled by grease and spike growth was something to behold.

Here me out: Oxventure guild, but make it deadlands.
Corazon de Toro, a infamous outlaw running from his old band. Don't ask him about his past, ask him about his adventures! Did you know he...!
Merilwen, looking for the monster that took down her dear friend. She's going to make them pay, just you watch.
Dob, a travelling musician working local fairs, fayres and fares to keep an eye and ear out for his long lost sister.
Prudence, maybe she's making deals with a long lost ancient evil to keep up her lifestyle, what it to you!
Egbert the travelling priest who wants to tell you the good word. What do you mean I can do weird things, thats the power of God and not a strange dragon demon he accidently made a pact with. Demon's don't exist, silly!
(I may have doodled the opposite, Deadlands as Oxventure Guild if any one want's me to digitise those)

2024 Preliminaries — Oxventure
Propaganda
Corazón de Ballena:
Overconfident pirate who is actually kinda insecure but hides it behind a façade of smugness and carelessness. Kinda trans coded (he had a name that he doesn't use anymore and a shitty father who refuses to use the new name), went from being pretty selfish and egoistic to [SPOILER] literally sacrificing himself to save his friend's life
Dob:
Dob enjoys throwing all his gold (and that of his party) into lakes - fuck capitalism, am i right?? he has a thing for evil women that want to (and easily could) kill him and often comes up with less than perfect plans (his party member have made t-shirts that say: "Don't be a Dob!")
Egbert:
Most of his ideas involve bombs (and are fitting for a character with -1 Wisdom). He is constantly trying to convert people to his faith (purple sky cow god) and doesn't believe in ghosts even though they are demonstrably real in his world. He also has a pet seal called Seal Gaiman
Merilwen:
Even though she's nominally True Neutral, she has committed if not the most, then certainly the most memorable war crimes compared to the rest of her party. To this day, we remember Merilwen's Meatgrinder and Merilwen's Microwave. Also, she loves animals, puns, and is often the most sensible person around
Prudence:
She's kinda evil in a fun way, very confident, such a good character <3

Here's a health to the pirates, the druids, the bards, and to all the companions who make hard times less hard. To warlocks and paladins and all of our pets, and to all of the friends we haven't yet met. A health to Friendship and Adventure we share, and to all of our loved ones who show us they care.
going to miss these guys so much i actually bought a canvas and painted for the first time in years (TヮT)
i tried my hand at a Claire Keane-esque art style, 'cause i felt the whimsy and joyfulness of it fit the oxventurers really well (o˘◡˘o) hope you all like it! (´。• ᵕ •。`) ♡ (also, this scan doesn't capture it, but this piece is so sparkly irl!!! i mixed glittery gold/silver paint in basically every colour and it looks so magical!!!)

Finally watched the Oxventure finale (depression was acting up so i kept putting it off) and wow what an ending! Really like how much everyone got to flex throughout the adventure, everyone got a load of funny moments that really landed well. Immensely satisfied with the weird place that everyone ended on, just love it all the way through. Here's to the next thing!
Side note: I watched Oxventure sort of at random after having been recommended all sorts of DnD actual plays I never clicked with. I had been subscribed to the OX folks and I knew that I found them funny so I figured maybe this would be the one I would wind up liking. Incredibly I was right, somehow this was the first, and kind of only one that actually stuck with me (except maybe Drawga and Drawtectives but I sort of don't count those in the same vein as like, critical role). The breathless pace of each episode having to begin and end in such a short amount of time and the baffling comedic nonsense of it all resonated with me in a way a lot of the more 'structured' stuff never really did, I guess. I quote so much of its ridiculous lines so regularly I almost forget where I even got them from.
I understand on some level why it never took off in the way that other DnD actual plays do; it's a bizarre, often consequence-free, comedy focused gore-fest that regularly disregards the rules and has characters who routinely ruin everything for everyone. If you aren't prepared to match its pace then it will just read as strange and nonsensical, but I for one wouldn't change any aspect of it for the world. It occupies a weird little niche that I happen to sit in, and for as much as I see people suggest it change into a more traditional actual-play, I really don't think I would have appreciated it as much if it had. I mean, a more traditional actual play wouldn't have ended with the world eating big boss being torn to pieces by 18 level 6 moonbeams that they only got because of a years old stupid running joke. Or have a long aside where the dragon man accidentally generates the Mushroom queen who he just kind of... doesn't really give a shit about and then turns into a koala. You just don't get stuff like that from other actual plays. There's nothing else like it and i'm sad to wave it goodbye.
