I would also like it noted that, beyond the blatant privacy issues, some kids just need the internet as another place to go.
Whether that's to escape abuse, cult upbringing, lack of resources in rural areas, whatever.
My friends look at my parents and whisper to me, "How did you grow up with these two and end up so nice/rational/normal?" and I'll be dead honest, it's because from 10 years old onward I learned from strangers on the internet.
Instead of advancing the police state, maybe put that money into educating kids on internet safety, avoiding predators, and assessing bias/accuracy in the information presented to them. These are life skills with far greater benefits than abject censorship.
objectively good idea
#not to say the internet isn't an absolute fucking minefield#and it is somehow worse today than it was in the 2000's#which is impressive#but you can teach kids how to sort through information. check facts. avoid predators.#i had my share of awful adults i came in contact with too young#but i was protected by my complete anonymity and learned to set boundaries. and more importantly:#i had my share of wholesome internet communities with responsible adults who were willing to look out for me#and answer questions like ''how do i politely tell my friend she's being racist''#or ''why has my mom been giving me the silent treatment for days now''#or even ''what should i do if i'm feeling suicidal''#i wouldn't be here if it wasn't for those friends i'd made online#or if i was i'd be the most wretched person. probably a terf or a cop or some shit#anyway it's like midnight. tag novel over. i am going to bed#rwp#fox news#ask to tag
