Curious, do people who play gacha games give any kind of shit about archiving the game itself? Or do they accept that the company running the game just takes their money, lets them play for a handful of years, and then fucks off?
I know I grew up playing MMOs and that has just. Been a part of the experience of playing them, but at least a lot of MMOs that have gone defunct have had a sort of revival and archiving effort perpetuated by dedicated fans.
I don't know if we'll ever see that with any kind of mobile gacha app.
And even with a lot of MMO revivals or legacy servers or rebuilds, I don't see a lot of options for playing the game entirely offline, rather, the ability for a player to experience as much as they can without the inherent need for other people to be involved. I know it defeats the purpose of the MMO, but in any case where the servers have to go offline (whether temporarily or for good), archiving isn't worth much if it can't be accessed without the need for them.
I dunno. Just having some thoughts about game preservation because I'm just very acutely aware of the passage of time rn.
#stupid shit#Mostly thinking about how PJSK is going to be completely unplayable in a few years (Y'alls know it's coming lol)#when it's exactly what I wanted a mobile Vocaloid rhythm game to be like#gameplay wise I mean.#couldn't really anticipate all the new characters and gacha element#so like. when the game dies#where will it be archived to? how will it be archived? will it be archived at all?#or are yalls gonna be too busy sucking sega's dick lol#and demanding that anyone archiving an unplayable game be publicly executed for “piracy” lmaoooo#I wouldn't expect much more from an offshoot of the Vocaloid fandom (which was busy sucking yamaha's dick all the time)
