Jessalyn never knew her father growing up. Her mother always told her the truth about how she came about; how she was the product of a one-night stand, and her mother chose not to tell her father that she’d become pregnant for reasons she never disclosed to Jessalyn. But, her father was never in the picture, something Jessalyn had learned to deal with over the years. Over time, she’d grown used to it being just her and her mother, but she’d always had that urge to at least meet her father, even if it was only one time. She’d never acted on the urge, not until a couple of years ago when she got out of nursing school and decided to see what kind of information she could get from her mother, and use that in an effort to search for him. All her mother gave her was a name, and a possible location; all she knew at that point.
It’d taken Jessalyn a while, but eventually she’d gotten a hit. That one hit led her to keep searching further, where she discovered her father also had a wife and two other children, and was possibly going to die of cancer. Faced with possibly losing the father she’d never known but wanted to meet more than anything, Jessalyn tracked her half-siblings to Eastwick, knowing one of them was her ticket for more information, and possibly a meeting with their dad. She immediately sent in an application for a nursing position, packing up her things and finding a place nearby as soon as the application was accepted.

Alexandra’s got plenty of stories as to how she earned this job. Very few people actually know the true story as to how she came to a job at the asylum; how she had the smarts and had the degree thanks to some heavy effort and countless all-nighters on her end with her schooling, but couldn’t seem to find a job; then by the work of her uncle and her father she somehow found herself with a job here, where she’s been for the last two years. It’s not very exciting to her, which is why she’s known amongst her coworkers to make up stories. She likes to keep it interesting, changing up the story to whoever asks. It’s the sense of humor in her, the side of her that’s constantly trying to bring some light to what she knows is a dark existence some of the kids that she sees show up to the infirmary, as well as residing in the asylum in general, are leading. Her main goal in switching up her stories constantly other than to keep it interesting? Simple; to put a smile on a kid’s face. If she can make that happen at least once a day, Alexandra views it as a successful workday.

Teresa Maslin | 31 years old | Teacher | FC: Catherine Tate
A single mother from the age of twenty, Teresa has never been anything but independent. So much so that she hasn't managed to maintain a relationship without becoming uncomfortable in a long time -- not since her engagement to the father of her son, Allan, who left when she fell pregnant with Benji. Teresa raised the boy by herself and, when Benji reached the age of ten, moved to California with him to start the teaching job that she'd hoped for ever since before her pregnancy. Now known as Miss Maslin, she's a headstrong and dependable woman that puts her child above all else in her life. After all, he's been her light in the darkness all these years. She has an affinity for helping out other people, especially the young; after all, she remembers how hopeless she felt in her youth when she struggled with her sexuality.

Natalia grew up singing. Her parents love to joke that every noise she made as an infant sounded like some kind of song that made no sense, and it just continued from when she learned to talk. Everyone expected her to grow up and become a singer, but the irony of it was that wasn’t what Natalia wanted to be. She wanted a career involving music, yes, but she didn’t want to be a singer. She didn’t think she had what it took to become a singer, even with her voice, so it wasn’t what she aimed for in terms of a career. This, of course, left her at a loss when it came to deciding what she wanted to do.
She came across the idea of becoming a therapist when a teacher noticed her helping out a student who’d been going through a rough patch her junior year, and made the mention to Natalia that she had a knack at helping people. Liking the sound of it, she looked into it. When she came across the idea of using music as a therapy tool, she knew she’d found her perfect career. She went to school, got her degree, and approached Eastwick about a position first. She knew they weren’t looking for a music therapist, but she was ready to prove her case, and she did, getting hired on the spot.

Courtney grew up in the foster care system. Her parents had her while they were in high school. While her mother abandoned her when she was a few days old, her father stuck around, at least for a little while. He knew he couldn’t provide his baby girl with much, but he was willing to provide her with whatever he could. But, a couple weeks passed and with no help from his parents and him coming to the realization he couldn’t take care of his daughter as well as he’d hoped he could, Courtney’s dad gave her up to Social Services. That was how Courtney grew up in the system; being moved from foster home to foster home, eventually she got used to it. She took each new foster home as an opportunity for a new adventure. When she was 17, she was placed in the home of the person she credits for changing her life. He was an older gentleman, someone Courtney looked up to like a grandfather, he had no children, or grandchildren, and he wasn’t married, so he cherished every foster kid he took in, giving them the best he could. It was Courtney’s technical last year in the system, when she turned eighteen she’d phase out, like everyone else before her, but it was the least of her worries. A few months into her stay with him, he got sick. At first, Courtney didn’t think anything of that either. He was sick, he’d get better. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. He didn’t get better, but it did help Courtney realize what she wanted to do. Seeing all the nurses help him, reminded her of the way he helped her. She applied to go to school for nursing. The asylum wasn’t exactly her first choice for an internship, but she doesn’t mind. She’ll take any experience she can get if it’ll help her become the best nurse she can be.

Background: Growing up, Maggie was fascinated by the world of medicine. All types of medication, the pharmaceutical outlook of the situation, the prognosis, and prescriptions. It was something that she could never get enough of, she would always be researching more and more, learning about different drugs and medications, and how they are used against the body whether for the good or bad. In her junior year in high school, her best friend, Julie had gotten into the wrong crowd, doing drugs most weekends and even on school grounds. Maggie tried to help, to get Julie help, time and time again. But she was resistant. April of that year, Julie had suffered an overdosed and passed away. And Maggie, she lost her best friend to something she though that she knew everything about. Going into college, Maggie knew exactly what she wanted to peruse and that was addictions. How they were formed, how to lean a person away from one, techniques on how to talk to her patients when it came to their addictions. Upon having her daughter Maggie never thought that she would have excelled in the dance world as much as she did. When her daughter was 16, Maggie began to notice the exact signs of substance abuse, but couldn’t put it in her head that her daughter had been doing drugs. One recital changed everything, when her own daughter suffered from a overdosed inflicted stroke, and that is when she decided to bring her own daughter into the asylum.

Katherine Deltai | 25 years old | Teacher | FC: Miranda Kerr
Unlike Waxler's other dance teacher, Lily, Miss Deltai has a sensible head on her shoulders. She considers dancing to be a competitive thing rather than recreational, and her dances tend to be much higher in energy, more grueling and harder to get through than those of her co-teacher. The two of them make quite an explosive force when combined, and Miss Deltai is the one who's considering entering their class into some dance competitions. Outside of school, she's a level-headed young woman that's never really suffered through any major drama -- and lives alone with a couple of cats and an aquarium.
