Okay so I counted the total number of notes on all of my posts and came to a grand total of:
839?!?!?
Oh. My. Goodness.
Thank you ALL so so so much!!!!!!! I'm having a mini freakout over here!!!!!
-------------------------------
The MFE pilots and Atlas crew know Shiro as "Captain," or "Takashi" at the friendliest.
They view him as a superior, someone to respect.
Which probably explains why they're so confused about his closeness with the paladins.
Colleen will be speaking to her child about motherly things, and suddenly Shiro will walk over and ruffle Pidge's hair.
Or Veronica will be lecturing Lance about doing something stupid (The other traitorous paladins snuck off and mouthed their thanks towards him for 'taking one for the group.') and suddenly Lance will call out. "Hey Shiro!" before bro-hugging him.
They finally ask about it one day in the lounge when the majority of the Atlas crew and the paladins -even Keith- are all just chilling after a long battle.
Shiro is watching the paladins (read: Keith, Lance, and Pidge) play each other aggressively on the gaming console that Pidge apparently installed into the ship.
Shiro goes to grab them snacks because he's awesome like that.
When he hands said snacks to the three gamers, they all chorus, "Thanks, Spacedad," creepily in sync.
Everyone turns immediately in shock.
Of course, they had already figured out that the members of Voltron are very close with Shiro, but not that close.
Sam Holt feels slightly replaced.
"What is going on? Where is your military hierarchy?" Griffin pipes up.
Shiro is not AT ALL fond of Griffin. Yes, Keith did let the first punch fly when they got into that fight at the Garrison all those years ago, but Shiro will hold a grudge against anyone who dares hurt his baby physically or verbally (and James did both!) and therefore believes that Keith was at least 80% justified in his act of aggression.
WOW, that was a long sentence.
So when Shiro responds as neutrally as possible, it's with a slightly upturned nose and a dignified tone of superiority.
"I gave up trying to stop them a LONG while ago. I've come to terms with it."
Hunk walks in at that moment.
"Hey guys! Are we talking about Shiro's nickname? 'Cuz we gave him a shirt with 'Spacedad' written across it in sparkly letters last year for his birthday that I particularly like."
The other 3 paladins present nod mindlessly as they continue to battle each other virtually.
Shiro gives everyone a look that says, 'See? Totally normal.'
"It's the only way I can keep them in line. They threaten each other saying that they'll call their 'dad' which is me if you haven't figured that out yet somehow, and it actually works most of the time."
Lance snorts. "Yup. Spacedad's gotta do what a Spacedad's gotta do."
Shiro gives him a look.
"Okay I might have to smack you with a pillow for that one."
Lance squeals and wraps his arms around Keith for protection, causing the boy to startle and drop his own controller.
Pidge finally pulls ahead and wins. They jump up and crow out victoriously, "YES! In your FACES you crap-eating WEBLUM FACES."
Keith groaned and leaned back into Lance's chest (because Lance is tryna be sneaky and is therefore taking this as his chance to trap Keith securely in his arms).
"I blame this on you, Spacedad. I have to let Lance and Pidge braid my hair now."
------
I just added Spacedad to my computer's dictionary so that it would stop trying to spellcheck me. This is how you know that I'm truly way too into Voltron. Oh, well.

DID SOMEONE SAY FIC RECS? (Somewhat) niche, canonverse fics below as requested! I tried to stay under 10K hits, so y'all please make sure to give these fics some extra love. Though I will say that some of these are written by pretty well known klance authors!
1. Who Won? by sleapea
Pining | G | 2K
Lance grips his bayard, and it transforms into a long, Altean broadsword. A sword.
Keith gapes, and Lance smirks, advancing on him with a low laugh and a swing of his bayard. The swing is steady and practiced, and Keith thanks the stars for muscle memory as he manages to block in time. He falters slightly, still stunned, and Lance hums.
“Surprised?” Lance grins at him, and a violent blush spreads up Keith’s neck.
2. hey mom, i met a boy by disasteralex
Post-Canon | T+ | 16.5K
“Do you think you can love two people at once?”
“I think you can love different people for different reasons but in equal ways. But that doesn’t mean any of those loves are lesser than the rest.”
The war was hard. Its end is even harder. But when Lance breaks, Keith and the others are there to help him heal.
Somewhere along the way, Keith finds his place in the universe, Shiro gets his happy ending, and Lance learns to fall in love again.
3. Ruby Heart by infinitesongbird
Pining | T+ | 12.2K
While on a mission to the planet Mora, Lance and Keith find themselves in an alarming predicament when Lance touches an alien flower. The predicament in question: They can hear each other's thoughts now - every thought, no matter how passing or involuntary, broadcasted for the other to hear. And the real kicker? It's irreversible.
Will this bond bring them closer together, or will it be the thing to finally destroy their already strained relationship?
4. running with your eyes closed by perfchan
Post S5 | M | 36.5K
Being lost versus feeling lost. Remembering versus imagining. Time
When a solo mission for the Blade takes an unexpected turn, Keith is left stranded. When Voltron’s alliance with Lotor and Shiro’s strange behavior have mixed everything up, Lance is left wondering where he fits into this new team dynamic. This is a complicated story about time and space and fighting and persevering, and the simplicity of connection.
5. Stay, Don't be Busy by Cakepopple
Post-Canon | T+ | 2.2K
Keith's back on Earth after a mission with the Blades, and Lance half expects him not to visit. But of course he does. He always does.
6. you mark everything i do by orphan_account
Established Relationship | T+ | 6K
Some people do ridiculous things when they're in love, like trip over nothing and faceplant into the pie they're holding, or get tattoos of each other's names in tacky hearts on their arms.
Lance and Keith get each other's paladin symbols tattooed over their hearts.
7. Two Truths and One Lie by miraculousstorytelling
Implied Relationship | G | 2.2K
While half of the team is out on a supply run, Lance suggests the remaining team play a game to pass the time.
8. Through Time and Space by Hidden_Pineapple
Comfort | G | 4.4K
We all know Lance is homesick. But what happens when Pidge figures out how to make an accurate calendar of earth? Lance realizes just how much he’s missed. And even then, its only the tip of the iceberg. (...)
9. scattered stars by Crawlingthroughashes
Pining | Not Rated | 1.7K
Lance wore his heart on his threadbare sleeve, visible for the perusal of wandering eyes.
Keith, on the other hand, kept his heart carefully concealed beneath skin that was stretched too tight and bones that felt too heavy for his body.
10. Into the Shadows by iybms
RP/BP dynamics | T+ | 712
A joint BoM/Voltron mission has gone just a little bit wrong, leaving Keith and Lance alone, hiding.
Hope you like some of these op & anyone else looking for niche recs!

I'm trying SO HARD to be positive about s7. There were a lot of genuinely good things (hunk, the first 3 episodes, the animation, hunk, seeing paladins' families, hunk, sam holt, hunk) but the bad things (most of the 2nd half, forced allurance, forced keith x acxa, killing off half of the lgbt rep after being promised more) is just SO BAD that they're hard to ignore. there's still 13 more episodes for lm and jds to turn things around, but idk, i'm just really conflicted rn :(
Hey there!
I completely agree with you. Hunk was undoubtedly the MVP of this season and that boy deserves it! It really sucks that a lot of people are calling the whole season bad and are advising others not to watch it. As a LGBTQ+ member, I completely understand the importance of having representation and why people are feeling so hurt by what the writers advocated they would show.
And that I believe is the whole problem. The creators of the show focused on the wrong elements when it came to promoting this season. If they had promoted Hunk, Earth and the other characters related to the Paladins, then I don’t think there would have been such a huge commotion. It’s the fact that they brought up Adam, revealed Shiro to be gay, and continuously bring Klance in all their promotional materials - they’re stringing us along and giving us false hopes.
This is something that I cannot forgive and it saddens me so much.
I don’t know how many of you know about Sterek (Stiles/Derek from Teen Wolf), but the creator and writers did the EXACT SAME thing where they pushed Sterek so hard in all their promotional materials and baited the fandom so hard only to neglect and insult us in the end. It was so horrible and it’s something that I can’t forget nor forgive. Sterek used to be one of my main ships but now I can’t even look at them because of how they were treated.
I really don’t want Klance to end up the same way because I love them way too much. I can understand if the creators don’t want Klance to be canon. But they should stop baiting us with them, or using paralleling scenes with them within the show. This season alone there were so many parallels to the first season and I can’t help but wonder what they were trying to get at.
If there’s anything that I want as of right now, then it’s for Klance to be friends / respectful teammates. I really don’t like Keith’s attitude towards Lance. I understand he’s been away for a long time, but this is not what I expected from. Just go back to Season 3 and look at how these two interacted. I would have thought those moments would at least mean something to them.
Which now I think about it, I think they do for Lance. Lance opened up to Keith about his insecurities. Out of everyone, he was pushing for Keith to take on the leadership role and not run away or lash out when things get hairy. But rather, own up to your mistakes and keep trying harder. And Keith listened to him and took up on those pieces of advice. He did do better and you know what? Given the way he used to behave in the past, Keith was making progress. He was learning how to do better and be better. He was learning that it takes more to save the universe than blasting away at some evil ships. You need to change mentalities for the better and that’s what Lance offered.
I’m getting carried away here but I guess the point I’m trying to make is that Klance’s canon history thus far have to mean something otherwise what was the point of showing it at all?
It’s like once Keith left, Klance sort of got lost... and now that he’s back it just doesn’t know how to work / move forward. Which to me, makes no sense at all since there is SO much that could have been done with them.
Season 3 = Lance was Keith’s right hand man and was constantly pushing him to do / be better.
Season 4 - 5 = Keith and Lance are on their own separate journeys. Keith is gaining a lot of answers and is shedding away a lot of his anger / insecurities. Lance on the other hand is falling into a pit of despair and his insecurities are stacking up.
Season 6 = Keith comes back, fully realized and ready to be the leader Voltron needs. Lance sees this is and is a) happy for Keith while also b) questioning his own progress.
Season 7 = They’re going back home. Keith has never seen Lance be more excited. They both share their stories and the new moves they have learned. They find out about Galra invading Earth and Lance feels even more shit because he thinks they were too late and is constantly questioning his spot as a defender. Keith gives him a pep talk like he did with Hunk. Lance is a little more optimized because hearing these words coming from Keith, a man whom he has learned to admire and respect so much means a lot.
Season 8 = TBA
Like honestly. I’m not asking for much. Just show Keith respecting Lance as a teammate and friend.
This already super long but I’m gonna roll with it.
I’m holding out on Allurance and Kacxa because to me there is no indication of them being canon.
The Allurance scene: Lance has always been there for Allura whenever it came to facing tough missions or emotional difficulties. To me, I see this as a really strong friendship. If I’m going on a mission that would possibly kill me, I too would take the opportunity to see a goodbye to my best friend. I know Lance has always liked Allura and it could be counted as being romantic but it’s not how I saw it when looking at it from Allura’s POV. If it turns out to be true... then well... that just sucks considering everything she has been through with Lotor. Now, I’m not equating Lance with Lotor but I think Allura needs some time to herself and process everything that has happened. Hell, I think EVERYONE needs some time to process their whole lives.
As for Keith & Axca, again I don’t see that as an indicator of them being canon. Axca has always tried to kill Keith and while I may be happy that she’s now against the Galran empire, it doesn’t mean I’m okay with her being with Keith. (And no I’m not saying this as a Klance shipper.) As for Keith going back for her, he has always been like this. Axca isn’t the first. He always goes back for people who have tried to help them out. I didn’t see this as being any different. As for Zethrid’s comment, I’m seeing it as a joke. Axca and Keith have faced off many times and Ezor/Zethrid could very well have teased her about this in the past. It doesn’t mean that they are canon. The graveyard scene again makes sense to me because that’s Axca’s connection to the team - Keith, and the fact she’s a Galra. I can easily see her becoming a part of the Blade and helping out in that faction.
Axca and Allura are amazing individuals in their own right. They shouldn’t be demonized or hated for expressing themselves just because we want Klance to be together. Klance don’t exist in a vacuum. The reason why they are such compelling and complex characters is because of their interactions with rest of the world.
I’m going to stop here because this has gotten REALLY long but I have a LOT of feelings about this show and today is actually the first real time that I’ve talked to anyone about it.

Hey Clockie! Pardon my asking, but why do you want Lotor to be a splice baby if Zarkon and Haggar fit the criteria for making a hybrid son between themselves? Seems rather complicated and unnecessary to splice from a dead man when they're already hitched.
Because of a couple of reasons, actually!
First, s3e7 had Lotor be conspicuously absent, the entire time. Furthermore, the timeline they outlined, and the way they explore the characters of Zarkon and Honerva... I find it really hard to believe when there’s so much emphasis put on Honerva being enthralled with and dedicating as much time as possible to her work on the rift, that she’d take nine months off to have a child, assuming Altean gestation is anything like humans’. There’s a lot of other reasons why I don’t think Lotor existed back then but that’s not the point, so I’ll keep it short.
While Honerva and Zarkon are a galra and Altean couple who could definitely produce a mixed race kid the conventional way, Lotor would seem to have been conceived after both of them died and returned from the grave. While we don’t know for sure that would make it difficult for them to conceive, there’s also the fact that Haggar in her current identity appears to have forgotten Zarkon was her husband, and in the past (season 2) even though she still seems to retain her care for Zarkon and vice versa, Haggar in particular still observes, and acts as if there are specific boundaries between them.
I don’t think Honerva in the past would ever suggest she had ‘forgotten her place’ if her place was as the rightful empress of Daibazaal, even by marriage.
This makes me rather suspicious that Haggar produced Lotor herself, because being intimate with the emperor on that level does not seem like something that someone who forgot she was his wife would even consider. And while Lotor, Haggar, and various other people are perfectly frank about calling Zarkon his father, Haggar is not referred to as his mother, once. Throk even asks why Lotor is not at his father’s bedside but seems to find Haggar hovering around Zarkon suspicious.
And there’s a couple of other things that don’t add up here, for me, that makes me think something is funky about Lotor, though I might be moving away from the splice baby theory:
Lotor has white hair and blue eyes. His hair also has an observable natural curl to it. Neither Zarkon nor Honerva have the genetics to produce a kid like that. Honerva is naturally indigo-haired and golden-eyed, with straight hair. Her post-rift form has monochromatic gold eyes and white hair.
Zarkon, pre-rift, has no hair, dark-colored head ridges, and red eyes. His post-rift self has monochromatic violet eyes.
If their post-rift appearances affected them on a genetic level that they’d logically pass onto Lotor, we would expect him to have monochromatic eyes either gold or violet, and straight, stringy hair like Haggar’s.
If the rift didn’t affect them genetically, then Lotor really should have Honerva’s dark blue hair and either red or gold irises.
I’ve heard some people air the idea that either galra or Alteans have blue blood, and that Lotor is thus an albino, with the blue color of his eyes being caused by blood vessels, but even then, his hair shouldn’t curl.
And the entire Altean royal family...
White haired and blue eyed. One of them has very curly hair, and the other has straight hair, so, between them, it’s possible they could produce a child with somewhat curly hair.
But physiology aside, there also seem to be a lot of other suspicious ties between Lotor and the Altean royal family. In a pre season 3 interview, when asked if Lotor would have romantic interest in Allura, one of the writers replied with “What if they were siblings?”
Which is... a really specific and very strange question to raise, since, that really hasn’t ever been a thing in prior continuities. The closest is I think Devil’s Due Publishing had them as childhood friends.
You know what’s been a thing in prior continuities, though?
Allura being a major factor in Lotor’s character in general, which- yes, the romance angle is sunk and I’m happy to see it go, but that doesn’t mean they’ll mean nothing to each other. Especially when, as of s3e3, Allura is the only paladin we’ve seen get a shot in on Lotor, and when the plot specifically contrived that Allura stepped up and became a paladin at quite literally the same time as Lotor’s first confrontation with the team.
And in GoLion, Lotor’s interest in Allura is rooted in that she and his (deceased) mother have an eerie resemblance. I’ve heard people talk about how in VLD, the queen of Altea looks like an older Allura, which, she does. But... to me, nobody has pointed out how... this is really not normal for Mir? We have never seen them do something like this. It seems very unlikely that a studio that has cranked out diverse and distinctive female characters both for major roles and as faceless background extras (consider the various female aliens in Space Mall who are just as imaginative as the male patrons) just suddenly dropped the ball on a character they clearly wanted us to see and pay attention to, since, even without any real plot significance to s3e7 they made sure to show us the queen, front and center, quite often.
You know what this treatment looks like to me? It doesn’t look like a character they forgot.
It looks like how this show has, several times in the past, snuck people of significant plot importance into background scenes by pretending they were bit part characters. Remember when Thace was just that bored-looking guy who asked Prorok if he should report this to Zarkon per procedure?
Other things that bother me here- Zarkon wants Voltron, and, for Zarkon to seem credible as a threat, he has to actually have some chance of being able to use it if he got his hands on it.
But Zarkon would have to know that Voltron takes five pilots. And, given Zarkon’s refusal to let go of how things used to be- exemplified with his determination to do anything to save Honerva, his rage at the destruction of Daibazaal, his active indignation that Alfor wasn’t listening to him any more, his persistent hounding of the Black Lion and ignoring every single refusal it sends his way even if that refusal involves point-blank blasting him in the face like in s2e7...
...It’d make sense Zarkon would feel in some way, like he was entitled to his team. That maybe if he can’t take Alfor himself, he wants to take something of Alfor’s, instead.
And there’s a baffling number of similarities and thematic overlaps between Lotor and Alfor. That Lotor is a flashy, hotshot swordsman very similar to young Alfor, that we only learn about the history of the paladins in season three specifically in the context of the team trying to understand Lotor...
S3e4 is a goldmine in the sense that not only does it specifically bring up living Alteans and Allura having to deal with that, but also the whole bait that Lotor used to get them into the rift was activating a distress signal on the ship- the distress signal Coran specifically states as from Alfor’s ships.
Y’know why this bugs me? Because on the other end of the rift, the ship was dormant and dead. And the Alteans who were there couldn’t activate the ship themselves.
They needed Allura’s bloodline.
So... how did Lotor, if his genetics ostensibly draw from Honerva, turn on the beacon on that ship? Sure, he’s undeniably part Altean, but, he should be just as stuck as Hira or her bespectacled associate.
