BnHA Fics I’ve Read This Week 1

I read and review a lot of fics, every week. Here is the list from last Friday, to today. Let me know if I should I do this next week. 

Bloom in Winter - God linking all the art for this was a bitch in my google document, but worth it. In this uncompleted and seemingly abandoned twelve chapter fic where Midoriya is forced to work with villains with his analytical abilities. The story picks up when he finds out that he’s going to have to infiltrate UA as a General Studies student in order to find a way to help kill his idol, All Might. 

The Sun in My Eyes - This is a MomoJirou fic where the two girls meet at a young age and slowly fall in love as they grow up together. A fast read, and really cute. 

Trust Fall - This is a cute little fic that I think is supposed to end on a note of a possible relationship between Shinsou and Midoriya. Basically, the 2A addition to the UA Cultural Festival is a cat café, and while chasing one down both Midoriya and the cat he was chasing end up stuck in a tree, and it’s Shinsou to the rescue. 

What’s She Got That I Don’t? - This is a one-shot where we see Kirishima tell Bakugou that he has a crush on him. Getting rejected, he expected that. What he didn’t expect was for Bakugou to turn around and ask out Uraraka the very next day. This one-shot was good, but painful at times. 

I. Shaky Hands - This is the beginning of rexcorvidae’s incomplete Whumptober Series. I did not review every single piece of this series, but it does kick off with a very good start. Dadzawa to the rescue when he realizes that - with all the damage that Midoriya’s done to them - his problem child can’t use a pen well, or a pair of chopsticks. 

[Because this was a series of unconnected stories, I will be putting each one that I reviewed after this] 

III. Delirium - Midoriya gets sick out of the blue in the UA dorms, attacks some students in his delirious state, and collapses. The whump is just spectacular and I love any story that features a character that thinks their friends are their enemies 

IV. Human Shield - While taking Midoriya out for ice cream, he and Yagi get attacked. His brilliant solution to save his mentor? Jump in front of the bullet and almost die. There is some good Dad Might in this fic. 

VII. Isolation - Warning, this fic deals with Suicidal Ideation. Basically, what would happen if Midoriya took Bakugou’s middle school taunting as far as it could have gone. It ends with him standing on a roof, read at your own risk. 

XV. Scars - Midoriya has scars from the years of violent bullying that he went through and they don’t go unnoticed by his mentor. On the other side of the coin, Midoriya doesn’t want to tell Yagi who did it because he knows that if the people who tormented him don’t get to slide into being the heroes that they don’t deserve to be, they could be terrible villains. I honestly love this fic, it deserves everything. 

XVI. Stitches - This is an AU where Nighteye finds Midoriya at a pretty young age, sees the sort of analytical work that he can do, and has him intern at his office [and holds onto his notebooks for him, since there’s a lot of dangerous information in there, even if Midoriya doesn’t understand that when they first meet]. This story takes place a few years into that internship, when Midoriya collapses at work after the stitches he put in himself after another round of violent assault from his classes gets infected. 

XVIII. Muffled Screams - The last fic in this series that I reviewed, and it is a painful one, quite literally for Midoriya. In this story, he has been kidnapped, and he has one job. Don’t scream. Of course, this is difficult as he gets tortured, but he has to, because the villain promises that if he makes a noise, someone he cares about will die. We see this from the live feed that is being broadcast of the torture, with Yamada, Aizawa, and Yagi. 

Is it the Thunder in the Distance - This is a good little one-shot featuring Yagi spending the night at the Midoriya household and finding his successor sleeping on the floor right outside of his room. All in all, this is a very good fic and I like it a lot. Note, the actual name of the fic is much longer, but I am not writing the entire thing out again. 

If I’m Losing Again, Quiet Me Down - This takes place during the Stain Arc, when Midoriya is sitting in the hospital with Todoroki and Iida. While calling around to make sure that people know that he’s okay, he ends up having a panic attack. There is a soft ending to this one. 

I’ll Carry You Home - This was a debut fic for the author on Ao3, and it features Yagi carrying an exhausted Midoriya home after a long day of training. Most adorably, he accidentally calls his mentor “dad,” and when Midoriya wakes up enough to realize what he said there is a lot of apologizing. All in all a cute story. 

Growing Like You - This is a short one-shot featuring Midoriya finding out that one of the side affects of his new Quirk is that he’s growing, fast and a lot. Trying to find him something to wear, Yagi ends up stumbling across a box of his old UA clothes, and he gives it to Midoriya. 

Feelings of a Fanboy - This is one of those “What if Midoriya had a Quirk” stories, and they are some of my favorite kinds of fanfics out there. In this one, his power is called Emotional Rush. Basically, the more he feels, the stronger and faster he gets. This goes up to right around/before the Stain Arc. 

Father’s Day - This is a fic that features Hisashi Midoriya not really being around and Yagi stepping into the paternal role in Midoriya’s life, something that they both seem to need. 

Define “Villainy” - This is more or less a crack fic where Tsuyu realizes that literally no one in her class has tried to stop her from straight up attempting to murder Mineta, and they will probably continue to let her because no one in the class actually likes him. 

Anything, Anything - This is a fic that I already recommended to someone, and it is so good. This is a fic that features eventual TodoDoriya, where the two of them keep running into each other in the UA Dorms common room whenever they wake up from nightmares. 

Those Hardest to Love Need it the Most - This is a Dadzawa fic where Aizawa finds out that Midoriya was extremely mistreated at his middle school and opens up an investigation in hopes of taking the place down for Quirk discrimination. 

All the Signs - This is a crack fic for what I consider a bit of a crack ship, Huyumi. Basically, Fuyumi gets pregnant with Hawks’ kid and starts acting a little... bird like. The author, ohmytheon, is fantastic and I have read so much of their stuff. 

Come Home - This fic breaks my entire heart. This is a story where Touya and Fuyumi Todoroki are twins, two halves of the same whole. This goes through their childhood together, right up to the end where Fuyumi watches Touya being Dabi on TV and refuses to rat him out. She just wishes that he would come back. 

Who Will Protect Them - USJ 2.0, taking place when 1A has become 3A. After getting slammed into a wall and not being able to get back up, Aizawa wonders who’ll protect his class, before realizing that they’re more than keeping their own. He’s proud... and he’ll be even more proud if he survives this. 

Darken Your Door - This is a fic that deals with neglect, emotional abuse, and manipulation. While on a run to a corner store with Midoriya, Aizawa gets to meet his students estranged father. It doesn’t take long for him to realize that his student is extremely uncomfortable around his parent. From then on he wraps Hisashi Midoriya in more red tape than he’ll be able to get out from under. No one talks to his students unless his students want to hear from that person. 

Mouth Shut (Eyes Down) - A story in which Midoriya does not trust adults because they were the ones that let Bakugou and the rest of his bullies get away with assaulting him. He accidentally admits this to Aizawa after being stabbed when he thought he could “handle” getting stalked. 

A Touch of Hope - This is technically a soulmates fic, where you find your soulmate after physical contact. Shinsou was not expecting to find his at UA, nor was he expecting that it would give him an opportunity to join the Hero Course if he can prove himself. 

Voiceless - This is a shorter fic, only 1K, and it features Midoriya losing his voice when he gets sick and Shinsou taking care of him. It’s pretty cute. 

Creating Music - This is a three chapter fic taking place over two days, the day before and the day of Valentine’s Day. This is a MomoJirou fic that is really cute and sentimental. I love it so much. 

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year - In this fic, Midoriya is a dumbass and Shinsou finds his crush stuck to a pole by his tongue. He is not wearing a coat, and he has been stuck like this for a long time. 

Hook, Line, and Sinker - This is a great EraserMic fic in a Quirkless AU, where Aizawa thinks that his tinder date it a catfish because there is no way internationally famous singer Hizashi Yamada just matched with him. Note, there is smut in either the second or third chapter. 

Ask Me No Questions, I’ll Tell You No Lies - This is a silly little fic where Shinsou and Midoriya share a hotel room. Before you ask, there are two beds. There is a kiss, but that’s about it. A little OOC for Midoriya, but still pretty good. 

Shinsou the Local Cryptic - This is a fic where Shinsou becomes an internet meme of his own creating. It’s honestly pretty fun, and I had a good time with this one-shot. 

You Anchor Me Back Down - This is a one-shot with some fun art in it. When Todoroki is hit with a random Quirk that causes him to float whenever he’s happy, it’s difficult for him to keep his crush on Midoriya a secret. This takes place during their third year. 

Cosmic Confluence - Wonderful Shinsou-Centric fic where he’s a reaper and it’s his job to watch over Izuku Midoriya until he dies. I wish that there was more of this fic that I could read because the idea of this is so interesting.

Priarch Enterprises - At best she’s employed in Edarien’s care part time, coming and going as her whims see fit. Anyone in contact with the company has likely heard mention of Rin in passing. Maybe a story or two about her temper and something she might have beheaded.

Taverns - She’s a bit notorious for being at the bar a little frequently. Rinalys has her fair share of tabs racked up, but finds it a good place to gather information. Of course the fun that comes from mingling there is important too.

The Wandering Kind - Despite a home of her own these days, this girl is one who can’t seem to stay in one locale for too long, which means that she might just end up in your neighborhood. How long she stays is another matter.

What I’m looking for –––– ♥

Mostly, to expand the number of contacts that I have and open up doors for possible interactions outside of my current ones. I tend to keep to myself and am hoping to change that even a little. IC or OOC alike.

New friends, possibly ships, I’m pretty open to stuff admittedly. Anything deep requires familiarity and communication before I’m likely to go with it. I’ve been burned at least a couple times. 

I’m all for pre-established relationships as well or establishing a job network for her. In the past she’s been a mercenary as well as a member of the Rogue’s guild, beyond being a former slave. There’s a large amount of wiggle room in it too given her tendency to not stick to one place.

I get anxious. This can ease up once I’ve gotten to know a person. Groups/Events can take a lot of working up to go to, however. I’ve been better about it recently. Usually.

I also am very prone to getting distracted by things and can easily throw myself into something that wasn’t what I intended to do for hours on end.

My work schedule might make it a bit difficult for consistent RP. I tend to be scheduled where I’m on for 7 days, and then off the next 7 for ten hour shifts at a go. So patience is a must if you do want to make plans.

Most RP will generally be in game or on Discord, if it happens.

NOW THE OPPOSITE, LIST EVERYTHING WHY YOUR MUSE COULD NOT BE SO INTERESTING (EVEN IF YOU MAY NOT AGREE, WHAT DOES THE FANDOM PERHAPS THINK?).   .... well, first off, in 03, people disliked rose for the fact that she was seen as a threat to the pairing EdWin. which, ofc if you read the manga, doesn’t happen so. and idk if people couldn’t really relate to rose back then, much less in BH where she barely shows up (as story-line goes) and she isn’t as fleshed out as prior. umm. i think from what i’ve seen (even if it is canon) people didn’t particularly like that they “white-washed” her, even though technically she was meant to be originally light-skinned (she’s a desert child yet she’s white .... she’d burn but ok) and i think just how she came off originally really made people dislike her vs 03. and maybe her storyline in 03 wasn’t as interesting and maybe a little dark, given that she’s a WOC who is raped by a soldier(s) and had the child, then was used by scar, and then used again by dante, so maybe they figured she’s a weak person who gets manipulated a lot? (writing this is making me mad but from again, what i’ve read LMAO) and just the plot device with the child / gate opening. 

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE? honestly? cause she was pretty LMAO. but mainly bc she (in 03) was a brown girl, like me. even though you don’t know her race, i saw myself in her, and she was so sweet and wholesome. she lost her first love and was desperate to do whatever it takes to get him back and i think she was lost, uncertain, and i really felt that. as time goes on and you find out that she changes her tune and grows and uses ed’s words to help herself back up again from being in a war-zone, it’s inspiring. she didn’t just stick to her ideals, she really changed. and then she is assault. and you just feel furious for her bc she didn’t deserve that, after having just felt empowered to do the right thing. i think initially it was out of vanity, but as i continued on with her, she just grew to be apart of me. she was one of my longest played characters, so i do have a sentimental attachment to her. 

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING? umm. it’s hard more so now bc she’s no longer my main muse. so finding her voice now, a decade-plus later, can pose as a challenge. but i guess other than having writing partners who love her just as much as i do, i think just thinking about what would ( 21+) rose grow up into? what sorts of complex thoughts would she have? music helps me mostly if nothing else tbh.

LMAO but really, it’s fine, it’s for fun and i’ll try not to take it personally.

Distinguishing Marks: Horns like a behemoth’s and just as sturdy, smoky lips scarred down the left side, a mouthful of a dozen very sharp fangs, runic xaela tattoos across his torso and arms, animate spinal scales with dense spines down his vertebrae, one dangerously long tail, and Other Things.

Common Accessories: Wears the Soul of the Warrior as a pendant around his neck hanging from a gold and obsidian-beaded leather cord, housed between a pair of curved boar tusks crossed at the tips. Adorns himself with natural ornaments found on his endless journey, often wearing feathers or plants in his hair along with clothing and armor decorated with various animal hides. The entirety of his left arm is wrapped from shoulder to knuckles in blessed linen bandages, strapped around his chest to keep the sleeve fastened.

Weapons: Azukhai carries and most often wields a battle-axe that is half blade and half hammer with a cruel talon hooking from the pommel for maximum utility, simply named ‘his steel’ when referred to. The axe is well-weathered and very old, having been the instrument of his ferocity for a dozen summers. His second weapon is an intricately crafted odachi with a design forged in the depths of the Ruby Sea, its blade is said to cut like a riptide wave in terms of force. The sword is rarely seen bare, almost always wrapped from pommel to point in bandages of linen knotted around the guard to prevent it from being drawn. His secondary hunting implements include a tomahawk with a toothed blade and a curved grip that doubles as a utility tool for survival in the wilds. Feathers hang from the bottom of the handle and the back of the axe-head serves as a hammer, much like his battle-axe but on a smaller scale for less violent purposes. A great-bow befitting his size can sometimes be seen slung around his body and the sword on his back with a quiver full of arrows strapped parallel to the sheath. Depending on his prey, Azukhai will trade the bow for a handful of throwing spears of which he can hold three of in a single hand. He also wears a flat, broad blade of steel on his right gauntlet that extends and retracts from the forearm of his armor, offering both a surprise and a lethal extension of his arm at close-quarters.

Master Warriors who have learned to direct and cooperate with their Inner Beasts have important business with Azukhai. Having only recently tapped into the infinite well of rage of his own Inner Beast, control is something he struggles with daily and urges are often resisted with nerves of steel. He sees it as no surprise that the Will of Karash has manifested in him, perhaps even a goal achieved.

Alchemists and Enchanters in need of a new supplier would find no better fit than Azukhai to handle the legwork. He has a profitable habit of sniffing out both unusually practical and also highly sought-after, rare materials and reagents for arcane crafts. Azukhai’s prey is often valued greatly on markets for the usefulness of their parts, but only if the hunter himself doesn’t need them.

Fellow Friends of the Forest can find a steadfast ally in the hunter who lives to survive and preserve the survival of the wild, untamed and secluded places of the world. Gifted with a strange form of the Echo, his quarries are the monstrous; those that would corrupt and destroy in the name of power. Many monsters begin their evil plots hidden in woods and caves, out of sight until the first victim falls.

Dragonsong Veterans might recall the terror inflicted by the Fangs of the First Brood, a war-band of heretics and other mortals pledged to Nidhogg’s rage. Many Ishgardian outposts were razed by these guerrilla fighters, employing a tactic of the Steppe known as Wolf and Crow with Azukhai at the head of their operations in bloody battles against the Holy See.

Enemies of Garlemald who know the power of terror unleashed with precision should understand Azukhai’s motives and actions; that no quarter is to be given on any front to those who would make the world their Castrum. While no ranking general, Azukhai is always ready to jump at the chance to lay waste to any Garlean operation.

Xaela wise in the ways of the Steppe might find the hunter exceptionally strange, his lack of knowledge when it comes to most customs marking him as a lost child, whisked away from his tribe and raised by others just as lost and reviled. His brothers and sisters only kept their tribe names as a reminder that they were truly Nameless.

Azukhai is my main character so killing him off or rendering him unplayable isn’t on the table. Feel free to try fighting him though.

FFXIV’s lore is ambiguous enough to allow room for most fantasy concepts as long as they adhere to a few hard rules of the setting. My character is technically a Warrior but there’s much more to him than just his game class. I love characters who are made with the same philosophy. I might bend lore, might not. Let me know if something comes up.

This character is polyamorous by nature but OOC ERP (see: cybering) is not my jam.

Violence, grit, struggle and consequence are all great parts of any story just as the good times and lighthearted moments are. I shoot for a healthy mix of fluff and heavy stuff.

Nergui Malaguld

➥ What is your character’s full name?: Nergui Malaguld is technically a taken name, not a given name, although he never actually recieved a proper name from his original tribe ➥ Do they have any brothers or sisters?: He is the smaller of a pair of eldest twins, and has 3 younger siblings, two sisters and a brother, only one of which he is aware of/has met ➥ What kind of eyes do they have?: His left eye is a bright silvery white, and his right has been replaced with a polished black and red opal ➥ What kind of hair do they have?: His natural hair color is very similar to his eye color, being a bright white, but he tends to darken it, most often to reds or dark green. ➥ What is their complexion like?: Nergui’s skin is a light grey tinged with blue, and just a tad of warmth to it. His skin would be clear if not marred by scars, the most prominent of which crosses over his right eye from forehead to cheek scales. His horns and scales are a dark bluish black and also show signs of chips and damage. ➥ What body type are they?: short... for a male Au Ra. still being taller than most non-rogadyn. He’s also built slimmer and a tad lighter than most Xaela men, but his frame does carry obvious lean strength ➥ What is listening to their voice like?: though his vocal range is a low tenor, his speaking voice is a bit lower than that would lead most to expect, with just a bit of gravel to it. He tends to speak in quiet tones, and in a very careful manner, often pausing to think before selecting what he might say. He often (infuriatingly for many) seems to begin voicing a thought and then says nothing at all. ➥ What do they hate most about themselves?: Oh boy here’s the big one. Nergui has attempted to cut his ENTIRE past from himself (I’m sure that’s healthy) due to him being almost certianly directly responsible for the death of one of the only two people he has ever loved in a reciprocal manner, and the paralyzation of the other. ➥ Do they have a favorite quote?: From one of his poems: “those loved and lost are remembered, but left. Lest we lose with them ourselves.” ➥ What sort of music do they enjoy?: He tends to prefer instrumental music, leaning towards Erhu/Huqin and simple percussion, the latter of which he plays on occasion. ➥ Have/would they ever cheat(ed) on a partner?: No, as he has never had a romantic partner. ➥ Have they been cheated on by a partner?: no, see above. ➥ Have they ever lost someone close to them?: Yes. his brother to betrayal, his birth parents and siblings to the results of his own actions excluding him from their tribe, and his adoptive “parents”, one falling in battle the other to complications from injury. ➥ What is their favorite sound?: Anything involving large bodies of water. ➥ Are they judgmental of others?: Very rarely. the last time he made a snap character judgement a lot of people died. He tries to never judge anyone as harshly as he judges himself. ➥ Have they ever been drunk?: yes, although technically very few times, since one incident lasted several years. ➥ What are they like when they stay up all night?: you’re like as not to find him staring at the ocean as weeping, but regardless he tends to withdraw. ➥ Have they ever been arrested?: Several attemps, mostly by mercenaries or hired killers, none successful. ➥ What evokes strong memories for them?: This is going to sound FAR more freudian than it actually is, but anyone who reminds him of his mothers. The locked journal and spellbook he carries with him as well, as those, along with his false eye, are the only remnants of his past he keeps. ➥ What do they do on rainy days?: He tries to find his place in the world and help where he can, as he does in any weather. ➥ What religion are they?: Nergui is not staunchly atheist, but has damaged himself beyond any concious clinging to a higher power. He would be willing to explore such but not until he is in a more stable state. ➥ What word do they overuse the most?: probably some form of apology, although he would say “goodbye” ➥ What do they wear to bed?: very little to nothing. when sharing a bunk he will wear what amounts to a sarong if his nudity would make his bedmate uncomfortable ➥ Do they have any tattoos or piercings?: both ears are pierced twice, once low, once high. He has no tattoos ➥ What type of clothing are they most comfortable in?: Nerugi tends to enjoy clothes that are light and comfortable, but will often sacrifice both in favor of either heavy robes or something non-descript. while he loves designing such articles as he or others would enjoy wearing, Nergui is next to useless with a needle. ➥ What is their most disliked food?: He’s not honestly a fan of anything hugely sugar heavy. otherwise Nergui tends to be pretty open ➥ Do they have any enemies?: None that know he lives. The Wandering Kind - This girl is one who can’t seem to stay in one locale for too long, which means that she might just end up in your neighborhood. How long she stays is another matter.

On the Run? - Her past work made at least one enemy, and her past even before then constantly has her looking over her shoulder. Such unease might raise a brow or two.

Mostly, to expand the number of contacts that I have and open up doors for possible interactions. Up to this point I’ve had a knack of keeping to myself and am hoping to change that even a little. IC or OOC alike.

I get anxious at times, not gonna lie. This can ease up once I’ve gotten to know a person. Groups/Events can take a lot of working up to go to, however.

I also am very prone to getting distracted by things and can easily throw myself into something that wasn’t what I intended to do for hours on end. 

My work schedule might make it a bit difficult for consistent RP. I tend to be scheduled where I’m on for 7 days, and then off the next 7 for ten hour shifts at a go. So steady weekly things are a no go and part of why I RP very infrequently. I guess that’s the main reason why I’m hesitant to hope for anything big. 

Most RP will generally be on here or Discord, if it happens.
