Shock
a sudden upsetting or surprising event or experience.
I am sure that it wasn't possible to feel any worst for Seokjin than how I felt for him in that moment. The reaction he had to hearing the news, the shock and hurt that was evident in his voice. It made my heart break. I looked over to my husband as we discovered the news, he looked extremely caught off guard as well.
We were all in a state of shock. In my head I kept thinking this isn't happening. But it was happening. Mina was dead, she was never coming back and neither was her and Seokjin's unborn child.
The hardest reality of this all is the fact that Seokjin desired to have a child probably more than anything else in the world. He wanted a little boy to continue his legacy or a little girl to spoil. Something else we had in common, we both wanted children although our partners didn't.
He had finally gotten what he desired but had lost it even before he had knew about. My heart truly went out to him. Hoseok and I left the room for a while so that the detectives could ask him a few more questions.
"I can't believe she was murdered. Poor Seokjin." I said.
"I know it's a shame." Hoseok replied looking down at his phone. He seemed a bit preoccupied.
"I just don't understand who could have killed her, or why." I said turning to face him.
"I don't know, but I think I need to step out for a minute. Did you think you'll be alright staying here?" He asked.
"Where are you going?"
"I just have a very important errand I need to run suddenly." He replied.
"Um, okay. Yes I'll be fine. I want to stay with him right now.
"Alright, Ill see you back at home tonight. Tell Seokjin I had to leave." He said kissing my cheek.
"Mhm" I mouthed as I watched him walk towards the stairs. Honestly, I didn't want my husband to leave but I knew that he was very busy and so I respected that. I also knew that this was hard for him as well. I know that he regretted the affair and felt so guilty about it on a daily basis. This situation was very delicate and I could see why he wouldn't want to stay.
"Unnie!" The voice behind me called snapping my out of my thoughts. I could recognize that voice anywhere. She was Krystal, Seokjin's little sister and my really close friend.
"Krystal, sweetie how are you?" I said hugging her as she approached me.
"I'm fine considering. I'm just in a lot of shock right now."
"Yeah, I think we all are." I replied.
"I hope whoever did this horrible thing to my sister in law pays." She said.
"Me too. Don't worry I'm sure the detectives are working really hard on this case" I informed her.
Krystal and I talked for a while longer before the detectives were exiting the room. One of them had his eyes on me and I couldn't tell what kind of look he was giving me.
"Ms. Jung, would you and your husband be willing to answer a few questions we have?" Namjoon asked.
"We want to help in any way possible but today is not a good day. My husband had some business to attend to so he wont he home until later."
"What about in the next couple of days?" He asked.
"That should work. Just stop by our place when you need to talk to us detective." I told him.
"I will, thanks." He replied giving me a soft smile.
"Oh by the way would it be alright if we speak with you briefly, Ms. Kim?" He asked looking at Krystal.
"Sure." She said stepping into a room with the detective. I made my way back into Seokjin's den to see him sitting with his hands covering his face. I sat down next to him putting my hand on his back as he finally noticed my presence.
"Hey, are you doing okay?" I asked.
"They just asked a lot of questions about her, you know Mina. It's really hard to talk about her y/n." He said.
"I know oppa, I'm so sorry that you have to go through this but It will help them find the person who did this to her."
"I know it's just difficult. She was going to have my child, we were going to be such a happy family. I can't believe this is happening right now."
"I don't even know why someone would want to hurt her." I mentioned.
"Neither do I, she was such an angel. When they find the bastard who did this I hope he gets the death penalty."
"Where's Hoseok?" Jin asked now realizing that he had left.
"He had a lot of work to take care of, so he had to step out." I told him.
"Sounds about right. Work is always his first priority." I could sense that Seokjin was hurt by the tone of his voice. He needed all of the emotional support he could get right now and his best friend not being there for him was bothering him.
"I know he would rather be here with you."
"Y/n, do you think... never mind." Seokjin started.
"Do I think what? You can ask me."
"The detectives asked me if I had any reason to believe that Mina was still seeing Hoseok behind my back. I told them of course not but now I'm starting to doubt myself. What if they were seeing each other and the baby wasn't mine." He said.
"No, there is no way that's possible. Hoseok has been very open with me about everything. I'm positive that he wasn't see her anymore." I told Seokjin and I was sure. I trusted Hoseok fully, he was very open with me about everything. I knew he would never make the same mistake twice, he'd barely even speak to her at gatherings.
"Yeah I guess you are right, my head is just a mess right now. I can't believe this is happening."
"I think you need to take some time to relax. Krystal is here but after you visit her I think you should have some alone time to clear your head and try to get some sleep."
"Why are you so good to me y/n?" Seokjin asked as he grabbed my hand in his. I squeezed his hand a bit and smiled at him. "You are one of the kindest people I have ever met in my life and when you are hurt it effects me personally. I just want you to get past this, I will always be here for you when you need me." I told him.
"I think mourning will be a lot less difficult with you by my side." Seokjin said. I desperately wished that those words could be true. I wished that with just this simplest of touches I could cure him of his pain but I knew that I couldn't. This was a difficult situation for everyone involved and it was only going to get worst.
Namjoon’s Pov
It had been a few days since Kim's wife had passed and they had discovered from her doctor that she was in fact aware that she was pregnant. She found out pretty early in the pregnancy but had been hiding it from her husband. Namjoon was still waiting on the DNA test, he was pretty sure the baby wasn't Kim's. He had a feeling that it was Jung's and that she didn't want her husband to know which is why she didn't tell him. Which led him to believe that maybe Jung knew and he wanted to get ride of Mina and her child so that his wife didn't find out.
Namjoon and Taehyung were now sitting with their boss, the head of the precinct and he was asking them about the current case and what they had discovered. They had to frequently brief him on the case so that he could make sure they were doing their job right.
"So what are you thinking?" Yoongi said as he placed a case folder on Namjoon's desk sitting down on it. Namjoon took a long drink of his coffee deciding what to say before finally speaking up.
"It's complicated so far." Namjoon said scanning the case file.
"Come on, I know you want to speculate. What are you thinking?" Taehyung asked this time.
"Well you both know I'm really good at picking up on people's demeanors. Don't you think it was weird that Jung left as soon as we told him the information about Kim's wife being pregnant the other day?" He asked.
"I didn't really think much of it. He's a business man and I'm sure he has a lot to do."
"Maybe, or maybe he's hiding something." Namjoon said.
"Like what?" Yoongi asked. "What could he possibly be hiding?"
"I think he was still seeing her, that he was still sleeping with his friend's wife. I think when we get that paternity test back, that it won't be a match for Kim."
"Really?" Both Yoongi and Taehyung asked.
"Yes really. Anyways we don't need to speculate right now. We have a lot of information that we can go over. First we know that Kim had an alibi. He was with his little sister we talked to her and she confirmed it. He apparently came to visit her before the event."
"Okay what about enemies? Anyone who wanted her dead?" Yoongi asked.
"Jung said that his wife didn't have any enemies. That she was the sweetest woman alive and that every loved her." Taehyung added.
"But we know that obviously isn't true. Someone wanted her dead, the smashed the back of her head and then pushed her down the stair. Sounds like an enemy to me." Yoongi said. "How about the murder weapon, any leads on that?"
"The coroner says it had to be some type of blunt force object, from the indentation at the back of her skull he suspects our weapon is a hammer."
"When you swept Kim's house did you find it?" Yoongi question.
"No the perpetrator must have taken the weapon with him." Namjoon answered.
"This is going to be a lot harder than we expected. You have no evidence whatsoever and no leads." Yoongi stated.
"If Jung is in fact the father of Mina's unborn child then I will have two possible suspects sir.
"Who?" He asked.
"Jung for one." Namjoon answered.
"And his wife will be the second suspect." Taehyung added.
"Okay so who do you plan to talk to next?" Yoongi asked.
"I think I need to talk to Jung and his wife. Her husband and Kim's wife had an affair a few months ago. They might be able to help us out."
"Okay I think you guys can handle this one. Just keep me updated and remember what the successful completion of this case will mean to you Kim." Yoongi said."
"I will Sir, thank you." Namjoon knew that his promotion was on the line, and solving this case was very important to him.
As soon as Yoongi left and went back into his office Taehyung looked at him with a smirk. "Why do I get the feeling that you really just want to interrogate Jung. You don't like him do you?"
"I don't necessarily dislike him, I just think he's an idiot for cheating on a wife as beautiful as his. Plus I really think he's hiding something."
"I don't know, maybe the girl had something to do with it?" Taehyung insinuated.
"Jung's wife?" Namjoon asked.
"Yeah I mean you know how wives are when they get cheated on. Maybe she never got over her anger towards Kim's wife?
"So she killed her?"
"It is very possible." He replied. "You are going to want to see this." Yoongi said as he immediately returned handing the two detectives a packet. "It was sitting on my desk." Namjoon opened the envelope and read the results, unsurprisingly. He then held up the letter for Taehyung to see.
"Looks like we have somewhere to go." Namjoon stated. They pulled up outside of the Jung mansion and Namjoon hoped that they were both at home. He had called Jung to let them know they were stopping by but as busy as the guy was Namjoon wasn't sure if he would be home still. They studied the mansion for a minute, It must of cost millions of dollars. They had luxury cars out in the driveway and maids in the home taking care of it.
"It's crazy, how it's always the rich people who do the worst shit." Taehyung said.
"What do you mean?" Namjoon asked.
"Look at this house, their cars and isn't their net worth over half a billion dollars?"
"Yes and your point is?"
"My point is that they could have literally anything and everything they could ever desire. Yet, Jung wanted someone else's wife and now they are involved in this weird love square."
"Yeah I think that 'love square' should be the last of Jung's worries right now. Let's go." Namjoon replied opening his car door and exiting. They rang the doorbell and were greeted by the housemaid. She looked a bit nervous, maybe even worried.
"Hello detectives, Mr. and Ms. Jung are waiting for you in the dinning area." She said taking their coats.
"Thanks." Namjoon said.
They found the two of them in their dining room seemingly having a conversation, which immediately stopped when they walked into the room. Jung stood up to greet them and his wife followed suit. They offered the detectives refreshments and then went on about their interrogation.
"So we didn't plan to interrogate the two of you, but now that this is a murder investigation, we will need to talk to everyone who is close to the victim." Namjoon stated.
"That's fine. We just want to help." Hoseok replied, he looked anxious. Namjoon could tell he was thinking about something as if his mind was preoccupied.
"I have a few questions that I will be asking and my partner is going to be taking notes. You have the right to be interrogated separately if you'd like a little privacy." Namjoon directed the suggestion at Jung, knowing that he probably had more to hide.
"We wanna do this together." Hoseok said placing his hand on his wife back. Namjoon had to use all of his strength inside of him not to show how he was feeling on the inside. He really didn't like this guy so far.
"Okay, so where were you the night of Mina's murder? We will start with you Mr. Jung."
"I was out of town with my business partner. We had just come in town and I headed to the fundraising event my wife and I were hosting." Hoseok said.
"And you?" Namjoon said directing his attention to y/n.
"I was at home all day. I went to the event around eight." She replied.
"Is there anyone who can back that up?" he asked.
"Yes our housekeeper was here with me as well." She added.
"And then after the party?" He asked.
"We uh, went home a couple of hours before the event ended." Hoseok stated.
"I see, is there a reason why?"
"We hadn't seen each other all weekend and wanted some alone time together." Hoseok added.
"Good enough." Namjoon stated, he didn't need to know the dirty details. "The victim's time of death was around 8:45 pm. So we are just trying to cover all of our bases."
"Were you and Mina close? "Namjoon asked y/n.
"Before the affair we were but after it happened I wasn't really into being best friends." She said.
"What about you? Were you in contact with her?"
"No, we saw each other at social events and from time to time at Seokjin's house but that's about it." Hoseok said.
"The reason why we ask is because typically, even after a man is caught having an affair he sometimes sees the women that he was cheating with."
"Not my husband, he hasn't seen Mina more than necessary since the affair." Y/n intercepted.
"She's right. Trust me I haven't even been alone with her since the affair, I'm sure you can understand why."
"How long did the affair last?"
"It only happened once. We were both extremely drunk and regretted it." Hoseok stated quickly, a little too quickly in Namjoon's opinion.
"Is there a reason why all of your questions are about the affair. We really don't even like bringing it up." He added.
"I understand that it can be a touchy subject. The reason why we needed to ask questions about it, is because we found out the paternity of Mina's child and it isn't Mr. Kim."
Jung and his wife both looked at each other. It seemed like they both knew what Namjoon was going to say next but it was as if they didn't want to hear it.
"Mina was pregnant with your child Mr. Jung."
Hoseok looked down and then ran his hand through his hair anxiously, his wife just stared at him with a shock filled expression.
"Are you positive?" He finally said.
"Yes your DNA was a match to the DNA of the unborn fetus."
"You told me that you used protection. You lied to me about that?" His wife asked seemingly upset.
Jung started to reply but Namjoon interrupted. He had to wrap this up and he didn't really want to witness their lover's quarrel.
"Did Mina ever try to contact you and tell you that she was pregnant?" Namjoon asked.
"No, I just told you that we haven't really talked." Jung answered. Namjoon could tell that he was getting defensive.
"You know this is a lot for the two of us to take in. Do you have any more questions to ask us?" Jung added.
"No, I think we got everything that we need for now, but we will be reaching out if anything else comes up." He stated standing up along with his partner. Jung escorted the detectives to the door as his wife remind at the table. They thanked him for his time and headed to the car. Once they were in the car and Namjoon was pulling out of the driveway Taehyung was the first to speak.
"What do you think now?" He asked.
"I think that Mina's murder is in that house."
