#ooc: ''canonically'' luran is a royal advisor

[ Ooc: Was looking for new songs that I could relate to Luran and finally discovered that one of my fave metal bands has the perfect song for him. :3 This is incredibly Royal Advisor!Luran coded and I love it.

Dude is so stuck in his own mind, torn between two (perhaps even multiple) extremes; he has countless of flaws and definitely finds himself somewhere on the morally grey spectrum. He's not evil per se, but boy, does this elf enjoy killing people who wronged him (whether they're good or bad — he doesn't differentiate in the moment of executing the act crime); and he'll be certain to make an elaborate show of their assassination, too. He's composed and stoic until you antagonise him and get on his bad side — the second you do, he's already plotting your demise.

His conflicting personality is (partially, if not entirely) created by his parents, who provided zero parental guidance and support; there was absolutely no parental affection between them and any of their children, except maybe Luran's younger brother, which irked Luran tremendously. Luran has this twisted notion that he must accomplish something grand and impressive, something his parents (or mother, since his father's been murdered by the time Luran is appointed Royal Advisor) cannot simply disregard, disapprove of, or circumvent because of the sheer scale and magnitude of his achievement. Hence why he's endeavouring to kill the evil, dictatorial king he's working for, with the intention to take his place and rule over the kingdom himself.

His ambitions escalated big time, for if you'd asked him what he aspired to be when he was around the age of 40 / 70, he would've answered "to become an esteemed and renowned violinist" (he absolutely loves to play the violin). Unsurprisingly, his parents never supported his violin-aspirations and instead forced him to become a merchant (like his father) and keep the generations-old family business alive, or risk being disowned and lose everything.

Personally, I thought it would be interesting to have this privileged elf, who was brought up in wealth and moved in a reasonably high hierarchical circle, to be unacquainted with familial love (although he does have his elder brother, but their relationship is a whole other story and requires a new headcanon post). Luran's predicament is, essentially, the embodiment of "money can't buy happiness," because despite growing up in comfort and wanting for nothing, Luran never established a healthy relationship with his parents, never felt respected or understood, and never felt happy. And as they continued to impede him, he grew more and more resentful of them. And now (at the age of 120), he's arrived but several metres away from the point of no return, but either doesn't want to alter his course or doesn't know how to. He's cognisant of the mistakes he's made and the many flaws he has, but he's in it too deep and can't climb out of the hole he, and his parents, dug for him himself — he'd need external assistance. And he's extremely close to getting incarcerated in a vicious cycle where he knows he did something wrong, doesn't know how to right it (or doesn't want to), soldiers on, does something that's even more deplorable, doesn't rectify it, and continues etc. etc..

In the end, however, his intention is to liberate the kingdom of the king's tyranny and earn the people's trust, respect, and admiration, but it'll never make up for the respect and admiration his parents were remiss in giving him (and he knows this too, but strives to complete his ploy regardless, because he's a little selfish, power-hungry from having been oppressed by his parents for so long, and craves validation and veneration). His ascension to power will be a bloody one, I can tell you that much.
