Classpect Evaluation #16
I am really really sorry this one took so long.  @theoneandonlymyth0s, your classpect evaluation will be under a cut once I get to a desktop and edit this post is under the cut.
There are a few traits in your responses that stand out to me:
You like immersing yourself in a story.  You say that’s partially escapism (and honestly, who doesn’t want to escape from time to time?) but you also like being able to be someone else and express yourself the way you normally wouldn’t.  That last part is very interesting!  It changes the focus from being passively perceived differently by others, to yourself being free to act differently.
You also have the ability to notice and/or remember small details that others usually miss.  You’re the only person so far who’s called out that question ;)  You utilize this ability in listening to and supporting your friends; they see that you care about them by remembering small details about them, so they feel comfortable and are more likely to open up and allow you to help them.  (There are probably plenty of other places where this comes in handy, but that’s the one you mentioned.)
Like I mentioned earlier, I think Mind is a possibility for your aspect.  Consciously acting in different ways in response to others’ perceptions, and being aware of doing so, is a pretty solid Mind trait (as opposed to Heart, who simply are who they are).  You like to ensure that all points of view are considered and recognized, even if you don’t necessarily agree with them.  And remembering small details is, like, memories and stuff, y’know.
But you also mentioned Void in our subsequent messages, and honestly I think that’s an even STRONGer contender for your aspect.  You notice the details that others don’t, you bring up the point of views that others won’t think of.  You have an unfortunate tendency to be ignored by your friends fairly often :(  So you stick around the edges of your friend group and avoid causing friction or drawing attention to yourself.  It’s both a defense mechanism that you use and an ordeal that you suffer through.
Knight and Mage are both classes which simultaneously use and suffer from their aspects. The main difference, I think, is that the Mage’s ordeal tends to be external and the Knight’s tends to be internal. I don’t mean by this that the Knight’s ordeal is self inflicted. Obviously Karkat’s mutant blood is through no fault of his own, and it really was a potential danger back on Alternia. But now he’s the only one trying to conceal his blood color and hold himself up to this standard of being a leader that no one besides himself cares about. This is in contrast to Mages such as Sollux, who face most of their challenges as a meteor apocalypse, the Vast Glub, etc very external challenges that they have to fight against rather than struggle with.
For this reason, I think you are a Knight rather than a Mage. You mention being your own worst enemy about your flaws, originally due to past bullying but now an internal struggle that you’re trying to overcome. You get nervous about your friends ignoring, judging, or leaving you, even if you don’t logically think they will. Again, I do NOT mean to imply that this is all in the Knight’s head! But it is a contrast to Mages, who tend to be very confident in their abilities instead. Sollux (and Meulin) never lose confidence in themselves; Sollux only gave up if he felt there was nothing he could actually do to prevent the oncoming apocalypse.
Tbh, another thing that keyed me into your possibly being a Knight was that you wanted to be a hero of Space because you liked the importance of the cardinal aspects, even as you acknowledged that Void might be a better fit for you. Knights want to be important and significant heroes. Dave and Karkat, obviously. Latula didn’t really have a chance to be a significant hero any more when we met her because she was dead, but she still wanted to maintain an image of herself being strong and cool, with what Porrim called a “carto+o+nish masquerade that with every kickflip and high five screams ‘YES, IT APPEARS THAT GIRLS CAN BE AS RADICAL AND AS GOOD AT GAMES AS BOYS!’”
(The lesson that Knights such as Latula need to learn, as Porrim explained, is that “I just think yo+u sho+uld be yo+urself mo+re o+ften. We already kno+w yo+u are stro+ng and go+o+d at games and all that. Yo+u have no+thing to+ pro+ve.”)
(That said, I personally headcanon that an Sburb session lacking certain classes and aspects might force one of the players to be that class/aspect, especially one of the cardinal aspects. Or, could you imagine the Sburb forums filled with posts by groups desperately seeking Space players so their session doesn’t fail? Those would be some cool fansession stories.)
Remembering things, noticing things, and guiding friends are all knowledge class traits, but they’re fairly general, so ultimately I think the Knight traits outweigh them.
I’d be happy to continue our discussion if you have any other info you consider important or you disagree with any of my points, but for now I think you are a Knight of Void!
