#or they're like 'think of the environment' and then call women breeders

I literally glanced at the anti-natalism subreddit because I'm a single, child free woman turning 30 and reddit obviously has my number, but jesus christ, these people really type out full essays on how every suffering in your child's life is your fault and you'll have to live with yourself knowing all their failed marriages and bankruptcy are all your fault because you had the selfishness to want to procreate... I've never seen such neurotic dribble. They even said 'every skinned knee'.
Also, not to mention all the obvious incels who refer to women as breeders and think pregnancy is women 'being stupid bitches self-harming'. Hide yourself behind as much 'I don't want anymore children to suffer' bullshit as you want, but when the majority of your comments are about slagging off women, calling us stupid, calling us whores, calling us 'breeders' and insisting maternity leave and childcare shouldn't be a thing because it 'encourages women to be lazy whores who get fucked and paid' then you're just another incel sub by a different name.
#anti natalism#full of incels#do not recommend that sub#literally a bunch of men calling women stupid or immoral or claiming pregnancy is self harm#amazing how they slap a little 'oh think of the children!' on this bullshit but in the same post will be misogynistic as fuck#or they're like 'think of the environment' and then call women breeders#like i'll think of the environment when i bury you alive and you stop using up oxygen#on god#these people think they're on some great moral mission and even consistently refer to morals but then just blurt out THE MOST MISOGYNISTIC#SHIT and it's SO OBVIOUS because they're using the same words as incel forums. THE SAME WORDS.

this is a question I've had for a while but are pokemon species listed as only being male or female really like that? I mean for pokemon like braviary and mandibuzz, it just doesn't really make much sense for me and I was hoping to get an explanation.
*sound of a nerd opening a telescoping pointer* I'm so glad you asked!
Settle in, this is gonna be a long one.
TL;DR: Some of them are actually the same pokemon, while some just have weird means of reproduction.
So, I've said before that interspecies breeding isn't really a thing. And this is true! So pokemon that are all male or all female are something of oddities, no? Each one of those pokemon has a specific weird thing about it.
Some, like the nidos, are both the same species, just with such broad sexual dimorphism they were originally classified as different species. Best examples are, again, the nidos, but also miltank/tauros, happiny/tyrogue, and impidimp/hatenna.
(FUN FACT! Nidos in particular are super prone to intersex variations. Intersex nidos tend to actually be bigger and stronger, since they're basically two nidos in one. How have I never heard of them, you ask? You have! They're called rhyhorn :D They tend towards one sex or the other for reproduction, but they do have both sets)
Others are simple cases of social dynamics. Kirlia, I think, is the best example. They start off pretty much indistinguishable, and eventually evolve into gardevoir. Gardevior are incredibly protective of their children, and kind of scary when they need to be. But they're also pretty nomadic. They always travel in pairs, at the very least, and usually with at least one gardevoir. If you see a bunch of ralts with no gardevoir around...they're nearby, and will definitely kick your ass if you touch their babies.
However, some hyper-competitive males will evolve less into caretakers with a nasty streak and more into vigilant, territorial loners. They will essentially roam their territory, looking high and low for any nomadic gardevoir to...uh...settle down with. Once the eggs hatch, he kicks her out of his territory and the cycle starts again.
Life...finds a way.
Things like this include kangaskhan, which is just a 'breeder' role in marowak societies, jynx, which is basically the same as gallade but for electabuzz, deadass, burmy (obvs), salazzle, where mature females become head of the pack and earn the rights to breed, and vespiquen, where the strongest females become the 'monarchs' of the swarm and are protected by their hive.
Some grass types reproduce asexually or through pollination. Where all members of the species are both sexes, but the male sex organs are fairly small, and also humans like to put gender roles on flowers. These are flabebes, petilils, and bounsweet (tho tsareena also have a bit of a social dynamic thing going on)
Then there are the oddballs. Ones that are just, like, completely out there in the way they handle sex and gender.
Let's start with snorunt. Because all snorunt turn into glalie. From the womb to the tomb, these things are coded to be glalie. They only turn into froslass when they are, and I cannot stress this enough, POSSESSED BY YAMASK. The story is that vengeful or tortured women possess the ice, turning it into the dawn stones used to turn snorunt into froslass. From a scientific standpoint, yamask don't do super great in the cold, so they often seek shelter in dawn stones until they find a warm enough host. (What this has to do with gallade I don't recall, but it has something to do with absorption of energy?) Female snorunt run a slightly higher temperature than pretty much anything else in their environment, so they're a pretty natural choice.
So basically, froslass is a parasitic relationship.
Sawk and throh aren't fully understood yet, but the running theory at the moment is that they're a subspecies of...I want to say timburr? I could be wrong. And again, we're not sure at the moment.
Milcery and tinkatink are pretty similar, but we're pretty sure milcery works like ghost pokemon, where it's just energy manifest in a form or object of its choosing. Tinkatink is a pretty recent discovery, and is really hard to do testing on, so we have next to no clue. Best guess atm is a hyper-aggressive hatenna variant, but there's not much evidence for this.
And last up, there's the birds. Despite being pretty similar in a lot of ways, the science suggests they actually have very little to do with each other.
Braviary is a pretty fun case, as we think it's another variant. It's been shown to be compatible with pidgeot. Case closed, right? Not exactly. Because we have research from, like, feudal Sinnoh that indicates that braviary lived in Sinnoh BEFORE pidgey did. And what's more, it seems to have had a secondary typing other than normal????? And ALSO it's compatible with staraptor, which we know DID live in Sinnoh at the right time. Okay, so it's a staraptor variant built for extreme climates. Yeah, but WHY IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH PIDGEOT??? But pidgeot and staraptor are NOT able to produce fertile offspring. But they are able to produce infertile offspring?
So braviary and staraptor are close enough to breed, and so are braviary and pidgeot. But not pidgeot and staraptor. And there was once a version of braviary that just, like, had another typing?? So braviary and pidgeot have a common ancestor, and staraptor is an offshoot of braviary, but braviary also need staraptor in order to reproduce? But ALSO we've found rufflet eggs in areas without staraptor OR pidgeot?!?! Braviary has been baffling scientists for years now, and it's infuriating to anyone who works with them because it is SO. HARD. To keep them from fucking.
And mandibuzz just reproduce asexually
*NOTE: I am not a licensed professional in this area, so I could be wrong about some stuff. And this is a turbulent area of study, so things could change by the time I finish writing this sentence. Please take everything I just said with a massive grain of salt.
#pkmn#pokemon#pokemon irl#unreality#sorry if i started rambling#this is just fascinating to me as a daycare worker#there's a reason i use rhydon for my examples
