OnePlus 7T - From A New Users Perspective After the Hype
OnePlus is a division of BBK Electronics a massive electronics manufacturer in China. They started out designing and selling flagship grade phones at half the price. They design phones that compete with the Samsung Galaxy S series and the LG G series. Their phones were usually half the price of their competition.
A couple years ago they shifted their business focus. Now they are making two tiers of phones. Their "Pro" phones have all the top tier spec features of top tier flagship phones at lower-tier flagship prices. Their standard line has most of the flagship features with a few compromises at upper mid-range prices (between $500 - $600). They are not only making phones with flagship specs, but phones with a great user experience.
This brings us to their current non-pro offering the OnePlus 7T. This is my review as a new user after the hype.
Unboxing
The OnePlus 7T comes in an unusually long box, and I think that it is there to promote the new 20:9 aspect ratio. In the box you get the phone, power brick, cable, case, SIM ejector tool and documents. The phone has a screen protector pre-installed. and the charger is the Warp Charge 30 phone charger. This works with the phones Warp Charge 30T battery technology to charge your phone fast. You also get a letter from OnePlus' Founder Pete Lau welcoming you to the OnePlus community.
Specs
The OnePlus 7T packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ mobile processor with 8GB of RAM. The 7T not only has the best processor tech from it's release date, but the best storage technology as well. It comes packed with 128 GB of super fast UFS 3.0 storage. It has a beautiful 6.55" fluid HD+ AMOLED display that runs at a speedy 90Hz. It has a triple camera array with a 48 MP main shooter, a 12 MP telephoto camera, and a 16 MP ultra wide camera. The selfie camera is 16MP and is mounted in a small teardrop notch in the display. It has an underscreen optical fingerprint sensor that is sensitive and accurate. The 7T has stereo speakers, but lacks a headphone jack. It has a 3800 mAh battery to keep the phone going all day long. The phone comes with Warp Charge 30T technology.
Build and Design
The build quality of the OnePlus 7T feels rock solid in the hand. The components are mounted to an aluminum frame. Flanking the frame is the 6.55" Gorilla Glass 5 clad display with tear-drop camera and a Gorilla Glass 5 back panel. The display has minimal bezels. The Glass panel has a round camera bump for the camera array. For the most part the phone feels very sturdy, but as Zack from Jerry Rig Everything illustrates the phone's back panel has a weakness, so use a case.

The phone feels good to hold. The rounded corners fit just right in my palm. With my small hands I can still get my thumb across the screen. Otherwise, for me the phone is a 2-handed device, but people with larger hands will not have a problem.
Speed and Battery Life
I am going to come out and say it. This phone is fast. Apps load fast. Interacting with the phone is fast. Gaming is fast. With this phone it's not just the fact that the phone has some of the best hardware, but some of the best software. Oxygen OS on the 7T is streamlined to take advantage of the Sapdragon 855+, the UFS 3.0 storage, the 8GB RAM, and the 90Hz display. With the 7T you don't need benchmarks to know that the phone is fast. You can see it. But since people need benchmarks here are some numbers. On Geekbench the OnePlus 7T scored 760 on the single-core test. On multi-core it scored 2696 on the multi-core test.

The 7T is equipped with a 3800 mAh battery. With my moderate usage patterns the phone lasts a day with plenty in the tank to get through a large chunk of the next. Heavy users should still be able to make it through a day. In the case that you can't the phone can charge in 1 hour using the Warp 30 charger that comes in the box.
Sound
The 7T has great sounding stereo speakers with good channel differentiation and separation. The sound is loud and vibrant with good clarity. It doesn't have a headphone jack so you will have to purchase a USB-C dongle, or use bluetooth headphones. Bluetooth supports apt-X, apt-X HD, and AAC audio profiles. The apt-X profiles provide great audio quality to high end bluetooth headphones.
Cameras
I am not going to talk about the cameras, other than to say that they are pretty good. I am not an expert in camera technology, and so I am not qualified to talk about them. I will post links to videos from reviewers that are more knowledgeable:

Thoughts and Conclusion
This is easily the fastest phone I have ever used. The build quality is excellent even though it didn't survive the bend test. Luckily OnePlus includes a decent phone case and a screen cover. It doesn't have some flagship features like wireless Qi charging, a Quad HD+ display, or a pop-up camera. The truth is that the OnePlus 7T doesn't need that. It ticks all the right boxes. It has a superfast Snapdragon 855+, 128 GB of UFS3 storage, 8 GB of RAM, a 90 Hz fluid AMOLED display, and a fast charger. All the best features of the OnePlus 7 Pro without any of the fluff. In my opinion, the design philosophy of this phone is “everything you need, and nothing you don't.” It both feels faster and is faster than every Samsung S10 series (non-5G) phone I tried. The LG G8 ThinQ didn't even come close to measuring up as I was researching phones. With its price ($499 on sale) and feature set the OnePlus 7T is easily one of the best phones available even in early 2020. What more is there to say.
